cat dad pedro and the cat he “didnt want”
El Gatito (Pedro Pascal x Daughter!Reader)
Word Count: 2,094
A/N: I'm not Chilean I am Mexican... soooo I tried my best to do what I thought he would say... But I hope this is what you were hoping for!
Tumblr media
Your heart pounded in your chest as your anxiety rose the closer you got home. You giggled as the small kitten you rescued moved inside your sweatshirt, with every move it tickled more and more. Finding the kitten was not on your agenda for today, nor was it on the agenda for any day and you knew it definitely was something that your dad wasn’t going to take lightly.
He loves animals, but with how hectic his schedule is, he felt like owning one wasn’t the right choice. Especially how bad he felt having you jump from place to place when he was off filming, but you had begged your dad many times to let you get some sort of pet. The first was a goldfish, that lasted a good few months until your cousins accidentally dropped it on the floor and well, anyone could imagine how well that went.
The second was a hamster and well, your dad tried to play it off that the hamster ran off, but it did not take you long to figure out what really happened. After that, your father started to get bigger roles and it meant being away for longer periods of time. Which led to his decision on no more pets.
But now, you were thought you were responsible and old enough to get a pet and it was as if the universe was agreeing with you. On your way home from school you heard a small meow coming from a trash bin from one of the neighborhoods near your apartment complex. You couldn’t believe it when you found the little kitten in a tapped box, with only a few holes in the box for air, how cruel humanity could be. You didn’t hesitate to pry open the box, inspecting the small kitten before tucking it under your sweatshirt to shelter it from the harsh winter air.
You don’t know how your father is going to react, but you knew the kitten was better off now here with you than it was just a few minutes ago. “It’s just temporary,” you said to yourself, “we’ll foster it until we find a new home for him.” You were confident in your plan, pretend to foster and just slowly fade until a foster fail.
You sighed to yourself as you walked into your apartment building, making your way to the elevator. You looked into your sweatshirt as you waited for the elevator, “I really need you to be on your best behavior, kitty,” you whispered, hoping that the kitty remained silent long enough for you to make it into your room. The elevator door dinged as the doors opened, you stepped in, pressing the correct button for the floor.
Once you were in front of your door, you took in a deep breath before opening the door. “Papi?” you called out as you stepped inside the apartment. You felt the kitten move slightly at the sound of your voice, you walked down the hall, “papi?”
“In here, cariño!” He called from his office. You walked over to the office, standing at the doorway. “I only got a few minutes before I have a meeting, so How was school?” Your dad asked as he looked at you with a big smile.
“It was great!” You smiled, “I won’t keep you, I have a lot of homework to do,” You said as a small meow came from your sweatshirt.
“What was that?”
“N-Nothing,” You smiled, “I should ge-” another meow, followed by the kitten beginning to rustle within your sweatshirt.
“Cariño, what’s that moving inside your sweatshirt?”
“What’s what moving inside my sweatshirt.”
Your dad sighed, taking off his glass before pinching the bridge of his nose, “Take whatever is inside your sweatshirt out right now.” You stared at your dad for a second, hoping that maybe his meeting would start and he could forget everything that is happening right now. “Saca lo! Horita mismo, Y/n!” (take it out, right now)
You rolled your eyes, taking out the small kitten from underneath your sweatshirt, “Ay, Y/n. Ya sabes lo que siento por tener animales.” (you already know how I feel about keeping animsl)
“I know, papi, but I found in a trash can,” you looked up at your dad with your best puppy dog eyes. “He was inside a box that was all taped up, it was so cruel.” Your dad sighed, you were right it was cruel and well, he felt like arguing with you on this would probably turn into a big argument. Maybe it was time for him to give it a try. Plus he couldn’t say no to those eyes of yours.
“Okay, fine, pero no quiero mirar caca en el piso, okay?” (but I don’t want to see poop on the floor)
“Well, it’s a cat, he’ll poop in a litter box.”
“I guess that’s better than nothing, I don’t want scratching up my furniture either,” he sighed, as he glanced at his watch, “My meetings gonna start in a little bit. We’ll talk about getting him to a vet later, for now I want you to do your homework.”
“What? Why?”
“Because your a cat mom now, mija. We have to go buy things for your kid, right?” You couldn’t help but smile, “now go do your homework.”
~~ Time Skip ~~
It had been a few months since you’ve gotten the kitten. Your dad had taken a while to get used to the idea, but today was going to be officially the first time your dad had to take care of the cat without you there. You had planned on going to a friends house for the weekend, meaning your father had to do everything for the kitten.
“He eats at 6 am every morning,”
“6 Am?!”
You gave your dad a small glare, “I feed him before I go to school, so yes, six A.M.” He sighed before motioning for you to continue. “And then he eats again at Three Thirty P.M. otherwise he has small snacks in between and before bed. You have to clean his litter box every day or he will not go and it’ll start to stink.”
“This cat is more high maintenance than I am,” your dad commented. “Anything else?”
“Make sure he has water at all times and he likes to cuddle at night. He might get three A.M. zoomies, but if that happens just leave him in my room to let it all out.”
“Zoomies?” Your dad gave you a puzzled look.
You smiled, “you’ll see tonight.”
“What do you mean, I’ll see tonight?”
“Nothing! See you tomorrow!” You grabbed your things and walked out of the apartment, leaving your dad with your cat.
Pedro looked over at the cat, who had been staring at him from the couch, “No me mires asi,” (Don’t look at me like that) he then rolled his eyes, “I’m talking to a cat.”
The rest of the night was peaceful enough for Pedro and for a moment he thought you had overexaggerated how crazy your cat can be. He glanced over at the cat who had spent most of the night laying down on his designated pillow on the couch, that’s all he’s been doing all night. It felt easy enough for Pedro.
“Maybe I was wrong about you,” Pedro began to say, “Should’ve gotten a kitten sooner if this all you did.” But Pedro would soon regret saying that. He went to bed not long after midnight, leaving the door open to his bedroom and your room to give your cat options to sleep in. He wasn’t sure if your cat would want to sleep in a room he has yet to step foot in, but Pedro had given him the option. “Goodnight, Gatito,” (kitty) Pedro said as he layed in his bed. Gatito wasn’t your cats name, but your dad couldn’t help but always call him that.
Pedro wasn’t sure what time it was when he heard the loud crash, but his first thought was that it was finally happening. His place was finally getting broken into.
He ran out towards the living room, “What the!?” He exclaimed as he saw his T.V. was on the ground along with a few couch pillows. “Que cagada paso!?” Pedro heard a meow coming from behind him, he turned to find your cat walking in from the kitchen, “Gatito, what did you do?” And in an instant it was as if your cat was on drugs, he began climbing the couch and then ran along the cushions.
Pedro groaned to himself, you had warned him about this. He ran behind the cat, catching him after a few minutes. Placing the cat inside your room, he closes the door behind him, “No wonder her stuff is always broken,” He said to himself as he placed the cat on the floor. The cat continued with his chaos, as if nothing had ever happened. Pedro laid himself on your bed, hoping the chaos would soon be over. He watched as your cat ran from one side of the room to the other and couldn’t help but laugh at the silliness. Of course, he could’ve been angry about the broken television and the other small things that are completely replaceable, but he wasn’t. Because that’s what they were, replaceable.
It was all replaceable, to him, everything except for you and the joy this cat had brought you over the past few months. For a long time Pedro was worried about how hard it would be for you, travelling to and from different places, staying at his sister’s house for long periods of time, and not having your mother. He noticed the sadness in your eyes, even if you tried to hide it from him and he always tried his best to be everything you needed. All he hoped was that you knew that and maybe he was quick to say okay to the cat because he saw something in your eyes he had missed. He saw something light up and he saw the little girl he missed and deeply cared for.
Pedro’s thoughts were interrupted when he heard a loud purr come from his side, he glanced over and spotted your cat cuddling beside him. He took in a deep breath, placing his hand on the cat, “you’re not so bad after all, gatito.” Pedro closed his eyes, the purring was soothing to him.
You came home earlier than expected the next day. You weren’t having that much fun at your friends house, “Papi?” you called out, but no response. It was still before nine, so there was a good chance your dad was still asleep. You made your way over to his room, but was quick to notice the open door and the empty bed. “Weird,” you said to yourself. You shrugged to yourself, he could’ve gone to run errands; you made your way over to your room. As soon as you opened the door, you were met with a surprise. Your dad laying on your bed, dead asleep, with your cat curled on top of him. You smiled as you took your phone out and captured the moment before posting it on your instagram, captioning it, “The dad and the cat he never wanted. #CatDad”
You climbed on the bed, lifting your cat off of your dad, “What are you doing with my gatito?” You heard your dad say.
You chuckled, “Your gatito?”
“We bonded last night,” your dad mumbled, “now put him back.” You rolled your eyes before placing your cat back on top of your dad. Your dad opened his eyes before sitting up on the bed, placing the cat on his lap. He placed a small kiss on your forehead, “What are you doing home so soon?”
You shrugged, “was anxious to see the damage.”
“No damage here.”
“Really? Because it seems to me we have no T.V.”
“Some damage here,” your dad smiled.
“Plus, I would have never gotten to see this gem if I didn’t come home early,” you said as you pulled your phone out and showed him your instagram post.
“Ay, mija,” Pedro exclaimed. “You couldn’t have made me look, I don’t know, nicer? Look you can see the drool on my cheek!”
You laughed as you zoomed into the picture, “even better!”
Pedro couldn’t help but laugh too, it was contagious. The drool on his face didn’t matter to him, all that mattered was that you were happy.

I like that Pedro Pascal is once again playing a gruff tough guy father figure to an adopted child found in a rough, perilous environment far removed from civilization.

Probably an unpopular opinion
So, I'm not the best at playing games, but when I do play one and actually enjoy the game, I try to be thorough. Also a very annoying thing to me and my friends...mostly my friends, is how well I remember things. Even stupid ass, small details that have caught my eye. I'll be the first to admit, if it doesn't catch my interest, there is a possibility I won't remember it.
Turning a game (or book) into a movie and/or a show... yes I know there will be things that are different. Yes I know they do not have time to make it perfect or make it just like the game or book. Yes I know funding can be a reason for this. I understand that people will change things just because they feel just feel like it or because they believe it will add to the story. I strongly believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Also spoiler alert throughout this post. If you enjoyed the HBO show, you also may not want to read this word vomit of an opinion post.
That being said...
My opinion on The Last of Us show...and I'm very, VERY sorry to say is that it was mediocre at best. God, that fuckin' hurts to say. I wanted to like it. I really did. They had a wonderful case. The special effects were amazing. Those infected were awesome. It was a beautiful world. They did add a very small bit to the story that I personally believe was pretty good.
But...they took so much away from it and did not give enough back to make up for it.
The infected. They looked really cool. They did a fantastic job on them. I enjoyed them when they were there. Where the fuck were they? They created a "zombie" show without many zombies. I'm not saying every single episode needs them. In fact, I'm saying you should not have them in all the episodes. It would have been nice to have more of them though. I felt like this world did not show me the true hardships of survival with infected. It almost felt like an after thought. Again, loved the infected and enjoyed them. They left me wanting more. I mean, 1 bloater? Were these creatures playing on very, very easy so something?
