I saw that post yesterday and it reminded me of that twt phase where you had these hardcore "canon" stans (yk, the ones who don't get ppl like anything outside of the main couple/romance and call switching bed dynamics "ooc" and "disrespectful to the author") making a big issue out of fans giving HC friends and I was ???? It was so bizarre 😭 I have never seen anyone make Mu Qing his friend, wtf (but denying that their dynamic can and should be explored is stupid; it's Fan content???). But He Xuan is literally implied? HC praises him in front of XL, makes a point about Qi Rong being awful cause even HX thinks so, he defends him (saying that HX didn't drag the sailors into the storm and also saying that he doubts/isn't sure if HX killed Ming Yi) and - the most important - he lied to XL for HX and kept his secret until the very end. I'm not sure how ppl see this and buy HC's nonchalance about their relationship (and considering that XL never sees them interact, it's no surprise that XL doesn't have a concrete grasp of their dynamic, especially since HC insists on being blasé about it). There's also Yin Yu whom HC seems to be fond of in his own way (always remember that when YY tried to dig XL out of the Heavenly Capital and they thought about rescuing others, HC warned YY against that because he might die; and the soul thing). And the whole Ghost City that quite obviously loves their Chengzu and I doubt they would if he were genuinely cruel and unjust to them. Outside of that, he does (begrudgingly? Obviously?) respect some other characters too - he has lived 800 years without XL (even if for him...), he has other ppl even if no one is anywhere near XL for him, obviously. We don't get his thoughts, so I guess it's hard for ppl to grasp things if they aren't spoon-fed every little detail.

[On a side note, maybe it's just me, but it’s a pet peeve of mine if fan content makes HX XL's friend and protective similar to FengQing. I love XL, but I also enjoyed that HX was one of the few characters who didn't give af about him in canon - and one of the only few associated with HC. But ppl are free to enjoy whatever!]

Re: mxtx. Wasn't there a post-script in which she admitted that in the past, she used to believe that you needed to have your own life outside of your romantic partner but changed those views with time and hualian is supposed to be this (fictional) all-compassing love yada, yada, yada. Honestly, I don't care much about what authors/creators have to say if the text doesn't support it (and even if, canon can be wrong :p). Though mxtx did HC dirty, no doubt about that :( Anyway, HC deserves his own friends and to be cared for and anyone who draws issues with this (like, wow, fans wanting their fav character to be treated right? Color me shocked) is a weirdo.

and yeah the thing about people having to be spoonfed, like i said in my post that we never see hua cheng learn to value others as friends but that doesnt mean that it DOESNT happen. i just wish mxtx gave his perspective -_- I Would Like To See It. like people who say he doesnt actually give a shit about yin yu or he xuan outside of business are dumb as fuck. and i dont know why they are against him making friends, or love him being so dictatorial or whatever over yin yu. its so weird. 1. as far as im concerned Kagami never left at the end of last game, that was an extended dream sequence... 2. i also totally agree with you that Kagami is prolly vers, if anything, and it was also MY PET PEEVE when people pinholed him into being a forever bottom at the peak of knb hype. 3. you keep teasing your long list of ships for Aomine PLEASE do him for the character thing lol. Omg thank you!! (I agree end of Last Game is not canon… or if it is he came right back the next year or smth I refuse to accept he just left forever. And I’m really glad to see the problem of Uke™ Kagami seems to be in decline these days… fewer people are writing for knb in general, but those that are seem to have an idea what a real gay relationship is or at least make him a fucking person and not a walking stereotype, and that’s encouraging to see). 

Also thanks so much for sending Aomine! …Strap in for this character essay tho I’ve been known to never shut up about this boy once you get me started.

How I feel about this character

I honestly… can’t even explain it anymore or even try to justify it but Aomine has had a bigger impact on me than, I think, any other character I’ve seen to date. I don’t even know what it is, I do relate to him (and project on him *cough*) but like, there are other characters out there that I have more in common with, and I like his whole arc and aesthetic but it’s nothing revolutionary, so… your guess is as good as mine. 

