One thing to suggest be put on there if you want to add anything is Twilight in Manchego. I just found it today. Idk if you've already discovered it, but in case you haven't it's something he did in 2008 I believe. If you Google it, it should pop up. There are a few videos on YouTube and there's a Facebook page.

So happy to answer!! I found most of this just by watching interviews, he's mentioned a lot of the stuff he's done offhandedly, not all of it of course. Others I found just by googling around, theres this site that has extended credits which is helpful. But really a lot of this isn't too difficult to find, I have "I must know everything about this topic" hyperfixations if that gives any more context.

And I'll say right off the bat that I found out about Twilight in Manchego like a few days after I made the ice berg, so I'd definitely put it on there now. Another thing I'd probably add now would be the reading he did for Book of Mormon.

Okay, now onto that list!

- I meant "How come no one says.." the song by Brett Ryback, that's my bad, I consistently get the song name wrong for some reason. I added it to the list because Alex has sung it four times (thats been recorded [1, 2, 3, 4] CW for wildly ableist language) and I'm like 99.9999% sure its the song he references in this interview and I found that a bit amusing.

- For both Everything is Fine and Slow Children, I only know what Alex has said in interviews. I don't have specific links, nor the time to rewatch a bunch of stuff right now, but I believe he talks about both of them briefly in this podcast with Drew if I'm remembering correctly. (I'm super sorry if I'm wrong!!)

- Love, NY was a show he did a reading for at the New World Stages, here's a playlist of the some the performance. He plays a character named Benjamin (Benji).

- No!! I never found a national anthem video, drives me up a damn wall honestly, you'd think something like that would be documented but I've had zero luck finding anything.

I feel like I’m going crazy over last twilight and I’ve got no one to talk about it with it’s so good omggggg. But the only thing that makes me 🤨 is the fact that Day has no glasses??? Obviously it wouldn’t completely help him but wouldn’t it help him see things like his phone? It’s just kinda funny to me because I’m someone who’s legally blind (but barely!) and needs to wear glasses all the time to drive, and if I don’t wear them I can strain my eyes. So i feel like realistically he should have some mega coke bottle ones! But also I realize it would ruin some of the tension (like him choosing to use his 10 seconds of clarity to look at Mhok I am screaming) but it’s kinda odd to me. I’ll accept it though because the rest is so good

Honestly I hadn’t thought about Day wearing glasses before. I’m no eye expert but maybe we’re supposed to assume the issue with his corneas doesn’t improve when he wears glasses. Or maybe we’ll see him try some on later? I checked out the trailer again and there were no glasses to be found but who knows! We’ve seen a lot of what was in the trailer play out already so the next 6 episodes are more of a mystery

Maybe the fact that Day is so insistent that he’ll get his sight back to what it was before makes him less encouraged to check out other possibilities because he doesn’t wanna accept that he’ll need them (whereas eye drops are more temporary)? This is actually kinda related to something I was thinking abt earlier with Day, he’s in a classic character wants vs needs situation. He WANTS his sight back, he NEEDS to be loved as he is by others and himself (even, or especially, when he’s blind). So I’m also hoping we can see what Day does when he accepts that his sight isn’t coming back (this is under the assumption it won’t come back bc I rlly doubt that will happen.. it doesn’t fit w the message the show is sending so far lol).

Tho like u said, the choice in what he gets to see with his 10 seconds of clarity rlly adds to the tension and his character’s evolution (choosing Mork in ep4, but then instead August in ep6), so maybe that’s the main purpose. Also I appreciate ur input as someone who’s legally blind! I was wondering what ppl who have partial/full blindness might think of Day’s character & last twilight’s portrayal of everything lol. We’ll see what this Friday brings us!

Wave Race 64 (1996)

back in 1992, nintendo released wave race for the game boy. 3 people bought it. somehow satisfied by these abysmal numbers, nintendo eventually greenlit a sequel for the nintendo 64 close to the system's launch, and ended up making one of the best racing games they've ever made. warm up time!! follow that dolphin!!!!

probably in the running for the most chill first party nintendo game, it's got pretty visuals (the water physics honestly still kinda hold up), an infectiously happy music score, and a pleasant announcer who's always happy to see you. it's just a fun, nostalgic game to unwind to from time to time, and it holds up much better than a lot of it's racing game contemporaries.

the control is still good; it's amazing just how responsive and natural it feels using only the analog stick. tight turns may seem daunting at first, but once you learn all the nuances, you'll do just fine. it's like riding a bike. except it's not a bike it's a virtual jetski.

only glaring flaw is that it's a bit too short; on the hardest difficulty, it's still only 8 stages long, and you can finish a run in about 10-15 minutes. however all of these stages are good (except glacier coast fuck you glacier coast). my personal highlight is twilight city, a nighttime cityscape with a giant castle front and center that you can drive under if you make the jump just right. and the music is a bop too. i think i already mentioned how good the music is but it can't be stated enough just how good kazumi totaka's music score is here. these songs will stay with you for a lifetime.

nintendo nailed it's first attempt at a racing game in THE THIRD DIMENSION; i don't even think mario kart 64 or f-zero x were as good. i dunno if it's just the intense nostalgia talking but this game is absolutely worth a shot. better than it's own sequel even. if only we got another one. oh well!

NOTE: if you do a series of convoluted stunts in a specific order in stunt mode you are able to eschew the jetskis and ride on dolphins instead. at least that's what i've heard. i have no idea if that's true or not. but in wave race blue storm if you input the konami code on the options menu the announcer gets replaced by an obnoxious asshole who hates you. this was discovered 9 whole years after the game came out. that's funny

Daichi- he’s a cop sorry that’s all there is to it man

Suga- Suga has multiple charges of 1st-degree murder against him but they can’t seem to find his identity so he continues committing murder and will continue until he gets caught or ends up murdering enough people to be put in a position of power

Asahi- everyone is probably like “Oh Asahi is innocent” NO. He has learned that his slightly scary face will let him get away with a lot, he is buying alcohol illegally because he looks old enough to, and he’s buying so much other shit and just getting away with it

Nishinoya- This man gives fucking pimp vibes I can just see him in the big leopard print fur coat with a pretty girl in his lap and he calls himself big poppa but no one else will

Tanaka- Drug dealer vibes, probably runs an entire fucking drug ring with his sister and not just a Lil weed these mfkas have the hard shit too like you could probably buy meth from them, he’s not using it but it’s good business

Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita- They literally rob a bank they have an entire scheme and get away with multiple bank robberies and this goes on for MONTHS

Kageyama- We know he’s volleyball smart but otherwise he’s so mfing stupid and I love him for it but he is a chronic shoplifter. Just picks something up and takes it, has walked out of a store without paying for an entire bed set once and got away with it somehow so idk props to him

Hinata- He is the little guy in any heist situation, he fits anywhere so he can sneak in and out the best, he gave himself the stupid ass code name tiny giant but everyone goes with it because somehow he is the best

Tsukishima- armed robbery, but he doesn’t have a gun just a knife like he’s tall and as an attitude, a knife will get him whatever he needs he doesn’t need the gun

Yamaguchi- He runs a catfishing scheme where he pretends to be a naive girl, scams old men out of their money, and then ghosts them and I think it’s what he deserves let him carry on especially because no one would believe it’s him. Also not really like a crime crime but still a crime in a way

Kiyoko- She kills men and I know it, Queen Kiyoko ending the patriarchy one shitty man at a time like she only kills men who deserve it bc some have rights.

