On the Unredeemed
Unredeemed villains are important in fiction. I feel like that needs to be said. There is a trend in recent years (probably since Wicked became a hit) of people wanting to see monsters redeemed. I'm not against that (per-se... glowers in Maleficent), but also, I feel like we do lose something when we lean into the idea that the monster gets to make good.
Fiction can be really useful for teaching us about life. I remember seeing a quote some time ago on Pinterest or something that said something along the lines of "fairytales are important not because they tell us dragons are real, but because they tell us that dragons can be slayed". That has been on my mind a lot recently when I see discussions about characters like Azula and (more recently) Ozai. They are fictional characters with super magic fire powers, but they represent something real- they represent the cycle of abuse in families, and while I understand the impulse to absolve someone as young as Azula, I think it's also important to tell the story where she isn't redeemed.
One reason that most Azula redemption stories bother me is because of the responsibility they tend to place on Zuko as her older brother, despite the fact that she victimized him probably more than anyone in her life (that we get to see. I don't think her soldiers believed her death threat for no reason). There are plenty of stories about the victims of abuse needing to be the bigger person to keep their families together and being villainized when they don't (I think by now we all understand that Terri was not the villain of Soul Food). We need stories about knowing when it's okay to walk away, and that illustrate the idea that "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb".
In a time when more people are talking openly about going low contact or completely cutting off family members- close family members- I personally think that seeing stories about coming out of the other side of it, of building a new family, healing from the past, and dealing with the residual guilt that comes with "turning your back on family" even when it's the right call, is helpful in the same way that those fairytales about slayable dragons are.
I'm not saying any of this to discourage Azula redemption stories. In fact I would love to see more. Stories that have Azula confronting what she did to the people she should have loved most, and have her considering what to do with the knowledge going forward, instead of just using her past abuse and mental health to gloss over the real harm she did. I want to see her grappling to accept the fact that no one- not her brother, not Iroh, not her friends- owes her forgiveness, and then dealing with all the complex emotions that come with just one of them actually forgiving her. But also, I want to see stories where Zuko gets to let go of his father and sister and go on to be supported in that decision. Because to him, they were dragons, and they were slain.

The REAL Story Behind The Crooked Man And The 7 Other Fairy Tales & Nursery Rhymes With *Even More* Disturbing Backstories
It was 4 years ago that we first met the Crooked Man.
With a *sickening* reveal via rottweiler fit for the latest season of Rupaul’s Drag Race, the suited gentleman staggered his way from The Conjuring 2 (2016) into our nightmares.
But his ashy undertones, gnashing teeth, and general aura of “I’m a demon, or something, which means I have no real motive apart from wanting to kill you” isn’t the only thing that fits the film far too well.
The Conjuring universe is the definition of ‘based on a true story’. And the Crooked Man fits the brief.
In the opening scenes of the film we see lovable and bulliable Billy stutter through a nursery rhyme:
There was a crooked man, and he went a crooked mile, He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile; He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse, And they all liv'd together in a little crooked house.
Accompanied by a totally-cursed-i-mean-just-look-at-it zoetrope (it’s a bit like a mini projector that shows you a moving cartoon), Billy introduces us to one of the handful of extra entities terrorising London’s most haunted house. You can discover more about the true story of 284 Green Street which inspired The Conjuring 2 here.
But Billy also introduces us to a real nursery rhyme inherent in British culture - and British history.
Yes, the nursery rhyme, like many, is based on dark and twisted reality softened for a bedtime story. And amongst this history was a real person. Unfortunately, the Crooked Man is not the only fairy tale monster or nursery rhyme entity that will be haunting your dreams.
Are y’all tucked in?
Tumblr media
The Crooked Man
The nursery rhyme was first told sometime in the 17th century during the reign of King Charles I. But the Crooked Man was not the Stuart King - it was allegedly inspired by Scottish general Sir Alexander Leslie and the covenant he signed.
The covenant secured religious and political freedom for Scotland despite prevailing animosity between the English and the Scottish.
The crooked stile is the awkward alliance between the two parliaments and the crooked house refers to the collective union the Scottish and English lived together in. But the ‘crooked’ part works on another level, too.
The great recoinage of late 17th century meant sixpences - which feature in the rhyme - were made of very thin silver and thus easy to bend.
An alternative origins story links it back to Lavenham, a village in Suffolk (England). The half-timbered houses leaned at off angles as if supporting each other, creating a crooked aesthetic that matches the nursery rhyme.
The Pied Piper Of Hamelin
I distinctly remember hearing the story of the Pied Piper when I was about 7 years old. I was there, sat crossed-legged on the wooden floor in assembly and listening to the headteacher tell us the tale of the musical maverick with an overhead projector.
I remember it being far more nostalgic and not so traumatising.
The story goes that sometime in the 13th century a peculiar man dressed in brightly-coloured clothes (pied clothing) was hired by the town to rid them of the rats with his pipe-playing abilities. Hamelin had been suffering from an infestation that would threaten the locals with the plague. The piper was to play his pipe, entice the rats with his magical music, and lead them to a river where they would promptly drown.
He was hired and he did the job - but they didn’t pay up.
The piper couldn’t exactly refund his services. Instead, he sought vengeance, luring away the children of the town with his magical pipe. He waited until Saint John and Paul’s day where the adults would be in the church, dressed in green like a hunter, and played his pipe. The children of the village swarmed to him, all 130 of them, following him out of the town and into a cave. Three were unable to follow due to being blind and deaf and thus told the villagers what had happened.
The real story:
Some versions of the story claimed he made them walk into a river, others claim he returned them after payment. But what we do know for sure is that there is a street in Hamelin called Bungelosenstrasse. On this street - ‘the street without drums’ according to translation - the children were seen last. No music and no dancing is allowed on this road.
Tumblr media
Bluebeard
We open on a typical Medieval scene: a powerful and wealthy man is looking for a young wife to replace the last one who mysteriously went missing. Bluebeard’s been through quite a few women, actually, but it’s his latest bae that stars in this story. Bluebeard marries his neighbour’s daughter and goes on a business trip.
He tells her he can stay alone in their house but she cannot open a certain door.
Of course, she opens the door and finds the corpses of his ex-wives. Her and her sisters band together to kill Bluebeard, showering themselves with a wealthy inheritance.
The real story:
This tragic tale of murder and mystery is unfortunately all too true.
There are many alleged origins of the folktale. Let’s start with the Medieval ruler of Brittany, Conomor the Cursed: his new wife agreed to marry him to prevent him from invading her father’s lands but accidentally walked in on a room full of his dead, old wives. She was visited by their ghosts who warn him if she falls pregnant, he will kill her, preventing a prophecy that claims he will be killed by his own son.
She gets knocked up, gives birth, and then she gets her block knocked off.
An alternative inspiration could be a similarly brutal figure: Gilles de Rais (15th century). He was accused of murdering approximately 140 children who suddenly went missing in the Nantes countryside. He was condemned to death and executed in 1440.
Tumblr media
Snow White
It’s one of the most popular fairytales of all time.
The story goes that a queen gives birth to a baby girl but dies in childbirth. The king’s new wife is wicked and vain, asking her magic mirror ‘who is the fairest one of all?’ on a daily basis. When the child turns seven, the mirror changes its answer from the queen to the child, Snow White (yeah, that’s weird). The queen hires a huntsman to kill Snow White, but she begs for mercy and says she will live in the woods and he can pretend he killed her.
She finds shelter in a cottage belonging to seven dwarfs who agree to let her stay as a maid until the evil queen asks the mirror her favourite question. It claims Snow White is still alive and the fairest of them all. She goes through several methods of attempting to kill Snow until she falls into a deep coma. The dwarfs host a funeral, a prince comes along, and he, uhhh, kisses what he assumed to be a corpse and she is awakened.
They then get hitched but don’t invite the queen to the wedding. The queen asks the mirror yet again the identity of the fairest, assuming Snow is well and truly deceased but the mirror breaks the bad news to her again. The queen tries to kill her once more but Snow’s hubby forces her to wear red-hot iron slippers and dance in them until she dies.
There’s a lot going on here.
But rather than unpacking everything that's wrong with all of this *gestures to everything*, let’s just get to the dark reality beneath it all.
The real story:
The inspiration is generally deemed to be Margaretha von Walbeck, a young woman who had a terrible relationship with her stepmother. She was forced to move to Brussels and fell in love with Phillip II of Spain, a romance not popular with her parents.
Suddenly, however, Margaretha died. Rumour has it she was poisoned.
Another detail of her life also links her to Snow White: her father’s copper mines were often filled with child labourers whose growth was stunted by working in them, mirroring the ‘dwarves’ in the story.
But Margaretha is not the only contender: Maria Sophia Margaretha Catharina Freifräulein von Erthal *inhale* also hated her stepmother. This - and the fact that her stepmother was given a mirror as a gift by her husband - also ties her to Snow White.
Tumblr media
Hansel And Gretel
It’s possibly the most simple fairy tale up for discussion: a brother and sister are sent out to the woods by their father. The mother asked for him to send them away so they can survive a famine. But Hansel uses stones to trace their steps back home. One day, however, he uses crumbs. They get eaten by the local wildlife, so the kids get lost.
They then discover a witch's house, a gingerbread cottage. She lures ‘em in, fattens up Hansel, and prepares to feast on his flesh. The kids plot against her, throw her in the oven, and steal her stuff before heading back to live with their father.
Okay, so maybe this one isn’t based on a true story. It’s based on true stories. Yep - plural.
The real story:
Child abandonment and infanticide was pretty common during plagues, famines, and all other circumstances of poverty. In fact, this particular tale is believed to come from the Great Famine which stretched across Europe from 1315 to 1317. Child abandonment surged during this time.
Rapunzel
Turns out Disney lopped off a lot of Rapunzel’s real story to make it a family friendly movie. Yep, this is a weird one.
A pregnant woman begins to crave a kind of salad leaf (Campanula rapunculus, also called rapunzel) in the garden of the house next door. He goes out to nick it but is caught by the homeowner - a witch. She says he can take the rapunzel, but in return he must give her the child once it is born.
The witch raises Rapunzel as her own but locks her away in a tower when she is 12 to protect her from the outside world.
A prince eventually rocks up and decides to climb her immensely long hair. Unknown, probably PG-13 and probably not consensual acts happen. Still, given it's the medieval era they agree to get hitched after escaping.
The witch discovers her plan, cuts off her hair, exiles Rapunzel, and uses the locks as bait for the prince before throwing him to the briar roses below where he is promptly blinded. Rapunzel gives birth to twins and the prince finds her, identifying her only by her voice. Her tears restore his voice.
The real story:
Being kidnapped or being kept hidden away from the rest of the world is pretty common, well, all of the time. But Saint Barabara, a Greek saint, was the main inspiration for the tale.
She was locked away in a tower in Turkey in the third century by her father in an attempt to protect her Christianity. But her Pagan father’s efforts did not succeed and she discovered the ways of Jesus. She escaped but she was eventually caught by her father who then tortured and beheaded her.
Religious intolerance, y’all.
Tumblr media
Beauty And The Beast
Time for another Disney classic with a heavily edited plotline.
The father of a family seeks shelter in a grand palace during a storm. In the morning before he leaves he takes a rose from the garden but is caught by a beast who threatens to kill him for nicking a flower. But the beast agrees not to kill him if his daughter takes his place instead.
The daughter moves to the palace but asks to go see her family for a week. She is then convinced by her sisters to stay at home. A magic mirror then reveals the beast is dying because she isn’t with him. She returns to him and her love breaks the curse that makes him appear so monstrous.
The real story:
Petrus Gonsalvus (1637-1618) was born with hypertrichosis. This meant he had a thick layer of hair all over his body - his physical difference didn’t go down very well. He was kept as a ‘wild man’ in a cage and fed raw meat.
When he was 10 years old he was gifted to the king of france. But he wasn’t kept as a ‘beast’. He was educated like a nobleman and was taught to read, write, and speak three different languages. He was then married off to the daughter of a court servant.
He was married to her for over 40 years and they had seven children together.
(Aww.)
Three Blind Mice
Three blind mice, three blind mice, See how they run, see how they run, They all ran after the farmer’s wife, Who cut off their tails with a carving knife, Did you ever see such a thing in your life, As three blind mice?
The real story:
It's one of those nursery rhymes you grow up with - and 17 years later you realise how traumatic it actually is.
This nursery rhyme can be traced back to the reign of Bloody Mary (16th century) who had a tricky relationship with Protestants. And by that I mean she burnt them alive, hence the nickname.
The three blind mice represented three Protestant bishops who may have been blinded before their execution or spiritually blind for following Catholicism. Another reference to Queen Mary was her as a farmer’s wife.
Her husband, Philip of Spain, owned several estates and thus was technically a farmer.

Down, boy! || Eddie & Bea
TIMING: Current-ish
PARTIES: @beatrice-blaze & @specterchasing
LOCATION: Illusions of Grandeur
SUMMARY: Eddie literally runs from his problems and Bea talks some sense into him.
CONTENT WARNINGS: Suicidal ideations tw, sibling death tw.
The shops and faces lining ‘Freak Alley’ flew by in colorful blurs as Eddie’s feet slapped against the sidewalk. An over-the-shoulder glance let him know that the hellhound he attracted at a nearby cemetery was gaining on him. Its size led him to believe he’d somehow lucked out and stumbled upon a runt, or perhaps a pup if hellhounds underwent adolescence. Eddie didn’t know and, in the moment, he frankly didn’t care; it could clearly still breathe fire.
Wicked heat kissed the soles of his shoes and Eddie’s next step became more of a leap. “Oh, fuck. Oh, fuck, oh, fuck, oh, fuck,” he chanted as he darted across the street. Panic set it, but it wasn’t the sole cause of Eddie’s heart beating at break-kneck speed. A laugh erupted from his chest. He liked the threat of imminent danger. No thrill on earth matched the anxious euphoria of knowing his next breath might be his last. A hellhound would make for an interesting obituary, at least, even if the local paper reduced it to an errant wolf.
Eddie skidded to a halt in front of a building, he didn’t bother to stop and read any signage that might tell him the name of his safe haven. His hand gripped the door and  flung it open. Once inside, he pressed his back against the entrance to hopefully stop the hellhound from entering with force. Unfortunately, the dimwitted beast didn’t get the memo that it wasn’t welcome and launched its body against the door with considerable vigor once, twice…
Members of the crowd turned their heads toward the commotion. Apparently, Eddie was interrupting some kind of show. His eyes snapped to the stage, landing on an unexpectedly familiar face. “Nell’s sister? I thought she was in—”
Three times.
Eddie’s thoughts were interrupted when the impact of the hellhound's small, but dense, body threw the door open. The force sent him forward and into the crowd, albeit face-down on the floor. Eddie scrambled to his feet as a few of the crowd members shrieked at the sudden introduction of a wild beast. Chaos ensued as people scattered in search of an emergency exit. Eddie whipped around in time to see flames billowing from the dog’s mouth. A few seats, recently abandoned, caught fire.
In an attempt to rectify his mistake, Eddie bolted in the direction of a fire extinguisher. A moment later, the sprinkler system kicked on, drenching everyone in sight. Eddie marched closer to the hellhound and attacked it with a stream of white froth. “Fuck off!” he commanded as the beast caught a mouthful of foul chemicals. It reared back, whining as its head thrashed from side to side. But Eddie’s bright idea didn’t deter it for long. The hound stumbled forward and prepared for another attack.
Tumblr media
Freedom was a nasty concept to Beatrice. As a child, picking flowers and stealing moments with Leah was freedom. Teenaged Bea had found parties she snuck out to were freedom. Before she died, freedom had been her secrets, she had held freedom in clenched hands, hidden from her coven and family. Now, she had died and come back, her secrets revealed and discovered. Her freedom was not her secrets any longer, so what was it?
She had thought the stage was freedom until death and rebirth. It became a cage, a spectacle that could be used to see how different she had become. Deciding to reclaim it, to allow everyone to see who she was now, that tasted like an early summer morning. It had the stillness before a busy day, it had a moment of peace in it. It tasted like the beginnings of freedom, a taste she had begun to remember and enjoy in New York.
It did not taste like smoke, a flavor that had snuck into her mouth as she performed. Smoke had no place in her show now, not now that she couldn’t control the flames. Her element was no longer fire and smoke was no longer a flavor she could feel safe tasting. She was off the stage and stalking forward to the Hellhound as people rushed out of the theater.
She recognized the man in front of the hellhound vaguely, though she had no idea how. He was trying to smother the beast with a fire extinguisher and Bea couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Of course this is how her first performance since Adam would be.
Her shadows leapt out, tightening around the beast mouth, clamping it shut as others worked around it’s paws. “What the hell were you thinking bringing this into my business?” She’d have to call Nell to help her with this.
Tumblr media
Eddie watched in startled wonderment as shadows turned themselves into shackles around the hellhound’s paws. A muzzle of the same making wrapped around its jaws while it struggled against its newfound restraints. Smoke seeped out of the muzzle, but the fire was contained for the time being. Magic, he figured. Not cheap illusions, but actual magic.
He jumped at the sound of Beatrice’s voice demanding his attention.  Eddie already felt guilty before she spoke, now the feeling consumed him. He turned to face her with an apologetic expression. As far as he could tell, they were the only two people remaining inside the venue. No one would be around to see him be reprimanded, at least.
