normal ask i hope! ur fave underrated martian moment ?!
omg hi i have. so many underrated martian moments. maybe they're less "underrated" and more like martian just has soo much history to it that we physically cannot remember everything but i shall endeavour to include as much as i can <3
#1. "if i'd got no competition about me, no real fire or desire, then i'd get on with seb like a house on fire"
#2. TEAM FILMING DAY 2012 i think they were very buddy buddy and cute here, they shared a segway and looked like they were having fun :)
Tumblr media
#3. JEREZ 2005 aka seb's first test in a car! seb saying in his abu dhabi 2022 interview:
Tumblr media
"what people don't know is i did my very very first test in 2005, and mark was there as well! we shared the car, i mean i had the deal with bmw that i was allowed to do a couple of laps. and i remember the test very well because i was a bit scared, you know, after?"
+ this in aussie grit:
Tumblr media
"my eyes were [huge], i was full of adrenaline, and after the couple laps i had, i wasn't able to hold onto my neck. and, you know, mark was so kind and gave us a lift to the airport! so that's really when it started.... we always had a straightforward relationship, there were some moments where we disagreed, let's say? but i think we always had respect for each other, and that respect helped us--and helps us--to get along the way we do!"
#4. BMW CHRISTMAS PARTY 2005 bom did a whole thing on this but to summarize, bmw hosted a winter party and mark and seb were in attendance and they sat across from each other in a carriage and it's possibly the most winter fairytale thing they could have possibly done together <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
#5. "I always thought that if you look at other team pairings, there are far worse ‘couples’ than we’ve been in terms of mutual respect."
#6. SEB WENT TO MARK'S FAREWELL DINNER. i have no official source for this it's been on my to-do list to find forever but the posts are there
#7. "IT'S FOR BOTH OF US." cota 2013 when mark was given a model car and seb looked at it and mark was like it's for both of us! martianblr at the time thought mark said "we can share it" after but i've listened to the clip and im hearing "we can sign it." who knows! i think it's rlly cute that a decade ago this place was losing its shit over the same things though
Tumblr media
#8. MATCHING CAMPBELL SOUP SHIRTS and in their opposite matching porsche colours..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(post)
edit 6 hours after starting this answer i forgot my train of thought bc i ended up going outside for half the day lol but um. yeah! them <3 if i remember more and have time tmrw i'll reblog with a few additions because i'm sure im missing things!

Wildcards are a Great Idea
Bit of a shorter, popup blogpost today, but wildcards are a great idea.
What prompted all this? Well, KTM just announced that Dani Pedrosa will race on a third Red Bull KTM bike at the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, and then Pol Espargaro will race that bike at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello a month later. Last year, Pedrosa was instantly competitive in his two wildcards in Jerez and Misano, finishing 6th in the Jerez sprint, seventh in the Jerez race, and then taking a pair of fourth place finishes at Misano. This is awesome.
Similarly, we effectively have wildcards in American motorsports, in that we have one-off entries that can be super competitive. Think of Shane Van Gisbergen last year, the Australian Supercars champion came over, hopped in the Trackhouse Project 91 entry, and won at the Chicago street race, becoming the first driver to win his first cup race since like the 1950s. That is awesome.
And what's even more awesome is that now, between Xfinity and Cup, SVG is now turning that into a full-time career pivot to NASCAR, something only possible because he had that one-off chance to showcase his talent.
Similarly, the last week or so, we've gotten a raft of one-offs announced for the 2024 Indianapolis 500 - Katherine Legge giving us a competitive woman to cheer for, crowd favorite Conor Daly back in an Indycar, and 2012 series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay as his teammate at Dreyer & Reinbold. These are three really good drivers with lots of history in the series getting another shot at Indycar racing's greatest prize. That is awesome.
And then there's Formula One.
The same twenty cars each and every race with the same Red Bull driver destined to win virtually every week. I have a lot of problems with F1 and it's going to take a lot for me to fall back in love with the racing series that meant so much to me for most of my life. That being said, even here, wildcards could certainly spice up the show.
Ollie Bearman had that hugely impressive race in Saudi Arabia filling in for Carlos Sainz, imagine if Ferrari had the freedom to give him two or three more races in a third car at the likes of Imola, Silverstone, and Monza. Similarly, Red Bull could give Liam Lawson some more F1 experience in one of its teams, especially if they're considering him for a future ride.
Or we could see a direct parallel with Dani Pedrosa - in that retired family man Sebastian Vettel could team up with one of the teams he raced for - Toro Rowhateverthey'recallednow, Red Bull, Ferrari, or Aston - and pick and choose a few of his favorite racers. Everyone seems to want him back anyway, so why not let him do this in a way that doesn't subject him to the absurd demands of a twenty-four race globetrotting season?
I grew up thinking F1 was the greatest motorsport had to offer, but as I get older, I appreciate the more open systems in other racing series. It's really damn cool when we get these competitive one-off racers every once in awhile.
You don't hurt anything by adding a new, interesting storyline.

