taylor swift song imagines masterlist
————————————————
You walked into your apartment in Jersey, the air tense as soon as your boyfriend of two years slammed the door.
"You were flirting with him."
You closed your eyes as you sighed deeply. Here we go...
"Ryan, I wasn't-."
"Don't lie to me. I saw what I saw."
You rolled your eyes at your boyfriends accusations. This was the second night in a row he's decided to pick a fight with you over your friendship with Jack. Pair that with the two other fights he's started this month, it's safe to say yours and Ryans relationship has been quite rocky recently.
"Ryan," you said, turning around to face him, "I don't know what you think you saw. I was not flirting with Jack."
"Yes you were, Y/n!" He snapped, the slight raise in his voice making you jump slightly. He never raised his voice at you, only when it came to Jack. Ryan has always been wary of yours and Jack's friendship. He refused to let you hang out with Jack by yourself, and he always had to know if Jack was going to be there whenever the two of you went out it with a group. It's safe to say that Ryan has never trusted Jack. He has no reason not to trust the middle Hughes brother, he just simply doesn't because of how close the two of you are. When you first started dating Ryan, he made you un-add Jack on both Snapchat and Instagram. You didn't think much of it at first, but it only got worse from there. Which brings you to tonight.
You and Ryan met up with some of your mutual friends at a local bar for a casual night of drinking and catching up. While you were there, Jack and his best friend Trevor, who was in town for a game against the Devils, showed up and joined your group. You hadn't seen neither Jack nor Trevor in weeks, wanting to respect your boyfriends wishes to keep your distance from your friends. The night was going well, everyone was having fun and knocking back as many drinks as they could handle. After about three shots of Malibu and a vodka cranberry, you were pretty tipsy and your judgement was clouded. You ended up spending the rest of the night talking to and catching up with Jack. You talked about the current hockey season and your new job. It felt so natural talking and laughing along with Jack. Maybe it had to do with your past relationship...
A small smile pulled at your lips as you thought about your interactions with Jack at the bar. Ok, maybe you were flirting with him. But Ryan didn't need to know that.
"What makes you think I was flirting with him?" You asked as you crossed your arms over your chest. Ryan rolled his eyes, giving you a look of annoyance.
"Oh I don't know," he said sarcastically, "maybe by the way you were touching him." You scoffed, "Way I was touching him?"
"Your hand never once left his thigh or bicep."
"I was just being nice!"
"Yeah because gripping his body is nice, Y/n!" He seethed, glaring at you with an incredulous look. You rolled your eyes once again, this time making sure he could see them.
"Oh don't start that shit with me, hon." Ryan said, voice rising as he shook his head at you. He moved closer to you, bringing his hand up to run through his blonde hair. However, he did it in such a way that made you think he was going to put his hands on you. You instantly flinched, backing away from your boyfriend as tears welled in your eyes. Ryan narrowed his eyes at you, confused at your sudden movements. His gaze softened as he realized why you backed away from him so suddenly.
"Y/n, baby," Ryan pleaded as he tried to reach out for you, "you know I'd never-."
"No," you said sternly as tears threatened to fall. You backed away from him even more, "I can't do this anymore. We're done, Ryan."
You made your way to the front door, ignoring your now ex-boyfriends pathetic pleas and apologies as you exited the apartment, and texted the person that started this fight in the first place.
~time skip~
Jack was sitting on his couch watching Shameless when his phone went off with a text from you. All it said was: "I'm coming over." He was getting ready to get a glass of water from the kitchen when he heard a knock at his front door. He set the glass on the counter, quickly making his way to the door. He didn't know what to expect when he opened the door, so he took a deep breath before reaching for the handle and opening it.
There you stood, standing in his doorway with red eyes and tear stained cheeks. Jacks heart dropped as he took in your distressed appearance.
"Oh sweetheart," he cooed softly, "what happened?"
"Ryan," you croaked, "Ryan happened."
Jack frowned and wrapped his arms around your body, bringing you into his apartment. Of course it was Ryan that had you feeling like this. Jack never did like him. He thought he was a douchebag with zero good intentions. Jack could treat you so much better than him...
Jack led you over to his couch, keeping an arm around your body as he sat you both down. As soon as you felt the soft white cushion beneath you, you burst into tears. Jack felt his heart break as the sounds of your harsh sobs filled his silent apartment. He adjusted his hold on you, wrapping both his arms around you and pulling you into a tight embrace. You wrapped your arms around Jack as sobs wracked your body.
"Shh," he shushed gently, stroking your back as he spoke, "It's OK. You're OK."
You let out another harsh sob as more tears poured down your cheeks and splashed onto Jack's red New Jersey Devils t-shirt. He continued to console you, murmuring sweet nothings as his hands continued to gently stroke your back. You hadn't told him what happened with Ryan, but based on how you were reacting, he knew it couldn't have been good.
After a few minutes, your sobs eventually died down to the occasional hiccup. Once you were calmed down enough, Jack decided to ask you about what happened with Ryan.
"Y/n," he said softly, "You don't have to tell me, but I think it might help. What happened tonight?"
You let out a shaky breath as you lifted your head up from Jack's chest. You sniffled and wiped the remaining tears off of your cheeks before looking up at your best friend with a pained look on your face. Jacks frown deepened as his eyes scanned over your features. It hurt his heart to see your beautiful face blotchy and wet with tears from your cruel boyfriend. You sniffled once again and sighed deeply as you tried to find the right words for Jack.
"We had a fight," you started, voice quiet, "a bad one. He got upset, raised his voice, accused me of flirting with you the whole night, you know the usual."
Jack couldn't help but chuckle at that. Ryan accusing you of flirting with him was the usual?
"What do you mean the usual?"
Jack's question made you tense up. Oops.
"Yeah you know," you laughed lightly, "he always thought I'd rather be with you than him." Jack raised his eyebrows at your statement, "Oh yeah?"
"Yeah..." you trailed off. Jack didn't reply, he just looked at you, noticing the color rising to your cheeks. You were growing flustered as your mind wandered. You totally forgot about Ryan, instead having thoughts you shouldn't be having about your best friend...
Jack broke the silence a few minutes later with a question you weren't expecting.
"Would you rather be with me?"
Your heart dropped to the pit of your stomach as your breath hitched in the back of your throat. You always did have feelings for Jack, but you never thought he felt the same way about you. After all, you ended your fling two years ago with each other because your friendship was "too important to lose."
"I..." you stammered. You were at a total loss for words. Jack's gaze softened as he reached out to gently cup your cheek. Before you knew it, the two of you were leaning in, eyes fluttering closed as your lips pressed against each others. The butterflies swarmed in your belly as your lips moved in a perfect slow and sensual rhythm with Jacks. You pulled away from Jack, letting your forehead rest against his as you looked into his blue eyes.
"I love you." You said quietly, your confession making Jacks face light up.
"I love you too, Y/n."
You smiled softly at him, leaning in for another kiss, one that was much deeper and full of even more passion. You knew exactly what this was going to lead to...
~time skip~
You bit your lip at the sight in front of you. Jack stood in front of you clad in black boxers. His thick thighs on display now that his sweatpants were off, and his broad chest, defined abdomen and muscular arms looked absolutely divine in the lighting of his bedroom.
"Like what you see sweetheart?"
Your cheeks grew red, the pet name making you feel your pulse in other areas of your body. Jack chuckled as he took a few steps closer to you. You laid back on the bed, propping yourself up on your elbows as he passionately kissed you. Jack gently pushed you down on the bed, his lips still attached to yours. You wrapped your arms around him, letting your manicured nails softly trail down his bare back. He pulled back from you, looking at you with his lust filled eyes. You eyed Jack as you hooked your index finger under the waistband of your thong, pulling the lace material down your legs. Jack glanced down, a smirk on his face as he saw your glistening folds.
"You're so wet and I haven't even touched you yet," he smugly stated.
You whined at his words, your hands reaching out to grasp his biceps. He leaned down and smashed his lips against yours, both of your mouths moving in sync. He pulled away, his blue eyes soft but full of so much lust.
"I want to touch you Y/n."
"Please..." you whined.
As soon as you gave him permission, Jack brought his hand down to your right thigh, stroking the soft skin of your inner thigh. Your eyes fluttered shut at the feeling of his hands on your skin. His fingers hovered over your clit, making you squirm with anticipation. He placed one finger into your entrance as he circled your sensitive clit. You gasped at the feeling, beginning to buck your hips beneath his touch. He pushed your hips down with his other hand, pressing onto your lower belly to hold you still.
"You gotta stay still for me."
You just nodded, arching your back slightly as Jack started to pump his fingers in and out, rhythmically.
"Hmph-Jack." you moaned out. You were completely taken over by a feeling of bliss, feeling yourself grow closer and closer to your orgasm.
He smirked at you as you grabbed onto his forearm, digging your nails into his skin as his muscles flexed with each swift movement of his fingers.
"Jack," you breathed out, "I'm so close-uh."
