New AU thingy
I never do crossover AUs ( i mean, when the characters fill the roles of the characters of a serie or film, I don't like that generally but meh I'm making an exception today)
But Secret of Kells has me on a chokehold and I'm brainrotting so have some doodles !
I've got nothing much for this AU it'll be mostly designs or style experimentations with the WH characters
Tumblr media
Here we have : Wally as Brendan, Home as Abbot Cellach, Julie as Aisling, and Nyxie as the cat
Tumblr media
I'll assign more roles eventually
If you've never heard of this film before, I beg of you to give it a watch
It's in full on YouTube, but if you can find a way to watch it in a way that support the studio making those films, please do ! This film, as well as the others ( Song of the Sea, Breadwinner, Wolfwalkers ) are so so beautifully animated and written
Rn I'm just having fun doodling in colors
.
.
.
.
.
Ik new WH AUs aren't that interesting anymore so for your troubles have a doodle of my lil SunEmbrodery ship (not canon to wttmv because doomed by plot (who doesn't like doomed yuri/j))

french girls kuroo tetsurō x artist!fem!reader (fluff) synopsis: you get kuroo to sketch you word count: 1.1k warnings: kissing, lots of romantic love
masterlist
"draw me like one of your french girls, tetsurō," you lean your head over the edge of the bed, your eyes meeting the top of his head.
he looks up from his phone, his eyes meeting yours. the slightly amber colored hues darkening from his hair shadowing the light. tetsurō blinks a couple times while staring at you blankly. for the first time ever, he was completely and utterly dumbfounded. "w-what?" he questions, narrowing his eyebrows.
"it'll be fun, you draw me, i draw you," you offer, flipping over so you could lay on your stomach. a light twinkle reflecting in your eyes.
tetsurō shakes his head, a smile wide upon his face, "i can't even draw, y/n, you know that. you're like way better, it wouldn't even be fair."
you cross your arms in front of you, leaning on them. an eyebrow raises on your face, a small smirk playing along your lips, "really? are you scared or something? is tetsurō kuroo scared? scared of losing to moi in something that is not even a competition?"
"i'm not scared," tetsurō starts, leaning forward so that his body is leaning against the bed. his nose is inches from yours, his hair lightly tickling your forehead. "i'm not scared... i'll show you why, hand me a paper thou madam!"
you smile, your teeth showing a little. in a second, you're holding a notebook and a mechanical pencil. the pencil waves a little in your fingers as you hand them over. tetsurō begrudgingly grabs it from you, tapping the eraser from his chin before starting his beautiful masterpiece. the pencil glides behind the notepad, his tongue sticking out a little as he concentrates.
it's not that you really wanted the two of you to have a drawing competition. you just wanted a drawing from him, a sketch of something. he always loved giving you handmade gifts (most of the time very poorly made, the man is a scientist not a stitcher). he had just always pushed away from drawing, sketching.
you never cared if it was well made, you just wanted to see him try. make you his muse because you know damn straight he's yours. the way he sits, folding his legs a little so he's facing you. the way he looks at the sky and calls it beautiful when he's the most beautiful thing in sight... it's hard for you to think of anything else when painting.
as tetsurō looks up from the paper, eyes meeting yours once again, you notice a small glint. a shine pulling through and making its way to you. you're his muse. it's clear now, because those stars in his eyes only shine for you. when he notices you staring, he raises an eyebrow, a playful smirk showing up.
"yes, m'lady?" he sets down the notepad, setting his pencil on top of it. his arms wrap around his knees, one hand reaching for yours.
you grab his hand, shrugging your shoulders, unsure how to explain it to him. "i just love you, you know that right? you're... well you're just unbelievably amazing. i can't believe you're dating me," you shy away from his eyes, your heart racing through your chest.
he scoots towards you, his thumb running along the back of your hand. tetsurō takes his other hand and rests it against your chin, "of course i know that, because i love you too."
he helps lead your head down to his, his lips resting against yours. tetsurō has always had a sweet taste to him, similarly to a morning pastry. you close your eyes and let your hands rest on his neck. he pulls you in a little closer, his fingers tangling through your hair as he craves your essence even more.
when tetsurō leans back for a breath, his forehead rests against yours. his breath running along your lips and causing you to breath in his sweet aroma. "i wanna say you're unbelievably amazing too, but i think that would be repetitive. how about, you're perfectly mine? breathtakingly beautiful? amazingly good at art, like way too good."
