So you mentioned the Amazing Spider-man movies, what are your thoughts on them? For me; I was pleasantly surprised by 1 AND 2. Like 2 is bad, real bad, but the jokes were legit, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are just...an amazing on screen couple and until the transformation Harry is a really fun villain....just sucks that most of the movie is exposition about peoples relationships to one another or experiments done mostly off screen.

TASM1 is perfectly serviceable as a standalone project and was definitely not the worst jumping off point, but it struggles to really properly understand Spider-Man/Peter as a personality. Peter absolutely doesn't have to be a goody two-shoes loser, all of the best adaptations of Peter imo can have some serious attitude and grit to their persona, but TASM1 kinda over-corrects on the Tobey Maguire "shy nerd" angle by making Spidey a bit too much of a dick. I remember the movie getting a lot of praise for finally making Spider-Man funny and quippy, praise I similarly gave at the time, but it really... doesn't do that nearly as much as ppl gave it credit for??? There's like ONE scene where Spider-Man is kinda jokey with someone he suspects to be Ben's killer, but that scene kinda stinks because he's not quipping as much as he's like actively cruel lmao. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone had great chemistry though and you can tell Marc Webb knew his stuff when it came to directing that kind of romantic tension, seeing as how his previous project was 500 Days of Summer. All-in-all, it's a Fine movie but it's not a fantastic adaptation of the things I personally like about Spider-Man.

TASM2 is so much more intriguing to me to watch and to talk about. It's genuinely baffling how that movie ended up like it did, but in a way that almost anyone could have predicted. That movie STINKS. It's really really bad. But it also has kind of the opposite problem to TASM1 in that... TASM1 is a good movie that doesn't properly showcase the character of Spider-Man, whereas TASM2 is a garbage movie that features some of the best live action Spider-Man scenes/setpieces we had seen and would ever see to this day. It's sincerely tragic how many great INDIVIDUAL MOMENTS are in that movie, and how loosely connected they are by some monumentally stupid studio meddling. That movie has everything going in its favor with Andrew Garfield in the lead, the best live action Spider-Man suit to this day, the most thrilling and well rendered swinging sequences put to film, and the occasional glimpse of a true Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man that is down on the ground connecting with and watching over not just the city itself but the people within it. There's a montage in the middle of the movie that features Spider-Man on his daily patrol and he comes across as just so PRESENT and on the same level as the people he protects, meanwhile in the audio track you hear newscasters and interviews fiercely debating whether or not what he does is actually worthwhile. And that shit HITS. But unfortunately that kind of stuff is still too rare and it far overshadowed by Sony desperately trying to make a Spidey Cinematic Universe without earning it. Ultimately they had all of the pieces to make a truly definitive adaptation of Spidey that I feel like almost anyone could get behind, but they just... couldn't. Even Spider-Man PS4, commonly lauded as one of the most definitive Spidey stories of all time, uses SO MUCH of the same DNA of the Amazing Spider-Man films, but the difference is that it had the space to be only exactly what it needed to be. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyway I could talk more about this for sure but I'm looking at the length of this write-up and wincing already LOL.

the symbol came from the same place - the irons that bound the signless hand, but how it came to be is a pretty different story.

im trying to think bout it from the classpect angle - like how in canon the signless was post scratch kankri, so his abilities as a seer of blood allowed him to get glimpses from his pre scratch life, which inspired him to try and change things for the better. but in the au, its karkat who's in the role of the signless, and he aint no seer, hes a knight, he protects with his aspect and protects his aspect. i think the blood powers would carry some memories as well, maybe not so clear like how it was for kankri, but karkat would get the vague feeling of this is wrong.

i think hed see what feferi as empress was trying to do, and would be like "wait a fucking minute she just tries to treat lower classes like some kind of animals that have to be under care of highbloods" and hed be PISSED bc hed rather die than have some highblood asshole coddle him his whole life just bc of his blood mutation.