“It chased me,” Eddie explained with a helpless shrug. “What was I supposed to do, die in the street?” For someone who wanted to say he was sorry, the words didn’t come to him. He hated that about himself, the way he instinctively took a defensive stance when he felt cornered.
Tumblr media
The crashing realization that Nell might still be too ill to handle this hit Bea hard and fast. It was like a softball to the stomach as she remembered how grief could hurt a person’s magic, Nell could struggle to control this Hellhound and who was Bea to ask her sister to try to after everything happened? She would have to attempt to deal with herself and if it was too much, then she would call Nell.
The face of an apology with defense on their lips was something Bea was intimately familiar with. She had been that way, she occasionally was still that way, and while the familiarity softened her, a scowl had already found its way onto her face. “That is not at all what I said or implied.” Her arm swung out behind her, “This is the place you decided to run in. Did you see how many people were in here? What would the plan have been if I wasn’t here? Let the people here burn and hope for the best?” She didn’t know this man, but that didn’t stop her scolding tone. “How did you even get chased by a Hellhound?”
Tumblr media
With each question Bea asked him, Eddie’s guilt worsened. He never meant to hurt anyone, but he seemed to be paving the road to hell with his good intentions as of late. Regardless of what he did, it usually turned out to be a wrong move. For the moment, he elected to put his pity party on the back-burner. Bea didn’t know him and she likely wouldn’t harbor much sympathy for a grown man who nearly cost dozens of innocent people their lives. For that, he couldn’t blame her.
“I was, uh, at the cemetery down the road apiece,” he answered her most recent question, pointing his thumb in the direction he came from. “It was just kinda hanging out and didn’t like that I was too.” Eddie failed to mention that he tried to film it, and that he whistled for its attention in an attempt to get a clear shot of its face. The camera he used wound up as a substitute chew toy after it slipped out of his hand mid-sprint.
“I tried to hold the doors shut,” he ventured. “If you weren’t here, I—” Eddie’s gaze fell to the fire extinguisher in his hand. What a joke. “Yeah, I probably would’ve been the reason someone died tonight.” He chewed on the inside of his cheek as he looked at Bea again. “Thanks for not letting that happen.”
Tumblr media
A noise of frustration left Bea’s nose as she turned back to the Hellhound in front of her. Nell had a soft spot for them, it would be wrong if she just called Kaden here to kill it. It was a monster that could kill people, but her littlest sister liked them. It would hurt her to know Bea killed it without an attempt at some humane solution. She wasn’t particularly sure how to be humane to a monster, but she would figure it out.
“Are you new to this whole thing?” Bea asked tiredly. He had to be around Adam’s age, but he had none of the experience that had let Adam survive as long as he did from what she could see. Not that had done much in the end, had it? He was still gone. “Sometimes when you see something like this the best thing to do is give it space or call someone who is trained to take care of things like this.” The hunters she trusted in this town were struggling to survive or gone.
Bea leaned against the back of the seats nearest her, her exhaustion hitting her all at once. “There won’t always be someone like me there. What will you do then?” How will you survive?
Tumblr media
Bea seemed to be at the end of her rope, and a sneaking suspicion told Eddie he wasn’t the sole cause of her weariness. He thought about Nell and the contagiousness of grief. All at once, he became less concerned with self-pity. Compared to the Vurals, he had it easy. Eddie wished he could share that with them instead of dragging Bea down with his inability to make good decisions. He kept saying he would start being better for the people around him, when did he plan on actually doing it?
“No, I’m not new to this,” he answered truthfully. Whatever he said to Bea had a chance to get back to Nell. Eddie couldn’t afford to lie to her even if the lie was easier to hear than the truth. “Tonight just sucked.”
He considered her next question carefully. “I used to know.” Again, Eddie chose honesty. Until recently, he didn’t care what happened to him in situations like what happened tonight. Live or die, it didn’t matter. Part of him, and it was a big part, still felt that way, but now people cared about him. That made things murkier. “I guess I’d die if that happened.” Despite his inner turmoil, he sounded shockingly nonchalant. “I’m trying not to be okay with that.”
Tumblr media
For a moment, Bea almost laughed. Waves of optimism had carried her afloat that last few days, but now she felt the current shifting beneath her feet. There were only so many times she would claim that things would get better. She was exhausting herself carrying everyone else’s hope on her back, but she had tried it the other way before. She had seen what it made her and she refused to go back to that.
“You should know that you shouldn’t be doing stuff in this town alone, then.” Adam should have known, they should have forced him to take someone. Bea shook her head, trying to lose the ‘what if’ questions that did nothing but worsen her guilt.
Bea’s eyes snapped toward him, her exhaustion shoved away by the fire that entered her. She pushed herself away from the chairs, taking a step toward him. “Death doesn’t just affect you,” She whispered fervently. “When you die, you change something in everyone around you. They will never get back to who they were.”
Tumblr media
Bea had a point, Eddie realized that. White Crest sunk its teeth into anyone who dared underestimate how brutal it could be. Anyone except him, it seemed. For all his recklessness, he couldn’t get the town to live up to its reputation. Death didn’t want him back. “Yeah,” he quietly replied as his gaze fell to the floor.
Nex thing he knew, Bea seemed more vibrant than before. As she moved closer, he couldn’t tell if that was a good thing. Eddie glanced at the hellhound’s shadow-made shackles before locking eyes with her. Bea’s warning shook him. The part about his death affecting more than just him sounded a lot like similar words of caution given to him by both Nell and Morgan. But the rest, no one had ever phrased it like that before.
“I don’t want to hurt anyone,” Eddie said firmly. “But I don’t wanna hurt either.” He knew how selfish he sounded. For years, he relied on that selfishness when no one else bothered to prioritize him. “And no one can seem to tell me how to manage both.”
“Everyone thinks I’m perfectly content not caring whether I live or die, and I guess I can’t blame them. I even put on a good enough act to fool myself sometimes, but it’s bullshit.” His throat tightened as the truth poured out of him. “I hate feeling this way. All it does is make me miserable and piss everyone else off, which is kind of exhausting.” Eddie let out a mirthless laugh. “I’m bleeding out and everyone around me is yelling about how I’m staining the carpet.” He choked back the tears trying to form in his eyes.
Tumblr media
“No one can tell you, because you can’t.” Bea’s voice shook as she said it. There was no reason for her to lay things out for this man, yet here she was, because someone had to. “We hurt people, they hurt us, and we hurt ourselves.” She had been hurt by countless people, she had hurt countless people, and she had hurt herself. “It doesn’t make us bad people if we can learn from it.” She swallowed, “It makes us better if we learn how to forgive ourselves for the things we do.”
Bea closed her eyes for a moment, letting out a breath. That feeling he was talking about was something she understood well. “Sometimes people don’t know how to fix your bleeding, so they find something else to focus on. Blaming you isn’t fair, but it’s how they cope.” How many people have felt like this around here? How many people did she not see or help? “I think you might want to go to therapy, if you aren’t already,” She said with a shrug. “It can help. I go sometimes.” She went a lot in New York. She still went at least once a week, when the flashbacks were bad, she went twice.
Tumblr media
Nothing Bea said relieved Eddie of the ache in his chest, but he appreciated that she said it anyway. He was beginning to learn that, try as he might, he would never find a mystical cure for the pain of living. But, if he listened, he might learn how to cope with it. He forgave others easily, but turning that kindness inwards proved more difficult. “Does that… get easier with practice?” he asked.
For the past ten years, Eddie had been going to therapy. When Bea offered it as a suggestion, he nodded solemnly. “Yeah, it makes things a little easier.” But he couldn’t be completely honest with any of the professionals he’d seen, not about seeing ghosts or anything else related to the supernatural. It felt like wearing a muzzle. When they asked about his YouTube channel, he told them it was purely for entertainment. They were always impressed by the special effects.
“Anyway,” he said, forcing himself to shift gears. “Didn’t mean to, like, trauma dump or whatever” He never did, but it was becoming harder to keep it to himself. “Is there… anything I can do to help out around here? With the mess, I mean.”
Tumblr media
“Yeah, it does.” Bea wished there was a way to prepare people for the life that White Crest was leading them down, but there wasn’t. All you could do was tell people the truth and pick them back up when they fell. “It’s like any skill though, we all mess up eventually and you’re going to kick yourself for it. Sometimes things are going to happen and you won’t even be able to remember how to do it, but it’ll come back. It always does.”
There was a part of Bea who knew she shouldn’t be allowing herself to take someone else on, but here she was pulling someone else’s hope onto her back. Someone had to keep it safe and until they were able to, she would nurture it and treat it as though it was her own. Maybe this was her fatal flaw, the thing that would put her in the ground permanently, but until it proved as dangerous as it felt, she would flirt with it.
“Yep,” Bea grinned at him, nodding at the storage closet. “Go grab a broom. I’m going to call my sister to figure out what to do with this beastie and then I’m going to call my crew to help.” She went to walk away before pausing and looking over her shoulder, “Some days there will be too much to keep in, find people who can handle you at your worst and learn to help them too. Those people will always be with you, as long as you love them as much as they love you.”

The Long Way Around ~ Chapter 3
Link to previous part: https://bonjour-rainycity.tumblr.com/post/623036690414649344/the-long-way-around-chapter-2
Pairing: Jasper x Reader
Word count: 2040
Warnings: None
Jasper’s POV
The back door slams open as Rosalie enters the house. “Carlisle, how dare you?!” Her emotions slap me in the face. Fury, hurt, disappointment, grief.
Y/n is startled by the new, angry presence and drops into a defensive crouch.
“It’s okay,” I try to reassure her. “It’s just my sister.”
Emmett, who is only a step behind Rosalie, sees the new addition to our coven and eyes
her warily. I can tell he intimidates her, as does Rosalie’s anger, so I place myself in front of Y/n, blocking her view.
Rosalie stomps up the stairs in the direction of Carlisle’s study. Wordlessly, Emmett, Edward, and Esme follow. Usually, I would be there too, helping to diffuse the tension and anger. But today, and likely for the next eight months or so, I’m glued to Y/n’s side, highly hesitant to leave her alone to get into trouble. I also don’t want her to hear the fighting upstairs, as it could set her off. Until I get to know her and her emotional climate better, I want to avoid any potential upsetting situations. I just don’t know what’s going to set her off or how she’ll react.
“Let’s go outside,” I suggest, “and I can introduce you to the others.”
Y/n agrees, but I can feel her mental exhaustion. The four of us had spent the last six hours explaining everything there is to know about vampires, our laws, our specific family, special abilities, the need to keep a low profile, and what Y/n can expect as a newborn vampire. Needless to say, it all left her a bit overwhelmed.
We run into the forest and meet up with Alice, Arthur, and Bella, who weren’t as eager to get home as Rosalie and Emmett. I had warned Y/n about the approaching vampires so she doesn’t get defensive, but I can still feel her unease at being so outnumbered. Like a reflex, I relax her.
Alice steps forward first, introducing herself. “Hello, Y/n, welcome. I’m Alice, and this is my mate Arthur and my sister Bella. We’re so glad you’re here.”
Y/n nods, still relaxed. “Thank you, it’s nice to meet you all.”
“Did Rose kick you out,” Arthur questions with a laugh.
I grimace. “I just felt it best if we left. She’s really upset.”
Bella nods sagely. “Don’t be too hard on her. We really shouldn’t expect anything different, given the situation.”
Y/n’s unease returns. She shifts on her feet. “Did I cause a problem?”
“No, not at all.” Bella reassures her before I can. “Rosalie still has trouble accepting this life, and she’s upset on your behalf, thinking you’ll not want to accept it, either.”
“How are you doing with all this, by the way?” Alice chimes in, concern in her voice.
Y/n plays with her fingers, a startlingly human gesture. “It’s a lot to take in, I-” she heaves a sigh, and suddenly, she’s off.
Arthur jumps to grab her but she’s too quick and easily shakes him off with a fierce snarl.
Already breaking into a run after Y/n, I scent the air, relief flooding through me when I only smell a coyote. She must’ve caught the scent when she took the breath to speak. Immediately, I drop back, not wanting to cause her, or myself, any further distress. I still keep her in my line of sight and speed, though, unwilling to let her get too far away.
Bella comes to a swift stop at my side. “So this is what an actual newborn is like, huh?”
“Yep,” I nod grimly. “Just fine until they smell blood, and then all bets are off.”
“We’ll need to think of a cover story,” she reminds me. “People in town are starting to look for her. How did you explain this to the friends that brought her here?”
I make a face, guilty. “Carlisle says he ‘mildly drugged’ them.”
Bella purses her lips. “That’s risky. What if they remember?”
I shake my head. “Edward and Alice are watching closely. As of now, we’re in the clear.”
Y/n comes back to us then, hesitant. From her, I feel the thrill of the kill and slight embarrassment. “Coyotes taste better than deer, at least.”
Walking up to us, Alice chuckles. “Yeah, but they put up a bit more of a fight.” Y/n then notices the tears in her shirt, and shifts sheepishly.
“Don’t worry,” Alice smiles, taking Y/n by the arm. “I’ll pull up Pinterest and you can show me some styles you like. Rose and I will go into town tomorrow and get you some essentials.”
Good-naturedly, Arthur rolls his eyes. He assumes, like me, that Alice’s version and anyone else’s version of ‘essentials’ varies greatly.
“Thank you,” Y/n replies. I can tell she means it.
Then I feel her hesitancy, and I wonder what she’ll say next.
“You mentioned my friends…” she starts slowly, playing with her fingers once again. “What happened to them, exactly? I don’t remember that night very well.”
The four of us are quiet, all waiting for someone else to fill in the blanks. I expect it to be Alice, since she’s the one who had the vision. But she doesn’t offer any information, choosing to keep what she knows to herself. I wonder why? After five long seconds of silence, I can’t take it anymore and jump in.
“You really should ask Carlisle or Edward, as they were the only ones there when you arrived.” Upon feeling her disappointment, I continue. “But from what I know, your friends brought you here in hopes of getting you medical attention and Edward made sure they got home safely.”
“And what do they think happened to me?”
I swallow, preparing myself for the hurt about to slam into me. “That you died from your wounds.”
Even prepared for it, the intensity of her feelings nearly chokes me.
“And my family?” Her voice wavers, though of course she can’t shed any tears.
“The same.” Hesitantly, and hoping she doesn’t decide to rip my arm off, I put my hand on her shoulder and channel comfort. “It’s the only way, I’m sorry.”
She takes steadying breaths and unknowingly accepts my comfort. “I get it. Even if I hadn’t become...this...I would be dead. That guy got me pretty good, from what I can remember.”
“Is he still out there,” Arthur questions, looking at me.
I shake my head. “Edward took care of it. The authorities should be on his trail by now.”
“Good.” Y/n’s voice is quiet, her emotions conflicting.
Alice’s eyes glaze over as she’s caught in a vision. Arthur positions himself at her side, looking around warily. But there’s nothing to fear. Alice only sees that Rosalie is done yelling at Carlisle and it’s clear to go back.
When we get back to the house we see Emmett on the back porch with Edward, checking out his new scar.
“Looks wicked,” Emmett says with a grin. “Piss off the newbie a couple more times and you can twin with Jasper.” Emmett eyes me playfully, causing me to roll my eyes.
From Y/n, I feel shame. She approaches Edward slowly. “I’m sorry I bit you.”
Ever the gentleman, Edward shrugs it off. “I shouldn't have grabbed you like that. I can see how it would have been frightening.”
Still, Y/n doesn’t feel better. “I’ll try not to do it again.”
Thankfully, Emmett jumps in to alleviate the awkwardness. “I’m Emmett.” With a winning smile, he holds out his hand. When Y/n shakes it, his smile widens. “Killer grip. We’ll have to go sometime.”
She scrunches up her face. “Go?”
“You know. Fight.”
Y/n chuckles warily, shaking her head. “I’m not much of a fighter. If I was, maybe I wouldn’t’ve gotten stabbed.” She makes a face at the memory, but Emmett’s good nature doesn’t fade.
“That’s okay, we’ll teach you.” At that, he sends a nod my way. I would rather hold off on teaching the most dangerous vampire in our coven how to further take us down, but that’s just me.
Edward snorts.
“C’mon, let’s get you some new clothes and a shower.” Alice gently takes Y/n’s arm and drags her inside. Arthur and I follow closely.
Politely, Bella waited until Y/n got inside to fuss over Edward’s new scar. I feel her annoyance and anger, likely towards Y/n, and hold back a grimace. She’ll have to get used to it, I think, knowing Edward can still hear me. There’s a lot more where that came from. Now, I feel Edward’s annoyance. But he’s dealt with newborns before, albeit a while ago, so it shouldn’t come as a shock.
While Y/n is in the shower, I take the opportunity to go to my room and change clothes. From a floor below and a couple of doors down, I feel Rosalie’s deep sadness, hurt, and anger. I sigh, knowing I can’t ignore my sister’s feelings even if she probably wants me to. Maybe she’ll let me help. I head downstairs. I knock on the open door and lean against the frame. “Want to talk about it?”
Rosalie sits, unmoving on her bed, staring out the window. She’s quiet for a long time. When she finally speaks, her voice is soft, vulnerable. “I know it’s too late and my sadness does no one any good. But I can’t help it.”
I take this as acceptance of my presence and walk slowly into the room to stand by her shoulder. “She’s not you, Rosalie.”
