You are late,” you said to Jaehyun who had finally arrived at the coffee shop. His chest heaved up and down, his cheek flushed and the tips of his ears red. He stared down at you. The tea before you is hot, smoking rising from the up. The sunglasses over your eyes concealed the excitement and fear in your iris.
He held up a letter in his hands motioning it to you.
“I know everything,” he said letting out an exhausted breath.
“He knows too,” he said with a smirk.
"I'm not even surprised you told him," you said as you sipped your tea. You placed it back down with a small shrug. "Then again when could I ever trust you?"
———
Early that week, five days before Johnny.
“Four tickets as promised,” Wendy said to Miyeon. The two stood outside Wendy’s car parked a few blocks away from the dorms. You sat inside shades concealing your face. You briefly looked at the interaction between the two. Miyeon a curiosity led her to look your way, only for you to move your head.
Wendy came back into her view handing her the beige envelope. Miyeon smiled going to take the package but Wendy pulled her hand away. Miyeon scoffed but Wendy pursed her lips.
“Proof first,” she said holding the envelope in her hand tightly her arms crossed over her chest. Miyeon annoyed sighed as she dug into her pink purse for her phone. She showed it to Wendy and Wendy took out her phone to take pictures of the messages. There in the text was proof she had dumped Jaehyun.
“If it makes a difference I blocked him,” she said. Wendy looked up at her. She eyed her with a shake of her head. “You’ve got a trip and money, and you’re asking for more?” She asked. Miyeon shifted uncomfortably looking away from Wendy. Wendy scoffed out a chuckle swiping through the messages and taking more photos. Miyeon’s leg bounced as she waited.
Once she was done she handed the phone back to Miyeon. “Delete those,” she said. Miyeon nodded putting her phone away. Wendy placed her phone away too, avoiding a few gazes from people who passed by. She handed Miyeon the envelope She held it in her hands opening it and checking the tickets were in there. With a satisfied smile, she closed the envelope.
“We’re done here,” she said as she walked away and back to the car. Wendy watched as Miyeon walked off and back to the dorm. The two of you waited for another hour, watching in the black car as Miyeon and her friends walked out with suitcases and purses. They were all laughing and smiling, excited about their trip. A car soon pulled up taking them away to the airport. Once it drove off Wendy took off back to your place.
“We need to move quickly. Jaehyun may have his moments but he’s not stupid. Johnny will eventually start whispering in his ear,” you said pacing around your living room. Everyone including Ten sat on your couch, Ten and Jisung sitting the farthest apart.
“How much time do we have?” Jungwoo asked. You shrugged followed by Wendy. The room fell silent for a moment before Jungwoo spoke again. “How about approaching him like Haechan? Or Mark?” He asked. You shook your head, Jisung as well.
“It’s different Jaehyun is the only one there who genuinely likes Y/n. Or at least at a certain point, he did. They have history, history he doesn’t let anyone forget,” he said the last part he had rolled his eyes.
“So it needs to be more meaningful?” Wendy asked. You nodded. “Something that would make Jaehyun believe he was receiving a second chance,” you said as you tapped your chin. You continued to walk back in forth forcing your brain to come up with some sort of idea.
“Is there something you used to say or do together?” Jisung asked you. You paused for a moment thinking. You went to speak but were cut off.
“What does that have to do with anything?” Asked Ten who sat alone on the couch. He eyed Jisung motioning his hand to you as he sat up. Jisung eyed him gritting his teeth. He really did not want to have another fight not when time was of the essence but Ten was proving that to be difficult. “Ten stop,” you said eyeing him. You crossed your arms over your chest. “Now is not the time,” you said looking away and walking to your kitchen. You were starting to get thirsty.
“Oh really?” He asked watching you always away. “Then when will it be? Huh?” He asked sounding much more upset than before. “When we can act like I’m not in love with you anymore? When you don’t talk to me in the next six months and then after time is up we can act like things never happened?” He yelled.
You slammed your cup of water on the counter placing a hand on your hip. “Ten that has absolutely nothing to do with what we’re discussing right now,” you said annoyed. You let out a frustrated sigh.
“I mean honestly can you think of anyone else but yourself right now? This is important to me and-“
“And what I’m messing it up?” He asked a scoff leaving his lips. “What? I mean you can’t be serious,” he said. Jisung moved closer to your side. Ten scoffed again shaking his head in disbelief, a smile forming on his lips.
“I knew from the beginning I thought this was a bad idea. But I had hope for you, seeing you made it so far. But do you honestly believe Jaehyun will want anything to do with you after that video?” He asked.
“He doesn’t have the video. Yuta gave me the copy,” you responded.
“Yeah?” He said raising a brow. “And how well can you trust Yuta? How well can you trust Johnny? Are you sure they weren’t lying to you?” He asked anger in his voice.
“Doyoung wouldn’t be that stupid,” you spat back.
“Oh really? So since we trust one of them to take them down Winwin, we have to trust all of them?” He asked. You remained silent seeing that arguing back got you nowhere.
“Or is this no longer about Winwin?” He said. Jisung confused looked in your direction.
“What does he mean?” He asked you.
“Ten stop being an ass,” said Wendy. He ignored her speaking anyway.
“It means that Winwin was only an excuse to get her to where she truly needed to be. He was the last straw,” he responded to Jisung but only spoke in your direction. “Her father didn’t want her to have the company not unless she was married. They all knew that and all took their bets. They fucked with her life and she needed a way in to fuck work theirs. Winwin was her final straw and you,” he said looking at Jisung.
“You were her ticket in,” he said with a satisfied smile.
“She’s been playing you the whole time,” he said taking your glass of water off the table and bringing it to his lips for a sip. Jisung stunned and hurt turned to you hot tears brimming in the corner of his eyes.
“Is this true?” He asked. “Have you just been using me?” He continued.
You sighed. You didn’t even turn to Jisung. You kept your focus on Ten.
“It’s time for you to go,” you said to him. “My maid was just showing you out,” you said watching as your maid appeared at his side. He placed the glass down. “I’ve overstayed my welcome anyway,” he said looking between the two of you.
“Unfuckingbelieveable,” said Wendy who flopped onto the couch. She shut her eyes for a moment. You walked over to Wendy.
“If you don’t mind I need a moment alone with Jisung,” you quietly said to her. She opened her eyes nodding. She stood up “Of course,” she said. You pulled a pass out of your pocket. “Take it to the spa. We may be a while,” you said with a smile. She smiled back taking the pass from your hands and heading to your front door.
You ushered your staff away and they fled as you made your way back to Jisung who still stood at the counter, shocked.
“Y/n-“
“Look I need you to understand that Ten is on a whole new level of asshole. He’s gone completely mad-“
“Is it true?” He asked hurt in his voice. You looked up at him and then away. You nodded your head slight fingers resting on your chin. “Yes and no,” you said with an awkward smile. “In the beginning, I barely knew you, and I used you. But after becoming your friend no. I don’t view you as anything more or less than a friend,” you said feeling a slight sting in your chest at the word “friend”
He nodded wiping a few tears away. “I can’t believe I’m crying,” he said with a sad smile. You gazed up at him. “Why?” You asked. He shook his head.
“If I share all my feelings for you. I won’t be able to help you,” he said. You nodded sitting back at the counter. “Fair enough,” you said watching as he sat beside you.
“So back to Jaehyun,” you said. Jisung wiped a final tear stain away cleaning his throat. “Yes. From what I’ve overheard he’s still head over heels for you,” he said causing you to scoff. You rolled your eyes.
“The nerve,” you said with a shake of your head.
Jisung curious sat back in his chair. “What did Jaehyun ever do to you to make you dislike him so much? I’m sure it’s gotta be something bad if you saved him for the end,” he said with a half smile waiting for your story.
You sighed arms crossing over your chest. “It’s simple really, he cheated on me,” you said with a wave of your hand. “That’s it? I thought, knowing you, it would be crazier,” He commented.
“He cheated on me with our English Professor our first year of college,” you said. “Me, Him, and Johnny are the only ones who know. Of course, now you know as well,” you said. Jisung with wide eyes tilted his head. He clapped his hands pointing in your direction.
“I remember Jaehyun telling us about studying with his professor. We all thought it was a little weird since he only seemed to care about Basketball, partying, and you. But I never would have thought he would have cheated,” he said with a shake of his head.
“Neither did I. But I guess the stress of his father and mine got to him, so he claims,” you said.
"Your father?” He asked. You nodded. “My father liked Jaehyun a lot. He wanted him to marry me and take over. I wasn’t and I’m still not ready for marriage. Jaehyun was willing to marry me but when I said no he didn’t argue. Our parents did though and it caused a bunch of fights and ripped us apart. Soon he cheated and I broke up with him” you said.
You two paused for a moment before you spoke again.
“I think I kept Jaehyun for the end not only because he would cause a lot of damage being that they all worship him and Johnny. But partly because I wasn’t ready to face what happened,” you confessed. Jisung nodded along listening to you.
“When I found out I had to pull it out of Jaehyun. At first, when I saw the message on his phone I assumed it was a girl in his class or a girl he met at a party,” you said gently shaking your head. Your eyes barely meet Jisung’s. “I saw the text and confronted him,” you said.
“What did it say? If you don’t don’t,” he said.
You sighed. “Come over she misses you,” you said annoyance in your tone. Your hand fell on the table with a scoff. “I opened his phone and checked through every message. It had been going on for three months. I looked for anything that would give me her name, anything. Until I saw, out of all their pictures,” you shivered grossly.
“A picture of her face. That’s when I recognized my English professor sending my boyfriend a half-naked selfie in her bedroom,” you said letting out a sigh. You shook your head tongue poking the inside of your mouth. A servant who had remained in the room appeared holding a bottle of liquor. He poured you a glass. He offered one to Jisung as well, and he accepted. When he poured the two glasses he left the bottle. You both thanked and the two of you cheered before you each took a sip.
“What did you do when you found out?” Jisung asked placing his glass back down. You scoffed out a smirk at the memory. “What did I do?” You said in the form of a question. You chuckled lightly.
“I had checked his phone while he was in the shower. So I opened the bathroom door and dragged him out of the shower. I threw his phone at him and didn’t bother to let him explain. He was so confused until he picked up his phone,” you said shaking your head and letting the glass dance in your fingers. You placed it back down your front facing the counter and arms crossed over your chest.
“He got dressed and begged for my forgiveness. I said it’d be the last time he made me look stupid,” you said the last part dropping your smile completely.
“When was the first?” He asked. “When he proposed in front of our families,” you said pausing for a moment.
“Something you have to understand Jisung,” you said turning to him. “Some of these boys I’ve known for a good part of my life. They come from rich and powerful families. They just want to be where mine is at, that’s all. They think I’m some sort of prize to be won. It’s made them obsessed with the idea of me. It’s disgusting,” you spat sipping your drink.
“It’s disrespectful,” he said. You raised your glass to that.
“We should probably get back to the plan. Jaehyun will take me back but not without questions,” you said. Jisung tapped his finger on his chin. “You can try giving him a second chance. Make him think you’ve believed he’s changed and that you’ve forgiven him,” he said. You nodded in return before you spoke.
“That’s good. If he thinks I not only still have feelings for him but have taken the time away from him to forgive and forget then it will work,” you said. You lightly pushed Jisung’s shoulder.
“You are a genius. Kiss your brain,” you said with a smile. Jisung smiled only shaking his head in return with a smug shrug.
———-
It can't be that hard to talk to Jaehyun right?
Wrong.
It was easy when Jaehyun came to you. You’d ignore him or insult him.
But that was him coming up to you.
Going to him would give him some sort of hope.
And you were still nervous to talk about what happened.
What if you hear you did something wrong?
What if deep down you did?
No. This is just you overthinking. It’s just Jaehyun.
