AU/What-If scenario where Isaac is found and saved just in time before he suffocated in his chest, and his mother (luckily) still having enough sanity and common sense to know that she must rush her son to the ER ASAP when he fainted in her arms. Because of his need for recovery after his near fatal incident and his mother's inability to support him financially, the hospital volunteers to take care of Isaac and let him stay for the meantime in their youth care program.

During his stay there, Isaac goes through the numbing aftermath of his delirium and everything that had happened, and in his wearied, fatigued confuzzled state after having experienced all his trauma, vivid escapism and oxygen deprivation, learns to eventually reflect and understand, thanks to other peers, that what happened was never his fault and that his home life was not deserved nor normal, and that he mustn't let his thoughts override reality. Slowly but surely being able to find some peace, comfort and happiness to just be a kid again and work through his struggles during and after his recovery, finding safety and a new feeling of home in his new environment.

There is more depth to it and much more that I want to do with this AU, as it is something I have been fixating on for a couple of days now, but that is the basis of it :)

I've seen you talk a bit about pjo and I'm curious about how you feel about Epic the musical, a musical journey depicting Odysseus' journey home.

I personally quite like it, and frankly, I will continue to, but as someone not as knowledgeable as you in greek mythology, I figured it'd be useful to hear of possible flaws that I missed due to my biases or lack of knowledge.

Hi! Last time I got that ask I'd only heard a few pieces but now I've heard the whole of the available material. As I said in previous asks, I don't gravitate towards pop USA-style media anymore because I had enough already xD That's just a personal preference and it doesn't mean that Greeks generally won't like the musical! I don't know Greeks who have consumed it, tbh, so I don't know their opinion. I think anyone can see the objective value and artistry in this musical.

Like the similar previous ask, I still think that the music would be more appealing to me if it was Greek instruments and styles, but I certainly won't shit on a foreign creator for using their own style of music. Again, it all comes down to personal preference. The lyrics were a bit plain for me, too. Compared to the poetry of the original, this musical feels oversimplified.

Not that it doesn't take talent to create a whole musical like this. As always, I recognize the years of effort the creator took to finish each and every piece, and people can certainly be creative with the Greek myths. The creator tried to be as accurate as possible, hitting all the bits of the original myth and considering many touching moments, which I appreciate a lot. The dialogue between the characters made sense.

I heard it all from beginning to end, which means I enjoyed it enough. My favourite pieces are Survive, Done For, Hold Them Down and King. I also liked the Just a Man, Warrior of the Mind, Remember them, Charybdis, God Games, Get in the Water, I Can't Help But Wonder ("My son I'm finally home!" was so good!!).

There is one inaccuracy about Polyphemos and Poseidon. I'm not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be and there might be mistakes still, but I don't remember this happening like this in the text. In the original, Poseidon wanted to punish Odysseus because he dared to hurt his son, not because he didn't kill his son. In the musical Poseidon blames Odysseus because he didn't completely eliminate Polyphemos.

In God Games, Ares also accuses Odysseus of not killing Polyphemus and Scylla, which was definitely not a problem in the story. Also, the gods normally don't have a fight to convince Zeus that Odysseus should leave Circe. I read again Book Κ (10) of Odyssey and didn't see it at all.

Also it was Odysseus sailors that opened the bags, it wasn't Odysseus himself. Perhaps the creator wanted to combine events and save time, and show Odysseus cleverness. I don't mind this creative liberty although I much prefer the point of the original. The Polyphemous thing annoyed me a lot though 😅

I have almost 20 fics so bear with me lmao. We're gonna take a real long walk on this one. Also I'm only counting ones I've posted because otherwise that feels like cheating.

I think I'd have the best chance of survival with one of my STH inspired fics but that feels like cheating too. STH Techno can do no wrong and I'll always stand by that.

Honestly this with most my fics would probably be hell lmao. While the DSBI I write aren't usually outright aggressive they're more than a little loopy and would just find a reason to off me probably.

AFN and any Four Seasons fic are immediately off the list. Afn Techno might currently be a sweet little angel but I wouldnt wanna meet him after he's finished his change. AFN Phil goes without saying.

Even if I was meeting Techno at the current point in the story I don't think I'd survive since Phil really wouldn't take well to a random stranger talking to his kid. There's also Kristin but she is absolutely horrifying to meet so thats another no from me.

Four seasons would imply the existence of fae and I think I'd disintegrate in an environment like that. Also four seasons Phil is terrible and just sadistic. Believe it or not but he's playing nice with neo trio in those fics. I wouldn't want the chance to ever meet him.

Seeing as I'm working on a fic where ILMG Techno kills a neighbour for being irritating I don't think I'd ever wanna meet him. ILMG Phil and Wil could be fine but they're not fleshed out enough for me to really know.

I think I'd have an alright time in BFOB though. Its just the DSMP modified so I could have a passive chat with Tommy or Phil and that could be alright. Same goes of IDFR, thats a more accurate version of the DSMP and I don't think that'd be too terrible.

ODDO Phil could be nice to meet as well. He was just a sweet, lonely guy that lived by the seaside. He probably had a pretty fun life before that since I like to think he travelled. If this is post-horsing though then I'd have to pass.

ELTY, SGFA and EST are all royalty AU's so I'd have to pass on them as well. While Wil is skrunkly in them, his family is very much not and they totally abuse their power in their respective universes.

That all leaves me with DELG, Henchman and Harbingers to sift through.