"yeah, no, all of those work," you wanna pull him in for another kiss; however, a small laugh can't help but bubble out after your words.
he smiles to himself, loving the sound of your laugh maybe even more than the sound of your voice. "now, how's the art going?" your eyes widen a little, your smile becoming wide.
tetsurō gives you a cringe-filled look, grabbing the small notepad and handing it off to you. you give it a once over, noticing the fact that it's not perfect. it's a little sloppy, but you can't help but notice that he got your smile right. making it bright and beautifully unforgettable.
you look back at him, setting down the notepad, and pulling his face back to yours. you give him a few quick kisses, smiling into each and every one of them, "it's amazing tetsurō," you scrunch up your nose, your cheeks running hot with amusement.
"you're just saying that y/n, i know it, you know it," a faint blush makes its way across his face. his hands feeling hot as they hold onto yours.
a sigh escapes you, your head shaking with a vengeful spirit. "no, because you made it. tetsurō, as long as you put love into it, i'll always love it," you take another look at the drawing, suddenly having the energy to rip it from the pad.
you let go of tetsurō's hands; you getting up and taking the drawing to your cork board. with a smile, you grab a pin and stick it to the cork board. it sits with the rest of your paintings and projects that you kept for yourself. it sits perfectly within the group, highlighting that your art isn't the only art that you so gratefully appreciate.
"see, now i plan on showing it to anyone who inquired," you turn back to him, your hands resting on the tops of your hips. he shakes his head while making his way to his feet.
tetsurō bites his lip, taking a couple steps towards you and wrapping his arms around your torso. he keeps his head leaning back, your noses nearly touching. his hair leans forward to the point where it's touching your forehead and he lets out a sigh of relief. for a second, his mouth stays open, unsure how to respond, "... god i love you so much."
"do you now?" you question, raising an eyebrow. you shake your head as well, "i love you too. i love you so much."

The Cauldron Born
by Damh the Bard
We can do no better than start our show with Damh singing us in with his song about the Goddess that stirs the cauldron of Awen or inspiration. She is central to the story of Taliesin - possibly the greatest bard - and Damh's song reminds us that in search for inspiration we are all "the Cauldron Born".
You can find out more about Damh on his website at Pagan Music or on our Contributor Page.
Samhain: the Lowering of the Veil
by Jennifer Emick
Often controversial, Jennifer Emick has kindly written a fascinating piece about Samhain traditions for us. Jennifer Emick is an artist, writer, and religious educator. She has promoted religious understanding in the internet community for over a decade. She is the About.com Guide to Alternative Religions, the most popular source for Celtic spiritual symbolism on the internet. Ms. Emick lives in the San Francisco Bay area.
She is also the Author of The Everything Celtic Wisdom Book which you can find on Amazon which looks at Irish, Scottish, and Welsh traditions. See her Contributor Page for more details.
  Realm of the Free
by Cindy Spear & Colin Mold
Cindy Spear Cindy has written another amazing poem that has been set to music by Colin Mold called "The Realm of the Free". To find out more about Cindy Spear go to her website or visit her Contributor Page.
Colin Mold Colin is a talented musician who not only plays the band Karnataka in the UK, performs as a session musician and has two solo albums to his name. His latest project is a forth-coming album, Girl On the Castle Steps, on which will you will also hear this track as well as another one with lyrics written by Cindy called Green and Gold. Find out more about Colin on his website or on his Contributor Page.