You let out a breath. You stood beside a trophy cabinet just outside the hockey team's locker rooms. It was right across the basketball team's lockers. You watched closely waiting for Jaehyun to emerge just after practice. As you waited you saw when Si Cheng left the hockey locker room. You rolled your eyes watching as he and Mark left together.
Mark briefly looked in your direction. When he saw you he stopped letting Si Cheng walk off alone. He came over to you uninvited. You huffed when he reached you.
“What?” You asked. His eyes widened for a moment but then fell. “What did I do?” He asked. You scoffed. “I know what you and Doyoung did,” you said. He felt his heart drop. His eyes were wide and breathing unsteadily. You annoyingly rolled your eyes. “Oh relax I’m not doing anything right now. I’m not here for you,” you said. Mark felt slightly more calm although your “right now” did not go unnoticed. He calmed for a moment.
“Who are you here for? Taeyong? He won’t be here-“
“Ew no. I’m here for Jaehyun,” you responded.
Mark surprisingly looked at you. “Jaehyun?” He asked slight raise in his brow. You eyed him up and down. “Yes,” you said back. “Problem?” You asked looking back at the locker room. Mark shook his head. “No, but he has a girl-“
“Girlfriend? I already took care of that,” you said back rather quickly. Mark at a loss for words shakes off the tension. “Well then I’m sure if you walk right up to him things will work out well,” he said.
“You think so?” You asked. “You won’t know until you try,” he said motioning his hand to Jaehyun who emerged from the locker rooms, finally. You turned away walking towards him.
His back was turned to you, a duffle bag hanging over his shoulder. He was talking to Johnny and Chenle. Johnny hadn’t noticed you but Chenle did. He motioned to Jaehyun with his eyebrows to turn. Jaehyun mid-laugh, confused, turned around. His smile fell when he saw you. Quickly it rose up into a curve.
“Y/n? To what do I owe this pleasure?” He asked turning his whole body to face you. Johnny appeared on his left watching you closely. You looked away from Jaehyun eyeing Johnny. You took Jaehyun’s arm in yours. He let your hand slip through. “Can we talk somewhere private?” You asked eyeing Johnny. Jaehyun looked over at Johnny when he looked back at you, you were already looking at him.
He nodded. “Sure,” he turned from his friends letting you guide him away. You didn’t have to look over your shoulder to feel the glare Johnny was giving you.
The two of you walked down the hallway arm and arm. Everyone around you gasped and gawked. It was the first time in a while the two of you had been spotted together. Once upon a time in this university, you were the couple everyone loved, the couple everyone wanted to be. When you both broke up no one knew why, but they had assumed you had down something wrong. They slowly turned you into the villain. A villain they all loved and hated.
“Here should be good,” you said pointing to a couch by a window. He nodded setting his bag down at his feet. You sat beside him back turned from the large window. Snow fell outside covering the floor completely white. Jaehyun went from looking at your eyes to the snow, then back to you. Remember how much you loved it when it snowed.
“So,” he began.
“So,” you said back awkwardly.
“What did you want to talk about?” He asked his hand falling to rub on his jeans.
You scrunched your lips letting out a sigh. You held eye contact for as long as you could.
“I was talking to Wendy the other day. We were talking about a lot of things that happened in our lives,” you said looking away from him. You played with the hem over your sweater.
“What did you talk about?” He asked eyes still focused on you.
“We talked about life, school, relationships,” you said. You let out a sigh acting as if you were finally biting the bullet. “Then the topic of you came up,” you said looking up at him. He leaned back a little surprised. “Really? How come?” He asked interested in your explanation.
You continued to play with your sweater. A slight shrug as you went to speak. “I thought about everything that happened. What we went through during and after. I’m ready to talk about it. If you want,”
“I do,” he said quickly a hint of desperation in his voice. He sat closer to you, you could smell his fresh scent coming from his body. “I want to talk to you,” he said. “I want to tell you everything even though I know it will hurt. I want you to know what happened Y/n. Because I care about you. I always have,” he said.
You nodded. A part of what he was saying stung a little. Even if you hated from for lying and letting you take the hits for the end of your relationship a part of you deep down wanted this to be real. You had been together since high school. He was your first. You will always love Jaehyun. And he will always love you.
You felt a few years begin to form. You wiped them away with the back of your hand. “Let’s go somewhere a little more private,” you said. He nodded standing up. He lent out his hand for you to take. You accepted it standing up. He took both his duffle bag and your purse. He walked you to your car. He placed your bag inside and opened your car door.
“I brought my car too. I’ll follow behind,” he said. You nodded settling inside. The moment the door closed you let out a breath. You felt your whole body shaking the moment you spoke to him until you sat in the car with the door closed. Your nerves were on overdrive, you had never been so nervous in your entire life. You let out a breath you didn’t even know were holding. You reached for your water bottle drinking, drowning in the water.
When you finally set the bottle down you exhaled again. You looked up at your mirror seeing Jaehyun strapped on his seat belt. You had to relax. You started your car turning to leave the parking lot. Jaehyun followed behind.
You tried to play some music as you drove the twenty minutes from the university to your apartment. Although if you keep calling your home an apartment Jaehyun might get upset. He always reminded you that a penthouse was no apartment, at least not the kind you used to act like it was.
———
You both sat in your living room. The afternoon shifted into the evening. The snow continued to fall over the city. Both you and Jaehyun sat on your couch, two cups of hot chocolate on the coffee table. Your feet rested beside with fuzzy socks covering them. Jaehyun's body was turned to yours both feet on the floor resting on your fluffy white carpet.
He leaned forward picking up his mug and bringing it to his lips. He hummed at the taste setting it back down. He always enjoyed the way your maid, made hot chocolate.
"I think you should go first," he said after setting his mug down. His pleading hopeful eyes looked into yours. You shook your head.
"No, you go. Mine is shorter," you said. "Save it for the end," you said with a warm smile. He didn't protest and instead rubbed his hands on his jeans again. "Okay," he said letting out a breath.
"Before I cheated I had gotten into a fight with your father," he said.
"About what?" you asked.
"About you, us. He wanted me to marry you," he said. "To take the company," you said. He nodded. You scoffed sitting back. You brought your hand to your forehead shaking your head. "All because I'm a girl," you said. But Jaehyun stared at you confused. Unsure of what you were talking about. He shook his head slightly.
"What do you mean?" he asked. You lifted your head up. "He said that he could never have a woman like me running his company," you quoted. Jaehyun chuckled and now you were confused. "I don't think he meant it the way you took it," he said.
"Then what does he mean?" you asked. His chuckle faded a soft smile on his lips. "It means you are too powerful. He was scared," he said. You raised a brow. You scoffed hand touching your chest.
"Too powerful? How is that even bad?" you asked. He shrugged.
"Maybe he was scared of what you could do. He always talked about how smart you are," he said with a fond smile.
"He did?" you asked. Jaehyun nodded surprised you didn't know.
"All the time. If I didn't know him I thought he was trying to convince me to marry you," he said. Your smile slowly fell. "But he didn't have to right?" you asked. He shook his head. "I knew I wanted to marry you once we graduated high school," he confessed.
You almost believed him. You felt your heart began to swell in your chest. You felt the warmth rise in your cheeks and spread throughout your whole body. You pushed the confessions side remembering why he was here and what he did to you.
"Continue what you were saying before," you said ushering him to speak. He silently took your first hit at him. Nodding off and going back to his story.
"Your father wanted me to try and get you to agree. Agree to marry me but I refused to. I knew it wasn't what you wanted. He disagreed. he said the only way for me to get the company was if I married you," he said.
"But why you? What made you so special to him?" you asked. Jaehyun licked his lips and swallowed feeling a burn in his throat. He leaned down grabbing the hot chocolate drinking almost half the mug. Confused you watched as he sat it back down really anticipating his answer if it made him react this way.
"Sorry," he said wiping his mouth. "Anyways, you can't get upset," he said. You laughed, "Upset? Now you have to tell me," you said. But he didn't laugh back. His eyebrows furrowed together nervously. Your laughter died down and instead, you wore a smile. He shifted in his seat rubbing his hands on his jeans again.
"Jaehyun tell me," you said dropping your smile. You shifted closer nudging his shoulder. He sighed looking away from you again with a small shake in his head as he tried to say the words out loud. He decided to just bite the bullet after you asked him again. What can your father do to him now? You are not together anymore.
"He arranged for you to marry Johnny instead. He said if I didn't hurry up and marry you then he'd give everything to him. I knew it was a terrible idea and you would hate him forever if he did that to you, I'd hate him too. I'd also hate myself for letting you go. Even though I did that anyway," he said the last part low his head bowing in disappointment.
Shocking wouldn't be enough to describe how you felt. You felt your heart stop and your brain hurt. Everything was being puzzled together in your brain. The more you thought about it the more your mind became clear. Your head began to pound from all the heavy thinking and conclusions you were coming to.
Jaehyun could see it all over your face. He could see the confusion and the realization at once. The hurt and the pain that formed in your eyes and the disappointment that appeared as well. He frowned wanting to take that away from you. Wanting to relieve the pain in your head and heart after hearing your father was going to betray you then. Jaehyun didn't know the lengths of your pain. He had no idea your father was betraying you now too.
You looked around your living snapping out of your thoughts. You rushed up onto your feet heading for your purse. You stood up too quickly hitting the coffee table and slipping your hot chocolate. Jaehyun quickly picked up the mug but the servants ushered him away cleaning the mess instead.
"Y/n!" he called to you. You were slipping on your boots. Still dressed in this afternoon's clothes you rushed to put on your coat. "Y/n where are you going?" he asked seeing you zip up your jacket. You didn't respond just continued getting ready to go. Jaehyun wasted no time putting on his coat as well. You looked over to your maid.
"Get the car ready. Tell the chauffeur to meet me outside. Let him know I'm going to NCIT Tech" you said. She nodded running off the phone in her hand. Jaehun still confused followed you out.
"Y/n tell me what's going on? I thought you wanted to talk," he said. You huffed stepping into the elevator. "I need to see my father," you said tapping your foot quickly on the ground. "Now?" he asked surprised. You turned your head eyeing him.
"If your mother tried to marry you off to the person you hate. You'd want answers too," you said. Jaehyun didn't argue back.
"Can we at least talk in the car?" he asked. The chauffeur waited outside the car but Jaehyun opened the door for you. The chauffeur stood back and walked over to sit in the driver's seat instead. Jaehyun sat beside you. Once both car doors closed you nodded.
"It's about a thirty-minute drive, explain," you said.
The chauffeur started the car leaving the penthouse and down the busy street.
"Explain where you left off," you said. Jaehyun nodded exhaling cool air leaving his lips. "I argued against it. He eventually came around saying if I left then you would find someone else to be with and hopefully marry them instead," he said. You nodded listening to him.
"I didn't want to do that either. I tried once but I couldn't go through with it," he said. "When?" you asked. "The beginning of summer before we went to France," he confessed. You widened your eyes.
"You were gonna dump me before France?" you asked. He shook his head. "I tried to but couldn't," he said. You huffed rolling your eyes.
"I would have taken that over what you actually did," you said. Jaehyun felt the sting in his chest. But now he had the time to confess everything to you. He wouldn't mess this up, he couldn't. he couldn't risk losing you again.
"You know if losing me hurt so bad why did you cheat?" you asked.
He sighed. "I can't come up with an excuse because there are none. I got close to our professor as I purposely drifted away from you. I thought if I disant myself you'd leave me," he confessed. You scoffed.
"So what I'd be the bad guy? If I broke up with you so many people outside of school would hate me, more than already do. You would have given them an even bigger reason to hate me. They'd talk about how "I left such a good man," you shook your head. The sides of your fingers brush over your lips.
"They would never believe me. Only you," you said becoming frustrated with just the idea of what would happen to you. Your world was not too different from the rest of the world. Women achieving or accomplishing anything would always be asked if they had the help of a man to reach this level of success.