He thrusted his fingers into you one more time before pulling them out which caused you to whine. Jack eyed you carefully as he brought his fingers up to his mouth, sucking your juices off of them. He slowly removed his index finger from his mouth with a pop. You bit your lip as you watched him clean his fingers off. Only Jack could make eating cum look sexy. Jack chuckled at your reaction as he disappeared into his bathroom. He came back out with a wet wash cloth to clean you off with and one of his t-shirts for you to wear. Jack pressed the warm cloth to your thighs and core, wiping up the remnants of your orgasm. After cleaning you up, he slipped the t-shirt on over your head. The sight of you in his shirt made Jack's heart swell with love. He didn't want to look at anything else now that he saw you in his clothes.
Jack climbed into bed next to you, your bodies immediately turning into each others. All of you, all of him, intertwined. It just felt right for both you and Jack to be wrapped up in the others embrace. You hummed contently as you laid your head against Jacks chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
"You know," you spoke up softly, making Jack hum in response.
"Ryan used to make me believe love was black and white," you craned your neck up to look Jack in the eyes. You placed a soft kiss to his lips, a wide grin appearing on both of your faces as you finished your thought.
"You made me realize it's golden."

can i please request a 🩵blues lagoon; "I'm not going to hurt you." with luke hughes please? :)
thank you for requesting!🫶🏽
14. "I'm not going to hurt you."
.
He was running.
He hadn’t stopped running.
He wasn’t sure if he had been running for minutes or hours. He wasn’t sure if the night was dragging out or if the forest canopy had blocked the daylight, if it was actually the next day altogether. He wasn’t sure where Quinn or Jack were, or if the others had made it to safety. He didn’t know anything except he couldn’t stop running.
Werewolves were an endangered species these days. They were hunted and chased and killed. They were the number one threat to whatever stupid myths the humans followed and believed. Most of the wolves Luke knew stayed in hiding, away from big cities or towns. Some hid in plain sight, living amongst the humans that were none the wiser.
And some lived a life mixed in between.
Some being Luke and his brothers and the makeshift pack they had formed over the years.
It was a risky lifestyle, one they had been pushing the line on for months. They had been safe, cautious, wary of. And all of it had come crumbling down in less than twenty-four hours and now, Luke was running for his life with no knowledge on whether his brothers were safe or if the others escaped or if he would even make it to the hideout alive.
Funny how life worked out.
He had lost count on how many hunters were chasing him. When he escaped the dungeon they had been locking him up in, it had been around the fifteen mark but he swore he lost a handful of them a few hours back. But he couldn’t stop to check. He couldn’t stop to rest.
He just had to keep running and running and running—
Luke let out a pained whimper when he felt a jab on his side. The momentum was enough to knock him off his feet, for his body to hit the ground and slide across the dirt as he tried to get ahold of his senses once again. His body shifted before he could stop himself, before he could even think about the consequences of his actions as the arrow in his side twisted around his transforming body.
“Luke?”
He blinked, letting out a shaky breath as he found you standing a few feet away, crossbow still lifted and pointed at him. But your face—he had never seen such a mix of emotions. Confusion. Betrayal. Shock. Maybe even something quite like concern.
“Hi,” he rasped out, letting out a heavy sigh as a twinge of pain rushed through his body.
“You’re—” And even though you cut yourself off, he could fill in the rest.
You’re a werewolf and you never told me. You’re a werewolf and you have been my friend for the last few months like nothing was wrong. You’re a werewolf and the exact creature my family hunt, have been hunting for decades. You’re a werewolf and I never knew.
“Yeah,” he murmured, something quite like bitter acceptance settling in his stomach. He didn’t want this to be the end. He didn’t want you to be the one to kill him. But you were a hunter and he was a werewolf with an arrow in his side and he knew his chances of escaping this were slim.
He knew his chances of ever seeing Jack and Quinn again were slim. He knew his chances of making it to the hideout and seeing the rest of the pack were slim. He knew his chances of making it out alive were slim.
“Did you catch one?”
Luke stiffened as the familiar voice of your father—the same ruthless hunter that almost nabbed Nico a few months ago—sounded from somewhere in the forest. His heart thumped in his chest, the urge to close his eyes and try to cling onto some happy memories before his demise growing stronger. He waited for you to—
“No!” You yelled back, your eyes glued on Luke as he stared back with wide eyes. “False alarm. It was just a deer. I think he headed north!”
Luke’s lips parted in surprise as you began moving closer, your words still ringing in his ears as you crouched beside him and reached your hands out. Instinctively, he tried to scamper back. The pain pulsed through his body but he bit back the cry he wanted to let out.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” you assured the boy, your hands stretched out to show you meant no harm. “I want to help.”
Luke shot you a suspicious look. “You expect me to believe you?”
“No,” you replied honestly. “But I’m hoping my actions will speak louder than my words. Now, let me get that arrow out of you so we can hide before my father finds you.”

The sun, seeping through the gaps in the blinds, nudges you awake on what should be a splendid day at the lake house. That is, it would be splendid if not for the persistent struggle to breathe through your nose and the annoyance of itchy eyes and a scratchy throat. Despite the season being in its early throes, your allergies have already unapologetically launched an assault on your well-being.
Gazing to your left, Jack is sprawled on his back, emitting soft snores that the harsh sunlight fails to disturb. Extending your arm to the bedside table, you open the drawer in a quest for your Claritin. Your fingers finally clasp it, but a frown creases your brow as you shake the empty box. Fantastic, just what you needed. Audibly groaning, you hoist yourself out of bed, your bare feet padding against the cool embrace of the hardwood floor. Silence envelops the house, and as you descend the stairs, an empty kitchen and living room confirm that you're the first one to rise.
Navigating to the kitchen, your hands instinctively reach for the cupboards in a quest for the Claritin or Zyrtec you're certain must be lying around. Alas, your search yields nothing but frustration, prompting a string of curse words to escape your lips. "Fucking allergies..." Closing the last cupboard, you straighten up, your heart nearly leaping out of your chest at the sight of the tall boy standing before you. Clutching your chest, you exhale heavy breaths to steady yourself.
"You scared the shit out of me!" Your exclamation earns a laugh from Trevor, who shakes his head as he takes a seat on one of the barstools.
"Not surprising you didn't hear me with all that noise you were making."
You rub at your eyes, desperate to rid the persistent itchiness, and lean against the counter, confusion etched on your features. "I wasn't even loud, dumbfuck!"
He grins at your response, savoring the ease with which he can rile you up, even this early in the morning. Your boyfriend enters the kitchen, nonchalantly slapping Trevor on the shoulder before playfully flicking your cheek, stopping to ruffle your already messy bed head. "Too early, knock it off," he rasps, a touch of amusement present in his tone.
He ambles to the other side of the kitchen, reaching up to the far back of the small cabinet above the stove. Your eyes widen as you spot a familiar blue and white box in his palm. Hastily crossing over to him, you snatch the box from his grasp with both hands. "I love you, I love you so much." He grins at your words, and leans down for a kiss, but precisely at that moment, your head throws forward with a wet sneeze, causing him to step backward, his fingers reaching up to feel your snotty residue against his cheek in disbelief.
Your palm slaps against your lips, your mouth falling agape as you register what just happened. Trevor, still seated at the counter, bursts into a bellyaching laugh that reverberates through the entire house.
"Gross!" Jack cringes, just as you profusely apologize, "I am so sorry!"

ENCHANTED — JAMIE DRYSDALE
jamie drysdale x hughes!reader
part of the Speak Now Fic List
summary: in which y/n meets Jamie on a boring night and becomes completely enchanted with him
notes: this is my first time ever writing for Jamie, so bear with me! (4k words, precisely.)
Tumblr media
this wasn’t where i wanted to spend my night.
after two years in Anaheim, i thought i had successfully avoided my brother’s best friend dragging me to parties or nights out.
i always had an excuse handy.
“sorry Trevor, i have a big test. i gotta study.”
“i have major cramps, sorry Trev.”
“i have study group, sorry!”
“sorry Trevor, i have a shift at the campus store!”
that last one came back to bite me in the ass after Trevor had mentioned it to Jack and my loving brother outed me on the fact that i don’t even have a job.
that’s what got me here. finally conned into being Trevor’s friendly plus-one to John Gibson’s end-of-the-season party. despite the fact that i was telling the truth this time when i said i had to study for finals.
Trevor had pulled some pouty puppy face over facetime, reminded me that i lied to him last time, and even pulled out the “i just wanna hang out with you, mini Hughes. i never get to see you, even though we live in the same city. you may as well be as far away as Jack.”
and just like that, i was putty in his hands. i agreed to accompany, only on the agreement that he wouldn’t leave me alone when we got here. and he hasn’t, so far.
he stands next to me, an arm leant against my shoulder, as he chats with Troy Terry.
“this is y/n Hughes, my itty bitty best buddy!” his speech is slightly slurred, already significantly buzzed, but not quite drunk yet.
“you gotta stop calling me that.” i roll my eyes. “i’m not fourteen and 5’3 anymore.”
“but you’re still not my height,” he laughs, ruffling my hair. “so it stays.”
i send Troy a pleading glance and his head tips back in laughter.
“so, you’re Quinn, Jack, and Luke’s sister?” Troy asks.
“yeah, i’m between Jack and Luke.” i explain and he nods, making a comment about how hard it must be being the only girl.