Don't Ever Let Go could be fine. Its a superhero AU and talking to Kristin or Phil wouldn't result in immediate death. I brush over it in MBMB but Phil is passively friendly to everyone and people like him pretty decently.

Kristin does go off on a lot of 'work trips' but after acquiring twinsduo that cuts down. She's a villainness but whether its justified or not, I haven't decided yet. Its not as much fun when the narrative is 'the heros are the real bad guys'.

Its more interesting for me when the villains are villains and do bad, unjustifiable things. Makes more complex characters too, at least in my opinion. Either way I think she could be fun to meet but given the fact that they put up the facade of 'very normal boring family' I don't think it'd go anywhere too fun.

Henchman is probably off the table tbh. Techno would instantly try and shank me for money, Wilbur is a rich little asshole and I'd just wanna fight him. Phil could be ok but since his power is 'death upon touch' I'd be playing with fire.

Sure, he's more of a crime boss than steryotypical villain, but I think meeting him would just make him think I'm a cop or something. I don't think he'd believe the 'I'm actually your creator' story.

Harbingers could be fine as well. Phil is just an insane man and neo trio are more of a passive thing than an active threat. I haven't fully fleshed out their personalities yet (besides Phil and Kristin) but I don't think they'd instantly try and murder me.

They're kinda like a physical manifestation of poison, staying around them will just slowly kill you. I haven't worked out exactly how it works but meeting them would have me walking away with various health problems probbaly.

Phil could be fun though. But he is completely delusional and will become violent if you try break what he sees as his reality. That man belongs in a ward but instead he's been adopted back by his eldritch family.

I think in the end I'd go with ODDO Phil since he's a pretty chill dude. Even in the sequel I'm working on, he's much calmer than neo trio when it comes to murder. If it's pre transformation then he'd just share little stories with me and bake me some lamb based dish.

Post transformation would be less friendly but not outright hostile, he'd be more confused about how I knew so much about him than anything. He'd probably just brush it off as some kind of magic stuff though since he's cool like that.

Some Unconnected Ramblings on RWBY V9E6

So i bit the bullet and watched the Bees episode, Im still not entirely certain i'll watch the seasons I missed or watch future episodes as im not certain it'd be good for my mental health, but I needed to see the bees at least. I dont have much of an opinion on the bees tbh, the scene was good in execution if clunky in its inclusion. Yangs little wiggle-skip on the first step was absolutely adorable, The pairing works and its nice to see RT have the balls to go for it, even if i dont actually believe the people claiming it was "planned for certain" from the start. (i believe it was planned in potentia, but kept with deliberate deniability in case of backlash with Blacksun and YangXSomeoneElse as emergency fallback options)

You know, i kind of like how Jaune treats the cat. Like i dont agree with any of it, but it makes sense for the character and narative. Like, its clear that he's projecting more then just his own insecurities. He's projecting his experiences with every other authorityfigure in the known universe onto them.

From Ironwood's sociopathic sacrifice of the innocent. Lionhearts treacherous sacrficice of hundreds of hunters Ozpins manipulation and willing sacrifice of Pyrrha.

Jaune has literally no reason to believe that anyone in any position of authority or power could ever choose NOT to sacrifice the innocent for their own dubious, nebulous goals. and i sort of respect it as a narrative direction. (I acknowledge its not a healthy worldview to have, skepticism is healthy and good, cynicism is toxic and kills the soul). I just hope that JRWBY can dig him out of the cynicism before the story turns him into fallen hero territory.

I also dont think that Jaunes story is the "truth", but unlike most comments people make about it. About how he's working with incomplete data, making wrong assumptions about which twin lived, assuming malice in acts that might be different within context, and the clear show of how a decade of hindsight has tainted his view of Alix's childish naivete into an image of horrid sociopathy. Everyones talked about all of these.

but the thing i find most interesting is how he's seemingly slandering himself in his retelling.

As he retells the story, he makes it sound like he was less a guide and protector painted in the fairytale then a particularly railroad-heavy DungeonMaster, as if he was overly controlling and downright manipulative in his handling of the kids. Meanwhile we the audience know for a fact that Jaune is a good person at heart, and Jaune is demonstrably great with kids (as long as said kids arent possessed by a thousand-year old sociopath, Liches' Georg is an outlier and should not be counted). And we know Jaune was verry well aware of the dangers of the Everafter, just one misstep, one wrong tree touched and he lost decades of his life. Clearly we can reconstruct that he wasn't this shady figure he was painting himself as, he was a worried adult trying to protect two naive children from an inherintly hostile ecosystem where any whimsy the children acted on could verry well have seen them shrunk, aged, otherwise altered or possibly killed outright.

But decades of grief have tainted his own selfimage to such a degree he now believes himself to have been this malicious parasite on the kids adventure.

Also i like how he has a point about the Reincarnation-amnesia=death of personality thing. Like yeah, even if the soul continues to exist, without the memories its not really the same person.

I dont think Alice "poisoned" jaune, i think Alice cooked them all dinner using EverAfter ingredients, served Jaune first while having a talk over dinner and just played with her food long enough to see Jaune faint from poison. (before a Punderstorm/Jabberwalker/Other threat forced them to move on without him).

I dont believe him for one second when he says the cat is some sort of psychopomp, and i definitly think the cat returned to him after the twins went missing because the cat was legitimately worried about the nice and helpfull guy who'd just ate poison.