Visions and Beliefs in the West of Ireland
By Lady Augusta Gregory
Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory (15 March 1852 – 22 May 1932), born Isabella Augusta Persse, was an Irish dramatist and folklorist. With William Butler Yeats and Edward Martyn, she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre, and wrote numerous short works for both companies. Lady Gregory produced a number of books of retellings of stories taken from Irish mythology. Born into a class that identified closely with British rule, her conversion to cultural nationalism, as evidenced by her writings, was emblematic of many of the political struggles to occur in Ireland during her lifetime. Lady Gregory is mainly remembered for her work behind the Irish Literary Revival. [Wiki]
She said:
"The Sidhe cannot make themselves visible to all. They are shape-changers; they can grow small or grow large, they can take what shape they choose; they appear as men or women wearing clothes of many colours, of today or of some old forgotten fashion, or they are seen as bird or beast, or as a barrel or a flock of wool. ..... There are two races among the Sidhe. One is tall and handsome, gay, and given to jesting and to playing pranks, leading us astray in the fields, giving gold that turns to withered leaves or to dust. These ride on horses through the night-time in large companies and troops, or ride in coaches, laughing and decked with flowers and fine clothes. The people of the other race are small, malicious, wide-bellied, carrying before them a bag. When a man or woman is about to die, a woman of the Sidhe will sometimes cry for a warning, keening and making lamentation. At the hour of death fighting may be heard in the air or about the house-that is, when the man in danger has friends among the shadows, who are fighting on his behalf. ....
This is the news I have been given of the people of the Sidhe by many who have seen them and some who have known their power.
A.G.
The full text can be found on Sacred Texts at Sacred Texts.
  She is Crone
by Kellianna
Kellianna is an American pagan artist internationally performing song and chant inspired by myth, magic, sacred places and ancient times. With guitar and vocals she brings to life the stories and sagas of the Gods and Goddesses. With frame drum and chant she honors the Earth and the Ancestors via primal drumming and powerful vocals.
This track, the incredibly powerful summoning of the Crone, is from her latest album "Elemental" - well worth checking out.  You can find out more about this enchantress on her website or on our Contributor Page.
Samhain Story & Forget Me Not
by Chris Joliffe
Astoundingly, Chris is an undiscovered talent - that is, until now! This amazing bard has given us permission to use some of his amazing stories and poems in the show and we're sure that you'll love them just as much as we do.
In this show, you can hears his short poem Forget Me Not and his mythically-rich story, Samhain Story. We hope to bring you much more of Chris in the future and in the meantime check out his Contributor Page to find out a little more about him.
  The Cheshire Souling Song
by Kate Fkletcher & Corwen Broch
Kate and Corwen are more than just folk musicians. They are also instrument makers and workshop leaders who perform folk music and drama, recreate Ancient music and instruments, make crafts, run workshops for schools and demonstrate at museums and other events. In some ways, they have become folk music's scientists in that their research is delving deep into the past to discover the songs (one of Kate's specialities I believe) and the instruments (definitely one of Corwen's!) of the past. We've seen Corwen demonstrate an ancient lyre on YouTube! Hold on, let's see if I can find it...
youtube
You'll find the link to their YouTube channel on their Contributor Page and it really is worth listening to more of their music and finding out about some of the instruments used by the Celts and how they sounded! I think one of the most amazing things I've read about them is on their website where it says: Never afraid to sing all the verses of a long ballad, or play newly composed material on long forgotten instruments, our music has been described as 'hypno/folk'. We aim to make music that their ancestors would understand and appreciate. You can find out more about Kate & Corwen on their website at Ancient Music.co.uk or on their Contributor Page.
The Shores of Wales
by Kray Van Kirk
"I have a different approach now to writing and performing music. I no longer record CDs, as I want to reduce the waste headed to our landfills, and I don't charge money for my songs as a deliberate movement away from the bottom line that seems to govern so much of our daily lives. So I keep writing my songs, and I sing them when I play a show, and I give them away to anyone who wants them. My graduate work takes me to interesting places on rather short notice sometimes, and I try to plan concerts around that travel, although the short notice can make it difficult."
About this track, The Shores of Wales, he says: "Every time I play this, someone comes up to me almost frantic to hear what finally happened in the story. I don't think there's a real answer- the beach is empty, the horse is alone, and William rides still. I do like the Faerie King, though- although he is careless of William's fate and casually cruel, he also lays his own soul on the line when challenged."
Find out more about Kray on his website or his Contributor Page.

