LINK NELLE STORIE | RECENSIONE | "LA COSA" DI JOHN W. CAMPBELL, @delos.digital Racconto o romanzo breve (le pagine complessive sono 84), “La Cosa” è letteralmente una pietra miliare della fantascienza, sfuggita ormai a qualsiasi catalogazione temporale, potendo benissimo essere stato scritto in qualsiasi epoca. La storia è un classico del genere che racconta una situazione “tipica”, replicata e rimaneggiata un’infinità di volte: sotto i ghiacci dell’antartico un gruppo di ricercatori scopre intrappolato tra i ghiacci un veicolo spaziale alieno, precipitato sulla Terra milioni di anni prima. Poco distante viene rinvenuto il corpo apparentemente senza vita di una creatura mostruosa, sulla quale scienziati e militari intendono condurre i propri esperimenti per studiarne l’origine e le caratteristiche. On this day in history . 21st March 1871 . . Princess Louise married John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle . (2.)The Wedding; . ◼ Queen Victoria found it difficult to let go of her daughter, confiding in her journal that she "felt painfully the thought of losing her". The new breach in royal tradition caused surprise, especially in Germany, & Queen Victoria wrote to the Queen of Prussia that princes of small impoverished German houses were "very unpopular" in Britain & that Lord Lorne, a "person of distinction at home" with "an independent fortune" was "really no lower in rank than minor German Royalty". . ◼ The ceremony was conducted at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on 21 March 1871, & the crowd outside was so large that, for the first time, policemen had to form chain barriers to keep control. Louise wore a wedding veil of Honiton lace that she designed herself, & was escorted into the Chapel by her mother, & her two eldest brothers, the Prince of Wales & the Duke of Edinburgh. . ◼ On this occasion, the usually severe black of the Queen's mourning dress was relieved by the crimson rubies & blues of the Garter star. Following the ceremony, the Queen kissed Louise, & Lorne – now a member of the royal family, but still a subject – kissed the Queen's hand. . ◼ The couple then journeyed to Claremont in Surrey for the honeymoon, but the presence of attendants on the journey, & at meal times, made it impossible for them to talk privately. The short four-day visit did not pass without an interruption from the Queen, who was curious about her daughter's thoughts on married life. I'd first read about @lambofgod in a 2002 Guitar World article covering the top #undergroundheavymetal bands of that time. LOG released their first album, New American Gospel two years earlier. A year later WSOU began playing the tracks "Ruin" and #11th Hour" off the regular. They were of this upcoming, new release from LOG called As The Palaces Burn on @prostheticrecords...and both tracks kicked serious ass. I BOUGHT ATPB on the week of its release at Sam Goody on a Friday night before being abducted by some younger kids who felt bad(?) that I was sitting by myself at Johnny Rockets. I can't make that up. What took me by surprise more than ANYTHING else was seeing that, while there weren't too many guitar solos on the record (that'd change over time!), the track "Purified" featured a badass guitar solo by ex-Megadeth guitarist @chrispoland_official. CHRIS FUCKING POLAND!!!!!! Turns out the band are Megadeth disciples all the way down to their sometimes political lyrics What was more? The album was also produced by @dvntownsend, then of Strapping Young Lad. He to me was the Todd Rundgren of #extrememetal, so you knew he wasn't producing anything short of true QUALITY metal. As fate would have it, ATPB would sell 100,000 copies, much like @shadowsfallband did with The Art Of Balance, in a time where albums sales were dying, and earned themselves their first major label deal a yearly later. Ashes of the Wake is the fourth studio album and first major label released by @lambofgod , in 2004 via @epicrecords The album debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200, selling 35,000 copies in its first week and was rated by Guitar World as the 49th greatest Guitar Album of all Time.[ This album also was rated by @mhammer666 as the 5th greatest Metal Album of The 21st Century. #tbt singing RUIN w @lambofgod at their Richmond m’f’in VA practice pad as seen on their 2014 film AS THE PALACES BURN (bonus DVD) ⬅️SWIPE LEFT TO SEE VIDEO⬅️ I went to R-VA the day prior to interview all the guys for huge @sxmliquidmetal @siriusxm week special surrounding Resolution release. The next day they were about to start rehearsing for 1st time I think they said in like 9 months or so, and when I got there @drandallblythe was in his truck parked outside doing phone interview. I walked inside, hung w @adler_chris @willadler @jayceerva & @mark.duane.morton for a bit when they were itching to start practice. Chris asked me if I can sing any #LambOfGod songs? I said FUK-NO not like Randy and anyways who knows what the fuk he’s saying!?! He said what about “Ruin” and I sort of knew that one and said yes let’s do it. Pulled up lyrics on my phone and did the best I could do under the circumstance. Looking back all these years later, I feel like it came out pretty darn cool! The Wedding Dress; . . ◼ She married the Marquis of Lorne, the heir to the 8th Duke of Argyll, on 21 March 1871 at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. . ◼ Louise wore a white silk wedding gown, heavily decorated with national & royal symbols, with deep flounces of flower-strewn Honiton lace, & a short wedding veil of Honiton lace that she designed herself & was held in place by two diamond daisy hair pins presented by her siblings, Princes Arthur & Leopold & Princess Beatrice. The hair pins were supplied by Garrard. . ◼ The tulip brooches are now the property of Princess Michael of Kent, whose husband received them as a legacy from his mother HRH Princess Marina, who may have received them from Princess Louise as a gift. . ◼ A beautiful bracelet was a present from her fiancé. The centre could be worn as a pendant ornament, with a large & fine sapphire mounted with brilliants & pearls & pearl drop. Princess Louise wore this pendant on a diamond necklace on her wedding day, & it can be seen in her wedding photographs.