I do believe the cat is weird though, like its ability to subjegate free will is shady and creepy, its design screams "I am definitly the crown reforged into a new sentient entity by the blacksmith". I think the cat used the smith and/or tree to free itself from its godly prison, and is in essence the only "free genie" amongst the four.

Just watched the new episode.

Kinda disappointed ngl. Not enough of the Herrmanns being happy. She just beat cancer?? I feel sorta robbed of happy Herrmanns after all the cancer shit. They could have skipped or shortened, Brett fucking crying (because hate that, leave the smol bean alone ffs) and given a cute happy moment between Chris and Cindy. They deserve it. They just do.

I suppose that's what fanfic is for tho.

Otherwise it was pretty solid overall. I'm not impressed with the Brettsey storyline. I like how Sylvies been with Dylan tbh. And I thought she was more or less, over him? Although to be fair, the year after my gf broke up with me, I also may have cried if she came back to town unannounced. Still shitty tho. Unpopular opinion (maybe?) I like the way things mesh now. Casey doesn't fit anymore. This episode, aside from his interactions with Gallo (and Cindy lol) he kinda felt like a monkewhrench. If he does come back to Chicago, I think it'd be better if he got placed at a different house.

Love the spotlight on Tony. We need more of him and Capp. I love those guys. They're great. I liked the personality that came out of Tony when the floater was poking fun at Capp. Loved it.

And I like the look into Gallos past. Love that. Would've been fucking nice if they didn't attempt to kill his aunt just after we meet her tho, Jeeze.

Interesting spark(??) between Carver and Vi. I am so not here for that ship tho. But it'd be nice if they got to be closer friends. He's already friends with Gallo so it would work.

They also seem to be setting Cruz up to take over squad. Which is like, yay promotion for Cruz, but I don't like the dynamic and Kidd needs her man back. I lean more towards Plouch and Herrmanns but I do miss stellaride. They were such a power couple. And Cruz needs to be there for Javi and Otis. He's not juggling that too well and it's kinda heartbreaking. They did give Severide a timing so hopefully he comes back soon.

Thoughts on what I personally would like:

More love for Ritter. More Trudy. I know we get her in PD but we can never have to much of that Bad Bitch. Also plouch is adorable I need more of them. I'd like to see Donna but I very much enjoy the fact that Boden is having a great family life rn. She should visit tho. More happy Herrmanns for sure. You made us watch them be miserable and there were lots of touching moments (my fav) but like, threw a happy bone at us now. That party was soooo underwhelming. It would also be kinda neat to see more of Engine. We only really know Herrmann and Ritter but it'd be kinda nice to firm up the other guys. They're the only bit of 51 that we don't really know. They don't even have to be elevated to capp and Tony involvement. It would just be nice to know who tf they are lol.

And those are my thoughts for this episode (11x18)

Literally can't wait for the next one. Which is really nice since I haven't looked forward to Fire in Months.

(This is for fun and also my personal opinion. Also tbh I don't cry listening to music I might cry based on the thoughts they give me tho. I don't cry very often unless certain things happen so there's that)

8) Primrose, the Dancer

Ngl reminds me of something I danced along to when I was in 2nd grade taking ballet classes. The violin melody is very nice and I feel like I'd have a really hard time attempting to play it because I absolutely cannot do vibrato. Very beautiful but not to the point that it'd make me cry. I'd probably just vibe along to it because my goodness what a masterpiece.

7) Cyrus, the Scholar

Gives me Howl's Moving Castle vibes ngl and I don't cry to Howl's Moving Castle music. Very scholarly and professional sounding, and very fitting with the time signature. Reminds me of the ever growing library of knowledge that exists in this world. How fitting. The reason why it's above Primrose's theme is because the scholarly-ness and nature of the piece reminds me how even though I'm in my school's extended math class I feel as if everyone else is so much better and smarter than me and that makes me sad. Oh the woes of the ever growing need for intelligence and knowledge.

6) Olberic, the Warrior

The horns in this piece! THE HORNS! It brings back the feeling of nostalgia (not in my own experiences, just a feeling of nostalgia and thinking about the past in general). It wouldn't make me cry but it would probably make me feel regal and powerful which I really appreciate. Until I realise that I'm not regal and powerful. And then I get sad. But I also really love this piece because of the modulation holy crap that was so unexpected but so good and it sounds beautiful. This piece makes me ascend to another realm entirely.

5) Therion, the Thief

Something about this piece speaks out to me. It feels unique, and has a sense of longing and loneliness to it. I love how the instruments are able to work together to bring out this feeling, and the main melody really brings out its uniqueness. Due to the longing and loneliness vibe it gives me I feel like it'd make me cry but only when I'm feeling alone and isolated from others, and in a bad way. I do like to sit in solitude sometimes after all.

4) Ophilia, the Cleric

Now we're actually getting into the more-than-50%-would-cry-listening-to-this half of the list. If I came to an ethereal paradise this would be the background music playing there. The flute melody is so beautiful and very touching. There's a soft and gentle touch to this piece that kind of caresses me when I listen to it. It gives me the feeling of winter, not the cold harsh aspect of it, but the warming aspect, and how many holidays in winter encourage spending time with friends and family. It makes me feel like I'm not alone, and that has a chance to make ya girl shed a tear.