Whatever it is, I’ve been obsessed with this guy for over half a decade, and lately even as the KNB fandom falls into decline, my feelings are not they’re just getting stronger. His development over the course of the series is one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever seen, (that one bit at the end of the Touou/Seirin game with “I want to practice” and his later conversation with Kuroko hit me in the fucking chest every time), and I love how even though he’s portrayed as cold, uncaring and rude, it’s still understood (at least by anyone with some nuance) that that’s not what he’s supposed to be like, and underneath the distant, kind of dickish front, he’s hurting a lot. I’ve talked about the degree to which he cares about people before too, but I still have to give a mention to the ferocious level of protectiveness this guy has for his friends. I could go on about him for ages, tbh, and maybe someday I will write a for-real structured essay to try to get it out there, but the bottom line is I love this character, I have for a long time, and likely will continue to do so long into the future.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Okay here we go… I ship this guy extremely liberally, even with people he’s never interacted with (hell you could mention any random character and I could probably see my way clear to shipping them with him somehow, I’ll still try to explain my logic if I can). Prepare yourself.

Kagami (of course, AoKaga is the OTP and definitely the one I’ve devoted the most time to, they’re just the best together I’ll never get tired of seeing them figure their shit out over and over)

Kuroko (I may be AoKaga on main, but I’m still such a sucker for the tragic romance between these two, and sometimes it just hits me over the head like a sledgehammer how much I love their relationship. I’ve also got a lot of feelings for AoKagaKuro, they’re such a perfect trio and I need to invest more of my time in the OT3)

Kise (I was a bit late to the game on AoKise, but I definitely see it now. I love their dynamic and how imperfect their relationship would probably be, the complexity of it. sign me up)

Momoi (I don’t see a lot of AoMomo love anymore, but I’ve still got a soft spot for it, childhood friends are my weakness okay)

Midorima (they’re so different but that’s what makes it interesting, and I love the idea of neither of them knowing how to show/tell the other their feelings and being awkward stubborn shits together)

Murasakibara (they almost never interact but I just think they’d have such a soft cuddly relationship and be really chill together… lazy Sunday mornings sleeping in and hanging all over each other that kinda thing)

Akashi (kinda same as Akashi/Kagami, I think the difference between polished upper-class Akashi and scrappy city boy Aomine would be hella interesting… though I’ve also got some angst ideas for them as a couple, after how things went down at Teiko… abandonment and whatnot)

Imayoshi (I got pulled into this ship HARD by Lysapadin’s A Firm Hand series and now it’s no longer a guilty pleasure ship and is actually something I’ll talk about in the open, just… the power dynamic fuck me up)

Sakurai (I fuckin love the idea of an anxious Sakurai crushing hard on Aomine and not knowing how to tell him but when he finally plucks up the courage and prepares himself for imminent death Aomine’s actually pretty chill about it… plus they’d be adorable together tbh)

Wakamastu (you know it’s gotta be enemies to lovers. not just bc I’m intrigued by the love/hate relationship itself but if you look past the attitude issues these two would actually probably have a lot in common. also I’m really interested in how their dynamic might change with Wakamatsu being captain and all)

Susa (idk but there’s one throwaway line in season 3 where Imayoshi says about Aomine “actually maybe he likes you” and that’s enough for me. bring me the rarest rarepair my body is ready)

Kasamatsu (it wasn’t supposed to be SERIOUS but they got me. That moment in the Touou/Kaijo game where Aomine helps him up and “you’ve really done it now, senpai” is legit, plus these two would be such a good-looking couple, honestly.)