The relationships. I loved the Bill and Frank episode. I found myself tore. I loved that they gave Bill and Frank a better ending. I believe this episode was a good breather so the viewers could get away from the sad, scary (not so scary) world of the Last of Us. They captured Bill to a T and gave new life to Frank. I laughed and cried this episode. It was the best episode. That being said, I was salty. I will admit, my being salty was mostly because we didn't get to see Bill, Joel, and Ellie all together. Ellie and Bill butt heads and all. We missed out on Joel learning to make bombs from Bill's traps, but we can just assume he learned it from other life experiences and chose not to use them. Didn't get to hear the frustration in Bill's voice over Joel saying he owed him a favor and asking for a car.
Joel and Ellie. Tell me again, why did Ellie become attached to this version of Joel? (Sorry Pedro Pascal, we love you and I know you followed the script you were given. You did great!) Joel does start off very cold and distance from Ellie, yes. Joel comes around much faster though in the game. He trusted her with her own gun and she didn't have to hide that she had one. He became a father figure and a close friend. Did I miss where they bonded? When he got to Tommy's community, he was talking about how he was scared of the dangers from my understanding. Did I miss understand the scene? I remember in the game him telling Tommy he didn't want to bring Ellie all the way because he was scared of losing her alone the way. He didn't belive he could go through losing her because he became close to her and he had already lost one daughter. I'm sorry to say, but I don't feel that Ellie would have been that close to show Joel. He was kinda a wet blanket and more of a bodyguard rather than a friend or father figure.
Sam and Henry. Okay, I get it they were brothers. I get the creatures were trying to add to the story and were trying to pull heartstrings. I also understand that I am a huge asshole. Sam being deaf was too much of a risk for do what Henry did. (Again the actor that had played Sam did a very great job. It was the role he was given and the role he was cased for. He did awesome. I do not want to take that from the child.) The Henry in the show was very selfish. Yes, no child deserves to go without medication, but sadly that is life and it happens in a world were there are no zombies. In their world they have zombies and medication is very hard to come by. Henry betrays the bettering of life for this community for the "bettering" of his little brother's life. I say "bettering" because if he did not betray that very good man he brought up in the show, Sam could have lived the rest of his (probably short) life more comfortably or at the least safer. Instead, deaf Sam suffers the same fate as non-deaf Sam does in the game. Spoiler alert, he gets bit, he turns, and Herny has to kill an infected version of his brother. In a world with zombies, keeping a deaf child around just too risky if you don't have people to help keep them safe. I apologize, but as heartless as it sounds Henry should have just let go of Sam sooner and let him die. It would have been less painful and better than getting infected.
Changing or taking shit out. The zombies...in a world destroyed by them, they were not many to be seen.
Bill, killing off Bill cause us to miss the graveyard, going through town, hanging upside down and having to keep Ellie safe like that, the school and the gym with the bloater, pushing the truck, Ellie and Bill's back and forth. So many golden moments that could have made for great episodes. I would say two at least and three or four at the very most.
The mall. This was still an okay episode. Ellie didn't have that dumbass fight and walk off from Riley in the game, but they did have a fight. They left out the fun water gun fight and throwing rocks at those cars for the question game. I'm guessing the died body they found was suppose to be the guy they spoke about in the game where they got the booze and talked about the guy having a horse. A little fuzzy for me is what story Riley and Ellie actually danced in. I want to say it was a clothing store where the water gun fight took place not the Halloween story. Riley was not stationed at the mall and did not make bombs. Ellie was suppose to be pretty sarcastic about asking Riley to not leave and them tell her yeah go. Then ask her not to go similar to the kiss scene they had. 1 infected. They were chased through the whole mall by a flock of infected, not just attacked by 1. I just don't see how believable it would be for two trained individuals to both get bit by 1 infected. Teens or not.
Mask. Not having them wear mask more often. This was a pretty big deal in the same. Asking Ellie how she was breathing the air and then having to put them on in many different buildings. It's a infection that could be caused by breathing and they had 1 episode where they talked about it with Ellie. This is only understandable for the show because they took out most of the really cool scenes they would have had to wear them.
The leaning building. I was excited when they showed that building. They tickled my balls and then did not finish the job. Don't tease me like that and say , "PK you don't get to go inside, and you don't get to climb the outside of that bad ass, leaning building."
The flooded subway. I know this would have been really, really hard for them to shoot. I will be easy on them here. I just wish it could have been possible.
The raiders. The ones they had to jump off the bridge for because of Henry and the ones they ran into because of getting off the high rise. The high rise was not in the show so try could have avoided them better, but sense they didn't go that route good thing for this Ellie and Joel there were only a few. With Henry and Sam, you went through a city with gates and walls and large spot lights. Understanding that they took this out with making Sam deaf and it probably would have sucked to do all that and harder to have them jumping around and then jumping off that bridge. Without the bridge as well Henry didn't have to tell Joel that he knew that Ellie and Joel were strong and would survive.
The sewer. They did an okay job with the sewer, but did not give it as much life. Where was the story and big getting separated scene? I know not everyone cares about the story of the sewer community, but with everything else they been leaving out it would have been nice to see.
Fighting Bloaters, we seen 1 bloater and that was the one that killed the actor that was Tommy's voice actor from the game. We missed the one in the gym because well, Bill. Didn't get to see the ones in the college and the ones in the underground highway. Fun scenes to play for anyone who doesn't know.
When Ellie runs away. We got the scene where she's reading the dairy, but we did not get the whole part where she stole a horse and runs away. Fight raiders to find her and then fighting more once Joel and Tommy found her in that house.
The last stand. They did pretty good in the hospital fight. So good, I wished they showed more of the fighting because they didn't show a lot of it in the show.
Imma just leave this here too, they had 100 million dollars in funding and this is what they gave us. The first season of walking dead gave us better with only 20.4 million dollars. I'm not saying walking dead was perfect. I know their zombies are easier to do, but it was a zombie TV show with zombies.
Maybe I'm wrong for being as picky as I am and i know my thoughts on the last of us show is probably unpopular, but like I said in the beginning, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I know mine as pretty negative towards HBO's last of us and I'm probably the asshole, but with claims saying next big thing and stuff along those lines. A promise was made and it did not deliver.
I apologize again.

hiyaaaaa, who are your top 3 fav star wars characters? and/or your top 3 Final Fantasy 7 characters? who’s your favorite slasher? I’m a big fan of Ghostface! oh and I also loooove your “Star Wars Characters Love Language”, what you wrote for Anakin is especially my favorite. I’d just love to be held by him OTL
(also, I noticed that your askbox doesn’t have the ability to turn on Anon for those who are more shy, if you want to find the setting for that it’s in “Edit Appearance” in your blog’s settings. unfortunately it can only be found on desktop/web browser. if Anonymous is intentionally off (bc haters or something) then ignore this and sorry if i overstepped my boundary! ^^’)
Hi!! Thank you soo much for asking and pointing out that requesting as anon was turned off! I rushed to my Pc the minute I read it and fixed it. You can now ask questions anonymously. Again thank you so much for pointing this out, I probably would have never noticed that. AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ENJOYING MY LOVE LANGUAGE POST! I really appreciate it :) I honestly thought I was a horrible writer haha again, thank you so much!! Have a lovely day and I hope you enjoy what I wrote for you! If you have anything else you‘d like to share with me, you can happily hop in my Request/question inbox and request again! Maybe even as Anon this time ;)
(Requests are open)
Top 3 Fandom characters
A/n: Okay sorry to interrupt again, but this is literally perfect to write rn because I am on a car ride right now (so many Right now’s) and I really need to do something.. OKAY THATS ALL THANK YOU
Star Wars
Okay this one is VERY hard… I really had to think about this for a looong time.. I will explain myself as to why I chose each character :)
1.Din Djarin
OKAY HEAR ME OUT!! I‘m a sucker for Pedro Pascal, but I just love Mandos character in itself! He doesn’t let anyone get close to him but at the same time he builds trust quite fast. Most of the time. He knows who he can trust and is always on guard.
He is daddy. No like literally he has an adoptive, green baby on his side at all times. If you can gain his trust, he can be quite friendly and caring. I cannot tell you how many feelings explode inside of me when he says „Go! I‘ll cover you!“ LIKE AHHHH
2. Anakin Skywalker
Do I need to explain? He is so much like me!! Especially the high ego and the stubbornness..DO NOT COME AT ME LIKE „Oh so you think you can change him?“ HELL. NO. I would not be able to change a single thing about him, especially when palpatine lures him to the dark side. I would try to get him back of course but he was so gaslighted he would not change his mind.
Still he is handsome and has a great personality, even if he‘s a Jedi he still keeps his personality. He just shits on Jedi rules (relationship with padme) I don’t know why I like him so much, it’s just something I know for a fact. Legit grew up like that.
OKAY HOLD UP!! This was between Ahsoka and Obi wan.. and I‘m sorry to say this but..
3. Ahsoka Tano
I‘M SORRY BUT I CAN‘T TELL YOU HOW MUCH I FANGIRLED FOR AHSOKA IN MANDALORIAN SO I JUST HAVE TO GO WITH HER.
I see obi wan more as a father figure.. he is just papa :0
Ahsoka my love is a girl boss, fleeing from troopers that try to catch her for something she didn’t do and then realizing that being a Jedi is just meh and retreating from her status of being a Jedi? Just a girl boss. You have to love her for that
AND HELLO?!!? SHE LOOKS MAD GORGEOUS WHEN SHE FIGHTS HAVE YOU SEEN THE MANDOLORIAN LIKE WWWOOOOOWWWW
she is just gorgeous and has a beautiful personality. I would befriend her asap if I see her. No hesitation.
Final Fantasy
This one is pretty easy ngl. No hesitation while choosing at all.
1. Sephiroth
Gorgeous hair, gorgeous face and a habit of killing people. What can I say. My dream men. At first I hated him but then I read like one fanfic on accident and I saw him in a completely different light. Suddenly when I played the game myself I would scream in my pillow like a mad women.
I‘m sorry but he is just my number one. Mwuah Chefs Kiss
2. Cloud strife
He has so much sass it’s adorable. That oke scene where he was all dressed up? I questioned my speciality all over again. He literally slayed in that dress. I wish I looked like that on prom :,(
He is so cute and he is the only one that I would big spoon… like- ever. He is the only one that gets that privilege.
3. Tifa
Another girl boss. I‘m not a pervert and chose her because of her body I‘m head over heals for her kind and caring personality. She is just sooo sweet!! And suddenly I can bark very well..
Tifa just had to be here. I feel like she would be the best girlfriend ever. I MEAN- caring, kind, brave?!?? She has sooo much to offer
Slasher boys
Okay hard choice again… but I feel like Michael doesn’t really have much personality and he doesn’t talk.. what am I going to do??? So I chose as my favorite slasher…
GHOSTFACE!
Not the dbd ghostface!! I mean ghostface from the first movie. Scream 1996!! Stu and Billy are just something. I mean if they actually like you and stuff one of the two might talk to you as ghostface and leave you alive ?
Not many slasher boys talk and Ghostace has the most personality.. I can just imagine maybe trying to talk to him..? I‘m a lot like Stu on my good days.. soo I figure that he and I would go well together.. as for Billy? It would be hard. Way harder then trying to befriend Stu.