so hed be like "actually fuck you and fuck the monarchy" and hed start preaching bout the better world where all the blood castes have a say in how their society works (like how it was on tb!beforus) and karkats really good at getting people to follow him. so thats how the movement against the empress would start, and when the news about the revolution would reach feferi she would be pissed then, bc she wants a better life for them and this is how theyre repaying her, by wanting to overthrow her?? and it spirals from here into karkats execution and feferi becoming more and more paranoid

as for if kankri knows how things went, well he does! he gets visions of his past and future selves through dreams, some are nice, but most of the time theyre terryfying (so he just,, stops sleeping). its a mix between his time on beforus and how society was like there, some of karkats memories as the signless get into it too as they're kinda bound by blood ie. the ancestry stuff, and also he gets some visions of the post-game on earth c! those are his favourite. im thinking hard bout everyones aspects, i also liked the idea of kankri being able to "sense" past and future relationships between ppl (for example he can vaguely tell when ppl have history between them and if its positive or not, or he just gets one look at roxy and porrim and goes "yeah theyre gonna be insufferably in love"), its all a work in progress tho!

Why ppl dislike Raphael this much?

It was a very loud minority, that's important to keep in mind. I counted how many people I blocked yesterday. It was around 30 or 40. - A very small number compared to all the people enthusiastically telling Larian to add a kiss on that weird tweet about him being a devil and an even more insignificant number compared to 542 signatures for our petition. We gained around a hundred more in one night only because the antis shared the petition so enthusiastically and made people see it who agree with us and not them. 😂 Looking at it all, I think Raphael is a very, very beloved character actually. Those antis don't truly hate him, they have the completely ridiculous idea that asking for more content with a character is "harassing the devs" in some way. A wild thought, since the devs will see that (very politely phrased) letter around in the social medias once, maybe twice, and are perfectly capable of decision-making and choosing if any of it fits their plans or not. Other antis think that Larian even considering more Raphael content would take away resources from their beloved faves. - What isn't only hypocritical but makes no sense at all, since it's not mutually exclusive to work on more content for character A and character B. Raphael's story arc (as much as I love our devil) in the game itself is weak. And needs as much polishing as many other things. And the third group of antis I saw, well, they didn't truly read the letter and apparently only saw one point with the idea of Raphael being in camp for a while. What is, yes, the most unlikely of the ideas, but also just one among so, so many others that would be much easier to implement. That he stays in camp only works if they'd write him a strong reason to do so. I did not think it was necessary to mention that but apparently, I should have. They think our suggestions are against his character and would take from it. (Please consider that many cishet men just don't like the idea of another male romance and that's all they need to be mad.) I don't agree that our suggestions are against his character at all. He already flirts with the MC, we just want to flirt back. The option to kiss him would go well with his plans actually, if he notices Tav's/Durge's interest is another tool to get them to take his deal. Romance-specific camp scenes with him would be more work and are not a must-have in the main game but how those camp scenes would look like - manipulative, cruel even, or a little more fond (he shows all those sides with us during the game) - would be up to Larian if they'd decide to make them. In any case: How much affection Raphael would or wouldn't feel for the MC and how much of it would only be a method to get what he wants would be free for interpretation (as it is right now already too). Visiting the HoH when not betraying him and talking there peacefully with him should be in the game already, actually. Exactly like the option to spare him after the fight with him should we so decide and his help during the last battle. That's not a weird or outgoing request, that's just things that should be possible actions/developments and belong in the game, in my opinion. Long message short: I don't understand the hassle at all. But it's twitter after all and, it seems to me that most of its users are only happy if they can pointlessly yell about something and hunt shadows. I, for my part, block them and continue to have fun with the content and characters I enjoy and also continue to hope Larian read the letter and considers the points in there they find fitting.

okay like listen i know a lot of people have been talking abt this specific aspect of 3x3 already but. im just having a bit of a moment w the amount of lgbt ppl who saw trent's expression at the end there, and like. Knew.

like to be clear i am aware that at this point trent being gay is, at best, subtext + fanon. its incredibly beloved subtext, but its entirely possible that it could get blown out of the water in the coming episodes. but within the reading of trent being a gay man, seeing colin in that terrifying moment of exposure + vulnerability... that look says So much. its fear, its worry, its an instinctive protective response. its helplessness, its shame from feeling powerlessness, its the grim certainty that comes from knowing just how much is at stake.