This Week in Content Marketing: Marketing Associations to Blame Publishers for Allowing Bad Ads
PNR: This Old Marketing with Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose can be found on both iTunes and Stitcher. If you enjoy our show, we would love it if you would rate it or post a review on iTunes.
In this week’s episode
This week, Robert ponders how we compare ourselves to others. In the news, we talk about a new initiative from three marketing associations that puts the blame for bad online advertising directly on the shoulders of publishers. We also discuss media companies’ rankings for brand loyalty – though these aren’t the media companies you’re looking for. Our rants and raves include Nielsen’s bid at measuring Netflix, and what we can learn from one-hit wonders; then we wrap up with an example of the week on the “Gary Vaynerchuk” of sustainable farming.

(05:45): Welcome to Episode 206: Recorded live on October 23, 2017 (Running time: 1:05:58)
(11:38): Content Marketing Master Classes – Our multi-city tour is returning for another round of in-depth content marketing training. Starting on November 6, we’ll be making stops in Boston; New York; Washington, DC; Seattle; San Francisco; Chicago; Atlanta; and Austin, Texas. Robert and I would love to see you there, so register today.
Content love from our sponsor: Ahrefs (12:38)
Ahrefs is a powerful SEO tool set that has many amazing tools for content marketers who’re looking to grow their traffic from Google. With Ahrefs tools you can easily find out what people are searching for in Google, so you can create content around the most popular search queries. You can also discover content that got the most shares or earned the most backlinks, so you can piggyback from it and get the same results. And finally, you can easily research your competitors and find out which content brings them the most traffic from Google. Here’s an exclusive opportunity for PNR podcast listeners: Any listener who tweets using #ThisOldMarketing between the dates of September 30 through October 28 will be entered into a drawing to win an annual Ahrefs account plus a signed copy of Joe and Robert’s new book, Killing Marketing. One randomly selected participant will be drawn each week; four winners in total.

Today’s buying committees are diverse; Millennials are already taking their seats among Generation X and Baby Boomers at the buying table, making navigating the already complicated buying environment even harder, thanks to their different preferences. Though this shift might seem minor, it greatly impacts how marketing teams operate, sales teams engage, and how purchase decisions are ultimately made.
SnapApp and Heinz Marketing recently conducted research to answer the question: How do different generations like to buy? Their report, “The Millennials Are Here! How Generational Differences Impact B2B Buying Committees Today” looks at the differences between the rising Millennial buyer, their Generation X and Baby Boomer counterparts, and how B2B marketing and sales strategies can address the gaps between them. Read the report.
Rants and raves
(44:02): Robert’s commentary: Nielsen is poised to start measuring the viewing audience of TV shows on Netflix. According to TechCrunch, the company’s new Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) Content Ratings Service will base its measurements on panel surveys, comparable to how it estimates linear TV ratings. While Robert understands why Nielsen is looking at this audience, he feels they are going about it all wrong.
(48:36): Robert’s rave: Adweek profiles a new Burger King ad about tackling bullying that Robert simply loves. It’s feel-good advertising that handles the discussion of social issues in an elegant and effective way.
(50:50): Joe’s rave: James Altucher‘s podcast is a regular listen for me. The latest episode, featuring singer-songwriter Mike Posner, is a particularly interesting one for a few reasons, including his discussions on updating his older content, and a process he uses, which I would call an influencer marketing strategy.
This Old Marketing example of the week
(56:40): Polyface Farms: A reader recently referred Robert to the story of Joel Salatin, a second-generation farmer in Virginia who grew up watching his parents struggle to maintain their family farm. Though the Salatin Family had already started to explore organic farming and more humane farm animal practices at Polyface Farms, they were finding it even more difficult to turn a profit while using these techniques. However, once Joel took over the business, he committed himself to taking these practices to the next level, while increasing the farm’s profitability at the same time. He started by answering questions and offering advice to his fellow farmers to increase their understanding of the benefits of greener, more sustainable farm operations, and the idea quickly took off. Eventually, he turned his education platform into books, lectures, and other published content works. Years later, Joel Salatin is one of the most famous and successful farmers in the world, with a content portfolio that includes live tour experiences at his farm, as well as recipe of the week competitions, and other user-generated content initiatives. By creating a media brand to drive the success of his sustainable farming business, Joel has built Polyface Farms into a quintessential Content Inc.-style example of This Old Marketing. This Week in Content Marketing: Mercedes Launches Revenue-Based Content Model
PNR: This Old Marketing with Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose can be found on both iTunes and Stitcher. If you enjoy our show, we would love it if you would rate it or post a review on iTunes.