“I know that,” she snaps. Then, she takes a deep breath. “This life is just a hard pill to swallow. And she never even got a choice.” I place a hand on her shoulder, which she doesn’t acknowledge. But, she doesn’t bite my arm off when I send her soothing emotions, so I take that as a win.
“I’ll apologize to Carlisle soon,” she continues, sounding resigned. “I know he only does this from the goodness of his heart. It’s not his fault we disagree so strongly.” Then, she chuckles ruefully. “Maybe Y/n will like this life.”
“Maybe.”
From down the hall, I hear the water turn off. “I better go.”
Rosalie rolls her eyes. “You don’t have to hover all the time. She’s fine.”
I shake my head, remembering vividly the dangerously mercurial behavior common to newborn vampires. I lower my voice so Y/n can’t hear. “She could snap like that. I’m not going to risk any of you getting hurt.”
Rosalie scoffs, but her emotions can’t lie, and I feel her gratitude. Knowing I know, she gives me a little shove.
“Go on then, do your job.”
On the way out I catch Emmett, who gives me a pat on the back. “We’ll be down in a bit. Gonna chill for a few minutes.”
I nod, knowing Rose isn’t quite ready to interact with Y/n. Of course, we let her be. It’s not smart to push Rosalie Hale.
Esme meets Y/n outside the bathroom door and kindly strokes her hair. “I thought we might watch a movie tonight. Is there something you would like to see?”
Instantly, I feel warmth from Y/n, her first positive emotion since her arrival. It’s a wonderful respite from all the chaos, and I let it wash over me. Involuntarily, I take a few steps forward, wanting to be closer to the pleasant feeling.
Mischief crosses Y/n’s face, and she looks at me with one eyebrow raised. “Shadow, is there anything you would like to watch?”
I can hear Emmett snickering. Esme tries, and fails, to hide a smile. Even I have to bite the inside of my mouth to keep from grinning, but it doesn’t quite work. The teasing is a nice break from the tension, fear, and shame.
“Lord of the Rings,” I throw out randomly.
Y/n turns back to Esme, her smile widening. “Midnight in Paris it is.”
Esme chuckles, puts her arm around Y/n’s shoulders, and leads her downstairs to the living room. I follow, unable to keep the smile off my face.
A/n Thank you for reading! Next chapter, we’ll get to see what Y/n thinks of her transformation and of her ‘shadow’. I’m excited! Please let me know what you thought of this chapter and if you would like to be added to the tag list!
xx,

THE small diner rattled with endless chatter, the edges of milkshake glasses clanged together and the scraping of forks against plates played like sour music in the background of Mack's mind. She twirled her straw around her cup mindlessly, dragging the plastic through the creamy-foam sitting at the bottom of the tall glass in little circles.
"Kenz? You alright?" Kai's voice drew Mack out out of her daze, her head snapping up and eyes trained on Kai's steel-blue irises as his hand cupped over hers on the small plastic table. She just stared at him for a moment, his gaze softening. She gave him a small, unconvincing smile, which he returned.
"Yeah." She simply said and Kai raised a brow, pulling away from her and sitting back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest. Her eyes narrowed and he breathed out a laugh at her glare. "No. I don't know." Mack sighed and he nodded.
"That doesn't surprise me. Look, Kenz, you need to figure out if this is a good thing for you. Forget Ben -he was a dick; forget your dad - he will love you either way; and forget me - I couldn't give a shit what you are, you're still my best friend and you always will be." Kai reassured and Mack was sure she felt her heart melt slightly at his words. She pondered over his words for a moment, humming thoughtfully.
"I think it's good for me." She finally answered and Kai smiled. "But, I don't know if I'll ever get over killing Ben." She added, a grim expression overtaking her. Kai's smile faltered and he leant forward again, taking Mack's hands in his and rubbing his thumbs over the backs soothingly.
"Don't worry about it, I dealt with him. Hell - I could make the word forget him if you wanted me too." Kai shrugged and Mack shook her head.
"No, I need to deal with the consequences of what I did." She all but whispered and Kai let out a frustrated sigh, falling back again before standing up.
"C'mon, let's get out of here." Kai suggested, offering his hand which Mack took. He pulled the girl to her feet, leading her out of the small diner and began walking her down a seemingly deserted road.
"Why do I feel like you're taking me somewhere to murder me?" Mack suggested dryly and Kai chuckled, almost darkly.
"And you really think I'd do that without a good bye fuck first? Is that what you truly think of me?" He mocked shock and Mack smacked his arm.
"Oh I'm sorry, gentlemanly as ever, I see." She giggled and their laughter chorused against the thick trees lining the road. Kai abruptly halted to a stop, not even faltering as Mack bumped into him after realising they'd stopped. "Why are we...here?" Mack asked nervously, looking around the deserted road where no one was sure to be for miles.
"Well, Kenz, as you asked so nicely..." Kai began, spinning to face his friend with a wide, mischievous grin, "you don't seem to be taking the gift of life seriously enough," she slapped him in the chest at that, "so, I thought I'd show you how thrilling it is to be alive." Kai smirked with a sparkle in his eyes that Mack had never seen before.
"You're not gonna fuck me against a tree, are you?" Mack questioned, brow raised. Kai chuckled and shook his head.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves." He sighed. "No, not yet. No, to start off with, I'm going to show you how much you appreciate life - even though you clearly don't know it." Kai grinned, tapping Mack on the nose with his finger to punctuate his sentence. He clasped her hand in him, dragging the confused, giggling girl into the middle of the wet yet empty road.
"Kai! You're going to get us killed some day!" Mack exclaimed, trying to tug her hand out his grip but laughing none the less.
"Not today, babe. Now, lie down." He demanded, a little sternly but his gaze still held that mischievous, playful glint.
"What?! That's crazy, a car could come any minute!" She almost shrieked.
"Don't be ridiculous, do you really think I'd put the best fuck of my life in that much danger? No way. So lie down and I promise, no cars with drive over you." Kai waved off, eyes pleading. "Please?" He added and Mack caved, rolling her eyes and muttering a fine before lowering herself to the wet tarmac and laying flat on her back - hair fanning out around her head and hands resting over her stomach.
"You gonna join me?" Mack called, lifting her head slightly to raise a brow at Kai. He grinned, plopping down beside her - shoulder to shoulder, mimicking her pose. He cleared his throat before talking.
"Isn't this exciting, the possibility of death any moment?" Kai said and Mack's eyes widened.
"You said-"
"Relax! I'm kidding. Now look at the stars." Kai decided and Mack stared intensely at the white spotted ebony sky, eyes darting around the shapes and patterns. "You see that one? The constellation over there?" Kai asked and Mack nodded, following his gaze, "that's the Gemini symbol. The symbol of my coven."
"Why Gemini? That seems a little..." Mack trailed off.
"Lame?" Kai supplied and Mack giggled.
"Yeah."
"I'm getting to it. So, in this coven of mine, we have this tradition. It involves twins and...merging." Kai sighed and Mack frowned, turning to look at Kai whose eyes were still trained upwards, almost as if he'd forgotten she was there and that he was simply talking to himself. "When the last born set of twins of the current Gemini leader turn 22, they merge. It's a magical ceremony where the strongest twin lives and the youngest dies."
"They kill their own members?" Mack gasped. Kai nodded.
"Yes, physically. They like to claim that the other lives on within their twin, that their personalities merge and it's like they're two in one. But I know the truth - it's murder. Cold blooded murder." Kai spat.
"You and Jo...?" Mack gasped and horror.
"No. Our younger siblings, Lucus and Olivia." Kai clarified and Mack let out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding. "And I'm happy about it. I try to distance myself from the twins - I know I'll lose one of the someday and I couldn't get through it if I was attached to both." Kai admitted. "But we're luck, me and Jo. We don't have to go through that." Kai continued, pausing for a moment. "She's my best friend, you know." Kai said after a moment.
Mack turned to face Kai again, humming in acknowledgement.
"I don't know what I'd do without her, before you, she was the only true friend I'd ever had."
"How come?" Amelie frowned.
"I'm sort of the...black sheep of the family. Because I don't have my own magic, but can rather steal it from others, I'm seen as dangerous, unpredictable. I've been singled out my whole life - cut off, locked up, beaten..." Kai trailed off.
"All the good people in life are fucked up one way or another." Mack smiled and Kai reciprocated it.
"I guess both our lives have gone to shit, huh?" Kai chuckled and Mack laughed.
"I guess so."
...
Kai stumbles through the front door, chucking his keys onto the small table before toeing off his shoes and kicking them against the wall.
"You're out late." Joshua's menacing voice chimes from the kitchen, the fact that Kai couldn't see the source making the whole ordeal a little more eery. Kai wandered into the kitchen, stopping dead in his track as he took in the sight of Joshua malevolently gripping his belt in his right hand, letting the rest lay flat over his left. Kai attempted to swallow the lump in his throat to no success.
"I- um, I was with Mack." Kai stuttered out, throat suddenly dryer than if he'd been roaming a desert.
"Mack? The werewolf girl?" Kai nodded solemnly. "I don't want you seeing her again."
"Why? It's not like you care for my well-being." Kai spat and Joshua sighed heavily.
"And you were doing so well. She brings out the bad in you, Malachi. Because of her, you've been stealing Jo's magic again-"
"How do you know that?" Kai's desperate eyes made Joshua's lips turn up into a sickening grin.
"Your sister is easily persuaded with minimal threat." Joshua smirked and Kai's eyes seemed to ignite.
"If you so much as lay a hand on her-"
"Oh be quiet, boy! I did no such thing! Unlike you, my daughter deserve the utmost respect and care throughout her life." Joshua sneered and Kai swallowed his words. "As I was saying, you've been stealing magic, and using it. You've been getting into fights, having sex and probably off taking drugs too! If it were up to me you'd be lock in your room, meals slid under the door and never seen again."
"But it is up to you." Kai commented and Joshua smiled knowingly.
"People start asking questions, Malachi. Then I have to lie, lie, lie." Joshua ranted, as if he was bored with the notion. "You will not be seeing her again."
"But-"
"And that's final." Joshua finished, tapping the belt against his hand maliciously. "Now, you know the drill, shirt off and down of your knees." Joshua smirked, standing from his place with a wicked look in his emotionless eyes.

THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF ZELDA: CHAPTER 16-THE NEW GIRL
Tumblr media
CORDELIA SPELLMAN, NOW 12, FEELS UNEASY AROUND THE NEW GIRL IN HER CLASS…
Cordelia Spellman, smiled at herself in her full-length mirror, as she finished buttoning her blouse and admired her new skirt. Then she sat down at her vanity and picked up her golden chain with a single crescent moon attached. Ever since her parents had given her the necklace as a Yule gift 6 years ago, Cordelia never left the house without her necklace. Whenever she felt anxious or upset, Cordelia would hold the half-moon and pray. Guess being the daughter of a high priestess made you believe a little more. It was a long-standing family joke that if Sabrina’s black headband was her trademark then the necklace was Cordelia’s. After fastening the chain to her neck, Cordelia gathered her school books together and putting them in her backpack when she heard a bird. Turning around, she saw a dove in a tree right outside her bedroom window. A dove that Cordelia knew well.
“Hello, October.” Cordelia greeted the dove before grabbing her backpack and exiting her room. Out in the hallway, Cordelia encountered another animal. A huge brown greyhound lay across the floor, directly in Cordelia’s way. However, this was no mere dog. This was the familiar of Cordelia’s brother, Jake.
“Come on, Apollo, move! You’re in the way!” The dog did move when Cordelia scratched him behind his ear. The dog and the 12-year-old walked through the living room together. As they neared the kitchen, Apollo ran ahead, searching for food and his master. Cordelia stayed behind just long enough to put her book bag down on a hallway bench. Inside the kitchen, Cordelia found the usual suspects: her parents
“Good morning, Mom and Dad.”
Her brother was now feeding Apollo a strip of bacon, and Vinegar Tom, her mother’s dog wasn’t far behind.
“Morning, Jake.”
And her cousin, who unlike her parents and her brother, didn’t live there but worked there and often showed up early enough for breakfast.
“Hey, Ambrose.”
Plus 1 new face around the table.
“Hey, it’s the good doctor.” Cordelia hugged her big sister before sitting down next to her.
“Good morning, Cordy!” LJ smiled. “You don’t seem that surprised to see me here.”
“I’m not,” shrugged Cordelia as she dug into her oatmeal. “Perhaps that’s because I just saw a certain dove perched outside my window not 5 minutes ago.”
“Damn that October! I swear that familiar of mine spoils all my surprises! Anyway, the official reason I’m here is to drop off some medical forums for the boys but I also wanted to check up on you. Are you sure you’re ready for what you need to do today?”
Cordelia couldn’t help but smile. Not only was today the 1st day of school, but it was also Cordelia’s 1st day of 7th grade at Greendale Middle School, the very class that her father taught since she was 4.
Annoyed, Faustus came forward with his cup of coffee. “Hey, you have been teasing your sister all summer about being in my class. I wish you would stop it. I’m a good teacher and you, Cordy, don’t think I’m going to be easy on you because I’m your father.”
Cordelia shook her head. “I wouldn’t dream of it, Dad. I going to pass 7th grade with hard work and good grades, the same way I’ll become a top student when I attend the academy.”
Zelda smiled at her daughter. “Now, that’s the right attitude.”
“Butt kisser.” Jake teased his sister good-naturedly.
10 minutes later, everyone left the kitchen. Ambrose and Jake went to work in other parts of the house, while everyone else was heading out the door. Zelda, to morning assembly at the academy, LJ was heading to the hospital to start her rounds and Faustus started the engine to his white VW bug as Cordelia climbed in beside him.
“So, did you and Mom have the talk today?” she asked her father.
“What talk?” Faustus asked his daughter.
Cordelia shrugged. “The talk, the talk you and Mom have at the start of every school year.  The one where Mom asks you to come to teach at the academy and every year, you turn down Mom’s offer.”
“You know about that?”
Cordelia rolled her eyes. “Everyone in the family knows. What I don’t get is why you keep turning her down. When I was little, you told me that Ambrose is the most powerful warlock in the family but I’ve known for a long time that it’s you. Plus, I heard Uncle C and Aunt Hilda talking about how you used to work there and- “
“Cordy, I don’t feel comfortable talking about this.” Faustus cut in.  “Yes, I used to work at the academy, but that was a long time ago, before the curse.”
“Of course!” His daughter spat. “Whenever I try to bring up anything about your past, all you ever say is it happened before the curse. Never mind that you always say you’ll tell me about this curse someday, but you never have. Dad, I’m 12 now, whatever this curse is, I can handle it.”
Faustus sighed as he pulled into the school parking lot. He couldn’t blame Cordelia for her anger toward him. She was right, of course, he brought up the ‘before the curse’ line a lot but what the child didn’t know was that he tried twice as much to tell his daughter what the curse actually was. Yet, he just couldn’t do it. Even when Zelda was right there beside him to support and help him to explain it all. But 1 look in Cordy’s innocent, trusting eyes, and Faustus chickened out every time. You’re weak, boy, you’ve always been weak. His father’s words were never far in Faustus’s mind. No words could be enough to express how thankful and grateful he was to the Spellmans for their unending understanding and support of him for the last 13 years. However, no matter how loved, safe, and secure his family would make him feel, something always happened, a memory, a nightmare, (last week’s was a real doozy) to trigger his never-ending guilt yet again. That’s why he declined Zelda’s yearly offer to return to teaching at the academy.  It was no longer a school to him, just a scene of his crimes. He felt the same way about the church, though he found it easier to avoid the school. When he did go to mass, he sat in the very last pew, even if as the spouse of the high priestess, it was his right to sit upfront with the rest of his family. He liked to get in and out, to see as less of the coven as possible. Even if the coven and the family’s forgiveness had lasted for 13 years, Faustus still lived his life as if that forgiveness could be revoked at any moment. This is why he couldn’t tell the youngest Spellman that it was only because of her mother that he wasn’t trapped forever inside a wicked, murdering husk. Sometimes it felt like Cordelia was the only 1 left in the world who didn’t know of his crimes and, selfish or not, he liked it that way.
“No, your mother and I didn’t have ‘that talk’ today, we had it yesterday.” There, it was all Faustus was willing to say on the subject. Faustus parked the car and pointed. “There are your friends.”
Thankfully, the sight of her best friends, blond triplets Emily, Erin, and Erica Warner, was enough to distract Cordelia from their current conversation.
“Thanks, Dad,” Cordelia pecked her father’s cheek, left the car, and made a beeline for her friends. “Hi, guys!”
“Hey, Cordy,” Said Emily.
“Hi, Cordelia” Replied Erica.
Erin just waved.
Cordelia frowned. “What’s wrong with you 3? You all look like you didn’t sleep a wink all night long.”
“We didn’t,” mumbled Erin.
“How could we when Mom and Dad had another all-night screaming match.” Emily agreed with her sister.
“Again?!” Cordelia frowned, the triplets confided in her that their parents were having marriage problems for quite some time.
“Hey there, girls!” came a voice from behind.
“Sara!”  All 3 Warner girls cried and turned to embrace the girl coming towards them.
Cordelia wasn’t sure what disturbed her more.  The fact that she had never seen this new girl a day in her life or that she got a warmer welcome from her besties than she did. However, Cordelia easily dismissed the thought when Erin turned back to her.
