Disclaimer: I am white so this is just my take that may or may not have some merit. This is just me trying to continue an interesting debate. I agree with what has been said so far.

I think this whole "pray vs predator" thing is an attempt to battle the "perfect victim" narrative, where marginalised people are only deserving of help/accommodation/equal rights IF they have never hurt anyone. Animated movies are still aimed primarily at children who might due to their upbringing/environment actually believe that certain demographics ARE in some way fundamentally different. This stories are supposed to convey that even if they are different they are above all else people and that matters more. I by no means think this is ideal, especially as a racism allegory.

But isn't necessarily a direct racism metaphor. I also see some of this stories as potential metaphors for the fear of poor/homeless people and autism/sociopathy/other "scary" neurodivergencies, xenophobia and religious intolerance.

I know for myself that I can get overwhelmed by things others might not even notice, it is a fact of my biology/neurology, while that usually doesn't make me angry or aggressive there are those that do have deal with such tendencies. And they are no less human or worthy of respect for it.

In Zootopia the main villain triggers predators' instincts are in order to demonize them and take away their rights. Most minorities are constantly bombarded with infuriating information and many campaigns are designed specifically to upset those who fight for equality in order to discredit and dismiss them. I do not think this is a worthless message. But like all metaphores this one too has it's limits and by tackling a topic that is common to many types of marginalisation the creators muddled the waters a bit.

They could have relatively easily corrected some of the weak spots by showing what happens to prey animals when shot - maybe they go insane just the same as predators or maybe they hurt more people in their irrational fear. It would be a great representation of how, for instance, terfs hurt already marginalized minorities in their fear of men. This would in no way go against the already established lore, just continue the already presented themes and subversion of the usual symbolical understanding of predator and prey animals.

this might be a little unpopular but personally, I like them. given how p4 is... all over the place in terms of timeline, I'm glad we got their relatives instead of the actual p3 koppaites.

they add to the worldbuilding of koppai pretty well and they also confirm that p4 is a prequel to 3 (thank god the timeline at least got confirmed in THAT way. now fix the rest) and overall i like the lore they give for the p3 cast.

that being saidddd. i do prefer yorke and nelle. they make sense; both alph and brittany comment on their family members. don however... i feel like if don was someone else without any connection to charlie these three would've come across as less "bootleg." he kind of sticks out and doesn't really contribute much to the overall narrative which really does make his character read as existing only to reference charlie and nothing else.

but i still do like him, even if there's the least to go off for him. personally, i like to write him as being really bitter and jealous over charlie and being a really unreliable source about him. he seems to blame everything about their relationship on charlie so i just think it'd be interesting if it was projection. i mean, most of the times characters in this series complain about other characters they've got something going on (cough cough, brittany's fruit notes and olimar arguing with his damn car, cough.) so i just think it'd be interesting. i honestly ship him with charlie in an inverted way, being purely interested in how their relationship ended and how they had to learn to put up with one another as their lives remained entwined. i have a playlist for them with far too much fall out boy in it, mostly songs from infinity on high, so that should probably explain it to those who know what the fuck i'm talking about.

yorke is pretty solid. making one of alphs many siblings into a character with some degree of plot relevance is neat. given how it's established that their grandfather inspired alph it makes sense that he'd have other siblings in the same profession. iirc, he has a line (or one of them anyway) where he says that alph is better than him at the trade, which i also find pretty silly. as a younger sibling who beat their older sibling's exam results... yeah, the topic still comes up to this day. they're neat.

nelle is also again pretty neat. her being noted to not like talking about her family aligns pretty well with brittany's notes where she only elaborates on her homesickness in writing and only ever mentions her aunt. it adds another layer of depth to both of them; why don't they like to talk about family much? very interesting to speculate about. i also find their differing reactions pretty interesting. brittany despising louie and nelle essentially asking the player directly to not hate him. vets and botanists are both rooted in biology, too.

so yeah. those are my thoughts. i like them a lot, though don leaves... much to be desired. i can change that for myself by headcanoning him as a major fucking prick, though.

Regardless of the "it's hell, it shouldn't look so pleasant" peeve, I genuinely liked HB's world and wanted to see more of it. I thought each ring would sort of represent a different area demographic on earth (wrath was the rural farmland, lust was the red light district, pride was the big central city, etc.) And was honestly pretty excited to see where it went. I think it'd be really neat to see a map of each ring, what service or product its deadly sin has a monopoly over, the kinds of demons who live there, things like that. What do you think of the worldbuilding, premise wise?

Oh, I was jazzed as hell to see more of this world. There were so many directions it could have gone, so many possibilities, but just like with all the hopes I had for HH/HB, it's been disappointment after disappointment. None of it ever sticks, none of it ever matters.

I think the only bit of worldbuilding I've really liked was how it's always raining in Lust because it's underneath the ocean of Envy. And of course, that was locked away behind a paywall on Patreon.

My favorite part its that its just pure fun!! Like so enormously fun. The very worldbuilding caters to my plot preferences and I get to put any culture for any character I want and also make shit up because it's fantasy. I know this applies to a lof of others because they are mostly fantasy and I always make things do for fun but anima??? Deserves a shoutout. Just anythingggg I want

I always abbreviate this one....because the title is so silly... but it's "little red riding hood cyberpunk". It is not exactly little red riding hood nor cyberpunk tho.