Yachi- She’s too anxious to commit an in-person crime so she does a lot of cybercrime, hacking government databases and releasing info to the people, truly the anonymous we deserve

Saeko- She’s running that drug ring with Tanaka, and she loves it because there’s a thrill to it even though yknow she’s dealing literal meth but like its fine plus she loves rocking people’s shit when they get too handsy, which bring me to my next point underground MMA Saeko, like the illegal one with no rules yeah <3

Ukai- this man probably sells all kinda shit to minors that he shouldn’t he is so unbothered a 7-year-old could probably walk in ask for a pack of camels and get them and leave before he noticed what was going on.

Takeda- Did y’all see how scared Hinata was when Takeda gave him that lecture? This dude could kidnap someone and scare them into giving all the information he needed, a legend truly

Aoba Johsai

Oikawa- took steroids one time. And of course in sports, that’s not allowed. But he only did it once and regretted it for months afterward. Never told anyone and was just relieved he didn’t have to piss in a cup and have someone find out.

Matsukawa- Without hesitation, I know this man takes dead people’s bones and sells them on the internet. Has dubbed himself the bone man and he feels so much power when someone buys a femur or sumn. It’s kinda funny honestly he has a hoard of bones to sell, his fave is the pelvis.

Hanamaki- He’s in between jobs because he stole money from his last job, like he said he was sorry he just needed a little extra for gas but was sad to find out that’s a literal crime and he was laundering money.

Iwaizumi- he’s a street racer, like the fast and furious style and it’s so sexy of him like late-night races ugh to be in an expensive fast car with him where he has one hand on my thigh okay that’s enough of that.

Kunimi- Look me in the eye and tell me he does not do drugs. He does and if you don’t believe me you are wrong and I will fight you on this one. 

Kyotani- If there is a crime he will commit it for fun. Like he will do it with no hesitation. He has a record longer than twilight and I’m not sure how he is not in prison actually nvm he escaped and is  a wanted criminal lol

Shiritorizawa

Ushijima- Assault, he just reeks of getting into bar fights when he’s absolutely wasted. Like he most likely didn’t start it but he will be finishing it

Tendou- grave robbing, he just goes into the cemetery picked the oldest plots, and gets to digging. Has made thousands on dead people jewelry and probably won’t get caught, like besides the groundskeeper there’s no security he will never stop.

Semi- he breaks copyright laws on the daily. He’s sampling music in his all the time but he’s doing it so sneakily it’s fine its what deserves stream his band on Spotify right now,

Shirabu- His bangs are criminal enough. No, but he has stolen drugs from the hospital before he just wanted to try the Xanax, and yeah he could just write himself a prescription for it nut like it’s so easy to just go get some and no report it so that’s what he did.

Goshiki- y’all want me to say arson don’t you?? Fine. He commits arson multiple times and kills 7 people with fire before getting arrested and he doesn’t even feel bad so in prison he probably fucking runs a gang he is crazy.

Nekoma

Kuroo- he is a capitalist and class traitor and that’s crime enough I don’t care is he’s attractive or rich, He commits crimes daily by just existing but I still love him anyway.

Kai- Could not commit a crime he just wants to garden and live his life. Jk there’s at minimum one body in that garden let him kill a man he deserves it just let him have one dead body

Yaku- he keyed someone’s car once just because they pissed him off. Was it kuroo? Yes. But that’s fine because he also keyed Lev’s car but blamed lev for keying kuroo’s and Kuroo for keying Lev’s. He just wants to watch the world burn.

Kenma- cyberbullying but man he is mean. Like no bars held we will dig into every insecurity he can and that shit hurts and he doesn’t even feel bad about it he will just be as mean as he can if you’re not careful

Lev- his crime is being tall and dumb also doesn’t understand the economy and prints counterfeit money because why can’t we print more money? The government should get on that.

Inuoka- He released all the animals from a zoo, like snuck in one night and just let them all free, I’m surprised the tiger didn’t eat him but hey the animals are free, there’s still some missing uh oh he’s very proud of himself for it. After the rush, he starts sneaking into shelters and freeing all the dogs and cats

Yamamoto and Fukunaga- Have egged a house before, it was Kuroo’s he deserves all this bullying and you can’t stop me.

Date Tech

Aone- Criminal Conspiracy, sure he had an entire foolproof plan to get away with the perfect crime but someone found out, and now his plans are ruined, damn </3 and no one ever suspects the quiet guy either.

Futakuchi- Having a prostitute, he just wanted some company like mans is lonely so he paid a girl to just spend a Lil time with him it’s all good.

Fukurodani

Bokuto- I know we all haha funny laugh at tax evader bokuto and sure maybe he evades his taxes but he’s also committed vehicular manslaughter, he cannot drive and has killed someone with his car maybe even multiple someones but he always drives off in a panic because he doesn’t know what else to do.

Akaashi- Hasn’t actively committed a crime but has been an accomplice in every vehicular manslaughter Bokuto has committed why the fuck does he keep letting bokuto drive? He really needs to stop that.

Konoha- A master scammer he is so convincing everyone gives him money even if they’re a little sus because he’s just that good each scheme is so convincing.

Inarizaki

Kita- He grows weed, you can’t tell me those rice fields are just for rice he’s got all this space he is growing marijuana and selling it, let him do it I want him to be my plug.

Osamu- resisting arrest. He just said no and ran. Granted he shouldn’t have punched the cop in the first place to have to be arrested but like that’s not the point here.

Aran- accidental child abandonment, like he just forgot he was babysitting and left the kid alone for like a day. He felt terrible but he still forgot the kid and now is fearful of parenthood

Suna- owns an illegal weapon, like he just never registered it and keeps it around and would use it if needed Suna please just point the weapon at me maybe

Others

Terushima- Graffiti, he loves painting on the walls of buildings and tagging them, has so much spraypaint and his day isn’t complete if he doesn’t tag at least one building or train car.

Daishou- Public intoxication- he got a little too fucked up and stripped on the street he will forever have to live with everyone knowing he has an ass tattoo like damn bruh

Sakusa- Perjury he simply wanted to get out of court so he said some shit so he could leave granted he lied under oath but whatever, did they ever find out? No, so he’s fine and he’d do it again if it meant he could leave faster. Like sure he was a witness to a murder but bruh he pretends he does not see.

Hoshihumi- driving without a license he simply thought you didn’t need one because why do you need a piece of plastic to say you can drive a car like??? Just know how to drive it.

A not so terrible fate. (Linked Universe pt4)

The boys are so nice to me! All of them. Well as nice as Legend and Warriors can be, i guess. I got to know Warriors better by the time and he isn't that mistrusting diva anymore. Legend on the other hand kinda refuses to even seem nice. :(

Wind, Hyrule and Four are really cool! They are so funny and nice! Hyrule even can do a bit of magic and Wind can control the winds with a magical stick. Taya and Teal like them too! Wild is completly crazy. But cool crazy. :D He can make fire with his hands when he rubbes two sticks together. I didn't even know that's possible! And he makes delicious stuff! He kinda reminded me at you buddy. But when he wanted to teach me how to make fire, Twilight came and stopped him :( Twilight is nice too. But a bit overcareful. He always watches Wild the most. But Twilight is probably the strongest of all! He can lift me and Sky together :D and if he wants, Wind on his back too.

Oh! How could i forget Sky? We was the first one to talk to me. And he is amazing and so kind! He seems like hugging everything he meets. (His hugs are fluffy btw) Skys weapon is a bit odd. It feels like i know it but i don't know why. That feeling is there since i met them. It's strange. Oh, where i just wrote about it, there is also Time. The leader. A really nice guy. It seems like he trusted me from the beginning. Why? No clue, my dude! (How Wind says) But im not the only one that thinks he's odd... Taya asked me today if we know Time somehow. I really don't know. His voice, his look, his taste of music, the markings on his face. It all somehow playes together before it vanishes infront of my eyes again. Anyway. Horror Kid was very proud on that long letter. Not worrying if his his friend can even read this, he gave it ti Tael. He would deliver it safely. Usually both of them had a fairy, but Horror Kid just wanted to go for a small walk with his fairy friends, when the monster attacked him out of the blue. Today in the morning the heroes even killed it. It had had strange black blood and was unusually big and aggressive.

