"So... how fast can you really go?"

The blue-haired Italian looked up quickly, surprised to see you looking over the ice-rink railing at him with interest. Even though you were both set to be on the Olympic team, he barely ever talked to the figure skaters like you. Although, he admitted to himself that he'd spent many a day admiring the grace you exhibited on the ice. "...what?" he asked, still a little stunned that you were actually talking to him.

You giggled a little, which made his ears heat up. "How fast can you go? I watch you guys sometimes, and it's a little scary to see you go so quickly."

"Oh!" Ghiaccio quickly stood up from where he had sat to take his skates off. He crossed his arms and pouted at you. "I think my highest speed was about 35 miles an hour-"

"What?!" Your stunned exclamation cut him off. "That's crazy! Are you sure-"

"Yes, I'm sure," he snapped, realizing that he was a little harsh when you suddenly fell silent, mumbling an apology. "Oh, er- sorry, I just wasn't finished." He cleared his throat and gave you what he hoped was a pleasant smile. He wasn't good at this type of thing. "Anyway, we speed skaters basically run on the ice, and try and stay as aerodynamic as possible." He held up his skate to show you. "See? The blade is only a millimeter thick."

He smirked to himself internally as your eyes widened. "Wow... My skates are a lot thicker, I don't think I could balance on those."

Ghiaccio shrugged. "Well, you need to balance... you guys do some pretty amazing stuff too. Those twirls? Yours are always perfect..." His voice trailed off and he realized that you were avoiding his gaze. Oops, maybe I just made things awkward! Gah! Why do I always do this! She's pretty, too.

He let the silence sit just a moment longer before speaking again, looking down sheepishly at his feet."Well, I could tell you more about it over dinner."

You looked up immediately. "Really? Sure! Let me take my skates off. You're Ghiaccio, right?"

"Yeah, that's me. And-"

"I'm (name)."

Ghiaccio was a little surprised that it worked, but eagerly went and packed his things as you did the same. He knew that he was a difficult person to deal with. The other speed skaters were a little afraid of him, as he would sometimes have violent, angry outbursts on the turn of a hat. He hated being embarrassed, or losing, and that was how he dealt with it. But now, he felt oddly calm as the two of you walked out of the building and down the street, looking for a place to eat. You ended up settling on a burger place a few blocks away, and spent the entire time chatting away happily. It wasn't often that Ghiaccio let his guard down like this, but you were so friendly and inquisitive, he couldn't help it. Eventually, he was comfortable enough to tease you.

"A lot of first-time speed skaters go flying head over heels, I'd like to see you try," he taunted lightly, sipping at his drink.

"Oh? That sounds a bit compromising," you shot back cheekily. You didn't manage to get a blush out of him, but the small furrow of his brows did not go unnoticed. "I bet you'd trip over your own feet if you tried figure skating."

Ghiaccio raised an eyebrow from behind his red-rimmed glasses. "Oh yeah? I doubt it. I can be graceful, too, you know."

"Really? You have yet to offer up any proof of that." She openly smirked as he opened his mouth and started ranting about how he didn't need to, his performance as a Speed skater would certainly translate into a goo figure skating performance as well. "But you can prove it to me later," she cut in, silencing his words. "Walk me home?"

A lot of the skaters here training for the Olympics were staying in hotels in the area, and yours wasn't that far. You and Ghiaccio kept up your banter as you walked, but eventually fell into a comfortable silence, one that you eventually broke as you stopped in front of your hotel. "So... I guess we'll be seeing a lot of each other. They're keeping all the skaters together."

Ghiaccio nodded, glancing over at you. "Yeah... seems like it." He gulped. After today, a gold medal wasn't the only thing he would be after... "Is that a good thing?"

You turned your gaze over to him, and his heart jumped a little at the eye contact. You stared at him with suspicious eyes for a moment. Shit, she didn't like that, did she?

Then, she broke the facade, letting herself smile brightly, more brightly than anyone had smiled at Ghiaccio before.

"Of course! Between you and me-"  She smirked and leaned in a little, lowing her voice to sound a bit sultry. "I'm looking forward to knowing you really well, Ghiaccio." With that, she planted a quick, innocent kiss on his cheek and turned away before he could process what was happening. His mind had shorted out for a moment, but then the color returned to his cheeks.

