something i really appreciate about VAL is how utterly mundane she really is. she's not anyone special, her backstory isn't anything unusual even by ordinary real life standards, let alone silt verses ones; in fact there's basically nothing about her that makes her unique. the only times we hear her refer to herself as anything of note are when she sarcastically tells the man she's about to kill to "marvel at me", and when she compares herself to a god in a moment of whimsical vanity the moment is immediately cut short by her stumbling across a mass grave, which undercuts any claims to godhood she might have by proving her incapable of one of the core tenets of divinity as we see her fail to perform the miracle of raising the dead. she's literally just a person. "she can talk, she can listen, she can follow orders, she can snark like you or i can", she sings, she's self-aware; she doesn't even really care about the war she was created to win, she just wants to understand why her mother couldn't love her. but all her choices - her actions, and their consequences - are given the weight of a god's power, the destructive impact of sheer possibility. if you torture an already unstable human being to insanity and then give them a weapon of mass destruction!!

"Would you stop looking at me like that." Louis spoke as he held the towel wrapped ice pack that the hockey player had given him upon his arrival against the left side of his face "I already told you that I'm fine." he sighed. The sad part about the whole situation was that the fighter was fine. Any normal person might be a little shaken up after getting jumped in an empty parking lot but it was simply another day for him. He knew that it was long over due. He wasn't an idiot he knew how the way that the life he lived worked. He was constantly pushing boundaries and towing the line, admittedly he had always enjoyed the rush of it.

but have a teeny tiny drabble i wrote for them a while ago:

"Your pocket is moving," Armand dully arched an eyebrow in his direction.

"Perhaps I'm happy to see you, mon frère, ever think of that?"

"That would be a first."

"Why must you-"

Lestat's hand instinctively came to flatten down over his soaked trench coat, tiny hummingbird heartbeat strumming against his palm.

"Surely not a rat, is it?" This is how one captures Louis's attention, it seems.

"Mon Dieu, you would like that, wouldn't you!"

Old insecurities, a young maker's failings, readily dredged to the surface centuries later at a moment's notice.

"No," Lestat forced his tone to soften, easing his hand around the fragile creature: matted dark fur, harsh angles, nails clawing in desperation at his marble skin. I know, ma petite. He pulled the kitten free, holding it out like a child's prize won at a county fair before abruptly depositing it onto Louis's lap.

"Another orphan," Armand ran a finger over her forehead, smiling when she hissed. "Look at you, little one... Eyes, talons, not much else, and still you boast such a tenacious spirit."

Lestat shrugged. He wanted to say: It reminded me of you once, both of you. His throat constricted around the words, altering them altogether. "Yes, isn't she the most darling little creature?"

that's when i first got the idea that lestat would absolutely show up to trinity gate looking like snow white with all the animals btw 🥹