3) Tressa, the Merchant

Contrary to Ophilia's theme, this one gives me summery vibes. I'm not too much of a summer enjoyer because it's hot and sticky, but this music brings me to a coastal town much like Tressa's. Its tunes brings me a sense of humility. It reminds me to appreciate the small things in life that I need to learn to love. Knowing that the piece gives me warm vibes brings ne knowledge that I'm not too hated in this world. People care for me. They don't hate me. I belong. It brings me peace and awakens love within me for my community, my family and friends, the people around me, and reminds me to spread love to even people I may not know too well. If you see this, you're valid and I appreciate you.

2) H'aanit, the Hunter

I did not expect H'aanit's theme to sound like this. It sounds like something I'd hear playing in a hotel lobby while eating at a buffet. It's just... beautiful. It reminds me of a woodland paradise. Like Therion's, I feel alone when listening to it, but not in a bad way. It's the solitude the piece brings that hits hard. The solitude in this piece reminds me that even though I may not be who I want to be, I should still love myself, just as H'aanit's theme was different from my expectations, but still so beautiful. This song brings the "it's so beautiful that I could cry" kind of vibes. Also, F major is such a fitting key for the vibes this piece brings. Just... gorgeous.

1) Alfyn, the Apothecary

I heard one note of this piece and immediately felt like crying on the inside. Can I just say, the strings and the saxophone work so well together?? How?? I did not expect that but it's great and I love it. Alfyn's theme reminds me of family. Nowadays I often feel like I take family for granted. I spend less time with them because I'm always on this stupid phone. This piece reminds me of the home, how much I love my family, and how much I'd pay to be with them forever. Alfyn's theme takes the number one spot on this list for the feels and the message it brings me. Also because it's a beautiful theme and I love it.

Cuz many c!techno apologists argue that he isn't just cuz he's an anarchist but I've also read a lot of essays that go against it and it'd be really interesting to see ur opinion on this

i think he, in some contexts, can most definitely be called tyrannical, yes. a tyrant? no.

to avoid spamming ppl w discourse we've all def heard before (and bc this ended up MASSIVE (like 2.3k ish), but fairly in depth bc i didnt wanna speak out of bad faith and wanted to be EXPLICTLY clear-- oops), the rest will be under readmore

so heres the thing i want to preface: i used to really LOVE c!techno. i joined beginning of s2, right when exile started, and he was arguably my favorite character. since then though i've fallen out with him a LOT, to the point i almost... actively despite him at times (though mainly in a toxic kind of way which i can acknowledge is flawed).

in short, his actions started to speak louder than his words and i lost investment in his personal character struggles because of the actions he took (doomsday was my breaking point. i get feeling angry and betrayed, as well as seeking revenge against lmanberg, but his actions went too far for me to CARE and it hurt so many more characters as well.)

so when i speak, i come from a place of disliking him but also somewhat understanding the position c!techno apologists come from: i used to be one of them myself.

NOW, do i think he's a tyrant? no. for reference in my analysis, i try to look up the definition of terms to make sure they are utilized properly. while "tyranny" and "tyrannical" can have multiple uses, tyrant itself is a more specific term. to combine the top two definitions, a tyrant is referring to "an extremely oppressive, unjust, or cruel absolute ruler (who governs without restrictions, especially one who seized power illegally.)"

techno's position as an anarchist, imo, DOES indeed make him unable to be a tyrant. tyrants are rulers with very clear power over others from a structural way. anarchists are about the lack of structure or power over others and instead viewing the people around you as equals in power.

in forming the syndicate, they very explicitly worked to not designate a leader and instead make it so that no one would have any power over the others systemically. techno may have taken a integral role, yes, but it doesn't make him suddenly "the leader", its a role that wouldve had to be filled by someone (even if it was democratic to decide who to invite, they'd need someone to hand over the invite itself yknow? like no matter WHAT there needed to be A ROLE)

one could argue that he IS a leader in the shadow hierarchy of the syndicate (which, yes, is a real and professional term used in management courses despite sounding like it comes from a 4kids yugioh dub) in that everyone CONSIDERS and looks to him a leader without him having any actual structural basis behind it, but to argue that allows him to be a tyrant is in bad faith i believe. especially because to the people he would be "ruling", he ISNT oppressive, unjust, or cruel. they are his friends and support network and critical for a lot of his personal development (since feelings of betrayal and trust issues are critical to his character and why he acts the way he does). I wish we were able to SEE this develop more, but oh well.

but like i said: tyrant is fairly specific in definition. TYRANNY, and thus TYRANNICAL are not as limited. I've discussed their definitions here. originally, i made that post because i was angry at a take i had seen that claimed that, like you said, because techno was an anarchist and not part of any government or leadership position, he couldn't be tyrannical. to which i heartily disagree.

for something to be tyrannical, they simply must have an overarching/oppressive power over someone or something. it would not be inaccurate if i were to say that something is "under the tyranny" of a concept, because what it means is that something is under the power of another thing/concept. you can frankly call anything tyranny if it is widespread/overarching and you don't like it. mask mandates? tyranny, its forcing me to act in "rigorous condition". hell, theres even such things as tyranny of the majority in which people agree too much on one thing and it gives them unfair power or tyranny of the minority where people with minority opinions have too much power (thats a very grossly oversimplified definition of both, but it covers the base idea well enough for my point)

the point im making above isnt meant to be taken as "anything can be worked to be defined as tyranny thus it is a meaningless claim", it is that tyranny (and again, thus tyrannical) are very open and nonrestrictive terms.