“where’s Jamie, Trevor? thought he would’ve driven with you.” Troy questions, and i’m grateful for the change of subject.
i love my brothers, but they’re all anyone ever wants to talk about. i’m my own person, my life doesn’t revolve around them.
“nah, i picked this one up, so Jamie’s driving on his own. he should be here soon though.”
i zone out as the conversation shifts to their off-season plans, forcing a laugh whenever Trevor tells a horrendous joke, and faking a smile when he mentions that he’ll be coming to my brothers lake house.
but eventually i get bored, instead turning my head to look around the crowded house.
i recognize a few people from the Ducks games i’ve watched or attended. John Gibson, the goalie. Mason McTavish, the young center.
but then i see him.
dark hair and blue eyes contrast against pale skin. even from across the room, i can see the freckles that litter across his nose and cheekbones. his gaze shifts around the room, and when it settles on where i am, he seems to let out a relieved sigh, making his way over.
my body tenses, my posture becoming straighter, and as i push my shoulders back slightly, i accidentally knock Trevor’s arm off. but he doesn’t seem to notice, a large goofy smile breaking out across his face as he cheers.
“Jimbo! you made it!”
a blush rises to the gorgeous boy’s cheeks, huffing out an awkward chuckle. it’s beautiful. he’s beautiful.
“Jimmy, this is y/n. y/n, this is Jamie!” Trevor introduces us and realization settles over me.
this is Jamie? Trevor’s best friend and roommate in California?
he reminds me of a disney prince. his eyes meet mine, wonder shining amongst them.
“have we met? you seem kinda familiar.” his voice reminds me of daylight breaking amongst gray clouds. warmth and security flowing throughout my body.
but before i can respond, Trevor butts his way in again.
“i’m gonna go get another drink! i’ll be back.”
Trevor pushes his way between us, heading off toward the kitchen, and Jamie laughs again.
“so, how drunk is he?” Jamie questions, his head nodding towards where Trevor disappeared.
“well, about ten minutes ago, he was singing me the mighty ducks theme song.” i explain and Jamie nods in understanding.
“got it. so, he’s sober.” he remarks and i let out a giggle.
“yeah,” i drag out. “there really isn’t much of a difference between sober and drunk Trevor, is there?”
“not when he’s as wild drunk as he is sober.” Jamie jokes, and i hum in agreement.
“so, you’re the infamous Jamie Drysdale?” i raise an eyebrow, watching as his cheeks turn pink.
“oh god, he talks about me?” he laughs and i nod.
“you’ve been mentioned a few times.” i confirm. “all good things, of course.”
Jamie and i stand in that same spot almost all night, eventually moving to the couch when we realize that Trevor isn’t coming back.
“so, you’re a student at… Chapman?” he gathers.
“yeah, i’m about to end my junior year. one year online during the pandemic, and two years on campus here.” i explain and he nods his head in understanding, taking a sip of his soda.
“what’s your major?”
“broadcast journalism. my main focus is sports entertainment.” he nods again before his nose scrunches in confusion, his eyebrows pulling together.
“and you’ve known Trevor this whole time?” i hum out in agreement. “how have we never met until now?”
“okay, don’t judge me.” i preface, making him chuckle, but agree. “i’m not much of a party person. i prefer to stay in my dorm and watch movies. so, i always make up an excuse to get out of coming to parties with Trevor.”
his head tips back in laughter, causing a rush of heat to spread across my face, but at the sight of my blush, he shakes his head.
“wait, no! no! i’m not laughing at you, i swear! i’m laughing because i do the same thing.” his words are spoken through broken laughter, my teeth sinking into my bottom lip to hold back a smile.
“really? you’re his roommate!”
“that doesn’t mean i love partying!” he defends himself. “i’m more introverted. quieter than Z. a lot of people wonder why we’re friends, but, we balance each other out.”
he shrugs and i tilt my head, squinting my eyes.
“hm, yeah, i could see that.” i admit. “my best friend and i are the same way. she’s a lot like Trevor.”
as the words leave my mouth, my face drops; my eyes wide, my lips parted in horror.
“oh god, she’s like Trevor.” Jamie’s entire body folds in laughter, his face turning bright red as his hand lands on my knee, sending sparks up my leg.
he looks so carefree and happy, i can’t help but sneak a picture.
“so, neither of us like parties,” Jamie starts, once he’s finally calmed down from laughing at my horror. “and Trevor has left us, and i doubt he’s coming back.”
“definitely not. that boy has the attention span of a goldfish.” i joke and Jamie agrees.
“so why don’t we get out of here?” he asks. my lips part, blood rushing to my cheeks, but before i can speak, he cuts me off. “wait, not like that. that came out wrong! what i mean is, i could really go for some food. and maybe getting out of this crowded house.”
“oh- yeah.” i nod, sliding my phone in my pocket. “yeah, that sounds great.”
“great!” he rises from the couch, holding his hand out for me to take; and i do, slipping my hand into his larger, more calloused hold.
he pulls me up from the couch, his grip never faltering as we exit the house with an irish goodbye and head to his car.
he opens the passenger door, finally dropping my hand to allow me to slide in, but i catch his hand flex in my peripheral vision and despite my now cold hand, my heart races in my chest. did i just get my own pride and prejudice moment?
“do you have any special requests on where to eat?” he questions as he starts the car.
“um, no.” i shrug. “anywhere with chicken tenders is fine with me.”
he laughs. “then i know just the place.”
the ride is made in a comfortable silence after that. nothing but the sound of country music flowing through the radio.
Jamie pulls into a diner parking lot, mostly empty due to the late timing, and we head inside, taking a seat in a booth towards the middle of the establishment.
“your chicken tenders, await.” he grins, pointing out the item on the laminated menu, slightly sticky with syrup.
“hey, don’t knock the chicken tenders. they’re an important food group.” i stick out my lip in a fake pout and he chuckles.
“yeah, if you’re ten.”
“oh yeah, well what are you gonna get? a burger?” he opens his mouth to defend himself, but as i raise a brow, he chooses to stay silent, letting out a ‘hmph’
“that’s what i thought.” i grin in triumph as a waitress stops by to take our orders. as soon as she leaves, my phone buzzes in my pocket and i slide it out, huffing a laugh at the text.
***
from: quack-quack 🦆
yo, where’d u go?! u disappeared on me!
***
i show the text to Jamie, who laughs as well.
“guess he did try to come back to us.” he shrugs.
“yeah, three hours after he left us!” i giggle, holding my phone up to take a picture of Jamie, who smiles, his arms crossed on the table.
the photo is the only response Trevor gets, but barely 5 minutes later, interrupting Jamie and i’s heavy debate on which Star Wars movie is the best, i get another text.
***
from: jacky ♥️🖤
why is Z telling me you’re out with a guy? at 11:30 at night?? y/n, go home. now. it’s unsafe and i can’t believe you’re being so reckless. i’ll deal with this in the morning.

i roll my eyes, choosing to ignore the text and slip my phone back into my pocket.
“Trevor again?” Jamie asks but i shake my head.
“no, worse. my brother.” i explain as our food arrives.
i smile over at the waitress, muttering out a ‘thank you’ before she retreats.
“you have a brother?” he speaks up as i take a bite of chicken and i nod.
“i have three.” i don’t give him any more information than that. if he’s unaware of who my brothers are, then i don’t want to tell him. not tonight, at least.
“oh damn.” he blows out a breath, his eyes widening. “i have a brother, but i can’t imagine having three. and being the only girl?”
“yeah, they’re pretty protective.”
“do they live here?” he asks, and it feels nice; being able to talk about my family without someone already knowing who they are and pretty much everything about them.
“no.” i shake my head. “one lives in canada, the other two on the east coast.”
he ask me more questions about my family, and i try to keep my answers as vague as possible, while still not being too vague that he thinks i don’t wanna talk about them.
for every question i answer, he gives me a fact about his own family, until the conversation shifts to jobs.
“well obviously you know i’m a hockey player.” he says as i push my now-empty plate away. “do you work?”
“not right now.” i tell him. “i’m focused on school at the moment. i got a full-ride scholarship, because of my grades, so i don’t have to pay for my tuition, and my parents pay for my dorm.
“but because they don’t have to pay for my tuition, they send me a monthly allowance from my college fund so that i don’t have to work and i can focus on my schooling.”
he follows along as i explain, maintaining eye contact.
“that’s cool. it’s good, that you get to focus on your grades.” i yawn as he finishes speaking, attempting to cover it, but he catches on. “oh shit, are you tired?”
“i- just a little bit.” i wince, hoping he doesn’t think i found him boring or anything.
“i can drop you off at your dorm, if you want. i know Trevor picked you up”
i nod as he motions over to the waitress for the check.
“yes, please.” i give in. “i usually wouldn’t mind staying out all night with you, because i’m having a really good time, and you’re so funny and sweet. but, i need to sleep so i can study tomorrow. i have a final on Monday.”
Jamie pays, waving off my offer to pay for my own food, and we exit the diner, climbing back into his car.
the time on his dashboard reads one am and i internally cringe at the idea of having to sneak back into my dorm.
the drive is mainly quiet as i give him directions to my dorm, and i sigh as we pull up in front of the building.