Horror Kid could do nothing to help them. He never was a good fighter. And everytime he tried, some of his friends got hurt. So now he better distanced himself.

But Woods were save for now. And Horror Kid finally could show his friend to the others. He maybe had to write another letter to tell him more cool stuff he did with his new friends. When he realized that his friend probably wasn't even able to read the letter he wrote before. Horror Kid just taught him how to read. Well, to read his own form of language. The Hylian signs were way more difficult and Horror Kid couldn't write or read them himself. So he just developed a new kind of writing.

His friend was very weak, but he got better by the time. And got more to know about the world. They really got to know each other shortly after... after the moon... Well that was a diffrent story now. At the start, there were a few complications but Link had still forgiven Horror Kid after all he had done. So he could forgive his friend.

He missed him so much. He hadn't seen Link for a damn long time. And Horror Kid could neber find him. Nowhere. He often wished he could someday introduce him to his new friend.

Horror Kid and Taya were just with Warriors and Hyrule, when Tael came back. "He's fine. And he really whats to meet 'em."

Before he could thank Tael, Hyrule spoke up in fae. "Who are you talking about Tael?"

Tael answered with a fairy grin. "I see your fae got better. That's cool. We're talking about a friend of us."

Warriors looked at Hyrule a bit jealous. "Geez, 'Rule. I wish i could speak fae so fluent. Or even understand it."

"Thanks! Time practised with me a bit. The fae in his Hyrule is a bit diffrent to mine. But i still don't get how he can speak it so fluent." The boy named after the country answered thinking.

"Didn't know the Old Man could even speak it." He shook his head with a grin. "Well, there're a lot of unsolved mysteries about Time."

Speaking of fae, Link came to his mind. "Oh, i know someone who can speak fae too. He's my best friend. But i havn't seen him for a long time. Someday i will see him again. And then i will show him my new friend." He said putting on his skull mask.

Warriors chuckled. "Hah, i hope not another fairy, or i'll drive crazy if i have to hear more of that ringing sounds. Proxi was enough." He said crossing his arms.

Hyrule looked at him. "Wait, yeah you had a fairy too right? Hie could ya understand her without fae?" He said with a smug face.

"Never needed to. Proxi always spoke Hylian." He waved his hand.

"Wait, really?"

"Yeah. Kinda annoying anyways. But that still doesn't answer my question. Who is your 'new friend'?" He said with his sapphire blue eyes on Horror Kid.

His 'new' friend was not that new but he always begged Horror Kid not to use his name everywhere else than at home with him.

And he promised him that he would never use the name 'Majora' next to others.

Summary: Todoroki had a successful but exhausting day. He’s happy with his accomplishments, but from Kirishima’s perspective, for all he knew, Todoroki could have just been told he had twenty-four hours to live. Long story short: the boy can’t show emotion to save his life.

AN: For the anon who requested some Todokiri 93,000,000 years ago. Sorry this took so long DX ! I hope you like it! I should also note that, for those of you who only watch the anime, there’s a bit of spoilers in here. Nothing major, just be warned.

Todoroki collapsed onto a couch in the common room with a heavy sigh. He was exhausted from his day of supplementary lessons; those kids were a real hand full. Letting his head fall against the back of the couch, his eyes flittered closed as he breathed another, softer sigh. His classmates must have been in their rooms, training, hanging out somewhere, or who knows… He was the only one there. And that was fine with him. He didn’t feel like traveling the extra distance to his own room and he appreciated the peace and quiet.

A soft twilight glow seeped into the room through the windows and the white noise of running electricity from somewhere in the building was all that kept him company. This serenity, however, was in fact, short lived.

The muffled sound of an explosion came from outside before an irritated shout of ‘Shut up, hair-for-brains!’ was uttered from Bakugou. The sound of the door opening and closing, then two sets of footsteps heading his way; one light and almost bouncing, the other heavy and – definitely –  angry.

“C’mon, Bakugou, I’m sorry, but I’m just having trouble picturing you in that kind of situation,” said Kirishima, laughing.

“It’s not funny, dumbass! Those brats were impossible!” Bakugou shouted. “Now leave me alone, I’m goin’ ta bed!”

“It probably would’ve been easier if you hadn’t tried to pick a fight with them, Bakugou. You just made things more difficult for everyone,” Todoroki drawled as the explosive boy stomped his way past the common area to his room.

“Shut the hell up, Icy-hot!” He shouted over his shoulder, not bothering to stop. From the other side of the room, Kirishima laughed before going to join Todoroki on the couch.

“Was it really that bad?” he said with a crooked, sharp-toothed grin.

“At first, yeah. But we had them under control by the end. It was exhausting, though…”

“Yeah, man, you look beat… and kinda bummed. Lemme ask ya, man: it did go well… didn’t it?” The red-head asked

“What? Yes. Of course. I told you it did.”

“Then… why don’t you look happy? Aren’t you glad you guys did well?”

“Of course I am,” said Todoroki incredulously, furrowing his brow.

“…Dude. Smile! Twitch one corner of your mouth up. Anything, I don’t care. Just… just be proud of yourself for one second would ya! Just…. I… EXPRESS, MAN!” As his classmate ranted energetically, Todoroki stared at him in awed confusion.

“I don’t get it. What are you asking me to do?” At that, Kirishima deadpanned at his clueless classmate. For a moment, they just stat there staring at each other; Todoroki blank-faced as always and Kirishima, almost glaring before his expression turned thoughtful.

“What?” Todoroki asked. Before he had a chance to think, Kirishima had leaned towards him and plunged a hand into his side, squeezing and scratching curiously. Taken fully by surprise, Todoroki’s eyes widened considerably and, with a jolt, he let out a comical yelp. Now Kirishima was grinning.

Adding another hand, this one to Todoroki’s ribs, there was a panicked struggle as the fire-ice hero hopeful twisted away from the red-head and attempted to grab a hold of his wrists before he started laughing.

“Wait! Kirishima, dohon’t!”

“Oh no, man, this is beautiful! Mr. emotionless is ticklish!? Oh yeah, you better believe I’m gonna milk this for all it’s worth!” he teased in astonished excitement. Soon enough, light chuckles began rolling out of Todoroki’s mouth as he curled in on himself, turning towards Kirishima and drawing his knees up to his chest. “Duhude, you’re blushing!” Kirishima laughed.

“I-ehehehahaha! Stap!” said Todoroki, having given up trying to fight him off and glowing even brighter red before he was overcome with the incredible urge to hide and hid his face in his hands.

“Oh no ya don’t! Get your hands away from there right now, Todoroki!” Kirishima teased, adjusting to drill his thumbs into his classmate’s upper ribs near his underarms. And, just as Kirishima had planned, Todoroki’s elbows shot down to his sides, desperate to protect himself. What he honestly didn’t expect was for the class genius to throw his head back in almost cackling laughter at the buzzing sensations on his ribs now driving him mad.

“HAhahhahaahaaa! Shihit staha! Oh gahahaaad!”

“Woaho! You’re laughing this hard and you’re cursing?! You must be really ticklish here, huh?” Kirishima said, grinning ear-to-ear at his success. “Now, ya see? This is the kind of expression you should have after a good day! Just show your pride on your face, man! That’s all I’m askin’!”