Your father was a very intelligent man who knew how this world worked. He knew even though he held the power to control everything and everyone that the society you were a part of would never let you breathe if they knew, his only child, his daughter had the company.
You had already heard at dinner parties and charity events you attended. "I'm sure she will marry someone who will be perfectly suited for the company,"
"Surely you aren't letting Y/n take over. She is too emotional. The company would fail,"
Your whole life you heard these things. How imperfect you are for business. People loved gossiping about you. They loved the stories they heard, they all loved to hate you. Every member of the upper-class society's children attended the university they went to. Sure some were there on scholarships, but they meant nothing to the students who attended school on their parent's money. You went to high school with most of these people. There was escaping the image they had created for you.
So you gave them stories to tell.
You were the girl who drank and partied. You went to clubs in the city as an underage girl hanging out with a group of girls who deep down hated you because they envied you. People wanted nothing to do with you. Which is why your father needed you to marry. Marriage would be seen as you become humble. Becoming a better person and a better fit in society. But you refused which is why Jaehyun was pushed away so far.
But when gossip broke out that you were on the market it became impossible to date again. Every man wanted the future they could have with you, some even becoming obsessed with the idea that they believed they loved you. It's why men sniffed your underwear or stole your perfume to lie to their friends about sleeping with you.
You were the ticket to a wealthy and successful life. A life their parents would be proud of. A man their fathers respected.
Jaehyun was just like the rest of them. He was kind, yes, but it doesn't take away from the fact he lied and betrayed you. He made you believe he cared about you and the future you two had together. You even thought to yourself that one day you could, when you were ready, marry this man.
That he was the love of your life. He was the only man you ever loved out of all the boyfriends you've ever had. Jaehyun was your first, and from what you had always believed, he'd be your last.
He nodded, "I know. That's why I left my phone unlocked. I wanted you to find it and read the texts. See my faults so I couldn't deny them," he said desperately trying to make you understand. Your head was turned away from his but his entire body was facing you.
He silently begged for you to look at him. His eyes pleading wish you'd believe him and trust that your only feeling towards him was anger. He could take you being angry and upset with him. He would even rather you hate him than be disappointed in him.
You let out a shaky breath. You fiddled with the hem of your sweater. You knew there was only one way to break his heart. Destroy him into pieces. One thing you could not deny was that Jaehyun was in love with you. Even if he messed up. Even if he left you heartbroken standing in your bedroom cold and full of tears. You knew there was denying his love for you.
And sleeping with him was not the way to hurt him.
You turned your head only slightly. Now was too soon. Jaehyun would prove to be useful in the upcoming days. You knew you needed Jaehyun on your side and you knew exactly how to do it.
"Jaehyun I need to tell you something," you said a shudder in your voice. Jaehyun nods scouting closer to you. "Anything," he said breathlessly. You felt tears rolling down your cheek. Why were you crying? It was supposed to be easy. Jaehyun was supposed to be the easiest one. So why? Why did it hurt so much to speak to him, to even look at him? Why did it crush you deep in your heart? After all, he betrayed you.
He lied to you that night you discovered his text whether you were meant to or not. You found them dragged him out of the bathroom and threw his phone at him. You remember every detail of that night. You remember seeing his phone light up. You remember getting an awful feeling in your stomach, a feeling Jaehyun had never given you before. Your gut was screaming at you to check his phone. Your brain agrees.
But you were secure in your relationship. Jaehyun unlike a few ex's in your life had never made you feel insecure. He made you feel confident and beautiful, smart and appreciated. Watching snow fall outside reminded you of Jaehyun because of the Christmas you spent together outside of the party his mother hosted building snowmen in the park fully dressed in suits and gowns. The same man whose ears turned bright red the first time he ever saw you during freshman year of high school.
Jaehyun the man who loved you gave you the worst feeling in the dippest pit of your stomach. You check his phone and remember your shakey hand reaching to cover your mouth. The way the texts became blurry because tears clouded your vision. The pain you felt in your chest and stomach once the phone dropped onto the bed. You remembered the sadness quickly turning into anger.
The bed creaked when you rose. You ran to the bathroom door swinging it open. You pulled back the shower wall breaking the glass from how hard you yanked it open. Jaehyun's face was far from being confused. He was shocked, but it felt like he knew. When you think of it again his face, he knew he got caught without even saying it.
You remember all the anger turning into the rage. Having enough strength to drag him out of the shower. You threw him on the ground. He stood up quickly and you grabbed his phone throwing it at him. You cried as you spoke, and yelled. Your face was hot and burning with tears. You cursed at him as he rose to his feet a hunch in his back. A hunch of shame and self-disappointment.
You wasted no time in kicking him out. Only allowing him to leave with the clothes he put on and his phone. Everything else you had donated or destroyed, and he did not stop you.
If you felt this way about him.
Then how would he feel if he knew you almost fucked Johnny?
But after all this time. Even being who you were before Jaehyun and after, why was this still the hardest thing to do?
Was it because you loved him too? Or deep down you knew this could ruin everything. The only way to find out is to tell him.
"When I broke up with you I was angry. I wanted to find a way to hurt you, the way you hurt me. So I went to a party at the Frat. I was sad and drinking, I found myself outside just looking at the lights from the buildings," you paused for a moment. "Then Johnny came out. Johnny and I never get along, ever. But this night it felt like he heard me. It felt like he saw what I was going through, and instead of using it against me. He talked to me, gave me advice and a choice," you said.
Jaehyun raised a brow. "Choice?" he asked. You licked your lips sitting up a little more. "I should have known then it was for his own selfish needs," you said with a shake of your head. "It's crazy, it's hard to say. This whole time I've been trying to keep you forming finding out. Yet here I am telling you," you said with a small smile.
"Tell me what?" he asked.
"Johnny suggested we'd have sex. That he'd let you overhear him bragging about it. I agreed knowing it would hurt you. We didn't make it very far before I noticed the camera they'd hidden," you said.
"They?" Jaehyun asked clenching his jaw. You looked down seeing his hands ball up into a fist. His knuckles turn red. He let out a huff as he pictured everything in his mind he'd do to Johnny. "Mark and Doyoung set up the camera," you confessed. Jaehyun nearly almost lost it. He only composed himself because he was with you.
He saw red. His eyes looked everywhere else but yours. He wanted to kill him, them. All of them for hurting you.
"Is that what they were talking about when Johnny said he had a surprise for us?" he asked putting every piece together. "It was around the time we were trying again. I saw you dancing with another girl and it set every feeling I had off," you confessed.
Jaehyun scoffed covering his mouth and legs shaking. He shook his head in disbelief. "Driver," he said. He peered his head over his shoulder. "Stop the car," he said. You felt your heart skip a beat and pinch in your stomach. You were scared he was angry at you. "Jaehyun?" you called feeling when the car stopped on the side of the street. Jaehyun let out a sigh.
He finally looked you in your eyes. "Look I want you to know I'm not angry with you. I'm hurt that you went to Johnny of all people but I'm not angry with you. I understand why you did what you did. I have no reason to hate you for it either. I just need a moment to take care of something," he said taking off his seatbelt. He pushed the car door open stepping out. He looked at you one last time before saying.
"Good luck with your father. I'll see you later," he said then closed the door. The driver started again with only you in the back seat of the car.
You turned away from the seat Jaehyun sat in and faced the back of the driver's seat instead. After some time you turned to the window instead. The driver glanced at you from the mirror above. He reached down and turned on the low radio, then continued his drive. You kept your focus on the buildings and city lights.
You didn't even notice when the driver pulled up into the parking lot of your father's building. Quiet only with your thoughts playing loud in your head. The noise stopped once the car door opened. The driver standing holding your car door open glanced at you again.
"Miss Y/L are you alright?" he asked. You snapped out of your thoughts. You blinked a few times snapping your head to him. You nodded while looking up at him. "Yes I'm fine," you said trying to exit the car but was pulled back by your seatbelt. You shook your head reaching over to undo your seatbelt. Embarrassed you unclipped the seatbelt and then quickly left the car.
You walked into the elevator of the parking lot. Your arms crossed over your chest trying to shake Jaehyun from your mind. If you could only think about Jaehyun how could you confront your father? You tried to think of everything else Jaehyun said. How he was not mad at you and understood your reasoning.
You just had to forget everything and remember why you came here. Your father lied to you about Johnny. He arranged for you to married.
You marched down the lobby the minute the elevator dinged. People stole glances seeing you walk in. Stopping their conversations just to watch you. They wondered why you came here. Why did you look so upset? Are you fighting with your father? They all changed topics and began gossiping about you instead.
"The CEO's daughter is here, look," someone said to a coworker next to them. They turned to look at you with wide eyes. She pulled out her phone and snapped a photo of you walking down the hall.
"Do you think she's here for business? heard she might get the company," one guy said to another who sat beside him. Both of them watching you. The other shook his head. "No look at her clothes," he said pointing to your outfit. "She's wearing jeans and a sweater. Daddy's money probably ran out and she needs it quick," he joked to his friend the two laughing together.
You ignored what they said and focused on reaching your father. You stepped into another white elevator feeling your body lift as the elevator rose. You watched as it went higher, the numbers increasingly getting bigger until you hit the one-hundredth twenty-seventh floor. Once the elevator dinged you stepped out alone. Everyone else had gotten off between floors fifty-five and sixty.
You entered the lit hallway alone. Your father was modern with his design. The hallways were white and bright. Simple art pieces hanging on the wall that cost millions of dollars. Black statues were placed in a waiting area where a green marble receptionist's desk sat. A few leather couches and a marble coffee table were placed near a grand window overlooking the city. The kind of window that made people look like ants.
There weren't many offices up here. Not even your father's assistant had an office up here. The only office up here was, the co-owner of the company and the much larger office to the back belonging to your father.
Two security men stood outside his office door. They instantly recognized you as you approached the door but still didn't let you pass. You walked up to both of them and they stared you down with stern expressions on their faces. Their biceps flexed under their shirts when they held their arms crossed over their chest. They stood tall over you eyeing your frame.
You looked up at them eyes flicking between both.
"Let me through I need to see my father," you said going to reach the door. They both moved closer to the door blocking the handle. They shook their heads.
"I'm sorry Ms Y/L we can't let you through," one said. He was bald and wore a scar on his bottom lip. Confused you raised a brow your cheek slightly lifting. "Why?" you asked. The other spoke body still facing the front. He only slightly leaned over to talk to you.
"He's in a meeting and wants no interruptions," he said.
"And that includes you," the other said sternly commenting on your habit of bursting into your father's office even if he has a meeting going on. This time the guards being here and not letting you in gave you a bad feeling. Normally they'd let you walk in. But today they were stubborn. It left you with a bad taste in your mouth. You felt like your father was hiding something, hiding something from you.
"Fine," you said with a sigh. You let out a shrug. "I'll just wait," you said walking off and into the small lobby where the receptionist Samantha sat. She sighed seeing you walk back in. She put down her book and picked up her phone dialing a number.
"What happened this time?" she asked. You sighed flopping onto the black leather couch. "He won't let me in," you said staring up at the ceiling. She sighed bringing the phone to her ear. "I'll let him know you're here," she said. She tapped her finger on the desk waiting for your father to respond. You didn't bother getting hopefully. This wasn't the first time you showed up and had to wait to see him. It had been this way your whole life. This why you burst into his meetings, you got tired of waiting. This would not be different.
"Hi yes sir your daughter is here to see you," she said waiting for him to respond. "Are you sure? It seems urgent," she said glancing at your frame hung over the couch pout on your lips as you counted the cracks in the ceiling. "Yeah sure is," she said again. "Five minutes? Okay, I'll let her know," she said with a smile. Your ears perked up and you turned to her.
She dropped her smile and placed the phone back down. "What did he say?" you asked looking in her direction. She sighed opening her book again and flipping through the pages to where she left off. "He said he has a client in there but he'll be ready I'm five minutes," she said. You huffed and turned back to the ceiling. She sighed with a shake of her head placing her book down.