My favorite part is the worldbuilding! At some point I made up a lot of factions because I knew I wanted it to be a "dystopian society is at the verge of a revolution" kind of story so I thought itd be fun if there were different groups who wanted different sorts of revolutions. I got quite a fun aesthetic tho so I like that. It's in a document I don't touch much lately (leaving this wip and a few others in the back shelf) so i dont remember every detail

This is less of a wip and more of a fun project with my friend. We were talking about bad sports (we don't like sports in general but are totally not biased, trust me) and how say, rugby is so bad it wouldn't even have an anime, which somehow turned into making a rugby anime, which we decided to make yaoi because sports anime duh, but then we thought it'd be SO cool to make it yuri instead, and then we quit rugby because we don't like rugby and chose fencing instead.

My favorite part is that since it is an Anime (or a manga...? Visual novel...? I don't know how we might do this but thats irrelevant for now) we get to play with a lot of anime archetypes and conventions and elements which isn't something I always have the opportunity to do

We have japanese names! I like naming japanese characters because I get to learn how to write them. The protagonists name, for example, is Yayoi, written as 夜宵 (night + evening) and her love interest rival is Hakui (白衣, white + clothing/coat). It was fun to decide

Totally not yayoi, similar to 'yaoi' as a callback to yuri on ice, a yaoi anime with an mc called 'yuri'

hi, this is like, a REALLY oddly specific question, but i wanted to ask. would it be seen as wrong if i were to have my character's guide dog be in some way magical?

for more context on the specific situation, my characters are in a world where basically nothing is without some level of magic to it. my character has a guide dog, but i felt like it didn't fit the theme to have just. a normal dog? because i wouldn't put a normal dog somewhere else. the dog isn't like, telepathic or able to fix her blindness, (ive made it VERY clear to myself that at no point will i do that) i was mostly thinking something like the dog having some sort of elemental component to it, which would be a pretty common power in this world.

I just wanted to make sure it fit in with the rest of the characters in its world, instead of sticking out as just kinda being shoved in with no worldbuilding around it. there wouldn't really be 'normal' animals normally, so it feels like underdeveloped worldbuilding if i don't.

I'm worried though, that this is going to be wrong in the way that it'd seem... glamorizing? that's not what i intend, but I don't want it to come off as something in that vein. if that makes sense.

i hope this is like. sensible to ask about and not wasting your time. thank you so much, and thank you in general for running this blog, i think it's a really great resource.

I think having a magical guide dog is fine. You aren’t using the magic to erase the handler’s disability, as you mentioned. As long as you are actively working on that, it seems fine to me.

As long as the animal can make a good guide, be trained from infancy, and can navigate well, it doesn’t matter if they are a magical creature.

I list some qualities a guide should have in this post if it helps.

i reread the guide linked by OP and now I'm thinking some kind of earth elemental or otherwise particularly magically heavy/stocky dog could be neat, bc it provides more stability than a regular dog (so more like a miniature horse). it could have a rocky/armored back that is easier to lean on than slippy dog skin, for example. Much like irl certain dog breeds are favored as guide dogs bc of breed specs, a magical universe could favor "earth elemental dogs" for same reason

you could have some magical component of the dog be helpful to the guided person, though i am struggling to come up with a good one for a blind guide dog. But for example a fire elemental therapy dog that can regulate it's body to be toasty warm and offer deep pressure and temperature therapy would be neat. It doesn't negate or "fix" the disability, but it's a little different/more magical while still recognizable

So I love this. An earth type dog would add excellent stabilization, orientation, and be additionally good at avoiding obstacles such as uneven ground. They could be great for balance and probably deep pressure therapy as well. Maybe they are favored as guide dogs because they are dependable, while also good at selective disobedience to keep a blind person safe, such as refusing to cross the street when it is dangerous (due to quiet cars or such). I could also see water or air type dogs being good alert dogs, perhaps.

Also not sure how common this is, but on this page about seizure alert dogs from the epilepsy foundation, it says some dogs are trained to put their body between the handler and the floor to cushion falls. Air type dogs might good at this because they are probably softer and could gently cushion a falling person without them hitting the floor.

I also had an idea that wood types might be more flexible and good assistance dogs for older adults, wheelchair users, etc. Like dog breeds, they have certain qualities that make them good at assistance, such as being depended on to retrieve any number of items, pull door handles, etc.

This is fun. I would love to see ideas from anyone else.

One Piece 1139 Talk: "Love is free!!"

I really love how they hyped Scopper Gaban this chapter so I just wanna gush about it a bit!!!!! I really like his character!!!!!!

Compared to the last chapter where I was just left fucking speechless at what was dropped on us, I surprisingly have things to say for 1139 lmao. It's not a lot, and it's not at all introspective and analytical but it's still something!

We continue from where we left off with the gang and Rodo searching for Loki's key in Aurust Castle. They found the throne room and saw a marking on the floor- and Luffy says that he's seen something similar lately.

At first I was like??? Where would he have seen something like that? But it came to me later that he probably meant Egghead, when the Five Elders were summoned. That felt like years ago and it completely slipped off my mind. Maybe he'll connect this later when they meet Shamrock later on? 🤔 Curious how that'll go btw.

Before anything else, look at these three. Romance Dawn trio my beloved. I'll take any crumbs I can get, they're so precious to me.

Then we get this guy!! Man of the week!!! Mr..... Ya!?!?

(If anyone was wondering, here Rodo calls him "Sir Ya / ヤー氏 (Ya-shi", while, as he mentions later, other giants would call him "Ya-san / ヤーさん. This mightttt be derived from his epithet on Elbaph, "Mountain Eater / Yamagurai".)