“Cord, this is Sara Reed. She just moved 3 doors down from us about 2 weeks ago. Sara, this is Cordelia Spellman, she’s been our best friend since, like, ever.”
“So, I’m finally meeting the famous Cordelia Spellman.”
“Well, I don’t know about famous,” Cordelia smiled.
The bell rang so the girls headed inside the school.
“Are you kidding?” Sara told Cordelia, “the triplets talk about you all the time. To hear them tell it, your family owns the town.”
“Hardy,” Cordelia giggled. “Truthfully, they only own 2 businesses, but they are all over town. Let’s see, my uncle owns Dr. Cerberus’s books and spirits and he runs it with my aunt Hilda.  She herself co-owns the Spellman Sisters mortuary with my mother but Mom teaches high school with my oldest sister, Prudence. So the mortuary’s day to day business is run by Ambrose, my cousin, and my brother Jake. Not too far from Uncle C’s shop, is the new office of my other cousin, Sabrina, who’s a therapist. LJ, my other sister, is a doctor.”
“What about your father?” Sara asked.
“Oh, Dad’s right here,” Cordelia answered. “Dad has been teaching 7th grade at this school since I was 4.”
“Which means that Mr. Spellman is our teacher this year.” Erin pointed out.
This made Sara confused. “Wait, I thought you guys were going into 8th grade?”
Emily shook her head. “Nope,7th.”
“I’m going into 8th.” Sara declared.
“I thought she was 12, like us,” Cordelia whispered to Erica.
“She is, but Sara is so cool, I’m not surprised she skipped a grade.”
“Oh yeah,” Cordelia smiled. “What makes her so cool?”
“She’s a Wiccan.”
Her friends didn’t notice when Cordelia froze and her smile disappeared.
Nina Robinson was the school’s new 8th-grade teacher and she was not at all happy to be there. Some teachers’ passion was children, but Nina’s true passion was men. That was got her in her current troubles. If her boyfriend-correction, ex-boyfriend, had simply told his wife about them, he probably could have avoided a political scandal.  Yet here Nina was, in a backward hic town instead of her beloved New York.
How am I going to find Mr. tall, dark and handsome here in the middle of Nowhere, USA? Nina thought to herself just before Mr. tall, dark, and handsome walked by.
Luckily, Nina was standing right next to Theo Putnam, the vice-principal of the school.  “Um, Mr. Putnam? Who is that?” Nina asked, pointing.
“Oh, that’s Faustus Spellman, he’s been teaching 7th grade here for 8 years. His niece, Sabrina, is a childhood friend of mine.”
Nina could care less about childhood friends as she checked out this Faustus guy and she liked what she saw. Most women would back off when they saw Faustus’s wedding ring, but not Nina. She liked a challenge.
“So, how are you today, Mr. Wilson?” LJ smiled at her favorite patient.
“Much better now that you’re here.”  Mr. Wilson took LJ’s hand and kissed it.
“Well, I’m certainly glad that those 3 surgeries didn’t rob you of your charm.”
LJ turned as the door opened and there was a man LJ didn’t know. “Excuse me, Mr. Wilson? I was sent here to check your I.V. and do some bloodwood.”
“Well, do it, then. Can’t you see I’m trying to flirt here?”
LJ chuckled as she moved to allow the stranger room to work. LJ also check the chart at the end of Mr. Wilson’s bed. “Everything looks good here. I’ll check back on you this afternoon.”
LJ and the man left the hospital room together. “I’m sorry, but have we met?” LJ asked the man out in the hallway. “It’s just that I’ve worked here for the last 5 years and I can’t place you.”
The man smiled. “Nor should you. I’m part of a group of interns that just transferred here from Moon Valley.”
“Oh, okay. Well, welcome to Greendale Memorial Hospital. How are you liking it so far?”
“I like it very much. I mean, the people are great. There’s only 1 thing I’m nervous about.  My pals keep telling me how tough our supervisor is. I haven’t met him yet; some guys say that our new supervisor is some hard ass resident named Dr. Spellman. Oh, where are my manners?” I’m Peter, Peter Watson.”
“LJ. LJ Spellman.”
Peter stopped walking. “You’re kidding, right.”
LJ kept smiling as she shook her head. “Afraid not.”
“Look, I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
“After I get my foot out of my big mouth, how about I apologize properly by buying you a drink after work?”
LJ’s smile got bigger. “I would like that.”
Over the years, some found it odd, that everyone at Greendale middle school, both staff and students alike, all had their lunch break at noon sharp. Yet today, it was a blessing. For at 10 after 12, a fire broke out in the southeast end of the school. Far away from the cafeteria and the teacher’s lounge. By 12:30, all the fire alarms were screaming at full force and the firetrucks were arriving just as the yard was filling with people. By 1 pm, the principal and vice-principal were busy calling parents to tell them not only about the fire but also the happy news that no one was hurt. To give the school a chance to air out all that extra smoke, afternoon classes were held outside, made possible by the nice weather. Although the flames were brief, it did ruin 2 rooms. The library and the 8th-grade classroom were burnt and would be unusable for months. By 3, it was safe to come back inside. By 3:30, the school was over and Cordelia was putting some books in her locker before heading into the girls’ bathroom. Cordelia pushed open the door and froze. There, among a dozen lit candles, were her 3 best friends and the new girl, Sara, all hovering over an Ouija board.

hey there demons it’s me, ya boi | connor & nell
TIMING: present. LOCATION: nell’s greenhouse. PARTIES: @connorspiracy and @nelllraiser. SUMMARY: connor meets with nell for some demon talk, but gets a little more than was expected.
Ever since the coven had excommunicated Nell and her sisters, she saw no particular reason to be as secretive about her dealings with demons as she once had been. Of course, she wasn’t going to shout it from the mountaintops, but if someone was already in on the supernatural and wasn’t a threat, the witch saw no need to hide her knowledge. Who knew, maybe if more people knew about her familiarity with demons, less of them would mess with her and her family. As for Connor, she didn’t see any harm in discussing demons with an exorcist. Besides, it’d be interesting to see if he had any things to share of his own. She’d met the young man at the perimeter of the property, knowing that the reanimated corpse that Bea brought to life wouldn’t be happy if an unknown person entered the premises without the escort of a Vural. “Hey!” she waved an arm in greeting, waiting to lead Connor towards her greenhouse. “Are you ready to see the lair of demons?” Her tone was joking, obviously having nothing of the sort. Well...she supposed Greg’s doghouse might be considered a lair, but there was only one demon in there. Not demons, plural.
Connor followed the directions to Nell’s home, examining it from the outside. It was nice. Spacious, modern but with a woodsy kind of feel, well-maintained. He parked his car at the front, following her inside. “Lair of demons. Great band name,” he teased with a crooked smirk, following her to the greenhouse. “You know I feel like, as an exorcist, I’m supposed to be super against this, but I have loads to learn about demonology still…” Connor was no stranger to doing things he wasn’t exactly supposed to. The whole concept of a YouTube exorcist was enough to put the community on-edge. Might as well go and talk to the girl who kept demons in her back garden. “So is it like a butterfly room, but a greenhouse full of demons?” he asked, only half-joking.
“I’ve got dibs on it,” Nell instantly teased back with her own smirk-like grin. “I’m glad you found the place, though.” Sometimes it was hard for people to navigate the Outskirts, especially if they weren’t White Crest natives. “I mean, you can make your own rules, can’t you?” There was an air of levity to the words, as if she may or may not be serious on the matter. But in the end, who was to say what the rules were for magic? Ghost or otherwise? Her newly estranged coven had tried their hand at that, and failed spectacularly in her eyes. “And it’s always good to have the knowledge, isn’t it? But you said you’ve met a couple demons or so?” she asked as she swung open the door of the greenhouse, it opening to her specific touch on the door handle. As they entered, the plants were as ordinary as any other greenhouse, flowering and flourishing in abundance. It was only as you went deeper that more supernatural things began to pop up. “Oh yeah, this is where I keep all the flying ones,” she joked easily, wondering how much he might believe such a claim.
“You can keep it,” he snickered. Connor had his brand name anyway. The dumb name he’d come up with for his youtube account when he was a teenager. It was a little silly, but he liked it. He could feel the magic in the air around them. There was something intangible about the place, something in addition to the actual, physical demons. He turned his head as a lanky old man with grey skin and dead eyes walked past, not even looking at him. He stared curiously as the man walked away, doing slow laps around the house. “Flying monkeys, like the Wizard of Oz?” Now that would be something. “I mean, I specialise in ghosts. I’ve met a demon or two though.” Like, the total beginner versions, but there was no need to advertise that fact. “What are you, some kind of demonologist?”
“Good, because I would have kicked your butt for it,” Nell continued to joke, no actual threat in her tone and voice. As Bea’s reanimated corpse, Corpsey, walked by— Nell tried to pay him no mind. Maybe if she didn’t say anything about him, Connor wouldn’t either. After all, she hadn’t expressly told him that she was a witch. Of course, all the demon talk wasn’t exactly something that spoke of a regular human, and her familiar in the form of an Ovinikk named Taki letting himself into the greenhouse wasn’t exactly...normal cat behaviour. But she was happy to ignore that all for the moment. Still, she couldn’t resist poking some fun within the confines of his Wizard of Oz analogy. “Exactly like the Wizard of Oz. I’m actually the Wicked Witch of the West. My green skin’s just hidden under some body paint at the moment. Don’t look at me too closely,” she teased. “But okay, what kinds of demons?” As for whether or not she was a demonologist… Nell shrugged as a part of her answer. “I just know a lot about demons is all.”
Kicking Connor’s butt wouldn’t have been hard. He preferred to talk his way out of situations, but he opted not to say anything about it, his eyes instead following the wrinkly-skinned old man as he walked the perimeter of the property. “Oh, um…” He took a moment to answer her question, having to tear his eyes away from the corpse-man and the weird cat. “A few basic ones. Bannik, Badalisc, Alp, and then just the basic non-specific kind, but not that powerful.” Since she’d asked a more leading question, he wasn’t going to outright lie about his prowess. In the days of pulling receipts, he knew it would just bite him in the arse later. “You have a dog?” he asked, eyes drawn to the kennel. “Can I pet him?”
Nell tried to keep her expression neutral as she did her best to mentally shoo Corpsey away. Get out of here, old man! Go be a knock off zombie somewhere else! Of course, it was no use. He couldn’t hear her, and even if he could, he wouldn’t care. After all, since Bea was the one who raised him, she was the one he took orders from. She had to tell Connor something, though. The walking corpse could possibly pass a human, but there was certainly something...off about him to the naked eye. “Oh, don’t worry about him- that’s just Uncle…” Uncle who? “-Cory.” Cory and Corpsey. Good enough. “He’s harmless, but nosy. Probably just wondering why I invited a guy into the greenhouse. He’s a little overprotective,” she added with a light chuckle, and the slightest air of flirtation. Maybe that’d be enough to distract Connor. “But nice! Thankfully those guys don’t usually cause actual death. Were you here when giant Cthulhu Squidward wanted to make the town his own personal Hellscape, though?” She followed his gaze towards Greg’s wooden and spacious doghouse that was just a stone’s throw outside her greenhouse. “Uhhhhh,” she hesitated, deciding how much she should tell Connor. “Well that is actually home to one of the demons,” she finished with a chuckle, figuring telling him about Greg couldn’t hurt. “He prefers eating hands over being pet by them in the beginning.”
“Right,” Connor answered skeptically. “Uncle Cory.” Sure. Why not? Didn’t they all have uncles with grey, decaying skin who walked around in a daze? He gave a lighthearted snicker at her excuse, flashing her a grin. “What, so you don’t normally invite blokes over to the greenhouse? Should I be flattered?” As an exorcist, he was distrusting of demons, but not fully experienced enough to have seen the extent of the horror they could bring. Probably why he was not only inquisitive and curious about Nell’s life, but actually having fun. “No, I missed Squid-thing, and lobster-thing, and fish-rain thing. From what I know about this place though, it’s not long before something else crazy happens.” His gaze was still longingly on the kennel. “A demon dog?!” He was heartbroken. “So… no petting? That’s just cruel.”
“Exactly,” Nell replied brightly, trying to continue down the road of innocence as Connor repeated the name. It didn’t seem like he really bought it, but at least her attempts to draw his attention away from the corpse with a bit of a flirt seemed to be doing something. “I don’t know,” she teased back with her head coquettishly tilted to the side, a small smirk on her lips. “Do you want to be flattered?” So he hadn’t been here for the squid demon. That was probably for the best. After all, it hadn’t exactly been a fun time. “Damn, you really missed out. There was calamari for days by the end of it.” It was true what he said about White Crest, though. There was always something going on in the not-so-sleepy town. It was endearing how excited he seemed by the prospect of a demon dog, though. “Well...petting Greg probably isn’t the best idea just yet. But I have a different demon dog you could pet.” She rolled up one of her sleeves, revealing both the mottled, patchwork scars that covered the entirety of her arms as well as one of her sigil tattoos.
“I’m always flattered when I get compliments from a pretty girl,” Connor answered, his dumb, innocent charm somehow managing to make the line not entirely cringe-worthy. “Especially when she shows me her demons.” He scrunched up his face at the thought of the sky fish falling down around them. “Don’t reckon I’d want to eat that kind of calamari, or giant horse-sized lobster that tried to kill me, although, that would be a pretty sweet victory feast,” he teased. His eyes widened like a kid at Disneyland as the mentioned another demon dog. “Really? Where?” She started to pull up her sleeves. Oh no. It better not have been burned into her flesh or a Quirrel-Voldemort situation. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw she was drawing attention to her tattoo. “What does that do? It looks mystical.”
The corners of Nell’s lips turned upwards in the beginnings of a smirk, amused that he’d somehow managed to pull off the line. “Well it looks like you’re on track for possibly getting more with an attitude like that. Careful though- I might think you’re just using me for my demons,” she finished playfully. A small chuckle was pulled from her before she moved on to talk of meals that may or may not have once tried to kill her and the inhabitants of the town. “That’s the point! It’s the best victory feast! What’s that line about revenge being a dish best served cold? This is revenge literally served as a dish.” Should she tell him about the magic now? Or just let him figure it out himself when three fully grown hellhounds sprang from her arm? The latter definitely had a larger possibility of having some laugh factor, so she opted for that. “It’s a sigil,” she replied with a twinkle in the corner of her eye. Then she was biting her thumb until it bled, and swiping it over the tattoo along with a few muttered words of Latin. Almost instantly, the three demon dogs formed from the magic, excited to have been Summoned.
Connor gave a little laugh. Nell was proving to be pretty good company. “Using you? Not at all. In fact I’d probably get a good belting from most other exorcists for not expelling them back to hell or whatever.” He waved his hands in a playful spooky motion as he spoke. “Call me old-fashioned, but I just don’t trust food that falls out of the sky.” His eyes widened as she bit down on her thumb, but he knew better than most that some rituals required blood. He usually just used a small knife rather than his teeth, though. He kept his eyes on her, watching carefully, and when the hounds appeared, he yelped, almost tripping over a watering can and some potted plants in his rush to get out of the way. This was it. This was how he died; mauled to death by hell-dogs in a greenhouse.
The coy air that Nell had been employing continued to hang around her as she gave the young man in front of her a sly smile. “Wow- you’re really putting yourself out there for me, aren’t you?” The words had an underlying tone of sarcasm as a means of teasing, knowing full well it wasn’t for her benefit. Then she shifted back into a more informative mode. “Yeah, some people call it hell. It’s sort of like...its own separate dimension for them. Like another world you can just yoink them from or yeet them back to. I can’t believe you’re so unwilling to live on life’s edge when it comes to sky food, though.” Had she eaten anything that came from the sky? Definitely not. But it was fun to joke about. The first thing the witch registered was some of her plants almost getting trampled, and a frown was quick to her lips. “Watch out!” she chastised disapprovingly. But then she noticed just how alarmed Connor was, and her hands were quick to come up in a calming motion. “Hey- hey! It’s alright! They’re not gonna hurt you!” As if to prove a point, the friendliest of the hounds, Scooby, padded forwards- considering Connor with a slightly cocked head, ears perked in his direction. “He’ll let you pet him, if you want.”
Connor didn’t scare easily. It was kind of a necessity to have a thick skin when you dealt with demons and spirits almost every day, but bloody hell, Nell had managed to scare the life out of him. “You’re lucky I’m wearing dark trousers,” he teased, finally letting himself laugh as the air seemed to return to his lungs. Now that he knew they weren’t about to play with him like a chew toy, they were actually kind of… cute. “Aw.” He approached, cautiously, hand outstretched. “Hello…” He’d definitely rather be petting a golden retriever, but this was good too. “Where did you get them? How does it work?” He cocked his head, looking over at her tattoo. “You owe me a really good story for almost making me shit my pants. Maybe even a drink. Or some dinner.” He smiled at her coyly.