“i had a lot of fun.” i turn to him with a small smile as i unbuckle my seatbelt. “thanks for making tonight a lot less boring, Jamie.”
“yeah, me too.” he nods, “thanks for saving me from drunk Trevor.”
i’m grateful for the darkness of the night sky as he leans over and presses a kiss to my cheek, thanking whatever higher being that he’s unable to see the pink twinge of my cheekbones.
i bid him a goodnight as i exit the car, looking back as i reach the door to the dormitory building, to see him waiting for me to get inside before he leaves. i wave another goodbye, him doing the same as i disappear into the brick building.
i’m blushing, grinning like a lovesick fool the entire elevator ride up to my dorm.
i wonder if he knows how enchanted i was by him. one night together and i’m already thinking about how i would introduce him to my family.
i tiptoe into the dorm room, quiet to try and avoid waking my best friend slash roommate, but my efforts go unappreciated as she’s already sitting up in her bed, waiting for me.
“how was it? were you miserable without me?” Brandy asks from her spot propped against her mountain of pillows. “i bet you were, right?”
but i’m quiet; my mind still stuck on Jamie. he was amazing. so kind, and funny. and he actually asked about me. he genuinely wanted to know about my family and friends, what i liked to do in my free time, and what i wanted to do with my degree.
“oh- i know that look.” Brandy squeals, hopping off her bed and disregarding my half-nakedness in the midst of getting changed into my pajamas, pulling me in for a hug. “who is he? what’s his name? where’s he from? does he have a hot brother?”
“Trevor’s roommate, Jamie, Canada, and he has a brother but i don’t know what he looks like.” i spill, my cheeks red and a wide grin on my lips.
you’d think i just told Brandy i won the lottery with the way she lets out an excited shriek, jumping up and down as i finish changing.
i leave her to get out her excitement as i go wash my face and brush my teeth, but when i’m back, she just seems even more excited.
“tell me all about him!” she demands, hopping back into her bed, turning to face mine as i crawl in and bury myself in my covers.
“he was enchanting.” i sigh, staring up at the popcorn ceiling. “he was so funny, and he was so sweet. we really clicked, Bran.
“we met at the party and spent hours just talking and getting to know each other. and then he took me to this diner, and we spent another hour and a half just talking about our lives. and he doesn’t know who my brothers are! i mean, he knows who they are, obviously, because he plays hockey, but he doesn’t know they’re my brothers.”
“oh sweet angel,” she sighs, and i turn my head to look at her. “you seem so happy.”
her eyes are soft, a gentle smile on her face.
“i am.” i tell her.
“are you gonna see him again?” she questions, laying down under her blankets.
“i don’t know, i—” my mood deflates, my face dropping as realization settles over me. “i didn’t get his number.”
“so ask Trevor for it.” she shrugs, as if it’s easy. and i guess for her, someone who doesn’t have crippling anxiety, it is.
“i can’t.” i shake my head. “that would be so embarrassing. i don’t want Trevor to know i’m interested in his friend. not yet.”
“you’ll see him again, sweet angel.” Brandy assures me, flicking off her lamp. “it’ll work out.”
the room goes dark and quiet, and a mere five minutes later, i can hear her snores fill the room. but i’m still awake.
i grab my phone from where it rests on my bedside table, unlocking it, i’m unsurprised to see it’s two am. i click into my photos app, swiping back and forth between the two pictures i took of Jamie tonight.
questions plague my thoughts.
does he have a girlfriend in canada?
who does he love?
when is he leaving, now that the season is over?
will i ever see him again?
please let this be the very first page of our story.
please don’t let this be where our storyline ends.
i turn off my phone, plugging it in and setting it back on my nightstand. his name echoes through my thoughts, and when i close my eyes, all i picture is him.
please don’t be in love with someone else.
please don’t have somebody waiting on you.
i drift into sleep, my dreams overridden by the same blue eyed, freckled boy that had taken over my mind.
*** TWO MONTHS LATER ***
it’s been months, but i still haven’t moved past that April night with Jamie.
i can be having a normal summer day, and yet some way or another, i’m reminded of the beautiful boy that i spent that night with.
sometimes it’s the blue of the lake water, which reminds me of his eyes. others it’s the color of my coffee in the morning, that reminds me of his hair.
it doesn’t help that nearly all of Trevor’s stories from the past season, include Jamie in some way.
it’s been months, and i still hope to every higher power, that i’ll see him again. that he’s single and hoping to see me too.
i’m sprawled across the couch, my head in my eldest brother’s lap as the guys play chel.
i was reading a book, but that’s been long abandoned; now closed and resting on my chest as i daydream about the freckled disney prince like boy from Anaheim.
“hey.” my trance is broken when Quinn pokes my cheek. i glance up at him, tearing my eyes away from their zoned out glare at the tv. “you okay?”
“yeah, i’m fine.” i give him a small smile. “just wondering where Trevor is and if he can stay there. it’s so quiet.”
Quinn laughs, zoning back into the tv screen as a new game starts between Jack and Cole.
“he went to-” Quinn is cut off by the front door opening and Trevor’s loud voice echoing throughout the house.
“honey, i’m home!” Trevor calls out and Quinn and i share an exasperated glance. “and i brought a guest!”
my brows furrow together at his statement, listening to the two pairs of footsteps that get closer to the living room.
“guys, this is Jamie. you know him from… playing against him.”
my eyes go wide, my head snapping up as i quickly raise myself to a sitting position, accidentally kicking Jack in the groin from my feet having been in his lap.
Jack lets out a groan, doubling over, while Cole laughs and takes that as his chance to score a goal on him in the video game.
“Jimbo, this is Cole, Alex, Quinn, and Jack, who looks like his appendix burst.” Trevor introduces and Jack coughs, holding up his middle finger at his best friend. “and you already know y/n.”
at the mention of my name and the flick of Trevor’s finger towards me, Jamie’s eyes snap to me, a smile on his face.
“hi.” i grin, shuffling to my knees on the couch.
“hey, i’m glad to see you again. i didn’t know you would be here.” Jamie’s eyes light up, crinkling as his smile gets brighter.
“it’s her brothers’ house Jimmy, of course she’ll be here.” Trevor laughs, slapping Jamie’s back, whose eyes go wide as he realizes.
“oh- these are your brothers? you didn’t say they played hockey.” Jamie chuckles awkwardly.
“what?” Jack huffs from behind me. “not only have you met him? but you didn’t tell him about your dear old brothers?”
Jack wraps an arm around the front of my shoulders, pulling me back into him and ruffling my hair.
“get off me, jackass!” i break free from his hold, making him laugh. “i didn’t tell him who you are, but i did tell him how annoying you are.”
Jack gasps in mock offense, reaching out for me, but i clamber into Quinn’s lap.
“keep him away, Quinny!” i shriek, making all the guys laugh.
“Jack, leave her alone.” Quinn chuckles and Jack slumps back on his seat, rolling his eyes.
“you two are no fun.”
“hey mini Hughes?” Trevor starts, plopping down into the seat beside Jack. “you mind showing Jimmy to the empty room? i wanna beat Cole’s ass at chel.”
“sure.” i rise from Quinn’s lap, sending a smile towards Jamie as i motion for him to follow me. he picks up his suitcase, shuffling behind me through the house and up the stairs until i lead him into the empty room beside mine.
“here ya go. your room for the… however long you’re here.” he chuckles at my words, setting his suitcase down on the bed before he turns to me.
“ya know, i was hoping i’d see you again.” he confesses, my cheeks turning pink.
“yeah?” he nods, “me too.”
“i was enchanted to meet you that night.” his hand grabs ahold of mine, lacing our fingers together. “and then i realized i didn’t get your number, and it felt too weird to get it from Trevor. so, i was really hoping i would run into you next season, but here you are now.”
“here i am.” i bite my lip, glancing down at his lips before back at his eyes.
“would you wanna go out while i’m here?” he asks shyly. “like, on a real date?”
“i would love that, Jamie.” i take the chance while i feel bold, wrapping my arms around his neck, his following suit and coiling around my waist.
“yeah?” he replies giddily, his voice filled with excitement and nerves.
“yeah. i’d love that a lot.” his eyes flicker down to my lips before his tongue darts out to wet his own.
“hey, Jamie?” my words earn me a distracted hum in return. “you finally gonna kiss me now?”
“oh yeah.” he nods, causing me to giggle.
his head dips down, our noses brushing as his lips finally press against mine. my entire body melts into his, my hands cupping the back of his neck to pull him closer. our lips fit together perfectly, fire spreading throughout my body at the feeling.
and all i can think, is how enchanting this feeling is.

Part 2
Don't you know I'm no good for you?
I've learned to lose you, can't afford to
Jack may not be much of a coffee guy, but he is nothing but a weak man when it comes to his favorite bagel place. It’s a regular part of his routine, a constant thing. He goes before practice, grabs his usual order, and then he’s gone.
Usually, he keeps his head down, Jersey isn’t the biggest place, and he likes to avoid attention on his mornings off. Yet, he lifts his head when his name is called and moves to thank the lady handing him his food and walk out when he quickly scans the room, his eyes stopping when he lands on a familiar face.