You have to like ghostface!

GQ MEXICO - PEDRO PASCAL 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems that Pedro Pascal is in all possible universes. Here and there. In the past, in the present, and in galaxies far, far away. Today, the actor is considered the great entertainment reference and one of those in charge of saving a franchise that seemed lost. Enough reasons to talk exclusively about discipline, gastronomy, creeds and how he traumatized his father in 30 seconds.
The RAE defines 'creed' as the set of ideas, principles or convictions of a person or a group. For example, by creed, one can leave his country and be in exile. It happens that one can leave the loved one behind. Or simply live in another reality. And also one can put on a helmet to pretend never to take it off again. If that is the path to follow, the creed says that it must be done with the profession of faith and without stopping to look. Turning the pages of the script for The Mandalorian , the Disney + series that revived passion and nostalgia for the Star Wars franchise , Pedro Pascal came across this definition in every dialogue and moment, and reflection carved his way.
Tumblr media
More than two decades have passed since the Chilean-American, Pedro Pascal, began his acting career and today, named as the great reference of 2020 , he misses the theater and it still hurts him not to have the discipline to exercise and maintain a diet sana while acknowledging the irony of having the best year of her career in the midst of one of the worst in recent history. But even in physical solitude, the man who carried the best-selling Christmas baby rescues many positive things and shares his vision of the universes he has traveled through, his passion for distant galaxies and how to traumatize your family with a simple scene of TV. In an interview, the Mandalorian of Latinamerica.
IMDB named you the 2020 benchmark in entertainment, a year in which the world took refuge in fiction. How was living your best time locked up and what do you rescue on a human level from it?
The strength of family relationships and friendship. For them, we endure this physical loneliness. I do find it ironic that in 2020 I received projects so well received by the public, although they were carried out before the pandemic and their impact was during it, and that year I was isolated and alone. But I must emphasize that this loneliness is a privilege when many people had to continue working, surviving and maintaining the functioning of the world. We only had to be alone, but they more than that and you must value it too.
Among the activities you have missed, how much do you miss the theater?
Much indeed. It's something that I miss the most and being with people without being afraid. See a play and return to those experiences of being with people doing and living things in common. That is what I need most, in addition to my loved ones.
Disney fully entered streaming and its strong letter has your face, what do you think of the discussion of platforms against movie theaters?
There are incredible things in streaming and many people develop great projects that they did not have access to before. The diversity of voices is gaining ground and it is important to recognize that opportunities grow exponentially and boundaries change. It is incredible the availability that we have to very well made content and how creative people can share their work in different ways. But I also want to be honest: limiting the experience of watching content only on our gadgets or at home is a mistake that affects the stories we can tell. You have to achieve a mix of opportunities and challenges.
Tumblr media
You jump between the fictional universes that mark the last decades until you reach the universe of universes. What is your first Star Wars memory and how do you summarize the essence of this legendary story?
For me, Star Wars is nostalgia itself. It is one of the primary things in my memory, of my childhood. I came to the United States with my Chilean family when I was less than two years old and one of my first memories is going to the movies with my dad to see the saga ; it becomes one of those romantic childhood things that opens your mind, so imagine how special it is to participate in this project. I think the creators of The Mandalorian perfectly understand this nostalgia and that power, and they managed to count on that element as a great ally for the world of Star Wars and I couldn't be happier to be part of it. (From which we expect the third season The Mandalorian)
The Mandalorian exploits the power and nuances of your voice, did you have that letter on your resume?
I didn't know I could do it, but I resorted to my theater preparation, which was very physical on all levels and feelings. There are elements that have to do with and that are essential to create a role, and they teach you that the voice is something primary, something you have to start with and you cannot hide. Now I have learned much more about the importance of that, and how to use it economically. The body also has to do with that, because something very subtle communicates something. In The Mandalorian , I had a great time figuring out how to do it, they gave me the opportunity to develop it in different ways. The opportunity to be very intense at it.
What happens to the ego when someone works under a suit and a mask?
In the conversations about the project, before doing it, we were communicated the idea and the concept of the entire season , so I clearly understood what it was. I wanted it to be the most powerful version of what they were trying to accomplish, so there was no point in involving my ego, you know? It was already very clear what the project meant, so I knew about the character , the piece that it represented for him and the opportunity that it was for me, so I was only focused on executing in a better way the part that touched me in everything this. In the theater, I worked several times under a mask and it helped me develop the experience.
Tumblr media
It seems that The Mandalorian has a very theatrical base ...
Exactly, and thanks to the physical experience of working in theater, doing a play a few times a week, discovering how your body and your voice communicate , being part of a whole image, and how you will tell that story visually, I achieved this character. I never imagined that it would be something I would have to use on such an important Star Wars project .
On the list of entertainment greats, there are names like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, do you think John Favreau should be added to the list?
I think your name is already included. Without a doubt, it is in that category and it is incredible. His vision fascinates me. I remember an episode in the second season , and I had some boots and I walked so much in the snow, it stuck to them. He figured it out, so he talked to the art department about the kind of boots you need when you're out in the snow. They approached me and gave me new ones that fulfilled the idea I was looking for. He noticed it in an instant. It is such a wonderful detail and it is repeated to scale in every session with him. He thinks of absolutely everything and his vision of the use of technology is admirable. He is someone who makes you feel motivated and always sees how to achieve the goal.
One of the reflections in the series is on how and under what circumstances a man can break his creed and way of life. What makes you break with your beliefs?
I think that you must follow your heart so as not to regret anything; Although sometimes it brings pain or conflict, deep down when you look back, everything is worth it because it was what you heard in your heart. I am very afraid to deny that feeling or not to attend to it. I am 45 years old now and I cannot believe I have a finer philosophy. Make it more disciplined. It's ridiculous, but I'm trying to accept that I am and it's all I can say, "follow your heart." Although, you know, I'm not on a good diet yet, I still have trouble sleeping or exercising.
Still good at Chilean empanadas?
Yes, I couldn't stop. And also how good that I do not live in Mexico City because I would only spend it eating. I could move my whole life to defe just to eat.
Tumblr media
I want to deviate and ask you, with whom did you see the chapter of your death in Game of Thrones and what traumas did you cause in your family?
For me, no trauma. I separate myself well from the characters , although I fully understand that if I were a Game of Thrones audience and loved that character, it would make an incredible impression on me. Thank you that it was not. I had to interpret it and there was a model of my head to be crushed that way with the tubes and the fake blood, you know? Me lying there, with pieces of my meat, it was funny in the end. But not for my family. For them there is nothing funny but traumatic. My dad's voice changed completely when we saw the episode, he turned around and said: “I didn't like it, Pedro . No, Pedro , not this ”.
The media found similarities between your villain in Wonder Woman: 1984 and Donald Trump. When playing a character with characteristics like this, do you humanize him or do you understand him?
The project had nothing to do with the former president. They always told me that my character in Wonder Woman: 1984 was emotionally messy, and I took that and took that as far as possible. Instead of creating it with images or certain inspirations from life, it was more to work with what was on the page. Personally, what made sense to me is the size of the story that is being told and there is always more, and we all want more. Creatively, if this makes sense, that meant "blowing her out of the park." Connect a hit with the character and be committed to telling his story faithfully, in a way that was true to me. So all the exterior elements found their way.
What a way to start 2021 with the theme of the Capitol ... How do you perceive that moment?
I am not a politician and it is not that I do not have an opinion about this type of event; however, it is not necessary to state the obvious. My opinion would be very simple compared to that of a person who studied this, who knows how to act in these kinds of scenarios; I believe that I am next to the majority who experienced this, which is the logical result of what we have experienced during these years and we are all horrified . It was distressing to see this violence.
If you had the monolith in your hands, what would your wish be?
My wish would be… it's impossible, really (laughs). I think it is to be together again, with less fear and that people have the opportunity to connect.
Tumblr media
What is your position on the reality that Chile has experienced in recent years and how has the relationship with your country been since exile?
It is something that I am developing and I continue to do in my life, trying to understand that it is my home. To be in Chile is to be at home, but my life has been very nomadic, living different things and having many influences; so it is strange, I do not feel with the title of a complete Chilean identity nor with an American one.
Neither here nor there?
In a sense, but I'm also completely both. My parents are Chilean , my brothers were born there before my parents traveled, and I came back sometimes because my family is very large; in fact, my parents came back. It has always been there, it continues to develop, and it will be a part of me. I don't know if it answers your question, but it has a lot to do with who I am.
What is your relationship with Latin American cinema? Are you interested?
Much, it has invaded me in life like American cinema. The movies that I carry in my heart, seeing something like Y tu mama was also something that changed me; I also love the work that comes out of Chile , and the only thing I can say is that it is a cinema that needs more access and projects.
Tumblr media
Today you have a comedy with Nicolas Cage on the door, can you tell us something?
It's my first shot at comedy , as a complete story within the genre. Speaking of American influences , in the 80s I saw all the films where Nicolas Cage appeared , he came into my life and it's great to be his partner after seeing all his performances.
How is the relationship you have with the comedy genre?
I love it, I have done a lot of comedy in the theater, what happens is that in film and television issues , I was always part of drama castings . And in the cinema, you go where the doors open; Although I identify with one or the other, I think that being an actor , one goes and does what one has to do. Comedy is something unique, it is very challenging because it must be very real to be funny, you cannot hide or use normal tricks. I was very excited to have this challenge in front of a camera.
Finally, Pedro, after going through so many fictional worlds, literally, what do you dream about when you sleep?
I dream that my bathroom is dirty, that I haven't done my math homework, that the oven is on and all that stuff. Sure, there are times when I close my eyes and see myself in all these projects , although my conscience is with the anxieties of the day that you can imagine.
Tumblr media
Without a doubt, Pedro Pascal is a particular type .

The brothers' movie
11/07/2015
Tumblr media
They don't use the same last name, but they are siblings. Pedro Pascal (40) the Chilean actor who starred in Game of Thrones and now has a starring role in the Netflix series Narcos, uses his mother's surname because it is easier to pronounce in English. 17 years younger, Lucas Balmaceda Pascal (23), also an actor, debuted in Los 80 and today stars in the TVN series Juana Brava. Here, both talk for the first time about their relationship, their love for cinema and their mutual admiration.
José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal was born in Chile, but a few months later he had to go into exile with his parents and his older sister, Javiera, to Denmark. It was the end of 1975. Thanks to the Rockefeller scholarship granted for his father, the doctor José Balmaceda Riera, a year later they moved to the United States: first they lived in San Antonio, Texas. Life there was just beginning and it was not easy.
Seventeen years later, in 1992, Lucas Balmaceda was born in Orange County, California, into the comfort of a family that was financially in its prime. His dad was at the peak of his career: as a fertility specialist and director of one of the University of California's reproductive health centers. But suddenly they moved back to Chile when Lucas was three years old and his brother Nicolas was eight. The two older ones stayed there. Pedro was already studying drama at Orange County High School of the Arts. Then he went to New York to study theater at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
After a couple of small appearances in TV series, in 2014 he took the big leap in his career: he played Prince Oberyn in Game of Thrones, which made him world famous. Today, he has a starring role in the series Narcos. He is also filming a movie with Matt Damon and Willem Dafoe.