"Hey, wait a second! You can't just say something like that and then leave! What were you thinking? Hey! At least give me your number! HEY!"

You giggled and disappeared inside, leaving an indignant yet ecstatic Ghiaccio behind.

billy is low key a skater boy - he skateboards 🛹🛹 converse high tops, ripped black jeans with bandaids on his knees, and oversized stolen boyfriend jean jackets rolled sleeves god yes he skates 🛹🛹 he and tommy will team up just to be bastards for like ten minutes and do that synchronized talking just to both annoy and creep the hell out of eli and kate

tommy is a rollerskater - and roller blades - the twins are skaters, he totally would have been a roller derby kid i tell you, also quoting everything he hears on the internet “what are you doing out here with all that ass double checked up on a thursday afternoon hella ass” “tommy that’s just a fat pigeon stOP” and even tho he did have a hard time for a while to open up to everyone and be emotional in front of the people he loves, with the help of everyone, he’s slowly learning he can confine in people and have relationships and bonds and that enough is to make me cry at night, i love thomas shepherd and his character so much

kate is always hung over, even when she isn’t - sunglasses on, looking like every day is too much for her head to handle especially with all these dumbass clumsy boys she gotta deal with, just let her chill with cassie at lakes and look at fireflies, but that lake better have good service so she can text billy the first scoop on that celebrity goosip - they’ve been following this shit for weeks, phone service don’t let her down now

teddy is an artist, sketching like always ya know, usually billy ends up unconsciously being most of the drawings, but his favorites to use is watercolor, pretty flat colors and making his friends look all blushy in drawings, the group doesn’t believe him when he says that they’re all cute so he’s made it his life goal to keep complimenting him cause he’s the nicest boy alive - a stranger calls bee cute, teddy will nod and agree because truetrue, but will send a semi threatening death glare

nate is like the teenager that will go on walks by himself and end up stumbling upon abandoned and creepy places and then either like billy/eli/or cassie ends up getting a call at one in the morning because he got either kinda lost or kinda stuck and the gang needs to come get him - he and eli probably have matching jojo clothing merch but eli is a repressed nerd so rip nate who just wants to have matching jojo sweatpants when they go work out together

eli may or may not have done the jojo pose trend of anime characters in the studio he does his boxing and martial arts, katie and cassie may or may not both of saved the video, eli is actually a total repressed nerd but won’t admit it and tommy can totally see it, nate can also see it, why do you think these three argue so much - nate just wants to be anime buddies i tell you - eli is someone who feels very strongly about injustice and gets emotional when all his friends back him up when he speaks out about it - please i need to see eli bradley in more comic books, give him and tommy the fame they deserve

cassie went to the broug and got herself some frogs - not only do i not know if i’m spelling that right or what it is, i just saw the tik tok and the cassie energy was too strong, she likes froggies and makes those tiny moss environments in jars and she likes to chill in nature and steal nate’s flannels and when her, katie, and billy are hanging out, cassie and billy will be gushing about boyfriends ya know with katie making gagging noises in the background

david is that dude that can just read people but is also like really chill about it “like yeah i totally just did a mental psychoanalysis on you just by who your kins are, but i know that you get kinda guarded about it so i won’t say anything because i love and respect you” i love david a lot okay, - he’s also resident technology please make work or i need you to look at this video or photo and prove this shit guy - he’s fixed poor nate has somehow flung this thing across the room like four times now phone on more occasions then he can count but he’s pretty chill about it

noh-varr is a non binary asexual dork that likes aliens and video games, he has a jacket that’s green and has a human getting picked up by a ufo that only says “fuck this. i’m out.” 🛸🛸 and him and katie have given poor mom of the group teddy a heart attack on more than one occasion being deadass serious about storming area 51

america has got her hat on backwards and is ready to fucking party and to mess around with her friends, the best part of her day is to get stuck in abandoned places and flirt with katie, her and noh varr go randonauting like every other day and get so lost, then her and the chaotic twins team up to be mischievous little bastards, her and teddy did pride and racial injustice movement graffiti that one time and she really just here to be the most badass around and protect their group and also like the whole world

