The last episode of the original run of Quantum Leap aired on May 5, 1993. Almost everyone in the episode appeared in previous episodes or reference previously mentioned characters. In theory, Sam lept into himself in August 8, 1953 in a mining town, but it appeared he had actually lept into some kind of limbo possibly meeting God. It was implied that Sam was the one controlling his leaps. Sam went on to alter Al's life. A title card at the end revealed that Sam never returned home again. THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS The Dominican Angelic Doctor Feast Day: January 28
"Beware the man of a single book."
One of the great Christian theologians, Dominican priest, and later Doctor of the Church, was born Tommaso d'Aquino in circa 1225 in the Kingdom of Sicily at Roccasecca, a town and comune in the Province of Frosinone in the region of Lazlo (present-day Lazio, Italy), in the castle of his father, Landulf of Aquino. He was born to the most powerful branch of the family, and Landulf of Aquino was a man of means. Thomas's mother, Theodora, belonged to the Rossi branch of the Neapolitan Caracciolo family.
Thomas made the first schooling in the Benedictine monastery of Monte Cassino, and his higher studies at the University of Naples (University of Naples Federico II). There, he was attracted by the Dominicans (Order of Preachers), and, at the age of 19, he took the Dominican habit.
Landulf and Theodora, his parents, who wanted him to join the Benedictines, were angered by his decision and brought him back by force as the prisoner in his castle of Monte San Giovanni Campano. Thomas was held prisoner for almost one year in the family castles at Monte San Giovanni and Roccasecca in an attempt to prevent him from assuming the Dominican habit and to push him into renouncing his new aspiration. In order to undermine his vocation, his brothers introduced a woman into his cell, but Thomas seized a burning brand from the fire and chased her away. After two years of captivity, his family gave in and permitted him to return to his Order.
In 1245, Thomas was sent to Parish to study at the Faculty of the Arts at the University of Paris under Albertus Magnus (Albert the Great). Because of his bulky figure and silence, he was nicknamed, the 'Dumb Ox'. Albert rebuked his companions and said: 'You may call him the dumb ox; but I tell you, that he will make his voice heard to the farthest parts of the earth.'
After securing his master's degree in theology, Thomas lectured and preached in many places very successfully, giving the example of wisdom, prayer and humility. He declared that he had learnt more at the foot of the crucifix than from books. About the year 1266, he began Summa Theologica (Summary of Theology), which is considered to be the theological book ever written.
One day, a voice from the crucifix of the altar said to him: 'You have written well of me, Thomas. What reward would you like to have?' To which Thomas answered: 'Nothing but yourself, Lord.'
Thomas spent many hours of the day in prayer, and often times he fell into ecstasy. On December 6th, the feast of St. Nicholas, in the year 1271, he was celebrating Mass when he received a revelation from heaven. Afterwards, he wrote no more and said to his brothers: 'The end of my labors has come. All that I have written appears to be as straw after the things that have been revealed to me.'
Pope Gregory X convened the Second Council of Lyon and summoned Thomas to attend, until he fell seriously sick and took refuge at the Fossanova Abbey, which is operated by the Cistercians, where he received the last sacraments. Upon receiving Holy Communion, he said: 'I am receiving you, prince of my soul's redemption. All my studies, my vigils, and my labors have been for love of you.'
Two days later on March 7, 1274, while giving commentary on the Song of Songs, Thomas passed away, being only 49 years of age.
Thomas is canonized as a saint by Pope John XXII in Avignon on July 18, 1323 and declared Doctor of the Church by Pope St. Pius V two centuries later in 1567. Thomas had the honor of having his Summa Theologiae placed on the altar alongside the Bible and the Decretals at the Council of Trent. His major shrine can be found at the Church of the Jacobins in Toulouse, France.

2023 Horror Challenge: [53/?]
↳“God damn you!"