Nell snickered a little at the mention of his trousers before saying, “Aww- was the big, bad exorcist a little frightened? Maybe my uncle was wrong to be worried about you in the greenhouse.” The words were meant in good fun, just as the rest of her teases had been. As Connor offered a hand, Scooby sniffed at it and eagerly nosed pressed to the palm of his hand as he searched the young man. “He’s looking for treats,” Nell clarified in a gentler voice, one that was generally reserved for the creatures she worked with. “There’s a jar next to you with some bits of meat in it if you wanna give them to him.” She wouldn’t say exactly what kind of meat it was. “I first Summoned Scooby- the one sniffing you- when I was sixteen. You know- with magic. He wasn’t nearly as wanting to be friendly back then but- he got used to me after I worked with him a lot. Then he brought his brothers along one day,” she said gesturing to the other two hounds. “This one’s Shaggy,” she said, pointing to the largest of the lot who was beginning to approach Connor as well, “and this is Scrappy.” The last of the hounds was positioned quite seriously next to Nell, considering the exorcist with an eye that seemed to be deciding whether he’d be a nice snack or not. In a moment her own flirting grin was back on her lips. “Well seeing as it wasn’t that great of a story…” she started, as if she were mulling the thought over. “I could maybe find the time for a drink.”
“I’ll have you know I’m neither big nor bad,” Connor chuckled, self-deprecating. Five-foot-eight accompanied by a slight build and a baby face didn’t exactly strike fear into most people’s hearts. The posh accent and floppy hair, neither. He tried not to piss himself while the hound sniffed at him, and followed Nell’s instructions, tossing him some treats, which got the others pretty interested in Connor too. “I knew there were witches and warlocks and stuff, but I’ve never seen one with… this.” He gestured to the creatures around them, and Uncle Corpsy as he made another pass around the greenhouse. He wasn’t ashamed to admit that this kind of power was both intriguing and attractive. “Well then, love, name the time and place.”
A chuckle fell from Nell as Connor joked at his own expense, and she could appreciate his ability to not take himself too seriously. “My mistake, I guess you just look taller in your videos,” she decided to poke a bit more fun at him. She hadn’t seen tons of them, but after he’d shown her his YouTube channel she’d been curious enough to watch some of the videos. They were interesting to say the least, especially since she didn’t know all that much about spirits or ghosts. Shaggy and Scooby were all too ready to accept treats from Connor, but Nell made sure that Scrappy stayed alongside her, scooping up some separate treats for the smallest of the hellhounds. He was generally the most aggressive, and she wasn’t keen on taking any chances at the moment. Her lips twitched into another smile as he mentioned witches, and nodded in confirmation of that word. “To be fair...Uncle Corbin isn’t mine.” The words were colored with amusement. Apparently the ‘uncle’ ruse hadn’t stuck. But she wouldn’t openly out her sisters that also lived here as witches. Most people simply assumed that the three of them were after finding out that one was a witch, but that was Bea’s and Luce’s business. But a time and place? The words made it sound like more of an actual date to Nell, and she wasn’t sure she wanted one of those. But she was probably overthinking it, and went with the first words out of her mouth. “Dell’s is always good. Or- actually, have you been to The Seven Selkies, yet? It’s got a fun supernatural crowd.”
“Yeah, yeah. Hard to tell how tall someone is when they’re in frame by themselves,” Connor snickered, pulling out his vape (probably bad form to smoke actual cigarettes in someone’s greenhouse). He gave her the kind of smile that said he didn’t exactly believe her when she talked about Uncle Corbin, but he wasn’t going to directly challenge her on it. “The Seven Selkies sounds great.”

TAPE FOUR
It’s twins’ birthday. Have they changed the wallpaper yet? Who knows, we’re in the living room. Everybody’s very excited. They turn five which means a very important year for the coven… but to them, this world is all important and unbelievably worth exploring. Kids this little don’t understand responsibility or duty yet, all they know is each other, food, mother’s voice, and funny moving pictures on the screen. There are many people in the room, again, all basking them in attention. So many pairs of expecting eyes turned to them, observing their every move like vultures, feeding on their confusion, and consuming the energy from their puffy pink and dark blue ribbons and dresses, questioning, discussing, pondering. Kai has his little arms around his sister, pressing quick fake kisses on her face just like mama and papa do. Josette is busy trying to pull the tablecloth from under all the dishes. It’s evening, and the kids finally sit still: everybody’s happy that hyperactive Malachai found solace in examining how strong Josette’s bones are. It’s like they know. It’s like they know about the merge, and they look at each other and consider which one of them will go down. But of course not, in reality they were probably thinking, why does it smell so funny and why is Aunt Aileen crying non-stop? Her facial features are twisted, that indicates she’s sad. Why is everybody else laughing then? However… you know what, I’m not sure they were even thinking that. I have very little knowledge of what the kids think about because I myself was never one.
Anyway, then we can see a big gap, and the picture changes. It’s present time – the best time of the day! Kai’s on his father’s, the coven leader’s, lap, Jo is sitting with her mum. All the chatter, laughter, glass sounds, and the big and small boxes float above the table. Parents unwrap the presents and announce: a toy! A dress! Josette gets about four or five dresses and Kai gets none. But he does get a pair of silk pants, a book of spells – his first – and even a dead bird. A DEAD BIRD! That’s one of the best presents you can get being a witch. You take the beak and use it in making potions… the feathers go on dream catchers, eyes – for blinding spells, and legs can be edible…
Okay, I’m pulling your leg, no witch really needs a dead bird, even a raven – it’s gross. Kaylo Perkins is just old and insane. He’s a slave of old religion and a big Satan fan. Dead bird goes into the bin right after the dinner, and Malachai screams properly about it, for like twenty minutes, because he enjoyed it.
They both get golden chains with the symbol of Gemini coven, and sets of toys. Josette gets her books on how to be a good girl (spoiler alert: she’ll never be). Malachai gets a mirror in silver frame from his mother – she talks to dead people through it. And a ring from his father that Joshua takes off his finger right then, and puts it on the chain. Everybody cheers. The favoritism in this family is so obvious you can write your messages in the sky.
“Say thank you!” Martha smiles to her children. Kai and Jo say ‘tha-ank you’ in unison and everybody goes ahh.
TAPE FIVE
We’re again in the Parker living room, like it’s a cheap sitcom with only limited amount of locations. You can hear somebody crying somewhere upstairs, but it’s more like a childish whine, the ‘he stole my teddy bear’ type. You know, if they only took Kai to a normal human doctor, that would all be so much easier, and they would tell them, well, there’s something wrong with this kid for sure. Joshua knows that already, but the mama Parker gave birth to this boy and she refuses to label him anything but genius, because he’s also so good-looking. Kai’s sitting on the couch and by the looks of it he’s around six or seven and he’s glued to the screen of a little television that’s in front of him.
“Kai, say what you’ve done”, a voice tells him behind the camera. We can also see Martha Parker walking slowly on the background, and she’s heavily pregnant.
Kai doesn’t react. His eyes don’t move and it’s like he doesn’t even breathe. When this boy isn’t watching TV, he’s talking about all the heroes and characters that he saw in the movies.
“Kai, what have you done?”
This is not his father’s voice; it belongs to a teenage girl we don’t know. Who is she?
“Ka-a-ai”, she utters. Her voice is annoying. The boy is sitting on the couch and watching TV, as if not seeing her. His face changes though: he hears something. In a second, we will hear it too.
Papa Parker rushes down the stairs so quick it looks like a flash. The camera shudders, the camera person takes a step back and bumps into something, gasping in pain. The picture is there, though. It’s like looking at a car crash.
Joshua’s face is twisted with anger, his eyes are black like blueberries. He runs to the couch where his son is sitting so fast you can’t really cope. Little Kai stands on the pillows, trying not to be caught off guards…
“You little monster!” Joshua groans as he grabs the boy by his shoulders and lifts him in the air.
Martha runs to them from the background. The living room is full of noise now. Kai is yelling.
“Dad, no, please!”
“Joshua, let him go!”
“He’s been draining her again!”
“Dad, I didn’t mean it! Please!” Kai is screaming in pain as his father is shaking him, then crashes him back down on the sofa pillows again. Martha keeps one hand on her big belly as she tries to pull her husband away. The tragedy is imminent at this point, and the girl holding the big camera whimpers really quietly, not sure what to do. The couch armset covers Malachai, but we can see his little arms fighting his father as he nearly chokes the kid. Way to go, coven leader! You gotta do what you gotta do. When a concerned parent brings their child to a doctor – not back then, of course, but now, when we do have technology to tell – the doc might say terrible things. Like, well, your child is definitely not okay. He wets his bed although he is old enough to understand, and he kicked Clementine in her stomach seeing that the dog is pregnant. It’s like… he’s projecting? Imagine the doctors in the late 70s saying shit like that. No, back then you didn’t go to a doctor for advice when your kid started acting out, breaking plates and keeping silent or screaming for fifty minutes straight. You better lay him down on the couch and give him a good beating so that he remembers he can’t assault his sister and watch TV all night long, and keep all the knives under his bed. Mama needs the knives to cook food. You take your darn kid by the neck and put him in the closet, make him the closet boy. Nevermind his wailing, and pleading, and crying, snot coming out of his nose and tears wetting the collar of shirt; he can’t do nothing, he’s not a witch! He doesn’t have any powers, little useless shit. There was so much hope on Malachai, they all relied on him to be the future leader, looking all like his dad, tall and pretty. With his wits and quick fingers, they imagined he’d beat Jo in the merge and become the good Gemini leader. But it seems he just doesn’t have it in him, and he’s so wicked because of that. All whiney, angry and sad. And this thing that he does! Look now, he’s about to do it with his own mama!
As Martha wrestles furious Joshua away, eyes like coals, nostrils flaring like a bull’s, the woman catches Kai by his hand, though he never stops wailing like a siren. One of his little hands covers his left eye – I wonder why? He’s crying as Martha pulls him from the couch and drags him towards the stairs.
“Go into your room and stay there”, she’s trying to outcry him, but it’s almost in vain.
“No, it’s dark! It’s dark, mum, I don’t want to be in my room, please!”
“Go into your room!” thunders Joshua. Kai’s shoulders shudders and he does it. Martha suddenly cries out, a look of shock on her face, and then kneels down on the floor as Kai keeps screaming. Joshua rushes to them and breaks their clutch, pushing the boy away. He nearly falls but manages to stay on his feet. His hand is still opened, he catches the air and breathes in deeply, his face slightly pinker, slightly more open, lighter. His eyes become a little more peaceful. As Joshua crutches over his very, very pregnant wife, he realizes: as soon as the father looks up, he’s fucked. So Kai runs away under the stairs and down into the basement. As if it’s not dark enough.
Phew! Disaster avoided. Josette is still crying upstairs. Camera is still rolling, the girl behind it breathing heavily. Well, that’s awkward.

Summary - A witch with a vendetta learns Klaus’s biggest secret, and Klaus must break his promise to Caroline Forbes to keep her safe.
A/N: I haven’t touched these guys in a while, so excuse any screw ups. Very AU story, post 5x11 - like, really post - but also I’m basically ignoring everything that happened after 5x11. Such as Caroline’s babies, Stefan, and so on and so forth.
Enjoy.
.
In Death I See Only You
.
The witch has his heart. She has his heart clenched in her bony fist, and she is unafraid. Her hand has gone through his chest, pushed past his ribcage, and is clutching his bloody, undead heart, and she is smiling. A wicked sort of smile that displays the evil beneath her young face. The evil, she claims, that was placed within her by him.
Klaus’s legs buckle. His face contorts in confusion—how has this girl managed to overpower him?—and he staggers back, bringing the raven-haired witch with him. Her fingers bare down and her nostrils billow out as he opens his mouth, gagging on pain. With a gentle push, the witch has him on his knees before her. Her short stature means she does not have to distort her own body to accommodate this shift. She stands above him now, his head level with her collarbone.
He is entirely at her mercy.
Niklaus Mikaelson, the fiercest, most depraved creature to walk the earth is bowing at the feet of a teenaged witch.
Anger writhes away inside of the Original vampire. This is impossible. This is not right. He is more than a millennium old. He has fought demons about which this girl has only read. He has laughed in Death’s face. He has survived so much. What power has this girl been granted? What gives her the strength, the right, to look down upon him?
“Do you know why I’m here?” the girl asks. He doesn’t answer right away. He doesn’t want to. But she won’t let him go silently. She places a gentle pressure on his cold, dead heart, her lips quivering with the power coursing through her, and says again, “Do you know why I’m here?”
Klaus stares at the dirt by the witch’s feet. “Yes,” he growls.
“Look at me when you speak!” she demands, squeezing hard. His heart feels as if it will burst. Yelping like the dog he is, Klaus’s head snaps up. He glares at the girl, his breathing staggered. Blood pours out of his mouth. Runs down his chin. His canines drop and dig into his bottom lip. Her mouth twitches in satisfaction. “You remember me, then,” she says.
“Yes,” Klaus says, spraying red.
“Good. Now the real fun can begin.”
.
He should not be have been there. There—out in the open. From where he stood, leaning against the large tree by the playground, moments before she found him like she promised she would when she was only five years old, he could see a mother pushing her little girl in a swing. And that was probably when she decided to corner him. When she decided he was vulnerable enough, weak enough, to be taken. Because no matter how badly he wished for that child to simply disappear from Hayley’s womb, the moment she was brought into the world Klaus awoke to a love unlike any he had experienced before. It was a primal sort of love. There was nothing he could do about it. The preservation of his bloodline had always been the most important thing, and then there was something new carrying his history, and he knew he would do anything in his power to stop her from leaving him.
But all good things must come to an end. While he was busy doing all he could to protect the girl, the rest of the world was thinking of ways to destroy her. An ancient coven, having heard of the impossibility of her existence, awoke from a millennia-old slumber in order to find her, fearful of the power brewing inside his infant child. Klaus heard of their emergence. An instant chill settled in his evaporated soul. A sickness spread through him, and he worked to hide her from their plan. Using all of his influence, every member of his family, his attempt lasted little more than a month before they found her.
Their anachronistic spells quickly tore through every barricade. The long, sharp sliver of white oak their leader carried with her helped aid their destruction of his family until he and the small child were the only ones left. And soon, all that remained was him. But even the most powerful coven in existence is no match for a vengeful father. This woman, her magic having cloaked them from the world and turned day into twilight, is all that remains of that group of witches after Klaus ripped all of their heads from their shoulders.
“I’ve been following you for a long time, Niklaus,” she says, and he can feel the poisonous wrath pulsing against her fingertips as she holds his heart. Night falls fast under the witch’s spell, and soon there is hardly any light in their bubble. “Watching you. Studying your movements, your strength. I’ve bided my time, and now look at us. Once, you made me afraid, but I was only a girl then. Are you ready to fear me?”
The truth is, Klaus already fears her. But he isn’t stupid or weak enough admit that. He has sensed her throughout the years. Each move he has made has been a calculated step away from her. But today, at the playground, he lost himself in memories of his dead child, and she took advantage of his sudden dip into humanity. He can hardly blame her.
And if he is being truly, truly honest, he has been waiting for this. Yearning for this. God, he is so tired.
With her free hand, the witch reaches inside her back pocket and pulls out a folded cloth. “You know what this is,” she tells him, because there is nothing else it could be. White oak. He can sense its desire to puncture his heart. “But I won’t use it yet. I want to have some fun with you first.”
Still with her fingers wrapped around his blackened heart, she returns the splinter to its holding place and touches his forehead. She digs her nails into his flesh and scrapes his temple slowly. Blood trickles down his cheek. Pressing her index finger against his open wound, sending a shockwave of pain down his spine, her eyes roll back and before he can struggle against her interference, she enters his mind.
Memories course through his mind, clashing against one another in a great battle for dominance. The memories are filled with people. Enemies. Friends. Family.
Lovers.
He sees his brothers, sisters. His parents. His mind reawakens to the childlike fear his father instilled within him. He remembers the love of his mother. Their betrayal.
He sees his child in the arms of the woman who birthed her. The memories flash forward, and he sees only blood. The witch has taken them to the day her coven took his family from him. Klaus feels himself crying out in pain. His throat aches, but he cannot hear his own screams. Silently, he watches every person he has ever loved be ripped to shreds.
Then, the images stop, as if the witch has paused them. In the distance, Klaus sees a blond curl. A flash of blue.
“You like horses,” he hears himself say. He watches her follow him with unamused eyes, an exhausted sort of smile flickering on her mouth.
“I’m not talking to you until you tell me why you invited me here,” she says, and even in the haze of an old memory he feels that throbbing ache in his dead heart.
“I fancy you,” he confesses blatantly. “Is that so hard to believe?”
“Yes.” There is shock in her voice. He hears that now. He didn’t back when the word was first spoken.
In a flash of light, the picture in his head moves, and she is there again, only this time she is wearing a dress that rides up her thighs with each frustrated step she takes. They skip forward a moment, and he is standing in front of her, speaking of hummingbirds.
Then, he is grabbing her by the hair and sinking his teeth into her neck. He can still taste her blood, feel it quench his centuries’-old thirst. Then, she is lying before him, and he is stubbornly refusing to save her.
“I know that you’re in love with me,” she says weakly. His chest burns as if she has pierced him with a stake. “And anybody capable of love is capable of being saved.”
He remembers exactly what he says next without needing to hear himself say it.
“You’re hallucinating,” he says, because she has found him out, and it frustrates him. It kills him. He can’t even look at her.
“I guess I’ll never know,” she whimpers, and his body goes still, and he looks at her with fear burning his eyes. He says her name. Once. Twice. No response, so he goes to her, lifting her head, and forces her teeth into his wrist.
The satisfaction of her feeding on him is indescribable. It’s like sinking into a warm ocean with no fear of dying.
The memories buzz forward, but come to a halt as the image of her in a red graduation gown bursts to life. She’s smiling at him. She never had smiled at him like this before. Like she forgives him. Or, at the very least, is starting to forgive him. And even with his heart in the hands of a fellow monster, a warmth spreads through Klaus as he looks at this phantom.