bc the thing that i personally keep coming back to is like. everyone on the team is colin's friend - his family, even, according to the themes of the show. the show is literally about the team + staff working together to break down their toxic/unhealthy behaviours and build up a culture of trust + respect. that's why i think it's so significant that while isaac is the one to use the word gay pejoratively, he's also the one checking in on colin when he gets moved to the bench. he's arguably colin's closest friend at the club! and that's not enough. the fact that the richmond club is made up of demonstrably good and well-intentioned people isn't enough.

don't get me wrong, its fucking terrifying + awful being closeted around ppl who are ACTIVELY bigoted and cruel and who u KNOW would be nothing less than awful to if u were out. but the uncertainty of being around people you love, and not knowing what would happen if you told them? of never truly being sure of your place in the dynamic, since there's always that risk hanging over your head? its exhausting, and terrifying.

because what if they aren't accepting? even avoiding the worst case scenario where his bosses (the coaches, higgins, rebecca - hell, even keely) don't outright cut his career short, he's obviously extremely aware of how being on the outs with the team could lead to his life being made miserable. he was harassing nate himself! and, again, putting aside the (very real! he's a football player! he spends half of his time in a locker room!!!) threat of physical violence, we JUST saw how quickly a member of the team can be shunned + labelled as an outsider (and in the context of this arc, i rlly don't think its a coincedence that trent, specifically, was the one to experience that treatment). and that's without even getting STARTED on the absolute nightmare britain's press + papparazi would be if they put a target on his back (the show has spared no gory detail for their treatment of rebecca + ted, after all).

this is the type of weight colin's been carrying around for the past three seasons. and trent, in that split second before he looked away and continued walking, must've felt it all right along with him. colin works for the fucking premier league in fucking britain. it's harder to think of a workplace LESS hospitable to anything other than the most cishetero, toxic, hyper conformist displays of masculinity.

and that's what fucking GETS me abt the reading where trent is gay! because in the exact same moment where trent would be feeling such a sudden sense of connection + solidarity w colin (you are not alone!!! im here too! i see you! i know you!), there comes the crushing weight of wanting to protect him, and not knowing if you can. trent may be a notoriously incisive + unflinching reporter, but w/ all of his power + armour stripped away now that he's no longer with the independent, it's damningly obvious that trent doesn't have anything close to real power at richmond. if they wanted to make colin's life hell, what could he really do to stop them? again: they're fucking footballers. he's only even allowed at the club on ted's word, a word which could presumably be revoked at any time.

i just. the fear. the guilt. the shame. and above all, the desperate, heart aching need to keep another member of the community safe, even with the odds so blatantly stacked against you both.

and like. idk. to me that is the point of this scene. i think whether you've been in trent's position, or colin's, or neither, the vast majority of us went through a very similar emotional journey when we saw colin exposed like that. love -> fear -> protectiveness. and its an urge so strong, ppl are (lightheartedly, for the most part) threatening the Literal Writers of the show! like, the fact that rn there are SO many people out there tweeting + liveblogging and threatening trent, threatening isaac, threatening the WRITERS - threatening literally anyone and everyone over the CHANCE that any of them will hurt colin/out him/expose him to homophobia in any way? like, yes, colin isn't real. but i'd like to hope that that solidarity is.

and just to be clear, ted lasso is ultimately a comedy show. while it has never shied away from frankly portraying dark subject matter, i don't think this story will have an unhappy ending. but if this arc comes with any takeaway at all, i just really fucking hope that its about how that solidarity is what we all need to embrace + run towards, rather than try and stifle. and that colin is fully + unconditionally supported by his community, whoever that may be.

harsh winds singing a desperate chorus as it whirled around you, it claimed all the land in white. bounding everyone to their homes, unlucky for you, you were caught out in the storm. in other circumstances, this sight would have been beautiful to you as all of snezhnaya was, if only you weren't walking in the middle of it. you'd say you were happy when a small wooden hut appeared, it didn't look warm from the outside but it was shelter, except you had to go in with your boss.