“A-HAHAaa! Ahalright, alrihight! I get it! Pleahese just- DAHAHAaaahaha!” At this point, Todoroki was practically incoherent as he slowly fell into insanity at the ticklish sensations.

“Alright, well… if you understand, I guess that’s enough,” the red-head drawled as his fingers stilled, releasing his classmate to catch his breath. There was a relaxed silence in witch Todoroki attempted to calm himself and Kirishima waited patiently, grinning at him fondly.

“… Um… Kirishima?” Todoroki murmured bashfully after a while.

“Hmm?”

“I-uh… I get what you were trying to say and all, but… I-I don’t know if I’ll always be able to- I mean I’ll-I’ll try, but… I’m… not used to… expressing… you know… like that…” His voice had been getting quieter and quieter until trailing off all together. Kirishima even noticed a slight dusting of pink on his cheeks and he smiled warmly at him.

“Aw don’t worry about it, dude! Just do whatcha can! It doesn’t have to be much, just enough to let us know how you’re feelin’! But if you ever need help…” he prompted with a mischievous grin and threatening wiggly fingers at witch Todoroki’s face darkened and he quickly averted his eyes from Kirishima’s. But the small, awkward smile wasn’t lost on either of them.

“Yeah, see?! Just like that! That’s plenty!”

“Okay… Thanks.”

“Any time, my man! Well I gotta go take a shot on those homework problems Bakugou assigned me. He’s been helpin’ me study and if I don’t get at least one of ‘em right, he’s gonna kill me.” Kirishima stood to go, leaving a still-half-smiling Todoroki on the couch.

“Oh and, Todoroki…” The boy turned to look at his classmate expectantly.

“Nice smile. It suits you.”

I was a Twihard in high school. Then I was a Twilight hater. In  2018, I decided to reread the first book, to see for myself on which side I belonged. I wrote my thoughts as I read, in multiple parts, but on my main blog, so I thought I might share them on my writeblr too, because I kinda had fun with it.

I’m actually kinda into it. Yeah, there are a many issues every article on editing tells you to fix (filter words, -ing verbs and things like that), but i feel it. I don’t know what it is, but it’s there.

Bella isn’t that bad of a protagonist. Nothing too spectacular, but she’s fine. She is depressed, self sacrificing and hides her feelings, but also a lot more self aware than i though she would be(like when she notices mike, my son, likes her). She’s a typical teenage girl, the introverted type, way into reading. there’s nothing wrong with that.

I don’t know why i remember Edward being a draco in leather pants,but he’s also fine for now. mysterious and handsome and a bit weird. The first real conversation they have, he’s polite and nice and charming. I expected him to be a dick for like 150 pages at least.

Pages 50-100

I’m still really into it.

Yeah,Edward kinda ghosts her/gaslights her after the whole van incident, but with the benefit of hindsight,i kinda get it. It’s a wonder he didn’t pick up his entire family and moved to Alaska again. I also get her mood during that time and I've been there so i feel ya,Bella,it’s not your fault.

And yeah, Bella gets invited to the dance by three different guys and it’s all kinds of fan fic-y, but the fact she turns them down furthers my belief she’s wake up married to Edward in like a few years and realize she would rather be with Rosalie (a solid choice, might i add).

Edward’s really pushy, especially when it comes to the scene after she faints. like, let her go, you jerk, she can drive herself, but he’s more weird than he’s a jerk and i think that was intentional.

A big surprise was the line “what if i’m not the hero, what if i’m the bad guy?” which isn’t this super cheesy, extra dramatic sentence but a jokey joke told with a laugh. actually, that whole conversation in the cafeteria where she tries to guess what he is is gold and don’t try to tell me otherwise.

I’m reading her interests in him as less of a romantic thing, and more of frustration at his behavior,like she would still be fascinated by him if he wasn’t so hot because he’s just so weird (but being hot is definitely a plus).

Still, while the flaws are there, i’m still enjoying it very much.

Is Stephanie Meyer into anime? Cuz she wrote a harem light novel,that’s what she did and that’s how i’ll read it from now on and have more fun doing it. (Might make a post elaborating on this further).

All this to say that we got to Jacob. Not gonna lie, I kinda forgot about him.  He seems like a nice kid and i’m glad Bella has some positive interaction. Team jacoj 4 life (jk,man,i was team jasper in high school which is in retrospect very weird of me). I know he becomes a friend-zoned dudebro later, but for now, he’s fine.

Meyer, lady, you’re winning me over as a half hearted defender of your work, but why are the girls so bitchy? Yeah,i know, bitchy girls exist in real life, especially in high schools,but girls are our friends and we need more positive female on female interactions. Just my personal preference, I guess.

Things are getting interesting. Bella’s dreaming weird dreams (just fyi, not a big fan of dream scenes in general), she’s googling like crazy  and we’re going to Port Angeles.

I never felt she has any sort of affection for Angela or Jessica who seem really nice and have done nothing wrong. Like loosen up Bella, give them a chance. I know, depression makes you into a bitch sometimes, but it would warm me up to her character if she was a little more affectionate with people around her.

That whole scene where she almost gets at best beaten up and mugged and at worst raped and killed is… not my favorite part of the whole thing. I get what Meyer needed to do, to have her be saved by Edward, but there must have been a better way to go about it. What do I know? I’m the queen of forced plot contrivances. I do like their conversation at the restaurant (again, why do we hate the female waitress, Steph?). I don’t know why, I expected Edward to be mad at Bella for what happened to her and he seems genuinely concerned and his anger feels… human. Some of his actions, however, do not.

He stalked her which is weird and creepy and I hate it. Don’t stalk people, Edward. most of us don’t like it. you’re lucky Bella’s a weirdo.

I kinda love how ok she’s with the whole vampire thing. she’s just “well, this kid i barely know told me a scary story, so i guess the guy from school is a vampire. it be like that sometimes.” my first assumption would be it’s all an elaborate prank to make fun of me (i have some deep seeded trust issues origins of which remain unknown). and he’s waaay to quick to confirm her suspicions. I think there’s an explanation in the part of midnight sun that got leaked, but that was like a century ago.

I would criticize her for being ride or die with Edward so fast, falling in love with him so quickly, but i exchanged like 5 sentences with a cute girl last night and a part of is ready to propose based on the artiness of her instagam, so who the eff am i to judge?

and i get why he’s fascinated with her. she’s the only one he can’t read.

why? i don’t think that question ever gets a good enough answer, but it’s a fictional story about a girl falling in love with a sparky vampire. i’m not here for complex science or detailed explanations.

he seems waaay too protective of her. She’s a big girl, Ed, she can take care of herself. It’s actually kinda annoying. i dislike how he treats like a child a lot of the time. he seems pretty condescending. also, if he broke her car, i’m taking back everything nice i said about him.

ok, let me finally address bella’s biggest character flaw, her clumsiness. i mean, i get why she has it but Meyer goes a bit too hard on it. i’m clumsy, i really am, full of bruises, always bumping into things, but Bella can’t walk 20 meters without tripping. i guess i’m just glad she becomes a vampire in the book four, otherwise the book five would have been about her struggles when she’s diagnosed with a stage four inoperable brain tumor that’s been mesing with her sense of balance and the whole things turns into a weird version of the fault in our starts.

if i were writing it i would focus on her trust issues and being unable to form real bonds with other people as her main flaw, maybe even use it to try and justify the whole thing with the mind Edward can’t read. Like, she’s too different in a way that makes her unable to connect even on a basic level, like that one Blue whale that sings at a different frequency than all the others. Idk,i write pulpy sci fi. but it’s easy to be a general after the battle.

we got to the two infamous lines:

how are you? 17. how long have you been 17?  is another line that’s more jokey than i though it would be, but also the most realistic piece of dialogue in this book. i would so ask the same thing.