Mibuchi (give me the pretty boys. I have no excuse for this except maybe their interactions in my own damn fic again)

Nebuya (sometimes shipping can be as simple as hey I want them to bang right. also they’re both humongous dorks under their respective rough exteriors and I love them)

Moriyama (they bond over liking girls at first and then they’re simultaneously like wait a minute… more Touou/Kaijo ships pls)

Nijimura (I have this idea of them reuniting late into/after high school and Aomine still calls him captain out of habit and Nijimura’s like relieved and impressed to see how he’s developed since the mess at Teiko)

Himuro (they Never interact but they’d be so Petty and Snarky sign me up)

Haizaki (twisted, but I’m interested it’d be so unhealthy and awful bring it)

Hanamiya (even more twisted tbh but there is that moment where Aomine confronts him… and I’m here for hate sex just as much as your typical romance)

Inoue (who, you ask? I know he’s such a side character and no one remembers him, but he’s a big reason for Aomine’s downfall at Teiko and they seemed to be buddies before that, I’d be interested in some kind of reconciliation between them, or a romance, ya know whatever works)

And then we get into crossover territory… MOST of these are not my fault they’re just things I’ve seen and adopted for myself

Kuroo Tetsurou (someone made a moodboard for them, and now I can’t stop thinking about them in a relationship, like damn… it’d be such a beautiful mess I wanna see more of it)

Oikawa Tooru (I’ve seen art, and also the light. These two damaged angsty prodigies, one sharp as a whip the other dumb as bricks, but both of them sassy and nerdy as hell. I could see myself getting addicted to this ship if I took the time to write it out, and I just might)

Yamazaki Sousuke (can’t lie, they look good together. I’ve seen more than one art piece of them interacting and I have a Mighty Need.)

Matsuoka Rin (angry lonely talented boys finding solace in each other’s company? you know that’s my shit. also shark teeth and cop AUs hells yeah.) 

Tanaka Ryuunosuke (I don’t know where the fuck this idea came from but I thought of Tanaka trying to pick a fight with “shitty boi” Aomine while in Tokyo and then losing his shit and here we are)

Terushima Yuuji (this one is purely physical… they pretty, I have no other reason, but also this absolute fuckboy, these two would be such a train wreck and I’m here for it tbh)

Yachi Hitoka (okay picture this Giant Terrifying basketball player trying to be less giant and terrifying to tiny shy Yachi and tell me you don’t just want to see that happen. I get Legosi/Haru vibes.)

I’ll spare you the rest of the ideas I’ve tossed around, because past this point it becomes pure crack (if it hasn’t already) but you get the idea. Throw a character my way and I can probably talk myself into it that’s the power this guy has over me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My non-romantic OTP for this character

K considering the List… it shouldn’t be surprising that I also consider this person a romantic candidate, but you know when it comes to non-romantic OTP it’s gotta be Momoi. Platonic or romantic, the way she’s stuck with him all those years and his obvious protectiveness and love for her and how (even though he claims to like big tits) he never even once starts to objectify her in any way, it’s so important to me. Momoi is Aomine’s redeeming factor when he’s at his worst, and she goes to bat for him even while he’s actively trying to shake her off and still tries to protect and help him when he refuses to accept it, even when it means they fight. (Also Kuroko saying “Aomine’s probably looking for you” after their argument puts to mind Aomine running through the rain calling Momoi’s name and that is just… pure). These two have the kind of unshakable long-standing friendship that’ll probably last them the rest of their lives, and no matter what context or form it takes, I can’t get enough of it. 

My unpopular opinion about this character

I’ve harped on enough about the fandom’s portrayal of Aomine as a one-note asshole who doesn’t care before, so let’s see if I can change gears a little bit here. 

I honestly don’t agree with… the persistent idea people seem to have of Aomine being a narcissist or obsessed with himself? Like yeah, he’s self-absorbed and egotistical, no question, this is not to say he hasn’t got those flaws and others besides… but that’s not the same as being like, physically attracted to yourself. Part of me suspects it was a “the only one who can fuck me is me” joke taken too far, so that now the idea of Aomine being in love with himself is just ingrained into the fanon culture, but if you look at the show itself, personally I don’t see it. If anything, I would think he’d have some self-loathing issues to work through (and that’s part of the reason he gave for skipping practice, he doesn’t want to be the way he is, and specifically says he doesn’t want to increase the difference between him and everyone else). But hey, that’s just my opinion. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I mean he says he and Kagami are postponing their match, after their brief one-on-one when he gives him the shoes, and then we never get to see it… Tbh just more street ball with this guy would be great, since it’s what his whole style is based around. Even if he’s just playing by himself… or hell, maybe since he thinks no one at the high school level can beat him, we could get a scene of him trying to go up against adults. Maybe he still beats them and his despair worsens after that, but then it’d have more meaning, and at least we’ll have seen that he’s tried and is not just giving up before he’s seen all of what he could be up against in the future. Plus, picturing Aomine going five-on-one like Haizaki did against grown-ups and still slaughtering them is something I’d pay money to see.

