in "an elephant makes love to a pig" jimbo is enraged that the clone of stan tore up his gunshop, but i've always found it fascinating that ned was absent from the episode. if you're paying attention he's literally one of the few adults who is willing to treat the kids as equals and is always trying to look out for them in the best way possible
he's fine with being beaten up by tweek during boxing training, it's heavily implied he yelled at jimbo for hitting stan during volcano, jimbo never harms a child again (but only attempts to throw a chair at cartman when ned is in a coma, something ned probably yelled at jimbo at if he's ever seen the episode televised) and it's implied in scott tenorman must die that he is the one who pointed out to jimbo that cartman could have been killed for messing with farmer jenkin's pony without his consent, he rushes over with concern on his face
like, i do imagine craig and tweek have approached him at least once and he was super cool about it

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Shemekia Copeland Live Show Review: 9/22, The Salt Shed, Chicago
Tumblr media
BY JORDAN MAINZER
“You don’t open with this one!!!” screamed a fan as Jason Isbell sang the words, “This is how you make yourself vanish into nothing,” the opening lines to Something More Than Free classic “24 Frames”. He had a point. Isbell’s songs are often so emotional that audience members seeing him live feel like they need to be primed into the devastation, instead slowly taking in the chops of his backing band The 400 Unit (guitarist Sadler Vaden, bassist Jimbo Hart, keyboardist Derry deBorja, drummer Chad Gamble). But continuing from his best songs with Drive-By Truckers, Isbell’s last four records (not counting his 2021 covers album Georgia Blue) effectively combine tales of personal triumph with pleas for sociopolitical empathy, and launching right into his most Springsteenian song is straight up fitting at this point.
Best, the instrumentation Thursday at the Salt Shed was still dynamic. Isbell himself is a terrific guitarist, able to rip a blues solo with the best of them on “Something More Than Free” and the Truckers’ “Decoration Day”. Vaden’s electric playing sounded infinitely expansive on “Last of My Kind”, gentle and limber on a self-described “hillbilly style” version of “Tour of Duty”. Gamble swayed between similarly subtle on “Overseas”, thumping and forceful on “Super 8″. deBorja added stadium-sized depth to Southeastern’s biggest tearjerkers, “Cover Me Up” and “Elephant”. Hart, rather than Gamble, was the true backbone, buoying the band when they blasted out from already rollicking song structures on “Hope The High Road” and a Vaden-led cover of Drivin N Cryin’s “Honeysuckle Blue”.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, though, Isbell’s most timely tune--and his most explicit foray into heartland rock--is “Be Afraid”, a song that grapples with the importance of country artists specifically speaking out against inequality and other social ills. “We won’t shut up and sing,” he declares, referencing the country music industry and conservative media backlash over The Chicks’ Natalie Maines speaking out against George W. Bush and the Iraq War. The song also harked back a mere hour, to the night’s opener Shemekia Copeland. Before launching into “Pink Turns to Red”, a pro-gun control song from her new album Done Come Too Far (Alligator), Copeland said, “When shit is messed up, we talk about it...At this age, I don’t stray from controversy.”
Copeland and Isbell are collaborators, the latter playing on the former’s most recent album, but they’re also similar in their ethos. Copeland still writes some songs like popular infidelity pre-revenge tale “It’s 2 A.M.”, but on Done Come Too Far, she continues the spirit of 2018′s America’s Child, prayers for a better world. There are modern day Civil Rights anthems, searing laments about conversations Black parents have with their kids about growing up Black in a world of police racism and brutality, and the continuing struggles for liberty. A song like her new album’s title track fits right alongside Copeland stalwarts like “Ghetto Child”. While the studio version highlights a duet with Cedric Burnside, it didn’t lose it’s slinky wah wahs live, Ken ‘Willie’ Scandlyn busting out yearning solo after solo. Copeland also revealed that Done Come Too Far came out the same day her mom passed away, and she appropriately played “Nobody But You”, a song written by her father Johnny about her mother. Best, though, was “Barefoot in Heaven”, a song she does “cuz it makes me feel good.” A relaxed gospel strut, it sees Copeland imagining--yes--walking through heaven barefoot, rubbing elbows with Sister Rosetta Tharpe, taking it all in. For all of her struggles, that scene is, truly, something more than free.