You’re sitting at a small table close to the edge of the room, surrounded by notebooks, highlighters, and staring hard at your computer. He takes a mental note of your concentrated state, knowing you’re probably in the zone, but he elects to ignore that fact as he makes his way toward your table.
You jump slightly when he takes a seat across from you, only to relax, just barely, when you see it’s him.
“Jesus, Jack,” You breathe out, “Scared the hell out of me.”
Jack can’t help but let a smirk take over his features, and his heart twinges a bit when you let a breathtaking smile take over your own face.
“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.” He teases. “What’re you doing here?”
You look at him briefly, then gesture vaguely to your coffee and your wide range of studying supplies. “Homework, or at least trying to.”
“Ah, I see.” He smiles again, relishing in the company of your presence; it’s been over a week since he last saw you.
“Anyway,” you scoot your chair closer to the table, “Come here often? Their bagels are great.”
Jack lets out a small laugh. “Yeah, almost every morning. It’s pretty close to my place and the rink.”
Once he finishes, a look of recognition crosses your features. “I knew this area seemed decently familiar.”
Jack nods, and he watches as you scan over the coffee shop, then finally rest your eyes back on him. The eye contact doesn’t last long, though, when your phone begins to buzz on the table, and you sneak a quick glance down. Jack can’t help but notice the slight smile after you read the message, and his heart falls ever so slightly.
You snap your eyes to meet his and place your phone face down on the table, leaning back in your chair. “Not that I don’t love this reunion in the daylight, but don’t you have somewhere to be?”
The question is fair, he does, in fact, have someplace to be, but if he’s honest with himself, the last thing he wants to do is remove himself from this chair across from you.
“Yeah, but being a little late never hurt anyone.”
You snort at his statement, rolling your eyes at him.
“Go to practice, Jack.”
He knows you’re right, he doesn’t want to leave, but with playoffs around the corner, he shouldn’t be here, no matter how much he wants to stay.
“You’re right,” As he gets up, he notices your almost empty coffee cup. “Can I at least get you a refill before I leave?”
You glance at your coffee, contemplate his offer, and shake your head. “I’m okay, Jack. Thanks anyway.”
He nods, grabs his bagel, and turns to leave, but not before he pauses and turns around again. “You busy tonight?”
Your eyes dart back up again, but before you answer, your phone buzzes again, and you glance down. You take a few seconds to read the message before you answer him.
“I’m not sure. I’ll let you know.”
You give him a warm smile, but there is also a hint of awkwardness behind it. He chooses to ignore the possibility of rejection and nods your way one last time, and makes his way out of the shop.
As he exits, he glances back to your table one last time, already seeing you consumed back into your schoolwork, forgetting he was ever there.
Jack knows he’s not the smartest guy in the world, but he’s smart enough to know when he’s fucked. The idea was not to fall in love, which is easier said than done. He couldn’t help it; it came out of nowhere. You’ve been sleeping together for a while, longer than both of you could care to admit. He knows that the arrangement is simple, and it works. You’re not his, he’s not yours.
But fuck, does he want you to be.
Tore my shirt to stop you bleedin’
But nothin' ever stops you leavin'
Jack gently traces his fingers along your skin, relishing in the feel of your curves beneath his touch. He watches in awe of how your body responds to every move he makes, and he can tell you’re close. Your fingers dig hard into his back, your head falls back ever so slightly, and he slows down his movements to the pace he knows drives you crazy.
To get you there, he concentrates. He knows your body like the back of his hand, but he still tries to watch your face for cues, even though you're not meeting his stare. He didn’t notice it right away when you started sleeping together, but now it’s hard to ignore. No matter what he’s doing, you always look away.
He desperately wants to see you, stare deep into your eyes, and show you, somehow, that when you’re beneath him, it's the closest thing to heaven on earth.
Tonight is different for him, and he needs you to look at him, to see him.
He pulls your face gently to look at him, and reaches down to capture your lips in a heated kiss. He makes sure he’s got your attention. Your pupils are blown with bliss, and the soft look goes give him makes him feel like he’s the only person in the world. Before he can stop himself, he presses his forehead to yours and lets himself fall deep into the endless pools of your eyes.
It’s intimate, you both know that, but for a moment, just that moment, you allow yourself to get lost in each other as you meet your highs.
Jack rides it out as long as possible, loving you in every way he knows how and making sure you feel just as good as him. When you both finally come down, your heavy mixed breathing filling the room, reality sinks in.
You’re the first to break, as always, gently pushing him off you. Jack watches silently as you get off the bed, grabbing various scattered clothing items and pulling them on. He watches with a mixture of longing and disdain. He knows you’re going to leave, you always do, but he can’t help but hope this time you’ll stay.
“Stop being a creep.” A playful grin plays on your face as you catch him staring, finishing pulling on your shirt.
He ignores your joke, “Where are you going?”
You shrug your shoulders way too casually.
“Not sure, maybe out?”
His heart sinks, and he doesn’t want to acknowledge the fact that you’re killing him.
“You could stay? It’s pretty late.” He glances at the clock next to his bed.
The dry laugh you bark out makes him cringe.
“And risk running into the next girl? I’m okay, Jack; I’ll see you later.”
With that and a quick check of yourself, you leave. He’s left with his lingering thoughts and regrets. He knows you’re bad for each other, and he knows that this arrangement will eventually kill him, but he can’t seem to get away.
Jack hears the outside door slam, and he’s truly alone. He decides that his best option is to sleep you off, try to forget the way you felt in his arms and the way you make his heart feel like it’s about to burst. He falls back into his bed, staring at the ceiling. The sheets around him smell like the familiar scent of you, and he hates how it’s comforting. He feels himself falling deeper and deeper into himself, and you didn’t even know he was drowning.
He knows it’s best if he just tries to sleep, flush out any thoughts of you. He doesn’t need to think about where you are or who you’re with because you aren’t his, even though he’d do anything to make you love him as much as he loves you.
He thinks about the last comment you made. About another girl. He knows his reputation and the fact that many people think he’s a player. He’s not, though, and he wishes you knew there wasn’t another girl; it’s only you.
Don't you know too much already?
I'll only hurt you if you let me
Jack's eyes are fixed hard on your back, watching almost every move you make across the dimly lit bar. He can tell you’re relaxed, and your head is thrown back, laughing along with your friends. Though he isn’t close enough to hear the laugh that makes him happy and destroys him, his heart clenches anyway. You look like you’re having the best time in the world, and he can’t help but wonder if he’s crossed your mind, even once.
He is nursing a drink that is too watered down for his taste, and his focus is pulled back to you every time he manages to integrate himself back into his teammate's conversation. While he catches a few snippets here and there, he has no idea what the hell they’ve been talking about for the last twenty minutes, and he hopes they don’t notice that his attention has been elsewhere.
He isn’t that lucky, though, because Nico elbows him slightly in the ribs, leaning toward him.
“You okay, Jacky?”
He nods, feeling horrible. “Yeah, sorry.”
He knows he needs to focus, pay attention to the guys, and have a few drinks after a good week. So he tries, his absolute hardest, to keep his eyes off of you.
He lasts about five seconds, and when he looks back toward your table, you’re gone.
He quickly searches the room and sees you making your way toward the bar. It’s honestly embarrassing how fast he moves, and before he can stop himself, he removes himself from his table and makes a beeline toward you.
He reaches you just as you put in your order, throwing the bartender a thousand-watt smile and leaning ever so slightly over the counter. When you finally notice someone beside you and turn to face him, It’s the brief look of unrecognition that practically kills him.
“Jack?” You recover quickly, slipping on a bright smile. “What’re you doing here?”
He stares hard for a second, unsure if you’re messing with him. He knows he’s told you this is his team's favorite bar, but when you’re still waiting for his answer, he clears his throat.
“Uh, it’s the bar closest to the rink,” He hates the sound of his voice. “I’m here with the guys.”
Your eyes flash behind him to his teammates, and a sly smirk takes over your features.
“Well, don’t they look like fun?”
He lets out a light laugh, “They are.”
The bartender interrupts the conversation, setting down your various drinks. You go to hand him your card, but Jack beats you to it.
“It’s on me.” He hands over his Amex before you can protest, and you shoot him a look he can’t decipher.
“You don’t have to buy my drinks, Jack.”
He shrugs his shoulders as if it’s nothing.
You thank him and the bartender as you pick up the drinks.
“Need help?” Jack asks, watching you struggle to get the last glass.
You finally grasp the cup and flash him another smile. “I got it. Thanks again, Jack.”
As quickly as you came, you were gone, heading back to your table where your friend celebrate your arrival as if you’ve been away for years. Jack watches as you all cheers your drinks, and his heart warms a bit when you catch his eye one more time, winking and raising your glass to him ever so slightly.
He nods and heads back to his own table, determined that at the end of the night, he will get to you somehow. He only wants to have you within reach, talking with his teammates or dragging him out to the dance floor. Above all else, he wants you in his arm. So, he texts you, hoping you’ll invite him over and the night will officially begin, and he can be happy. He waits and continues to glance your way.
You never respond.
Call me friend but keep me closer
And I'll call you when the party's over
When Jack's phone buzzes loudly on his nightstand the first time, he ignores it. It’s late, and he has a big game tomorrow. When it buzzes again and continues, signaling an incoming call, he finally shifts his weight and grabs it.
