Dicks: The Musical (2023)

Dicks: The Musical has two scenes in an office setting that cut several times to a scoreboard that uses strong to extreme strobe effects. They are always brief, but they are unpredictable.

There is one spinning shot that lasts several seconds. Outside of this, all of the camera work is either stationary or very smooth.

Flashing Lights: 7/10. Motion Sickness: 2/10.

TRIGGER WARNING: Toward the end of the film, there is some incest.

Tim Baltz recommends Dicks: The Musical, starring "two of the smartest, funniest men alive," Josh Sharp and Aaron Johnson." Since Tim Baltz is one of the smartest, funniest men alive himself, that's high praise. I haven't actually seen it - it is not playing in any theater near me, so I'll have to wait until it drops on MAX on October 25th.

But the trailer looks queer af. Check out the movie posters:

The premise: alpha male entitled jerks Craig and Trevor discover that they are "identical twins." They decide to get their estranged parents back together, so they can "be a family." Yep, The Parent Trap. with gay actors playing straight guys.

Problem: Dad (Nathan Lane) has come out as gay, and Mom (Megan Mullally) has had her genitals fall off.

Megan Thee Stallion, whom I've never heard of but is apparently famous, plays the guys' boss. There are weird, disgusting gremlins named Sewer Boys.

And Bowen Yang makes an appearance as God.

Swap au headcanons dump. Normal pet au, humans can come along later

-Shivers doesn't actually have an owner. He just chooses to hang out there, and Mrs. Twombly kinda lets him. But she does make sure he's healthy, taking him to the vet and so.

-Instead of a fashion show, Josh put on a musical concert to save the pet shop (Josh's Big Adventure lmao)

-Josh loves all the daycampers, but he hangs out with Scarletta the most. She loves music, so does he, it's adorable. It's kinda the way I headcanon Blythe and Russell's dynamic.

-Shahrukh and Felina are kinda like Zoe in the sense that their fame has died down, which is why they live relatively normal lives and go to the daycamp so often without much concern. Though they always craveee attention, Felina mostly getting it online (I have no idea how a cat has her own phone but whatever) while Shahrukh prefers his attention in person.

In diesem Zusammenhang fällt mir auf, daß ich (mit einer gewissen Berechtigung) Dicks: The Musical unterschlagen habe. Der Titel hat mich angesprochen, und daß Nathan Lane mitspielt. Es ist noch viel unsäglicher, als Sie jetzt denken. Ich würde sagen, The Sound of Music wäre einmal wieder angebracht.

“Dicks” The Musical” is like a raunchy version of “The Parent Trap” that’s trying so very hard to be funny, likeable, and edgy that it fails at all of it. Needlessly crude and profane, director Larry Charles and co-writers and stars Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp (adapted from their two-man stage show) put in overtime with their attempts to be as offensive as possible, and it all reeks of the sad…