“Tyler is free to return to Mystic Falls.”
“What?”
“He is your first love,” he says, his lips tingling, warning him to stay silent. There is danger afoot. Always. And if he speaks these next few words, if he confesses to her, then she will never again be safe. He is assuring her doom. But he can’t help himself. He really can’t. So, he says it. “I intend to be your last, however long it takes.”
His lips burn as he presses them to her cheek, and as he pulls away, the image of Caroline Forbes splinters until she is no longer standing before him. In her place is the witch, whose face has contorted in hesitation. Confusion.
“You loved her,” she says, her eyes still glazed over. Terrible fear bursts inside of Klaus. “You still love her, I can feel it.”
“Please,” Klaus says, the word tasting of blood.
“How is this possible? You have never cared for anyone outside of your family for so long.”
He says it again. Debases himself again. “Please.”
The witch’s eyes snap back into focus. She stares at him, dropping her hand from his head, her pupils the size of pinpricks. “You’re just as human as the rest of us, aren’t you? The great Niklaus Mikaelson falling in love with a baby vampire. How pathetic. Maybe I should pay this girl—Caroline, yes?—a visit. After I’ve finished you off, of course.”
“No,” Klaus shrieks, though it comes out as a muffled groan. The witch has tightened her hold on his heart.
“There’s nothing you can do to stop me, Niklaus,” the witch taunts. She retrieves the white oak. “Nothing at all.”
But she is wrong. Klaus fell in love, and that love, the love that still courses through his blood, is not a weakness. For so long, he thought it could only be the source of his downfall. Of both of their downfalls. It’s why he made that promise to her in the woods. Why he has kept away from her for all of these years. But Caroline Forbes is in his mind again, and she is lifting his right arm, encircling his hand around the witch’s wrist, tightening his fingers so hard that a snap resonates from the bones in the witch’s forearm.
The witch screams in pain. Her fingers go limp around his heart, and in one pull he is free. Gasping, bleeding, Klaus scrambles to his feet. He wants to attack the witch. He lunges for her, but she disappears before he can get his hands around her neck. He grabs at air, staggering forward. Light returns to his surroundings. The families in the park eye him worriedly, but he pays no attention to their intrusive stares. There is nothing left of the witch. She has gone to search for her.
He must go too. Find her before the witch. Run away with her, like he should have done ages ago.
Klaus knows where she is. He always knows. In a flash, he is gone.
.
Rain splashes over his head, whipping him as a wind carries it forcefully into his face. He knocks again on the door. If it doesn’t open in five seconds, he will rip it off of its hinges.
The witch’s attack has worn him down. He feels sluggish. His chest smarts with each movement. He may be the most powerful being on earth, but having his heart toyed with like that has reminded him of the witch’s words. You’re just as human as the rest of the us.
Gearing up to burst through the wooden structure, Klaus stops short when his ears pick up on creeping footsteps. He recognises her footfalls, and suddenly there is an altogether new type of pain running through him. An anxiety. A trepidation. The door unlocks. Opens only an inch. Where he is standing, he can see through the slight crack. Her blue eyes pierce through the rain and sear a hole into his already open chest.
She gasps. The door falls open. “What the hell are you”— She doesn’t finish her question. Her eyes land on the fabric of his white t-shirt running pink with blood. “What happened?”
He is about to speak. About to explain. To beg. He takes one step forward, but a coldness seeps into his bones and he falls to his knees. His hands slam into the ground. He hears Caroline gasp again before a blackness consumes him.
.
Someone is stroking his hair. Running their fingers along his scalp and threading through his curls. He relaxes into the touch, which he knows he should not do. He should get up. He needed to tell someone something.
“Hey,” a voice says, right next to his ear.
Klaus opens his eyes slowly. Caroline Forbes tilts her head to the side. What alternate universe has he entered?
Then, it hits him. The witch.
Klaus sits up suddenly, realising momentarily that he must be in her bedroom. On her bed. Caroline’s hand falls from his head and she jumps to her feet.
“What?” she asks, a quiver in her voice.
He can imagine, just imagine it so well, how she has been living her life the past few years. Small town in Washington state. No lurking evil vampires. No werewolves. No magic of any kind. Working as a journalism teacher at the local high school. Pretending not to miss the menacing thrills that greeted her every day during her time as an infant vampire.
All that is about to change. There can be no more playing make-believe now.
“A witch,” Klaus sputters. “I killed her coven and she tried to get her revenge. She almost did, but I managed to get away, but not before she found you.”
Caroline’s eyes blossom. “Found me? Found me where?” She makes no mention of the fact that he wiped this girl’s coven from existence.
Klaus touches his temple. Then, he pats his chest, and it is here that he realises she has stripped him of his shirt. His wound has healed nicely. How long has he been unconscious? “She knows of our connection,” he says. “I have to get you out of here.”
“Out of here? What, so she’s hunting me down, preparing to kill me,” Caroline says mockingly. “I don’t attract that kind of stuff anymore. And if you leave me, like you promised you’d do for, like, eternity, I’m sure she won’t be able to find me. Bonnie lives nearby. I’ll call her and get her to cast a cloaking spell or something.”
“That won’t bloody work,” Klaus says, recognising the tang of metal still sitting on his teeth. “She is more powerful than you can imagine. She nearly killed me without using any sort of spell. Imagine what she could do to you.”
There it is. A small jerk of her eyes. A twitch. Caroline is afraid. “Yeah, but, what’s the point in killing me?” she asks. She has always done this so well. Pretended as if she has everything under her control. “I mean, what am I to her? I’m a nobody.” She laughs nervously. She has lost her touch after so long out of the supernatural spotlight. He doesn’t even need to be paying attention to pick up on her unease.
“You’re all I’ve got left,” he says, staring past her at the photograph of her and her group of meddling friends at their graduation. The room is spacious. Tidy. He remembers something about her love of cleaning.
“Klaus,” she says with a sigh, and hearing his name fall from her lips is almost enough to bring him to his knees once more. “That was a long time ago. Haven’t you moved on yet?”
“Have you?” he says, and she turns to see where his eyes have landed. Beside the window looking out onto the stormy, dark street hangs the picture he drew of her. The sight of it makes him ache for a time long since passed. He looks back at Caroline to find that she’s avoiding his eye line. “Run away with me,” he says, and he reaches out for her hand. It hangs limply at her side and she makes no effort to pull away.
“If I don’t,” she says, “the witch will kill me.”
“Yes.”
“And if I do . . .” she trails off, finally catching his eye. He has missed her. So much. “Okay.”
“Okay?” he parrots, unsure if he heard her correctly.
She nods. “I’ll go with you. You’re afraid, and if you’re afraid, then I’m absolutely fucking terrified.”
“You trust me?”
“I trust you.” She laughs, squeezing his hand. “Oh my, God, I can’t believe I just said that.”
And he laughs too, and it feels good, and he thinks maybe the time and the distance has been good for them. Enough to wipe away the toxic air of their past.
She’s missed the dangerous side of being a vampire. He can tell, because even though he has told her all about this coven’s history, their supremacy over the magical world, she is giddy as she packs a bag full of essentials. She has the workings of a small smile as she phones her boss to say she’s had an emergency and must leave town for an indefinite amount of time.
“Where do we go from here?” she asks when she’s done, and he thinks that, maybe, she has missed him too.
“Somewhere she’ll never find us,” he says. “Somewhere we’ll be safe until we can think of a way to kill her.”
Caroline finishes tying her hair into a bun and picks up her bag. She stands at the doorway in her bedroom, far away from Mystic Falls, but no longer far away from him. “Lead the way.”

Memory
A boy of about thirteen looked up as a slightly younger looking Joshua had shouted at him, the boy, Kai Parker, of course, flinched away slightly. Trying to numb the terror that would fill him at every hateful thing his father could shout at him " I-I didn't mean to. I really didn't. But I wanted it to be fair." The boy spoke before his bloody arm was being grabbed and the knife was being yanked out of his hand by Joshua who then backhanded him across the face before telling him it was a training. He and Josette were training to be powerful witches. Well, Josette was. Kai glanced over toward his sister, whose arm was bleeding due to a somewhat thick cut. She looked a little more irritated than hurt by the wound, at him.
Kai glanced around then cleared his throat " I can't, though... I don't have any magic, myself. How am I going to get better- It's not fair." Joshua turned away and muttered something about how it was probably destiny that would ensure Josette would be the coven leader, in the future. And that Kai was more or less just a practice dummy. Kai glared as he heard that " But I don't want to be a practice dummy. I have just as much chance and right to be the leader, as she does." Joshua turned on him and started to move to him, grabbing him by the arm he yanked the young boy close and locked his eyes on Kai's. Standing straight his felt his heart freeze in his chest, and fear begin to claw up his throat.
It was that look, that look that had suppressed his other yearnings. Trembling a bit as Joshua told him that no siphoner had ever been the leader of their Coven. Pulling his arm away as Joshua let go of him he moved to help Josette with her wounded arm and lift up the knife, warning Kai that he had to rely on his skill, in order to prove he was capable of even potentially becoming leader of the coven "But how?! If I can't get magic?!" Kai had shouted before Joshua turned on him and told him that he didn't know how, and that's why he would always be weaker compared to Josette. Kai watched the two head into the house then " Glinda, to my Wicked Witch..." Pouting a bit Kai turned and made his way off, he had to find something magical, to suck the magic out of.
But where was he going to start this search at.... Staring out into the vast nothingness that had surrounded their family home, the boy frowned, it was like they had intentionally lived in such a place to keep him from magic. Then, as they were magic themselves, left him tempted. The fire began to build, his skin lighting up as he felt the burning need to feed on magic once again take over.
Panting, tree's rushing by, the ground unsteady beneath his feet, the boy charged through the woods of the property. Slipping on a patch of leaves as he moved to duck behind a tree. Peaking around the side he huddle closer to the tree, gulping. His eyes shifting frantically around as several noises coming from different spots in the woods could be heard. Kai pulled away then, hiding behind the tree. His breathes heavy as he tried to figure out his escape. A voice of another boy came from somewhere in the woods, taunting him. Hearing movement in the leaves near him he ducked away just as a spell had been cast and a large rock hit the tree where his head had been. Swirling away, Kai took off deeper into the woods, several more rocks darting in his direction. One hitting him in the shoulder hard enough to make him turn, another rock hitting him in the side of the head as he was falling to the ground.
Kai glanced over as the boy who was attacking him grinned toward him and stepped closer, telling him that he had to be quicker than that. Kai winced, cupping his left hand around his ear, a bit of blood drizzling down the side of his head " I can only run so fast, Joey." Joey blinked as if the thought hadn't occurred to him that Kai was slow because he couldn't cast any spell like he could. Rubbing the back of his head the younger boy giggled and gave a 'Oops, I forgot' before giving a shrug and lifting their hand once more. Kai stood, shaking his head " Don't aim for the head, okay.  You should aim for the legs, or arms." Looking the other over he reached over and pat the top of their head " Don't want to kill your big brother now, do you?" Joey shook his head and told Kai that he had just been training, and said he would work on his aim "Yeah, that's the point..." Kai had muttered.
At thirteen his life was not like much of any others out there. His family were a bunch of witches. Who had belong to a Coven, who hated him. He was just learning about why his being a siphoner was such a bad thing, more than just not having magic like the rest of his siblings anyway.  Kai pointed Joey toward a tree " Aim at the tree until you get better-" As Joey had cut him off a bit to say that Joshua wanted them to practice on him, since he was a real live target, Kai narrowed his eyes " And when you are better at aiming, you can absolutely do that." He lied before turning and starting to run away from Joey "  After all, wouldn't you be so disappointed if you accidentally killed me too quickly, hah?"
A few minutes later he had stopped to rest, leaning against a tree and cupping his hands around his ears as he tried to push down the panic threatening to burst through his chest. Closing his eyes and focusing on just surviving this cruel training his father had putting him through lately. A test dummy. Of course. He was just a toy to them all. Something to improve on. Something that they could just put on a shelf once it was broken down. Kai fidgeted a little bit, his legs bouncing as he curled up into a tree. His side had been a bit singed from one of his other siblings practicing a spell with fire at him.  Then he had noticed it was silent. Lifting his head up from his hands he glanced around.
Suddenly he took off away from the tree, only for a spell to hit him and knock him off his feet and up into the air. His body twisting before hitting a tree with a thick thud. Landing on the ground Kai winced, and started to push himself up just as he heard the person who was attacking him approach. Lifting his head up it had been no one else than his twin, Josette " Getting better at this, Jo." He mumbled, blood dripping from his lips. She stared at him before nodding, telling him that she would become stronger, Kai sat up and moved to sit against the tree " Why, though?" He asked her, narrowing his eyes " What's the point, if I can't attack you back?" He questioned, his head tilting as he made a face.
Josette smiled and moved to sit next to him, giving his shoulder a shove as she answered that it was because Joshua had order them to. Then that they had to listen to their father. Kai let out a breath before looking up toward the sky and nodding " But what if one of you kills me before the merge?" Josette pulled away and glanced around before saying that she would never let that happen.  Kai felt himself disconnecting just then. It seemed odd, to have your family hunt you down and practice their developing spells on you and being constantly reminded that he was going to die and Josette was going to make that happen. The panic he was feeling began to disappear the more he felt himself pulling back into his mind. Even then, it was an escape, the physical body meant nothing, to him in these moments.
As Josette was prattling on about how she was going to win the merge and become a great coven leader for the Gemini Coven. Kai had continued to stare up toward the sky, watching some birds as they free flew out of the trees over head. Wishing that were him, that he could fly free of this cursed family. The teenager dropped his head down then as his other siblings began to show up, surrounding him and teasing him for having lost again. Kai grinned as one of his younger sisters dropped onto his lap and giggled cutely before prodding a finger into his face. Holding his hands out he made sure not to touch them back even as they were teasing him, and touching him. Balling his hands into fists, his eyes glazed over he continued to listen to his siblings brag.
Then finally Josette stood up and told the other children they were going to suffocate poor Kai if they kept it up and to get up, it had apparently almost been time for dinner. Josette stares at Kai a little longer as their younger siblings were walking away. She then asked if he were okay, informing him that she noticed this strange look in his eyes lately. Blinking the dissociation cut off as he pulled back toward the front and grinned at her "Oh? No. I'm fine. Great even!" Pushing himself up he took a few steps before wincing a bit "Well, a little beat up. But I was just thinking about....a game." Josette tilt her head before looking away and starting off toward the little ones, asking him about what game he was thinking of “Hm? Life.” Kai lied, scrunching his nose up a bit. Josette had smiled and pulled away muttering something about how he could be a pretty terrible liar.

So I wrote this for @electra-jolts-magnetism as a late birthday present. I just managed to finish it and so if it has any mistakes, that’s on me.
This is an au where Valtor not only defected from the Coven, but is in a relationship with both Griffin and Faragonda. (So it could be considered crack-ish, but it’s not entirely...)
All We Have Is All We Need
Faragonda groaned as she rose up, frowning when she noticed both her partners gone already. Something had to be up…
Sure, Griffin was usually up and in the kitchen working on breakfast by now, but Valtor? Unless he had a pressing deadline with the museum, he was usually stilled curled into bed with her.
Taking a deep breath, she noticed the familiar smells of breakfast being made. As sweet as it smelled, probably pancakes or crepes. (Maybe even cinnamon rolls.)
Faragonda rolled out of bed, allowing her magic to not only make the bed up (Griffin hated mess), but to get herself dressed and her brunette hair braided back. (She normally hated using magic to get ready, but it’d become habit during the war…)
Walking out of the bedroom and into the kitchen, she paused, taking a look at the witch. Griffin had her hair in a messy bun, her glasses hiding her piercing gaze as she worked at the stove. A burgundy sweater and jeans for her look today. (Her features were sharper today, tension obvious in the way she was biting at her cheek and pursing her lips.)
Faragonda moved to wrap herself around Griffin from behind, standing on her tiptoes to lay her head on the witch’s shoulder. “Wanna talk about it?”
“Good morning.” Griffin acted as if she didn’t hear her request, continuing on with breakfast. “Take your pick of coffee or tea this morning… I’m a little behind…” Her voice had that edge in it again.
Faragonda hated that tone, the one where Griffin was acting as if it was all fine but things were really just about to explode under the surface. Hated it.
“Griffin, what happened this morning?” Damn her and her tendency to sleep in. She should have woken up with the other two. “Does it have to do with why our wizard is already gone?”
Griffin extricated herself from Faragonda’s hold, her hands letting go of the whisk to let the mix settle. “Today’s sentencing…” She whispered, her voice threatening to break. “And he went. I tried to talk him out of it, tried to tell him it’d do no good… But he insisted he had to be there…”
Faragonda swore, leaning against the counters. Of course. They were still fucking their lives over from jail. Of fucking course they were.
And Valtor was caught in the middle… Torn between being the ‘dutiful’ son they’d raised and a soldier for the Company.
Son of a-
“Why didn’t you wake me? He couldn’t argue with us both.”
“You know how he gets about them. About all of it.”
“He’s not guilty of their crimes! He doesn’t have to bear their sins.” Faragonda argued, her anger rising.
Those three… Those three made Faragonda wish she had been a witch. The curses she could have slung. The hexes.