About three things I was absolutely positive. First, this paragraph has been memed to death. Second, there was a part of me-and I didn’t know how potent that part might be-that would know every word of it till the day i died. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in like with it.

Not gonna lie, the whole part where he goes around asking her questions he is legitimately interested in knowing the answers to is at the same time my kinkiest fantasy and my deepest fear. like, yaaas, daddy, get to know me on the personal level and don’t be turn off by the fact i’m a tabula rasa.

We got to the infamous meadow scene and Bella is sooo horny on main for that vampire stake it’s actually kinda funny. She gets so effing into it she faints. I fucking love this girl. Go get that adonis dick, Bella, you deserve it.

I don’t mind vampires sparkle.i mean,it’s lame and fanfic-y but in Bosnia we have the lampires so vampires are creatures with a high dose of plasticity. i don’t know why that was like the worst thing anyone has ever done to the vampires. They are kinda too strong and could use a real weakness tho.  

So the lion fell in love with the lamb is kind of another joke. Also, this is the skin of a killer is sadly just in the movie.

I do have the feeling he likes the project that he sees in Bella more than the real girl,but ok. Also stop nagging her. He watches her sleep. What a creep. I don’t know why, but the fact that he’s a vampire who doesn’t have to sleep makes it kinda less creepy for me. I don’t know why.

But “if i could dream at all i would be about you,” is the kind of ultracheese i can get behind. they are both such teenagers and i kinda looooove it.

Also non of the boys were her type is such a lesbian excuse. I feel ya Bella, i feel ya. I hope you discover your gayness after the end of breaking dawn.

We meet the cullens and every single one of them has a backstory like 528 times more interesting than Edward. i need novels about them, all of them ffs. it would be so cool. but, one of my favorite oc’s Errien Lark gets like 30 lines in the whole book so i can only be as harsh on Meyer as on myself (which is to say a lot. neither of us deserve these characters, honestly)

This book would have been more interesting if Bella fell in love in any other cullen. Like, Bella and Alice, Bella and jasper (Bella and Jasper and Alice. Sorry, i’m into solving love triangles with ot3s).Bella and Rosalie, Calilise, Esme, even Emmett, who i remember  as mike of the vampires, but it’s been a decade.

300 pages in and plot is yet to happen, but it’s ok. we have the vampire baseball next.

The less fucks she has about him being an all powerful ancient creature of the night who can murder her in a heartbeat, the funnier it is. She is just soo casual about it. Comedy gold, i tell ya. i mean, this is actually part of the narrative, Edward comments on it, meyer knows what she wrote.

Ed,maybe is you stopped saying she smells good, you would be better at not thinking about her as food. Mind over matter. Just a thought. Maybe i misjudged his virgin ass. Maybe ed the incel actually fell in love with her. Or at least what he thinks is love since they’ve been dating for like two days (look who’s talking?the girl who reads any sign of affection as a statement of love and then gets disappointed).

“Emmett could never be compared to a gazelle”. That’s sexist steph. Emmett, honey, you are as gracious as you want to be.

Also a big yaaaas on the whole concept of vampire baseball. we needed more of it.

Plot! Plot! Plot! Plot! Plot!

We have encountered plot. Only 320 pages in. three bad vampires came into town.

Story time: when i was in high school, all like 20 of us in out class were really, really into twilight (dudes included). we quoted it all the time but the height of comedy happened when someone brought their friend from another school to out class and someone else was like “you brought a snack” and a meme was born to be quoted endlessly for months. it was actually kinda fun. and probably very annoying for anyone who wasn’t into twilight.

Also, any development? Backstory? Motivations other than for the hell of it for out boi James and his ginger girlfriend? come on, it wouldn’t even be that hard. Also, some foreshadowing? There was like one line before. This is a legitimate criticism. it’s kinda shitty writing and a wasted opportunity.

Edward is being a dick again. I get he’s scared but her dad could die. Or maybe they’ll trun him into a vampire too (charlie/Edward? Think about it). But they all call him out on it which is nice. Bella’s plan isn’t bad, but “let me go charlie” is the straight up coldest thing i have read in a long time. it’s supposed to be, this isn’t criticism, just stating the obvious. But she showed like an inclining of love for her dad who has been nothing but nice all this time. Yeeey, she’s not a robot.

“It was the best idea. Of course it was mine” . Yaas, queen, you’re not that much of a doormat;  take that credit.

i would do something to foreshadow the ballet studio thing in the first half of the book. at least, have Bella or Charlie looking at pictures from her recital, just to intricate it to the plot a bit more.

Ok, now i remember why i was team jasper. He is so effing nice. And he would be awesome for my depression. Neira/Alice/jasper, i ship it.

i’m kinda digging the explanations of how vampires work and the whole venom thing. They are still op af and need to be nerfed, but i wanna be one.

Of course, he used the mom. She’s like the only person bella actually cares about. She falls for it. i would probably fall too, but i’m dumb.

the fact that james hunted Alice is a nice and a very much needed twist. it did catch me of guard. i would be more mad he’s a bad guy monologing, but i can only introduce stones to my own glass houses.

Bella’s now more into the idea of being a vampire than into Edward and i’m living for it. she’s going to use him for his venom and a baby and run off with rosalie.

“and how many times did she fall our of a window?” (yes, that is a Sherlock reference in the year 2018 of our lord. maybe i should do that for my next project. should i wait a few more years?)

her mom is not worried enough, honestly. my mom would be freaking out. but my mom has anxiety issues, so idk… (i couldn’t get her smooth hairless legs, or her blue eyes but i got that gene. thanks, i guess) .

“And i have a couple of girlfriends” now that’s a novel i want to read but i guess i’ll have to write the lesbian twilight myself.

“I want to be superman too”. yeeees, finally, kristen steward in the role of superman casting of the century. you would all watch it and love it, and you know it.

Charlie doesn’t deserve this shit. when will he retire with his husband billy in their cabin where they can fish all day.

i actually kinda digged it. it’s nothing special, but i read these last 150 pages in one sitting. my main issues are writing oriented. very little foreshadowing, many filter words and things like that, but i guess if you aren’t that into writing, you might not even notice more of that.

it’s not the death of literature, it’s not the worst love story ever told. it’s just a silly and mostly harmless wish fulfillment novel.

edward can be a controlling and condescending prick but he gets called out on it very often. it’s not like meyer is completely oblivious to what she’s writing. and even tho he’s 100, i guess they are all mostly stuck mentally at the age when they were turned. or at least that’s how it seems to me. bella is kind of a bitch to everyone who’s not a vampire and she’s never called out on it, there’s a glimpse of change in the epilogue, but i don’t think meyer really considered it a character flaw. which is a shame, as it could have made for an interesting character. all the vampires have stories i would rather read about, as i said before, but what can ya do? that’s what’s fanfics are for.

i may write more of cohesive thought on it when it settles in my brain, but first, i need to watch the movie. i have a hypothesis i need to test.

but i don’t regret doing this. it was kinda fun and now i’m no longer ashamed of my twihard phrase. i could have done worse, as far as teen phases go.

Someone should like write a fanfic, but Edward is not a vampire, but a rich guy. And he’s into some hard core spanky business. And they should take all the problematic elements and just crank them up to 11. And add a looot of sex. I bet they could make millions.

Tho, honestly, how can you read twilight and not make bella the kinky dom? you fundamentally misunderstood the story. for shame

An entirely too long ramble about how much Imperfect Metamorphosis means to me

So. It’s almost the last day of the decade. I usually get weirdly sad and nostalgic in the last 30 minutes of New Year’s Eve, but this time it’s been like, a whole week, and I’ve been reflecting on this decade as a whole as well as like, my path in life.