to make it easier to define, alongside the definitions provided i want to add an explicit clause that is (imo) implied in the original definition: tyranny is... well, bad. that is to say if someone has power over a group but literally everyone is fine with it and agrees to it, its not tyranny. thats just a group of people getting along and one happens to have power over another. a leader does NOT equal a tyrant (as discussed above), so leadership should not be equated with tyranny.

thus as an example: wilbur acting as president (before the election) may have been "unelected" with power over his citizens, but no one was upset with that power. thus, he is not a tyrant and not acting tyrannically (as well as the fact his power was, arguably, NOT rigourous or absolute but thats another topic for another time). SCHLATT however IS a tyrant, as his power was absolute (he did not consult his cabinet) and forced people to comply instead of them complying willingly, thus he was acting tyrannically.

now to finally get to the damn point of this essay: where does c!techno lie? honest answer? it depends slightly on your perspective, but it depends a LOT on the future of the syndicate.

techno is incredibly clear in his goals: no governments, no corruption. in fighting with pogtopia, he is actively working to topple a tyranny-- he isn't tyrannical for doing that.

when he strikes out on nov 16th, it is because he opposes them forming a new government. when they oppose him and disagree, he launches an attack against them. is this tyranny? maybe, but probably not. he IS trying to impose his own physical strength and power (as well as his resources) over the others to stop them from doing what HE doesn't want them to do.

however its more nuanced than that:

1. hes lashing out emotionally as well as politically. he feels betrayed by those he trusted and he believed that they would destroy the government then go (i'm ignoring any debates on if he did or did not know that they planned another government, though it is a source of debate). but typically idk about you but i dont call tyranny for someone fighting with another person.

2. he also may be acting with good intent again, in HIS EYES. if tubbo was part of manburg, whos to say he wont be just as bad? he, in his pov, is likely trying to stop another tyrant before they rise.

3. and finally, and tbh the most damning from any perspective: he gives up. he quickly leaves then RETIRES without intent to try and attack again until he is later provoked. tyranny is defined by it not just being power, but power being USED. if he doesn't use his power to try and impose any will, then he's not tyrannical.

Doomsday I am also not going to touch very in depth on for much of the same reasons. My answer is again a "maybe", depending on the weight you personally place on each issue:

1. he's lashing out as revenge for the butcher army and as revenge against tommy for "betraying" him (though this one we explicitly know he was ignoring the fact tommy did not want to go through with it, however he still did trust and respect tommy regardless so his feelings are understandable anyway)

2. he sees new lmanberg as corrupt and tyrannical (which is undeniable: house arrest for noncompliance, exile without counsel, execution without trial, etc), and thus obligated to destroy it

but also, theres the implicit understanding he's doing this to send a message: do not form a government, or else. its a display of force that also works to warn others unless they want a similar fate. phil even explicitly states that he is doing so to send that message, so one could assume techno is doing the same alongside his personal reasoning listed above.

what i just described is the use of a oppressive and harsh (physical) power in order to gain compliance from people (that compliance being 'not making a government'). does that sound familiar? exactly. it follows the definition(s) of tyranny given previously. technoblade is acting in a way that is, by very definition, tyrannical.

so the debate shifts: is he valid in doing so because he is trying to PREVENT corruption and tyranny. like i said, new lmanberg was undeniably corrupt at points. i held nothing against techno for trying to topple manburg, so does that apply to new lmanberg as well? short answer: i dont know. it depends on your specific opinion of what is acceptable. its like the paradox of tolerance: to have a truly tolerant society, you have to be intolerant of intolerance. to have a truly non-tyrannical society, do you need to have a tyranny enforcing it?

personally (and bc im a lmanberg loyalist /hj) i say it is. regardless of the corruption of new lmanberg, they are also giving a threat to EVERYONE. even those who are innocent, they are presented with the exact same threat and rule set: if you make a government, you will be destroyed.

(which, small divergence here, is part of why debating c!techno is so frustrating. so many times you end up hitting a "well it depends on your political views" situation and there ISNT a correct answer there. im here to analyze characters for fun, not debate political theory)

so: the syndicate then. this is where this debate really "took off" and i think its due to one very specific miscommunication about its goals and plans. the syndicate, upon formation, declares itself to stand against corruption and tyranny. when they are found, the syndicate would work to destroy it. so heres the golden question: what do THEY define as corruption and tyranny? if you were to go off c!techno's previous statements, seemingly "any government" is a valid answer. however, he also states he's fine with people just being in groups together hanging together.

what then DEFINES A GOVERNMENT for them? what lines do they have to sort out what does "deserve to be destroyed" and what does "deserve to exist freely"

this is a hypothetical i like to post when it comes to syndicate discourse:

i have a group of people. lets say 5 or so for example. they all live together and build together. any decisions made that would impact the entire group they make together and they must have a unanimous agreement in order to proceed, but otherwise they are free to be their own people and do their own thing. when you ask them, they tell you they are their own nation and they have a very clearly defined government: they are a direct democracy. does the syndicate have an obligation to attack?

there is absolutely no hierarchy present. there is no corruption present. but, they ARE indeed a government. is that then inherently negative? my answer is fuck no (see the whole "difference between a tyrant and a leader" thing above).

but THATS where the issue of this discourse LIES. in some people's eyes, the answer to that is YES. techno's made it clear "no government" is his personal view, but does that spread to the syndicate as a whole? do they act preemptively in case it DOES become corrupt? is it inherently corrupt because its a government, regardless of how it is ruled? the fact of the matter is because of how little we've seen the syndicate work as a SYNDICATE, we don't know that answer. so we're left to debate and speculate HOW they would act.