"He already has, son. He already has." Pumpkinhead (1988) dir. Stan Winston
Plot: After a tragic accident, a man conjures up a towering, vengeful demon called Pumpkinhead to destroy a group of unsuspecting teenagers.
Starring: Lance Henriksen, John D'Aquino, Jeff East & Cynthia Bain
I think I've wanted to watch this thing before seeing it briefly mentioned in In Search of Darkness but what little we saw made me even more intrigued. At least to see why it's considered a cult classic. Not to mention, seeing it included on AMC's schedule for their Halloween movie marathon so I figured I finally watch it. And you know, I get it. Special effect-wise it's definitely an event, it being Stan Winston's directorial debut. I may not have known his name before the documentary but now knowing he's done the effects for things like Terminator or Predator, it definitely makes sense why that was a big deal for him to do it. They wisely don't show the monster too much in the beginning so it adds a little anticipation once we get a proper reveal and man, that thing was hideous. lol And creepy. So, kudos to him creating something that was very memorable. Lance Hendriksen did a wonderful job as usual. The menacing look on his face once he discovers his son after the dirt bike accident gave me chills. I felt for his character. I wouldn't say most of the other actors are quite on par with his level but that was fine once we got to the actual Pumpkinhead parts. The eerie vibes were flowing by that point. Old lady Haggis was pretty creepy herself too to be honest. lol Overall, I really liked the concept and I do get why it is a favorite for some. Pretty deserving to be considered an 80's horror classic.

Pumpkinhead (1988)
Tumblr media
Pumpkinhead isn't a particularly frightening or suspenseful or horror film but I still find myself recommending it. The acting is pretty good, the special effects are terrific and the story original.
Ed Harley (Henriksen) has just learned that his son has been killed. The teenagers who ran him over just left him behind to die. Filled with a desire for vengeance, Harley calls upon a vengeful demon to make them pay. This vengeance, he soon realizes, comes at a cost too high for even him to pay.
I know Pumpkinhead has its work cut out for it due to that title but it works when you see it play out. Set in a remote area in the southern United States, there’s something otherworldly about the land. The isolation, the slow crippling heat that compels people to laze around, the natural mythology of the south makes this strange tale feel like the origin of an urban legend. You assume “Pumpkinhead” is the name people give to the monster because everyone who knew what it was actually called is long gone. It's an effort to get people not to take the macabre tale too seriously but everyone knows, deep down, it's a very real evil.
The characters are more developed than you'd assume. Ed and his son make for a sweet, believable family. I’m always wary of child actors, particularly in horror films, where the acting can often be sub-par. Young Matthew Hurley is great in his role. When the kid got hurt, I felt genuinely upset because I'd grown to like him. Similarly, I thought the teenagers -for what they are- were well developed too. They give a legitimate explanation for their actions and are foolish but generic bullies. While there isn’t much tension in the scenes where Pumpkinhead is walking around killing these teenagers, seeing them try to figure out if they should stay with the injured boy, run away, find a scapegoat to blame or do something else and then have their decision literally come back to haunt them makes you unsure how to feel about either camp.
The titular monster lacks personality. It does have a supernatural element to it that you haven't been before, however, and the special effects are terrific. I would have expected nothing less of Stan Winston.
It’s funny that the elements you'd expect the film to put all its efforts into do not achieve the same level as what you assumed would be afterthoughts like the characters, drama, and original mythology. Pumpkinhead is skillfully brought to life but it looks more like an alien than a demon. The kills? not particularly interesting because Pumpkinhead is nothing more than a monster who grabs people and tosses them around until they’re dead.
I’m unsure who will enjoy Pumpkinhead more; hardcore horror fans will want to check it out as a curiosity, casual movie-viewers won’t really find it frightening... maybe special effects enthusiasts? Ultimately the ideas and story (particularly the ending, which is terrific) are more interesting than the final results. It’s more of a rental than a forgotten classic. It's still far better than anything titled Pumpkinhead has any right to be. (Fullscreen version on DVD, December 30, 2014)