"What's wrong?" she asked annoyed you disturbed her time to read.
"I won't see him in five minutes," you responded. "Yeah?" she raised her brow. "How do you know that?" she asked.
"Because he does this every time," you said fingers dancing on your cheek bored. She sighed shaking her head. She had known you since you were a little girl. You used to come here and run around the long hallways and leave a mess of toys all over the coffee table. She'd watch you while your father worked and your mother was away on a business trip. You always helped put your toys away when it was time to go. She took care of you like you were her own.
She knew you well. She knew you well enough to know that right now you were not being dramatic. Your father's meetings always ran long. She also knows you are not here for money. You never came to see him for money. It was always to just get his attention. But this time it felt different. Your presence was random.
When you showed up abruptly like this it demanded his attention. Usually, it worked too. You would bust right in guards and all. This time you didn't put up a fight. You just sat there quietly, which was also alarming since you always talked her ear off. She couldn't help but ask.
"How come you've come to see your father today?" she asked watching you. You sat up slightly but your feet still hung over the arm of the long couch. Your hands rested on your stomach. "My father has been lying to me about a certain man who I can't seem to get rid of. I just found out he arranged for me to be married to him and the very idea of it makes me sick," you said becoming frustrated the more you said it out loud.
"That's terrible," she said. Samantha normally didn't feel bad for you. You were a spoiled rich girl who lived in a luxury apartment. But there were times when she did, this was one of those times. No matter who you are you should be forced to do anything you don't want to do.
"So what do you plan on telling him when you get into his office?" she asked. You shrugged, "I don't know. I haven't thought of anything yet," you said. You nodded putting her book away. Clearly, this would take more than a short and simple piece of advice to help you.
"Tell me what happened. Then will figure it out," she said. You sat up more facing her. "From the beginning?" you asked. She shook her head rolling her eyes. "No, I want you to tell me everything from the end," she said. You sucked your teeth looking away. You pursed your lips eyeing her.
"Well tell me you nut!" she said from behind her desk. You huffed but cleared your throat and told her everything.
"So I just need two more of them off the list and I'm done for good," you finished saying. Samantha let out a breath. She didn't know just how lengthy your story was going to go.
"And that Jisung boy is helping you?" she asked. You nodded, "Yup," you answered. "And he's friends with him?" she asked to clarify. You nodded again. "Yes," you said.
"And you like him?"
"Yes- hey," you said sitting up more. She chuckled seeing your reaction. "I knew it. You can try and sit here and tell me you had 'feelings' for Jaehyun in that car but we both know at the end of all of this you're gonna try and be with Jisung," she said reading you your rights. You had nothing to say back. The girl who was never quiet was silenced.
"Also," she said snapping her fingers to get your attention. You blinked a few times but came back to reality. She motioned to the door. "That boy you were talking about Johnny. He's in there with your father right now," She said. You almost fell off the couch trying to stand up. Once you stood upright and balanced you made your way to her desk.
"What?" you asked. "Tall, slim, handsome with good style. He walked into that office with your father thirty minutes ago," she said. "How long have I been telling the story?" you asked. She looked up at the clock seeing an hour gone back. Both of you widened your eyes and she clicked a bottom under her desk. Both security guards headed down the hallway. She motioned you to go and you did. You ran past them reaching your father's door. Both men turned to come after you but you opened the office door locking it behind you.
You stumbled in and saw your father with a cup of tea in his hand laughing alongside Johnny. You fixed yourself before their notice. You stepped further in Johnny seeing your first.
"Oh Y/n," he said catching your father's attention. Your father turned around with a smile on his lips. He set his tea down and walked over to you. "What a nice surprise," he said setting his tea down next to your fathers.
You hugged your father. Johnny took your hand in his and kindly placed a kiss on it. He took in the scent of your perfume briefly shutting his eyes before letting you go. You pulled your hand back turning back to your father. "I need to speak with you father," you said to him. Johnny remained in the room. "Alone," you said. Johnny nodded to a man coming up behind him and placed a coat on his back.
"Johnny you don't have to leave," he said with a smile. He turned back to you, "Y/n do not be rude," he said sternly. He turned back to Johnny who shook his head. "No no, it's fine. I've overstayed my welcome," he said motioning his hand. "Are you sure?" your father asked and you gagged. Johnny nodded, "Truly it's fine and besides," he said coat now fully on. "Your daughter is far more important," he said with a smile as he glanced at you.
"We'll catch up later," he said shaking your father's hand. He walked over to you and politely placed a kiss on your cheek just like he always did in front of your father. "See you later Y/n," he said with a wink. You sent him a sarcastic smile watching as he walked out of the room. Once you heard the door click you turned to your father. Your father turning to you as well.
"What is it?" he asked walking to his desk. He sat down behind it and you sat in front of it.
"It's about school-"
"I already paid your tuition-"
"No," you said shaking your head. He sighed placing his hands down on his desk. "Then what is it?" he asked. You let out a sigh looking away from him. "Y/n?" he asked searching for your face. You felt tears form in your eyes. Here you were sitting in front of your father getting ready to tell him what was going on. It was so much harder to tell than Jaehyun. At least you knew Jaehyun had done wrong, he couldn't judge you. You also didn't tell him the entire story. You only spoke of your past.
But you knew it was time. It was time to tell your dad what was going on at school.
"Y/n?" he called again when he heard you sob. He reached over the desk but you moved away. He let his hand fall not reaching out to touch you again since you refused. "Y/n you have to tell me what's going on. I'm worried about you," he said begging for you to speak.
"What do you want? Money?" he asked.
"No. I don't want your money," you spat back. Slightly taken back he felt a pinch in his chest. He sat back in his chair eyes still focused on you. "Then what do you want?" he asked.
You barely looked at him. "For you to listen," you said. He nodded, "I'm all ears," he said.
"Johnny and his friends have been harassing me for years," you confessed. Your father shook his head. "There's no way," he said. You scoffed finally looking up at him. Your rising anger giving you strength. "No way? How are you gonna tell me there's no way when you're a part of that problem?" you asked your face and body quickly becoming hot. He gushed shaking his head. "This is nonsense. This is just you looking for attention again-"
"It's not," you said, begging for him to hear you. "I know about the arranged marriage," you said. He shook his head. "That's not harassment," he fought back. You sat back eyes widening and heart pumping. You felt multiple stings in your chest. "You really don't believe me?" you asked. Your father didn't respond he just sighed. You nodded, "Okay," you said standing up.
You dug into your bag pulling out a flash drive. You held it in front of him. "This is the only one left," you said handing it to him. He didn't bother taking it from your hands. So you placed it on his desk. You also pulled out the crumbled loose-leaf paper from your bag. You threw it onto his desk as well.
"After you watch this because I know you will. Don't come looking to help me. I've already got it covered," you said as you turned your back.
"So why did you come?" he asked looking down at the flash drive.
"Because when everything finally explodes at least you could have said you heard it from me. I'm done wasting my life trying to get your attention," you said back still facing him. You grabbed your purse to leave but your father stopped you flash drive in his hand.
"What is on this?" he asked. You got close to him, "You'll see," you said. You ripped your arm away from him. You began to walk away but you turned around facing him again.
"Also, I don't want your company anymore. You can keep it, moms is better anyways," you said as you walked out. Your father wasn't too stunned. He assumed once again this was just you trying to get his attention. He loved you in his own way, he just didn't have time to show it. He eyed the flash drive and then threw it in the trash.
You left the building stepping outside. Your driver waiting for you standing outside the car rocking side to side from the cold air. Your driver opened the door revealing Jaehyun. You were surprised to see him but sat beside him. What surprised you even more was Jisung sitting beside him.
The driver started the car. "Jaehyun what is going on?" you asked.
"He knows," Jisung said. You turned to him still shocked. Your heart skipped a beat at his words. "What? Jisung you-" you began but Jaehyun cut you off.
"It's okay. I'm not upset," he said. You turned to him. "You not?" you asked you feared getting caught and then him being upset more than anything. He shook his head. "No," he began.
"I want to help," he said as the driver took off to your apartment.
A few short hours later your father sat in his office tapping his fingers on his desk waiting for your call but it never came. He huffed and sighed, constantly checking his watch but he was confronted with nothing. His eyes also every so often glanced at the trash can. It was like an itch he refused to scratch. His leg bounced in his seat. Now he was eyeing the trash can.
With a frustrated huff, he stood up walking to the trash can. He moved a few pieces of paper out of the way and took out the small flash drive.
"It can't be that bad," he said walking back to his computer and pushing it in. He waited for it to start. All he saw was black until someone grabbed the camera. Doyoung held the camera in his hands adjusting it. He could see him place a sweater slightly covering it. But it wasn't fully blocked, you could still see a clear view of the empty bed in the middle of the room.
He felt a weird feeling in his stomach as he continued to watch. He told himself this was where he'd click off but couldn't bring his fingers to do it. Instead, he watched paying more attention as seconds went by.
He heard a voice in the back ask. "Is it set up good?" he heard another chuckle. "Yeah look," it was Doyoung pointing to the camera. Mark's face came into view searching for the camera. He finally found it smiling and nodding off at how well it was hidden.
"Awesome Johnny's gonna be so proud," he said. Doyoung nodded agreeing, "Hurry let's go before they come. Johnny will be pissed if we're here," the two leave the frame opening and then closing the door. From what he can see there's a partying happening inside the house. He could hear the muffled music through the screen.
He waited for a moment for something to happen. He skipped a few seconds and still nothing. He only perked up a little bit when Jaehyun came into view but he came in alone. He looked around the room checking a few draws until he found the weed he was looking for. Soon Jaemin appeared holding the door open and standing outside.
"Did you find it? I won't reimburse you," he joked causing Jaehyun to smile shaking his head. "Nah I left it in here. I found it though," he said closing the draw and leaving the room.
After that, nothing happened. He skipped a few more seconds and was ready to give up until he heard a familiar sound. He picked his head up hearing the sound of your voice.
"In here?" he heard you ask. You were holding onto Johnny's hand. It looked like you were using him to balance. You stumbled in tripping over something and landing on Johnny. You both chuckled and Johnny placed you on the bed next to you.
"Yeah, why not? He'll be pissed," he said leaning down seemingly to kiss you. You paused putting a finger to his lips. You looked him dead in the eyes. "Jaehyun can never know," you said and then began laughing. Johnny chuckled watching you fall back on the bed.
"This bed is so comfy," you said hugging yourself. Johnny chuckled again leaning down and placing a kiss on your lips. You kissed back with an open mouth wet drunk kiss. Your father cringed at the sight but didn't look away.
He was angry already about the fact that you were being filmed without knowing but what set him off completely was when he watched Johnny look over after removing his shirt and leaving you completely bare in front of him, He looked into the camera and smiled.
You followed his line of sight seeing the red dot. You instantly got up pushing Johnny away. You quickly got dressed and ran out of the room.
Livid your father ripped the flash drive out jumping out of his seat and to his office door. He ripped it open and his security followed him all the way to his car. He handed the flash drive to one of the security men. "Destroy this and if I find out you watched it I'll kill you," he said. The security confused threw it on the ground and stepped on it crushing it.
"Where are you going?" The driver asked. "Shall I take you home?" he asked seeing your father wearing an emotion he couldn't even explain. A mix of anger and fear is the best he could describe.
"Take me to the Suh residents. I need to speak with his father," he said to his driver.
The driver widens his eyes. "Sir that's all the way in Chicago and you not even packed to attend-"
"I said take me to the Suh residents. What more do I need to explain?" he asked annoyed the driver questioned him. The driver taking the hint turns away starting the car. He let out a sigh taking your father straight to the airport.
"I don't understand. You really did all of this?" Jaehyun asked you. Jisung sat beside him on the island. You stood behind handing them both hot cups of coffee. You placed your mug in front of you. Stirring it with a spoon. You nodded looking up from your cup.