Fame came early for Lucas. After leaving Saint George High School in 2010, he studied theater at the Universidad Católica, and he began to shine: in year fourth, he starred in the theater play "La noche obstinada", by choreographer Pablo Rotemberg, and got a role in the successful television series Los 80 and today, in his last year, he is the co-star of Juana Brava, the new TVN nighttime series.
Scene one:
Lucas appears in Pedro's life
P: "I was 17 when Lucas was born. He was a baby when I left to go to university. I remember my first visit back and Lucas, who was not even two years old, was already the owner of the house. I remember those looks, wanting to tell me: 'I don't know who you are, but this is my house, mate.
To this day I have never seen that personality in another child. It was fascinating to see that wit in someone so small. Since he was a kid he had that fierce intelligence... The four siblings, Javiera, the eldest and the queen of the family; Nicolas, the doctor; Lucas and I are like a compact and consistent unit. I can't imagine life without them".
L: "Pedro was studying at the university in New York when I was born. When he went home for vacations to see the family, as I didn't know him, I thought: 'who is this guest, who is this weirdo who kisses my mother? She's mine!'. Back in Chile, every year Pedro came to visit us. It was the most entertaining thing in the world for me. He was much older and he would come with all the coolness, with all the culture of cinema, with horror movies that were not available here. Then we would watch them and play them out, we would do sketches. We would play that Pedro was a murderous monster and we would escape from him. We were each a character. He was very funny, he did voices, he impersonated people. He gets mad when I tell him, but I've always found that he has a Jim Carrey thing about him, he manages to make some impressive faces. When he came on, I couldn't stop watching him, he was too entertaining. We are all big movie buffs thanks to my dad. When I was three years old, he took my brothers and me to see Batman. I remember crying hysterically. I was very young, sensitive, and being in the cinema was like entering to another reality: loud noises, giant screen. I didn't understand anything.
Scene two
Transplanted
P: "What's Chilean about me and what's gringo about me is a very interesting question, because I don't think even at 40 years old I've been able to figure it out. I was raised and educated in the United States and socialized a lot with American pop culture, but Chilean pride has always been unwavering. My parents were exiled for eight years. So our visits to Chile were regular. My whole life I have lived in the United States and my whole life I have visited my relatives in Chile. However, since my siblings were raised in Chile, my connection to the country is much stronger today and it is something I am grateful for. Something that happens to me a lot is that when I say I've been in the U.S. my whole life, they say, "Well, you're a gringo then! And after a conversation in my fluent Spanish with a clear Chilean accent that same person turns around and says: I've been listening to you, you're Chilean!
L: "I am Chilean because I lived and grew up here since I was three years old, but at the same time I have a cultural disconnection: my parents lived 25 years in the United States, my brothers are gringos. My visual culture is super gringo, the TV shows I watched when I was a kid or the movies I watch to this day I understand them from that place: as an American. More than being born in the United States, I feel it's because of my family's background".
SCENE THREE:
The performance
P: "There were good years and bad years (when I started my acting career in the United States). Many years I was a waiter to supplement my income. But from a very young age I was auditioning for professional jobs. In my late twenties my career in the theater was relatively consistent. Then, when opportunities in television arose, I was consolidating and it became much easier to pay my expenses. I think that struggle, going through those situations, empowers you a lot and it's one of the things I'm enormously grateful for. And Game of Thrones was an incredible gift. It's the best role I've ever played and they're the best people I've ever worked with."
L: "It's Pedro's fault that I wanted to be an actor. But when I told him I wanted to study theater it was hard for him, more than anything, because he cares about me and studying theater is hard. You have to be very wise and have a super high self-esteem to take care of yourself. Pedro went through many things. If there is an actor who doesn't have contacts in the United States, it's him. Everything he has achieved is because of his work. That's why when people ask me why I don't go to the U.S., it's a resounding no. Being Pedro Pascal's little brother is not going to get me around the corner; I would have to be Tom Cruise's twin to achieve anything. Even so, Pedro had many failed career starts. In 2011, for example, he was offered a starring role in a series called Wonder Woman and it was eventually canceled. That's why, when Games of Thrones came up, I was like, wow! We were all freaking out, because Games of Thrones is like a worldwide trending topic. All the episodes he was in, we were all watching them together at my house, eating pizza or sushi."
SCENE FOUR:
Mutual lessons
P: "I try not to get too involved in anything Lucas does or how he does it. He has single-handedly created each of his experiences and is one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen. He loves his work and is continually developing his skills for television and theater, and eventually film. He executes like a real artist and, to be honest, it is more common for me to learn something from him than for him to learn something from me. I mean that very sincerely. Lucas reminds me to work hard and keeps me inspired. When I saw him in Los 80 I was incredibly proud, but not surprised. I was seeing something I had always known. The only advice I've given him is to not be such a workaholic, to take care of himself and to be proud of what he's accomplished and what he still has yet to accomplish. Deep down, I'm always going to be the protective big brother."
L: "Pedro is an object of admiration for me. What he says is law for me. Sometimes I ask him: 'Pedro, did you see that movie?' and he says: 'Yes, I didn't like it'. I tell him: 'Oh, I didn't like it either'. The nice thing about our relationship is that it happens so sporadically, once or twice a year, that the moments when we see each other are very intense. We either fight a lot or we love each other too much, but it's always like a story, like a movie. While he's there and I'm here, we talk a lot on WhatsApp and Facebook".
P: "With Lucas we always keep each other up to date on what movies to watch, what TV shows are good. I bug him all the time asking him about what's going on in his life and I'm always asking him about his perspective on things. Despite being away from each other for a long time, Lucas and I are very close and always have been. I see Lucas at the beginning of an amazing career, with an unwavering curiosity and passion. I love it when he confides in me about things he is enjoying or situations he is dealing with."
L: "I've never seen Pedro in theater, but I've been told he's tremendous. On camera, I find that he has a very intense look. He also has, and in that we are very similar, a very strong visual culture, the fact that we have always liked horror movies. He plays characters that hide something, dark characters. A great strength is that he is very sensual, he knows how to handle himself well from seduction".
P: "Lucas is brave, he's fearless. There's nothing he's not willing to try, he's never going to give up on a challenge, he's never going to leave something halfway, no matter what that means to him. Lucas is unstoppable.

in which adira enters the party and just starts blabbing on about her relationship with a film no matter what effing convo you were just having
Listen. I’mma spout off about my hard-on for Prospect. So if you’re not here for me and my little puke of nerddom, I apologize, but not really.
If you keep reading, It’s gonna get really something up in here. There’s a lot of exposition your don’t need. And too many pictures. I’m just here to talk to myself. Unless you wanna talk Prospect with me, then come find me.
My love for Prospect started with the short film on Dust. Was a time, whippersnappers, when I absorbed all the sci-fi and horror shorts on Dust and Prospect was one of the only ones I saved and revisited. The superb world-building in a compact story! The father/daughter relationship is actually loving and respectful in that short and the ending is super bleak and I’m like oh scratch, this is the set up for a longer story I want to know more about.
Then I heard they were making a feature-length film out of it.
And then I forgot about it for a long time.
Meantime a little show called The Mandalorian came around and changed my life. I found this dude named Pedro Pascal (perhaps you’ve heard? big hands? broad AF? world’s best mustache? brown eyes? flat ass? cinnamon bun?) and I’m like, balllls I’m in love and that’s the end put me in the ground I’m done here.
But then Prospect came up in my “we think you’ll love this movie” cue on Netflix and I’m like, oh yeah! I didn’t know they actually made the film! I’ll have to watch it.
Wait. PEDRO’S IN THIS? BONE-EFFING-ISSS. I put it at the top of my list. But. Because the girl and the father were the main characters in the short, I assumed the same in the movie too. Didn’t realize Pedro was a lead, thought he was just playing a passing role and let it sit for a hot second.
Watched it, and I think if you follow me, you’ll understand that it did things to me.
So we have 1. existing love of the short film, and 2. Pedro “Ezra’s gonna wreck you” Pascal.
But what actually hooked me? 3. World building and DESIGN. And that, my kitkats, is why we’re here tonight and I’m having a moment.
I am a HOOOOOOOOORRRRRR for cinematic design. (Please don’t get me started on how Wes Anderson can put a bag over his stories and characters so I can screw his aesthetic art department all night long. Also, I don’t feel that way about all of Wes’ films. Also don’t get me started on Royal Tennenbaums or Fantastic Mr. Fox or Moonrise Kingdom or we’ll be here all night for a different kind of love fest.)
I am also a fan of visual and modern art, and I do know of the art collective TAKA out in Seattle and when I learned they did all the design for this film, I kind of dropped my innards out my shoot.
The further discovery that they designed and were selling marketing ephemera for the film? Stop. Just. Stop. Take my dollars.
(I am embarrassed to say how much I would shell out for Cee’s headphones if they were on offer.) I just got done framing the posters which are coming with me to work to hang in my office, so I thought I’d do a photo shoot before they leave the house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE DESIGN. THE EFFING DESIGN. THE LAYOUT OF ALL THE PROPS. I am so hard for this.
Bonus:
Puzo sticker:
They made an in-world cartoon character. He’s basically the Totoro of the Prospect world.
Tumblr media
Bitchin’ patch:
Tumblr media
MOTHER LOVIN TRADING EFFING CARDS SUMBITCHES:
Each one of them has in-universe symbols and design elements, as well as text in the in-universe fonts.
Tumblr media
And, of course, the guide to getting rich on the Green Moon:
(these photos are not mine)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THEY MADE. A WHOLE LANGUAGE AND CARTOON CHARACTER AND POLITICAL FIGURE AND WORLD FOR THIS MOVIE. And you don’t really even learn about it in the movie. It’s just there. All the symbols on the trading cards. The product packaging design. Why is there a lock of braided hair on Fahr’s musical instrument? DON’T CARE. MEANS SOMETHING IN WORLD. BECAUSE DEDICATED DESIGN.
(This is the part where I admit that I own all the extended versions of LOTR not just because I love the films but because of the PRODUCTION DOCUMENTARIES. Because DEDICATED DESIGN. I am that girl.) Anyway. I’m going to go and discover new things about a stand-alone movie that I already am pretty nerdy for. I’ll leave you to the convo you were having. If you wanna come join me in the weirdo corner, just follow the scent of fornicating channel rats....

Okay— i havent really played red dead redemption 2 yet since im still holding myself off from that at the moment but man, let me tell you how much I absolutely LOVED playing Last of Us and Until Dawn (well... not really played Until Dawn but instead watched my brother’s playthrough of it so yeah).