I am painfully aware of how annoying I can be. How annoying I am. Especially with just like... socializing? Maybe I care too much and that manifests in me talking too much or saying dumb shit that isnt as humorous as it sounds in my head so it comes out as just a bland sense of humor or small talk at best, which is pointless and further solidifies how "boring" and overall uninteresting I am.

Not to mention... I think I'm kind to a fault. Theres nothing wrong with kindness and I'm not trying to toot my own horn but I think I'm *too* kind. And I think some mistake it for weakness or consider me a pushover for it. They wont outright say it but I can sense that shit. It's hard not to.

I'm not a complete idiot but I can sense when I'm not wanted. I know all of this tends to put people off, especially girls. I mean, as unattractive as I am, I dont think my looks alone are responsible for my failure of a love life. But I have noticed that those who do show interest in me or initially are attracted to me eventually lose all interest the more we talk. And it's not because of attachment (as neediness is 100% a relationship killer and I like to think ove learned enough from personal experiences to be good in that department), it's just that it feels like my only redeemable qualities are my mediocre looks and that's not even enough bc I'm not entertaining enough to keep someone interested. Even with platonic friendships I know some people will hang out out of feeling obligated to, others will hmu only bc they need a favor and know I'm a down ass bitch who will help a friend no matter what (and theres nothing wrong w/ that bc I choose to and would do anything for friend, *EXCEPT * when I'm clearly being taken advantage of and they don't think I'll say no as that's my pet peeve), and few friends who genuinely want to just hang out or spend time together. I guess it depends on the friend group, I also think I'm a slightly different person depending on my friend group but these problems remain more or less the same.

It's just really fucking hard to act normal? I know I wasnt always like this. I was a bit more extroverted and I made friends very easily. I dont quite know how to stop being ad annoying as I am. It's just really difficult to pretend like I'm happy which is what causes me to be as annoying as I am. I genuinely do care a bit too much but it was easier to hide or at least it didnt manifest in me being more annoying when I was actually happy. Ever since fucking.... high school? Senior year? When I almost killed myself but decided not to because I had this chance encounter with someone who's now a good friend of mine. (I was very superstitious but I guess that prevented me from offing myself) Ever since then it's been so fucking hard. And I dont even talk about this shit with anyone, not even that friend who doesnt even know that they're the reason I decided not to. I just can't talk about it, it's not even that I dont want to it's more like... I dont have anyone to talk about it with or at the very least anyone that I think would care or that I wouldn't feel like I'm not bothering or *Annoying*. Even out of my close friends from any friend group I have. The closest people I can think of that I dont think I would be bothering would have to be my best friends from middle school, the twins. But they move to New York and life has a way of disconnecting people. I can still contact them but it's just been soooooo fucking long that even in my attempts to talk with Francisco and Crystal... it feels like we're complete strangers.

...Soooo I have no clue when you asked me this or when I reblogged those questions, because Tumblr didn’t show me anything in my inbox, but now I saw it! And I found the questions! So I can answer them! :D 

3: what random objects do you use to bookmark your books? - Normally I actually use bookmarks, and apart from that sometimes random pieces of paper, a pen or a receipt.