scaramouche slammed the wooden door to the hut, blocking most of the blundering storm outside. the cabin was rotten down, boards coroading away, who ever lived here hadn't been around in probabaly years. it was stopping most of the wind, but the freezing tempature was still seeping in. he grimmaced at the situation, he'd been seperated from the rest of the fatui agents while out carrying a mission for the tsaritsa, simply on their way to catch debt from clients. this was only a minor setback, but a damn awful one. who knows how long he'd be stuck here. especially stuck with you.

you were in a corner of the house, curled into yourself to retain warmth. your thick black coat was keeping some sort of coziness but you were only human and some cloth could only do so much. damn your immune system, you'd only been curled up in here for a couple of minutes and were already sneezing uncontrollably, nose tingling and your skin in a bitter pain because of the frost. "look at you cowering away." your boss crossed his arms, glaring down at you. "we're stuck in this snow storm because of you giving us the wrong direactions. who even allowed you to join the fatui? you're obviously unfit to serve the tsarista." you who fed at his frigid words. "i bet it was that bobbleheaded childe, huh? pathetic." you knew never to show weakness infront of him, the balladeer was known to be so cruel to those who showed fear. yet in this snow storm, you couldn't care to even respond to him or say sorry about your incompetence. you swore if you stayed like this, you'd freeze over into a popsicle.

"…i'm so damn cold." you mumbled. scara pondered you with a scouring look. "oh, you're cold? well you're in snezhnaya its going to be a little chilly" his stupid sarcasm was not what you needed. you hands sting through your gloves, throat itchy and eyes watering. you tried to fight back the tears, you could not cry in front of him no matter how sick and cold you were. his eyes widened watching you shudder in the corner. he shuffled around a bit, looking to you and fro, cheeks a little flush. he hadn't expect you to seriously cry. he sighed, watching his breath swirl the air then trugded over to you.

with his hand nearing your face, you flinched at it thinking he was going to reprimand you for being so weak. yet he simply was pressing the back of his hand to your forehead, you were icy to the touch, eyes puffy and red. a tear rolled down your cheek as you sniffled, he took his thumb and wiped it away with a pout on his lip. "don't cry..." he mumbled. you weren't really sad just your body reacting to the uncomfortable reality you were in. "let me see your hand…" you lifted you arm to him and he pulled one of your gloves off, revealing your discolored fingers, a sign of hyperthermia.

the balladeer was no mother goose, he had no nurturing bone in his body. if he wanted to, he'd leave you here to freeze and would carry out the rest of his mission without batting an eye. instead, he gloved your hand again and held them between his. it wouldn't do him any good to let you die, he supposed. he couldn't warm you up much himself considering his...condition, he knew you were going to catch an even worse cold if he didn't do anything. so, he did the unthinkable. he sat against the wall, pulling you towards him by the waist, you were between his legs, and he curled you into his chest. it wasn't a lot of warmth, but it was enough. it was reassuring that you would be okay, you're allergies were getting to you but atleast you weren't alone in this storm.

in other circumstances, being coddled in your boss' arms would make you vomit at the thought but he was suprsingly cozy. "…tell anyone about this and i'll let you freeze in the lake." scaramouche pulled you tighter to his chest trying to get you warmer. "i'm only doing this because if you die i wont hear the end of it." "…of course, balladeer." you held back a little giggle. "i wouldn't dream of it"

maybe the balladeer was more than he seemed. maybe he cared underneath his empty heartless shell. don't tell anyone though, what happens at the hut, stays at the hut.

Yknow what gets me about ep 5? The traps and how they function in it. Like the traps b4 this aren't as deadly. Hell I'd argue they weren't even meant to kill in ep 4 - imo bc Mr Peterson knew they were looking and made it so they wouldn't anymore by scaring them! He literally turns to look at them while he's in his front yard and the key for the lock is in plain view. The traps are essentially part of a cubby set trap for Nicky, luring him into a set entrance and blocking off all exits he's learned of beforehand so the snare snaps this time. Bc he believed if he did that they'd be too scared to attempt anything... and if I wasn't for Trinity he'd be right!