if the syndicate were to let that government exist, then they are not tyrannical. they are showing that they are working to stop tyranny and corruption, just like in pogtopia again.

if the syndicate were to destroy/attack that government, then they are tyrannical. simple as that. they are enforcing a rule of their own creation without any nuance or flexibility under the threat of absolute destruction.

miscommunication in debates comes, in my opinion, in the above. of course theres more points of nuance. for example:

would the syndicate allow a government like i had described with early lmanberg, where there is an established hierarchy but everyone in the country consents to said leadership? on one hand, there is no tyranny or corruption present which is what they are trying to work against. on the other hand, theres more a possibility of it occuring. perhaps they'd find a middle road between the two binary options of "leave or destroy" i am presenting, such as checking in occasionally to ensure no corruption occurs.

but if they were to destroy it without, for lack of a better word, "giving it a chance" they would be, in my opinion, tyrannical. they would be going aginst their words of opposing corruption and instead abusing their power to gain compliance.

your/others opinions may differ, again it depends on if you see it as worth it to possibly stop future tyranny or if a hierarchy is INHERENTLY a negative thing.

part of the reason so many blog gave up this debate, beyond not getting very clear answers for the syndicate, is because of the nuance present. there. is. no. right. answer. every single person will view it differently, because there is no universally agreed upon truth of right or wrong here. BUT, i hope this helps shed some light on the discussion and my thoughts on it

You started filling the hem of your shirt with snacks, as many as you could fit in the scrunched up fabric that is, a tired but playful grin on your lips, as you thought over what you planned to do, mentally prepping yourself.

Normally, you're not so bold about seeking out comfort and such, feeling shy about showing vulnerability...but today, ugh, today had you particularly worn down. You needed something, affection preferably. You'd settle for a warm bath and some melatonin if you had to. Though, you really didnt want too.

You were tired of self soothing all the time. And Asmos care packages could only help so much. But you knew how to make it all magically better. There was only one option in times like these .

You worked quickly, excitement bouncing around in your gut, making your hands a little shaky.

Having grabbed all you could you carry, you practically dashed from the kitchen. Your mind set on finding a certain big demon. Last you heard, he was headed to his room for a bit. You hoped he was still there.

When you finally reached his bedroom door, you found yourself in a tad bit of a pickle. Your eyebrows furrowed, the realization that you wouldn't be able to open the door making you frown at the closed door briefly. You cursed yourself slightly, for not thinking that far ahead. You forgot in all your excitement.

Briefly you considered trying to use you feet before dropping the idea. Guess you've got no choice.

Dang it! You felt kinda bummed that you'd be losing the element of surprise, but the grin soon returned, thinking about seeing Beel always you happy, regardless of the circumstances.

"Beeeeellllllllllll!" You called out, letting a bit of a whine into your voice, hey, who knows? Maybe it'd get him in front of you faster?? He tended to be on the slower side of answering his door, sometimes he simply didnt hear it. Especially if he was working out or watching tv.

Apparently, whining his name did not speed him up:(

You were about to call out again, worried he hadn't heard you, when the door clicked open. The mere sound making you feel slightly giddy. Your eyes snapping up to meet his briefly. You soaked in as many details of him as you could, without just straight ogling him, before flicking your eyes back up to meet his.

"Y/n?" He seemed pleasantly surprised, dressed in a black tank top and grey sweats (you were happy to see him wearing them, because while he looked like a whole ass meal in them, it also meant he had no plans of leaving the house tonight).

His eyes were quick to find the odd lumps wrapped up in your shirt, as well as the bit of tummy peaking out. The position you held your shirt in had caused the bottom of your stomach to show, something you had worried about on the way here, anxious about a different brother catching a glimpse of you. You could feel his stare burn against your skin, he was about to say something, but then his nose twitched, and his eyes fixed on your bundle of snacks instead.

Not that you minded his staring your stomach, not with Beel.

The others...maybe.

Your tummy was one of his favorite parts about you, he's hands finding their way under your shirt to touch and squeeze the soft flesh more often than not. Always gentle and non intrusive. I think he'd full on cry if he accidentally upset you somehow tbh.

Boy had absolutely no shame about it, once he learned you didnt mind much.

Especially when you seemed to be a bit shy about showing your stomach, with the others, or just in general. He made sure to let you know how much he loved your squish. Be it at RAD or just casually in the house.

The only person who ever raised a fuss over it was Mammon, although, he tended to fuss over everything you did anyways;; His protests did absolutely nothing to deter you or Beel, much to his dismay.

Sometimes, if Beel was hungry and needed a distraction or a quick 'pick me up', he'd scoop you up and just shove his face into your tummy. (Much like what I do with my cat when I'm bored and/or sad) Then he'd just hold you there until he absolutely had to let you down.

Relishing in the feel of your softness and you heart racing under your skin, fluttering so delicately under his lips, pressing his face against you was an instant mood lifter for him.

You loved it, a surprised but delighted laugh always ripping from your chest, almost subconsciously. You couldn't hide your happiness in his affections, not that you would want to (thats a lie, you cant help but be embarrassed at the end of the day by the intensive joy you felt whenever you looked at him). Which only seemed to motivate him even more, and soon each time he scooped you up, he'd kiss all over your tummy, making you giggle because it tickled, before hugging you close with a small sigh.