"Yup. This whole time it's what I've been doing. Jisung has been helping me the whole time," you said motioning to Jisung. He nodded turning from you to Jaehyun. "It's true," he said catching Jaehyun's attention.
"Why?" he asked. Jisung sighed. "Since I moved in with you guys you all treated me like I was beneath you. Worst than beneath you. You treat me like I'm not even there and when one of you finally sees me it's just to use me as a punching bag. My problems with you all are far less great than hers, but she proposed a good plan," he confessed. Jaehyun raised a brow.
"She went to you?" he asked. You nodded. "May be a shock to you that I came up with a plan like this but it's true. Everything was my idea," you said.
"Why is it hard to believe?" Jisung asked. "Because in our world," Jaehyun began. "Y/n isn't exactly known for well-thought and executed plans. She's not even known for planning she usually just says and does whatever she pleases. She's always been that way," he said looking Jisung to you.
"It's why I fell in love with her," he said with a small smile. You widened your eyes taken back by his confession. You placed your mug down and scoffed out an awkward smile flipping between both Jisung and Jaehyun. Jisung was just as surprised wide eyes looking at you. You took a few steps back walking from around the counter.
"I just remembered I have some pastries that would go very well with our coffee. Jisung would you like to come with me to get them?" you asked him. He quickly rose to his feet with a nod. He followed beside you as you walked into the large pantry. "Jaehyun feel free to use the TV," you said as you lightly pushed Jisung into the other room.
"Oh my," You said turning and facing a wall of snacks. "I can not believe he just said that," You said with a scoff. You shook your head turning to face Jisung. Jisung stood there eyeing a few cupcakes that sat on a shelf in a white box. You walked over to him seeing he wasn't responding.
"Are you okay?" you asked.
He sighed. "I spoke with Jaehyun while you took a shower and changed," he said. You stepped closer. "What did he say?" you felt yourself becoming nervous by how slow he talked. And at the very idea they talked about you.
"He said that he saw he had a chance with you. That the two of you were talking for a while earlier and he assumed it was because you wanted to try again," he said barely looking at you. He played with the cardboard of the cupcake box. He let out a sigh. "Are you?" he asked.
"Thinking of getting back with him? No. I mean we talked and it went well but no. Not after what he did, I'm not a fool," you said staring at the back of Jisung's head. He let go of the box with a nod.
"Can I ask you something?" you asked seeing him move on to another snack in the pantry. "Yeah," he said picking up a pink box with a sparkly label. "Even if I did get with Jaehyun. Would you care?" you asked.
"Y/n why are you asking me this? I thought I was only your friend like you said before," he said letting out a huff. He placed the pink box down still refusing to turn to you. You shook your head stepping closer to him just inches from his back. You wanted to reach out and touch him but you were scared. Scared he'd push you away.
"Jisung," you called. But he shook his head. "I mean why? I thought once this was over we'd never speak again. You made it clear in the beginning I was nothing but your partner," he said becoming more and more frustrated as he voiced his thoughts.
"Jisung I-"
"Jaehyun is waiting. We have to finish this," he said walking towards the door. He pulled it open to leave but you appeared behind him shutting the door closed. He stopped, his chest rising up and down, his eyes trained on the doorknob. "Why?" he asked restless. You were so close you could smell him. You shut your eyes for a moment. You let out steady breaths.
You felt the jump in your heart. Your eyes shoot open. You grabbed onto his shoulder spinning him around. You reached up grabbing hold of the collar of his sweater. He didn't move his eyes just found yours. His lips parted but he didn't speak. He flashed from your eyes to your lips and back to your eyes that were already focused on him.
From this close, he could smell your intoxicating perfume. He recalled only hearing stories. How soft your lips felt. He thought about the time you first asked him to spend the night the day you two became partners. How you almost kissed him then.
He wasn't a fool. He knew then you were just trying to secure him as your number two. Then he thought about the time in your closet. His feelings for you have grown. He thought and still thinks about you every day and night. When you didn't talk to him, it broke his heart.
He couldn't kiss you then when a part of him doubted your trust. But the only thing stopping him now was his fear of getting you caught.
"Y/n we can't-" he tried to say but you shook your head. You pulled him closer to you. "What's stopping us? Who cares if he's outside? He means nothing to me, you do," you said tugging him into you. Your lips meeting his. You pulled him closer to your frame. Fist still holding onto his collar.
Jisung pressed his lips against yours. Relaxing under your touch. He finally gave in. The softness of your lips and the shape formed right with his. It felt like the two of you were made to kiss one another. He hunched over just to reach your lips. His tall frame holding you against him. Slender veiny hands slid and held the back of your neck pulling you closer to him as your tongues battled for dominance.
He felt himself being careful with you. He knew you'd hate him if he treated you like a delicate flower. He let his hands travel, following the outline of your curves and placing his hand on your waist. Gripping onto the flesh and pulling you closer to him he stepped closer to one of the shelves.
He leaned you against it holding onto you. Your hands reached up gripping onto his dark hair. Your legs were lifting off the ground between being pressed against Jisung's large frame and the shelf you lifted your legs up fully, wrapped them around Jisung. He held onto you tightly still feeling up your curves.
He groaned into your lips when he felt you press against him. You could feel through your silk lilac pants Jisung's hardening cock. He could feel right where he was pressed against. Your hands gripped onto his waist pulling him closer to you. Pressing him right onto your clothed pussy. Jisung stumbled knees buckling at the feeling of your warm cunt underneath your pants.
He went to back up at the feeling but you reeled him back. Pulling him against you. He let go of your lips trying to catch his breath. His forehead pressed against your chest rising up and down. You motioned his actions your eyes looking up into his.
"Y/n I want to. I really want to but Jaehyun is right outside," he said letting out another deep breath. You pulled him close to again watching closely at his reaction. His body shuddered, his eyes fluttering closed and his head falling back. His lips parted another groan escaping his lips. You smirked a giggle leaving your lips.
"So let's kick him out," you said with a smile nudging his arm. Your hands slid up and down his frame feeling the muscles in his back and arms. He chuckled nodding his head eyes closing for a brief moment. His head still leaning down looking into your eyes. You leaned up inches away from his pink lips. You could feel his faint breaths on your face.
"Look," you said with a dazed expression, grabbing hold of his hand. You guided it from the grip he still had on your waist bringing it to your lower stomach. You unwrapped your legs from him standing with both feet flat on the ground. You slightly spread your legs apart and Jisung let you guide his hand. He watched intensely as you guided his hand in yours. You brought it to the waistband of your silky pants.
You slipped his hands past the band and let him touch you. He shuddered letting out an earthy groan. He cupped your pussy in his cool hand. His fingers feel around your folds with your control. "I'm not wearing panties," you whispered hovering over his lips. You slowly let go of his hand slipping it from your pants and letting him explore the flaps and outlines of your pussy.
He brought his fingers down to your tight hole. Feeling how warm and wet you were. He coaxed his fingers into your stickiness covering his veiny digits. He brought his fingers to your clit slowly rubbing circles over the bud. You let out a small moan looking into his eyes. Your jaw falls letting more small noises escape your lips. Jisung stomped forward pressing you against the shelf and speeding up his fingers.
He watched closely at your face. Your lips parted and eyebrows that knotted together. How your eyes remained half open. He couldn't help himself. Leaning down and passionately placing his lips on yours. He brother his fingers from your clit and closer to your hole. Teasing your entrance he circled the tight hole. "Jisung please," you begged against his lips. He swiftly slid his finger into your hole pushing in and out. How could he say no to you? He thought.
He slid a second finger into you. Fucking his longer fingers into you. He speeds up his pace. You broke away from his lips head falling back. Jisung held you in place fucking you good and hard with his fingers. He felt your wetness squish around his quick fingers. Your juice slipping out onto the rest of his hand.
"Fuck ji I'm so close," you moaned eyes squeezing shut. His lips parted focused on making you feel so good. All he wanted to do now was please you. "Cum on my fingers," he said through breaths. He quicked his pace biceps flexing. You held onto his arm squeezing onto his skin. You let out an earthy moan not caring if Jaehyun heard from the outside.
Jisung brought his other hand around your neck pulling you into a kiss. He could feel your fingers tighten around him. "Cum baby," his deep voice said against your lips. Your head fell back your cum dripping down his fingers. He slowly pulled his fingers out of you. Slipping them out of your pants. He stared down at his glistening fingers. He lifted them to his lips opening his mouth and moaning at the taste of you.
Your legs stumbled once you finally opened your eyes and tried to grab a paper towel. You let out a breathy chuckle followed by Jisung who caught you. He placed you back where you grabbed the paper himself he handed it to you.
"I'd clean you myself but right now I don't think I'd be able to control myself," he confessed with an apologetic smile. You cleaned yourself with a smirk. You threw away the tissue in the trash can nearby. "Yeah? Why is that?" you asked walking up to him. He smiled lips hovering over yours.
"Because if you let me clean you I won't be using a tissue," he said. You felt your cheeks heat up by his words. Never ever would you believe Jisung would speak so dirty to you. You couldn't wipe the smile off your face as you spoke.
"Next time I'll let you clean me," you said. He nodded with a smile matching yours and leaned down placing a gentle kiss on your burning lips.
The two of you walked out only to be confronted with Jaehyun standing right behind the door. His jaw clenched and fist balled. He let out a huff seeing the two of you.
You felt Jisung stiffen up but you didn't flinch.
"I told you I loved you," Jaehyun said dropping his act. A sad expression washed across his face. He shook his head looking down at his fists and letting them fall. He looked back into your eyes.
"What happened?" he asked a crack in his voice.
"What happened?" you asked back raising a brow. "What happened is you thought by telling me you loved me I'd take you back. Forgive you for what you did and what you've done to me and my friends. You hurt me Jaehyun. You broke my heart. And me not talking to you or getting angry at you, that did break your heart," you said with a small shake of your head. Years of frustration bubbling in the pit of your stomach and finally reaching the surface.
"You are my past love and that's what you'll always be. My first," you said. "So not having me isn't what hurts you. It's seeing me with someone else. It's seeing me happy without you," you said grabbing onto Jisung's hand. Jaehyun watched your hand mold into his. Jisung holding onto you. He looked over at you lovingly as you spoke.
"It's knowing I don't need you and never did," you said to him confidently watching as he looked away. "And that," you said looking away from your hand that held Jisung's to Jaehyun's eyes.
"That breaks your heart," you said to him. He frowned whipping his head away. He made his way to your front door walking past a few servants.
"Do you think he'll talk to Johnny?" Jisung asked watching him leave. The two of you walked into your living room. Watching as the door closed.
"I hope he tells him every word," you said with a proud smile on your face. You turned to Jisung.
"All I have left is Taeyong," you said. "Based on the chaos that's happened in that house. He should be easy," he said.

I hope you enjoyed this part 9 of my 10-part series. We're so close to the end guys. I really got into writing this part. I think I might even add a part 11 because I'm really enjoying writing the series. I actually kept a scene in that I was not going. It was the scene between Y/n and Jisung but I figured it added to their growing relationship and I know some of you have been asking for some Y/n and Jisung moments so that was my gift to you.
I can't wait to show you guys the ending lol.
See you soon :)

Work of Art [J.JH] - epilogue four - something like two years later
You and Jaehyun loved your apartment in Seoul, the placement, the convenience, but eventually it just couldn’t keep up with your needs: you had a curious baby who, on more than one occasion, crawled into your studio and came out covered in oil paints she then tracked all over the floor; Jaehyun wanted to practice choreography at home and there was no space and neighbors who came up to complain when they felt he was making too much noise; and those two points didn’t even matter, because your paintings eventually breached the confines of your studio and began to intrude into the rest of the place like an invasive species. You had outgrown your beloved little apartment, and needed a bigger place.