In this week’s episode
This week, Robert ponders how we prepare for what’s next. We discuss the Brandwatch/BuzzSumo acquisition and Snapchat’s new location-based services. Mercedes launches its own “killing marketing” model for its integrated content brands, and one article format rises above them all. Our rants and raves include a new marketing model and transparency; then we close with an example of the week from Alcoa.

Though this shift might seem minor, it greatly impacts how marketing teams operate, sales teams engage, and how purchase decisions are ultimately made.

Rants and raves
(54:12): Robert’s rave: An article in Econsultancy features insights that could have come straight from a page in Killing Marketing. The author does a wonderful job of breaking down the details of the modern marketing model, and Robert wholly recommends it as a great read for all marketers.
(57:33): Joe’s rant-and-rave: The author of this article from The Ringer seems to think Silicon Valley’s tech industry has discovered a new marketing discipline – one that lies between traditional journalism and sponsored content. Though I find it annoying that the article stops short of calling the technique content marketing – and treats it as if it’s a brand-new invention – I really enjoyed reading the piece, for a few key reasons.
This Old Marketing example of the week
(1:09:25): Alcoa presents One Step Beyond: We’ve talked about the folks at Alcoa Aluminum in past PNR podcasts, and they even made a cameo appearance in our Content Marketing Workshop because they were the inventors of the term “Imagineering,” as well as the creators of the first aluminum beer can and the “pop-top.” But, as we are leading up to Halloween, Robert wanted to share the story of a TV show the company created and sponsored, called One Step Beyond. Debuting in 1959, the show presented “real” stories of the supernatural – such as people’s encounters with UFOs and legendary monsters like Bigfoot – with dramatizations of actual events. The show ran for two years and featured tons of guest stars, making it a fascinating This Old Marketing example of a company that created compelling sponsored content as a way to promote its brand.

This Week in Content Marketing: Is Google’s Subscription Gift to Publishers a Trojan Horse?
PNR: This Old Marketing with Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose can be found on both iTunes and Stitcher. If you enjoy our show, we would love it if you would rate it or post a review on iTunes.
In this week’s episode
This week, Robert ponders spurts of success. In the news, we discuss Google’s olive branch to publishers (and why it may not mean what we think it means), Amazon’s blitz on the advertising business, and Blue Apron’s decision to double-down on podcasting. Our rants and raves include Lloyds Bank’s big bet on content marketing and Amazon’s cautionary tale on business models; then we close the show with an example of the week on The Points Guy.

The deep dive – Industry analysis
(34:40): Blue Apron launches a new branded podcast, Why We Eat What We Eat. (Source: Fast Company)
Content love from our show sponsor: SnapApp (39:51)
Today’s buying committees are diverse: Millennials are already taking their seats among Generation X and Baby Boomers at the buying table, making navigating the already complicated buying environment even harder, thanks to their different preferences.
(43:51): Robert’s rave: Robert issues a rare bit of praise for The Drum, for its insightful coverage of Lloyds Banking Group’s announcement that it is shifting away from product marketing to focus on how-to content. The decision came as a direct result of the company’s work to prepare for compliance with the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which will go into effect in Europe in May 2018. As Robert has repeatedly said, delivering marketing content that is valuable to the customer is an obvious alternative to firms like Lloyds having to scrap their marketing programs altogether.
(47:30): Joe’s commentary No. 1: I consider this Seth Godin blog post to be perfectly timed, as I’ve noticed lately just how many people walk around with their heads buried in social media – and how the constant distraction seems to be fueling a general decrease in their happiness. I urge anyone who feels that their social media consumption is decreasing their satisfaction with life to follow Seth’s simple solution: Walk away (even if it’s just for a little while).