Encyclopedia Brown thoughts: book 11
Encyclopedia Brown Lends a Hand
The Case of the Runaway Elephant:
Is Jimbo's name a play on Jumbo?
Yet another moment when I actually agree with @brownencyclopedia - Mr. Hunt is Jimbo's rightful owner, if only because the statute of limitations on the case would have long since expired after seventeen freakin' years. Mr. Xippas has a cooler name, though, if only because it starts with an X.
The Case of the Counterfeit Bill:
How many kids would know which side a police badge is supposed to be worn on? To be fair, Encyclopedia is the son of a cop, so he probably would know that.
The Case of the Litterbugs:
I love the fact that the anti-litterbug goodie-goodie brigade is called Pride. I wonder how Sobol would react to Pride's current meaning if he were alive today?
I don't condone violence against children, but Duke Kelly has a point. Marlo and his little group of do-gooders do need to keep their noses out of other peoples' trash.
Apparently the only things the Idaville police are actually good at are tracking the license numbers of litterbugs and randomly searching anyone who's recently bought a new typewriter or had an old one repaired.
What does Pride do with litter where they don't have names, addresses, or license numbers?
Pride doesn't keep records? Maybe they should, because then they'd be able to avoid or counter the exact situation in this story.
The Case of the Frightened Witness:
Ginocchio isn't really that hard to spell. But then, I've always been a good speller, so feel free to take that with a grain of sodium chloride.
This case is pretty much pure insane troll logic. How would anyone able to figure out that the money was under an eraser just because Luther, and later Encyclopedia, were using words that start and end with the same letters?
The Case of the Exploding Toilet:
The narrator is right. That lion is ugly!
After reading this case, I was a bit afraid that something like what happened to Winslow would happen to me, so I would always back up when flushing a toilet.
What use would a pickaxe and shovel have in boiler-room maintenance?
The Case of the Salami Sandwich:
Finally we get a good teenager in this series, and he's an idiot. :P
The thief's name is Al Noshman, and he's a fast eater. Get it?
So... Ziggy was sick enough to put his lunch in a box of caps, but also knew that he had been putting his lunch in boxes of caps instead of boxes of shoes that week?
I hope Ziggy didn't eat the week-old salami sandwich after finding it...

What beanies do you really want rn? I'm after Flitter and Float the butterflies because I'm slightly obsessed with spring imagery! (even though it's my least favorite season bc allergies 😅)
Ooh I have a bit of a list! Id love to finish getting the zodiac collection (I have about half) and the rest "greatest show on earth" collection. (I have the tiger so I'd need Vegas the Zebra, Kookie the Dog, Giraffiti the Giraffe, and Jimbo the Elephant.)
There's also a collection of Asian/Pacific Island bears based off of national flowers that I would love to get my hands on, but they were never sold in the US so they're kinda hard to come by
Tumblr media
Though to be honest, I also have a soft spot for anything I played with as a kid or just anything I think is really cute even if they're not as rare or "valuable"

☁️ [ Jimbo and Ned would like to know a childhood memory she has with them ]
"Yeah, yeah. She's fine. And congrats again, Randy! Send Sharon my love, will ya!"
Jimbo hung up the phone and turned to his niece, who was scowling on the sofa next to Ned. "How about that, Shelly? You have a new little brother! You excited?"
"NO! I DON'T WANT A STUPID BRUVVER!" the three year old shouted.
"Come on now! It will be like having a playmate that never has to go home! Just think about all the fun you two will have together! Just like me and your mommy used to!"
"I don't want to play with a stupid baby! I already play with Kevin!"
"Right. Well... when you get bigger, somebody needs to beat up any boy who tries to cross you! You have your very own bodyguard!"
Ned tried not to laugh at that. He was pretty sure that the little girl sitting next to him could easily take down a rampaging elephant.
"I do that all by myself! That's why Ms. Claridge puts me in timeout!"
"Oh. Uh..." Jimbo was starting to falter. "A little help, Ned?"
"Mmmm... you're part of a special club now. The Oldest Sibling Club."
Shelly looked intrigued by that. "A club?"