Not even a year after you had given birth, you had made the decision to buy a house and move to a quiet neighborhood that was a little closer to his parents as well. The proximity to them was convenient not only because they loved baby sitting, often coming over to watch the baby so you could paint without being interrupted constantly, but because his parents were genuinely lovely people and you loved being around them. Of course, they’d have to be if they raised someone like your husband.
“Be good for grandma, okay?” You kissed your daughter on the forehead as she groggily nodded yes and you handed her off to Jaehyun’s mom.
Anna gave both of the twins a kiss and told them to behave themselves. While your child was already tired from running around with her “cousins” all afternoon, her kids were a little older and still had some energy left. They were currently drawing a picture together.
“I’ll get them all to bed on time, don’t worry,” Jaehyn’s mom smiled.
You returned the smile. “Thank you, Omma.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Jeong.” Anna smiled.
“Have fun with your friends, you two.” She said as she sat at the table across from the twins.
Tumblr media
“Jae’s mom is so sweet,” Anna said as the two of you walked down the stairs to join the others.
“Mhm. Oh my god, I remember being so nervous when I met his parents. I was like this… dumbass American kid who purposefully orphaned herself from her family and now their son was about to present that mess of a person to them like, ‘Hey, I love this person.’ I was shitting myself.”
Anna laughed.
“But they liked me?” You widened your eyes at her, miming the astonishment you felt when they didn’t just not present you with an envelope of money as a bribe to stop knowing their son, they actually liked you and welcomed your presence.
She laughed again and swatted at you. “Didn’t they like you a lot when you finally met them?”
“Oh yeah. He told them all about me so: I didn’t even know I had a reputation, but it had already preceded me.” You chuckled as the two of you reached the bottom of the stairs and you turned the hall light off as you made your way to the kitchen. “And then his mom was all cute and weepy like, ‘If you ever need a mom, I can be your mom,’ and we both ended up crying.”
“Aww.”
“How’s your mom by the way? How’d the surgery go?”
“Oh, she’s doing great. Her and my dad want to visit once she’s okay to fly.”
“Would they want to come out here at all? We can maybe barbecue in the backyard and the kids can run around.”
“Oh, could we do that? It’d be so much better than having everyone over at our place.”
“That’s why I offered.” You laughed as the two of you walked into the kitchen. “As my oldest and most important friend, of course we can barbecue here.”
“We’re barbecuing?” Jaehyun asked as he arranged snacks onto a tray.
“Anna’s parents might visit soon and I offered our place for barbecuing. Do you mind?”
He shook his head with a smile. “Of course not. I love your parents, Anna.”
She smiled.
“And we’re of a singular mind,” Jaehyun said as you walked over to steal a snack and he seized the moment to kiss you on the cheek.
Anna chuckled. “If you two are going to be like this, I’m going to go wait for everyone else.” She left for the living room.
“You’ve chased our friend away,” you giggled as he went in for a second kiss.
“Had to happen at some point.”
He chased your lips with his own as you tried to dodge him, laughing as he tried to get you. He pulled you close and buried his face in your neck, you draped your arms over his shoulders with a chuckle and rubbed his back for a moment.
“You okay?”
He nodded into your neck before pulling away. “I want to see our friends, but I’m suddenly wishing we were having ‘alone time’ instead.” You snorted a laugh. “But this is the first time we’ve seen everyone since, like…” You had to think for a second, you almost couldn’t remember. You narrowed your eyes at him for a moment as you thought, unable to come to the answer. “...Since everyone came over to see the baby for the first time-- I think?”
He buried his face in your neck again and said something you couldn’t hear.
“I’m sorry? Was I meant to understand that?” You laughed.
He pulled back again and leaned his forehead against yours. “I don’t care. I want to be with my wife.”
You exhaled a laugh and headbutted him gently. “Such a whiny boy.” “Maybe.”
“Well, it’s Friday, so maybe we can convince your mom to take Yuri tomorrow and get some time to ourselves for the weekend.”
“Promise?”
“I mean, I can’t because she’s the one who has to say yes or no, but we can try asking.”
He hummed happily and kissed your neck.
“Sir, we’re having company soon. Actually, we have company already.”
He whined and pulled back so he could show you how angry he was at your rebuff: he furrowed his eyebrows together and frowned.
“Oh my god, so scary. What an intimidating presence.”
He furrowed his brows harder and scrunched up his nose.
“Oh my god. Were I wearing boots, I would be quaking in them. How will I ever recover from this-- this-- terrifying being?”
He laughed and sighed.
You patted his shoulders to get him to focus. “The kiddo and the twins are in bed or at least occupied, and your mom is watching them--”
“You mean Table?”
You laughed. He'd never let you live it down. “Sure.”
“You’re the one who wanted to confuse people,” he laughed.
You smiled. “Well, you picked a better name than I ever could,” you kissed his cheek, “good job, bestie.” You extracted yourself from his embrace
“Bestie?” He asked incredulously.
You smiled and opened a bag of chips so you could empty them into a bowl.
He scoffed and walked around the room, pretending to pay attention to everything but you, before launching himself at you and pinning you between himself and the counter.
“Stop stop stop,” you slapped at his hands as he held onto the counter, “everyone else is going to be here soon.”
“You should have thought of that before kissing me~” He sing-songed as he tried to plant kisses on your face that you, giggling, evaded.
“Jae,” you whined, “Anna is in the other room and I have to put chips in a bowl; very important.”
“More important than my kisses?”
“Much.”
He made a face of false offense and made sure you saw it.
“Do you know how many chips go bowl-less every year? Too many.”
“What would you do, if there was a chip, right in front of you?”
“In the arms… of… an angel…” you warbled in the worst singing voice you could muster.
“Oh my god,” he laughed and hugged you from behind,” I’m going to put that on Soundcloud and make you famous.”
You laughed loudly. “I’m a whiteboy Soundcloud rapper! ‘Skrrt! Skrrt! My daddy never loved me and now I have bad feelings about women and have to make it everyone else’s problem!’ Let go, I have to start my career! Skrrt!”
“Skrrt! Skrrt!”
“Skrrt!”
He laughed and held onto you as you tried to struggle, both of you laughing like idiots as you “Skrrt”-ed at each other and he only landed half the kisses he was trying to plant on you.
“Ah-HEM.” The two of you heard and Jaehyun turned to see who it was, pulling away from the counter and turning you as well.
Johnny laughed. “Are you going to flirt with your wife the whole time, Jeffery, or are you actually going to say hi to your guests?”
“Wave for us,” Jaehyun said and lifted you so you could wave with your feet.
You waved with your feet.
“Hi, y/n.” He laughed as he put the drinks he arrived with on the counter. “I’m going to say hi to my babies, but before I do, this is Mark Lee, a friend I met while DJing. He’s Canadian so don’t be afraid to act like a foreigner around him.” Johnny presented him to you before leaving for the upstairs portion of the house.
“Ahh, vous êtes Canadien?”
“Huh?”
You chuckled. “Hi, Mark Lee from Canada,” you said before waving again. “I’m y/n, this is my husband, Jaehyun. I’m from the US and he lived in America for four years.”
“Hi,” he awkwardly came over and shook your hand. He looked at Jaehyun, confused.
“Honey, let go of me and shake his hand,” you laughed.
He finally let go of you and you helped Anna unpack the drinks. Jaehyun shook Mark’s hand.
“This is a nice house.” “Thank you.”
They stood together awkwardly. “Why don’t you show him around?” You suggested. “Mark, are you a DJ?”
“Oh-- Actually I’m a rapper.” You laughed. “Maybe Jae can show you his studio, then.”
“Oh-- Yo, you have your own studio?” Mark asked Jaehyun, excited.
“Yeah. Want to see?”
“Of course! Jaehyun, let’s see that studio, son!”
You laughed loudly as they walked away.
“My husband finds the weirdest people.” Anna said, shaking her head.
“I think you mean he finds the best people,” you corrected.
She laughed. The doorbell rang and both of you went over to the intercom to check who it was. Seeing the rest of your friend group standing there, you opened the door and let them all in.
“Hi! Did you all come together?”
“No,” Eunji said as the two of you hugged, “somehow we all arrived at the same time.”
You laughed as Jungwoo gangster-cat-walked his way into the house before giving you a hug as well.
“Was traffic bad?” Anna asked.
“Not too terrible,” Taeyong answered as he walked in with Yuta behind him.
“Did you get my files for the multimedia exhibition?” Yuta asked you.
“I did. I think I was breastfeeding at the time and swiped it away by accident, but I’ll look on Monday.”
“Why not tomorrow?”
You narrowed your eyes at him.
He narrowed his eyes back.
“It’s the weekend, my dude.”
“You can still look, my dude.”
“But my dude wants to fool around, my dude--”
“Okay, I was going to make a joke like, ‘Were you breastfeeding Jae or the baby?’ but I didn’t know I would be given that information.”
You laughed loudly and slapped him on the arm.
“I have to go to Japan next week and I was hoping you’d look at it before then.”
“Then why’d you send it on a Friday afternoon?”
“I was--”
“He was bothering me all week about the music for the exhibition,” Johnny said as he came down the stairs. “That’s why.”
“Ohh…” you said and raised your eyebrows at Yuta.
“What a traitor,” he said back to Johnny.
Johnny shrugged and walked over to give Anna a hug and kiss.
“What’s that for?”
“The beautiful mother of my beautiful children.”
She laughed softly and rolled her eyes.
“Did your beautiful wife tell you that our firm picked up another project?” Jungwoo asked.
Johnny turned to Anna. “No she didn’t?”
Anna scowled at Jungwoo.
“Oh-- sorry.”
“Jungie,” Eunji sighed.
“Sorry.”
“Am I not supposed to know?” Johnny asked.
Anna sighed. “I had reserved a table at a nice restaurant so I could tell you and we could celebrate in a little style.”
He put his arms around her. “Aww, babe, we can still do that.”
“But now it’s not a surprise.”
“...What’s not a surprise?”
You snickered.
She looked up at him, her brows furrowed.
He looked back, doe-eyed in false confusion.
She sighed. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, but I don’t know what you’re thanking me for.”
She sighed and hugged him.
Johnny turned them both so he could get her walking towards the dining room, and winked at Jungwoo in as they passed him.
Jungwoo shrugged apologetically. Eunji hit him on the arm.
“What?”
“You know she likes to surprise him.”
“I thought she told him already.”
“You should have asked.”
“I said I was sorry.”
“Do you not celebrate a new project?” Taeyong asked.
“I-- we do-- but…” Jungwoo stuttered.
Eunji raised an eyebrow at him. “It’s uh… more lowkey.”
Taeyong looked at them in confusion for a moment before realizing what they meant. “Okay, well--” and left for the dining room.
“Yet another thing I didn’t need to know.” Yuta said and followed him.
You laughed and linked your arms in theirs. “Come on, you crazy, childless lovebirds.”
Eunji laughed softly. “Speaking of, can we watch the peanut again? She was so funny last time.”
“I know you’re not warming up to the idea of having kids.”
“Our Eunji? Never.” Jungwoo laughed.
“Listen, I heard every pregnancy horror story my grandmother, aunts, and mom all went through, I am so good. But Yuri’s cute when she’s awake and playing. You can have her back when she poops or cries or whatever.”
You laughed. “Rent-a-baby.”
“Exactly. I’m like a fun aunt: I watch her when she’s fun, you can have her back when she’s work. And then I’ll go home to my quiet and my cute husband.”
Jungwoo blew her a kiss.
You laughed again. “I love you two.”
She hugged you as you walked into the dining room. Anna and Johnny were setting up the food and snacks and getting the drinks ready. Jaehyun and Mark were coming back from the studio.
“And where’d you get the yellow one?”
“The Behringer? Amazon, honestly.”
“Oh, no doubt.” He made a note in his phone.
“You can get some really interesting distortion effects if you just fuck around with it for a bit.”
“Expensive?”
“Not really.”
“No doubt, no doubt.” He saw Johnny. “Amazon, more like AmaJon!” He laughed and gave Johnny a handshake hello.
