For the LBFaD Asks: 2, 12, 16 🎄
Please and thank you!
Hello there! Thanks for asking :)
2) What fandom did you write for before LBFaD?
Ahahaha, you're going to laugh, but the majority of my posted works are actually for Detective Conan, a children's manga/anime. In terms of cdramas, I cut my teeth on Nirvana in Fire.
12) Favourite tropes in your fic/s and why.
I'm actually struggling to think of what tropes I re-use.
I think one -- aspect? feeling? -- that pervades my works is melancholy or longing, or more precisely, the use of happiness or jauntiness against dramatic irony to create melancholy.
16) Share your favourite dialogue.
Hee. So this is half the ficlet, but:
“How we met? Well, at the time, your grandmother was in love with someone else.” “You know it wasn’t like that,” Xiao Lanhua protested. Dongfang Qingcang leaned closer to his little granddaughter. “She was engaged to him.” The little girl gasped. “Then she stopped being engaged to him and started being engaged to you!” “Well, yes, but first…she put a curse on me.” “Dongfang Qingcang.” “A curse?” said the little girl’s brother avidly, finally looking up from the wooden puzzle in his hands. “An old, powerful curse.” “Did you cry?” the granddaughter asked breathlessly. Dongfang Qingcang paused, then nodded gravely. “Yes, in fact. It was that kind of curse.”
excerpted from a scene in which DFQC and XLH are spending time with their grandchildren. I just love the idea of DFQC teasing his wife about their meet-ugly and crush on Changheng.

For the Writblr Ask Game: 5, 7 and 13 💕
Please and thank you
End of the year writeblr ask game
Hello 👋 and thank you for the questions ✨!
5) What is your favorite book/story/poem you read this year?
Lauren Groff's Matrix! I don't know if it's my favorite, but it's certainly one of the best things I've read this year. (I don't rate books 5 stars on Goodreads that often).
It has medieval women in all sort of roles: nuns, administrators, visionaries, artists, queens, warriors... Women building their own community and being self-sufficient. A narrative with sorority at its core. And gorgeous writing to boot.
7) What are three songs you put on your WIP-playlist this year?
I tend to associate my characters with Florence and the machine songs and this year was no exception.
First: Seven Devils. My characters aren't usually people you would want to cross, but it especially reminds me of my Shadow and Bone OC, Marya. She can be ruthless and is a fearsome presence on the battlefield.
"Holy water cannot help you now / Thousand armies couldn't keep me out / I don't want your money / I don't want your crown / See, I've come to burn your kingdom down."
Next is Only if for a night. Ismene, the protagonist of one of my WIPs, has just lost her mother. This song about being visited in a dream by a dead relative was perfect.
"And the only solution was to stand and fight / And my body was bruised and I was set alight / But you came over me like some holy rite /And although I was burning, you're the only light."
Last is Shake it Out. I associate it with another of my characters who lost herself, hit rock bottom, but is determined to find her way in spite of her suffering.
"All of his questions, such a mournful sound /Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground /'Cause I like to keep my issues drawn /But it's always darkest before the dawn"
13) How did you change as a writer?
I learned many positive things and I improved my writing, but one thing I've learned was to handle disappointement.
In January, I posted my Fire Emblem Three Houses fanfic on AO3. I put a lot of work in it. It's a novel-length story, I created 4 OCs, with their backstories, their personalities... Since this game has a lot of dead or invisible mothers, I gave them a face and a story. I expanded on some of the game's lore.
And clearly, I was disappointed by the relative lack of interactions. I'm not writing for clout, but I'm also posting my stories in the hope of connecting with other people. But that wasn't really the case on AO3. I had to wait 8 months before getting my first comment.
Of course, it still had some interactions, so I don't want to sound ungrateful. I don't want to be internet famous (especially since there are cases of harassment against authors in this fandom). But the thing is that I hoped for...more. And it felt like screaming in the void, especially after having put all this work.
Then, I published my Shadow and Bone fanfic and the response was very different and heartwarming. This made me realize that the problem wasn't probably with my writing or storytelling, but mainly with the fandom. This fandom doesn't seem to want what I have to offer (I wish people would step out their comfort zone and stop being this wary of OCs. Maybe I will elaborate on this later).
Furthermore, the people who read this story enjoyed it. And I had fun writing it. So I chose to focus on the positive side of this experience and I will keep writing about my characters because I believe in their potential.