Anyway, the ones in ep 5? Let's go over the traps actually: a swinging axe trap who's axe is meant to hit someone coming from the direction of the basement, a delayed pickaxe trap near the basement door that barely misses Enzo, a delayed net trap on the basement door meant to capture someone leaving, a delayed electric shock trap on the door with the key to the basement (seen twice, mr Peterson even checks his rubber gloves b4 touching it due to knowing his was gonna still b touching it after its timer goes off), bell strings near the entrance hallway, and finally a chainsaw trap activated by the creaky floorboard the kids kept stepping on.

That's 3 out of 6 that could prove deadly for a healthy kid, 4 outta 6 for Nicky due to his stay in the basement as stress and starvation can cause heart issues which can be exacerbated by electrical shocks, 1 meant alert, 1 to capture... and 3 built with delayed timers. Perfect for someone like captured Nicky whose movements often stutter to a stop, who's so slow most of the time that the others have to pull him along and even when originally leading them to the washroom exit somehow ended up behind everyone.

The traps were no longer built to keep ppl out, he built them with the express purpose of keeping Nicky in and that's so terrifying, especially bc no one even gives his house a second thought despite the sounds coming from it... because the neighbors had taught themselves to ignore it and Nicky's 'lies.' In his mind? I'd guess he thought as long as Nicky didn't get out he didn't need to worry about ppl entering his basement and taking Aaron away.

Tbh? I think that was also the reason he never passed the property line. Ppl already thought Nicky was a delinquent, a liar messing with a poor old man! As long as he only chased him to the property line, they'd see him as a man just trying to keep this cruel kid from messing with him. It's only after Aaron escapes that he drops the facade he showed in ep 5 and gets caught.

This Mr. Peterson is a much more terrifying threat, imo and I find it fascinating.

The jump in intensity in between pre Nicky's capture, and post is- terrifying. And then not to mention how much worse it is post the rest of the groups capture. I mean for God's sake, Enzo also wears rubber gloves SPECIFICALLY because he works with electronics and stuff that might get unsafe and the voltage Mr. Peterson has on that locked door is enough to shock him not only to a large degree in general, but so it lingers on him several seconds after the fact. Not to mention the pit of blades that seems to be almost as long as Maritza is tall and the mannequins who come out after the fact, seemingly to push someone who made it across back into the pit. That's like- seriously seriously messed up.

Something else I feel is kind of weird is just how much worse the state of the house gets post-capture. Sure when Nicky and Trinity break into his house it's not the cleanest, but even when we see Enzo going through the house and trying to avoid getting captured it's still not nearly to the level of DISGUSTING as in episode 6 and that's DAY BEFORE

How did it get so bug-infected and awful mere hours after Enzo broke in? What the hell was in the bathtub?! Even Theo seemed disgusted by it.

And also, something that has been bugging me personally,

When does the start of episode one take place?!

This might seem like a dumb question. "It takes place right before we cut to Trinity. It's the escape attempt where he's climbing out of the window!" But like- I don't think that's possible.

The window mechanism we see Peterson use here is disgustingly advanced. Like way more than even just the bars we see in episode 6. If he had these to keep Nicky stuck in episode 1, why not use them elsewhere?

Furthermore,

For the loud, "I'm about to die" type scream he screams before the transition, he seems, really calm climbing out of the chimney. Not to claim my dumb expression analysis was for nothing but with how naturally flinchy and panicky Nicky is when he could still be in danger (followed by the science teacher or still on Theo's property), I doubt he'd be even close to this relaxed.

For this to be the case Nicky would have had to

A. Get past Mr. Peterson, dodging between his legs or something without getting grabbed, something he's not good at when cornered as we see in episode 4 because he tends to freeze up when suddenly surprised or startled (we also see this later in one when Trinity has to pull him away from the bricked door because he's so shocked)

B. Run back downstairs

C. Climb up and out of the chimney

And again, if Theo has fully controlled, heavily locking windows available, WHY WOULDN'T HE USE THEM EVERYWHERE?

This also doesn't make sense because the blue door Nicky opens is the same one with that window. If he got stuck in there and barely escaped that morning, WHY WOULD HE TRY TO GO IN THAT ROOM AGAIN????