“Mark, I’m literally the one who invited you.”
“You gotta be cordial, you gotta be cordial, you know? And me, I gotta be cordial.”
Cordial? You mouthed to Jaehyun.
He widened his eyes and shrugged as he walked over, and kissed you on the head. He whispered into your ear: “He’s an interesting guy.”
You giggled.
“Was it that funny?”
“Your breath made my hair touch my ear.”
He smiled and brushed it back away from your face, and then kissed you on the lips.
“Ahhh!” Johnny clapped loudly. “Stop that! You have guests!”
The two of you laughed.
“Maybe we should start the game.” Taeyong said. “So they’ll be preoccupied with something else.”
“Hey, we’re more than capable of keeping our hands off each other,” you protested.
“That’s not what I heard,” Yuta said with a wry smile.
You threw a chip at him.

With the snacks all placed on the table and the drinks all opened or mixed, you were all finally able to get to the main event of the night: Mafia.
A favorite of the group whenever you got together, it had started as a fun suggestion when you were still all in college, and became a sort of tradition. It was just competitive enough that you all got silly with it, but not competitive enough that anyone ever got into a fight. And it was perfect, because you all had your own way of trying to figure out who the mafia was; there was never a dull moment in any of the games you had played over the years.
So drinks were drank and since everyone was a little more drunk, the game started.
“Okay, everyone, heads down.” Johnny commanded.
“Thumbs up, Seven Up.” You said.
He chuckled. The only other people who would have understood you - Anna and Jaehyun - elbowed you in the side from where they sat on either side of you. You laughed.
“I will now walk around, and if I tap you,” Johnny said, “you’re that thing. Okay?”
A chorus of muffled ‘yes’es came back to him, along with one “Yes, games daddy.”
Johnny paused for a moment. “Yuta, was that you?”
“Yes.”
You all laughed, heads still down. You could guess that Johnny was probably shaking his head as Yuta laughed, self satisfied.
Johnny went around, telling everyone what they were, saying the name and then walking around the table a bunch of times so no one could figure out who was being tapped and who was what.
“Okay, the town, city, whatever is asleep,” Johnny started. “Can I see the mafia? Ma-ma-ma-ma-mafia, yeah, they are the mafia--”
“Babe.” Anna admonished.
“Ring-ding-ding, ding-ding-ding,” you sang.
Jaehyun laughed next to you.
Anna sighed. “You’re both as bad as each other.”
You laughed.
“No talking,” Johnny said with a sort of faux annoyance you knew to expect from him. “Mafia, wake up and do your dastardly deeds.”
You weren’t anything so you kept your head down.
“Who would you like to kill? Mhm? Alright, thank you. Go back to sleep. Now can the cop wake up?”
“ACAB,” Eunji said.
The table laughed quietly.
Johnny suppressed a laugh. “And who would you like to sneak a peek at?” He asked the cop. He was quiet for a few moments as they picked who they wanted to check and were told the answer. “Okay, go back to sleep. Now will the doctor awaken?”
Silence for a few seconds.
“Doctor?”
Silence again.
“Doctor.” He said forcefully.
“That’s me!” Mark said happily.
The game ruined, everyone groaned and picked up their heads.
“Mork!” Johnny yelled, exasperated.
“Mork!” You yelled, delighted.
“Mork?” Jaehyun asked.
“Wait, what’s ‘Mork’?” Jungwoo laughed.
“That’s what the other rappers and DJs call him when he does things like this,” Johnny said with a sigh.
“What?” Mark asked.
“Mork, come sit near me,” Yuta said, patting the seat next to him.
As he changed seats, Jaehyun asked. “Who was the mafia?”
“Me and Yuta,” Jungwoo said.
“Ahh,” Jaehyun nodded.
“It’s actually a good thing that you ended the game, Mark,” Johnny said as deleted the first list of positions he had made on his phone.
“Why?”
“Because they killed Taeyong and he died first the last two times we played.”
“What?” Taeyong asked as he looked between Jungwoo and Yuta. “What have I ever done to you two?”
You laughed. “Again?”
“Do you kill him all the time?” Mark asked Yuta.
“We do. It makes him so mad.” Yuta laughed.
You couldn’t tell if Taeyong was actually offended or pretending to be as he sat there, slack-jawed at the two of them.
“Okay, let’s start over.” Johnny said, finishing his new list.
He went around the room selecting the positions again, and again you weren’t any of them. The first morning came and he had you all ‘wake  up’.
“Good morning~” he sang. “Edvard Grieg’s ‘Morning Mood’ is playing like it’s a laundry commercial and you’re all waking up to a new day.”
“I’m taking down my laundry and smelling how fresh they smell,” you mimed taking laundry off a clothesline.
“What’s that?” Jungwoo asked.
“Taking it off a clothesline-- wait you don’t have that here. I’m taking it off a drying rack.”
You pretended to take something like a towel off a drying rack and leaned over the table to let him smell it. He pretended it smelled amazing and both of you mimed like two people in a detergent commercial, smiling in an absolutely unhinged way at the scent of fabric softener.
“Does this mean they’re the mafia?” Anna asked.
“No, it means they’re clowns,” Eunji said.
Jaehyun pulled at your shirt to make you sit. You looked at him and held up the imaginary towel to let him pretend to smell it. He did and you both started miming being in a box.
“Even worse,” Anna laughed.
Jaehyun kissed your cheek in a sneak attack.
“No profanity at the table,” Johnny said.
You snorted a laugh.
“Now,” he paused, “there was a death last night.”
You all reacted with shock.
“The person murdered… was Mark.”
Mark reacted with surprise.
“Sounds like a revenge killing,” you said.
“Are you the cop?” Jaehyun asked.
“No, I’m a concerned citizen; I came here to wash and dry my unmentionables in peace, now there’s crime happening in the area! What about my unmentionables?”
“For unmentionables, you sure mention them an awful lot.” He said.
“Sounds pretty suspicious to me…” Anna trailed off as she narrowed her eyes at you.
“You also went pretty hard on the waking up bit,” Taeyong pointed out.
“Yeah, but she always does that.” Jaehyun said.
You nodded. This was true; who would you be without sprinkling random comedy bits throughout your day like a vaudevillian actor. Of stage and screen.
“I can’t figure out who it is.” Yuta said, glaring at everyone at the table.
“I have an idea--” you started, and Anna started sarcastically clapping for your ability to have an idea. Johnny and Jaehyun joined and soon the whole table did as you sat there, looking unimpressed. “Fine. I won’t tell you what it is.”
“What is it?” Yuta asked.
“No.” You pretended to fold your laundry on the table. “If you’re going to be like that then I won’t tell you who I think it is.”
“You can’t just hold back clues.” Jungwoo said.
“I bet you she doesn’t know anything,” Anna laughed.
“No,” you said.
You finished your imaginary laundry and folded your hands in your lap gently like a middle-aged mother who felt unappreciated by her family, whose kids haven’t called since they moved out and who hasn’t received even a card for Mother’s Day. You can’t even go to the store to buy a card? On which to write ‘To’ and ‘From’ and mail it a few days before? You can’t even think about your mother on the day specifically for thinking about mothers? Hah. There truly is no point in raising children.
You laughed a short sigh as you shrugged. “I won’t tell you.”
“Well, regardless of whether we need to start visiting during the holidays…” Johnny said.
You pointed at him. You knew he’d get it.
He nodded at you. “You do all have to pick a mafia to get rid of.”
“Do we have any clues?” Anna asked.
“Not really,” Taeyong said. “But I’m alive so it can’t be Jungwoo or Yuta.”
You all laughed.
“On the count of three,” Johnny said. “One, Two, three.”
Everyone pointed at whoever and Johnny looked at the chaos of indecision.
“Uh… Jaehyun two, Taeyong two, Eunji two. You three can make your plea. Eunji?”
“So, I wasn’t going to pick Taeyong,” Eunji started, “but then I saw him pick me so I picked him back.”
“That easy, huh?” Anna asked with a laugh.
She nodded. “I figure, if he’s going to pick me, I’m going to pick him back because I have no idea who it is.”
Johnny nodded. “Taeyong?”
“I’m not the mafia. I don’t know who it is, but I-- it’s really not me.”
“Convincing,” Yuta nodded.
Johnny nodded. “And Jae?”
“I don’t think it’s Yuta or Jungwoo like Taeyong said, and I don’t think it’s y/n.”
“Isn’t this supposed to be a plea for you?” You asked.
“I saw Eunji’s face when you said you had an idea, so I think she’s a mafia. She acted like a mafia would if they knew they were caught.”
“Jungwoo’s been quiet,” Eunji said.
“Have I?” He asked.
“Hmm, maybe a little,” Yuta said, eyes still narrowed in suspicion.
Jaehyun continued. “I think that maybe the mafia are in a rush. Other positions aren’t in a rush, but the mafia are, obviously.”
“Are you in a rush?” Yuta asked.
Zinged, Jaehyun fixed his hair, smiling.
Everyone talked for a few moments until Johnny shouted over the group. “Okay! You all have to pick: one, two, three.”
Most of the fingers pointed at Taeyong.
“What?” He asked.
“Okay, Taeyong’s out.”
Yuta looked at everyone at the table. “What the--”
“Everyone back to sleep!” Johnny said.
You all put your heads back down. And that’s when you heard it again, the noise you heard during the first night: something between a rustling and a jingling. You had, as any hard boiled detective would say, a hunch. And it wasn’t just because of your bad posture.
And after all of the named positions made their choices, you all woke up.
“Good morning lawful citizens,” Johnny started. “There was a death last night.”
Giggling and gasping.
He turned slowly towards Jaehyun. “The Valentine Boy himself… has passed.”
Jaehyun sighed. You pretended to mourn him so he pretended to be dead.
“No! Jaehyun! My one and only love!”
“I thought I was your one and only love?” Anna asked.
“You’re my one and only platonic love,” you corrected before turning to Johnny. “Anyway, Eunji is the mafia, I heard her earrings during both nights after you asked the mafia to wake up, meaning she picked her head up, meaning she’s the mafia.”
Jaehyun looked at you, surprised, and whispered: “Wow.”
“You’re dead, you can’t talk.” Johnny said.
“Can I come back from the dead to make out with my wife?”
“Absolutely not.”
He sighed dejectedly. “Being dead sucks.”
You laughed.
“I heard her earrings too,” Yuta pointed at you. “She’s definitely one. I think Anna is the other one.”
“Why me?” Anna asked.
“You’re being suspicious.” “Does that mean you want to vote?” Johnny asked.
“Yes!” half of you shouted.
“I think we need to discuss this more,” Eunji said.
“Nope. My husband is dead and I desire vengeance!" You countered, hitting your fists on the table. “Who’s going to run the washing machine? Because it definitely won’t be me!”
Jaehyun laughed his dad laugh.
“One, two, three.” Johnny counted.
You, Yuta, and Jungwoo pointed at Eunji. Eunji pointed at you, Anna pointed at Jungwoo.
“Why are you pointing at me?” He asked.
“I panicked.”
He shot her a look.
Yuta narrowed his eyes at her.
“Eunji, you’re out. We’ll hold a lovely funeral for you.” Johnny said.
She sighed. “You’re making a mistake.”
“Beddy-bye.” Johnny said and you all put your heads down.
A few moments later and you all picked them up again.
“Good morning, random citizens. Y/n has died. Her funeral will be held tomorrow… if you can make it that far.”
You turned to Jaehyun, mouth agape, and he nodded at you sadly. You sighed and linked arms with him, both of you closing your eyes and pretending to be laid to rest for a few moments before going back to listening to the game.
“Okay, now I know it's Anna.” Yuta said.
“How is it me?”
“Because you pointed at Jungwoo instead of Eunji, and now y/n is dead which means she was right.”
“That checks out,” Jungwoo nodded. “I vote for Anna.”
They both pointed at her.