No matter how you look at him, that's Scopper Gaban; from the shape of his hair to his glasses. I just thought it was silly to have him be called something else at that moment, but, you know, I get it. The build up until that name-drop in the last page really paid off imo.

At first I was like "fym marrying a giant's not worth it" but I think he really just wants to grow old with Ripley and I find that real sweet. That and also Collun is 20 years old??? Which means that when they said Gaban's been living in Elbaph for 20 years, that's literally since Collun was born. Points in my book for me, I like this guy.

(The way Roger could've handed Ace off to either Rayleigh or Gaban and he would've turned out less hateful of his heritage and his own existence ooooh man I'm not gonna think about it *thinks about it REALLY hard*)

Whatever I thought Gaban's personality was, I didn't think it'd be anywhere close to Sanji lmao. And I love that before he introduced himself as "Scopper Gaban", we get these little hints of him as "The Pirate King's Left Hand Man" (like we already didn't know from the axe lol).

I also love this whole "Love is free" and that being mixed-race is being "open-minded" in the world of One Piece. I totally wouldn't put it past anything but I wonder if it was unacceptable at one point in history?

He mentioned Buccaneers (which is a mixed-blood race, something I totally remembered and didn't look up the wiki for), the Dosundadas (which may be a mix between something and a Tontatta?), and here the VIZ translation says "the Long Arms and Long Legs" but it's really "手足首長/Long Arms-Legs-Necks", and also the Wotans! A mix of giants and fishmen, one of which we've seen in Foxy's crew, Big Pan.

I was especially excited about the Wotan mention because that was such a one-off thing during Long Ring Long Land and I thought it might've been forgotten- but it's nice to see that little tidbit of worldbuilding come back just outta nowhere :') It's neat.

Fav part no.2, Luffy being Luffy. Welcome back Comedy Piece (it never left but this made me laugh out loud, he's so unserious)

And lastly THIS WAS!!! SO COOL!!!!!!

Even though we knew that this is Scopper Gaban, it's that build up from the giants from the feast telling Usopp and the rest about his legend, how he's this force to be reckoned with, revealing his name right on the page where Gaban himself is essentially challenging Luffy in another part of Elbaf. And then the chapter just ends!

It's not anything new but it feels so epic in every sense of the word and I could've sworn I heard boss music leading up to that last panel lmao. It's just so cool to me.

While I think next chapter's gonna open up with them trading blows (maybe), I also feel like we're due for another Shamrock appearance. And by that I mean maybe he's gonna crash the duel and meet Luffy just like that?? OR we finally get to follow up with Vivi.... It's a good time either way though, there hasn't been a moment of rest in a hot minute with this arc /pos.

Istg they brought up Sorcerer's Society a few times and never brought it up again so it feels like the entire Sorcerer's Society was created by me at this point 😭 i re-wrote a lot of lore (My MC is a heir to Sorcerer's Society and was sent to Devildom after they agreed to help Diavolo with his plans) it feels like my own original story with vaguely Obey Me themes.. tho maybe that's a good thing?

The Sorcerer's Society is definitely another part of the OM world that gets mentioned when it's convenient and ignored the rest of the time. It suffers the same way the Celestial Realm and angels do - there's no space to explore them casually because the focus is on the game's large roster of dateable characters. They're a plot device when necessary and a neglected footnote in the story the rest of the time.

Your MC's story sounds really neat! I have some WIP ideas focused around the Sorcerer's Society too:

An AU where my MC is part of the society before the exchange program starts

Headcanons about what it'd be like for an angel or demon OC to be a student there as part of the exchange program

Cross-over potential with other games I like lol Arcana Twilight has entered the chat.

And of course, my underdeveloped sorcerer OC who's taken a back seat while I hammer out the rest of my Celestial Realm/fallen angel worldbuilding. :(

There's definitely ways to tie in Solomon's unexplored backstory/history too. There's a lot of potential drama from his rise as a sorcerer and the creation of the Sorcerer's Society. Tying it all into the bits of Devildom and Celestial Realm history that's been hinted at already would be fun, like his relationship with Michael and other angels and the impact of his seven-day war with the Devildom.

Honestly, I think that's fantastic. When you put so much effort into fleshing out a world that barely exists, it becomes your own creation. (For me, The Fall is a couple Obey Me references away from being an original work too.)

Thank you! It's neat to know and kind of the assumption I'd had for a long time. In production and being written should be two different phases for a show after all. For the Amphibia outline I did earlier today, it'd mean losing an episode which.... *sigh* But yeah, I've effectively always treated it mostly like S2A was unaffected by the shortening and there are some plotlines I'm sympathetic about with that... But not by much.

Again, I've gone harder into this in the past but S2B had to mostly be the way it was for the sake of S3, full or shortened, unless S3 was DRASTICALLY different than what we got. Hunter needed to be an ally enough to go with them all into the portal so Sport in a Storm, Hollow Mind and Labyrinth Runners would have still happened. You do need to explore Belos and prepare for King's Tide with him so Hollow Mind bare minimum still needs to exist but also for Luz's angst arc, Elsewhere Elsewhen needs to exist. King being a titan needs to be confirmed so Edge of the World needs to exist. We also need to make King the most patient, kind, wisest person to exist so Titan, Where Art Thou needs to happen. And Clouds on the Horizon leads directly into the finale so while a lot of the A plot of that episode is pretty wasteful and lacks payoffs, you definitely still need to include it for where everyone is for the finale unless you alter the finale a lot. And Falls and Follies is a good recap of position and sets the stakes for Raine but... It'd pretty questionable too.

