I put off watching Lost You Forever because I've read the book and reviews said it wasn't the best of adaptations (and it's a great book!), but so far what I've seen is the sort of needed adaptations. Can't spend too long on the details on a TV adaptation, gotta make fewer scenes be more impressive.

Also, perhaps having read the book means I'm primed to understand the meaning of some scenes that would fly over the head of someone who hasn't read it? What I mean is that I'm very much not doing a neutral watch here, I cheered the first time Xiang Liu showed up ^^

Anyway I'm on episode 16 of 39 and there is a second season, so catch me saying the opposite later when they start doing big incoherent cuts or something.

Have a scene that has the correct vibe of the book (in prints because I am incapable of making gifs)

N for the character opinion bingo. Bonus if it ties to N in Hisui AU

My first bingo and it's for N. I am. Not surprised. I think about this guy way too much. Unfortunately, there is no square for "I want to be this friend so badly" so just imagine that's there somewhere.

To tie this into the AU as requested, there's a lot of overlap between these for how I generally think about N and for the AU. Bastard specifically is one of the ones that goes between the two. I love it when N's mean and that aspect of his personality is really on display in the Hisui AU. And then obviously, canon isn't real if I don't look at it is an obvious one; it's very much a self-indulgent AU that isn't canon aligned at all. Just in general, I tend to combine the canons of the Pokemon Adventures manga and the games when creating with N in mind so that is also applicable to him outside the AU as well.

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.
