Okay, apparently shutting the fuck up was never an option but the way no one likes to look at the marina situation and go "wow what the fuck is wrong with portia"? Crazy.
Like she immediately didn't like her, not because of anything she'd done, but because she took attention from her daughters no matter how bright she dressed them.
It didn’t matter that the main reason is that, honestly all 3 of her daughters are painfully awkward, and in ones case literally 17. It didn’t matter that Marina was only there at her fathers instance, or that theoretically through having someone thats clearly popular in her home she could have used it as a jump off mark to match her daughters, she was seen as her big hurdle to marrying them off. Marinas immediately othered, to the point that when shes being dressed the maids helping put on her shoes is enough to piss Portia off. She immediately puts Marina in the same ring as her daughters, fight for my attention and maybe maybe it'll be positive. But Marina doesn't do that because she doesn't want to even be there.
And then they find out she's pregnant and shes othered even more. She immediately tries to send her back, and when she's not allowed to do that shes locked away and the other girls aren't even allowed to talk to her. She literally tries to freeze her out, like Marina has any say in being there in the first place, before lying to her about her being abandoned by George.
She makes no attempt to find out if George has family, she doesn't care enough to try even though that would have been a way to get rid of her "problem". She tries to push Marina onto a man old enough to be her grandfather and slaps her across the fucking face when she tries to stand up for herself.
Theres no concern for her safety, for the babys safety, just getting her out of her house as fast as fucking possible, and I'm meant to be surprised that when Colin saves Marina from her elderly suitor she turns her attention to him?
Like the nicest guy, who everyone likes, who's attractive, who isn't multiple decades older than her and most importantly not going to literally assault her? Yeah not a big shocker. Should she have lied to him? No, but she wouldn't have had to or felt the need to if she wasn't in the most hostile fucking house. Even Penelope, who she likes, why does everyone forget that she fucking likes Penelope and viewed her as a friend, becomes aggressive towards her. Shes cornered, shes scared, and all of this could have been avoided if Portia was a slightly better person and said "hey soilder boys not written back, you're gonna have this kid, does he have any family?" instead of setting this entire mess in motion.

The most moderate, nuanced and productive people I have discussed the Israel-Hamas war with have been Jews, Israelis, and people with Palestinian family. Everyone directly affected by this just wants it to stop and to have peace and safety in the region in a way that minimises the casualty count.
The most extreme and performative and vile things I've been told are by people who have no connection to this and like to think they are experts because they have covered adjacent topics during learning, or read stuff online.
If all the randos in the west would just shut up for ten minutes and let those of us actually affected, with an understanding of the history of the land and the culture and the generational trauma experienced by Jews and Palestinians alike talk, we might actually have a chance to salvage this and stop it spiraling

BBS is a tragedy in many ways, but one of the things that gets me is that the catalyst, the one big thing that caused this mess to begin with, is so avoidable.
Like, the story starts primarily because Terra starts to fear himself (because of the darkness he has unwittingly 'used') and this causes a spiral of doubt and obsession. A spiral which he could've escaped from or maybe not even started if he just 1) had been taught the balance between light and dark properly (that darkness is more than just unquestionable evil, that light is more than unquestionable good, that they can and should co-exist in balance), and 2) had consistent socialization from more than the same 3 people.
Like. BBS is a cautionary tale about what happens when people aren't exposed to a wide enough variety of people and, therefore, end up naive and overly trusting because they never learned that people have ulterior motives. Terra is consistently manipulated and used by people literally everywhere he goes, because he can't see that they might not have the best intentions! He can't see the red flags because he doesn't know there are red flags to look for!
Xehanort knows this. It's why he targeted Terra to begin with: because he would be susceptable to his words. The main reason he couldn't use Aqua is because she was too confident in her own values, she didn't have the seed of doubt that Terra had. It's the only thing that prevents her from being used the same way he is, even though she is just as naive and trusting as he is.
Ven probably has it the worst socialization wise. Unlike Terra and Aqua who, presumably, has/had a family and life outside of the Land of Departure prior to beginning training there, Ven doesn't remember anything before then (not that he had much he'd be happy to remember anyway). And since he's the youngest and most 'fragile' one (due to being in recovery for most of his time here), he gets somewhat coddled and shielded by everyone else. Not to mention the way Eraqus completely forbid him from leaving and never intented for him to ever see worlds outside the Land of Departure. Sure, Terra and Aqua aren't typically supposed to leave either, but at least they'd be allowed in certain situations. Ven wouldn't.
Ven isn't allowed to interact with anyone outside of home. He's not allowed anything that involves the outer worlds. (He and Naminé are a bit alike in that sense. Though at least the people he's stuck with are nice to Ven and do genuinely care for him, unlike Naminé...)
BBS happens largely because Eraqus failed as both a teacher and a parental figure to all of them, but Terra most of all.