The 1990’s were the decade of my birth and early life.

The 2000’s were the decade of being REALLY into Harry Potter.

And my 2010’s were, wholly and singularly, defined and shaped by Touhou. 

I got into Touhou sometime around Easter 2010 when McRoll’d came into my YouTube feed, and something about the music was just so god damned catchy I just had to know where it came from. So I discovered Flandre’s fight and from there, I learned just how great the music of this weird bullet hell game made by some rando in Japan. It quickly became my Thing. When I wasn’t playing sucking at the games, I was listening to the music, and if I wasn’t listening to the music, I was at school (where I’d probably not be paying attention let’s be real here).

So there I was, happily consuming fanart and fansongs and fangames and doing that little smile in appreciation when you see a reference to a thing you like (shoutout to raocow for also playing a few Touhou fangames way back when). It expanded my gaming interests into the sphere of “modding games to make them harder can be fun and cool”, which then lead to a general interest in playing modded and moddable games. It even made me interested in visiting Japan (on my bucket list), not in that stereotypical “weeb” way of visiting all the anime and manga stores, but more in the “something I like put a country on my radar and holy shit some of those restaurants, l want to eat at ALL of these places because they’re gorgeous” way.

You’ll notice that I specifically withheld from mentioning Fanfiction. See, as a teenager who did have the “try something once and if I don’t like it I’ll probably hate it forever because it’s always like that” mentality, I had the unfortunate experience of coming across My Immortal. 

That, and the fact that one of my close friends in High School had taken to reading Twilight Fanfic (and complaining at almost every story she read and their bad use of tropes) kinda solidified fanfiction as “something dumb and stupid written by people who solely want to roleplay fucking the protagonist”. And on that pedestal sat the entire concept of fanfiction for a long-ass time (actually it was about a year and a bit).

Fast forward a while. Patchouli had cemented herself as All Time Favourite Character, I’d begun to grow out of my Harry Potter phase in search of new stories, and I’d made some new friends, one of whom said they read fanfiction all the time and some of it was actually better than original, published books because they had the freedom to explore ideas that weren’t entirely publishable. But also to roleplay fuck their waifus.

At some point in Summer 2011, not too long after it came out, I decided to replay Portal 2, and something about the story left me feeling… incomplete. Empty. I sought people discussing what they thought of the story and hidden nuggets of info peppered throughout the game, and at some long buried comment section on YouTube, someone mentioned how some fanfiction went into a headcanon and took it further. I read it, considered it for a moment, deemed it worthy of being called “not trash”, and immediately set to looking at the Touhou section on FF.net.

The first fanfics I read of Touhou were… Well, they were. There were some good ones and not so good ones. But they were all, in some way, at least interesting. I quickly discovered the frustration that New Friend had brought up once, of when you discover something great but it’s over all too soon. Setting FF.net’s search to include only 100k and up fanfics, I was delighted to discover that there was a fanfiction called “Imperfect Metamorphosis” that was over 350,000 words long. And then my carefully crafted plan of going to bed at a sensible time to maximise Summer Gaming Time was devoured by staying up until 4:30am, reading fanfiction on a shitty laptop that could barely run UFO. Thank fuck it was the summer holidays.

There was something special about Imperfect Metamorphosis. The characters all had their own personality, their own history, their own implied history beyond what was written, they had goals, thoughts, feelings, and different takes towards other people working to further their own goals. And it was all wrapped up in a package that started with a simple premise, grew to encompass a world more broad than mere canon or fanon, and then billowed into an eldritch monster of ungodly size (hi, Yuuka!)((kind of like this post huh)). 

I was so fucking hooked on IM. I went back to school with theories buzzing about my brain as to what was going to end up happening, my mind wandering to the latest chapter and the bits I thought were cool, actually having the drive to focus and actually learn something about story structure in English Literature. I suddenly had the tiniest flame of interest in creating. Maybe one day I could write fanfic, and do my tiny part in expanding the universe of fan-content.

Regardless of the fact that my own attempts at conjuring stories weren’t successful (for a while), IM was there to be read throughout my last years of Normal Schooling, and it served as both a rock and an escape from the stress of school. I laughed with the jokes, I took Marisa’s death harder than the sum total of Harry Potter’s entire bodycount, and I could never hear Soulja Boi without thinking of Mima trolling Satori.

Just like how Touhou expanded my gaming and cultural horizons, Imperfect Metamorphosis expanded my horizon with Literature. I got into reading Neil Gaiman’s work, I read some Lovecraft, I consumed all kinds of works of fiction, across a multitude of genres, which all felt, in some way, like I was reading them because of IM. I mean I only started watching Madoka, and any anime beyond that, because of Resonance Days. Interesting way of coming across a show filled to the brim with spoilers.

It’s been three years since you put Imperfect Metamorphosis onto hiatus, and I have never read anything that has filled me with such emotion to the same extent. Other things have come close, some of them were even written by other people! (the most recent mega-update of Walpurgis Nights hit me particularly hard). And Swiftly Descending Darkness has been such a great read thus far, the slowly ramping tension is so. god. damned. good.

And as I think I mentioned a while back, I finally managed to start grinding out a touhou fic at my own, absolutely glacial, pace. I always find myself asking “is this canon to Touhou, or is it just canon to IM?”. The line has forever blurred in my mind.

I’m not asking anyone to read my work. This isn’t a plea for you to return to the original IM at any speed, I just wanted to say thank you.

Thank you for writing Imperfect Metamorphosis. For the work that’s been a steady constant throughout the vast, vast majority of this decade. For inspiring a wealth of emotions and ideas in the mind of a British guy who you’ll never meet. For just, plain writing a good story.

And for making Marisa the biggest badass to grace the land.

@diggertron, dude, you honestly have me feeling pretty humbled right now. I have to admit, it’s getting harder and harder not to see anything but the flaws when I look back on IM or RD, to the point when anyone compliments me about my writing my reflexive response is to be self-deprecating about my weaknesses, but this has helped me gain some more perspective about my older work, and for that I thank you, and am glad you have stuck around for so many years.

009 Re: Cyborg - Manga

-This seems like it will basically just be storyboards for the film. Luckily, the art is really good so far! In a way, it will be nice to experience this story without the sometimes ugly CGI. I think Re:Cyborg is my favorite modernized Cyborg 009 attempt so reading this should be fun.

-Awe, they got rid of Joe’s random Japanese girlfriend. While I appreciate that they’re trimming the fat it seems kind of unrealistic to me that Joe would have no friends at all. He’s such a nice guy! Maybe he would be shy in a normal, school environment?

-The cyborgs’ powers are enhanced here but different enhancements than God’s War. I feel like 003 changes the most from adaptation to adaptation. In this one she can “detect” Joe’s memories somehow.

-I can’t help but think of Twilight when Joe says he’s been going through high school over and over again. Joe = Edward Cullen. Kinda confused about his age anyway. In God’s War he was working as an archaeology assistant which you would at least need to be in college for...

-I think this Chang Changku is the best Chang Changku. They give him a chance to be a badass and his eyes and nose aren’t as cartoony for once.

It’s always really uncomfortable to me when there’s a sex/kissing scene and the dude is fully clothed. Equal opportunity fanservice please!! 

-Pyunma “becomes an archaeologist to research material for a novel he’s writing” which seems pretty unrealistic to me. Interviewing an archaeologist sure...but becoming one just to write a novel would be a TON of work 

-Lololol when the “angel” girl appears the translator wrote “For what reason has this girl appeared?...If any!” Accurate. She pretty much appears for no reason...