This makes the only episodes who's main plots could really be altered to a drastic degree be:

Reaching Out: Amity's relationship with her father barely pays off and frankly it'd have been almost just as jarring to have King do his conversation during Clouds on the Horizon even without this episode. Otherwise, it shoots the worldbuilding in the head and harms Lumity for the sake of double daddy issues. You also have the confirmation for Eda that The Day of Unity is bad news but no one who lives at The Owl House does anything with that. So let's of setup for effectively no payoff.

Them's the Breaks: I hate that I cannot justify this episode because it is EASILY the most of S2B but... It damages Raine's character, only really shows a potential reason why Eda gave up on the covens but the only story part is the last two minutes. You could have done ANYTHING else, like I dunno, an episode actually about Darius and Hunter/the rebel coven heads, and ended it with the Raine reveal.

That is two episodes. The fact that there are two episodes even is... OOPH, especially when Reaching Out at least has arguments but Them's the Breaks is just Dana gushing about the fanfic she wants to write for her own series. The fact that there are only two, with maybe being able to cut one of Hunter's episodes for his arc, is not good. Not unless the Day of Unity wasn't supposed to be the S2 finale.

And if it wasn't... What the fuck was the original plan?

This is a lot of why I talk about not wanting three seasons. It wanted WAY MORE. I think Dana assumed it'd be so popular and big as to have five or more. There are PLENTY of issues with that conceptually (again, S3 could never have been great) but it is the vibe the story gives. It is too redundant and too slow to be otherwise. TOH's biggest argument against being claimed as having a lot of filler is mostly in that a lot of episodes get a LITTLE done in way or another but it takes very few leaps. When it could do that, actually have a big payoff and move along, it cuts it off at the knees for the sake of 'realism'. This happened with Willow... and also fucking happened with ALADOR. IN SEASON 2B. WHY!? Why would you make a plot point specifically say more work and time will be needed when you DON'T HAVE TIME!?

Even S3 has this. In a season with THREE. EPISODES. Luz has THREE finishes to her arc. In Thanks to Them, she gets reassured by quite literally everyone that she did nothing wrong and should feel confident about her choices before she confidently prepares to head into the demon realm! Then... In show it's like five, ten minutes tops when Luz is self hating and self martyring herself again until the end of the episode has her confidently state that she wants to be understood! And with her friends and new palisman by her side, she will face the Collector!

Only to start the next episode with a dream sequence where she believes everyone fucking hates her, doesn't understand her and that she deserves to be hated. This only gets resolved when the FUCKING GOD of the show tells her she's A-Okay and she has nothing to fear. She's just too gosh darn good in order to have any reason to every doubt herself!

I'm not going to even ask why this happened. I can actually tell you mostly why because Luz is the only character besides Hunter with any character payoffs left to do. So if you want each episode to have a big character moment, Hunter can only replace one of those. They still tried to have Willow do one anyways by dredging up something that hadn't been a thing for TWO. SEASONS. But Luz was still given three different endings.

No, the bigger question to me just fucking HOW!? this sort of thing happens. This has fuck all to do with the shortening after all. Wasted time at this point, moments that mean literally and do nothing, are their choice. They are still the writers who decided to waste all this time despite claiming how much they wanted more time.

It makes it look like any potential S3 would have just been... Well, more of this. More repetition that dilutes its themes and doesn't really go anywhere. After all, if they couldn't fill three hours with actual story and pushing forward the narrative and themes... Why should we assume eight hours would have been suddenly so much better?

I didn't mean to go so hard on this. Sigh. But yeah, there's a lot of reasons why the shortening is not the excuse that people think it is. Why it honestly feels so much like a blessing to the show because people just have this go to statement to try and shut people or shut their own brains up from any issues they might have, even if those issues are self contained to a single episode.

TOH was never perfect and has flaws that run incredibly deep and start early on. No excuse will ever change those facts.

also gonna ramble a little about my crossover au I've been obsessing over for ages, since I'm working on some art for it right now...

I'm Doing It Scared though so under the cut it goes !

okay so. it's a crossover of omori, yume nikki, yume 2kki, and .flow! yay!! fucked up dreamers!!!

I'm really happy with it though because of the worldbuilding I've had to piece together using stuff from all the games, and I'd say how dream worlds work in this au is pretty neat...

anyway, since omori is the only game with a clear story, for the other 3 I just picked some themes from the games and theories I like that I thought would work well together, and I think I did a decent enough job to make Madotsuki's, Urotsuki's, and Sabitsuki's stories in this au pretty interesting!

okay now for a simple summary: it takes place after the good ending, a bit after Sunny's moved and settled in a little in his new house. Sunny could say he's doing better, but that leaves out the fact he's still struggling to reach out and open up. until one night he ends up on a balcony instead of white space.

after learning he's not the only dreamer out there, Sunny makes it his mission to find and help as many as he can! helping others like him counts as helping himself, right? (spoiler: wrong <3)

one last thing, I do eventually want to throw in more yume nikki fangames because I think it'd be even more fun. whole family of mentally ill dreamers yay <3