For the LBFaD Asks: 6, 10, 11, 17 🩷
@intricatecaprice Thank you my dearest for the asks! 6. Does font matter to you went you write? YES. Oh yes. When I hit a wall, I change the font. When I edit, I change the font. Depending on the theme of the chapter or the scene, I use a different font. It's much like painting, and fonts are my brushes.
10. What fanon fact/s did you make your mind up on while writing for LBFaD? (you *had* to ask the difficult one :) thank you I like being challenged) I try not to look at too many fanon facts or headcanons while I am writing. However! There is one that you've written which I enjoyed in both the telling of it and how it fit almost effortlessly in canon. The way Dieyi is found and brought to Haishi in the fic Impossible. 11. What fic or idea would you like to write or read about next?
Don't laugh, I'm going to step outside my usual seriousness and answer with this one word. Karaoke. (Second answer is Ronghao and Xunfeng's partnership. I would like to explore in a short fic what that conversation might have been early, and then again when a battle needed to be won, and a third scene just before the start of the series. All these conversations would take place in the forest)
17. Share an excerpt from your favorite scene.
My favorite scene is in draft form currently. Instead, may I offer another scene which is less drafty, but still one I enjoyed writing.
The foliage above them stirred, the calm timbre of clacking stems following the shifting guidance of the air.
“What I hear is the voice of someone hurt.”
“Not hurt,” she pronounced. “Excuse me. I have another obligation.”
He caught her looking through the bamboo. “Do you know what is there?”
Vianxia paled and tapped her pocket. “Yes. I know.”
“I will not allow you.”
“I am not allowed to pay my respects? Not allowed to honor her or remember -”
“I will have no one desecrate her memory. And no, I will not allow you to speak with her, or beg from her, or try to gain favor!” As his voice raised so did the anger and his neck grew red, his face sharply severe. “She will stay at peace!”
The last word echoed in the canopy.
“Why are you really here?”
Vianxia looked over her shoulder. “What sort of question is that? I came to speak to my father.”
“No.” Ronghao’s fist clenched. “You came out of curiosity. To see the paltry memorial to the dismissed goddess." He pointed behind her, to the newly swept stone. "How do I know that is your father’s memory?”
“I would not lie to you, Lord Ronghao.”
But her words hit sharply, a hint that maybe she knew. Maybe she was able to identify his other self and his palm sweat and his ears burned and his jaw tensed.
“Why…are you here.”

Please and thank you!
(I'm such a weirdo but I love knowing if anyone uses different fonts between writing and editing!)
5: Describe your writing space.
My desk! I have a laptop, mouse pad, and a pink kitty-eared mouse. My desk is pretty messy. I used to have it really nice with lots of enamel pins and decorations, but my cat Chai is addicted to messing with anything on my desk. The enamel pins became hazardous because he'd pull them out with his teeth and they're uh, sharp obviously. So those are being moved upstairs to the desk I work at (I WFH). There's a couple cubbies stuffed with little knickknacks and just random stuff and some mugs with pens et al. There's a little desk lamp, and I also always have slime on my desk. I'm a huge fidgeter, so I keep slime with me whenever I can to combat the nail biting, etc. I may do otherwise.
6: Does font matter to you when you write?
I just use the default font, which on google docs I believe is Calibri. I'd be okay with any standard font like that, arial, times new roman, etc. I wouldn't want to write in something quirky or a script though, of course.
10: What fanon fact/s did you make your mind up on while writing for LBFaD?
I don't have a 'set future' per se for DFQC and XLH like I do some of my other ships. Maybe it's because they'll live so LONG that it seems impossible to do. I do think they'd have children, and I have it in mind what kind of parents they'd be. I've always been of the belief that one of their children would have the capacity to wield hellfire, just so DFQC can have some more anguish and trauma (I'm normally quite nice to him, I swear). Of course they wouldn't pursue it, but the mere idea of it being possible would still tear him up inside.
This is a personal thing, but I don't like when XLH is referred to Xiyun post series unless it's in a professional capacity. Xiyun was sealed when she was a child, and everyone that Xiao Lanhua knows and loves that is alive, knows her by that name. She's been XLH longer than Xiyun. It truly doesn't work in my mind that she would, when its actually revealed she's still herself and she has her memories, want people to call her by another name.
I can see her going by Xiyun in goddess related diplomatic settings (specifically if she's appearing as the Xishan goddess. If she's there in capacity as the Moon Queen, I think she'd use XLH), but outside of that she's XLH to me.
But a part of me even likes XLH there as well. Something satisfying about Yunzhong in specific having to call her XLH; he can never forget for a moment that this is the woman that he tortured and hunted unjustly. XLH is not as spiteful as me though LOL
And this is not vagueing anyone. Lots of people have a different opinion than me.
At least I haven't seen anyone have DFQC call her Xiyun. I could not read that. She’s XLH to him (or Xiao Huayo of course).

