i was just thinking about how it wouldnt be terribly implausible for beetee’s unborn child to have died in finnick’s games. sotr took place during the 50th games, which means by the 65th games, the kid wouldve been 14 or 15. you could say “oh, well, they wouldve been reaped as soon as they turned 12” but like, not really. it would be much more devastating for beetee to have to wait to see if his baby is going to be reaped just like their older brother. beetee would expect it at 12 and 18 since those are the first and last years theyd be eligible, but 14/15 would be more unexpected (though im not saying beetee wouldnt expect it, just less so). imagine beetee seeing this 14-year-old finnick come home after beetee’s own died (at the hands of finnick? maybe, but i think it’s more likely to be otherwise based on beetee’s and finnick’s dynamic) and seeing his own child in a broken boy’s face.

The day was supposed to be simple.

You perched atop a crumbled temple ruin, legs dangling over the mossy stone, casually brushing dust off an ancient poneglyph slab. The symbols glowed faintly under your touch, and you tilted your head thoughtfully before speaking aloud in a clear, ancient tongue.

A bird cawed somewhere above, startled into flight — but otherwise, the jungle remained eerily quiet.

Unbeknownst to you (well, actually, you had sensed them miles away — you weren’t clueless), five very unwanted visitors were lurking nearby.

“This is it,” Spandam whispered, waving his arms like an overexcited tour guide. “The ruin where the said energy signature came from! Move it, CP9!”

"Tch, keep your voice down, idiot," Lucci muttered, hands stuffed lazily into his pockets, but his eyes sharpened in the direction of your voice.

"Huh? You hear that?" Jabra’s ears twitched as he sniffed the air dramatically. "Someone’s already here!"

"Impossible," Kalifa adjusted her glasses, heels clicking softly as she moved through the brush. "No civilian could've bypassed the government’s perimeter."

"Unless they’re better than you," Kaku quipped with a cheeky grin.

Kalifa glared. "You wanna test that theory, Giraffe-boy?"

They emerged from the dense foliage like a pack of chaotic hyenas, just in time to see you — calm, glowing faintly under the light of the poneglyph — speaking it aloud.

Dead silence.

You finished the last line, tapping the stone gently as if saying goodbye to an old friend. "Huh. That was easier than last time." Then you turned casually, meeting four wide-eyed CP9 agents and one screeching Spandam.

"Wh-WHAT?! Another one who can READ THEM?!" Spandam screeched, practically foaming at the mouth. He turned to his agents. "Capture them immediately!! They're government property now!!!"

You dusted off your hands, unfazed. "…Tch. Was hoping to avoid this." You rolled your neck until it cracked and lazily picked up your weapon of choice — a strange-looking whip, glowing faintly with ancient runes.

Lucci blurred forward with Soru, fingers twitching with deadly Shigan precision. But you sidestepped smoothly, your own body flickering with a power that looked suspiciously like Soru — but faster, a custom technique you called "Phantom Step."

He grunted in surprise, landing where you were, not where you are.

Kaku came next, flipping into the air with Rankyaku, sending a blade of compressed air slicing toward you.

You spun your whip, the ancient runes shimmering. With a casual flick, the whip shattered the air blade with a crack that shook the ruins.

Kalifa tried to close in with her Awa Awa no Mi powers, bubbles already forming between her fingers, smirking.

"Don’t worry, I’ll make you nice and clean," she purred, blowing a kiss laced with shimmering soap bubbles.

You blew her a kiss back — and in the same motion, snapped your whip to dissolve her bubbles mid-air.

"Sorry, sweetheart," you teased coolly. "I don't do bubble baths on first dates."

Kalifa stammered, cheeks flushing pink.

And then, Jabra — sweet chaotic Jabra — lunged at you in hybrid wolf form, snarling, fangs bared.

"You won't be so cocky once I chew your—"

You ducked under him mid-sentence, used Phantom Step to appear behind him, and flicked his ear with two fingers. "Down, boy."

Jabra yelped, skidding face-first into a wall.

"WHAT ARE YOU FOUR DOING?! CAPTURE THEM!!" Spandam shrieked again.