Arms wrapped tightly around her, Griffin’s lips pressing to her temple. “He left them to get out of their control… Why does he still-”
“They’re the only family he knows, Fara, and whether any of us understand or not, a part of him will always care about them and their approval. That sort of… Trauma… Just doesn’t go away.”
She felt her eyes tear up, her arms moving to hold tightly to Griffin. “Doesn’t make it right. Or fair.”
Griffin gave one of those mirthless laughs, her fingers tapping lightly on Faragonda’s back, right where her wings would emerge. The fairy felt herself give a soft groan, leaning more into the witch. “Life isn’t always fair, Faragonda… You and I both know that lesson far too well.”
She’d withdrawn from Faragonda after her statement, going back to the food. “Anyway…” She paused, seeming to try to find something, anything, to distract herself and the fairy. “What… Are you planning to do today? Because if you want, we could head into Magix and get what we need for our Yule feast…”
Faragonda frowned, crossing her arms. “We’re still celebrating?” Griffin shrugged, turning the stove top off and letting the pancakes and crepes cool off.
“Why wouldn’t we? Just because things are a little different this year doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate.”
A little different? Zarathustra, Ediltrude, and Griselda were most likely the only ones coming.
Saladin was in Callisto with his sister and nephew. Hagen was most likely at the Council for their hearing. Oritel and Marion were… They weren’t there anymore. And Valtor…
“Griffin… Are you sure this is a good idea?”
The witch paused, looking to her grocery list. “No. I’m not…” She moved to take Faragonda’s hand in hers. “But I have to do something… And… It won’t be the same as it used to be, but we can still…” She shrugged, shaking her head. “We could make it our own… Come up with new traditions… Just… Something to remind us that we’re alive.”
Faragonda couldn’t help but laugh, pulling her in for a hug. “Since when did you become Ms. Positivity? I thought that was my job?”
Griffin made a face and gave disgusted groan. “I think your personality is contagious… I may need to get checked out at the doctor’s later.” She draped a hand over her forehead. “Oh Doctor, I do believe I’ve come down with a case of Pixie Fever.” She taunted, making an over-the-top show.
Faragonda giggled, playfully shoving at her. “You’re awful!”
“And yet, you’re still here.”
“Because the apartment’s in my name.”
“And yet I’m the one who does the cooking. And the cleaning.”
“Valtor and I help!”
“You two make it worse!” Griffin pointed out, her face contorting into both fondness and disgust. “Or need I remind you of the Incident last year?”
Faragonda gave a sheepish smile.
Her and Valtor had both tried to help out with the Yule dinner. Griffin had been sick and they wanted to do something nice…
Instead of being rewarded for their good attempt, the fire department had been called and the apartment ended up needing to be fumigated. Since then, Griffin had refused to allow her or Valtor mess with ‘her’ kitchen unsupervised ever again.
“It was one time…”
“The fire department was called Faragonda. We nearly got evicted.”
“It was an honest mistake…”
“Faragonda, there are some things you just don’t mix.” Faragonda pouted at Griffin, giving her best puppy eyes.
“We said we were sorry… And we made it up to you.”
“We. Were. Nearly. Evicted.”
Faragonda sighed. “Everyone’s a critic…”
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Are you sure this a good idea?” Griselda frowned, pulling into the courthouse parking lot. “Surely shopping with Griffin would have been a better use for your time? Our Yule get together is coming up… And while I don’t normally celebrate witch-based holidays, I do feel we need to be celebrating more at the moment.”
Faragonda gave her friend a look. “I need to do this Griselda.”
“If he wanted you here, don’t you think he’d have had you come in with him?” Her friend pointed out. Faragonda sighed.
“Valtor just needs to be reminded that he’s not alone anymore. That Griffin and I are here for him.”
“Then why don’t you respect his need to keep you separated from them?” Griselda gave a shaky sigh. “Seeing them go to Omega won’t bring back Domino. All it’s going to do is bring up things we should have left well enough alone.”
Faragonda placed a hand on her friend’s shoulder. “Because he’s not the only black sheep in our relationship. I’ve been in his shoes, Gris… And I think knowing he’s not alone will do him worlds of good.”
Griselda looked up, as if saying a prayer. “Fine… Just… Don’t come crying to me if he burns you.”
The fairy gave a bit of a mischievous smile. “Valtor only burns me when asked.” She gave a wink, hopping out of the car before Griselda could swear at her.
(Okay, so maybe Griffin was rubbing off on her too…)
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was easy enough to get into the courthouse and toward the connected Council building. She could hear the Council men droning on and on about ‘justice’ and how the ‘wicked’ were going to pay for their crimes against the Magical Dimension. How an eternity in Omega would keep everyone else protected from their reach.
Hagen was front and center, his barely contained rage seething through his being and charging the air with negative emotion.
They were in their seats, smirking into the crowd as if they had no shame for what they’d done. (They probably didn’t. Shame wasn’t in their vocabulary.)
And Valtor…
He was closer to the back, sitting up straight and his shoulders tensed. Every part of his being was tensed.
The last time she’d seen him like that, it was after he’d left the Coven and joined the Company. How angry and hurt he’d been at finding out he’d been used and manipulated. Such a contrast from the Valtor she’d come to know who joked and was anything but the graceful wizard he was in battle.
She walked in quietly, sliding into the seat beside him and clasping his hand with hers.
“You shouldn’t be here.” She could hear him whisper/hiss, though she knew his gaze wasn’t on her. (But he wasn’t pulling out of her touch, so maybe this was the right move.)
“You’re here, so I’m here.” She leaned a bit, letting her head lay on his shoulder. “Do you honestly want me to leave?”
A pause.
“Stay if you want… But you may not like what you hear or see.” Ah. That was it. He was worried his own crimes (that he’d been pardoned for) would be brought back up. (Or that he’d have a breakdown.)
He’d done it once before. She and Valtor had gotten drunk on Dominian vodka and it went into a discussion of family. The moment they realized just how much they had in common… And the moment they realized just how much of a mother hen Griffin was. She’d been so pissed at them…
Instead of saying anything, Faragonda just raised her head up, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“How about we stop at that ice cream place after we get done here?” She eventually whispered, not wanting to press her luck with him.
A squeeze on her hand had her smiling. He’d like that. Very much.
 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If Griffin knew what Faragonda had been up to that day, she never mentioned it. Instead she’d went on as if it were a ‘normal’ day for them.
Dinner together and a movie. (Valtor’s favorites. Guilty pleasure/comfort food from the Callistian place in Magix that he loved so much and one of the few movies he’d gotten to enjoy as a kid.)
Which turned into a shower. (Not together, Griffin always complained there was not nearly enough room for any ‘funny’ business, so separate showers.)
Which led to bed. (Valtor’s pick of how he wanted things to go. Exploratory and slow and very much enjoyed.)
(They did love to spoil him on days like this, giving him what he wanted and more, if for no other reason than to see that look in his eyes. The look of worship and reverence. Care. Love.)
And the best way to end a day that started so wrong? Curling into one another for the night, safe and secure in each other’s arms, linked in soul and magic as well as in body.
(She always did love listening to his heartbeat, and linking fingers over him with Griffin. Completely together.)

Malam Manor
We all grow up with that once upon a time, crap. When you're little, you believe it. Who believes it as an adult? I mean, really? We have smartphones, rumbas, and clap on lights. No one meets a 17-year-old vampire who supposed to be 52. But I have, and I found his tapes by accident. Now I'm living a filliping ounce upon a time that Anne Rice would drool over. If I don't find the f-ing cave his sister is trapped in, I'm going to be enjoying a lot less sunlight for damn sure.
I know if I could figure out the details, I'll find the cave. And the murderer and maybe be spared, or I fail, and I'm the next Elena Gilbert. I sure hope not.
I'm just a damn tutor who needs money for her master's degree. Why did I even think that posting a flyer online was a good idea? Hell, my only tinder date turned out to be a 300 lb guy catfishing for a date to his sister's wedding. I stupidly, no innocently thought I'd get some pimply high school sophomore struggling through R and J and Shakespeare word salad.
Man, was I wrong? Mr. Cain Haywater answered my ad. Normal name for an average guy, right? Well, who the hell names their kid after the first murder in the Bible, but I'm getting off track. My ancient 98 jeep with more rust than metal is not going up the hill to the "Malam Manor." Later I Google it and turns out the word is Latin for bad. I should have asked Siri sooner. Too late, Cain Haywater a ward of the state. Because he's 17 and wicked rich is paying me 50 bucks an hour to help write his family's history.
This house is unusual in ways I can't even begin to describe. Its windows seem to follow you like eyes while I rev up the circle drive. The brick looks like it's from out of the Hogwarts rejection pile. The height makes it at least three floors, and there's a damn covered entry that carriages pulled under in the 19th century. Besides the semi-creepy outsides, even though it looks well maintained, I'm coming here close to 9 pm. Ounce, the sun is down on the hottest July night in history. I should have done a business major instead of English lit. Follow your bliss, my mom said. What does she know she's a nail tech for the last 12 years. She probably has brain damage from the polish fumes.
I can't imagine anyone hears my lame knock at the gigantic door. But I swear to God it seems like a cat or something opened the door. I thought maybe the heat melted my brain, but it looked like a fuzzy ken doll. It darted behind a curtain. Before I could investigate Cain, hold my breath beautiful, Haywater stands ten feet in front of me in his large foyer in black jeans, skin-tight grey shirt with a badass blue tattoo that seems to have a deep center that radiates over his forearm. I'm shook in so many ways I can barely speak "Nyx, Nyx Jackson?" My name never sounded so smooth coming out of any humans mouth ever. That was when my brain should have clicked over to reality that he wasn't human. He hadn't been human since 1989.
Sadly only 2 hours into my best tutoring gig ever, I discovered Cain Haywater was indeed a real vampire. And his beloved twin sister Danielle, Dani, as he referred to her, was just as dead only traped in a watery caved transformed into a rusalka for the last 34 years. I was Cains's last chance at finding her cave and the wort boyfriend a girl could ask for. Jefferson Granton. A 200-year-old vampire that he needed to kill. My life wasn't fair and only made worse by the fact that I'm sure I'm going to fail, and my last meal was crappy ramen.
It was my stomach and too much curiosity that made me start playing with the vintage tape recorder Cain had on the black walnut desk. He heard my growling belly and while he searched for food. I pressed play. Big mistake, I'm not sure where he went to kill the food, but I listened to almost one side of a cassette tape. The quick spark notes, once he came back with cheese, apples, and fancy crackers to catch me, went fast.
Back in May of 1986, he and his twin sister were graduating from Xaiver highschool. Somehow she latched on to an older college guy that wandered into town on a semester off to find himself. Jefferson Granton was mesmerizing, according to Cain, tall blond lovely to look at and even more interesting to listen to. He swept naive Danni off her feet on a cross country trip. He had a long term plan. One he had been cooking up for at least 100 years when Cain's family made a fortune in lumber and now stocks.
Jeffy boy started life as Jacarde Gulomar in the Brittany region of France. He accepted the gift of eternal life from a Norse vampire who wanted a mate. Jeff never entirely made his fortune and became a bad luck symbol for the covens all over Europe. Eyes on the new country to the west, he hopped a ship and arrived to wonder the grandness of the US just after the civil war. Comming upon early decedents of the Haywater clan. William Percy Haywater knew the deal equipped each member of the family with a hawthorn stake, holy water, and a warning against a freshly minted newly named Jefferson Granton.
No one fell for him until Danni, with all her beauty and openness, fell in love, and became a target for her trust fund. By the time the twins were 17, their parents were dead at the fate of a drunk driver, and a deaf Aunt looks after them. Danni fell under Jefferson's spell forgetting all caution to follow to the whispering cave. Now oddly in the middle of the mind-melting story, a flash caught my eye, and I met the grandfather like ken doll Cain shared his mansion with.
Pere was a domavoy who kept Cain and Malan safe as much as he could. Cain respects and adored him, so I was polite. Over the next three weeks, I moved in search their land every day when Cain joins me and feasts on Pere's cooking skills. His little face sparkled at each new dish he made for me after decades of blood bags. On steamy Saturday, July 31st, I finally found, or more fell into the mouth of the cave. Much of Cain's memory was erased on the night he watched Jefferson murder Danni while he hogtied in the corner of the damp cave. Only to meet a fate worse than Danni by forcefully being turned and compelled to kill and drain his Aunt of all her blood. Jefferson helps smooth it all over with some compulsion and tricks, but Cain secured his wealth in the next few days only to vanish. He picked a small fishing village in Maine, where he met Gabriel 100-year-old vampire who taught him to live and gave him advice on how to avenge Danni. Gabriel's plan centered on Cain coming home as his namesake's son Cain Haywater II. The mansion and his tie to Danni or Cain's greatest strength. It was clear why Jefferson failed to control them.
The night I stumbled into the cave, I wore my Danni look-alike costume Pere helped me pull together. I looked like a backup dancer on a Wham video. It was. It was to trick Jefferson, but oddly I caught the attention of another creepy creature a leshii in the woods. I thought it was Cain because the voice fit, and I felt drawn to the being. Only when it had led me halfway across the land did I catch a glimpse of its eyes. Pure white scalaris was not a hint of iris or pupil. Taking off back towards the cave, I felt two forces moving me one I can now sense with Cain, and the other I was damn sure was Jefferson. He'd been down a rough road probably because, in life, he was a bit of a narcissist. Only to have that enhanced by his Vampire Life, he thought I was Danni, and he'd Follow Me to Hell to get that money. Once we made it to the rippling silver pond within the cave, I laid eyes on Daniella. My wham costume was a joke compared to her beauty.
She swept as close to us as possible, shouting silently in my brain to turn now. Cain stands between me and Jefferson stake in hand slowly I fell to the wash of a cool breeze flowing over us which I knew mixed with my warm body temp to engulf Cain it was in that moment I saw the vague outline of a man just like he left a speakeasy in 1926. He became more gas-like to almost solid, yet I could still see right through him. He is handsome except for that visible gunshot wound to his right Temple. Why was I surprised that we now have a ghost to add to the mix. Pere spoke of the cave as whispered he claimed someone took their life after the 1920 stock crash here he was with eyes for Danni.
The extraordinary power Cain had wasn't just his home or his connection to his twin. It was that he could feel loved. He survived and lived by keeping his Humanity. I saw beautiful sparkling Jefferson with his flowing blonde hair realize it too. Cains power made the cave hum Jefferson was cocky, and that was very clear. He charged expecting to deflect the steak easily, but with Danni's strength and God help me my feelings for Cain. He drove the stake straight and true into Jefferson's lean chest.
Before I can blink Cain without a blade from his boot and with incredible strength severed the head like clockwork Cain without a new Zippo lighter and flicked it on to Jeffy. Making a roaring vampire candle. Can quickly turn to glance behind making a connection with Danni. "find your bliss" I heard in my head, and I knew Cain heard it too. The 1920s gentleman back into Danni as they drifted further back into the cave. We're only water held the floor we stood still.   "Nyx?" his velvet voice floated over me. I can only gape open mouth, watery eyes, and some snot beginning to flow. At that moment, my stomach rumbled loudly. He smiled a genuinely genuine smile with all the years that he waited. I knew without any doubt Cain Haywater would be in my future Tech probably my whole life, and I smiled too.

Trying to Make Sense of OUAT Season 7’s Timeline Part II- An Unsolvable Puzzle: The Coronation & Everyone’s Ages
Hey folks! Here I go again trying to explain things I will never fully comprehend! Please read part one (wicked-storybrooke.tumblr.com/post/177430184596/trying-to-make-sense-of-ouat-season-7s-timeline) to understand what the heck I’m on about a bit better.  Again, please feel free to add to this or to correct me if there’s something I’ve missed!
Now, for the coronation!
So first of all, I don’t know what’s going on with Pinocchio over here, since the last time we saw any version of him, he was adult August. I cannot try to explain this without my head exploding, so I’ll leave that part for now.
Tumblr media
So the coronation can’t have happened too long after the events in Storybrooke (with Curious Archer and the town folk) in 7x22, given the fact that young Robin was 5 years old at the time and young Neal is around a year older than her (I’m not sure if we were ever given an official age gap between the two). This means the Hyperion Heights characters cannot be in their own original timeline during this coronation. So after defeating Wish!Rumple they either: traveled back to the future xD so they could live out their lives in their own timeline and grabbed another time-hopping-bean and took a ride straight to the United Realms around 19-years-in the past just to have the coronation at that exact time; They time traveled around 3 years into the future from the time Robin meets her 5 year old self in 7x22, in which case they basically skipped time up until Hope is born, so that the coronation could be held at that exact time; alternatively they were trapped around 22 years in the past for 3 years at least or they just wanted to remain around 22 years in the past as compared to their original timeline? I think the option that arguably hurts the story least is the one where they returned to their own timeline after Rumple dies and defeats Wish!Rumple and just took a trip (22 minus 3 years, which would be) 19 years into the past for them or they waited 3 years in their own timeline and visited the UR for the coronation 22 years in the past. Sounds convoluted, I know and the biggest problem is why would Regina unite the realms in the past only to return to her own timeline. If that did happen I imagine she left the leadership of the United realms up to a bunch of other queens, kings, princes and princesses such as Snow and Charming for a hot minute up until her return in what would be around 3 years for them.
