Andrew Rathbun's "The Speed of Time"

I rarely write about jazz, mostly because it is a genre with which I am less familiar. I confess to a lack of knowledge (though I’m working on it) of jazz, especially of the last twenty years or so. time is very interesting. i think a lot about the relative distance between historical points and how it relates to us. like i was just thinking that like, when john coltraine &co. were recording giant steps, they would look back on the rise of practical sound recording and record distribution as being only slightly longer ago than we look at the rise of the internet in the west & the fall of the soviet union. events that changed the world, but still are quite recent to us. the records industry would have felt like that to them. isn't that weird? The world is so full of wonder.

Cities of Love - Workshop
CITIES OF LOVE
The workshop is inspired by music legends Alice and John Coltraine, who got married in the city of Juárez in June 1965.
The three days workshop will see the collective cinematic re-enactments of stories that the participants will bring. We are hoping for 10-12 participants, who are interested in telling stories with camera and performing/acting.
TO PREPARE FOR THE WORKSHOP:
1) Listen to music by Alice Coltraine (for example: The album Turiya Sings from 1982: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMfLGKeM9pY) and John Coltraine (for example - A Love Supreme from 1965, the year of their marriage in Juárez: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll3CMgiUPuU).
2) Think of a story of the meeting of future lovers that you'd like to tell. Preferably, it will be a real story from the history of a friend or a family member, or from your own personal history. For example - it could be the moment your parents first met, or the moment they fell in love. Gather information about that scene and briefly describe it.
3) Experiment with a video camera. It could be a DSLR camera, or your phone's video camera. Until the day we first meet for the workshop, gather 5 short clips on the topic, at least some of them should be depicting people.

The emotions this song evokes in me...can’t really put it into words, but it’s definitely one of my top favorite songs all of time and that’s a huge statement considering I like A LOT of music. It’s just such a perfect song ✨

If you’re into Coltrane, you probably already know that the lost album was released today. Here it is on Spotify.
For those of you who are into Jazz, but not enough to know that a new Coltrane album dropped today: this is a collection of recordings that were presumed lost, but recently found. It’s sessions from 1963, I think. I’ve only listened to the first half, but I absolutely adore it.