The CP9 agents stood there, battle-ready… but weirdly hesitant.

Because now that they’d actually seen you — how you moved, how effortlessly you dismantled their attacks, the cool confidence radiating off you — …it was way less about capturing you and way more about "holy shit, they're hot."

"They're… impressive," Lucci muttered under his breath, narrowed eyes lingering on the curve of your mouth when you smirked.

"No kidding," Kaku agreed, grinning wide.

"I wanna wrestle them," Jabra said immediately.

"Pervert," Kalifa and Kaku said in perfect unison.

You stretched lazily, letting your whip dangle at your side. "Look," you said, voice dripping with casual arrogance, "I don’t have time for government clowns. I got bigger stones to read, if you know what I mean."

Jabra visibly wagged his tail.

You decided it was time to leave.

But not without a little gift.

Later that night, when CP9 regrouped at their makeshift camp — bruised, flustered, and thoroughly bewildered — they found something waiting for them in the center of their campfire:

A small, folded piece of parchment.

On it: a crude little doodle of all four CP9 members getting their asses handed to them by a stick-figure version of you, labeled “ME :)”. And underneath, in neat cursive: "Catch me if you can. - (Y/N)"

i miss my choir so i'm gonna rant a bit about what voice parts i think the galar/paldea kids would have because i want to

gloria is a mezzo voice, but typically sings alto. she has a charisma that keeps the choir motivated and is also really slow at reading sheet music

victor sings bass and is able to keep his low notes pleasant and not heavy. he's also considered the most reliable because of his kindess. bass section leader.

hop is a tenor with a decently flexible range, more often than not filling in for the lower voice parts when there's not enough people there. his smiles and high energy are contagious and gets everyone in the choir in a good mood

bede is an unexpected baritone, which surprised everyone in the choir during voicing since they thought he'd sing tenor. not only is he a great singer with a vocal coach (opal), he also has impeccable stage presence

marnie sings soprano (to the shock of everyone who thought she'd sing alto) and high notes fall out of her face SUPER easily, like she makes it look effortless. she's also musically inclined and often has a crowd of other singers following her around for either advice or just to try and get closer to her. it never works.

peonia sings alto, and is tied with Bede for best stage presence. it's become a friendly competition between them to see who receives the most compliments after a concert (although she believes she's a better singer than Bede). alto section leader

juliana is an alto that's loud to a fault, the kind where the director has to stop and say "you're being too loud" (remember! choir is all about finding balance! it's as strong as its weakest link). she sucks at reading sheet music but she is fun to be around!

florian is a tenor with a "singer-songwriter" kind of voice (similar to cavetown!), although he mainly keeps to himself, he's better with sheet music than juliana and is always willing to help others out. tenor section leader

arven is a baritone that can sing tenor, but he only sings tenor if there are very few of them in the choir. he's usually found singing while cooking, and doesn't like to draw attention to himself during rehearsal but it happens a lot because juliana likes to mess with him

nemona is capable of singing both alto and mezzo, but she's way too loud for her own good (not as loud as juliana though) and shines better as a soloist where she doesn't need a mic. she also helps juliana with sheet music. mezzo section leader

penny is a soprano who's opposite to her sister in almost every way. she's very quiet and has negative stage presence but also understands music theory really well! but only in technical aspects, she has no idea how to be musical. florian and penny often sing together to try and get out of their shells

giacomo is a baritone that can drop down to bass. he's also musically inclined, more often that not being the quickest to deciphering sheet music and being GODLY at sight reading. he sometimes composes songs for the choirs and would most def be the bartione/bass section leader. giacomo also gets along well with marnie!