So what I Think a 4th trolls movie would be about and what I Want a 4th trolls movie to be about are two totally separate things so I'll just tell you both lol What I would like: Bring Barb back. please. please pl Bringing back any of the characters from world tour would be rlly cool actually. I'd also love to see more of the Funk Trolls and their future tech environment. imo I think it'd be cool if the next trolls movie leaned a little more sci-fi !! trolls in space would be a cool thing to explore. Maybe have a larger than life foe threatening their world and it could have a message about being seemingly small and insignificant but there being strength in numbers and friendship or whatever lol As for a special though, I'd love a Barb-centric spinoff or adventure with Poppy or Viva or honestly any other troll(s). But I'm biased bc she's my favorite and I think as a character has a lot of potential now that she's one of the "good guys". It would also be neat if they did a Valentines or Halloween special (it doesnt have to be those Exact holidays but something trolls-specific that's similar). What I Think they'll Actually do: An interview Walt Dohrn said that if they do end up making a trolls 4, they already have plans for "new locations and new characters", meaning I Think each trolls movie is just gonna take the main characters (literally just poppy and branch. maybe tiny for comic relief) to another place and the already beyond crowded cast of characters is just going to keep growing. Nevermind expanding on already existing lore or worldbuilding or characters, check out the new guys that we're gonna shove half the cast to the side to make room for !! I'm honestly just being bitter about this approach bc I feel like they have a Lot of stuff to work with already that they're more than likely going to ignore in favor of whatever new stuff they can cram in. I liked Brozone and Viva and Velvet and Veneer, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't a fan of how None of the characters from world tour had a role, and they even cast aside the rest of the snack pack (Smidge wasn't even in tbt and that really surprised me). In a podcast Cooper's voice actor also expressed disappointment that he wasn't going to have a real role in this movie, despite it being entirely about long lost family (something you'd think Cooper, having a long lost sibling of his own, would be a part of), and said that they called him in to do only a few lines, said they'd call him back for more, and never did. So YEAH big tldr is that idk what specifically they're going to do, but it's almost a guarantee that they're gonna clutter the movie with more characters and places instead of building on established material. also there will probably be a broppy wedding bc of course there will be.

This is overly convoluted lmao but I have a lot of ideas in general about charr and their horns from both a cultural standpoint and a visual standpoint. So here's my very disjointed stream of thoughts about charr horns :]

The different varieties of horns there are (that are, at least, shown in-game) brings a few ideas to mind for me.

Most horns there are in-game are "true" horns, (I use the term "true horn" in this context for ease of explaining because there's no actual distinction in lore between the varieties of horns charr have), being that outside of the horn is actually more or less a keratin sheath for a bone core (aka the "typical" kind of horns you'll see on ruminant animals, cattle, sheep, goats, etc. etc.). Horns like this generally grow continuously through the lifetime of an animal.

Then there are what I can only describe as antlers, I think? In real life antlers are entirely composed of bone as opposed to just a bone core.

From the choices offered in the game's character creation, antlers are evidently considerably less common among charr than actual horns. I think these are the only two options offered that fall under the criteria of antlers. (and I have absolutely no clue what in the world that red thing is supposed to be in the center of the horn of the bottom img there. like is that an eyeball??? a jewel?? huh?)

As for whether these antlers function like real-life ones, I have no clue. I don't think I've seen anything in the game that suggests that they would actually shed and grow back, but it's an interesting idea, maybe? Charr with antlers shedding every winter and then growing them back the next spring, larger, stronger, with more points than the last. It's not something I personally headcanon, but I can see it working.

And charr with "true" horns growing theirs throughout their lifetime. You'd be able to tell how old a charr is by how large or long their horns are. I've seen some NPC commentary suggest that charr don't tend to keep track of their age very well:

but this could also just be because the charr saying this is already mad old lmao. But still, maybe among charr the size of one's horns is a better indication of their age than their actual number.

I've also thought about the idea that, after death, a charr's horns are often sawed off and may be given to the deceased's warband or their cub(s). The horn is then crafted into some kind of tool or accessory, something useful, practical; the hilt of a blade, an honored drinking horn. A piece of your 'bandmate still there, helping you, protecting you. Whereas keeping a loved one's horn as a simple piece of memorabilia to mount on a wall would be frowned down upon, suggesting that you didn't really respect the charr that the horn belonged to.

Horns even being amputated while the charr is still alive, as something of a (severe) punishment within the legions. Maybe it'd be the only alternative to death within the Bane; live with the symbol of your wrong for your lifetime or die at the hands of another in combat.

I figure dehorning as a punishment would be used namely as a symbol of disgrace, but it really wouldn't be painless either (aka it'd be painful! very! and bloody because there's a ton of blood vessels in the base of horns) so maybe that's also why it'd be on the same level as the Bane in terms of punishment.

I could even see how certain varieties of horns would be more common in one legion than the other. Ash Legion having sleek horns, generally sweeping back, not intrusive, easy to conceal. Blood Legion with forward curving horns with sharpened tips, good for goring. And Iron Legion with curled, broad, wide horns, hooks and tools drilled into them.

I just really, really wish horns weren't just so glossed over in the game's lore, because as it stands it just feels like they only offer a "oh, that looks neat" factor and very little more than that. But from a worldbuilding lens they could offer much more. Horns being an effective weapon in battle. Charr settling a disagreement with one another via headbutting. Charr with an amputated horn having a false metal one in its place. Bone tools made of charr antlers.