For the LBFaD Asks: 13, 12 and 10 🎄
Thank you!
10. What fanon fact/s did you make your mind up on while writing for LBFaD?
I'm very fond of the idea that the Moon Queen is a rare thing and that previous Moon Supremes mostly had concubines. I'll get into it more in my fic An Orchid of the Moon once the time comes to reveal more about my headcanons 😉. But I've seen others mention/explore this idea as well, so I'm glad I'm not alone! I think, just like with Moon Supreme, becoming Moon Queen is not a simple thing!
I also like the idea that DFQC (and XLH) were not aware of the Glazed Fire manifesting in DFQC in the final showdown with Tai Sui. Too much was going on! The drama that can cause later is fun.
12. Favourite tropes in your fic/s and why.
Oooh. Well, I like porn for plot reasons (a la medicinal purposes). I think it's fun to put these characters in situations where they have to have sex, especially when DFQC and XLH are at such odds with one another at first.
I also like playing with role reversals, which I haven't had a chance to do much yet with the fics I've published, but I have a couple ideas in mind where DFQC is the one with less "power" than XLH. I think it's fun to see how their dynamic would change and how it'd stay the same. In a similar vein, I like giving characters new origins from their canon counterparts (like making XLH a Moon Tribe flower spirit in An Orchid of the Moon) and seeing how things would change. I have another fic planned that also swaps a character's origin (but I won't say who yet 🤭)
13. Favourite song/s that inspired you?
Begin Again by Purity Ring reminds me of Canglan. Also "Bends" by Carly Rae Jepsen inspired my fic the year of drowning (but I didn't end up using it as a title inspo bc i couldn't find a good line to use)
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK! this was fun to answer 🥰

I have two questions, but not from any list - just questions from me 😊 1. Have you ever had a character pleasantly surprise you by moving from being a background character to suddenly insisting on a plot-driving role? 2. What was your most challenging scene ever to write so far?
Thank you for the lovely asks! I love chatting about my work
1. Yes! That actually just happened with Adiran recently. He was supposed to be a “villain” (I can’t even call him that, just a conflict point really) in what was supposed to be a short spooky Halloween flash fic. It turned into an entire arc, and actually lead to me rethinking the world of Foxes and Fate a little bit and implications of Tybee *cough cough spoilers cough*. All because his old high school buddy came to scare the bejeezus out of Lia :P
2. Ok. So. I really like metaphor, and I really like spaces that are not necessarily material (like dreams, mental constructs, etc.). Which sometimes makes it impossible to tell what is really happening and what is just pretty words.
There is a scene in Asylum where Nica does this magic dance that gets away from her. It’s supposed to be an illusion dance, to trick the senses, and unbeknownst to her she imbues too much life into it and it becomes real. Naj has to rescue her, by diving into her soul and severing her connection with the magic. All of these things “really” happen, but some of them happen in the concrete meat space we move through, and some only happen in their shared magic. It’s no less “real”, but there are no literal rivers flowing over the stage for example. Then I start taking about the force of things like a tempest and it gets really, really tricky :/
Also figuring out exactly what Gil wagers in Foxes and Fate is still kicking my ass XD. Faery deals and wording are tricksy things.Pray for me :P

For the Nosy Asks... 11, 12, 19, 20, 32, 47
Sorry for the delay ♥
11. If you could teleport anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
I would probably teleport to the north of Norway to watch these every night while writing fantastic novels about fairies
Tumblr media
12. What’s one of your fantasies?
Call it a fantasy or a dream.
I would like to get the falconer’s license to surround myself either with these cuties
Tumblr media
or with those clever fellas
Tumblr media
and actually with every other corvid bird ♥
Because here you are not allowed to keep, train or even rescue birds of prey or any other wild bird without a falconer’s license.
And I would very like to rescue injured feathered fellas and release them again to the wild. :)
19. If you could change your name, would you? What would you change it to?
I would and I am not sure to what.
20. What is something you’re obsessed with?
Birds in general.
Knowledge in general.
Books, different languages and antique, old fashioned words, which are rarely used.
32. If you could live in a fictional world, what world would you pick?
I would prefer to live in Rivendell *sigh*
47. If you could marry any celebrity, who would you pick?
No one. Why?
Because most celebrities are not faithful and I am not a relationship person.
I had a few relationships and it never turned out right.... So I’d prefer to stay single with a lots of friends and animals :)