One thing’s almost certain, they must have definitely grabbed Tiana from Hyperion Heights and Zelena from San Francisco (both would likely be from the same timeline as the Hyperion Heights folk in Storybrooke’s). This is definitely the Zelena who was cursed to be Kelly, since this Zelena has magic and storybrooke!Zelena doesn’t regain magic until Robin’s 18.
Tumblr media
If the S7 Characters were stuck in the past or chose to remain there, how did Robin and Zelena not mess up the time-space-continuum??? This is assuming Kelly!Zelena didn’t hitch a ride straight back to San Francisco after her sister’s coronation. If we still put the coronation 3-5 years after the townsfolk chased Alice & Robin with axes & crossbows, then we can say past!Regina has already left to help past!Henry at this point. In fact, she’s definitely left because on the day she chooses to stay in the New Enchanted Forest, Emma is still pregnant.
Tumblr media
Now assuming every event occurs in a single timeline, the events in what was assumed to be Stoybrooke in 7x11, with 18-year-old Robin and Zelena had to have actually occurred in the Storybrooke section of the United realms. So why did neither of them or Regina mentioned that they already knew the future, that everyone would be absolutely fine, that the HH curse would break and that the Regina they just reunited with would eventually cast a curse to bring all the realms together?- Well, because of the space-time-continuum of course!! They’ve seen the movies, they know what’s up. No but seriously, there has to be some kind of memory potion involved (if it happens in a single timeline!). Maybe Regina took one before she left to help Henry and maybe Robin had one hell of an 18th birthday party with her mum and they mistook glasses of memory potion for party cocktails before they left (pssst….if anyone wants to write this crazy party, I’ll love u forever!) or Regina just gave them some when they arrived, knowing that the consequences could be severe if any of the Mills women already knew their future.
Tumblr media
Unless of course, by being in the past they created a whole new timeline or when the Coven of the Eight’s curse was cast, it didn’t only take them back in time and to another realm; It could also have taken them to an alternative timeline! A timeline where an alternative-timeline-version of Robin grows up in the United Realms (as opposed to the Hyperion Heights!Robin we know, who could have grown up in plain ol’ Storybrooke). I’m not sure if the second theory works without other giant plot holes though but I think it aligns with what we’ve seen of time travel in this show in the past.
Tumblr media
I was originally gonna say the coronation happened just after an almost 19-year-old Henry left to find his own story (Jack said Henry spent his 19th birthday with him at the Crimson Crow) but if what I’ve worked out i my previous post is correct, it has to be at least around 3 to 5 years after Henry leaves, when Hook is looking for a cure for his heart so that he can return to 10~ year old (plus or minus a few years) Alice. As previously mentioned, the coronation also has to have occurred months after pregnant Emma visits Henry in the New EF. Neal doesn’t look 11 at the coronation but it wouldn’t be the first time the writers have chosen a younger actor to play the role by mistake. I think Josh dallas said he was suppose to be about 7 but idk it’s kinda close. If we say Neal was 7 during the coronation, that would make Henry 19 during the event. That would mean he met Ella and Wish Hook when he was 19. But that doesn’t work because, as mentioned in my previous post, we know Ella is 14+ years older than Alice and around the same age as Henry. We also know that Ella meets a 17+ year old Alice in ‘Pretty In Blue’ when the older woman is at least 31. And we also know that Hook is looking for a cure when he meets Henry. Alice has to be about 5 or 6 when Henry is 19. I don’t think young Alice is 5 or 6 in ‘Knightfall’ and we know Hook meets Henry after he’s separated from his daughter, so the coronation has to have occurred at least 3 years after the Bayou Rolls into Storybrooke in 7x22. That would make Alice 8 or 9 when Wish Hook meets Henry (which is more plausible!).
Tumblr media
So that would mean Henry actually met Ella and Wish Hook when he was between 22 and 24 and so he’d be about that much older than Hope. 8 or 9 years later, he’d be between 31 and 33 when he meets 17+year old Alice. 30 makes the most sense, since Ella would be at least 31 and is likely a bit older than Henry, which would make Alice 8 when Hook is poisoned if we put past!Neal at 9 during the coronation. So, if we put Henry at 22 years older than Hope and if we say Henry is then 41-22=19 years, that would make Hope 19 in the present day, which would mean they are 19 to 20 years in the past during the coronation (depending on baby Hope’s age at the time). They were almost definitely 22 years into the past when 27-year-old Robin met 5-year-old Robin in 7x22, so it would make the most sense that around 3 years have past since 7x22′s Storybrooke shenanigans. Booyah!
Henry Meets Ella whilst Regina, Hook & Emma visit Henry and they meet Wish Hook
Tumblr media
Henry is 22~
Ella is 23~
Emma is 40~
Hook is physically 40~
Wish Hook is de-aged to appear like OG Hook, so is likely physically 40~ (I’m gonna say Wish Hook originally appeared older because he aged during his time-travelling adventure(s) as he searched for a cure (refer to part I) it’s quite a stretch, I know but it’s the only way I can make sense of it since these events had to have occured around 9 years before the events of 7x11 due to Robin & Hope’s ages at the coronation)
Alice is 8/9~
Robin is 8/9~
Wish Hook is briefly reunited with Alice and Ella & Henry visit wonderland & eventually Lucy is Born and Drizella is turned to stone
Tumblr media
Henry is 31~
Ella is 32~
Alice is 17~
Wish Hook doesn’t seem to age from here (probably because of the de-aging spell) so is still physically 40~
Drizella is 28~
Zelena & Robin travel to the EF2
Tumblr media
Robin is 18
Henry is 32~
Ella is 33~
Alice is 18~ and off on her travels
Lucy is 1~
Alice & Robin meet
Tumblr media
Alice 19~
Robin 18/19~
The curse is cast
Tumblr media
Henry is 39~
Ella is 40~
Wish Hook is physically 40~
Drizella is physically 28~ because she didn’t age when she was turned to stone but her actual age is 36~
Alice is 25~
Robin is 24/25~
Lucy is 8
The curse breaks (assuming 2 years past and they aged during this time)
Tumblr media
Henry is 41~
Ella is 42~
Wish Hook is physically 42~ (if the de-aging spell’s magic wore off in the LWM)
Drizella is physically 30~ but is actually 38~
Alice is 27~
Robin is 26/27~
Lucy is 10~
The present day Storybrooke folk when the HH curse breaks
Emma is 59~ (18 years older than henry at this time)
OG Hook is physically 59~
Hope is 19~
Prince Neal is 28~
The coronation
Tumblr media
Henry is 44~
Ella is 45~
Wish Hook is physically 45~ (if the de-aging spell’s magic wore off in the LWM, if not he’s still physically 40~)
Alice is 30~
Robin is 29-30~
Lucy is 13~
Wish!Henry is 19-21~ (refer to part I to understand why I think this)
Neal is 8-9~
Little!Robin is 8~
Pinnochio is ??!??!??
The Season 7 characters’ past selfs during the coronation (just after pregnant emma visits Henry)
Tumblr media
Henry is 22~
Ella is 23~
Wish Hook is physically 40~
Alice is 8/9~
Robin is 8/9~ (given past!Neal and past Hope’s ages at the coronation. Meaning there had to have been around a 9 or 10 year gap between the events of 7x02 and the moment Lucy was born since Robin was 18 when Lucy was still a baby in 7x11)

It’s Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus - Isaac Lahey
Summary: You get tired of Isaac constantly making witch puns about you but there’s a reason behind all his jokes
Isaac Lahey x Reader
Word Count: 2,122
Author’s Note: This one is borderline a Halloween imagine. It mentions Halloween movies and I only thought about it because of Halloween, so I’m counting it.

This time of the year was a dread sometimes. October. Halloween. There was always one person who knew your secret that liked to make witch puns. You could take a joke. You could laugh along, but sometimes it got old real quick. You were a witch. And no, not like the wicked witch of the west. More like Charmed. You’d even take Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Except for the flying on a broomstick thing... okay well maybe a few of your ancestors did that along time ago, but not anymore.
Even though you had your own coven, you did consider yourself apart of the McCall pack. You would think that with the pack consisting of such a diverse group of supernatural creatures, everyone would be a little more tolerant of the supernatural jokes. Stiles made one once every now and then, and usually they were pretty funny. And there were a few share of dog jokes. Being tied to a leash. Having flees. Isaac was usually the butt of those jokes, but that was because Stiles didn’t personally care for the brunette boy. Isaac was normally pretty quick to say something right back to Stiles. He also made a few witch jokes to you, too. You didn’t brush of the jokes with Isaac like you did with Stiles though.
The reason you probably took more offense to what Isaac said to you was because you had a crush on him. It felt like he only saw you as the witch of the group. Lydia Martin’s best friend and nothing more. So you didn’t laugh at the resting witch face jokes, or the ones about being on a witch hunt when they couldn’t find you at school.
It was only the middle of October and Isaac was already getting on your nerves. Just the other day, you, Kira, Scott, and Isaac were in the library working on your English papers.
“Does accommodate have one m or two,” Kira asked sitting across the table from you..
“Don’t ask me, I suck at spelling,” you said looking up at the kitsune.
“I thought witches were supposed to be good at spells,” Isaac said a smirk on his face.
“Ha. Ha. Very funny,” you said in a monotone voice. “Did you come up with that one yourself?”
“Right off the top of my head,” Isaac said.
“Well, I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. This one’s learned to make a joke.”
The smirk on Isaac’s face fell a little and you went back to working on your paper, not giving him anymore attention.
“He probably does it because he likes you,” Lydia said casually while she observed her freshly done nails. School was over for the day, and Lydia was waiting for you to get your things so the two of you could go home. You were still annoyed by Isaac’s little joke, so you had to tell your best friend.
You huffed then replied, “Yeah, right.”
“No, think about it. Remember in the first grade when Johnathan Meyers used to always play with Rachel Pearson until the other boys made fun of him for having a crush. Then he started picking on her even though we all knew he wanted to keep playing with her.”
“You’re saying Isaac’s being a first grader and picking on me when he really likes me? There’s no way that’s possible.” You grabbed your last book, shoving it into your backpack, then began walking to Lydia’s car.
“It’s completely possible, Y/N.”
“Is this some sort of banshee prediction? Because I could have sworn you predicted death, not love lives.”
“No, it’s a I-have-an-IQ-higher-than-anyone-at-this-school thing,” Lydia said smiling.
You smiled at your friend. “You got me there, Lydia.”
A few days later, it was pack night and everyone was over Scott’s house. Since Halloween was next week, everyone decided to watch Halloween movies.
“Let’s watch Return of the Jedi,” Stiles shouted next to Lydia on the love seat.
“Since when is Star Wars a Halloween movie,” you asked placing a bowl of popcorn on the coffee table before taking your seat on the other couch.
“It’s not. I think it should be in the running because it’s one of the greatest movies of all time.”
“We’re not watching Star Wars, Stiles,” Lydia said making a disappointed look appear on his face.
“What about Nightmare on Elm Street,” Scott suggested.
“Don’t we get enough psycho killers in our lives without having to watch them on TV,” you asked. Everyone nodded and mumbled agreeing with you. “How about a lighter Halloween movie? Like The Corpse Bride?”
“Oh! What about The Nightmare Before Christmas,” Kira asked excitedly.
“Isn’t that more of a Christmas movie,” Stiles asked.
“It’s both,” Malia said munching on one of the Pillsbury Halloween cookies with a ghost on it.
“Maybe we should watch Hocus Pocus,” Isaac suggested out of no where. He had been quiet all night, so you felt like he was up to something.
“Why Isaac,” you asked crossing your legs as you leaned back into the couch. “So you can ask me where my broom is or if I know the Sanderson sisters personally?”
“I wouldn’t do that, Y/N,” Isaac said popping a piece of popcorn into his mouth as he sat on the edge of the love seat near Stiles. “We all know you related more to the evil Queen from Snow White. You could turn into that old hag she turns into any minute.”
“You know what,” you said standing up, “I’ve had it up to here with you, Isaac.” When you said “here,” you used your magic and lifted Isaac into the air. Both Scott and Lydia yelled your name. Scott stood in front of you trying to get you to look at him, but your eyes were glued to Isaac as you concentrated on your magic.
“Put him down, Y/N,” Scott said in his firm alpha voice.
You slowly began to let him down, but just before his feet touched the ground, you dropped him and he fell on his butt.
“I need to get some air,” you said angrily then went out the back door.
After the door shut, Isaac was still on the floor with his bruised ego. Scott stretched his hand out to help the beta up and Isaac accepted.
“Should someone go check on her,” Stiles asked. He wasn’t Isaac’s biggest fan, so he didn’t mind the stunt you pulled, but he wanted to make sure you were okay.
“I know Y/N,” Lydia said sitting back down on the couch like nothing happened. “She just needs a few minutes to herself to cool off.”
Everyone listened to Lydia since she knew you best and went on with the movie night. Stiles pulled up The Addams Family on Netflix and everyone settled in to watch. Isaac waited a few minutes until everyone was engrossed in the movie then snuck out the back door to talk to you.
You heard the back door squeak open and you didn’t turn to face whoever it was.
“I’m not ready to talk yet, Lydia.” You pulled your arms across your chest tighter.
“It’s not Lydia,” Isaac said from behind you. Your shoulders tensed up. You weren’t expecting Isaac to be the one to check on you.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” You didn’t even flinch at Isaac’s words. He came closer and sat down next to you on the porch steps. “I’ll stop with all the witch jokes.”
You sighed before you spoke, “I’m sorry for levitating you.”
“It was kind of fun actually,” Isaac admitted and you finally looked at him. The porch light wasn’t too bright, but you could make out all the features of his face and a few curls in his hair. Why did he have to be so cute?
When you didn’t say anything, Isaac felt like he needed to keep apologizing. “I don’t mean to make you mad. I just never know what to say to you. Then I see Stiles joking with you, and I thought that could work for me to.”
“You did all that just to talk to me,” you asked looking at him a little confused.
“Well, yeah,” Isaac said shrugging.
Cocking your head to the side you said, “You could have just spoke to me. Just start a conversation.”
“I couldn’t just start talking to you,” Isaac said fidgeting with his fingers.
“Well you’re doing it now,” you said with a small smile on your face.
Isaac chuckled rubbing the back of his head with his hand. “I guess I am.”
“And why was it so hard to talk to me. I’m not a werewolf... I don’t bite,” you said then giggled at your joke.
“I get flustered around you. It’s like I can’t speak to you like a normal person.”
“Neither of us are normal people, Isaac.”
“Yeah, but you’re this badass, powerful, smart, incredibly cute witch, and I’m just some orphaned beta who can hardly keep his grades up.”
“Isaac, you are so much more than an orphaned beta,” you said placing your hand on his knee to comfort him. “Wait, did you just say I was cute,” you asked smiling now realizing what he said about you.
“Um, I... I mean- yeah,” Isaac said nervously.
“That’s why you couldn’t talk to me,” you said more to yourself than to Isaac. “You like me, don’t you?”
Isaac’s head was looking down and he tried to avert your gaze. You moved your hand that was on his knee and turned his head to face you.
“I do.”
You closed your eyes shaking your head. A combination of a sigh and a giggle left your lips. “Lydia is never going to let me live this down.”
“Live what down,” Isaac asked watching you.
You opened your eyes and met his gaze. “That she was right about you liking me. This whole time I thought you didn’t. You picked on me the same way you do Stiles.”
“Stiles made witch jokes, too,” Isaac pointed out.
“Yeah, but his didn’t get to me like yours did. I cared more when it came from you.”
“Why?”
“Because I like you, too, idiot,” you confessed grinning.
“Wait,” Isaac said blinking a few times. “You like me,” he asked pointing at you then himself.
“Yes!”
“And this isn’t some mean joke to get back at me for all the witch jokes?”
“No,” you laughed.
“Are you sure? Because you were pretty mad earlier. I mean you did have me floating in the air for making a Snow White reference.”
“If I didn’t like you back, would I do this,” you asked before you grabbed his face and kissed him. For a brief second, Isaac was stiff as a board. After he realized you were actually kissing him, he began to kiss you back. When you pulled back, your hands stayed on his face.
Isaac licked his lips then spoke, “No, I don’t think someone that didn’t like me back would do that.” You smiled at the dazed look on his face. “You mind if we try that again,” Isaac asked. You pulled him back into you and his hands automatically fell onto your hips. You always imagined what it would be like to kiss Isaac. How it would feel to have your hands run through his hair. Where he would place his hands on your body. If his lips were soft or not.
Suddenly you heard a loud thud. The both of you turned your head to the back screen door to see Stiles with his mouth agape. “Everything is fine you guys,” Stiles yelled turning around. “They’re just making out.”
You groaned knowing as soon as you walked back into the living room, everyone was going to pester the two of you about what just happened.
“We don’t have to go back in there if you don’t want to,” Isaac said.
“I don’t want too,” you replied shaking your head.
“You could always put a mute spell on Stiles so we don’t have to hear his voice again,” Isaac suggested even though he knew you wouldn’t do it.
“How about I put a mute spell on you,” you said giggling as you placed your hand over his mouth.
Isaac grabbed your hand, removing it from his mouth.“You don’t have to do use magic to do that,” he said in a low voice, his eyes flickering from your eyes to your lips.
“You’re so lame,” you said, but you moved in closer to him. Isaac met you half way. His lips connecting with yours in a sweet kiss. If kissing him was the only way to get him to shut up, you didn’t mind it one bit.