-Seeing Jet fly a...jet is still pretty weird. It’s like Sonic the Hedgehog driving a car. 

-It’s weird that they made Jet all “Rah rah America” in this. He never really struck me as extremely patriotic before?

-You can tell this was adapted from a film because a lot of the chapters are just dialogue-less fight scenes. 

-Characters that destroy their clothes whenever they fight (The Hulk and Geronimo here) are pretty silly. Please just don’t wear a shirt...

-I didn’t really notice this until reading the manga version but it’s kinda sad that they just get Pyunma out of the way almost immediately. They’re about to board a submarine and that would be a great opportunity to show his powers. We never get to see this version of him use his abilities :’( 

-It’s funny, I’ve never considered 009 a “speed” hero like The Flash but that’s essentially what he is. Sure he has other powers, but his acceleration mode is definitely his main go-to. 

-Okay I just need to gush. Honestly? This version of Cyborg 009 is GREAT. Everyone looks badass while still looking like themselves, the friendship/romantic chemistry is there, the action’s great, and the mystery is compelling (even though we don’t really get a satisfying answer). I just think it succeeds where other modern attempts (the graphic novel and the Netflix shows) failed. 

-The ending here is slightly different and still completely lost on me. They imply that the “angel’s” wings are like the cyborgs’ scarves? Whaaaa? Yeah this ending still reminds me of the Neon Genesis Evangelion “Congratulations!” ending...

Sora’s car was an older, dark blue Toyota (“It’s a corolla”, Sora told him, with a big smile. “The best car ever made.”), with a lot and lot of stuff in the backseat.

“You just offered me a ride in the middle of the night after just meeting me.”

 “And you accepted it, so what if I was a serial killer?” Sora shot back, raising his eyebrows at him.

 But I know you, kinda, Riku’s mind argued back, but there was no way he was ever going to say that.

 “Fair”, he ended up saying. Sora hummed, clearly pleased with his comeback, and started to drive toward Garden Park.

 They didn’t talk for a while, and with Sora looking at the road, Riku studied him for askance. How had he not realised who he was at first? Of course Sora had changed, all people did as they grew up, but he still looked so characteristically like his younger self it was almost ridiculous.

 Sitting right there, Riku realised that this was the first time in fifteen years they had been this close to each other with both of them being aware of it.

 Though, it seemed, that while Riku remembered Sora, Sora had no idea who Riku was.

 …at the same time, it was a huge relief, but it also made the whole situation a lot, lot more awkward.

 “So, are you on a second year or something?” Sora asked suddenly.

“Or higher?”

 “Second, yeah”, Riku nodded, trying to not to sound like he had been caught off guard.

“You’re first year, right?”

 “Do I look like it?” Sora asked, patting his cheeks lightly.

“Man, I thought that I had already gotten rid of my babyface.”

 No, it’s just because I know you’re younger than me, Riku thought.

 God, this was horrible.

 “So, um, what are you studying?” Riku tried to change the subject.

 It worked, because Sora’s face lit up at that so much it was outright adorable.

 “I’m going to be a homeroom teacher!” he announced.

Then it was Sora talking about his studies and all of that stuff for the rest of the ride, and Riku was honestly relieved that Sora did the talking. That way there was less of opportunities for Riku to say something weird.

 The trip to Garden Park was a lot shorter by car than by foot, and soon Sora parked in front of Riku’s apartment complex.

 “I’m sorry, I ended up babbling the whole time again”, Sora apologized, rubbing the back of his head.

 “It’s okay”, Riku hurried to say.

“It was nice to listen at.”

 He took his bag, and opened the door.

 “Oh, so, I should have few dollars in here”, Riku remembered, and opened his bag.

“For gas, since you had to drive all the way here-“

 “Nah, keep it, I live around here too”, Sora said.

“So I would’ve driven the distance anyway. Buuuuut, you could use that few dollars to buy me a coffee.”

 Sora smiled at Riku very, very, very brightly, that even the thought of saying no made Riku feel like a complete garbage.

 “Sure”, Riku managed to say.

“Tomorrow?”

 “Tomorrow”, Sora nodded.

“I’m free after three, see you then!”

 Riku ran from the car to the canopy, and he stood there and watched as Sora drove away, the backlights of the car shining through the heavy rain.

 The car drove to other side of the large football field in front of Riku’s house, and parked in front of an apartment there.

 Of course, Riku sighed. Of course.

 As the time went by, first few days, then a whole week, then two weeks and then a month, it became painstakingly clear that Sora had absolutely no idea who Riku was.

 And it made the whole note-thing even more awkward.

 “Riku, you need to tell him”, Kairi said to him when Riku put the envelope in the mail.

“He’s going to figure it out sooner or later, now that you are actually hanging out.”

 “No, he isn’t”, Riku said, even though he knew Kairi was right. She was always right, somehow.

 Kairi rolled her eyes.

 “Whatever you say”, she muttered.

 Riku tried to act natural when he saw the letter in Sora’s hands next week.

 “What’s that?” he asked, putting his sweating hands in his pockets.

 “Oh, this?” Sora looked up from the letter and smiled.

“It’s from my friend!”

 Friend.

 “What are they writing?” Riku asked, even though he knew exactly what the note said.

 “Not much”, Sora answered, opening the envelope. He laughed softly.

“It’s a bit of a funny story.”

 “Oh?” Riku felt his face heating up a bit from embarrassment, and he could only hope that Sora didn’t notice anything.

 “Yeah, it started when I was like four or something”, Sora said.

“Someone sent me peanut butter cups in mail and then started sending me other stuff as well and these cute little notes. I got this for my sixth birthday”, Sora lifted his necklace for Riku to see it.

 “So…you don’t know who they are?” Riku did his best to sound innocent.

 Sora shook his head.

“They’ve never signed the notes”, he said.

“If the handwriting hadn’t been clearly kid’s writing, I would’ve assumed it was only my parents playing a game with me. And Roxas said it isn’t him, either.”

 “Roxas?”

 “My cousin”, Sora explained.

“He lived nearby when we we’re kids, so we played a lot together.”

 Roxas could only be the blonde kid Riku had seen accompanying Sora everywhere, then, Riku assumed.

 “And you still get these notes?” Riku asked, feeling more and more awkward by every word he let out of his mouth.

 “Yep! Every week!” Sora announced happily.

“My parents always sent them to me from their house.”

 Sora took out the note from the envelope, as well as the package of the soda gummies Riku had put in there.

 “Oh, these are my favourites!” Riku looked intentionally to every other direction than to Sora.

 “What do you do with the notes?” he wanted to hit himself from asking that before he got to stop himself.

“I mean, you have gotten them for past fifteen years. That must be a lot of them.”

 Sora looked at him like Riku was a complete idiot.

“I keep them, of course”, he answered as it was obvious.

 Of course.

 “Riku, are you okay? You’re very red.”

 At least, Riku had thought after that conversation, things wouldn’t get even more awkward.

Oh boy, was he wrong, he realised two months and a week after Sora giving him a ride home for the first time, while they were sitting in Sora’s car again, leaning over the gearbox, Sora’s mouth against Riku’s and his hands in Riku’s hair, twisting and tugging as Riku felt hot, too hot, Sora’s lips and breath burning him.

 “Are you free on the weekend?” Sora asked, as he stopped kissing Riku for a few seconds, so Riku wouldn’t burst in flames.

 “Oh, um, no, I’m sorry”, Riku sucked in cool air.

“It’s my mom’s birthday on Saturday.”

 “Oh”, Sora sounded disappointed, but only for a second.