mela is an alto that borders mezzo, but she also hates being in the choir as a concept because it goes against the image she built up for herself (she genuinely loves being in the choir though). she hates sight reading with a passion

atticus is a tenor, and often has a better time understanding classical pieces and gospels over jazz or contemporary pieces. he's eccentric, but is also the fastest at getting everyone their required choir outfits for any occasion (js, he would eat up nelson mass in d minor)

ortega is a fairly flextible tenor/baritone, but despite his beautiful singing voice, he would much rather play the piano. he'll still take any compliments you give him. he and bede prob get into (playful) fights a lot and often compete for solos

eri sings soprano and is a very powerful one, although not in the same way juliana and nemona are loud. everyone thought she'd sing alto but voicing her revealed she had a pretty, shimmery singing voice

kieran is a tenor who can reach some baritone notes but struggles to keep them consistent. everyone around him is real supportive of his efforts, and it's really embarassing him!!

carmine is a mezzo, but she claims to be a soprano. she tends to overexaggerate her singing ability, but is definitely not a bad singer by any means. often scores well in solo competition

crispin sings tenor but cannot keep in time with everyone else to save his life. he's usually the reason why songs go way faster than or normal, or falls behind everyone else. he is working on it, and although lacey tries her best, she's more of a distraction than anything

lacey has a super flexible singing voice able to sing alto notes through soprano notes, and typically sings soprano. her kindness in the choir makes her a real reliable source of help, but she's also really strict about her music theory teaching! soprano section leader

amarys is an alto that's capable of going down to tenor and often gets shuffled around a lot. despite her great vocal technique, her lack of expression often gets in the way when doing more upbeat songs. alto section leader

drayton is a bass that does not do any practice during rehearsal and often slacks off and dozes off. despite this, he somehow gets the set list memorized and perfected by the time concerts roll around and also has more than decent sight reading skills. everyone (except carmine) is scared of him.

okay. im using this now as an excuse to make myself post about noeul/masked officer because erm. Anyway I LOVE NOEUL/MASKED OFFICER 💞💞💞 THEY ARE SO TRAGIC AND SILLY AND RAAAAAAHHHH

basically my timeline for them is officer meets noeul in da hospital ofcofc (noeul never really ever learns why exactly he was there)(its a common theme in their relationship that officer always knows more about noeul than she does about him)(like seriously she only knows his given name..not even his familial. and he kinda keeps everything about himself ambiguous on purpose yk) and when she's discharged it's at such a close date to the games (cus he recruited her in the hospital) so he just kinda lets her stay with him and they bond that way

and also she sticks by him during the games And thats where they earned the dynamic of officer kinda protecting noeul when theyre at the games (cus 005 and 007 mention the officer like. "cutting her off" so it could imply protection during the games from other guards or whatnot yk. could also be anything tee bee aych And probably is also about other things..but it falls under the umbrella)

So anyway when the games end noeul is still staying w/ him for a little (theyre saving up to buy her that fuckass mini-van so at least she has something)(yes the same van she has in the current time)

maybe after a few years or so (atp they only see each other a few times a year to js like check in, catch up, hangout, talk about work or whatever idfk, but they dont see each other often, not like regular friends would, really) they both realise oh shit i. like them as more than a friend...zoinks !!! and they both are worried about it for different reasons

noeul ofc is terrified of losing people she loves or having to abandon them and the officer has spent basically his entire life alone so he 1. isnt even 100% sure if he's in love and 2. if he is, he doesn't know what to do with that

anyway blah blah they eventually "get together" but theyre not really together but like. they are but theyre not You know, super simple (/sarc) and yada yada blah blah inevitable "break-up" 3 years before current timeline cus they actually suck in a relationship !!! (noeul cant reciprocate love very well because she's still terrified of if she lets her guard down that she'll immediately lose him; the officer hasnt let go of his selfish tendencies and act without regard for others still)(so they clash a lot and end up ghosting each other during conflict and fighting a lot and it ends up always with the officer never apologizing)(and also he doesnt know how to ask for things from people either so he feels unloved in the relationship cus noeul isnt providing enough reassurance for him but he doesnt ever tell her this so she never knows but then he gets sad so 💔)

so anyway break-up era Basically they both miss each other and are tryna act nonchalant about it "Im a loner at heart i can EASILY disregard this multi-year situationship that changed my life forever and get over it super fast" LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER yeah they think about each other all the time, cigarette smoke reminds noeul of him, the officer always scans crowds for the slight change of him finding her. just to look at her again

so. i'd say im pretty normal about them

wild theory, but hear me out

so you know how i like to compare olaf’s family with r’s family (the count and his son who inherited the title, the duchess and her daughter who inherited the title) + (both being orphaned not as a little kid but later), and that’s also why i prefer to hc o’s father not being in vfd (we know r’s mother canonically isn’t, see the end), although i do think o’s mother was but that’s another story (i also once wrote a snippet of o’s mother and r’s mother being bffs who almost became something more but didn’t, try to picture, like, the way js is to js).