This is all probably a super convoluted but the general idea I'm trying to get across is, you know... that it would be fun to at least have it acknowledged somewhere in the game that horns offer much more to charr culture than just visual value.

what do you mean kusanagi is christian

Continuing off of my previous post about worldbuilding that I think is kind of insane: Culturally Appropriating Legendary Swords. Do we really not have enough? (Dresden Spoilers for Death Masks)

So, the Swords of The Cross. They're cool! Really cool! I actually thought and still think they're a super cool and evocative idea. The idea that the nails used to crucify Jesus were then forged into swords for what are effectively paladins of God I think goes really fucking hard in a lot of ways. Thematically I think it manages to strike a good balance between the ideas of choice and power that people are sometimes given and how theoretically anyone could pick up a Sword*. I also think it managed to balance this idea that Abrahamic God is not just a Venerable Peace Deity. Like. The nails literally used to crucify Him/His Son were used to make weapons.

But uh...

Why's one Japanese?

More importantly why is it Kusanagi no Tachi/Tsurugi? Legendary sword of Japan that's so ridiculously important to them that there aren't even any pictures of it. It's basically kept under lock in key at all times along with the rest of the Japanese Regalia because they are items said to be passed down from their deific Kami. It makes sense why. It's like the legendary sword of all time in Japan (despite it basically just being a high-tier loot drop in the lore of the Kojiki). It gets referenced a ridiculous amount from all kinds of media, (Personally my bet is that Jim Butcher is a big Ghost in The Shell fan and he heard it from Major Kusanagi's name).

I think I know why. I think it's because Jim Butcher is a little bit of a weaboo (I was too) and just thought it'd be super sick if he had an old Japanese swordsman wielding a katana blessed by God. Because... yeah. I get it too. Rule of cool.

But. Like. That doesn't change the fact it's kind of weird that Jim Butcher made two of the Swords of the Cross, rooted in European history (Excalibur and Durendal for Michael and Sanya's Swords respectively), but not the third. Especially since, Japan is older than Christianity by a large margin. So is Kusanagi according to myth.

Logically it follows that, it existed in a state WITHOUT a Jesus nail in it for a really long fucking time before SOMEHOW it was reforged with one. How? Why??? Did Christians STEAL it? Are we to believe that tiny influx of Japanese Christians after contact with Europe somehow STOLE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ARTIFACTS TO JAPAN AS A CULTURAL ENTITY? DID THE AMERICANS STEAL IT IN THE FORTIES AFTER WORLD WAR 2?

Did whoever wield/was in possession of Kusanagi (Even though this is also insane, its also too cool to ignore), somehow meet a Knight of the Cross or someone in possession of pieces of a Sword and reforge it with Kusanagi? HOW? WHY??? Even following basic Dresden Files logic, Kusanagi would've had to have been hilariously powerful if it really was that ancient.

WHICH IS FAKE? THE SWORD OF THE CROSS OR THE ONE KEPT IN JAPAN? ONE OF THEM IS. WHICH IS IT JIM, I GOTTA KNOW.

How is a sword mythologically older than Excalibur and Durendal combined LESS COOL than one with a Jesus nail in it? Why is there no reference to the original myth that Kusanagi comes from????? It's so cool! Susanoo, a deific Kami who's mostly known for being an annoying asshole and really good at killing things, basically found it as a high-tier loot drop after slaying an 8-headed serpent from Koshi. Said serpent had eyes like winter cherries, 8 heads, 8 tails, longer than 8 hills and valleys, and had was devouring local earth spirits.

No reference to any of that in the Dresden Files even though the Kojiki had been translated for decades by that point in time. I'm actually blown away, this imagery is so fucking striking and neat, I think it would've been a perfect fit.

A shame when a writer can't/won't open themselves up to the myths they so desperately want to reference

this was my entry for this year's lone wolves week! i was only able to get 2 chapters in because i was really busy with junior thesis around this time and i had to finish writing something else for an exchange (see number 5). nevertheless, it was super fun!

on chapter 1... the first one was because the chikage gekka ssr backstage made me SICK. like. if you haven't read it. please do. i'll like the translation here. it drives me SO MAD. like the ring is so important to chikage and losing it would make him spiral SO BAD. also after i posted this my friend was like AHA I FUCKING KNEW IT SOMEONE WAS GONNA WRITE ABOUT THE RING like OKAYYY JUST BECAUSE I'M PREDICTABLE OKAY!!!

chapter 2... i like little catholic boy hisoka. that's the entire thing basically. i have no words i just think they're really really neat. :((

this was written for a little server exchange! i was spinning it around which is why i wasn't able to finish run for roses lmao.

actually, i ended up worldbuilding a lot for this fantasy world, although most of it doesn't end up in the fic itself. the way magic works in the fantasy universe is kind of how language itself works... conveying a meaning and conveying power to make it do stuff. so different people do magic differently! like tsuzuru has script but citron does it moreso via music, etc.

in this one, citron was originally from inverno (winter kingdom) but ran away to live in vesna with itaru. i have azuma as the queen of inverno if i'm not mistaken? and then... i think azami as the future king of haust? with sakyo as his guard? or something... ermm.

then sakuya is the current king of vesna after his parents died and left him the throne at a young age... with chikage being his most trusted adviser and close confidant... and also basically being in charge tbh. he does a lot of things for selfish reasons (whatever's good for him) but he's also grown to care for sakuya so he sometimes does things for him... but he'll never admit it... august was the king's guard and then chikage was the knight's commander... something something very trusted. i'm sick. i love this au.

and mordred too has that... there's this balance between the guy who genuinely just wants to do good and the guy who wants to prove himself. which, of course, are not mutually exclusive, but especially younger,,, mordred is so lawful neutral, you know?

i'm gonna be real, i wrote this up in like an hour on a whim. this is based on the makg au which is based on that one dollhouse set featuring azuma and muku on the cg.