Just wanted to say thank you for posting the things said in cuatro tiempos. I’m not sure how many episodes there will be, but I’m relishing every moment you post (or Jorge posts on Instagram and I half understand)
Also quick question, was the (in)famous handshake in 2008?? It’s said the worst of their rivalry was in 2008 so what are some things that happened??
Lol I'm glad you like my post. I felt like I'm screaming to the void only the bits I find curios or I like. I was lucky that this episode was mostly about Dani and Jorge relationship and rivalries so it was a gold mine. Cuatro Tiempos is just 4 episodes, so we are half way done, but probably I'll rewatch some times and bring other bits if I feel like, or if someone ask for something from it.
If you want more bits of footatge, Izaskun Ruiz post in her insta stories the content DAZN post, plus she post interviews and photos of the team on track and they are funny to watch.
2008-2009 it's Dani's and Jorge's pick of rivalry basically because they have been forced to fight against each other since 2002 when Jorge debut on the championship. Basically all around them made them "enemies" plus their riding style and actituts. Dani was Honda's golden boy, he had the seal of approval from DORNA plus the support Jorge lacked (and a Cola Cao ad). Dani was the angel and Jorge the bad boy.
When they where both fighting in 250cc (year 2005), there was lots of contacts on track plus a lot of accusations flighting between Jorge, Puig and Amatriain. According to Jorge and Puig it was a way to destabilize the other rider on track and a means to and end. Back then, Jorge was very aggressive, he saw a gap and he throw himself there, which caused him a race ban. Spanish media was all over them back then.
Then Dani went to MotoGP as 3 times consecutively World Champion (125 in 2003 and 250 in 2004 and 2005). There was 2 years without their fights on track as Jorge was fighting for his 2 tittles in 250.
So in 2008 they both found themself in the same track with more or less equal machines fighting. Media was all over them to reignite the 250cc fight and because it was the first time that Spaniards had 2 very competitive riders on track fighting and having options to win in the big category. So again it was more about people around them than them.
But then again Dani has said, he did not like when Jorge won him, and by the type of character he his, it led to this:
Tumblr media
So basically Jorge had been recriminating Dani to not congratulate him on the podium in Qatar. Then in Jerez, Jorge went to congratulate Dani for his pole, with a handshake, but Dani ignored him and Jorge and the other rider in there where kind of shocked.
The next day, Dani won the race and Jorge finished in 3rd place, so they had to share a podium. The King of Spain, Juan Carlos I (the older guy) was and is a fan of the races and was in charge of giving the trophies so he went to the cold-down room/the back of the podium and forced the hand shake. During the podium they did not look at each other.
This is according to the media, their worst/lowest point in their relationship, but Dani said pre-2010, so I'm guessing 2009 was like that too.
In 2012, it's when media and everyone knew that the hatched was buried and they where friends, when this happened in Qatar
Tumblr media
And if there was doubts, Jorge asked Dani to marry him on a press conference that same year
I hope this is enough to answer the question

for obvious reasons I AM IN LOVE WITH YOUR LATEST EDIT. I'd not thought about nude being a rbr seb song until now and I can't stop
i'm glad u like it!!! <3
and WOUGH right? i mean people argue about the meaning of nude all the time but i see it as a couple things.. commentary on forced sameness ([you] fill up with noise but there'll be something missing), thom's little "gotcha" for the listener (last line + in rainbows from the basement vid where he does. this), but also what it actually says on the surface, which is like, don't let your ambitions overtake your capabilities, in an ironic sort of way.
2012 testing went alright, but as we know, 2014 was a disaster--over two days in jerez, he completed a total of 11 laps. being [painted] white and [filled] up with noise can have two very different meanings depending on context; what is the white? what is the noise? "don't get any big ideas, they're not gonna happen" is my little twist on the negativity from that year and following, when the media suddenly decided he was completely washed.
back to the sameness lens which inspired the whole thing, and this is less pertaining to rbr seb and more to seb in general? but he recently criticized f1's new rule against platforming social justice issues, a rule that will encourage the media to think in one particular way about the sport going forward because they effectively control the narrative. "you'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking" = you'll be condemned for thinking outside of what we want you to think.
anyway thom yorke big brain and radiohead is for girls (gender neutral)