Of course, yknow I gotta pull out Joel for my favorite character in lou. Do I really need any further explanation?? Him and Lee are literally the same character just in different fonts. Lee is like... italics while Joel is bold and maybe all caps as well. I love that he’s also very different from Lee since he’s more on the tough-love kinda dad while the latter is softer when it comes to Clementine. Both deserve best father-figures award in all honesty <33
I can’t remember much from watching Until Dawn with my older sibling but I for one, will have to say that my favorite characters are Sam and Josh. It’s a weird mix I’m aware— but I just really like how nice and Sam was and if ever I had a friend like her I would be really grateful. She’s very pretty too so that’s a plus. Josh is a very interesting character in my opinion and I honestly kinda knew he was fishy from the start. I understand him a little but since I’d kinda (well not really) do the same if my “friends” did the same to my sister. Idk I just find characters like him very interesting and... how do I say this? Flawed? A very flawed character but in a perfect sense. Not to mention that I have a crush on his model so yeah *coughs*
A fun little bonus : I don’t really play Uncharted— (i only watched and played the fourth one) but I found it really fun and challenging! My cousin forced me to play it on hard mode on my first playthrough, and I‘d be lying if I said I didn’t find it enjoyable. If you find yourself liking LOU’s gameplay then I recommend playing Uncharted even if it’s only the fourth game since they’re kinda similar imo! The story isn’t that hard to pick up as well so if you do decide to go through with it I promise that it won’t be too confusing!
Hope you have fun playing once you get your ps4 soon~! 💗
AHHH they all sound so fun ???? and omg if i fell in love with lee then i'm sure i'll fall in love w joel. i heard pedro pascal is going to be playing him in a tlou movie or show and i absolutely love pedro so i'm super excited
thank you so much for everything !!! i'll update and update on my stuff and the games i get and how i've enjoyed them <3
i've heard of uncharted but not much so i'll def do more research !! ahgdjdh i'm just really excited thank you <33333

The Mandalorian s2 ep1 Reactions Post That’s right I’m BACK
and none of you not even god himself can stop me from rambling about space cowboy dad and tiny green baby stuff for much longer than any sane person should
the TL;DR is that I still love this show SO MUCH, beware a bunch of spoilers under the cut!
- costume design wise I LOVE how badly the armour fits Cobb Vanth
Tumblr media
especially when you get shots with him and Din side by side for contrast:
Tumblr media
It’s not just that it’s clearly not made for him (it seems he’s a lot lankier and more wiry than Boba is), he simply doesn’t know how to wear it, and he doesn’t know how to take care of it, because he doesn’t know what it means. Remember when Din’s breastplate got bent completely out of shape by the mudhorn and he had it repaired to the best of his ability long before they even finished with the ship? That’s why he looks so grounded and natural in it and Vanth has sort of a clumsy Spiderman-in-his-first-home-made-costume air about him. (also Boba’s helmet has a beautiful heft and solidity to it in this, they make all the beskar have a Feel and weight to it, makes it feel important)
I like that Vanth is taller than Din; everything that drives home that Din’s strength doesn’t come from being naturally physically imposing or impressive is a joy to me
- Boba’s armour seems to be confirmed to be real beskar, which gives me so much hope that they’re doing something actually nuanced and interesting with Boba and Jango’s cultural identities as Mandalorians (whether they do consider themselves that or not, for example), unlike George Lucas’ inexplicable yet unbending stance of ‘They aren’t and never were lol get fucked Fetts’
the way the triumphant heroic part of the mando music sputtered and died when the man himself showed up tho... uh-oh this might be bad news
Tumblr media
man but that’s a stunning and surprising way to introduce a well-known character divorced from what makes them so iconic, though, just from that I’m going to trust they know what they’re doing (AND they got temuera morrison back I’m so EXCITED!!!). without the armor there’s the face of someone who shared that face with literal millions and at the same time must be looking older than his father ever got to at this point, and that’s super interesting as a starting point to me. (I... guess there’s still a chance it’s a fakeout and that it’s actually another clone, but that would be such a letdown when they’ve already given us this haha)
Tumblr media
- an excellent [mando sighs] moment
this opening scene did a great job of re-summarizing him for the audience -- establishing again that he gives you one chance at dealing with him fairly and if you insist on continuing to be an asshole about it, you’re toast, the fact that his fighting style is so much about being able to tank blows rather than not getting hit in the first place, the horror movie monster mando setup as he stalked the dude down and strung him up, the Poetic Justice predicated on some very careful word choices, and most importantly “where I go, he goes”... all wonderful, I’m sure I’ll watch this scene back for fine details and better looks at the background characters many many times
(word seems to have spread about him and the baby for real now, which makes me VERY nervous btw)
- Pulserifle’s back! Jetpack’s back! Razor Crest’s back! Grappling line’s back! PELLI’S BACK!!!!!! Tattooine... is also back *Finn voice* Why does everyone want to go back to Tattooine????
I really enjoyed the way they fleshed out and (for lack of a better word) humanized the sand people, though, if you are going back to this desert hellplanet again that is a worthy reason to do it
- Din swearing :O!! and one of the less egregious star wars swears too, I’m fine with this
- in campaign star wars news: I guess there was sort of both a binbon and a jubna in this ep! what a time to be alive
- as usual I love the jawa. a bright spot in any day, just a bunch of lil goblin-y friends hanging out having the best time loving sparkly crystals and rescuing silver foxes.
Tumblr media
get in loser we’re going shopping
-
Tumblr media
I uh. Do you think. Hm. Is there maybe a metaphor here somewhere. Is there perhaps a hidden, one may say double, meaning, at play, right here, in this image? Who can say, it’s just niggling at me (there’s a very similar set of shots with Toro in season 1, but seemingly the show went ‘I fear we might have gone too subtle with it, let’s amp it up this time’ over the season break loool)
honestly though this dynamic really highlighted everything I love about the ways Din performs masculinity. It’s so much softer and more community/collaboration focused and more comfortable to be around than Vanth’s version -- and Vanth isn’t a bad dude by any stretch of the imagination, it’s not hard to see why he’s like that considering where he’s from, he’s just such a... man. The lone person who can protect this village! The only man who’s got what it takes! It’s all on his shoulders and no one else’s, so do exactly as he says or he’ll put a hole in you! (I think it’s telling that one of his first comments to Din is ‘I’m sure you call the shots wherever you’re from, but ‘round here, I’m the person who tell folks what to do’, because as we as the audience knows, Din very much does not call the shots of where he’s from lol) I guess it says some nice things about the tribe of Mandos Din is from that this is how he approaches things, and it says some good things about Vanth how quickly he comes around to this smarter and less confrontational/domineering style of doing things once he’s been exposed to it and sees how it works. it’s just neat
(it’s smart of Favreau to set his ~*lone gunslinger*~ character up like this, too, it makes him so much more interesting and versatile)
- With the way Din says ‘a Mandalorian Armorer sent me on my path’ it does seem confirmed that’s the equivalent of a priest role or a sort of shaman -- I wonder if he knows the name of ‘The’ Armorer or if they take on the role as a whole identity
- the sheer contrast between the two people who wanted Din to take his helmet off for them in this ep tho... wants Mando’s armour off for horrible awful reasons and got exactly what he deserved:
Tumblr media
wants Mando’s armour off for entirely sympathetic and understandable, just culturally uninformed, thirsty thirsty reasons & also having drinks together:
Tumblr media
(the sort of... little lick over his bottom lip he does there? keep it in your pants vanth my GODjflsadf he’s a good dude tho he understands and respects the ‘no armour removal before marriage’ thing and backs down gracefully)
- This is a nuanced thing: I don’t think I actually ship it (not in a requited way from Din’s side, anyway, Vanth I’m 100% sure about lol), but the incredible potential for out-of-context-taking of “Take it off, or I will”/”...we doin’ this in front of the kid?” is uh astounding
(anyone got the vibe Vanth sort of had something with the bartender too? no just me? well well)
- I was never really scared Din was actually dead or hurt b/c baby wasn’t scared and I figure he’d know lol, a very useful fear barometer
- “What’s the plan?” “Take care of the child” “What are you gonna do?” “I don’t know, but wish me luck *yeets his new bro out of harm’s way before diving in head first himself*” fksdjhfkjlashdfkjsldahfkasldjhfskldajhfsadkjfh WHAT a summation of Din’s entire approach to battle & life, dad please you carry a not insignificant part of my heart around with you be careful
(Also with the heavy implication that Boba was watching the whole thing... can you imagine him just looking on as Din throws himself down that gullet like a madman. There must have been some ‘o_-7 *headscratch headscratch* ???’ going on for him there)
it’s kind of sweet that din trusts vanth will take care of the baby if something happens though, they really bonded quickly huh
- the sand people who kept willingly going over to the krayt dragon’s cave are honestly braver and more admirable than anyone else has ever been, I kept just shouting in anguish as they were gobbled up, they deserved better
- can we talk about how clear it still is that Din’s just... lonely. When he thinks he’s found another Mando and he sounds almost reverent with relief... and then it gets odder and odder (’uh... drinks? I guess... does he have drinking straws with him or -- HE’S TAKING THE HELMET OFF???’ oh buddy)
I wonder if they’re building towards something about him realizing it doesn’t have to be Mandos for him to trust and bond with people longer term? Basically all the characters he’s met and we’ve watched him form attachments to and get help from are non-Mandos -- Kuiil :’^(, Cara, Omera, Cobb Vanth, IG-11 :^’’(, Greef Karga to a degree. Establishing so firmly what he’s looking for this early would be good setup for a ‘what a character thinks they want vs. what they need’ thing later on just on a writing level, anyway, Boba Fett could bring in some interesting points of view about Mandalorianness too
- baby’s happy gurgles when he sees pelli!!!!!! din speaking sand people language and petting alligator doggies!!!!!!
- pedro pascal’s voice work remains an utter joy to me. din’s measured, earnest, occasionally slightly stilted way of talking is still so good, and then he does things like inserting some more... idk life is the wrong word but that more charged and dynamic tone he took on when he said (”I thought you weren’t a gambler”) “I’m not”. *chef kiss*
- if the pulse rifle’s stun is able to do that to a fuckn krayt dragon... that’s some serious shit din is carrying around with him lol (interestingly the actual shooty pew-pew part of it didn’t seem to do much to it, but then I guess he was shocking it from the inside out and not through thick hide, so idk)
- my only real complaints about this ep: Vanth’s backstory ran a bit long, and not enough baby & dad interaction. the concept art’s got me tho:
Tumblr media
(din often wears his original/old armour in concept art still, incidentally, don’t know what that’s about)
Tumblr media
awwwwwww
+ omfg ;______;
Tumblr media
- this sand people person conscientiously brushing a bantha’s teeth... blessed
Tumblr media
- Customary flame thrower report: there was a rare useful deployment of the flamethrower. Good job Mando’s flame thrower for furthering the field of diplomacy
ETA: I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO MENTION THIS: DIN BEING COMFORTABLE(ISH) AROUND DROIDS NOW!!!! GROWTH????!?! IG-11 WE MISS YOU??????????

Part Six
There was something about a battle scene – the potential for carnage and mayhem – that could draw out the bloodthirstiness in a man, even if it was a make believe one.
That particular thought crossed Bill Burr’s mind as he watched crew members bustling with excitement as they set up the MBS Media Campus backlot for the filming of the climactic confrontation between Mando and his comrades against Moff Gideon and his Stormtroopers on Nevarro.
Tumblr media
After what he could only dub as the “Ceremonial Turnover of the 501st Legion” by Deb Chow to Taika Waititi, Bill gaped with some trepidation as a seemingly demented Taika jumped about and cackled in glee, “I’ve got my own Stormtroopers! Oooh, so many things I can do with them!” Noticing the comedian standing near one of the small buildings, Taika waved to him. “Hey, Bill! Nice to see ya! Care to join my band of merry Stormtroopers?”