Hi everyone Hope your summer is still going on fine. It will soon be Labor Day and autumn will be near. I promised an afterword to my summer of 1998, where I thought that was the most interesting time.

I learned much valuable information and was able to hold a job in a software development role.

To give a summary for the purpose of the job assignment, it was to gain experience in software development. I did not have the full access to databases and file servers, but it was a good start. As mentioned before, the Unix file transfer system was very primitive, in comparison with the file transfer and publication software options of today. I also got along well with my colleagues, and we had some fun events. And I donated a pound or two of filter coffee in its original packaging, here and there, to help out, as the office cannot function without coffee. Tuesday the 18th August 1998 I made it home safe and sound through St. Louis and SFO.

So what happened between the 19th and 23rd August 1998? I had enrolled in my Autumn 1998 courses, mainly requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree and one fun course.

I prefer to speak, maybe around late May 2019, about why I took Macroeconomics and Critical Thinking, as those are considered to be more geared towards freshmen, and in previous years, I had taken equivalent courses eliminating the need for those. Long story for now. So this leaves just two more courses for the Spring 1999 semester, required for graduation.

We had a family dinner at an Indian buffet restaurant, I think somewhere close to my first residence around the El Camino Real and San Antonio Road in Mountain View. I particularly liked the Chicken 65, tandoori lamb, idlee and sambar, and saag paneer (spinach and cheese curds). And also lots of chai to drink. It was a fitting celebration to mark the end of a successful job assignment.

At some point in May 1998, my car had some issues with the rear axle, so that was repaired during my absence. I would not have to worry about that axle the rest of the year. Tires were fine. Just one thing, the tape player in the stock radio (original from September 1983) did not work since I guess May 1997, so I had to rely on the radio, or a makeshift mini speaker and Aiwa HS JS 475 setup. I probably will not make any long posts between now and 23 May 2019, but that remains to be seen.

I hope you enjoyed my stories on Summer 1998, and I also hope you will have some times in your life, where decades later, you might be able to recall, with or without visual/auditory aids, most of the details of the events. Circa Solar - realign with the nature of time

For emerging practices we were encouraged to look at a technological kick starter of our choice and identify our personal positions, the practice of it within the creative arts and industries, Articulate propositions and highlight alternative and future directions of the said artefact within the said industry. 

Circa Solar. On my initial encounter with Circa Solar, it looked like a fun approach to the concept of time. It sells itself as an alternative clock, based around “the nature of time”. I thought this was an interesting and certainly an aesthetically engaging concept. From a shallow perspective, the whole article on Kickstarter was well-curated, colour coordinated, flashy, clean and had a lot of information from the artefact itself to the philosophy behind it. 

It was my pretentious side that grasped to this idea that “I don’t need numbers for the time, this is way cooler” or “This is more natural for my body rhythms” and other naive thoughts. And the more I read the more caught out I was about how clingy it was. 

We depend on time telling for everything in our culture, it is the main structure of our society. We do everything based around time. The stance they were taking, however, was to change the view of time into the visual concept rather than numerical. 

First, look

The contemporary aesthetic included a lot of cohesive colour work in a bright sunlight yellow, contrasting this with a black and grey accent. This theme was used on all imagery, from photography, design and film. It was obvious they wanted an overall impactful “look” for this product. It did make it look professional and well organised, though when I watched the video I was introduced to the concept with a robotic voice over. It was well informed and to the point and used big words to further drive the importance of their research behind the project. It was clearly a persuasive approach into convincing us that our current reading of time was potentially a “toxic delusion”. 

