Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.

New rare Super Klenk images found
Tumblr media
Super Klenk, starring Ara Mina, was a Filipino superhero comedy action series that debuted in the final weeks of 1999, and is possibly one of the most obscure superhero tv shows of recent times. And that's a shame... because despite apparently not making much of an impact at the time of broadcast, the show does play an interesting part in Pinoy superhero tv history.
Tumblr media
Up until Super Klenk there had been only sporadic appearances of superheroes and superheroines on Filipino tv. In 1977 Darna had appeared in a one or two (depending on who you believe) tv specials. Then in 1986 two companion superhero shows, Kidlat and Zarda Super Filipino, are rumoured to have been broadcast (although details are sparse.) But the heavily fantasy inspired fantaserye and telefantasya genres didn't really seem to take off until the 2004 ratings hit Marina, a series about a mermaid.
Marina prompted a steady supply of fantasy-based shows, including several based on superheroes, that has lasted up until the modern day. Early examples, like Krystala (2004) with Judy Ann Santos, Darna (2005) with Angel Locsin, and Darna (2009) with Marian Rivera, are all fondly remembered. But sadly few remember Ara Mina's Super Klenk, the 1999 superheroine show that was their forerunner.
Tumblr media
This blog has been trying to correct the dearth of Super Klenk information by tracking down details of this incredibly obscure tv show. You can see past efforts documented here, here, here, and here. But details have been painfully slow in revealing themselves. Particularly there's still a real lack of images from the show, and only a single tiny fragment of video taken from a trailer advert.
But that has now changed... just a little.
Thanks to a source who wishes to remain anonymous we're able to present a couple of new photos from Super Klenk. And they're pretty decent quality images too -- indeed, the most high quality pictures to date. One image even shows a scene apparently taken from an episode, featuring Ara Mina alongside her co-stars Paolo Fabregas and Jaime Fabregas.
Tumblr media
The new pictures throw up some interesting questions about Ara Mina's costume. As it is possible to see from the various assembled images, it appeared to change quite a bit.
In older photos the costume body either appears quite plain with the cape totally detached, or decorated in sparkles with the cape secured under the arms. But these new photos show a plain body with a cape that is attached onto the body itself. (The dark stripes in one photo may possibly be a trick of the light -- or maybe not.) One photo looks like it was taken during filming, so do the other pictures show early prototypes from the costume's development?
Unless we can get hold of more details, specifically clips or images from the episodes themselves, it will be difficult to answer those questions. We can but hope that there's more hidden Super Klenk material out there just waiting to be discovered.
In the meantime, many thanks to the anonymous source who provided the new pictures.

On a Friday night, iniiyakan ko 'yung cdrama. Hahaha. In fairness, less ang pabebe moments, mas maraming confrontation. Less din ang paliguy-ligoy.
Nakaka-touch 'yung mga usapan nila about family problems. Differences in personality at point of view na talaga minsan. Much wow.
Bonus point talaga na dito, kasal na from the start 'yung childfree couple.
To be fair, naiisip ko madalas 'yung Hanggang Kailan Kita Mamahalin (1997) nina Lorna Tolentino at Richard Gomez. Tinamaan ang pride niya which caused more problems for their family. For me... masterpiece 'yon.
Hindi naman need maging serious all the time 'yung tema, pwede namang entertaining pero may depth.
Oh well, sa bagay, baka magkaroon ng maraming basher dito sa Pinas pag nagkaroon ng palabas about living a childfree BUT HAPPY AND CONTENTED life... or poverty porn.
Speaking of movie nina Lorna T, hindi na siya applicable ngayon kasi bawal na madalas 'yang mga mag-asawa sa same department or company, 'di ba? Pero just saying, hindi siya imposible at all. Sana mabigyan ng chance 'yung ibang brilliant script at scriptwriters out there.

Hi tor! Do you have any favorite filipino film/s na parang you can base or make a story of? Just like in ILGOSS? tnx author!
Just curious hahahaha
#UyPhilippines
Hello!
Hmm... Honestly, I'm a fan of older filipino films, so I'm not sure if you're going to be familiar with them. I did like the premise of My Amnesia Girl (tho not a fan of Toni and John Lloyd). I was drawn to the generation of Claudine Baretto and Judy Ann Santos. I particularly loved Milan.
Sorry if my answer is disappointing!