It’s been a week since he saw you at the bar and even longer since you’d texted. You’ve also never called, which causes his heart to beat a little faster than it should. He presses answer.
“Hello?” He asks, hearing some brief static on the other end.
“Jack?”
Your voice sounds small, and he immediately sits up straighter in bed, suddenly wide awake.
“(Y/N)? Are you okay?”
He hears your sigh softly on the other end.
“Honestly,” You hiccup, “No. I’m wasted, and my best friend has my apartment keys, and they all don’t want to leave, but I feel sick, and my phone is almost dead, and I didn’t know who else to call in Jersey, and I-“
You continue rambling, and Jack can hear you softly sniffling in between words, and It takes him less than ten seconds to throw on a shirt, pants, and make a beeline toward his Range Rover keys.
“(Y/N)” He finally interrupts you, “Where are you? I’m coming to get you.”
He doesn’t hear you for a moment, and he thinks for a second that you hung up.
“No.” You suddenly say sternly, as if you just realized you called him. “Fuck, I’m so stupid. I shouldn’t have called you.”
As you finish, Jack can sense the panic starting to rise in your voice, and he knows that you’re falling deeper into your own head, and he has to pull you out before you disappear.
“Hey, don’t say that. But please, send me your location.”
“No.” You repeat, “You have a game tomorrow. You should be asleep.”
Jack's heart skips a beat when you mention his game. He didn’t know you followed his schedule. His mind begins to run a million places, different places, until he grounds himself and remembers the problem at hand.
“(Y/N),” He says it as hard as he can to force you into telling him where you are. “I’m not gonna be able to sleep until I know you’re home safe. Send me your location.”
It’s silent on the other end of the line, and after a moment, his phone lights up with your pinned location.
“Do not move. I’m about fifteen minutes away. Okay?”
“Okay.” You whisper back to him.
What should have been fifteen minutes turns into less than ten as Jack ignores every driver's safety training he’s ever had. He would do anything to be able to teleport to you, but instead, he goes as fast as he can.
When he pulls up to the crowded bar and doesn’t see you outside, he’s instantly filled with worry. His pulse continues to build until he sees you a small distance away from the entrance, sitting on the curb with your head in your hands.
As soon as he parks, rather badly, he bolts out of the car toward you. When he gets within a few feet of your form, your head snaps up. He watches as a mix of emotions crosses your face, and his heart finally does crumple when he sees a tear slide down your cheeks. It takes everything in him not to wipe it away as he kneels in front of you.
“Can you stand?” He asks softly.
You slowly nod, and he takes both your hands, helping you get to your feet. He watches as you wobble a bit too far to the left, and he catches you in his arms.
The second you’re in his hold, you melt into his touch, and he hates the way that he his entire body finally relaxes, knowing you are safe and in his arms.
Jack continues to steady you, feeling the weight of your body against his. He can smell the alcohol on your breath, and you’re way too cold for his liking after sitting outside. He grabs your shoes and phone and begins walking you toward his car. Once you’re there, he gets you into the vehicle, buckles you in, and hands you a bottle of water he’d thankfully grabbed from the fridge.
“There we go,” he says, making sure you’re set.
Your eyes follow him as he climbs into the driver's seat, and once he turns the car on, you break the silence.
“Thank you, Jack.” You whisper, your head falling a bit toward the window.
Jack focuses on the road as he makes his way back toward his apartment. He knows you’re in no state to be brought home alone, and he’d never forgive himself if something happened to you.
“Jack?” You speak again, and he hums. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry.” He means it. “I’ll always be here when you need me.”
He turns to face you briefly, and he has never seen you look so sad, and it crushes him all over again. He wants to talk to you, figure out what’s going wrong in that beautiful mind of yours, and do anything to fix it. But he knows that this conversation can be had at a later date. Instead, he turns on a radio, and when he steals another glance at your figure, you are asleep.
Jack drives slowly and carefully to his apartment, knowing he has the most precious cargo to him sitting in the passenger seat. When he finally pulls into the parking ramp and turns off the car, you are still dead to the world.
He quickly unbuckles and moves to get you, gently trying to shake you awake.
“Hey, (Y/N),” he whispers, “we’re here.”
You let out a soft groan and rub your eyes. “Can’t I just stay here? It’s so comfy.”
You snuggle deeper into the seat, and Jack thinks he will die. You look so goddamn adorable, and it’s driving him insane that he can’t kiss you.
“Sorry baby,” the nickname slips before he can stop it. “I gotta get you inside.”
He smiles at your pouty face, and he unbuckles your seatbelt. He lifts you out of the car and sets you down for a second, grabbing your things and handing you his keys before scooping you back into his arms.
You softly hum in contentment as your head lolls against his chest. Jack thinks you’ve dozed off again until you open your eyes slightly.
“You're pretty strong," you slur. “Clearly, hockey is good for a person.”
Jack lets out a deep chuckle as you snuggle deeper into his hold, and after a few minutes of struggle to get through doorways without hitting you on something and teamwork to open his door, you’re safe in his apartment.
Twenty minutes later, he’s helped you take off your makeup because he knows your skin care is essential, he’s gotten you water and Advil, and you're wrapped in his clothes and lying beneath his duvet.
As he watches you breathe, gathering a few things to sleep on the couch, he can’t help but feel a sense of protectiveness wash over him. He wants nothing more than to climb next to you, but he’ll resist.
He stares a bit longer when suddenly your eyes peel open.
“You have a staring problem, Jack.”
Your tone is teasing, but his entire body grows hot, and all he wants is to get the hell out of his bedroom. He tries to make his escape, but not before you speak again, and it stops him dead in his tracks.
“You know, I broke my own heart loving you first.”

The bathroom counter in my room is overflowing with make-up. As always, I decided to lay a little bit longer than necessary in bed as I should, and this is the result of it. I cannot even navigate through the stuff, making my frustration rise more.
My palms are sweaty, my arms are aching and the goddamn eyeliner is getting crooked more and more each time I try to fix it. This is not my day. I am hoping that it at least looks presentable, the last thing I want is to look horrendous on national television.
Don’t even get me started on my outfit, the new bought heels I put on to stretch already digging into my feet. Sure, the heels are Jimmy Choo’s ( I would never buy anything else ), but even the price tag can’t fix the already forming blister.
,,Thalia! Stop hogging the bathroom!” my brother screams from outside, banging on the door for the millionth time.
Did I mention it was the day of the draft?
The day Mattheo had been working towards his entire life, the past week of his life incredibly stressful, the combine and interviews going with being the fourth projected pick.
We had flown to Dallas two days later than him, residing in the Mariott hotel in downtown Dallas. The whole family is here for this once in a lifetime event. Whole family but one person.
I can see that it’s troubling him, dad was one of his biggest supporters, paying for various trainers and private ice time with them. Despite all that, he is not here. I am sad for him, remembering the special father and son bond between them.
,,Give me a second” I shout back at him, even though knowing that the second would be a lot longer. How much more can my arms ache?
,,Thalia!” my brothers annoyed tone making me screw up more ,,Come on!”
,,Oh my god Theo stop! You’re making me nervous!” I report back in annoyed sneer. “You?!Nervous ?!” I don’t know how he manages to be louder each time. “Are you forgetting it’s my draft day?!”
,,Oh my god! Fine!” I reply, trying to swiftly gather my things into my make-up bag. Luke’s bathroom will have to do. I open the door, revealing my annoyed brother standing there.
,,Finally” he says as he enters the bathroom. “Asshat,, I retort my last comment before leaving the room.
The trip down the hallway is short, five steps and I am already knocking on his door.
But the boy opening the door is not the brother I am expecting . ,,Thalia?” Jack is raising his eyebrow at me making me squirm under his gaze. ,,Um, Could I finish getting ready in your room? Mattheo needs to get ready and he can’t when I’m in the bathroom” the blush to my cheeks rising as I ask the question.
,,Sure, but Luke is not here” the newfound information making me almost wish I hadn’t come here. I enter the room and swiftly aim for the bathroom, hoping to get away from the awkward silence that fell between me and the boy who stole my heart and doesn’t even know it.
What I didn’t expect is him following me and sitting on the bathtub beside me. “So, what are we doing?” he asks, catching me off guard. “We?,, I nervously laugh. “Sure, Lils, I’m not going to sit there when I can keep you company,, he nonchalantly replies.
I pray he doesn’t see the effect he has on me and that the foundation tint is covering my red cheeks. If it hadn’t been for my mind replaying the sentence over and over again, I wouldn’t even notice the name he said.
“You know my name is Thalia, right?” I ask and he laughs like it is the greatest joke he heard for a while. “You think I’m dumb? Lils is my new nickname for you, you have lillies on your dress” he voices the detail of my dress.
,,Oh” it was as I forgotten all of the english vocabulary and the only response I can muster is this.
,,Let me help you, sit” he says, noticing me still not drawing the eyeliner right. “Jack, please, like you know how to do it” I reply, rolling my eyes. “And you do?,, he jokingly answers.
He puts his hand around my biceps and sits me down on the bathtub, standing up and taking the make-up tool from my hand.
