I think TBHK is really well written for the most part, and then there's the 1% about Nene's death and it's just...

Imagine the characters know a wooden house is about to burn. Hanako tries to move the house and put it in Alaska so it doesn't burn. Kou is worrying about an already burnt house reduced to ash. Nene, the person that lives in the house, doesn't have time to process that it's gonna burn because, idk, there's pests everywhere. Whenever the fact that this house is gonna burn is brought up, Kou and Nene just go "We'll deal with it together✨️" and then don't bring it up again for a while until Hanako tries to douse the neighbour's house in gasoline and Nene's in ice cubes. Oh, and Akane and Teru are swinging torches around to get a rise out of the 13 year old.

MRDOCA Flashback: A Place on the Fridge

May 30th, 2025

Most kids got excited as the school year drew to a close. 

Well, most of them.

10 year old Jack wasn’t very thrilled as he received some test results back from his teachers.

Greeeeeeat…these won’t get anywhere close to Isaac’s grades… 

When Jack and his 8 year old brother Isaac returned home, Isaac looked over in confusion as their parents ignored Jack’s test results and instead pinned his tests to the fridge. Isaac tried to ask them about it, but he (and Jack) were always brushed off.

“...they don’t want me, do they?” Jack asked Isaac.

Isaac didn’t know what to say.

That night, Isaac snuck out of his room and down to the kitchen. As it was the end of May, it got darker at a much later hour than the boys’ bedtime. So with the rest of the family asleep, Isaac saw his chance to pin both of Jack’s tests on the fridge before he lit up and rushed down to Jack’s room.

“Jack? Jack? You asleep?” Isaac whisper-shouted.

“Wha-”

“I wanna show you something.”

“...Isaac?”

“Be quiet.”

Shrugging, Jack slowly crept after his little brother as the two headed to the kitchen.

“Look, look down.” Isaac pointed at the two tests.

“Oh?” Jack’s mouth stayed in a shocked O shape.

“I’m not tall enough to reach as high as mom and dad. But now you’ve got a place on the fridge tonight. See? Right there.”

Jack’s mouth quivered as words escaped it.

“Thanks, nerd.” 

“Hey!”

Jack giggled a little as the two headed back to bed. This wasn’t the first time Jack hadn’t had his grades on full display, but this was one of his favorite surprises from his younger nerdish brother.

Hiatus

I am going on hiatus for a bit more. I really really hoped the stuff that have been going on lately were already "sorted out" but, uhm... they aren't. I need to take a bit more time offline once again, and try to work things out.
