While waiting for Let Free the Curse of Tae Kwan Do to upload (iqiyi get on your shit), my mind is still obsessing over the former best friend, rival, love interest (former?), love-interested (current?) Ha Hyeon Ho.

I love depictions of queer longing, confusion, and hurt, and I think that Hyeon Ho will be a picture of all of these. He's clearly aware of his feelings (what's their history? Will we get more details on why he pulled back?) and there is something so fucked about how he is dealing with his feelings.

But fearing what you truly want? What makes you ache? Acting out in anger? I love to see this kind of depiction in BL--it's a special kind of horror and desire. And it is quite the foil to Ju Yeong--who wants to protect even if it means getting the shit beaten out of him.

Because right now Hyeon Ho is content to let others take the blame for something he does

Will he change? Will he redeem himself and his feelings? Or will he back away or out Lee DoHoe? The boy he can't stop looking at but can't bring himself to touch unless it's in anger and even then he can't quite commit.

Can he let him go?

Or can a relationship between two men be something more than friendship? With no punishment?

Mini-review:

I knew right upon reading this drama's plotline that it would be right up my alley, and I wasn't wrong. It's just such a great mixture of comedy, romance and tragedy. And despite its short length, the two leads are beautifully written and developed. Hell, even some of the supporting characters are pretty well defined. Both Kim Min Ha and Gong Myung are perfectly cast, plus they share some amazing chemistry. I also loved the cinematography, which gives the whole thing a movie-like vibe. My one gripe would be the editing; there are moments where it feels like some scenes are missing. Anyway, if you're looking for a short drama that can make you both laugh and cry, Way Back Love is the answer.

This is a beautiful series. I smiled, laughed and cried. This is the story of a mother who loves her children and will fight to the teeth to protect them. As a mother myself, I could understand her feelings and her actions. Queen Im Hwa Ryeong is an intelligent woman, street smart, and she has learned to play the politics game to protect her five sons. He eldest, the Crown Prince and his own wife, little boy and his youngest on the way are her pride and joy. He is the model child everyone would want to have. She worries about his health.

When the king decides to look for a substitute for the Crown Prince's assistant, the Queen will have to prepare her other four carefree sons so they can show they are just as worthy as their other half-brothers. But as she tries to do so without alarming them, she runs around inside and outside the palace looking for them.

Her second son, Grand Prince Seong Nam, was taken away from her when he was born. She was able to bring him home after years of living outside like a commoner. He feels like an outsider inside the palace and likes to train outside, but he loves his brothers, and cherishes his relationship with his older brother.

Grand Prince Muan is a young man in love with a woman of low birth. His mother is constantly getting him out of her home and bring him back to the palace.

Grand Prince Kye Seong is a quiet young man who brings peace to his mother but carries a secret that could kill him.

Grand Prince Il Young is in his early teens and too young to care about politics.

As the political intrigues unravel, we see her relationship with her sons strengthen. This a woman who will protect, not only her children, but the king's other sons. . . She is strong and flexible, accepting and a problem solver.

I liked her relationship with her sons. How she interacts with each and gives them the support they need while also giving them wings. I also like her relationship with the King. Out of all his wives, the audience can see a special bond between them. He values her opinion and respects her. She respects him, although there are things she will always keep away from him in order to protect her sons. She is indeed her son's secret keeper and their support.

I really love what the title symbolizes. The umbrella she puts over her boys' heads when it rains and what it all means.

I truly love this story!

I think for what the show put me through, I deserved to see them live their simple life in that house by the creek in Neunggun-ri. I wanted to see them in their house where they raise 3 hens so they can have eggs every morning and where they make wine in autumn so they can drink it in winter 😭 it was such a beautiful story but damn, I need to see more of their joy to balance out all the pain 😭😭

Jung-Woo ve Ha-Neul arasındaki ilişki, dostluk, rekabet ve yavaşça gelişen romantik bağlarla dolu. İkilinin, birbirlerinin eksik yanlarını tamamlaması ve birlikte büyümesi, hikayeyi sıcacık bir hale getiriyor.

Komedi ve dram öğelerini dengeli bir şekilde harmanlayan Doctor Slump, bazen hayattaki başarısızlıkların aslında yeni bir başlangıcın habercisi olabileceğini gösteriyor. Doctor Slump is, in short, the story of two doctors who’ve lost their way and are trying to stand up again. After once being at the height of their careers, Yeo Jeong-Woo (Park Hyung-Sik) and Nam Ha-Neul (Park Shin-Hye) find themselves at a crashing low—both professionally and personally. The drama follows their journey as they support each other through these tough times and attempt to make a fresh start.

Yeo Jeong-Woo is a surgeon who suddenly loses everything while at the peak of his success, plunging into a period of self-doubt and emotional numbness. He moves out of his luxurious home into a small rooftop apartment in a quiet neighborhood—only to find out that his new landlord’s daughter is none other than his former university rival, Nam Ha-Neul. Back in college, they couldn’t stand each other and saw one another as competition, but now fate forces them into a strange companionship. What makes Jeong-Woo’s character even more interesting is how his perfectionist tendencies in the past masked deeper insecurities and self-doubt.

Among the side characters, Bin Dae-Yeong (Yoon Park) and Lee Hong-Ran (Kong Seong-Ha) stand out. The best part of the show, for me, was Park Hyung-Sik. I realized just how much I missed watching him on screen. From Min-Min in Strong Girl Bong-Soon to Mon-Mon in Happiness (yes, I call him that because he had gained a bit of weight then), and now Min-Mon in this drama, he alone made the show worth watching.

The relationship between Jeong-Woo and Ha-Neul is built on friendship, rivalry, and a slowly blooming romantic connection. Watching them fill in each other’s emotional gaps and grow together gives the story its warm and heartfelt tone.

Blending comedy and drama in a well-balanced way, Doctor Slump gently reminds us that failure in life can often be the beginning of something new. The show not only gives us a glimpse into the lives of doctors but also focuses heavily on their human sides. It reminds viewers that setbacks and mistakes are natural parts of life and that it’s how we deal with them that truly matters.

The production quality and cinematography also stand out. The chaos of city life and the characters’ inner turmoil are visually well-represented. Simple but powerful scenes—especially those that highlight moments of self-reflection—leave a strong impression. An interesting fact is that Park Hyung-Sik and Park Shin-Hye have been friends in real life for years, and this real-life rapport shows in their onscreen chemistry. I didn’t expect them to be this compatible at first, but I had to admit it worked.

In conclusion, Doctor Slump is a heartfelt, relatable drama that sincerely explores the ups and downs we all face. With its emotional depth, warmth, and hope-filled storytelling, it’s the kind of drama that feels like medicine for the soul. The chemistry between Park Hyung-Sik and Park Shin-Hye, their strong performances, and the series’ encouraging message make Doctor Slump well worth watching.
