more art from my gf DeathRay (Grumpy Bear is both our favorite)
She also made her own Care Bear Cousin- Gloomheart Bat! Specifically nocturnal, she's rarely seen by the other cousins with the exception of Brightheart who's also nocturnal.
She stands for the importance of patience, and listening to others without interrupting while they share their feelings.
overall a very weird dw season to me. i really like the middle 4 episodes, and thought the first 2 and last 2 were okay-to-bad. for only 8 episodes 50/50 isn't a bad track record but i think the season arc and character drama doesn't land so the season is less than the sum of its parts. much better than chibnall era, still not on the level of s1-10 dw and probably my least favourite rtd series. and yet i have hope!! bring on season 2 i want to see varada sethu
I've been rewatching the first two seasons of The Bear so I can watch the third season that just came out and man the character writing in this show makes me froth at the mouth it's like some of the best arcs I've ever seen in a TV series
i was in the middle of making a post about my predictions for the finale when i realised my buddie stuff could take up a whole other post so here ya go:
this is a bit of an out there theory and i don't necessarily think it will happen, but it's something i'd do if i were the writers. eddie makes a move on buck. i don't mean 'yay buddie goes canon in the last 10 mins of s7', i mean 'eddie fucks up so monumentally they don't know if they can come back from it.' i think he'll try to kiss buck and buck will push him away.
eddie's confused and lonely and heartbroken (not to mention desperate) and he turns to the one person who has unfalteringly been by his side the whole time, the guy who likes to fix things. it's not that he doesn't have genuine feelings for buck, because he really does, but he's not thinking about it AT ALL. he just wants buck (to his core) and is maybe letting himself feel that for the first time.
but it's like a slap in the face to buck. buck, who's in a happy, stable relationship for the first time in years. buck, who eddie told his bisexuality wouldn't change anything between them. buck, who's been used for his body for his entire life. he would be absolutely crushed if eddie did this. and he's matured to the point that i think he might not let it slide. he wouldn't cut eddie out of his life, but i think he'd need space and for once he might respect his own needs over his wants. especially since i don't think he's considered his feelings for eddie and definitely doesn't think eddie's acting out of love/desire
so we get to the end of s7/start of s8 and eddie has fucked up his relationships beyond belief. chris, marisol, even his parents and shannon's memory. buck is still there, because he's always there but things are different. and i think that it could be a great set up to explore who eddie really is and what he wants, especially if/when the 118 get split up. as ryan keeps saying, he'll be isolated. neither buck or eddie will tell the others what happened between them, but that doesn't mean that eddie won't finally look into his sexuality by and for himself.
when i say i want a divorce era 2.0, i don't mean screaming at each other in a grocery store bc to a certain extent that was almost funny - they were coworkers of less than 2 years and it was wildly overdramatic. now they're partners and best friends and co-parents and they've suffered blow after blow, and their kid's gone and eddie betrayed buck and they don't know how to be anymore but they love each other too much to let go
Saw a post that Tommy is Abby 2.0 & that feels SO REAL (older & more mature, introducing Buck to a different way of thinking, knows the job intimately, not quite as into him as he is into them 🫣).
I just hope Tommy leaves in a much better way, bc he gives off good vibes and I ADORE LOU.
Hate having adhd went to go work on my fallout modpack, got distracted while going to disable the steam overlay, ended up in the points shop, went to go edit my profile, decided to change my pfp, found a buried folder I forgot existed, found some old Veneer art I forgot existed, spent 45 minutes looking at all the old photos, STILL HAVE NOT TOGGLED ONE SIMPLE OPTION THAT SHOULD'VE TAKEN 30 SECONDS AT MOST
there's a buck getting his meredith drowning moment theory?!?!?!??!
I mean, I have a theory about Buck drowning in season 7 that spiraled out of control because I remembered the episode where Meredith drowns and @slowlyfoggydestiny agrees with me, I don't know if more people are in on it tbh, I mostly just typed it out here to get it out of my head. I have 2 visions of the situation, one ends in buddie, the other ends in Buck getting help. I have a thought process, I don't know how valid it is, but I think Buck needs to drown, with the way most of his trauma are tied to water or breathing, the emergency tracheotomy on the date with Abby, the blood clot in his lung, the tsunami, the well, the fire in Buck begins, the lightning and the way his lungs stop working, Buck keeps holding his breath, it seems fitting. I was against using him drowning to trigger some healing moment for him, partially because I don't think he cares about himself enough to breakdown over dying, but also because my whole thing hinges on the way they made Buck and Eddie's personal journeys parallel to each other and that would be too on the nose. But I was thinking about it and I realized I fell victim to the parallels between the shooting and the lightning and decided the lightning was the shooting for Buck, when the lightning is actually the well (the rain at night aspect, the team as an audience, the volunteering into the situation, the uncertainty for everyone involved, the eventual "i have to save myself" moment, even the breathing aspect with the way Eddie almost drowned), so he needs the shooting. And the shooting has a lot of interesting elements, it happens by chance, they weren't supposed to be there but they are because Charlie called Eddie directly, Buck has no one else he trusts there so he does the rescuing part alone, and it brings up a past trauma for Eddie with the army.