It's really interesting to me to see people view characters through a strict lens and not take in all the things surrounding a decision they make, only the decision itself.

I’ve been going around a bit and I feel like most people tend to demonize Diluc a bit for the whole fight that happened
Yes, what he did was pretty bad but he was in a terrible mental state along with Kaeya. I’m also not saying Kaeya wasn’t a victim in this and that his decision to tell the truth came from a whole lot of mental issues
Overall I feel like bad decisions made by both of them lead to a very sick and twisted ending from the Gods that was imprinted on them. And now as adults Diluc obviously deeply regrets what he did and with Kaeya their both miscommunicating and pressing the wrong buttons as they both believe they don’t deserve to be okay again

someone in the notes of that post commented on the "marvelification" of how western audiences can view wars and violence and talking with people about the Israel-Hamas conflict makes this ESPECIALLY obvious when people online are viewing this like they're watching a fucking sports team and not innocent civilians on both sides getting raped, assaulted, and murdered for something out of their control

You ever notice how the people who think it's their moral duty to hate John for what he did to Julian are the exact same people who would turn on you and call you toxic the moment you started showing symptoms of an abusive childhood? It's almost like extending no compassion to people whose childhood fucked them up isn't actually helpful to people who had a fucked up childhood

We always talk shit about Mamorus bad fashion and usually think his manga fashion style is very decent (besides the cow print anyway lol)
But listen the boy literally cant dress right he doesnt even wear a tuxedo right, theres 3 types for specific occassions with specific etiquette and our boy is wearing all 3 styles at once what a mess.
imagine newspaper articles and forums just clowning in his drip lmaoooooo
#im breaking his tuxedo mask design down and#he wears a white tie specifically that we can confirm but he doesnt have a tailcoat#in act 4 we see his fit entirely and yeah he wears a white tie blazer but it doesnt have a tailcoat#naoko just doesnt draw it at any point#and in act 6/7 when Usagi learns his identity#he wears suspenders and a cummerbund belt which is a BLACK TIE tuxedo style#which implies under all that white tie shit hes wearing black tie shit#according to the articles i read you don't really do that thats bad etiquette#so Mamorus dressed really nice for sure but the tuxedo police would clown him for sure#also the cape is lowkey corny my boy went to party city and got a cape#he also wears the tuxedo in the middle of day usagi points this out#idk if naoko knew this but usagi has a point you dint wear a white tie in the middle of the day#you can wear morning suits and black ties during the day tho#he also wears this red ribbon in crystal and manga but i never seen white ties wear the red ribbon#in the manga this red ribbon is what holds his brooch in crystal the brooch just sits on his shirt#black ties are formal for sure but a more lenient on color too#white ties its only black or a super dark blue#this is more a situation of bad anatomy but how tight the tuxedo look on him in Crystal all 3 styles implies a tight fit#which is ill fitted he cant wear it right lol#in the early chapters especially its a lot looser fit but idk if its bad or not but it def wasnt making his arms and legs twiggy lookin#mamoru chiba#tuxedo mask#nikki talks