"I brought snacks, and some cuddles. So uhm, can I nap on you for a bit? 'M tired. Unless your busy or something..." you beam up at him, starting to hesitate toward the end, suddenly a little unsure.

"Pretty please?? I wont bug ya, I promise." You plead, pulling your best puppy dog eyes, shifting from one foot to the other nervously. His eyes widened as his brain processed what you said, and the cute sight in front of him. If he was being honest, it made his brain stop for a split second.

He chuckled at you and lifted you up by the back of your knees, holding you carefully to his chest, mindful of your full shirt. A small startled squeak coming from you as he did so, a sound he never got tired of hearing.

You glanced in the room as he closed to door, he had papers sprawled over the small coffee table in the middle of the room, and a few (you spotted more in the trash bin in the corner) empty food wrappers around his work space. He plopped down in front of the table again, taking only a few steps to reach it. You were kind of jealous, your short legs never being a fair match against his. Luckily he enjoyed carrying you, which solved that issue right quick.

"You can keep me company while I finish my homework." He says, shifting you into his lap and keeping a loose hold on your lower stomach, fingers splaying out to get a small feel of your exposed skin. Glancing around, you dont see belphies mop of hair in his bed, he was probably sleeping in the attic or the observatory, you quietly hum to yourself, abit happy to have Beel all to yourself for the moment. Shifting forward, Beels hands refusing to let you go and setting on your waist, you hold your shirt above the edge of the table, and let the snacks spill from your shirt before smoothing the garment back down, missing Beels frown as he looses sight of your tummy. Quickly moving to organize the snacks a bit, so that they were within reach and not scattered all over his papers and in the way.

"Thank you, your the bestest!!" You say, the dull ache in your arms more than worth the effort in your opinion.

You tilted your head back so you can look up at him. Making eye contact with him made your brain kinda just...mush. Your hands slowly squeezing his on your waist, lifting them so you move a bit.

You tore you gaze from his, before turning around and wrapping your arms around his nack and your legs around his torso,(like a koala in his opinion).

Scooting as close as you could get away with, (your not as stealthy as you give yourself credit for, he knows, he just too nice to tease you for it, and he doesn't want you to stop), so you could snuggle up to him and be comfy at the same time. Which wasn't all that hard to do with him, being the teddy bear he is.

Your eyes glazed over slightly, and you were distracted as you mind pulled your attention away.

Ah, you were in pure bliss, you could die happy like this~

You had grabbed plenty of snacks, being sure to vary in your choices, knowing Beel would like to have options, and hoping to be able to buy some extra time with him and a cute Beel smile as a reward for your effort. Tho, youd do it anyways.

Not that you'd ever admit to that. Nuh uh, no way. Unless he asked nicely, you'd give in embarrassingly fast if he ever did, the realization making your face heat up.

But...

Embarrassment be damned, youd never tell Beel 'No'.

He looks down at you, face going all blushy and soft at your slightly dazed and flushed expression. Your thoughts getting the best of you for a moment. Shaking your head slightly and letting out a resigned sigh.

"Of course you can," you snap out of it when he speaks up, looking up at him, quick to give him your full attention. "I love when you cuddle up with me, it helps me focus a bit. You didn't have to bribe me, though, as long as its you, my cuddles come free-" wrapping his arms around your shoulders, giving you a snug hug, he moves to continue. "Not that I'm complaining-" you cut him off, feeling slightly guilty about it. You were already flustered, and his sweet words weren't helping your predicament one bit. That was until your eyes actually focus on his face, oh sweet hell, hes so precious!!! Your heart thumps nearly painfully for a moment, nerves biting into your thoughts.

Your face was definitely beat red now, you could feel it at the tips of your ears even. Yet you refused to move, your eyes locked on his. A rare occurrence, one you could tell he was basking in, his eyes were glued to your face, studying it. His flush deepening slightly.

Squishing his cheeks and "shushing" him gently. Your basically cooing at him, to tired suddenly to care much about how your words or actions came off. The nervousness slipping away from your voice and movements. "Its not a bribe hun, I just felt like seeing you smile before I fell asleep on you. Heh, your smile is my goodluck charm for good dreams, ya know?" You tiredly rub his cheek with your thumb, eyes lit up happily and content. Giving him a small breathless laugh at the end.

He really did calm you down, your mind slowing down as the excitement started to fade, a fact you became overly aware of quite suddenly, your eyes feeling quite heavy now that you felt safe.

You yawned, your weariness catching up to you.

Beels quick to notice, taking note of the bags under your eyes. Dont worry, he'll make sure you get some good sleep, no bad dreams were gonna plague you on his watch. He glances over at the snacks you brought, unbelievably happy. Seeing you so cutely curled up to him, the fact that you brought him as much food as you could carry(a sight he nearly died from when he saw it) and your sweet sweet words, it definitely warmed his heart to say in the least.

He loved that you actually came to find him, just so you could cuddle. His adoration for you is bottomless, just like his hunger.

So, Beel wraps you inna big bear hug, pulling you closer and peppering the top of your head and face with kisses. He gives you a big grin, his eyes sparkling happily. "Nap, I'll wake you up when I'm done and we can hangout till dinner."

You tiredly nod, relaxing against him.