(51:32): Joe’s commentary No. 2: As discussed in this article from The Street, Amazon is poised to announce very soon whether it will move into the pharmaceutical sales business. The rumors alone are sending ripples through Wall Street, and have companies like Walgreens and CVS scrambling to prepare for the potential impact this unexpected disruption might have on their businesses. The lesson here is that, regardless of the industry you are in, it’s a good idea to do a content audit and full competitive analysis, so that when new competitors emerge, it won’t catch you unaware.
This Old Marketing example of the week
(54:54): The Points Guy: Though he’s been a subscriber for a while, a wonderful article in Tearsheet tipped Robert off to the story of how The Points Guy (TPG) became the finance industry’s best content marketing channel. The blog was started by a former Morgan Stanley recruiter who was flying all over the country, looking for new talent, and wanted to share some tips he learned on how other travelers could optimize their use of frequent flyer memberships and other points-based rewards cards. After achieving initial success, TPG then started expanding into other content programs that could educate banks on how to better communicate the value that they offer to their customers. The founder eventually sold the TPG platform to Bankrate – a financial services comparison site. And here’s where the story takes a fascinating, Killing Marketing-esque turn: In July 2017, Bankrate was acquired by a data, advertising, and creative services agency called Red Ventures, which specializes in home finance and healthcare services. Red Ventures was already known for its amazing access to content platforms through distribution; and now that it has direct access to Bankrate’s content and data platform (including TPG), it is able to offer a complete suite of audience data and media services. It’s an amazing This Old Marketing example of how to create a direct relationship with audiences while monetizing your content platform to support your business.

Content love from our show sponsor: SnapApp (39:51)
Today’s buying committees are diverse: Millennials are already taking their seats among Generation X and Baby Boomers at the buying table, making navigating the already complicated buying environment even harder, thanks to their different preferences.
This Week in Content Marketing: Google and Amazon Prepare for Internet War
PNR: This Old Marketing with Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose can be found on both iTunes and Stitcher. If you enjoy our show, we would love it if you would rate it or post a review on iTunes.
In this week’s episode
This week, Robert ponders the nature of our personal power – and how we should choose to wield it. In the news, we discuss the week that was Advertising Week. Google and Amazon begin the war to end all wars, while Twitter is wasting everyone’s time by going to 280 characters. Our rants and raves include Time’s new membership model and Nielsen ratings; then we wrap up with an example of the week on the Chagrin Falls Film Festival.

Read the report.
Rants and raves
(45:50): Joe’s rave No. 1: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is the hottest video game of 2017 – and it isn’t even finished being developed yet. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Hunger Games-like title has spent no money on marketing; but the demo version of the game, which the company updates every day based on tester comments and critiques, has drawn enough attention to get the pre-release sales flowing. It’s like a Content Inc. model unfolding in real time, letting the audience dictate the product to be built.
(49:42): Joe’s rave No. 2: I also wanted to call attention to Time Inc.’s newest launch: its People Perks paid membership program. As per Folio: The program represents the publisher’s latest push to reduce its dependence on advertising revenue. I don’t know if it will work, but I applaud the effort.
(50:58): Robert’s “note”: A few episodes back, Robert raved about a new book, Get Serious About Editorial Management for Business to Business Media Professionals. Author Howard Rauch heard the glowing critique and wanted to let PNR listeners know it will be available on Amazon for a discounted price, for a limited time.
(52:07): Robert’s correction: Last week, Robert shared a rant, in which he said the number of panelists in a sample of Nielsen’s Portable People Meter survey of television viewers was 6,200. However, Robert misread the source article, which actually reported that the sample size had increased by 6,200, for a total of 26,000 viewers. (Source: Video Advertising Bureau).
(55:00): Robert’s commentary: Following on that discussion of audience measurement from last week’s show, Robert found a wonderful article in MediaPost that put the issue into perspective for him. The findings cited in the article make a great business case for using an owned audience as a people-based panel, which can confirm what the data companies use to make their media-buying decisions.