billy is a film kid, like in a non powers au, he’s the dude that literally does all film related classes and is gonna be a film major and the best sfx make up artist, knows all movies/quotes/and endings - he’s the kid that knows the sfx stuff too well, he will liquid latex and cotton ball zombie your ass up if you let him to - you can’t tell me that his favorite genre of movies is horror monster and aliens, but also those pretty aesthetic romance ones that take place in country side france in small towns

some newsie concepts that you can pry from my cold, dead hands: *not a comprehensive list*

tommy boy, albert, and sniper // the skaters that’s right, all three of these idiots have skateboards that they ride on at night and albert definitely has all of the videos and pictures on his tumblr because albert is a tumblr boy in a modern au, fite me. sniper would convince the boys to do really stupid stuff and had the loudest laugh. tommy boy would try to buy mcdonalds through the drive-through on their skateboards. it was a party.

ike, race, and romeo // chaos ike and race are the most chaotic duo, quote me on that. and with romeo there?? these guys exist to just be overly obnoxious and loud and give everyone a migraine. race is a meme, ike is a prankster, and romeo is the definition of extra. 

buttons, jojo, and kenny // sweet boys omg. this is the sweetest group of boys you will ever meet. chivalry?? they are defending and defining it. and they are very smiley too. Buttons has always just told a joke and jojo is chucking and shaking his head while kenny is trying to not choke on his drink. they are also strangely good at giving advice.

mush, blink, and finch // boyfriend material these guys are actually pretty chill. are they goofy?? 10/10. but they are definitely the group everyone has a crush on but are always single because they are too busy going to the mall and being dumb in the food court.

jack, mike, and smalls // the artists the perfect trio of artists - jack’s the angsty one that has a huge santa fe motif throughout everything he does, mike is the emotional one that has paintings and sketches of hot shot his hardcore crush and things that ‘encite deep emotion’, smalls is the happy-go-lucky one that is full of random ideas at 1 o'clock in the morning. they bounce ideas off of each other and are very good at hyping each other. smalls sends them bad puns about artists.

bill, darcy, and katherine // the original trio a truly iconic trio, these guys are all about the dry sarcasm and getting together for study dates. they are the friends that sit at a coffee shop and pine over their love interests, finch, romeo, and sarah respectively, and make plans to go to the same college and get an apartment together. they ignore the rest of the newsies antics 90% of the time.

davey, specs, and sarah // concerned specs is the mom friend and davey and sarah are like the uncle/aunt that live in the house with the mom and give their opinion on the children. at this point they know the newsies can’t be stopped and just wait to patch everything up. they are concerned 142% of the time and are the only thing holding the group chat together.

jack, crutchie, and race // the holy trinity they collectively can control the newsies when they work together. jack is constantly confiding in crutchie and race at different times and race would protect crutchie with his life. when something is about to go down the three of them know and they stop it from going south. all the newsies forget how close they are until someone says something and jack is about to murder them for going after race like that.

spot, tommy boy, and hot shot // solidarity they may not always hang out, but they are tight af. there is most definitely a secret handshake that they all know, and there is most definitely some kind of sinister ring in their separate group chat - or so everyone thinks. really, it’s just a chat full of insults they have used, angsty songs they’ve listened to, and dank memes they found. they also share a collective twitter that has blown up for being very savage yet educational in a very odd way.

elmer, les, and crutchie // secret smiles so when we think of these three we all are like, awwww, they are so cute. dimples for days. but secretly they pull the best pranks on jack and somehow race always gets blamed for it. they are the reason davey’s blood pressure is so high and no one ever suspects them. they’re always swiping cookies when darcy stress bakes

henry, romeo, and finch // the drama kids these three are a bundle of pent-up, nervous energy that no one really knows what to do with, so they are constantly making a scene of things or being really extra. henry and romeo actually do musicals and theatre, and they can sometimes rope finch into being an actor in their three-man rendition of hamilton. it’s very obnoxious. albert is dying on the inside when they are in the same room as him.

albert, race, and les // viners they loved vine. they made vines. they mourned the death of vine. these guys made videos on vine and made the dumbest content. i mean, race was the energy, les was the perfect, unsuspecting business child, and albert was the salt on top. what could go wrong??