Grabbing a baggy of chips, he smooches your forehead, before tucking your face under his chin so he could munch, and see his work(not like that was much of an issue, beels a big boy after all👀), without completely covering the top of your head in crumbs (you'd told him you didn't mind, especially since he always ruffled your hair to get then out, and you loved that...but he still feels bad about it and tries to avoid it to some extent) and being able to rest his chin on top your head was just the cherry on top for him.

Sighing happily, you close your eyes. Beels cuddles making all your stress melt away, just like they always did. Slowly, you start to drift off, listening to the soft scratch of his pen as he starts to work and his deep breathing, letting it lull you into sleep.

I dont know why my brain wanted me to got all out on this. I literally jus couldn't stop tweaking with it. Imma post if before i decide to change it. About a day late, but I saw you revue starlight onions, and while I've always disagreed with your stance that Karen and Hikari aren't great, you always bring perspective I hadn't considered, so it'd be nice if you could elaborate your current examination, and perhaps the personality you think Karen deserved? P.S. Upon the decision to write this, I realized(?) that, on a metaphorical level, Karen uses Tokyo Tower as a strap, so here's that for your brain too? Dunno how to parse this myself tbh.

I mean if you feel otherwise I honestly think that's great and I'm glad for you! I mean that sincerely because I wish I could feel the same way. It doesn't get in the way of my love of the show because I find their arc quite satisfying thematically and I was quite touched by the last episode and found it very powerful, but I wish I could be invested or enjoy watching their actual relationship as they interact normally or get the sense that there's any real meat there, you know, like.... something to be invested in, especially for any potential future romance that's clearly already in play to some degree. If the show's core conflict is about their relationship, their dream together, being challenged because it's not allowed by the system, and their struggle to protect and preserve it within that system while trying to break through its restrictions, I seriously really need to have a reason to be invested or care about that danger, to want them to succeed beyond just the fact that they're the main characters and in the moment I'm naturally inclined to root for them. Because this is a very strong, compelling thematic focus that's also right in tune with the show's themes and message and that part is executed excellently, but I would really love to care more.

And I don’t mean that there’s a specific personality I think Karen should have had so much as it’s just an extension of how I think she’s very thin as a character. Her personality as it is now is just a copy paste of the Clumsy But Good main character of girl-focused series archetype like with nothing new or interesting twists in it. She ends the show pretty much the same character she was in the start with maybe some self reflection about how she was a little quick to assume about how easy it would be to break through the system, but she's still that same overwhelming force of positivity and still set in same core ideas she always was. She's the one challenging the system, the one who's special and different and refusing to try to work with it or cooperate with it. She's the person Hikari is desperately trying to protect and save at some grave costs. That kind of focus of the plot needs to be, idk, interesting as a person or as a character? I need to be given reason to like or be interested in her as a human being? Why would she be special in that way? What about her should be so exceptional? She's hardly the only girl in the show driven by affection or love. What about her makes her deserving of success? What is there to make her special or worthy of being an exception like that beyond just being Positive and Good and Inspiring? Like, all her arc is about her relationship with Hikari, but who even is she as a character beyond that relationship and what role she has to play symbolically or show who she is as a person? 

But that's just, like, you know, my opinion, man.

I did go and comment on Grian's last episode with some Ideas for S3 game mechanics, so here's what I put down for the fandom to chew on. I am 95% sure at least one of these will happen, because I all but predicted the red-life curse completely on accident, which means Apollo likes me, which means it might actually happen.

-Instead of 'all reds must cut off all their alliances', let them have One Ally, but that ally has to cut off everyone but the red person.

-Amplified world. Just because fall damage is the most entertaining way for folks to go when they're not pulling a Tango.

-Trying to summon Bdubs was too funny to not suggest that the spectators should be able to stay on and help and occasionally flip a lever even if they can't place blocks.

-Keep the change-your-skin-on-red thing we've got going. Eventually Grian himself will do it and I will die a happy man.

-TNT now has a 1/5 chance of spawning a Ghast 50 blocks above it when it explodes. -Wouldn't it be funny if there was an end portal somewhere in the map? I think it'd be funny.

-If you're on red, you should be allowed to hear the spectators if they're close enough to you, although I'd say prox chat for spectators to reds has half the radius that it normally does, so they have to be closer in order to be heard.

-Although honestly I just want to see more spectators getting to do what Bdubs did, and their series not necessarily being over if they permadie.

-You can give a life to a spectator to put them back on red... but only once, and you can't bring them up to yellow from there. Even better, there are three alternate totems of undying that do just this, but there's only three total, so only three dead can come back. (Makes the stakes higher in the endgame, especially assuming that season three will have more people. The infighting would be bloody glorious.)

-Please keep the boogeyman feature, it was so much fun.

(Another guy also suggested a Sworn Enemy system, where at the beginning of the game you're given a random person and you can't ally with them, or ally with any of their current allies. That would also be mega interesting. Imagine the angst if folks rolled their husbands from previous seasons.)

I haven't touched my FR account in about two, maybe three years, and I've been diving in and out of art sales forum for about three days.

If you can draw humanoids (or even better can gijinka dragons based off the dragon and a description of what I'd like), have open slots, and you take gems, PLEASE reblog this post with a link to your art shop / commissions sheet. I have 29kg right now from liquidating about half my account. I've only sold half my dragons (I was an almost pure gen1 lair) and I have not yet listed the twenty-six pages of apparel I have.

I have a metric fuckton of gems. I have OCs that need art. Art sales forum has only given me a little luck. ;~; Help me, FR tumblr. You've been wonderful in the past, I'm counting on you now.