I gaze up to him, admiring the focused look in his eyes, but most importantly admiring him. The small freckles covering the bridge of his nose, the pink hue on his cheeks from spending time in the sun. The lines of focus between his eyebrows reminding me that he is human, and not some carefully carved sculpture. Jack Hughes is perfection.
,,Here, done” he finishes drawing the eyeliner. I stand up, expecting the disaster on my eyes, but when I gaze into the mirror, the eyeliner is drew on, good? It honestly makes me surprised.
I voice my thoughts with surprised laugh ,,Where did you learn this?”. Jack looks at me “I often watch my girlfriend do make-up, I’m kind of a pro right now” the world girlfriend silencing my next words. I just stand there gaping at him, the awkward silence sweeping over the room. The sentence is a dig to my heart, reminding me that I can admire him all I want, but I can never have him.
I think that my guardian angels decided to help me, and thank god they did, because Luke enters the room.
,,Come on Jack, we have to go - Thalia?” he asks surprised. “Oh Hi Luke, I was just here to finish my make-up, Mattheo occupied the bathroom” I answer his confusion.
Quickly cleaning up the stuff, I gather it to my hands leaving the room ,,I should go see if mom and Theo are ready, see you” I leave without waiting for the answer.
♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
I am in a state of awe for the last 5 minutes, and the cause for a first time in a while is not Jack. As I am sitting in my seat, the NHL level stadium makes the situation feel ten times more real than back in the hotel, signalling the significance of the event.
Our seats are in the higher part of the arena, right before the Hughes family. Luke is shaking his leg notoriously, he seems even more nervous than Quinn and Theo, the actual people being drafted.
There is a limit on the amount my nerves can handle, and before I know , I am complaining to him ,,Luke! I swear to god, if you’re going to shake that leg one more time, I’m going to slice it” I say to him, making him widen his eyes. “Geez Thalia, never took you as the psycho type” Jack inserts himself into the conversation. Once again, reminding me of his unforgettable presence in my life.
My mother knowingly smiles at me, knowing the real reason for my snapping. I feel sad for Mattheo, one of the most important events of his life is here, and dad is missing. I can see it’s troubling him, so I put my hand around his leg.
,, He is looking, you know it right?” I say to him, trying to calm him. He offers me a bittersweet smile in response ,,I know”.
The ceremony soon begins, anticipation filling my entire body. The reports saying Mattheo is going to be one of the first first rounders - making it known that the fate of his draft is going to be revealed soon.
First pick belonged to Buffalo Sabres, and the smile on the lucky hockey protégé picked for them making me excited for Theo’s moment.
I am thinking, not even noticing that the next team is picking. Selfishly, I hope that he would be going to the Detroit Red Wings to be close, but I know he is going to be picked sooner.
Then the Montreál Canadiens appear on stage. Making the usual speech.
The second Mattheo's name is called by the Montreal Canadiens, we jump from our seats and scream in joy. First mom hugs him, her eyes are shining with tears making my own spill in reponse. I hug him too, being the proudest sister there is on planet earth in this moment, my heart soaring with happiness. He made it, and I couldn’t be more proud. He leaps a few steps up to the Hughes family to hug Quinn, his now former teammate. And then the journey to his new team begins.
My heart skips a beat as I watch him make his way to the stage, a mix of emotions swirling within me. Pride, excitement, and pure happiness radiating off him and in return, off me.
After the moment ends, we sit back down. I can basically feel the anxiety radiating from Quinn by not being picked yet. All I can do is plead with god and my dad to bring the moment sooner.
It is as they hear my prayers, because as soon as the Vancouver Canucks call the name of their next new player, my ears reach the sound of a name of the boy I had grown to care about so much over the span of past three and a half years. I jump from my seat for a second time, expierencing the happiness once again.
The proud feeling coursing through my body from both of the boys successful drafts is beautiful. Me and Luke hug, feeling proud of our eldest brothers and wanting to share the moment together. The two bestfriends made it onto the international stage, an accomplishment we will be celebrating for a long time.
♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
The draft had been a rollercoaster of emotions, but seeing Quinn and Mattheo's dreams come true was an incredible moment.
We meet with them after the draft, the smile is permanently etched on their faces for the rest of the evening, making the whole group feel good.
The only thing that doesn’t feel good are my feet. Who suggested these painful heels? I know the answer, making me frustrated at myself. My ,,silent” huffing is unnoticed, until I see the middle Hughes boy stopping and waiting for me.
,,Come on, jump” He says, catching me off guard. “What?,, I reply, the confusing train of thoughts surging through me until he crouches . ,,Jump” he says, waiting for me to jump on him.
My proud mind is screaming at me not to, wanting to prove my mother I can wear heels for the whole evening even if she insisted I couldn’t.
But as I try to take another step, the pain spreading through my feet is too much for me to bear, making me jump on him.
Despite being dark, I can see daylight. Personified in the presence of him.
I don’t even notice the knowing look on the elder women faces as they watch us. As if secretly knowing what the future holds for us. We will soon find out.

Ik we're not discussing them now, so you dont have to answer this
But I feel like it would take Jack and Quinn ages to 'forgive' John for getting maya pregnant
It would take luke a little while too, but once he gets over the trauma that his sister has sex (with a man 6 years older than him) he just wants maya to be okay, even if it means forgiving John
But Quinn keeps going back to the 'he's 2 years older than me and got my baby sister, who I watched grow up, pregnant, and essentially put her life on pause'
Jack.... Jack has issues with this for multiple reasons, between the age thing, and the fact that maya would've been upset for a while after finding out, the fact he's probably worried about maya, and the fact that thats his baby sister and his teammate . Man js ready to throw punches Nico is STRESSED
I’m gonna write about this in points so I get everything!
Jack takes forever to forgive John. Like it feels like his own teammate stabbed him in the back going for his sister. Sure John didn’t know her as baby Hughes but that didn’t bring Jack any comfort. He thinks that Maya was taken advantage of and that feels like a kick in Jack’s teeth as he did nothing to help her Quinn feels the same way about this. It also doesn’t help that Maya refused to tell Jack who the father of the baby was so when he found out it was John he thought the worse.
Quinn grew up thinking that Maya could do no wrong in his eyes and he still thinks that way so he puts all blame for what happened on John. Quinn also can’t help but think that Maya has lost everything for this baby and for this guy who really didn’t seem to want her for a while. Quinn’s big thing is that he just hates the feeling of someone taking his sister’s innocence away, he knew she wasn’t a virgin but making her a mother was massive. But because John is older than her Quinn expects John to step up in ways that even Maya doesn’t think of.
Luke gets over the fact that she had sex relatively quickly. It was the fact that he was six years older than made him cringe that took him longer to get over. But throughout the whole thing Luke just wanted Maya to be okay, he was the brother that stuck with her through it all and was there when she wanted to cry or wanted the 3:00am cravings (she definitely stayed with Jack and Luke until like seven months because the boys refused to let her move in with John until they knew he was serious)
Practice for the boys is so awkward because Jack is always glaring at John and the moment he even looks at another girl Nico has to go into defensive nod because Jack is ready to punch the living daylights out of John.

Sissy Lore!
SHE IS AN EVENT PLANNER
she used to have a giant crush on matty t and it was before her and trevor started dating so he just got to watch her fawn over him and he hated it
to this day he gets annoyed when they talk
she’s a runner when she’s drunk to the point that she scared the living daylights out of quinn and now has to be tethered to somebody at a party
update: they all have air tags at parties
sissy and z drunk together tends to end up with them sleeping in random places
she has the date she moved in with the hughes family in roman numerals tattooed over her heart
she has “146” tattooed on her wrist. the 1 is for trevor, the 4 is for luke and quinn, and the 6 is for jack
she often jokes when jack is on her nerves that the 6 is for jamie
her and jamie used to call each other husband and wife! they had silicone rings, and jamie took his off on the final game of the season because that’s when trevor proposed
she’s very forgetful when it comes to letting someone know where she’s going and once randomly flew to vc to see quinn and forgot to tell trevor
she’s there when her kids (or anyone really) need her. whether that be physically flying or driving through the night to get to them, or on the phone for hours. she’s there.
most of the umich boys are her fatherless children
she’s a sleepy girl! can’t get ahold of her? she’s probably napping. she likes to fall asleep on anyone and everyone
she sleeps as close to trevor as physically possible (this includes her brothers)
she’s a biter!!!
cole gets a twice a year sissy pass
dylan is the only exception because she’s known him for years (his is the original fatherless child)
spencer knight is another exception because i said so
she calls matthew tkachuk “her rat” and she’s his “little mouse”
she’s the biggest hunger games fan to ever exist
she cries every time quinn leaves when he visits
her and jack share a birthday! they call each other their twin, soulmate, and ex husband/wife
her and jack dated for a month in middle school before deciding it was way too weird
i do believe this is it! new tag: penalty box series: sissy lore just dropped!

The Hughes family have always been supportive of you and your skating career, even if you aren’t their child. The only problem being is one Hughes that doesn’t seem to be a fan of you, Quinn Hughes. He’s always seemed to have a problem with you being around, or having his family support you.