“Uh, I don’t think so,” Bill called back. “I just got done with a meeting with Rick about our episode. I’ll be getting my share of action soon, I guess. But thanks for asking, by the way.”
“Your loss, my friend,” Taika exclaimed as he hurried off to direct the men and women of the 501st Legion, who judging from their delighted faces never imagined that they’d actually be on set filming a Star Wars show.
The only person who didn’t seem too happy about the goings-on was the helmeted figure sitting in the cool shadows of a narrow alley. For some reason, Bill found himself gravitating toward that lonely figure.
“Hi, there! I’m Bill,” he introduced himself, reaching out his hand. “You must be Pedro.”
Pedro removed his helmet then, revealing the most expressive brown eyes that Bill had ever seen in his life. Judging from the glimmer in those doe-like orbs, he must’ve been thinking of something sad. Nevertheless, Pedro gave the comedian a nice smile and greeted, “Hi! It’s a pleasure to meet you. You’ll be playing Migs Mayfeld, right? How do you feel about being in a Star Wars TV show?” He asked the last with a teasing tone in his voice.
“Frankly, I don’t know what I’m doing here,” Bill declared, a bit embarrassed. “I must be nuts to let Jon rope me into this.”
“Don’t worry. It’ll be fun. It’s just too bad that I won’t be around to do your episode with you. I’ll be going back to England to finish shooting Wonder Woman 1984. Then again, you’re pretty lucky because you won’t get to work with….”
Pedro’s voice trailed off then.
Feeling left hanging, Bill gently coaxed, “Work with who?”
In answer to his question, puppeteer Jason Matthews approached Jon. “I already fixed the puppet as you have suggested. But Mr. Herzog won’t give him to me. He told me to tell you that you should send someone to inform him when you’re ready to start shooting.”
“Unbelievable!” Jon groaned. “How can we set up and rehearse when he’s keeping the Child in custody? Never mind. Tell Taika that we’ll focus on filming the skirmish for today. Depending upon how the action goes, we can figure out how we can CGI in IG-11 and the baby.”
Hearing that exchange, Bill turned to Pedro. “Herzog? They’re not talking about Werner Herzog, are they?”
“They are. Herzog’s playing the Client. He actually finished all of his scenes but he’s still hanging around the set because he developed this crazy fixation over the Child.”
“Having not seen the Child in question, I’d like to know if he’s really so cute that he has tamed a guy like Herzog.”
“Oh, he’s not just cute,” Pedro said with undisguised fondness. “There’s something magical about him. You’d understand once you see him.” He then sighed. “It’s just too sad that I didn’t get enough time with the baby off-screen. Werner just won’t let the kid out of his sight and, for some reason, he doesn’t like me.”
Bill straightened up with arms akimbo. His Boston accent grew thicker on his tongue as he declared in outrage, “That ain’t right! That baby should be with you, not him! He’s playing the bad guy!”
“You should try telling him that. A lot of people have tried talking to him, but he’s just too pigheaded.”
Bill snorted in strong disapproval. “Hmph! Looks like the time for talking is done. What we need is action.”
“Bill, it’s okay. I’ve already accepted it. After all, there is going to be a Season 2. I didn’t make any commitments, so I’ll get to spend more time with the Child then.”
“It still ain’t right that you’re not bonding with the kid as you should.” Bill made his decision in an instant. “That’s it! I’m goin’!”
“Going where?” Pedro asked in growing alarm.
“Where else? I’m gonna get back the kid.”
* * * * * * * * * *
“Now, just sit there, little one, while I get some milk and cookies for you. Maybe a pair of headphones so you won’t get startled by all the explosions.”
As Werner went into the kitchen, the head of a sneaky figure slowly rose to peek through the trailer window.
Bill saw the Child at once, sitting at the small dining table. “What the fuck? Is that Baby Yoda?”
At his muffled exclamation, Grogu slowly turned to him. The Child gave him a broad grin and waved his little hand.
“Aww! Ain’t ya a cutie!” It never even occurred to the comedian to ponder why the puppet moved by itself.
Carefully, Bill pushed the trailer door open and tiptoed inside. Picking up the baby, he whispered, “Come on, kid! I’m bringing you back to your Daddy.”
In reply, Grogu made happy cooing noises.
“You like that, huh? Let’s go now.”
“Who are you?”
Bill felt his blood run icy cold at that angry voice. His head slowly moving to the left, he found himself gaping at Werner, now red in the face and carrying a glass of milk and a plate full of cookies.
“I…uh…” the comedian stammered, unsure of what to say. In the end, both he and the Child raised a hand and waved to the German filmmaker. “Bye!”
Bill darted out of the trailer before Werner could stop him. As he dashed off, he heard the German director shout, “Baby snatcher! Somebody stop him!”
Bill thought he was going to get away with the baby. Surely, an old man like Werner Herzog wouldn’t run after him. However, as he turned at the corner and onto the street leading to the backlot, he saw Werner giving chase. To make matters worse, he saw the old man grab an enormous gaffi stick from one of the props men.
“Give that baby back or I’ll kill you!”
“OH SHIT!!!” Bill exclaimed, realizing that his very life was now in jeopardy.
Unknown to the comedian, as he rushed into the backlot, the shooting of the Nevarro skirmish scene had already commenced. There was a loud pop as a Stormtrooper shot a blaster right at him.
“Hey!” he yelled, cradling the Child protectively. “I gotta kid here!”
Rather than calling “Cut!”, from his director’s chair, Taika called out, “Hey, Bill! Fire back, man! You’re being attacked by my Stormtroopers!”
“WHAT?”
Taika made shooting gestures with both hands. “Pew pew!”
Rolling his eyes, Bill did as he was told, running straight down the center of the backlot while “Pew pew-ing” every extra that got into his path. At one point, there was an explosion at his left, so that he dodged to the side. Werner was relentless though. He followed the comedian in small, but swift strides, waving the gaffi stick menacingly in the air. Through it all, the Child crooked under Bill’s arm laughed and squealed.
At that moment, Pedro took his cue to step outside of the building to confront Moff Gideon’s troops. Great was his shock when he saw Bill hurrying toward him, baby in tow, and with a rampaging German director behind him.
Bill even raised the baby high up in the air and cried, “I got the kid!”
In his fright to get away from Werner, Bill didn’t notice the large rock sticking out of the dirt.  Suddenly,  he tripped on the rock and the Child flew out of his hands. Grogu spread out his little arms and screamed, “Wheeeeeeee!”
Gasping, Pedro leaped up high, his arms stretched out in front of him. That sudden movement caused the helmet to slip from his head. As his body started to fall, he caught the Child easily and hugged him protectively as they hit the ground.
“Are you okay, Grogu?” Pedro asked the Child worriedly, but the baby only laughed and flapped his arms like a bird, indicating that he wanted more.
Bill stared at Pedro and Grogu. Dazed as he was, he couldn’t help blurting out, “You two really look like father and son. You have the same pretty brown eyes and…”
Whatever else he was going to say, the comedian never got to finish because a dark shadow loomed over him.
“Evil baby snatcher!” A breathless but visibly tear-filled Werner rapped him on the head with the stick.
“Owwww!” Bill grabbed his head, feeling the growing lump.
Seeing Pedro staring at him, it was Werner’s turn to be flustered. There was no mistaking the tears that fell from his eyes as he stammered, “I’m sorry. I left the Child for just a minute to get snacks for him, but…this baby snatcher…”
Pedro nodded. As Bill looked on, he gaped as the actor entrusted the baby back to the crying director. “Please keep an eye on him, Werner. Okay?”
Werner hugged the struggling baby in his arms. “I will. I promise I will. And I’m so sorry.”
To the German filmmaker’s shock, Grogu pushed his face when Werner tried to kiss him. Whirling toward Pedro, Grogu reached out to him with his little arms, making desperate whining noises.
At that very moment, Werner’s face turned pale when he saw the group of puppeteers who had joined the onlookers. This time, all the puppeteers were present and accounted for, having come out of the small building where the scene with the puppet was to be filmed. None of them had their controls. And, yet, the baby was wriggling and crying in his embrace.
By then, Pedro had already put the helmet back on. Walking toward the struggling Child, he caressed Grogu’s little head.
“Go with your grandpa, Grogu,” Pedro whispered. “It’ll only be for a little while. We’ll be back together to film a scene before you know it.” Raising his helmet a bit, he kissed Grogu in the spot between his eyes. Werner saw the teardrop hanging from Pedro’s jaw.
“Thank you, Pedro,” Werner could only stammer. “I’ll bring him back once you’re ready to shoot.” He then walked off with a crying Grogu in his arms, heading back for his trailer.
As Pedro helped him to his feet, Bill demanded, “Why did you do that for? I thought you wanted the kid?”
“I did, but…seeing how he chased you...” Pedro then confessed, “…I never realized how much Werner cared for the baby. It isn’t right to take the Child away from him like that.”
At that moment, a very happy Taika called out to him, “Great work, Bill! You got the action sequence I wanted for IG-11 just right. All I have to do is edit you out and I can CGI in the robot with the kid.”
Meanwhile, the members of the 501st Legion were all abuzz at seeing the Child for the first time. An exasperated Jon had the unit directors hand out an additional page of the non-disclosure agreement for them to sign.
When one lady in Stormtrooper armor gushed out, “Oh my God! I just saw a Baby Yoda! I can’t wait to tell my kids!”, Jon ordered Kim Richards, “Have her sign TWO NDAs!”
Hearing Jon’s order, Bill and Pedro laughed. When their laughter subsided, the comedian smiled warmly. “You’re a real nice guy, Pedro. I just hope I could get to work with you and the kid someday, although it doesn’t seem likely after this.”
“Who knows?” Pedro said reassuringly. “Maybe we will still have a need for a sharpshooter like Mayfeld in Season 2.”
“Maybe…” Bill trained his gaze toward Jon who was gathering signed papers. “Hey, Jon! If ever you want me back to work for ya, make sure this guy,” he then pointed to Pedro, “doesn’t have a helmet on.” Grinning at his fellow actor, he said, “I’m gonna call him ‘Brown Eyes’.”
Tumblr media
Pedro’s lips curled up in a wry pout. “Next time, please don’t drop the baby!”
Bill crossed his heart and raised his right hand while cupping the lump on his head with his left. “I swear that I will never drop the baby ever again!”
TO BE CONCLUDED

Leaving A Mark

Javier Peña x Reader
Words: 3688
Summary: When Javi’s contacts with Los Pepes cross the line, he goes behind their backs to help Fernando Duque escape. Los Pepes decide to look for information elsewhere: you.
Notes: So this is based on episode seven of season two. I’ve become totally addicted to this show and I’m super excited to possibly write some Mandalorian imagines as well because I love Pedro Pascal. P.S. I’m only basing this off of the fictionalizations in Narcos, so if something is incorrect, I’m sorry!
Warnings: Violence, language, and assault. (If you’ve seen Narcos, you know)
-
The morning air was sticky and hot, making the sheets stick to your bare skin. The light was too bright for your tired eyes so you turned over to look at a far more welcoming sight. Javi never slept, but last night he’d let himself rest for the first time in weeks. You placed a soft kiss on his shoulder, his skin hot against your lips, and crawled out of bed as gently as possible. Before locating your shirt, you stood in front of the small mirror in your bathroom, placing your hands on your stomach. It was still pretty flat, but it wouldn’t be for long.