the fic says no context but i'm here to provide some context as a treat! the important context is that there's a gallery with wax statues, each with a nameplate on it alnd protected by a glass case. the statues are of the mankai members (and other side charas like godza, sakoda, mizuno, etc). the characters in the dollhouse event have been turned into porcelain dolls (azuma, hisoka, yuki, banri, and itaru), and the goal is for the other still-human characters to become dolls too. to be pretty and loved. so some characters (including juza) have been partially turned porcelain (dollified) in some body horror shit. the parts that have been turned porcelain on a person also become porcelain on the wax statue. doll meter.

this was a comm for my friend lyric which featured the funniest message ever: "but i am very different from banri so i could never really figure it out. i thought u would be the person to turn to for it!" LIKE. OKAY. ABAC I GUESS (ASSIGNED BANRI AT COMMISSION).

while i was outlining this fic in my head i was actually mumbling to myself about what happens as i was walking to uni campus. so random people walked by me hearing mumble shit like "and then banri goes god fucking damn it nanao taichi you fucking idiot" because he IS.

there's a deleted scene from this one where taichi actually gets a fever from overwork and banri looks after him while also calling him stupid and not understanding how you could possibly work so hard that you physically get sick. me too, oomf. banri gets complimented for working hard and literally cannot wrap his head around how to respond to it so he just goes nah and deflects. u just like me fr. maybe this is why lyric commed me.

also, i was writing this around the time the haikyuu movie came out, so i got to watch it! kenhina as my chara study for bantai (unironic).

in my head they used to live in the same small town. sakuya's got relatives there so he was there for a while. they got together and cared each other very much. they were each other's first... a lot of things. they ended up breaking things off when sakuya had to leave because they weren't. like. long distance wasn't good for them. but they still care each other.

i think after this fic they hang out a lot. reconnect. they both are in tokyo for the long haul... they can try again. right person, wrong time, but now it could be the right time. idk. i like sakushu.

also i hadn't finished playing p5r when i posted this, i think i was literally only like up to like. 3rd palace? or so? so i was very worried about writing akiren and that's why he has like 4 lines LMAO but i was very mentally ill about akiren since the moment i laid my eyes on his stupid catboy face <3

the fuck you mean this is only fic 20 out of 30. did i really write that many in the last 3 months of the year. christ. okay anyway.

so i finished p5r in august and er. basically went crazy. now my head is full of p5r. (i also finished p4g in 2024, though i haven't written any p4 fics. the p1 manga as well!)

the idea for this one came to me in a burst of inspiration in the middle of me rambling about one of the 749832742 aus i have come up with to ruin akiren's life. guess my favorite p5r character. i dare you.

this fic is for a specific interpretation of ren's parents. i don't actually have one solid hc for how i think his parents are like, so i just do whatever fits the vibe. there's something here about how his parents are like... highschool sweethearts who had a kid they weren't ready for... so they got married but it strained their relationship with each other and with the child. yknow?

also, yeah. the title is literally aishite x3. so, yknow. thematic.

i also made it a point in the end note that arsene isn't in joker's mask because OURGH there's something about what that means symbolically that makes me unwell.

so i'm like. half a psych major. and basically i was trying to come up with what a lot of the persona game mechanics mean in terms of psych concepts. so like, for example, tv dungeons are manifestations of psyches where the id is repressed too much, while palaces are manifestations of psyches where the id is not controlled and allowed to just run wild, that kind of thing.

i explain this in the end notes of the fic, but basically i think there's two routes for call of chaos if it hypothetically just allows your instinct to do whatever: thanatos (anger, destruction) or eros (horny).

also really funny because like i think a few weeks later someone posted an akeshu fic where akechi uses call of chaos on himself and then gets horny or something? i was like welp. that's freud for ya!

anyway i was talking to quill about how call of chaos works. because the initial thought was actually "i sure hope akechi doesn't get permanent brain damage from fucking up his brain chemicals so much." and then quill points out, that's kind of addiction bait. and then i was like HMMM. INTERESTING.

so in this fic it manifests in alcoholism because alcohol tends to reduce inhibitions the same way call of chaos does (although it's a depressant. LISTEN DON'T QUOTE ME ON THIS I'M NOT A MED STUDENT.) also because i love giving random charas drinking problems. and smoking problems. yippee!

anyway the funniest part is that i was writing this in the middle of my industrial/organizational psych class. lmao

Coming Up Aces

akiren-centric, post-canon, 5+1

this is actually. basically the first fic i had in mind after finished p5r. because i'd been reading p5 fics and akiren's life fuckin SUCKSSSSS after canon. which is perfectly reasonable to assume and i think is probably true.

but also. he's my baby. so i wanted to give him some nice things. hence, this fic. just... something about how much he's grown and changed as a person in the year that p5r takes place. all the things he's learned from all the people he's met.

it's something like, he's changed so much and all his stats are at 5 now. but he's always been just. justice, as a central theme to p5. yk.

this is also written with like. very, very background shuake. like, i think it's most evident if you read the erudite section. because the essay he writes and submits is... basically about akechi. there's so much background shit in my head about this fic but it all tastes like akechi. is akechi dead in this one? err, who knows? i don't know.

actually, that part was my favorite to write, drawing from some stuff i learned in my own jpn lit class. the heike monogatari is like an account of the genpei war. minamoto no yoshitsune (same yoshitsune as in the game, yeah) was one of the great heroes who fought against the taira clan alongside his brother, yoritomo. but as the story goes, yoritomo was the reason yoshitsune died - betrayal.