Number 18 for the writing ask ❤❤❤
oh this is a good one!
18. List five positive things that you like about yourself as a writer.
I think I’m great at coming up with worlds and concepts that draw people in (or at least draw ME in :P)
how my writing and art go together so much! there’s nothing like being able to see what you’ve been imagining drawn out in front of you.
how my stories are always the story of a few people within a much bigger world, but their story still matters even if they aren’t saving the world, just themselves
nobody’s morally black or white, but divided by who tries their hardest to be a good person and who excuses their faults or straight up doesn’t care
usually even the darkest of my stories have a strong positive or optimistic core to them

#6 for Jack Sparrow, Capitán Salazar and Captain Barbossa....
YIKES. THIS WAS A HARD ONE.
Kill: Jack Sparrow. My reasoning on this one is “Aah, he’ s used to it!” Most of his friends, acquaintances and crew try to kill him/actually kill him (please see Elizabeth Swann) and being stabbed through the chest/left for Kraken chow doesn’t seem to even leave him with grudges - bar a bit of sarcastic humour. At this point in the POTC franchise, death is just like having to change your shirt for Jack!
Betray: Yowch, so hard! Not that I’d mean to, but I think “killing the Sparrow before I get a chance to do it” probably counts as a betrayal in Capitán Salazar‘s books. Sorry, Armando! I shall do my best to explain through a megaphone from the shoreline.
Have On Your Zombie Apocalypse Team: This was a near tie with Salazar, but I’m afraid Barbs won out the day due to just being a (very little) more careful about his team-mates well-being. Sure, you’ll lose the red-shirts, but he gets everyone out of pickles okay, in addition to being a hardened fighter and full of piratey/mystical intel, as well as previous Undead Experience. El Capitán... kinda exploded his last team.

I'm going to go with X & V for the fanfic ask meme and Bella Muerte, please!
@montmartre-parapluie thank you so much for the asks!!
X: A character you enjoy making suffer.
This man:
Tumblr media
(Look at him. He’s suffering already)
Poor Scarfield. What embittered his heart? What made him so cold?
Yet he brings a lot of his own tragic fate upon himself - like Capitán Salazar, his hubris is punished, and it makes me almost sorry for him – in my opinion, he almost could be my answer for the next question too - he deserves his own fic.
Even if it was just a one-shot to explain why he is just so set against Carina!  It always bothered me that he admits he knows she is not a witch, and yet has no hesitation to see her hang…
I think this is why, in making Scarfield ‘suffer’ in Bella Muerte, I am also giving him the chance to be an even greater villain than he ever got to be in canon…
V: A secondary (or underrated) character you want to see more of in fic?
This man:
Tumblr media
There’s not enough fic for Lieutenant Lesaro.
(Maybe, for me, there never will be enough, I am as hungry as the sea for this man)
Now… contrary to popular opinion… I headcanon that Lieutenant Lesaro is not a big old softie. I mean, I love to call him a cinnamon roll as much as the next fan, but.
I really doubt Capitán Salazar would have chosen a ‘soft’ man to be his Lieutenant. I mean, I get why we want to love him, protect him, make him the ‘mom’ of the ship, have him be cute and adorable etc.
Lieutenant Lesaro singlehandedly captured our compassion, and we feel for him because of the way it ended for him the way it nearly ended for him. Because, fanfic.
(So as far as I'm concerned, this:
Tumblr media
Never happened.)
(Or if it did it sure didn't end there, post-curse immortality headcanons anyone?)
But moving on to writing fanfics for Lieutenant Guillermo Lesaro!
My opinion? I think if you’re going to be real about writing him, he would not be soft - not onboard the ship! Privately, with someone he loves, he would be different - but onboard La María? He would kick ass.
I headcanon his fighting skills are incredible - and he would work even harder to make sure the loss of his eye does not diminish his skills as Capitán’s most trusted Lieutenant.
And as for being the ‘mom’ of the ship - sure. If ‘mom’ carried a big stick. Because, if anything, as Lieutenant, he would have to be stricter, harsher, and harder than any of the others. That’s his job. Even when he doesn’t want it to be. Because, above everything, Lieutenants had to enforce discipline.
Lieutenant Lesaro would have had to be tough, as he is the one to ensure all Capitán’s orders are followed through on. I suspect he even rubs certain Officers up the wrong way (looking at you, Officer Cortez) because he takes his position so seriously…
So - more fics! More fics in general for PotC 5 but especially more fics of Lieutenant Lesaro, and more fics of our men interacting with each other aboard La María! I love the new angles and new headcanons everyone has for every new story, it’s endlessly fascinating.