It’d been about a month since you found out. Even without the Escobar terror, you wouldn’t know how to tell Javi. He was a fast man who liked fast women. You only started seeing each other after you helped him cast a group of sicarios when they robbed the cafe you worked at. You were an informant and you were surprised he’d stuck around this long. As soon as he found out about the baby, he’d be gone.
You jumped, feeling hands trail around your waist before settling on your hips. Javi muttered a ‘good morning’, his face mostly buried in the soft curls of your hair. You quickly dropped your hands and turned around to face him, his arms wrapping around you tighter as you moved.
“I have to go.” He sighed, forehead resting against yours.
“I know.” You’d been with him long enough to know the drill. You rarely saw him, and when you did, it was only for the night. You knew what you were for him and what you would never be. But if you could be his escape for even a few moments, it was worth it. After all, he was your escape too. He was all you had left to cling to in this country.
You knew first hand what Escobar’s empire had done to the families in Columbia. You had been at school in the States when your two younger sisters joined his group of traffickers. They helped him smuggle his cocaine into the states by swallowing small pouches. Until Mariana, the youngest, turned up in a Miami hospital morgue, three pouches having burst in her stomach. Your other sister, Zoe, tried to tell the police the truth about what happened to Mariana and wound up stuffed in the back of an abandoned car, two bullets in her head.
After that, you moved back to Columbia to take care of your father, a police officer who mainly busted kids vandalizing properties. He died in one of Escobar’s attacks about a year after you came home. Now you were alone and since whatever you had with Javi was all you had, you stuck with it. And when he found out, you’d lose him too. Luckily, you’d found a doctor who would keep your secret. You were meeting with her later that morning for a health check.
While you found your work uniform, Javier gathered his things and gave you a quick peck on the cheek before rushing out the door. As soon as he was gone, you released the breath you felt like you’d been holding since he woke up. Keeping secrets from a fucking DEA agent was exhausting. After eating a breakfast that you knew you wouldn’t keep down, you grabbed your keys and headed for the clinic.
The doctor’s name was Rosa and she was married to the man who owned the cafe and she was more than willing to help you throughout the pregnancy. You’d gone a few times already, getting regular checks to make sure that both you and the baby were healthy. Despite the trouble the baby was causing you, you couldn’t afford another loss.
“Everything looks good.” Rosa grinned, though there was something off about her smile.
“No changes?”
“Nope. You and the little guy are both in excellent health.” Her movements were hurried as she put away her equipment.
“Do you have someone else coming in?” You wondered. “Because I can-”
“Yeah, actually!” She exclaimed, but she said it as if you’d given her a great idea. “I didn’t want to rush you, but we’re all done here, so I’ll see you in a couple weeks.” Rosa walked you to the door of the clinic and her suspicious grin faded into a somber frown. She looked scared.
“What’s going-”
“I’m sorry, Y/N. I really am.” She put a hand on your shoulder, eyes shooting towards a car parked down the street. “They were gonna go after my kids.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” You yanked away, following her gaze as three men exited the vehicle.
“Just do what they tell you and they won’t hurt you.” She locked the glass door, her eyes filled with guilt as she backed away, disappearing into the building. You turned back to the men heading towards you, they’re expressions dark and determined. You turned on your heel, sprinting down the sidewalk, finding every corner to turn until you weren’t even sure where you were. Your sandals offered little traction, rubbing blisters into your feet. You really thought that you’d lost them. You turned one more corner and straight into the chest of Los Pepes leader- Fidel Castano. You recognized his face from the photos in Javi’s files- you’d snuck a few glimpses when you were helping him catch Escobar’s sicarios. He grabbed your arms with a crushing grip.
“Get your fucking hands off me!” You shrieked, trying to kick at his legs, not that it was any use. His hand found your throat and squeezed, silencing your screams.
“We just want to talk.” His coy smile made your stomach churn. “You’re going to help us find someone.”
“I don’t know anything.” You gasped out, the words clawing their way up your throat like blades. “I swear, I don’t know anything.”
“Peña’s puta.” He chuckled darkly. The metallic scrape of a switchblade rang through the alley and you felt the ice-cold blade graze your stomach. “And his little mongrel.” Your feet desperately scraped against the pavement, trying to get away. “We know about the kid, Y/N.” He leaned in so his lips were next to your ear, his stinking hot breath burning your cheek. “And we know how to cut it out of you.” With his foul words, his fingers closed your windpipe completely, lifting your feet off of the ground, leaving your legs flailing for something to support you. The more you struggled, the more the knife scraped the skin of your stomach, beginning to draw blood.
“Please.” You mouthed, completely unable to speak.
“She’s no good to us dead.” One of the other men interjected. He dropped you just before your vision got dark. You were a coughing and sputtering mess on the pavement, curling up against the wall of the building to put as much distance between you and them as possible. Castano knelt down in front of you, lifting your chin with the end of his knife.
“You’re going to lead us to Fernando Duque. Or Agent Pena won’t be able to tell your insides from your outsides when they find you.”
-
Javi didn’t notice you at first as he made his way towards his car. You were pacing in the parking lot, your hands fidgeting with the hem of your shirt. You looked scared, no, terrified. Seeing your expression, Javier walked faster. You turned and saw his worried face and threw your arms around him, real tears streaming down your face even though the words from your lips were fabricated.
“They came after me.” You balled, holding up the wadded, bloody cloth that Castano had given you. Javi unfolded the fabric slowly.
“Fuck.” He muttered, quickly wrapping the human finger back up.
“It’s Alfonzo’s.” This was actually true. In order to get to Rosa, they’d been keeping her husband, your boss, captive only god knows where. Castano told you to say that you found it at the cafe with a note with your name and address on it.
“Escobar’s pigs are coming back, Javi.” You clung to his jacket, playing up the dramatics as much as possible. You had to make sure that he took you with him. To save the baby that he didn’t even know about. “I know you’re working, but I didn’t know where else to go.” You started to hyperventilate, so Javi set the cloth on the hood of his car and wrapped protective arms around you.
“I’ve got you, it’s okay.” You were trembling in his embrace so he rubbed soothing circles into your back to try and calm you down. Your fear was genuine. The threat was so much greater than a couple of sicarios looking for revenge. He pushed back gently, holding your face in his hands and wiping away your tears. “I’m going to take you home, okay? I’ll be able to protect you from there.” You shook your head frantically. You had to go with him.
“No, Javi, they know where I live, they know where I work, hell, they could know I’m here right now.” You looked around, knowing that Los Pepes were off somewhere waiting for your call. Eyes settling back on his face, you tried not to let the guilt show. “I only feel safe with you.”
Javi knew that he was supposed to check in with Duque, but he also couldn’t leave you like this. In the heat of the moment, he didn’t know what else to do.
“Alright, come with me and we’ll figure this out.” He ushered you to the passenger side of the car, opening the door for you. He gave you a stern look. “Do not get out of the car. No matter what.” You nodded and buckled up.
You wanted to tell him. You wanted to scream at him to turn around. As soon as you knew where Duque was, you’d have to tell Los Pepes and you knew what would happen to him. His blood will be on your hands for the rest of your life.
“We know that Peña is hiding him.” Castano had said. “And we have a different source that told us he was leaving today. You find him, you call us. It’s that simple if you ever want to see Peña’s bastard child born.”
So you didn’t say a word. You watched out the window, trying not to notice his worried gaze dart to you every once in a while. The whole drive you tried to figure out what came next. He would figure it out. Maybe he’d arrest you. Maybe he should.
Javi pulled up to a motel and paused before he went inside.
“I’m going to go inside just for a few minutes, okay?” He held your hand tightly in his. “You have to stay in the car. You were never here.” You nodded in understanding and held his hand a little too long as he got out of the car.
“Javi…” You might as well say it. “I love you.” He looked taken back. He leaned across the driver seat and placed a soft, but passionate kiss on your lips.
“I will be right back.”
The car door closed and your heart started to pound. With a shaking hand, you pulled out the phone that Castano gave you and called the number.
“I’m here.” You said quietly. “I don’t think I can do this.”
“Don’t back out on us now, pequeña perra.” He spat. “Or my brother va a joder until you bleed.” You took a deep breath and told him the address. “Gracias por su cooperación.”
As soon as the phone went dead, you threw it out of the car window, listening to the pieces shatter on the pavement. Even without it, you could still hear his sick, sick voice. Now you just head to learn how to live with what you’d done.
-
You’d calmed down enough for Javi to take you back to your apartment and get back to work. More than anything, he was worried about you, but he was also beyond pissed. He just wanted to nail these bastards more than ever. He’d never seen you scared of anything before, even when you were helping him catch the pricks attacking the cafe. When he took you home, you just seemed numb. Like all the fight had left you.
You felt like you’d sold your soul. That you were now just a cowering husk of a person, waiting for Los Pepes to come back and cut the loose end. Soon enough, the pounding on your door made you jump out of your skin.
“Open up.” Castano’s voice boomed from the hall.
“I already did what you want.” You shouted through the wood, but your voice gave away your fear.
“I just want to talk about our… agreement.” You knew he’d break it down if you didn’t open it, so slowly, you turned the knob. He barged in before you could say a word and you stayed close to the wall, as far away from him as possible.
“What do you want?” You kept your head high and he chuckled.
“I brought you a gift from Judy Moncada.” He tossed a small box onto the counter of your kitchen. He smirked. “Aren’t you going to offer me a drink?” You shuffled your feet against the tile and grabbed him a glass. “Maybe Peña knows what he’s doing, eh?” You felt his rough hand begin to roam underneath the hem of your shirt and you jerked away.
“Don’t you touch me.” You hissed, nearly throwing the glass of water in his face. He took the cup with a wicked smile. The phone started to ring, but you stayed rooted in place, not wanting to take your eyes off him.
“Are you going to answer that, or should I?”
Watching him carefully, you moved across the room and picked up the phone.
“Hello?”
“Y/N, baby, it’s me.” Javi sighed heavily, sitting across from Murphy at his desk. “I don’t know if I’m going to be able to come over tonight.”
“Oh,” You’d almost forgotten that part of your lie. You made him believe you were scared enough that you wanted him to stay with you until the threat was gone. Now, you couldn’t want him farther away. “I’ve had some time to calm down and I realized that I need to let you do your job.” Javi was kind of surprised. A few hours ago, you were begging to not leave his side and now you were telling him to stay away?
“Are you sure, because I could just pile this paperwork shit on Murphy-”
“You better fucking not.” Javi dodged the pen that Murphy launched at him from his desk.
“Really, Javi, it’s okay. I was overreacting earlier.” You kept your eyes locked on Castano, and he kept his roaming gaze on your legs. You shuttered. “I’ll see you in the morning, okay?”
“Is everything okay?” Javi whispered, turning away from Murphy, but Steve could still hear the worry in his partner’s voice. “This stuff about the sicarios isn’t adding up and you’re kinda scaring me here.”
“I’m just tired of these guys running the town. But letting you catch them is more important than using you as a guard dog.”
Javi ran a hand down his face, his mind spinning. “Okay. But if you think anything is off, you call me, alright?”