Some of Buck's biggest traumas revolve around water, the tsunami and the lightning, and getting trapped, the truck bombing. 2 + 2 equals Buck and Eddie in a situation that ends with Buck drowning. My main vision right now is: Buck gets called somewhere for an emergency, somewhere near water, a bridge, a cliff, (I go back and forth with this one but right now I'm plagued by Taylor Kelly's emergency beacon, so current version involves her activating that and Buck and Eddie going to check what happened), that being solved, them witnessing another accident after it, Buck falling into the water completely by chance, ground gave up under him type thing, him ending up pinned somewhere he could get out if he tried hard enough, and at first he tries but then he just stops, then Eddie jumps in, dramatic cpr and all its possibilities, "you're not doing this to me again", Buck coughing up water while sitting up, Eddie catching him when he drops back, "I got you, I got you", all those really fun things, that lead to Buck having to start to deal with stuff.
other posts I made about this here here and here but is pretty much me saying the same thing multiple times as the thoughts start to take more shape.
You know, the more I think about the finale (which is basically all I’ve been doing since it came out), the more I realize something.
The further and further I got in Miraculous up until this point, the deeper the sense of dread and nihilism I got. Because every time Marinette and/or Adrien made any significant step forward, they were “rewarded” with either a bad end or an undo button. Chat Blanc and Ephemeral are obvious examples, but there have been plenty of others too -- all the times Marinette ~almost~ got to confess to Adrien, their identity reveal in Oblivio, the few moments of happiness Adrien had with his father, etc. Even Kwami’s Choice (one of the very few moments of actual happy plot progression that we get) bends to this rule, because they were so relieved to be free of the Miraculous, but in the end, that freedom was doomed not to last.
It made me more and more anxious the more I watched. I got the feeling that no matter what happened, these kids might never get their happy ending. Even when the series ends (I’m assuming on a positive note, but after this finale nothing can be taken for granted) Marinette will eventually have to pass on her Guardianship, which means she’ll forget everything -- including not only Adrien, also Alya and all the rest of her loved ones that she met after learning about the Miraculous. Her memories (to my understanding) will revert back to what they were at the point just before becoming involved with the Miraculous. Which means her journey of personal growth and working through her trauma will also be reset. Either that or her entire memory is wiped. Neither option is happy. And then of course there’s Adrien, who will have to grieve their past relationship, supposing he’s still alive when she gives up the Miracle Box.
Realizing this made me think: How will they get out of this? How will they ever be okay? Are they just doomed to fail and suffer tragedy on repeat for the rest of their lives?
Yin and Yang. Creation and Destruction. Joy and Grief. They are all natural cycles -- forces that cannot be avoided. And none can exist without the other.
In season five, we got one of the greatest joys (and steps forward) that we’ve received in the entire show -- Adrienette finally becoming canon. And staying canon, despite steep odds. We also got the single greatest loss in the series to date, and that’s Gabriel succeeding in making his wish. Going out on his own terms, with the knowledge that he got what he wanted. God, it makes me sick.
At first I was shocked. Upset. Disappointed, a little bit. Because of course we all expected something different. Something involving them beating the odds, no matter what.
But this ending....it’s the natural conclusion to the Bad Vibes (TM) I’d been getting from this series for a while now. That sense of hopelessness, of inevitability....All those times I thought to myself, “How are they ever going to break this cycle? What will they be able to do differently that will allow them to win?” The answer was already in front of me. And that answer was: They can’t. Sometimes tragedy is unavoidable. Sometimes, despite all your best efforts (and an absolutely badass performance by Bug Noire) you still lose.
And hasn’t that been the whole point of the series thus far, when you think about it? Making mistakes and knowing how to fix them. The entire setup of akumatized victims is a picture of this. We all have negative emotions, and we all make mistakes. But in the end, they can be fixed, and life moves on. Maribug makes all kinds of mistakes too. Little everyday ones that get episodic focus as well as life changing events like in Risk. She obsesses over her mistakes -- tries so hard to be perfect -- but no matter what she will continue to mess up, and do her best to make it better.
She’s made a massive mistake this time by choosing to extend an olive branch to Gabriel. The world is forever altered, and it’s unclear if anything can be done to fix it. But just like always, she will do everything in her power to make things right. It’s the natural evolution of a story with this theme, to, after rectifying so many errors, finally come to one which can never be undone. It’s even more dire than loosing the Miraculous last season, since at least those could be reclaimed. But life goes on, regardless of what happens in the past. All Marinette can do is learn from her experiences and do better next time.
Mistakes are inevitable. Pain and grief are inevitable. But so is growth. So is joy. So is life.
I predict that the end of Miraculous Ladybug will come when Marinette is finally comfortable with her ability to mess up and recover from it. When she accepts that sometimes bridges need to be burned, and that failure is a part of life. When she’s comfortable enough with herself to admit that, she’ll be ready to take on the new Butterfly holder and, with Adrien by her side this time, finally make a decisive victory.
Who knows what will happen after the final credits run. How the cycles of Creation and Destruction rear their heads in their lives. But by the time that moment comes, they’ll be prepared to square up and face it head on.
LITTLE SPOILER WARNING!: Season 2, episode 5 of Loki and dsmp finale I guess?…
HE DOESN’T WANT TO BE ALONE!
WTF!.. apparently all the mastermind, manipulators, agents of chaos, green villain boys bullied and over shadowed by blond dudes just want the simpler times with their friends back and don’t want to be alone… *sobs*