“Do your parents live far away?”

 “Not too far”, Riku answered. And he let his mouth run him without his permission again.

“Would you want to come with?”

 Riku’s parents loved Sora. That didn’t surprise Riku at all. Sora was one of those people who were impossible not to love (and besides, Riku was in that boat too, so he had no right to judge anyone else).

And it went absolutely fantastic. Sora was being the perfect guest and a perfect boyfriend someone took home for the first time, and they were all having a good time.

 But then the accident happened.

 They were talking about something, Riku wasn’t really paying attention, but he did hear how his mother asked where Sora was from.

 “From Destiny Isles”, Sora answered.

“It’s a small town more South from here.”

 “Oh, I know!” Riku’s mom smiled.

“We used to live there too!”

 Riku saw how Sora looked at him briefly. Riku knew why. Sora had told him where he lived, and Riku had only ever told him about living in Twilight Town.

Riku was sweating under his clothes.

 “Really?” Sora said to Riku’s mom.

 “We moved away after I got a new job in here”, she told him.

“I think it was when Riku was at second grade?”

 She looked at Riku, and so did Sora, more openly now.

 “Yeah, at second grade”, Riku answered, somehow managing to sound calm.

“I started the third grade in here.”

 “You never told me that”, Sora said, because of course he did.

 “I was going to”, Riku lied.

“It slipped my mind somehow.”

 He knew this was getting completely ridiculous, and so did his dad, who looked at Sora and then again at Riku, and Riku saw him raising his eyebrows in a way that could only tell that he had made the connection.

 Riku looked back at him in a way that he hoped could only say “don’t you dare to say anything”.

 It seemed to work, because his dad didn’t say anything. Instead he offered everyone more cake, which distracted Sora from the topic.

Riku slumped at his chair, ignoring Kairi’s words ringing in his head.

 It couldn’t get worse than this. There was no way.

But somehow, when they were at Sora’s apartment two weeks later, laying in the bed while watching cartoons from Netflix, Sora resting his head over Riku’s chest and Riku with his fingers slowly combing Sora’s hair, it did that.

 “Hey”, Sora lifted his head a bit.

“Roxas found out that we’re dating now, and he told me to drag you along when I would visit the next time.”

“Sure”, Riku said, because he couldn’t say no either.

 He had been right about Roxas being the blonde kid.

 Just like Sora, Roxas somehow was just an evolved version of his child self, which made Riku think it probably ran in the family.

If Riku had been awkward before, he had no idea what he was now.

 Especially when Roxas, upon seeing Riku, looked at him with uncomfortably piercing eyes.

 “Have I met you before?” he asked Riku, who had now turned into a human shaped pool of sweat with only his clothes keeping him together.

 “Maybe”, Riku answered, because he was sure that Roxas could see if he lied.

 “Riku lived here as a kid too!” Sora told Roxas.

“So you might’ve met somewhere before he moved away.”

 Roxas squinted his eyes at Riku.

 “Really now”, he said, as a statement, not as a question. Riku was sure that unlike Sora, Roxas had not forgotten him.

Roxas did not say anything for the whole visit, for Riku’s relief, but he kept glaring at him very suspiciously for the entire time.

Sora did not notice, thank god.

“Hey, Riku?” Sora tugged his hand.

“Can you show me the house you lived in?”

 Riku knew that if he lied now, it would later come and bit him in the ass.

 “It was that house”, he pointed across the backyard of Sora’s parents house, right across the field. Sora squinted his eyes.

 “No way”, he laughed.

“This close to us?”

 “Yeah”, Riku said.

“Pretty crazy, right?”

 Kairi’s words played in a loop inside his head.

 He couldn’t keep up living like this, Riku thought when they got back, and Sora happily ate the mini Reese’s bites Riku had put in the envelope, reading the small note over and over again, tracing his fingers absentmindedly over the paper.

 So Riku formed a plan.

 Sora lost his keychain somewhere in the campus, so Riku spent one whole night looking for one exactly like it to put in the next letter. He put only in Sora’s favourite candy, tickets to the movie Sora said he had wanted to see, and Riku honestly thought he was being obvious.

 But no. Apparently it was not enough.

 “I’m pretty sure Roxas is lying to me”, Sora told him one day. Riku frowned at him.

 “Why do you think so?”

 “Because he had told me all these years that he isn’t the one sending the notes!” Sora explained.

“But who else would know these things? Like really, think about it, I told him about losing the keychain over the phone and we talked about the movie and he absolutely knows what candy I like! We’ve known each other for our whole lives! Even the very first note had peanut butter cups with it and I love peanut butter cups!”

 Riku didn’t know what to say anymore.

 “Sora…” he started, hesitating.

“I’m…pretty sure Roxas isn’t the one sending them.”

 “Are you?” Sora gave him a confused look, tilting his head questioningly.

“How?”

 “You know I used to live at Destiny Isles too?” Riku said.

“In the house on the other side of the field from yours?”

 “Yes?” Sora said.

“Of course, because I’m honestly baffled we haven’t met each other before. I’m pretty sure I would’ve seen you at least once, because it isn’t a big place and you lived so close! Like seriously, where have you been all my life?”

 Sora laughed, but Riku knew this was it.

 “Hiding from you”, he said, making Sora stop laughing instantly.

 “What?” he asked, now even more confused than before.

“What do you mean?”

 Five minutes later Sora was still laughing.

 “Oh my god, Riku”, he cackled, trying to stop his almost maniac giggling, and succeeding in it for three seconds before breaking up again.

“I can’t believe you’ve been sending me gifts for fifteen years because you were scared of Roxas.”

 “I was not scared of Roxas”, Riku tried to defend himself.

“They were an apology gifts!”

 “But you didn’t even do anything!” Sora wheezed.

“I was the one who did something!”

 “…what do you mean?” Riku was not following Sora at all.

“Didn’t I break the aircraft and make you cry?”

 “No no no, or like, yes, but no, oh my god”, Sora leaned his face in his hands and breathed hard.

“My uncle had to go inside, and he told us to not to fly the aircraft without him, but we did anyway, and I accidentally flied it straight towards you and you swatted it away so it wouldn’t hit your face! And I started crying because now my uncle was going to know we had not obeyed him and he was going to be mad at us!”

 Oh. That was exactly the part that had faded from Riku’s memory, and apparently, Sora in turn remembered everything else what had happened, but not Riku.

 “I just remember your cousin glaring at me so hard, so I just assumed that he was angry at me and I had made you cry”, Riku muttered, cheeks burning.

 “Oh my god”, Sora said again, finally getting himself somewhat composed.

“That’s just what Roxas looked like. He was awfully shy as a kid and thought that looking angry would keep others from coming to talk to him.”

 “Oh”, was really all that Riku had to say. Sora grinned at him widely, and took Riku’s hand to his own.

 “Well?” Sora said.

“Are you still going to buy me presents every week?”

 “It’s not like I have a reason to stop now”, Riku said, sighing.

“It’s been over fifteen year already, after all.”

 “It did work, kinda, you know”, Sora said quietly to Riku that night. Riku’s bed was honestly a little too small for both of them, so they were squeezed together, the only blanket wrapped around them to keep them in place.

 Riku had already been mostly asleep, so he almost didn’t hear Sora speak.

 “Hm?” he cracked his eyes open, looking at Sora in the light of a nearby street light shining inside the room.

 “Giving the gifts”, Sora said, nuzzling closer to him.

“I’m not mad at you. Not that I ever was.”

 “What a relief”, Riku murmured.

“Now go to sleep or maybe I will be mad at you.”

 Sora laughed, recognizing the empty threat, and pressed his smile against Riku’s forehead.