Only once I think and only for about 5 to 10 seconds, but yeah - when I was about 13 a friend of mine celebrated her birthday, and us five friends thought it would be a good idea to sleep in a wooden cabin on an opening in a forest (which my friend’s parents owned), to play Slenderman and then take a walk in said forest, the only light being the moon and two flashlights. So my friend’s little brother somehow knew about this and decided to put a lot of effort in pranking us - by building something that looked A LOT like Slenderman, putting it in the middle of the forest on the path and just leaving it there, knowing that we would come across it. So imagine us five 13 y.o. girls being already scared, Slenderman still in our minds, suddenly seeing that figure on the path, and because of the flashlights and our movements and the shadows it looked So. Freaking. Much. like it was actually alive and moving and we all just panicked and started to scream and to stupidly run in circles. (Yes, in circles. Not away from that creature, but in circles). And in those seconds of recognising that seemingly moving thing and realising that it was, in fact, not alive, I was truly scared for my life.

32: tell us a story of something that happened to you after 3AM when you were with friends. - I think the only times I was with friends after 3AM I was either sleeping or a few times out in a club or something similar - and I don’t recall anything happening out of the ordinary.

I miss my best friend.

But I’m scared. Scared to see if we can make things better.

In other words, I’m scared to go through this again. Through constant arguments and a big fight that tore me up in a way that took me weeks to fully understand. 

I still feel angry, though. I feel angry about the things we fought about, I feel angry about some aspects of our friendship. Why am I always angry? Why is there always turmoil inside me that seems to only come out in very specific situations?

It’s not fair. It is - was? - the ride or die friendship I had always wanted. A friendship where we can tell each other everything and we like the same things and we can just enjoy things without fear of the other person getting bored.

I don’t want things to end up like they did with Victoria. Can I say names on here? I guess it doesn’t matter, no one’s really paying attention to this blog.

I texted Victoria saying I missed her, in a last-ditch attempt to start a conversation and try to figure out what happened between us. What really did happen? Everyone says something happened when we were in Korea. Maybe I’m too rough around the edges. I’m too brash to have noticed anything. I don’t know. But... In that case... Is it worth being friends with someone who is overemotional and too sensitive?

Obviously, I know that I can be harsh and emotionless. That’s the point of this damn blog. And it’s something I’m working to change. But at the end of the day, I can’t fully change. 

Or is that a cop out people use? I know I absolutely HATE when people tell me things like “Oh, that’s just the way I am.” It’s such an awful excuse to get out of being decent, or accommodating to someone. I don’t ever want to use that excuse.

But in this situation... I don’t know. I’m willing to try, obviously, if I feel like the friendship is worth it. Maybe what I had with Victoria wasn’t worth it. She was a great high school best friend and got me through three years of college, but maybe that’s it.

When I think about it, we didn’t have a whole lot in common. We liked to draw and we liked to watch Catfish together, and... Is that it? Our temperaments work well together but maybe not our personalities. And I guess that’s fine. 

Now I know for sure that it’s not for a lack of trying. I did try to patch things up and I try to text as much as I can. If she doesn’t want to carry on the conversation, then that’s her decision and I’ll respect it. Mom suggested confronting her head on but I know she won’t be honest. She’ll give me some bullshit excuse like “Oh, this semester has been really busy. I’ve been swamped,” and that’s all I’ll get out of her. I know her.

I guess that’s a friendship that’s run its course. I’m leaving the country anyways, and I know she’d never come visit me abroad, so I guess there are worse things in life. Imagine having to miss more people than necessary? That feels like a chore.

Speaking of missing, let’s refocus back on the main reason I began writing this.

I miss my best friend. I miss Keisha a lot. I know I have Jayden and Jane, and I know they’re always willing to listen to me, but I can’t really compare. My different friendships, although equally as important, mean different things to me.

What does my friendship with Keisha mean to me?

It means having a safe space to just be myself. I know she wouldn’t judge me for anything I say or feel. She might call me stupid (sometimes aggressively, which does hurt a little bit) but I know she backs up every decision I make. I know I can call her up in the middle of the night if I need her immediately, and she may be mad about it but she’d let me talk. Or so I think. I don’t want to speak for her.

Our friendship means a lot to me. We have the same goals in life and the same morals. We have the same mindset and the same worldview. Fuck, we’re just so similar and having that kind of friendship irl is so rewarding.

Why do I get so angry with her though? Is it because we are so similar?

