isabela doesn't run the lords of fortune the way she does because she loves Ethical Piracy

isabela runs the lords the way she does because the last time she stole something important, kirkwall happened

having appraisers from a bunch of different cultures absolutely makes sense, and grabbing a finders fee for getting stuff back to its respective place is pretty reasonable (labour should be compensated)

like...it IS ethical piracy, but the root of it was never "oh maybe we should do better," it was always "hello my name is isabela and i would like to not get bodied by the entire qunari population a second time"

Happy Friday! Could I suggest Adrian and “My plans are loosely based on reality" please? Unfortunately I love him. <3

I'm not entirely happy with he dialogue in this, but me. Let's have some post DA Adrian based chaos. @dadrunkwriting

“Relax, Bella,” Adrian announced, with all the gravitas of someone who had absolutely no intention of relaxing anyone. “I’ve charted our course using the stars, the wind, and a gut feeling I got from this slightly damp map.”

Isabela blinked slowly, taking in the upside-down map, Adrian’s self-satisfied grin, and the steady lean of the ship that definitely shouldn’t have been happening in calm waters.

“That,” she said sweetly, “is precisely the sort of sentence that ends with you tied to the mast in your underpants.”

Behind them, Fenris didn’t even glance up from the rope he was coiling. “The map is upside down.”

Adrian frowned. Turned the map. Turned it again. Tilted his head. “Is it? Can a map even be upside down? I mean—technically—north is just a suggestion. It moves all the time.”

“North doesn’t move, you idiot,” Isabela snapped. “It’s a direction, not a whimsical concept.”

“Well,” Adrian tapped the parchment. “That depends. Philosophically, doesn’t everything move eventually? Land masses. Political borders. Our sense of moral consequence—”

“We’re drifting toward a sandbar,” Fenris cut in, still infuriatingly calm.

“What? No we’re not—”

A loud scrape echoed under the hull.

“Alright, fine,” Adrian said, exasperated. “We’ve made… light, flirtatious, caressing contact with a sandbar. For..." he waved a hand vaguely, “dramatic tension.”

Isabela muttered something in Rivaini—something that definitely involved an oar and Hawke’s backside. Fenris didn’t even blink. He just shook his head, the picture of a man determined not to engage with the idiocy unfolding beside him.

“I’m sensing a lot of negativity,” Adrian continued brightly. “Which is wild, because I’m ninety-five percent sure we’re exactly where we need to be.”

“Hawke, stop trying to sink my ship!” Isabela hissed, snatching the map. She froze, then recoiled. “Is this saltwater or—”

“I said it was wet,” Adrian replied, offended. “I was very clear.”

Fenris didn’t even look up. “You charted a course using stars and instinct. During daylight.”

Adrian held up a finger. “Ah—but what you fail to consider is that my gut operates on a higher plane. A squishy, opinionated compass.”

“We are on a sandbar,” Fenris observed, peering over the reiling. He glanced back at Isabela. “This may be the perfect moment to throw him overboard.”

“Rude!” Adrian cried, staggering back a step in mock betrayal, “And possibly mutiny.”

“You’re not the captain,” Isabela snapped. “You’re just the idiot we let hold a map.”

“First Mate idiot,” Adrian corrected, proudly. He paused, finger still raised like he had a point—then clearly forgot what it was. “Anyway—look!” He gestured grandly at the horizon, where nothing but open ocean and a few unimpressed seagulls waited. “That sandbar is exactly where the map said it would be. See? Everything’s going according to my plan.”

Fenris crossed his arms. “Your plan was incoherent at best.”

“My plan,” Adrian began grandly, “was completely grounded in reality.” He caught their looks, faltered. “Alright—reality-adjacent. Flexible. Like good storytelling. Loosely based in reality,” He grinned. “You’ve got to leave space for adventure.”