"That's right!" Jimbo added. "I'm a member too! A club just for big kids! And little Stanley won't be able to join! This is a special club for special kids!"
She perked up even more. "Special? And the turd baby can't be in it?"
"Don't call the little fella a turd, Shelly. But you get to do all kinds of things! You get to boss him around. And maybe even give him a whack when he's getting on your nerves sometimes!"
For the first time since she arrived at her uncles' house, a smile flickered across Shelly's face. "I get to be the boss! I think I like having a bruvver now!"
Ned looked at the little girl apprehensively. He recognized that bloodthirsty look in her eyes from his boxing days. "Mmmm... I think you might have created a monster, Jimbo."
"Stop worrying! Everything's fine! She'll forget all about this by dinner! She and little Stanley are going to get along like two peas in a pod!"

I Will Be By Your Side No Matter What
For the longest time Toby wondered how his reunion with Jim would be like, but he didn't expect to be this disappointing. The moment they arrived at Arcadia, Jim simply gave Toby a quick hug and went to his mother's house. It was jarring, he wanted to go with his best friend to New Jersey, he didn't want to be left behind. But Jim told him that he had to stay, to protect Arcadia. Now it seems like he just wanted to get rid of Toby.
He wanted to give the benefit of the doubt, and Toby did throughout his friends' visit. The last day though, Toby couldn't take it anymore. He asked Jim to meet him in Trollmarket tonight; to finally bring up the elephant in the room. It was decided that they'd meet at Blinky's old library. Toby sat on the table, the only source of light was his warhammer. After finding out that the  Gumm-Gumms were feeding off the dead heartstone, it was no longer safe to come to Trollmarket without a weapon.
"Tobes, are you here?" Jim came inside to the library, careful on where he stepped on.
"Yeah." He muttered, crossing his arms together.
"So what do you want to talk about?" The trollhunter sat next to Toby.
"Remember when you told me to stay in Arcadia? Well you made it sound like it was a big deal, but now it feels like that's not the case."
Jim had a confused look on his face. "I don't understand Tobes, why would you feel that way?"
"Because you haven't mentioned it once since you got here! Not even a thank you!" How could Jim say that, did he really care so little about his feelings.
"I'm sorry, but you have to understand, there's a lot I'm going through and lately I've just been so tired. My mind has been a little slow-"
"This isn't about you!" Toby shouted. He pushed his friend aside, sprinting across the room.
"Please Tobes, calm down." The trollhunter pleaded quietly.
"No! I've always been by your side no matter what! And yet you keep leaving me over and over again! I'm sick of it!" Tears streamed down Toby's face, he gripped his hand on the warhammer tightly.
Jim stayed silent for a moment, he looked at his best friend, then at the library. "For the longest time I've wondered if I was holding you back. You're so different from me Toby, you're more social. Makes me wonder how we stayed friends for so long."
"What's your point?" Toby said coldly.
"I don't know, and I still don't know what you want from me. From the calls you gave me, I thought you were happy. Meeting new friends in a way you couldn't have done with me." Toby was at his breaking point now. Jim didn't care for him, he never did. The trollhunter could never understand how important he was to Toby.
Jim seemed uncomfortable, and couldn't look his friend in the eye. "I... I think I'm gonna go, see you later Tobes."
He snapped, If Jim thought he was holding him back, then Toby would make sure that will never happen again. He kept  swinging his warhammer as hard as he could, and the trollhunter didn't fight back.
Jim only said, "Tobes! Please stop!", once and nothing else.
Once it was over, Toby felt as if a weight had been lifted for a moment. Then he was full of dread, seeing Jim's body crumbled into pieces with pools of blood scattered across the floor. How could he do this? Toby killed his best friend, he couldn't explain this to Dr. L, Blinky, Claire, or Nana. Oh god, why did he do it? Toby had to get out of Trollmarket, he can't stand to be here any longer.
Toby then glanced at the amulet, and could see that the stone inside of it was cracked. There could be a new trollhunter, not right now. He reaches out for it but in a big flash of light, the amulet was gone.
Somewhere else...
Steve laid down in his bed while reading a book, until a crackling aura formed at the center of the room. He quickly stood up and grabbed his baseball bat. Soon, an amulet appeared and dropped on the floor. The energy inside the amulet was leaking from the crack. Steve hesitantly approached the small object, recognizing it as Jim's amulet.
