talked about this in discord today but my fave way to Keep My AU's Alive even when not actively writing them, is mentally check in with them around holidays!

I like to give everyone a halloween costume every year, ponder their life state, and update myself. I do this at christmas also.. and that can overlap with the new year to really round it out.

It also keeps you thinking about them because you never know when that urge to write will kick back in!

i usually just start with a concept (heehoo iterator who doesn't care for their puppet and the puppet has a blankie thrown over it and there's creepy peepy teefs under there) and then built off from that (the character now leads death itself to its family no matter how much it hurts and tears away at it because it recognizes this is ultimately the best thing that can happen to them and it Only wishes for the best for its family cuz it loves them a lot. no matter what it will take, its family will be alright.)- OH a VERY important thing for character making is interconnecting them with other characters!!! that is literally the Most important thing Ever imo. and then details. details are what build the complexity!

the more interactions with other characters and the world you put the peepo thru, the more shaped they will be, i suppose? while still keeping a core idea very clear

also taking inspirations from other characters and then remixing n combining these different inspirations is a valid thing to do. one of Notos' big inspirations is, for example, Wednesday Addams from that netflix show! sometimes the inspiration comes from a certain pack of feelings i get from a song/situation, like for example Zephyr and Johanka by Brotosauři/Joan of Arc in general. Johanka and where i first heard it, the way i first sung it, was already full of so many things that simply applying it to Zephyr gave her a complex personality

and as always -claps- don't forget to give your character low points and weaknesses. but ALSO don't forget to give them their shining moments and strengths

Facts about the TAWoG Fankids Universe that I have updated/rewritten/added

(Name by @specialshinytrinkets , nice name lol):

Candy (Gumball x Penny fankid) was born still in her shell.

Phelly (Carrie x Darwin fankid) is a mermaid-like ghost and is always excited for everything. They also have an older brother named Centur (Full name: Centuries (Girl, Idk, just ask my young self)) who doesn't have a mouth.

Larry looks more tired and exhausted due to an incident that happened (car accident involving his fankid and Karen (His fankid is in a coma, Karen on the other hand is a ghost trying to communicate him but doesn't know how)). He also kins Sayori from DDLC.

Benjaming (Rob x Random OC fankid) already has a police record since he was 8. Don't ask how, he just does.

Benjaming, Bobert's fankid and Tobias' fankid (can't come up with a name for them right now xd) are besties and would literally kill for each other.

They're all still besties after the Void incident, but it pains Benjaming knowing that they don't remember that he was their childhood bestie.

Rob barely pays attention to Benjaming which leads to Benjaming wanting to make his dad pay attention to him. Benjaming also has self-confidence and self-doubt issues due to this.

Mr. Small, Joan and Mr. Corneille look a little exhausted due to Larry trying to do... certain things to himself, but they don't really care about being tired as long as their friend is alright.

Candy can turn themselves inside out and their inside skin glows blue in the dark. This leaves everyone scarred from her (she got the nickname Glowy Candy from Phelly who thought it looked cool. Doesn't mean they weren't scarred by her doing that-)

Anais is the aunt that will often take care of Candy, Phelly and Centur, which leads to wacky and funny shenanigans.

Everyone in this universe can speak Spanish... as a THREAT-

Principal Brown is still a principal.

The reason why Rob pays little attention to his kid is because he has issues to sort with himself. Doesn't mean it's an excuse though 🙄

Rocky is still a janitor but he's happy with his job.

Elizabeth Woodville 🤝 Joan of Kent: most beautiful woman in England

I don't think that the two marriages were as similar as they're sometimes made out to be, considering Joan was not only a Countess in her own right but also a Plantagenet first cousin of the royal family, and Edward was a prince and his father an established king rather than king himself, but either way, WHAT a flex

(I know the designation of "Fair Maid" was posthumous, but I think the compliment paid to Joan's beauty was contemporary just like Elizabeth's? I may be wrong though)

Oh I would have to ask @heartofstanding to help me with this one as I don't know much about Joan of Kent. But yeah, I don't think the two marriages were necessarily identical—Joan was of course a king's granddaughter and Edward III's 1st cousin whilst Elizabeth had her ancestry scorned—still, if Joan had indeed become queen it would have set a precedent for Elizabeth. Not only a precedent for the king marrying an Englishwoman for love, but also a precedent for a queen with non-royal children from a previous non-royal marriage. Still, I'm not sure it would have helped Elizabeth that much given the other set of circumstances Elizabeth had to deal with (namely, people who wanted to depose both her husband and son, and the circumstances of her husband's ascension that called for an international alliance).

Speaking of parallels, it would be interesting to see how the deposition of her son Richard II reflected back on Joan, albeit posthumously.