I know that I don’t like when she bosses me around. I don’t do well with authority, never really have. I don’t like when she thinks she knows what’s best for me or when she gives me unsolicited advice, but that’s the case with everyone I know. I barely like taking unwanted advice from my own parents, what makes anyone think I can take it from my friends?

I don’t like the way she talks to me sometimes, like I’m stupid or like I don’t understand the way the world works just because I’m younger than her. She’s said multiple times that that’s not the way she means to come across, but she could be a little softer with me seeing as this is an issue that keeps on coming back. I can’t be the only one to change my ways.

Also, something much less significant but still important given the people we are: we’re completely different kinds of stans. I like to stay out of everything. I could not care less where bands are, because it freaks me out. It makes me overthink: “Oh, maybe if I had walked along this road I would’ve seen them. Maybe I could just take a trip to get a glance at them.” Maybe this and maybe that. It’s hard to explain why things like that freak me out.

I don’t like to get involved in drama. I don’t care what xyz said about this person or this album or this concert. I always seem to have controversial opinions about things so it’s better if I don’t get involved anyways. With the whole Wonho situation, it’s been so hard to stay out of drama. You have to get involved to know what’s going on and who’s doing what in order to keep our boys safe. But I can’t do it anymore. Fuck, I couldn’t handle it from the start.

Keisha, on the other hand, seems to know everything and everyone. People don’t remember me, even if I meet them in person, and I have no impact online. And that’s honestly fine. I have a few online friends and really what more do I need? I admire people who have a big following, who have lots of online friends. For a while I felt like I was jealous of them. But honestly... It’s just not me. And I don’t want to be pulled into it because it’s just detrimental to my mental health. I get so invested, so obsessive, and I just... I can’t. I’m happier writing fanfictions and talking to people about how good they look. It’s shallow, but it’s the only way I keep afloat on stan social media.

Keisha likes to get involved, and that’s fine. But neither of us can expect the other to change to our preferences. I would like her to not tell me about what people are saying on twitter - and please don’t refer to them by name, they’re your friends, not mine. I don’t know who they are just by name. That’s just a pet peeve of mine in general, not really specific to this situation.   

But that’s just who we are and that’s one of the aspects I don’t see changing, so we need to be more accommodating of that.

I feel like I’ve only been saying negative things. There are lots of things I appreciate about Keisha. Obviously. She wouldn’t be my best friend if there wasn’t, right?

I appreciate how passionate and feisty she is. There’s a lot of things I wouldn’t have gone for or accomplished if it wasn’t for her pushing me to get my shit done.

I love the way we can talk about anything. I admire her makeup skills and her ability to stop me from overthinking.

That’s a big one. She has some sort of magic power, man. It’s like she’s the only one who knows how to steer my reckless trains of thought. I don’t know how but she calms me down when I’m too overwhelmed to see straight. I don’t think I would have a future plan as worked out as I do if it wasn’t for her.

I don’t really know what I’m doing without her.

I keep saying this, but she’s my ride or die. There is no one that I know (in person, at least) who would do the things she does for me, other than, like, my family. She is family. She’s like my big sister who always wants what’s best for me. I know she’d do anything in my power for me and I want to say I’d do the same. I hope that has been reflected in my actions. Hah, she would come to pick me up from the middle of nowhere and stop to buy food, all while complaining about my dumb ass. 

Though, I have to say: the concert ticket comment was hella manipulative. You can’t hold something that you know I can’t afford on my own and would do anything for over me. That was honestly really fucked up and I think about it a lot.

But, all things aside: this friendship means a lot to me. She is one of the most hardworking and driven people I know. She understands the shit I want out of life when most people don’t. I miss texting her random things and driving over to pick her up so we can get sushi. I miss laughing over things or sitting in silence on our phones together.

Yes! Well, kind of. I found one on the side of the highway and gave it to a friend for his birthday. I also had a bunch in my backyard because my dad is a sign thief.

I just throw them away or let them expire.

Are they definitely going to attack me? Because I know how to deal with bears and how to avoid being mauled by them. And also it’s really hard to get attacked by a swarm of bees. If it was wasps, however, I’d take my chances with the bear.