“I will. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Without another word, you hung up, earning a grin from Castano.
“Don’t give me that look,” He scolded. “He got himself into this mess.”
“Get out.” You demanded, opening the door for him. “You’ve done your job now, please, leave me alone.”
“You’re a part of this now, puta.” Castano growled, pausing in the doorway. “You’re one of us.” As soon as his smug face was out of your site, you slammed the door. You stared at the package on your counter like it would explode any second. Like ripping off a bandaid, you took off the top and looked inside. On top, a small baby rattle mocked you with baby pink and blue hues. You threw the rattle across the room, hearing the plastic shatter against the wall as you buried your head in the sink. It wasn’t morning sickness. It was the bile rising from the twist in your gut, painfully squeezing and retching with guilt. Underneath the rattle was a photograph of Duque’s mangled and bloody body stuffed into his car trunk… along with his son.
-
Javi had seen a lot of shit, but looking down at the body of Duque’s fourteen-year-old son made him sick to his stomach. He just wanted to forget that the day ever happened as he drove to your apartment. While you started out as a distraction, just someone to fuck around with every now and then, Javi had developed feelings for you that he hadn’t felt since Loraine. And after what you said yesterday, his brain and his heart battled more than ever. He strangely just wanted to talk to you, something he usually did after a few hours of distraction. He wasn’t expecting to find your apartment a total mess.
“Y/N?” At first, he panicked. They’d found you. He took out his pistol cautiously, looking around for any sign that someone was still there. It wasn’t until he looked in the ashtray that he finally understood what was going on. Everything clicked. And the rage that he felt was fueled by the hurt and betrayal shooting through his head. He grabbed the half-burned photo and searched the apartment until he found you sitting on your bed, staring at the wall. “The fuck is this!” He screamed, roughly lifting you up by the arm and shoving the picture in your face.
“Javi-”
“How long have you been helping them, Y/N? How fucking long!” The emptiness in your eyes made him even angrier. “Did they offer you money? Huh?” A string of Spanish curses left his lips and he shoved away from you, grabbing a cigarette from his jacket pocket. “Is that what the whole ‘Javi, I love you’ bullshit was about? Just trying to drive the nail in?”
“They didn’t give me a choice.” Your voice was hoarse from sobbing and your face was still red.
"You got that kid killed you fucking bitch!" He grabbed your chin, forcing you to look him in the eye. "He was fourteen and they fucking butchered him!" With your head lifted, he could see the purple handprint shape that spread across your neck. It was impossibly dark, covering almost your entire throat.
“I didn’t have a choice.” You repeated, only now, your voice was stronger.
“Did they do anything else to you?” Javi imagined the worst. Even with all of his anger, the thought of something happening to you made his blood boil.
“You think I give a shit about me?” You scoffed. “You think I would have given up that kid if they had threatened to beat me, rape me, put a fucking bullet through my head? I don’t matter to anybody.” His expression might have proved you wrong, but you kept going. “I would just have been another victim like my sisters, like my father.” You shook your head bitterly. “No, this wasn’t about me.”
“Then who was it about, Y/N?” His words were now genuine.
“They were going to kill our baby!” You finally screamed. Javi froze. His shoulders slumped forward like you’d punched him in the gut. After a long silence that wouldn’t seem to end, he stood up straight and shook his head.
“No.” Without another word, he closed the bedroom door behind him.
It was his fault. They came after you because of him. He got involved with Los Pepes in the first place and now he was trying to blame you instead of look at himself. He wanted to scream. He wanted to put his fist into the nearest wall he could find. He almost did both. Instead, he took a deep breath and walked back into the bedroom.
He found you standing in front of the mirror, shirt lifted slightly so you could examine the cuts scattered across your belly. They were shallow, but there was a chance they would scar. You didn’t notice him walk up behind you until he slipped his hand underneath yours, fingers splayed out against your stomach, gently grazing the scrapes. In the reflection, you looked up into his eyes.
“You matter to me.” His lips lightly kissed your shoulder and he slowly turned you around so that his chest pressed against yours. “I’m sorry. All of this happened because of me and I tried to blame it on you-”
“I got that boy killed, Javi.” You cried. “Now there’s a mother out there without her child because I sacrificed them for mine.”
“For ours.” Slowly, he moved his hand from your stomach to your cheek and closed the little space between you. This kiss was different. It wasn’t lusting or assertive. It was slow and soft and spoke more than Javi ever could. When you finally pulled away from each other, he faced one of his greatest fears, second only to losing you- loving you. “We’ll get through this, mi alma. Te amo.” He pulled you in for another kiss, his lips then traveling down your neck and stopping at your stomach so he now knelt in front of you.
As he looked up, you could see that he was scared. That part of him wanted to run for the hills and never look back. He pressed one final kiss to the soft skin of your stomach.
“I love you, Y/N.” He was going to be better. For you and for the kid. He didn’t know how, but he would do it. He would do whatever it took. For you, the beautiful, incredible woman in his arms and the life that was now in you, he would be a better man.

Mandalorian: Removing his Helmet (Part One)
In episode four, we get a little more background on the Mando and the new tradition of Mandalorians never removing their helmets. We are first introduced to this idea when Heavy Infantry tries to remove Mando’s in episode three.
Tumblr media
We learn that the helmet is tied to their identity as a Mandalorian. Mando further explains that if he ever removes his helmet in front of another then he won’t be able to put it back on. So what it means to be Mandalorian is tied up in their helmet and wearing their helmet.
We also get a little more of a background into Mando’s own experience as a Mandalorian especially with this tradition of never removing your helmet:
Omera: “How long has it been since you’ve taken that off?”
Mando: “Yesterday.”
Omera: “I mean, in front of someone else.”
Mando: “I wasn’t much older than they are.” [points to a group of children]
Omera: “You haven’t shown your face to anyone else since you were a kid?”
Mando: “No. I was...happy that they took me in. My parents were killed and the Mandalorians took care of me.”
First, while I love Mando’s sass (he didn’t need to say “yesterday”; he knew what she was trying to say--this could also be seen as trying to avoid the topic though too), it’s important to know that the Mandalorians can take their helmets off. It’s only a matter of taking it off when alone to maintain the secrecy. This has an interesting effect as it allows others to only see them as Mandalorians. Even those you are close will see the Mandalorians only as Mandalorians. Whoever they are under the helmet basically doesn’t exist. Their only identity is that of a Mandalorian. This could also be why none of the Mandalorians use names and why the watchers don’t get any names for the Mandalorians. It makes me curious if we will ever get Mando’s name within the show.
(Considering that Pedro Pascal did say that his name is Dyn Jarren makes me think that they might. Otherwise, why come up with a name with Mando at all? It makes me wonder if we will get Mando revealing his name or if it will come in a flashback, said by his parents. If it is the latter, then that will still mean Mando’s identity is only as a Mandalorian. If Mando doesn’t use his name as an adult, he is only the Mandalorian and not Dyn Jarren. Because others can only see him as a Mandalorian, it could be argued that he can only see himself as a Mandalorian, not as Dyn Jarren.)
Second, when Mando does remove his helmet to eat (and the watcher doesn’t get to see his face, creating the sole identity of him as Mandalorian for the watcher as well), he does so in front of a window and looks out.
Tumblr media
I’ve seen a couple of post about how this is sweet because he is looking at Baby Yoda without his helmet on or it shows how much he is willing to risk for Omera (watching her even if she looks back and sees him without his helmet), but I took it another way mainly due to the dialogue from the previous scene. I think Mando is looking at children playing, living the life he never had, and the community he can never be a part of.
Mando looks out at the children he just compared himself to, the children he could never be like. Unlike them who can run around and play, basically just being kids, he put on the helmet when the Mandalorians found him and raised him as a Mandalorian. In this way, he was denied a normal childhood. And I think he realizes this too.
“No. I was...happy that they took me in.” I added the ellipses here to show how Mando pauses before saying he was “happy” that the Mandalorians took him in. This made me question if he really was happy that they took him in, that they made him a Mandalorian. I doubt he was presented with much of a choice either. If the Mandalorians took him in, he would have to adhere to their way of life and follow the Way of the Mandalore. The fact that it was the “Mandalorians” (plural, not singular) who took him in makes me think that it was the Mandalorian tribe as a whole that raised him, not a single one who acted as his parent/father (as I mentioned in further detail here) .
If we take this model of a young child being taken/found by a group of people and raised with the values/training of that group, all without a figure to act as a parent, we can see two other times this technique has been used: padawans for the Jedi and soldiers for the First Order (who based this idea of the Jedi). In both cases, the Jedi and the First Order, the children that are taken/found aren’t given any other choice but to adapt to the lifestyle that has taken them in. In both cases, these groups defy these children and how they grow up as an adult.
The same could be applied to the Mandalorians. If they found an orphan, I believe they would take the child in as a Foundling as long as the child was willing to learn the Way of the Mandalore. But, in a war zone and without parents, would a child have much of a choice? In order to survive, the child would more than likely be willing to join the Mandalorians and allow himself to be assimilated into Mandalorian culture.
This is not to say that I think that Mando is spiteful towards the Mandalorians. I believe he is grateful to them for saving him and taking care of him. I think he just realizes that he missed out on a normal life. He wasn’t able to be a child like the ones he is watching play. Moreso, because he was made into a Mandalorian, he can’t have a normal life.
Not only does he see the children when he looked out. He sees Baby Yoda playing as well as Omera crouching down to watch as she gives Winta a hug. Basically, he is getting a glimpse of the life that was denied to him and that he thinks he can never have. He never had the chance to be a child, playing freely like that. He can’t grow up with that same innocence and become a loving person like Omera who can so freely show her affection to her daughter. He can’t have a close relationship with Omera. He can’t live in this peaceful community. When he looks out, he sees the life that he never had and can’t have because of that helmet. So by taking off the helmet and looking out, he has this moment of connection between the life he sees and the one he can’t have because of his helmet. He is able to at least imagine what life could have been like if he wasn’t Mandalorian.

HISTORY.
red and his brother, esteban, were two of many that moved to the americas leading up to the height of the californian gold rush.
only a few months into their life in america, however, his brother was killed by an outlaw, and their home and all their belongings were subsequently destroyed in the incident.
with nothing to his name, and unable to testify against a white man, red made it his life’s mission to kill the son of a bitch himself.
for years, he built himself up with odd jobs to earn money: repair work, cattle wrangling, paper printing, piano playing, mining, protection detail-- whatever paid, he’d do, and he moved often to avoid a reputation.
in secret, he figured out what weapons he could use best, and went on to learn to aim perfectly with them in preparation for his blood quest.
ever the one track mind, the moment he a) had enough money; b) believed his skill was perfect; and c) tracked down the name that’d lived in his head for years, red went without hesitation to kill him.
and did it-- swift, silent, and no nonsense.
despite earning a reputation and a bounty for killing a big name outlaw and his whole company, red found that with his revenge fulfilled, all he wanted was to rest.
now he has a small coffee farm and lives away from the more populated areas. he does visit various towns to sell his coffee, though, and if any townsfolk still need him for odd jobs here and there, old habits die hard.
but it’s not like he’s nice or anything. (he figures.)
after all, the number of gunslingers he’s killed for trespassing his property in an attempt to kill him probably offsets any good deeds he’s done.