This Old Marketing example of the week
(58:46): Chagrin Falls Film Festival: This week, I wanted to share a homegrown story of how a woman turned her small town into a magnet for movie fans and filmmakers around the world. Chagrin Falls Film Festival founder Mary Ann Ponce wanted to do something to draw visitors to her small town in the Cleveland area. According to a profile article on Cleveland.com, Ponce became inspired by the filmmaking experiences of her son – who had been a film student, before he passed away from leukemia – to build a festival around sharing the small, passion-driven stories that other festivals overlooked. The annual event first launched 8 years ago with an attendance rate of 1,800 viewers; but thanks to Ponce’s drive – and a supportive community of over 200 local volunteers – last year’s festival attracted over 10,000 people. In Ponce’s words, the festival is all about taking something positive and turning it into something bigger – a concept embodied by one of the films being featured this year: Knife Skills tells the story of a Shaker Square eatery that has earned national acclaim for its food and its staff, which consists almost entirely of men and women just out of prison. It’s a wonderful This Old Marketing example of how to build a live event from meaningful stories.

Today’s buying committees are diverse: Millennials are already taking their seats among Generation X and Baby Boomers at the buying table, making navigating the already complicated buying environment even harder, thanks to their different preferences. Though this shift might seem minor, it greatly impacts how marketing teams operate, sales teams engage, and how purchase decisions are ultimately made.

Read the report.
Rants and raves
(42:54): Robert’s rant: Robert has long been searching for an article on predictive analytics that doesn’t make him want to roll his eyes. Unfortunately, after reading this article from Business2Community, he is still struggling with the idea that we need to get better at analytics in general before we can hope to start thinking about how to use them in a predictive capacity.
(45:43): Robert’s commentary: Despite his disappointment with the predictive analytics piece, Robert was encouraged to find a measurement-related article in The Wall Street Journal that he considers to be a marketing must-read. He completely agrees with the article’s assertions that marketers are missing out on a tremendous opportunity by overlooking the growth potential and spending power exercised by the Millennial and Gen-X “cord-cutters,” whose activities aren’t being adequately tracked by the current incumbent TV planning and measurement tools.
(51:11): Joe’s commentary: Last week, I gave a presentation at a mid-market consultant company near Cleveland. It was a joy to see that all their senior marketing players were present, including their CEO. Our session ended with the question I’ve been asking lately: What if everything we know about marketing is wrong?” After our discussion, we concluded that the absolute worst thing that can happen from taking a strategic approach to content is that you’ll come away with a greater understanding of why your company is spending so much time creating content.
This Old Marketing example of the week
(55:44): Marshmallow Fluff: Robert has long been a fan of Fluff – that ubiquitous marshmallowy spread that has lent its gooey sweetness to fluffernutter sandwiches and other tasty treats around the world for the past 100 years. But after discovering this profile piece on the Skyword blog, he has gained a new-found respect for the company’s skill at creating sticky content efforts, too. According to the company’s official history, H. Allen Durkee and Fred L. Mower purchased the recipe from its original owner and began manufacturing Fluff in 1920. The business did reasonably well for years; but its marketing efforts hit a real (sugar) high once it entered the golden age of radio. Instead of creating standard radio ads that interrupted programming, Fluff decided to create its own music-and-comedy variety show centered on three sisters, called the Flufferettes. Furthermore, in each episode of the show, a fictional “Boston scholar” named Lowell Cabot Boswell would mention that he had a very important book coming out, which listeners at the time believed to be a historical text. However, it ended up being a Fluff cookbook: The Yummy Book – which featured recipes for cakes and other sweets made with Fluff, and is still available today.

  Shades of the Green
by Claymore
High-energy and committed!!! England born Chris, as well as Jim and Derrek like to enjoy ourselves, and like to get everybody around us to have a fun time, but we also are very dedicated musicians. Although it may seem like Claymore is just about jumping around and not appearing serious, all of us are committed to being the best at what each of us do. We have our regular drummer Don (Otto) Wilson out with us on most occasions also. We are truly passionate about the music. We are also very grateful for our family and friends, who come out or support us in many different ways.
You can find out more details about Claymore on their website or on their Contributor Page on our website.