You never did anything to him that you know of, he’s just always glares at you as soon as you enter a room. You’ve always got along with his brothers, even tried to get along with him. You have to admit it kind of hurts you that he doesn’t like you because you have strong feelings for him.
All though these feelings were going unnoticed by Quinn, but Jack, you’re best friend since god knows when can see the clear as daylight. He always tells you that you should tell him and rip the bandage off, you being to scared to get hurt by someone you’ve came to love over the years.
That brings you to current time, you and the Hughes parents sitting at the stadium watching the two younger boys play, the score is currently 3-0 with the devils winning. You couldn’t pay attention to the game, every once and a while you feel Quinn’s gaze on you. He’s sitting 2 seats away refusing to sit by you.
With you feeling his gaze it’s taking all the power in you to not look over to see him, all the possibilities of him glaring at you would just hurt you more.
“And with that the Devils have won their game!” The announcer said over the radio, the devils have won and are headed back to their locker rooms, with family’s following. You’ve decided that it should be a family moment for the boys and their family so you decide to step out and head to your care.
“Hey, y/n wait up!” You hear a voice call out to you, as you go to turn around you soon realize who’s voice that was, Quinn. you were almost to scared to turn around. Fighting yourself and turn around anyways, baring yourself for the rath that you feel you’re about to get.
“Hey, Quinn… why aren’t you in there supporting your brothers?” You ask, with all the questions going thought your head. Was he going to yell at you? Was he just telling me not to show anymore? Why is he talking to me? A thousand thought go through your head all at once.
You can feel the tension radiating off of you two, and anyone passing you can as well. The silence waiting for him to answer your question is killing you, for him to be in such a rush to get to you, you’re wondering why he’s taking forever to get to the point.
“I just wanted to say I’m sorry, Jack told me how you felt about me. And I want to say I’m so sorry for making you feel as if I hated you, I don’t hate you… quite the opposite actually.” He states leaving you in a shock, not knowing if you should be mad or relived that Jack told him about your feelings. “I understand if you don’t feel the same anymore because of the way I’ve treated you in the past, but I was thinking maybe we could just start over?” Before you can even get a sentence out you hear Jack yelling in the back.
“Did it work?? Did she fall in love with you? I need answers man!” He’s exclaiming running over to the both of you. Quinn gives him a look of annoyance silently telling him to back off. “I’ll go wait in the car…” Jack says backing away from from you both. You still in a shock looks at quinn. When you look at him all you can see in his eyes is the love that he has for you.
“I love you quinn, I have since I was 10 years old.. since we first saw eachother on the ice. You playing hockey, me practicing for the recital I had that weekend. I have loved you for so long, when I thought you hated me I had to try and fight those feelings, that was the hardest thing I had to do.” You confess while tears build up in your waterline, you can’t tell if they’re from sadness or relief. As you’re confessing to him all he can do is stare into your eyes and take in all you’re words.
Not knowing what he should say, he says what his heart is telling him. “Be my girlfriend, let’s go on dates, start over this whole fued and start a journey together.” He takes your hands into his own. Without saying anything you pull your lips to his, sharing a passionate and loving kiss.
You couldn’t be happier, breaking the kiss all you both could do is stare into each others eyes with only the love that you share for one another.
“Fuck, I love you, y/n y/l/n. I always will.” Quinn expresses not taking his eyes off of yours.
“I love you, Quinn Hughes.”
With that you both live a long happy life together. Going to each others games or recitals. You being finally relieved that you don’t have to hide your feelings towards him ever again.

Oooh Nico/Jack bullet fic prompt: 29. “Don’t lie to me. I was there.”  Make it angsty maybe? PLEASE
Thanks! 💕
🫡 on it boss
29. “Don’t lie to me. I was there.”
The silence inside the dark tower room is stifling.
Nico's standing by the window at the back of the room, hands tucked into his pockets. Jack knows he's hiding his clenched fists. He lounges against the corner of that enormous desk, feigning nonchalance. His gut churns.
"Are you just gonna stand there and brood all evening, or did you call me here for a reason?"
Nico turns, and his face is cold as marble. Oh, Jack has pissed him off. That was the goal, but, fuck, it's still scary to see Nico Hischier's wrath fixed on him.
"You're too smart to play dumb, Jack. You know what this is about. Explain to me what I saw at the national theatre that night, and tell me why I had to find out through the grapevine that you're talking business with the New York factions."
Hook. Line. "I talked to a lot of people that night. It's a social, Hischier, you're supposed to mingle. I don't know who you think I was chatting with, but--"
"Don't lie to me. I was there." Jack's jaw clacks shut, and he watches Nico walk slowly around the desk, stopping an arm's length away. Jack's heart hammers in his chest. What would he do? "Maybe it's my fault for never stating it outright, but the implications of us together meant your loyalty to the Jersey faction. Is that not the case?"
Us together. What a loaded sentence. Jack pretends to check his nails, all while keeping an eye out on Nico beside him, just in case he decides to swing. "You know, NY did just scoop up all that sweet, unchartered territory in the Eastern Conference. It would be silly of me to not show an interest, no? They're the kings of the jungle right now."
Sinker. It's the right words to say to push Nico's buttons. The sting of losing out on everything east of their boundary line is still fresh, and if he wants to incite Nico's hatred, Jack's gotta push him to his limits.
That being said, the words work a little too well.
"Get out," Nico says, so softly, so cruelly, it feels like falling asleep on top of a nail-stuffed goose-feather pillow. Jack's heart falls into the pits of his stomach, then drops out and rolls across the floor into the dark. "Get out, Hughes, and don't you ever darken my fucking doorstep again. If you do, you won't leave a second time."
Jack doesn't need to be told twice.
His boys are waiting a block away like he'd told them to, slouching against the car outside in spite of the drizzly, misty rain. They snap to attention when Jack appears around the corner. "Get in. We're leaving tonight."
"What, that's it?" Cole sputters. "What the fuck happened upstairs? I was expecting you to come down with blood all over you or something. And if not that, you breaking and spilling your guts to him."
Jack scowls and throws himself in the driver's seat. "My plan worked, like I said it would."
"He brought it?" Trevor asks, skeptical.
"He brought some version of it," Jack shrugs, through what feels like a mouthful of glass. "He's mad enough at me right now that he's not going to question us leaving, so let's go. We're burning daylight, and we have a rat to smoke out with our neighbours across the river."
"I don't get it," Cole mutters as they drive off, so quietly Jack almost misses it. "Guy's basically in love with you and he's just letting you go like this? He's either bluffing or you're too good at acting, Jacky."
Trevor gives him a sharp side-eye, but Jack ignores him.
He won't think about that. Not right now. Not when he's got to do this for Nico.

I just know El is so sassy. Her and Jack are always sassing each other. Lovie just shakes her head.
oh my god the things jack and el say to each other— half the time lovie is near tears trying to hold in her laughter because like,, she knows she shouldn’t laugh at el talking back but god is it funny to see jack get a taste of his own medicine.
just the other day, jack went to wake el up because it was like 8am and she was still asleep (el is still adjusting to daylight savings, so her internal clock still says it’s 7am at 8am), and when jack woke her up she got so grumpy. she looked at him with the infamous hughes pout and pointed to her door and went “out, daddy!” and when jack just laughed and told her it was time to get up, she tricked him by getting out of bed (she transitioned to a toddler bed now and lovie absolutely was emotional over it) and taking his hand and walking him out of her room (making him think they were both leaving the room) but then once jack was out of her room, she shouted “me alone, daddy!” and slammed her door shut.
jack opened the door with furrowed brows and his hand on his hip and sternly told her “eleanor elizabeth hughes, we do not slam doors and you do not yell at me.” and she just looked at him with a blank face and goes “yes, i do.”. they were there for at least ten minutes with a repetition of “out, daddy!” “no.” “daddy, go!” “i do what i want, i’m an adult.”, just sassing each other back and forth. lovie was in the living room, overhearing it all and just laughing at their back and forth.

Round 2: Death Do Us Part vs Dead Man's Chest
Tumblr media Tumblr media

We're going between the stars and the sea with Death Do Us Part and Dead Man's Chest are our next episodes to progress to the quarter finals, beating out The Blood of Juana the Mad and Murder on the Ballarat Train after two close races. Vote for the one you think is most ridiculous:
Supporting statements
3x8 - Death Us Do Part
Nominators say: "I'm very confused"
Literally all of the plot.
Wren waits YEARS to avenge the death of his wife?!? And donates a huge amount of money to do it?!
The 'alien' aka glowing priest.
Hugh somehow convincing the priest that the Big Bang was real but that God caused it in all of two seconds, right after the man was literally throwing down with scientists hours earlier.
Anything and everything relating to the feasibility of Phryne flying her father to England.
2x3 - Dead Man's Chest
Nominators say: "There was not enough actual treasure"
Someone deposited the fish monger's dead body beneath the pier in broad daylight on a busy beach and no one noticed?
Actually what on earth was going on with that smuggling plot. Also there being two doublooms. I'm confused again.
Phryne flirting with Gerald?????? She must have been desperate.
Phryne and Jack go for a midnight swim fully clothed after dangling off the side of the pier.
The temperance union are really dedicated to picketing crime scenes, including those with the dead bodies of their former members 🤨
