First post of the new year! Thought I should post my first proper drawing of the new year - and so, why not the matching ones?

I usually make one of these doodles for the weeks my friends play DND as a reminder we play that week (though sometimes we have to cancel y'know how it is), and I put special effort into this weeks since it's the new year! My guy is half dragon, tis his year!

article anon here! no, I wasn't trying to argue, I just thought you'd find it interesting :)

Yeah I figured as much! I loved it! Love recommendations of any kind! But especially academic literature when it comes to Greek and Roman studies. I hope you didn't take offence to me using it as jumping off point.

It brought up some interesting things I wasn't aware of, such as how long the cult of an armed Aphrodite was present in Sparta or the Middle Eastern influence in Corinth, one of her biggest centres of worship in classical era mainland Greece.

With that said, my one big issue with the article is that it's from 1985. So, while yes it brings up a bunch of interesting ideas, I'm not sure how relevant some of them continue to be today or how much contemporary scholars would agree with some of Graf's theories.

Nevertheless, it was for sure an interesting read. Even more so because I have a habit of critiquing and reviewing journal articles which gave me the motivation to research and elaborate on my own opinions pertaining to Aphrodite and Ares.