yoshitsune is a tragic hero in japanese literature. maybe THE tragic hero ever. and so we get these kinds of notions of japanense heroism:

aside from that, there's something in there about how akiren recites more in class because he's looking for someone to debate with like he did with akechi or even makoto sometimes, but no one really engages him the same way unless its like the teachers doing presentation discussions and shit. also, sato mentions that the class is doing sengoku period next. which is a funny reference that is also akechi-coded because haha akechi mitsuhide.

in my head like. the history and literature classes are connected, and typically study the same period at around the same time. so both just finished heian/kamakura, and are moving onto muromachi period.

i love all the stupid cringefail npcs i've created for this fic. i have so, so, so much to say about it. akiren's got a mini confidant with both hiroki and sato. also, katsumi and ennis from harugaoka quartet get namedropped, and itsuko in part 5 is named after my extended uraomote universe homare, who is kondo's wife.

also, fun fact. i... submitted the lit review for my thesis late because i was writing this instead. anyway.

this one was written for the mankai charity zine! oh BOY i have words about this au. this was one of the aus i pitched, along with devil's gambit and fmab... silly. anyway.

most of the background au stuff of this au is in the little accompaniment pdf of the mancha zine, so actually, you should read that! but generally, the premise is more or less that acts of violence create monsters - like, literal shadow creature stuff. in the series, there’s 3 types of monsters, based on how horrific your violence was, but in the fic, i only included the coolest one: the sunai (what shiffy is).

theres like a future scene in my head where like after azami kills someone for the first time, intentional or otherwise - and this is after he and shifuto start to become friends - shifuto sees him and knows something is different and. "oh, azami... what have you done...?"

hmm i have a spinoff au of this that's not othe same universe because that one is manknai compliant and features itaru, tsumugi, juza, and homare as monster abominations (and sakyo.) kiketsu au my beloved... i'm happy to talk about that one too tho!

yeah so this happened. sumire is so gekkagumi. she's so forgetting who you are and living as someone else. she's so struggling to move on and move past what happened. she's so it should have been you why did you leave me here. you can't hate her enough to hurt because you'll never hate her as much as she hates herself.

and so i wrote sumire risky game.

this started because, as i usually do, i was assigning charas of my most recent interest (p5r) to a3 plays. and then shusumi mentioned, and then i was like, ohhh, it'd be so fucked up if risky game.

the other cast are akechi as ledley because it'd be so funny and i wanted to make him say the little chicks line, haru as eda because thematically appropriate, ryuji as oliver because... i mean yeah. and then makoto and nicolette (dominic) because i just think it's so funny to make her play a little spoiled rich boy.

in this au, it's basically all of the phantom thieves in a theater troupe. they're putting on risky game right now, and it follows the plot of the risky game event story, etc etc. there's just something about it. they made wadakuma play catherine in the esute risge stage and i was like oh my fucking god.

it's mentioned in the fic that kasumi was a gymnast and sumire is an actor. basically like. kasumi and sumire's career paths diverged when they were younger, sumire goes into acting a la yumi p4 and kasumi continues with gymnastics. the year kasumi dies, sumire "lives as her" (though not literally, since no persona au). so she goes back to like gymnastics and all that to try and keep kasumis memory alive, but yk she kinda ass at it. she's super out of practice and she has no love for it aside from a misguided sense of keeping her sister's spirit alive. theres a line in the grave scene where sumire says shes been keeping up acting the past 2 years. that includes the year she was acting as kasumi.

i don't have any experience writing play scripts, so i just kind of copied oomf's from the times he's asked me to check his.

i will not start rambling about risky game and norman, but just know that it's SO FUCKED UP. god. it's so fucked up. they make me so upset.

i didn't realize that this is actually my second color-based soulmate au fic. i'm typically a soulmark, names sort of girlie. anyway. this fic was for a persona winter exchange that i joined.

actually, it was supposed to be a different fic. i have that other fic plotted out, but i wasn't able to finish it because it's quite. long. and dramatic. and plot heavy. but it's vampires + soulmates + royalty. something about akechi being a vampire prince being betrothed to akiren the human prince and then... they're soulmates...? but vampires don't have soulmates.................. wow that's so weird. anyway, i'll post that fic one day.

until then, burning red! the title is from red by taylor swift (sorry) but like i think it's very. yeah. losing him was blue like i've never known... missing him was dark gray all alone... forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met...

umm. the colors are fading because akiren genuinely believes that akechi's dead. but they won't ever go away for real while akechi is still alive. soulmates tied not only to cosmic power but also persona perception. cognition. very p5.

the part about robin hood using samarecarm to heal akechi and save him after shido's palace is also ... yeah. quill's hc is that's how it happened and i was like omg real. so true.

i'm gonna be honest, i'm personally of the belief that akechi should stay dead at the end of p5r (thematically), but also i will not complain because i love making akechi alive.

this one's for the a3 holiday exchange! it's tsuzumizu but actually, mizuno isn't there. i wanted to write something about tsuzuru looking for a christmas gift for mizuno, but with a spin on the whole, "just write him a play!" because... y'know, i feel like he would. of course. think of that. that's his default, actually. and what better person to ask than mr. gift giving himself, itaru chigasaki?

i actually wrote this while i was on vacation lmao. on my shitty ahh phone. the screen is glitching so it gets hard to write fics on there, but. yeah! and it's up~ also, gratuitous annoying itaru. i love annoying itaru.