  Fairies
by Walter Gregor (1881)
This section comes from the book 'Notes on the Folk-Lore of the North-East of Scotland' and the introduction says:
This is an ethnographic study of the inhabitants of the North-Eastern area of Scotland in the mid-19th century, at a time when an agrarian, barter economy still prevailed. Life was hard among these remote coastal communities, and they lived in fear of maleficent witches and the 'Evil Eye'. Many of the rituals, taboos and folkways in this book are to ward off witchcraft directed against economic mainstays such as livestock and fishing.
The book has many fascinating bits of lore, as well as extensive oral poetry, all in Scots dialect. (There is, thankfully, an extensive glossary at the end, in case ye're na sure what all the clatterin's aboot.). There are also detailed descriptions of holidays, weddings, and other celebrations, which reveal that life was not completely grim. [Sacred Texts]
The chapter we read from is specifically about Fairies and customs associated with them. [source]
  King of the Fairies
by Anne Roos
Anne has graciously allowed us to play King of the Fairies which is a superb folk piece from her album, A Light in the Forest. More details about Anne and her albums can be found on her Contributor Page.
Anne’s music repertoire spans traditional Celtic (Irish, Scottish, Welsh), English, folk, religious and secular, Early, Renaissance and classical music, to Broadway, contemporary, pop and Jazz, and is virtually unlimited. She can easily provide the traditional “Canon in D” and “Here Comes the Bride” for a wedding processional, and play classic Frank Sinatra or Metallica at a reception. Her ability to faithfully play such a broad range of musical styles has helped to establish her popularity.
Visit Anne's website celtic harp music or find more details on her Contributor Page.
  Summer
by Alexander Pope, 1709
Alexander Pope (21 May 1688 – 30 May 1744) was an eighteenth-century English poet, best known for his satirical verse and for his translation of Homer. He is the third most frequently quoted writer in The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, after Shakespeare and Tennyson. Pope is famous for his use of the heroic couplet. [Wiki] The poem comes from the wonderful poetry.about.com.
Summer from the Second Pastoral
See what Delights in Sylvan Scenes appear! Descending Gods have found Elysium here. In Woods bright Venus with Adonis stray’d; And chast Diana haunts the Forest Shade. Come lovely Nymph, and bless the silent Hours, When Swains from Sheering seek their nightly Bow’rs; When weary Reapers quit the sultry Field, And crown’d with Corn, their Thanks to Ceres yield. This harmless Grove no lurking Viper hides, But in my Breast the Serpent Love abides. Here Bees from Blossoms sip the rosy Dew, But your Alexis knows no Sweet but you. Some God conduct you to these blissful Seats, The mossie Fountains, and the Green Retreats! Where-e’er you walk, cool Gales shall fan the Glade, Trees, where you sit, shall crowd into a Shade, Where-e’er you tread, the blushing Flow’rs shall rise, And all things flourish where you turn your Eyes. Oh! how I long with you to pass my Days, Invoke the Muses, and resound your Praise; Your Praise the Birds shall chant in ev’ry Grove, And Winds shall waft it to the Pow’rs above. But would you sing, and rival Orpheus’ Strain, The wond’ring Forests soon shou’d dance again, The moving Mountains hear the pow’rful Call, And headlong Streams hang list’ning in their Fall!
But see, the Shepherds shun the Noon-day Heat, The lowing Herds to murm’ring Brooks retreat, To closer Shades the panting Flocks remove, Ye Gods! and is there no Relief for Love? But soon the Sun with milder Rays descends To the cool Ocean, where his Journey ends; On me Love’s fiercer Flames for ever prey, By Night he scorches, as he burns by Day.
  Herne
by Jenna Greene
"Her ethereal music is inspired by Celtic lore and nature myth. She believes both nature and music are powerful healers. Fused together, her music will take you on a journey to sacred groves, standing stones and places of beauty within yourself."
Herne is a Celtic god who embodies masculine energy. He symbolizes the dark time of the year. Autumn is his time of power. I always think of this beautiful myth when the autumn leaves begin to fall.
Jenna can be found on Myspace, but her own website provides lots of useful information. You can find out more details about Jenna on her Contributor Page on our website.