"What the..."
Then a static voice came from the amulet, like it was saying more than one word at once. "Steve... sskkkkkrrrrt! Tarron...."
A few days had passed and Aaarrrgghh had started to notice that there was something with his wingman. He was always jumpy and would sometimes shout at someone that wasn't there. "Something wrong wingman?" The large troll asked.
Toby's body tensed moment and quietly looked at Aaarrrgghh. "No, why do you ask?"
"Wingman always scared now."
The teen gave Aaarrrgghh a reassuring smile. "Sorry buddy, I haven't really been able to get any sleep lately. That's all"
The large troll felt there was more to it than that and asked, "Is it about Jim?" The trollhunter has been missing, and so far they have found nothing.
The color drained from Toby's face, but forced himself to continue smiling. "Yeah, I just hope he's alright."
Aaarrrgghh then gave his wingman a hug. "Here for you." He wanted to let Toby know that he could always talk to him.
"Thanks." As Toby hugged back, Aaarrrgghh felt his hands were shaking.
"Want to be with friends?"
Toby shook his head. "Maybe later."
The large troll hummed and left the room. "Tobes..." The teen closed his eyes and put his hand over his mouth.
"Tobes..." He wanted to scream so badly. Toby glanced back and saw Jim.
Parts of his body were either gone or cracked, and half of his face was falling apart. Jim had a blank expression and yet his words were filled with emotions.
"Leave me alone." Toby whispered desperately, as he started to cry.
Jim slowly moved towards his old friend, he gently placed his hand on Toby's cheek. "No."
"Please, I didn't mean it Jimbo!" Toby explained.
"No, you did." The way Jim said it felt so familiar, it was nerve wracking.
"You're my best friend, I don't want to see you like this!" The trollhunter had a calm smile on his face and laugh, it was so sweet and genuine. Toby felt a shiver down his spine.
"Good."

Debussy - Children’s Corner (1908)
Around this time, Debussy had found his mature style and wrote music beyond standard tonality. But he decided to write a piano suite for his [then] 3 year old daughter, nicknamed Chou-Chou. Unlike other similar children-focused works, this was not written for amateur pianists. It is full of musical jokes and lighthearted charm. The opening piece is a nod to Clementi and Czerny -esque finger exercises, but Debussy goes through more interesting modulations to be a far cry from generic student pieces. It also ends with a banal coda thats funny in how out of place it feels. The next piece, “Jimbo’s Lullaby”, is named after Chou-Chou’s stuffed elephant. Here, we imagine a nocturne where the elephant’s clumsy steps can be heard. A pretty melody, somewhat naive and nostalgic, comes out of pentatonic scales, and later complicated with whole tone interruptions. Serenade for the Doll opens with what feels like plucking strings, like mandolin players of old, and the melodies play over rolled chords. The Snow is Dancing opens with a pretty figuration, a call back maybe to the magical feeling of being a child and playing outside, watching the snow fly around. It’s snowing badly here today and I can’t help but think of those same winter days I used to have fun with. The Little Shepherd is a pastorale with a pretty modal melody you can easily imagine coming from a flute. The closing piece, Golliwag’s Cakewalk, is named after an old doll that was popular at the time, but has long since been decried as racist caricature of black people. It’s a shame because the music is fun, but the minstrel-level offensive inspiration makes it hard to enjoy it for the lighthearted dance it wanted to be. Regardless, it is a funny movement for its mockery of Wagner, by having the dance interrupted by gasps of the Tristan chord, “to be played with heavy passion”, only to immediately be flicked away by a dismissive vaudeville gesture, the music sticking its tongue out at the self-important psycho-philosophical might that the Teutonic artists insisted their music contains. It gives the suite a delightful finale. Apparently Debussy was embarrassed by the work, worried that its childish subject matter would make people look down on him as a serious composer. But that didn’t happen, and the suite is among his more popular works.
Movements:
1. Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum
2. Jimbo’s Lullaby
3. Serenade to the Doll
4. The Snow is Dancing
5. The Little Shepherd
6. Golliwag’s Cakewalk