It just doesn't make sense. But it can't take place post-capture because then that room is shown to be sealed off and Nicky's eyes are still green. The one thing I've kept coming back to as a possibility for it is that it's a nightmare of Nicky's either before that day or while he's in the basement. This is because in the game it's shown Nicky is prone to nightmares even over less scary situations like grocery stores and- public school (Okay that one might be scarier than Theo). So him being scared of getting captured or of Theo making his house so advanced that he couldn't get away makes sense.

Anyway back on track from- Jack's side tangent (tm)

Uh I feel like his specificness of only REALLY caring about catching Nicky is for several reasons. Obviously because he's the most persistent in his actions, but also because no one seems to care if Nicky isn't there. I bring it up often, but there is not one missing person's poster for Nicky, nor do his friends even really believe he was kidnapped. ENZO IS THERE AFTER IT HAPPENS AND EVEN HE DOESN'T VOUCH FOR TRINITY. It's passed off as just "Yeah he runs away all the time who cares" which isn't normal. For God's sake his family is so absent I was running with an "Orphan Nicky" theory. (I'm still not completely sure his mom is infact alive. The wiki says she is but I don't believe the wiki after it called the Principle a friend of Nicky's). He is- inconsequential to Ravenbrooks. Theo would've been set if Trinity wasn't wasn't there.

But yeah Mr. Peterson's actions are- scary, scary and unnatural. I was watching Th3Badd3st's hello neighbor 2 playthrough (featuring Pastra) and they were theorizing that maybe something is having some sort of control over the antagonists. However they both also admitted to not knowing much lore besides the series to go off of. But I guess it's something to think about with how massive of a turn to violence Theodore takes.

I've compared it to "I'm not a feminist, I'm an egalitarian" plenty of times before but all lives matter is a great analogy too. a lot of poc have pointed out that transandrophobia truthers are mostly white, and I've definitely seen that too. it makes sense then why they all view oppression as strictly interpersonal, rather than being anything systemic.

something I've also noticed is that they use the fact that black men are portrayed as more dangerous and are thus subjected to more violence as proof that antimasculism is real. now, I'm white, and I'm fully aware that because of that I don't have the nuance to describe the causes of this phenomenon in detail, but it just seems so callous and cruel to use the violence black men face as a tool to strengthen their ideology. and in doing so, they explicitly ignore the fact that black women (and black trans women especially) are ALSO subjected to violence due to being portrayed as a threat to white cis women and white children. it's just another way that transandrophobia truthers demonstrate the biologically essentialist "afab = vulnerable, amab = dangerous" attitude that they've all internalized, which is wrong for many reasons, one of which being that afab people are only portrayed as vulnerable if they're white.

seeing how ppl always lump bakugo and endeaver together like theyre the same is always wild to me. like i feel like a lot of fandoms hatred of bakugo comes down to the fact that they see their childhood bullies in him (which they arent wrong for, he IS a bully at the start of the series) but because theyre young and that wound is so close, their hatred of him is more visceral and they feel like he's much worse than he really is in the grand scheme of life and are less willing to let him come back from that because they want to see him punished the way they want their bullies to have been punished. whereas i think most adult fans (especially anyone 21+) recognize that endeaver is actually the more unforgivable and worse evil as a grown adult man who beats his wife and children and has been this way for his entire adult life and can therefore give bakugo the grace and room to grow that he deserves because we can recognize that those two things are not the same. bakugo is a child and deserves the chance to learn and grow from his mistakes. whereas endeaver is pushing 50 and has long since ignored and passed over every one of those chances for growth and to do the right thing to double down on being a piece of shit like yes the way bakugou treated izuku was awful and cruel, but a 13yr old kid throwing out a "kill yourself" because he doesnt really understand the consiquences of his actions yet is not the same as an adult man buying his wife and forcing her to pump out heirs while he beats her for over 20 years and abuses his children so badly it drives one of them to essentially kill himself. but when ur 18 or 19, that bullying is probably gonna hit closer to home and elicit more of a negative reaction as opposed to the realities of endeavors abuse

which i think is interesting in terms of analyzing fandoms reactions to characters and why people feel the way they do and understandable to an extent. but its also insane to me to see ppl so often angrier at a misguided child who's navigating his emotions poorly than they are at a middle aged man who used his systematic privlege to ruin the lives of his entire family without consiquence for literal decades