Me At The Movies 2023
I'm not sure, but I think the first movie I ever saw in theaters was a Judy Ann Santos x Wowee De Guzman movie because my grandmother, who raised me while my parents were busy at work, was a big Juday stan. She took me to see Filipino films, then Disney films, then the Harry Potter films. These were the three main genres of my childhood and I have strong core memories of them all, at least one frame from each movie that's forever in the powerpoint presentation of my life.
Like a lot of people, it took me a while to get back into watching movies at theaters post-pandemic. Especially now that I'm old and grown and movie theaters are increasingly more expensive, I consider watching movies more of a luxury rather than a hobby. And now that it's nearing December and the weather is ripe for introspection and reflection, I think one thing that brought me a lot of joy this year were the movie-going experiences I had. Each one was delightful, enjoyable, and made vastly better by being at the theater as opposed to just watching on my laptop at home.
So while I have time, this is my little ode to the movies of 2023.
Elemental
Tumblr media
I watched this with my coworkers at Uptown Mall in BGC. It was our first hangout outside of work, and it really solidified the relationships we had coming from a workforce of like, six people. (Since then, we have grown to ten people! + three staff!) As for the movie, I honestly didn't think it was Disney's strongest, but I loved the animation, the concept, and the Lauv song. If I was the only one watching it, I would've gone away thinking that the metaphor for the immigrant experience felt a little too simplified, and the central love story was mostly okay but not that necessary to drive the point home. But as I watched it with a coworker who bawled her eyes out, I ended up thinking about what made the movie and the experience meaningful and relatable, and ended up thinking that its simplicity was one of the film's strengths.
Barbie
Tumblr media
I absolutely loved this experience. It was another movie I watched at Uptown Mall this time with my sister and Colleen. I don't have to tell you about my thoughts on the movie because it has been analyzed to death, but I will say that I greatly enjoyed it. Margot Robbie was perfect, beautiful, and delightfully nuanced while playing a doll and, Ryan Gosling was hilariously hammy. There's always something deeply touching about inanimate objects experiencing life for the first time. I felt so happy and blessed to be human, and to be part of this large scale phenomenon where everyone dressed up in pink to watch a movie about a doll. We were the first in line for our showing, and I will forever remember seeing everyone come out of the previous showing in their Barbie best - kids in their jackets and pink sneakers, adults in outfits that ran the gamut from adorable to kitsch to sexy to avant-garde. Man, it just made me so happy.
Aftersun
Tumblr media
I love watching movies alone, and when I saw that a series of global indie movies were being shown at Greenbelt for cheap, I couldn't say no. Lately, I've begun to spend more intentional time with myself, and it's been fantastic. Aftersun isn't the happiest movie, but unlike the others where I was glad to have someone share the joy and delight with, I was glad to be able to sit with its deep cuts into my memory on my own. Watching it alone gave me so much space to deal with the feelings it brought up and I got to take the time to bask in that unforgettable feeling after a good movie where the world feels like its full of new meaning.
Past Lives
Tumblr media
Probably my favorite movie of the year? I think a lot of people found it a little lacking and were craving for a bit more closure at the end, but I found its restraint really resonated with me. Despite not being Korean, Canadian, or American, I feel like I have a lot of personal connections to this movie, to the point that the dialogue between Nora and Haesung feels like something I might have dreamed up myself. I watched this movie at Central Square with my sister, who I spend maybe 85% of my life with and is one of the only people I will talk to about such big feelings.
My Shinee World
Tumblr media
My most recent theater experience is one I had with Colleen at SM Megamall. I don't really consider myself a Shawol, but Shinee has always had a place in my heart. I've known about them even before I got into kpop and a lot of their music has just been around in kdramas and music videos on TV as I grew up. And even after my kpop conversion, I found that I just really like their music, old and new, and they're just generally a really solid, talented group. I really loved how this documentary/concert movie was structured, with the members talking about their journey in between stages, which themselves were stage mixes of their performances from their concerts. There was also the framing device of the members being in a Shawol's room, which evolved as the fan grew with the group, the merch, albums, and posters on her walls and shelves changing in step as the group released more music. I loved that level of immersion that made even me, a casual fan, really feel like I was part of their journey. There's always that layer of distance when you're participating in events of groups that aren't your ults, but there was something about this movie that felt inclusive and even cozy, like you were looking through a photo album with your friends. And I'll never forget how absolutely everyone in the theater wept when the group sang Our Page, as we all celebrated and mourned the life of a shining star.

FPJ’S ANG PROBINSYANO'S BLOODLESS GUNSHOT WOUNDS source: https://www.pep.ph/news/local/155183/teleserye-bloopers-a724-20201126-lfrm
On the episode that aired on August 19, 2019, Judy Ann Santos' character was depicted getting shot multiple times in the back by policemen. The day after, the Facebook page PGAG shared a screenshot of her character seemingly lifeless, yet curiously devoid of any visible gunshot wounds despite the previously gruesome and blood-filled scene.
The accompanying meme humorously remarked, "SHOT 4 TIMES AT THE BACK. NO GUNSHOT WOUNDS. BUT DIES." In the caption, PGAG quipped, "It's hard to remove stains from a T-shirt. Kidding aside, Mumshie Juday's acting was impressive."
Here are a few reasons why this type of mistake should be addressed, despite the acknowledgment of the excellent acting:
Consistency in Injury Presentation: If a character is shot multiple times, it's crucial for the visual representation of injuries to align with the narrative. Inconsistencies can distract viewers and diminish the impact of a dramatic moment.
Realism and Suspension of Disbelief: Viewers are more likely to be engaged in a storyline when it maintains a level of realism. Inaccuracies, such as a lack of gunshot wounds after a shooting, can break the suspension of disbelief and remind the audience that they are watching a fictional production.
Audience Observations: Viewers today are observant, and with the prevalence of social media, mistakes like these can quickly become the subject of memes and discussions. Addressing such errors demonstrates a commitment to quality and attention to detail.
Impact of Dramatic Moments: Scenes involving violence or intense emotions are designed to evoke specific reactions from the audience. Inconsistencies can dilute the impact of these moments and undermine the emotional investment that viewers have in the characters and the plot.
While the acknowledgment of great acting is valid, it's essential for filmmakers to balance the artistic merits of a performance with the need for continuity and realism in storytelling. Addressing such mistakes can contribute to a more immersive and satisfying viewing experience for the audience.