“Can’t I defend myself?”
They shook their heads.
Johnny shrugged at her. “Is that your final answer?” He asked them.
“Mhm,” Yuta nodded.
“Mhm.” Jungwoo nodded.
He nodded and paused dramatically. “The Citizens… have won.”
You clapped. The whole table bustled with energy.
“I knew I shouldn’t have pointed at you, Jungwoo.” Anna said.
He laughed. “Why did you?”
“I didn’t want to vote Eunji and I panicked.”
“You could have voted for me, I wouldn’t have been mad,” Eunji said.
“I’m surprised you managed to get it together after not listening to me and then letting me die.” You said.
“Who were the doctor and cop?” Yuta asked.
“I was the cop,” Mark raised his hand.
“I was the doctor,” Taeyong said.
“And you got voted out instead,” Jaehyun laughed.
Taeyong laughed with a sigh.
“Do we want to break for five minutes before the next game?” Johnny asked.
“Yes,” the table said in unison, as Eunji stood and left for the kitchen.
“If you need a drink, I’ll get it,” you offered as you stood.
“No, I’m taking my earrings off.” You heard rustling, her bag probably, and she came back in with naked ears. “If you think I’m getting caught like that again, you’re out of your fucking mind.”
You laughed.
“Anyone want their drinks refreshed?” Jaehyun asked and stood.
Everyone put their drink orders in and he went back and forth a couple times between the kitchen and the dining room getting drinks and throwing out empty bottles and cans.
He sat and put a new drink in front of you.
“Oh, I don’t need another one.” You said.
He shrugged. “We can share.” And kissed you on the head.
“No making out at the table!” Johnny said forcefully.
“It’s our house,” you said back through gritted teeth, “we can do whatever we want!”
“Not during the game!”
You turned to Jaehyun. “Let’s throw all these drinks off the table and really show them something.”
He looked at the drinks for a few seconds. “...I don’t want to clean it up though.”
You turned back to Johnny. “You’re only safe because my husband is lazy. And so am I.”
He laughed.
Anna laughed and imitated the two of you. “‘Jae! Hold me back!’ ‘...Nah.’”
You laughed. “That’s exactly it.”
“If anyone actually made her mad, they’d only be getting what’s coming to them,” he said and sipped the drink.
Johnny pointed at him, hoping he’d understand what he had in mind.
Jaehyun didn’t notice him at first, but the silence made him look in his direction. He considered him for a moment and then realized what the pointing was in reference to. He raised an eyebrow in acknowledgement and pointed back.
Mark looked between the two of them. “What does the pointing mean?”
Johnny looked at him, confused for a moment, and then realized: “Oh, I forgot someone was here who didn’t know.”
“You don’t need to explain it,” you said to Johnny and then addressed Mark, “Something happened a long time ago because of someone we used to know. It’s not important.”
He nodded.
“My wife is a terror, Mork, that’s all you need to know,” Jaehyun said and hugged you.
“Jae--”
“She’s a terror and I love her.”
You laughed. “So romantic.”
“You know those horror stories of women of the woods who are terrifying and beautiful--”
“--and terrifyingly beautiful--”
“--who eat men and are pure chaos? That’s her.” He squeezed you.
“Are you sure you’re not drunk?” You laughed.
He pulled back and looked at you. “I never said I wasn’t.”
“Oh my god.”
He grinned a dopey grin at you. How did you not notice before? His ears were already red and his eyes were getting that sleepy look you thought was adorable as he got all clingy with you.
“We’ve lost him.” Yuta said.
“I can’t believe I was hoping you two would get together, you’re so annoying.” Taeyong said.
You laughed.
“Okay!” Johnny clapped his hands together. “Next game.”
The game started and when Johnny said ‘Mafia’ the first time, you felt a tap on your shoulder as he walked by.
You were rarely chosen as mafia, and you honestly liked it better that way; you were able to goof off more and didn’t have to try and strategize at all. A small wave of panic surged through you for a second, and you wondered if you could actually win. It depended on your partner.
Johnny started and asked if you’d all like to introduce yourselves:
“I’m a…” Mark thought, “a concerned citizen.”
“What are you concerned about, Mark?” Johnny asked.
“Uh… laundry?”
“You have to get your own bit,” you said.
The group laughed.
Everyone else introduced themselves in some way or another, and you all decided not to vote, as no one seemed suspicious.
Then you went to the first night.
“Oh mafia… please raise your heads.” Johnny said.
You picked your head up and looked around, before landing on Jaehyun, who was looking right at you. You smiled in surprise, and he smiled back. This could be very bad… or very good. You smiled deviously at him, he mirrored you.
“Who would you like to kill, mafia?”
You pointed at Taeyong. Jaehyun looked at you, surprised. You scrunched up your nose with determination and nodded. It was a perfect opening. He nodded back and both of you pointed to him and nodded to Johnny.
“Thank you mafia, your order will be delivered in three to five weeks.”
You both put your heads down and waited for the others to do their thing.
“Okay, everyone, the day is dawning; time to write your morning pages, time to do your yoga and have a green smoothie. And maybe file a police report because Taeyong is dead.”
“What?” Mark says, sadly.
Taeyong sighed.
Yuta and Jungwoo’s attention snapped to each other.
Perfect.
They sized each other up for a moment.
“You think it’s me?” Jungwoo asked.
“I think it’s you.” Yuta replied.
“I think it’s you!” Jungwoo laughed.
Yuta narrowed his eyes at him, Jungwoo narrowed his back.
“Maybe it’s Eunji,” Yuta shifted his attention over to her.
Eunji looked up from sipping her drink. “Me? Why me?”
“Because you’re being quiet.”
“I was drinking? Should I talk when I drink? I’ll drown!”
You laughed.
“I think it’s Anna,” Jungwoo said.
“Why’s that?” Jaehyun asked.
“She was the mafia before.”
You stared at him for a second. “Are you new at this?”
“Is there anyone you would like to vote off?”
Everyone voted and no one had over one vote. Somehow.
“Ohh, one of those games,” Johnny said. “If you can’t decide, go back to sleep.”
“Mafia~ oh mafia~!” Johnny sang.
You and Jaehyun lifted your heads.
“Oh there you are, my little mafia. Who would you like to kill, mafia?”
You weren’t sure who to go for next. Yuta and Jungwoo had to stay alive for the plan, but you weren’t sure about everyone else.
Jaehyun pointed to Mark and raised his eyebrows, asking if you agreed. You shrugged and nodded. You both pointed at Mark.
“Oh? Really? Really, really? Wow! Okay!”
You tried not to laugh and put your head back down.
“Oh cop~! The next stop is: cop. Who would you like to check, cop? Okay~! Is there a doctor in the house? Oh doc! Who will you save, doc? Think carefully doctor! Think with all of your heart and your hippocratic oath! Okay, I’ll ask you about my bill later. Everyone wake and greet the new morning.”
You all woke up, you pretended to yawn and roll over in bed, and put your arm across Jaehyun. He patted your arm and you pretended to wake up.
Johnny stood still like a video game character who had just spawned in.
You all stared at him.
He stared back.
“...”
“...”
“...”
“Anyway, Mark is dead.”
Mark looked heartbroken. Poor goofball.
“I still think Jungwoo is suspicious,” Yuta said.
“Me? I’m just a citizen. You’re the suspicious one, you keep laying blame everywhere.”
“You have to lay blame somewhere, that’s how the game is played.”
“Are you just picking people you don’t like?”
“I can only trust Yuta,” Jaehyun said. “He’s really good at this game.”
You nodded. “But so is Jungwoo. Who do you suspect when the dream team is broken up?”
“Unless they’re the mafia and this is all an act.”
“Oh, shit,” you whispered.
Yuta stared at the two of you for a few moments. “I think it’s Jaehyun, y/n. Done.”
“Such confidence,” you replied.
“I’ll give you time to talk it out,” Johnny said and set a timer on his phone.
“I think he’s the mafia and he’s floundering,” Anna said.
“That could be it,” Eunji added.
“Why do you think I’m the mafia?” Yuta asked.  “You know how I play.”
“That’s exactly something the mafia would say.”
“What about you?” Eunji asked Jungwoo.
“Me?”
“Mhm.”
“I’m a cop.”
Taeyong pressed his eyes closed and tried to sigh without anyone noticing. You noticed.
“You’re the cop?”
“Yeah.”
“You don’t seem like a cop.”
“I’m a very good cop, every investigation I take on gets solved.”
“So who do you think is the mafia, cop?” You asked.
Jungwoo looked around the table. “I’m leaning towards… Anna, honestly.”
“Me?” She asked.
“Yeah. You seem suspicious.”
Anna turned to Yuta and glared at him.
“How’s it feel, mafia?”
She glared at him harder.
The alarm went off. “Okay, you have to vote.”
Everyone pointed. Most were pointing at Anna.
“Eunji, you have to save me,” she said.
“How do I save you?”
“And my lovely wife is no more.” Johnny said. “Go to sleep.”
You all put your heads down.
Johnny sang. “Mafia, mafia, who will you pick? Mafia mafia, who will--”
“Get sick.”
“You’re dead, Mark. You can’t talk.”
The group chuckled.
“Will the real mafia, please wake up.”
You and Jaehyun raised your heads and shared your second devious smile of the night. Anna looked at you, unimpressed. You blew her a kiss.
You pointed at Jungwoo and raised your brows to ask if Jaehyun agreed. He nodded and you both pointed at him to show Johnny your pick.
“Okay. Okay. Okay? Okay! I got it! I said I got it! I got it!”
Mark started laughing and Jaehyun implored Johnny with his expression.
“Alright, thank you to the mafia, without them, this wouldn’t be the same.”
You put your heads back down.
“And the cop? Thank you copper. And the doc? Thank you doccer. Everyone awake, to a new, fresh morn’.”
“Doccer?” Taeyong whispered to himself.
“It’s the next morning,” Johnny continued. “...Jungwoo is dead.”
“Oh my god,” Yuta said. “It was Jaehyun and y/n.”
“Wait, are we done?” Eunji asked. “We didn’t find anyone.”
“There’s still four of us,” Jaehyun said.
“How many mafia are left?” You asked.
Johnny smiled. “I don’t know, you tell me.”
You smiled and held up two fingers.
Yuta groaned. “I should have gone with my gut!”
“Why didn’t you?” Jungwoo asked.
“I have no idea!”
The group laughed.
“What number game was that?” Jaehyun asked.
You started ticking them off on your fingers, “First game… Borked by Mork. Second game… Ladies Night. Third game… Sleeper Cell Dream Team.”
He nodded.
“Where do you come up with this shit?” Eunji laughed.
“I have no idea, my good dude.”
“Should we play one more game?” Jungwoo asked the table.
“I don’t know,” Anna responded, nodding a Johnny, “Are you okay? Didn’t you stand all day while you were setting up the festival?”
“I’m okay.”
“Your feet don’t hurt?”
He smiled. “They’re fine, my love.” He looked past her for a few moments before gesturing at what he was looking at. “Anyway, I think at least one of us is a lost cause.”
Anna turned. Jaehyun’s face was buried in your neck and in between gentle pats and shoves, you were giggling as you tried to fend him off.
“We have guests, sir! Guests!”
“Tell them to get their own wife.”
“Oh my god--ahh!”
Anna shook her head. “I guess we’re done.”

↳ Being the daughter of a top fashion brand, an arranged marriage isn’t what you’d expect coming out of your mother’s mouth. Especially when she says that it’s with Jung Jaehyun, the son of the CEO who owns one of the biggest trading companies. Of course he’s a heartthrob, a ladies’ man, and prince in the media, but in reality, he’s a royal pain in the ass. Your patience, emotions, and sanity is tested when you’re forced to share a life together. Will it crumble to the ground of the empire you’ve build or will there be a change of heart?
Coming Home || @cupofjae🔞💕💔✅ (yuta x reader, smau)