Though I understood the language they were using, it was a language that would be considered more academic than marketable in my opinion. Their language usage was also concise but ultimately intimidating. It came across as existential and conceptual, rather than whimsical, which I think is a loss, they take themselves too seriously so me to take them seriously.  

They believe this is the solution to the additive “short term thinking” that our current culture is subject to. Using sentences like “if you choose to support solar in this critical moment in time” and overall sense of urgency, the language indicates that their main goal is to enter a new chapter of telling time. I think though, to me, it sounded pretentious. The words and overall approach seemed like an overpromising application. It seemed like they were building up this huge influential project and it would change the world. I was just waiting for a “and much, much more” sentence. 

They separated their explanation from its most simplistic approach to its most complex. I did feel this was effective and worked well for the average viewer, it allowed you to see as little or as much as you want. Chapters are as follows…

What don’t they say is that this will replace time altogether, but it does seem to have a negative look on the current way of telling time, where that be analog or digital, as far as I know, this is all numerical based rather than visual sundial style. I think there is. the reason why we as people in society graduated from the sundial approach to telling time, to a numerical approach. They also don’t seem to mention anything about sundials and how they were a mix of numerical and visual time telling value. They also seem to compare humans to plant life and the “natural” cycle of light. Funny enough, we aren’t plants, we are people. Time to me at this point is a necessary and essential part of society these days, and it is that way for a reason, which I plan to further investigate. Text, Labels Signs are extremely well curated, it looked like everything was perfectly made to empower their message. It also looks like everything is completely staged and based on theory, rather than practice. I would have loved to see someone use their form of time telling for a week. As I think the biggest concern for people would be being late to things. I know that would certainly concern me.

They had a lot of visual features including, imagery, photography, gifs and video. This was mainly used to show their movement of time. 

Things I would note on.

-Didn’t show a human interactive experience, even the voice over was obviously robotic. 

-Going backwards not forwards to me

-seems to be more aesthetically based than practical 

-would be cool if it was added to current time telling, with out the numbers it reminds of me of “island time” or “meet me at noon”. Doesn’t work in an urban sense and creates timeliness risk. 

The artefact itself

The artefact itself looks like a typical watch or phone app. With a basic monochromatic shading. The hand of the clock still moves around the circle, however, the sunrise and sunset elements are emphasised with the dark to light shading. There are dots around the screen where the hand can point to, however, I think it is still confusing to read as you can’t tell exactly what time sunrise is. For example, 6 is normally where the 3 hands would be, they have changed around the structure of what area of the clock means what time.

To investigate their concept more I wanted to go back to how time telling came about, which I would assume is by the sun rise and sun set. This was further confirmed for me with a video A brief history of time (keeping). Stephan Hawking also has books on a briefer history of time, even briefer history of time. I did not have time to read his books, but this video seems to sum it up pretty well. For a lot of our lives in the early days, sun and seasons were all the time keeping we ever needed, however with the development of civilisation people needed schedules. 

Egyptians made clocks using shadows and split the day into 12 hours depending on where the shadow lay, this can be referred to a sundial. This concept is increasingly similar to how this watch proposes to operate, using the “shadows” and visual representation of time. I can't help to think, is this not just going backwards? Or maybe that's the point? It’s not exactly a wildly new concept, but maybe it's new in regards to how we live now, and new in the way it reinterprets the past. For nighttime they would 12 of their favourite constellations rise. 12 because Egyptians preferred duodecimal numbers to match lunar or funny enough the number of joints we have on each hand. It took over 3000 years of “clock” making to get to where we are today with our digital and analog clocks.

This Artefact is taking on this idea that we could re connect with the natural light cycles again, removing a minute to minute living. Reading the article again I also understand that they are not trying to change the main form of time telling, more so showing an alternative to living with time. Their purpose is to draw us back to our roots of living. Though I can understand that this would be appealing either aesthetically, or used as a form of a relaxed way to tell time, I do not think it would be practicle as the only source of Time telling and not everyone can afford to be on “island time” sort of sounds like it was made by someone who was always late.
