Ooooo another one!
“ Chrissy, wake up darlin’! You can’t fade out on me now, I-“ he choked on a sob. “ I just got you back.” Reggie squeezed her tightly, tears falling onto her face as he leaned down to kiss her forehead. “ Please,” he sobbed, “ I haven’t even gotten to tell you I love you yet!” Alex slowly slid down beside him, his own wave of tears falling as he took his sisters hand in his own.
“ Please baby doll,” Reggie choked out, “ I need to tell you I love you.”
The smallest movement. Almost too small to notice, and then.
“Mmm-“ tiny and pained but still there. “ Love you too Reg.” Her voice was barely a croak as she finally opened her eyes again. “Your voice gets really cute when you’re all worked up. T’wang comes out more-“ then what could have been a giggle or a cough.

Batter Up | One Shot (Julie x fem!reader)

Batter Up | One Shot (Julie x fem!reader)
A/N: so this was a really late night thought that I kinda just word vomited. Um I didn’t really mean to post it now, but oh well! Really nice and easy with a few baseball puns to keep you laughing. I had to put the puns in - it’s the rules. Anyways, I hope y’all enjoy!
Word count: 2.3k
Warnings: swearing, typos, hella fluff
||||||
Julie knew she would regret it. She knew that as soon as she arrived at the baseball field, the boys would fuck around and cause a headache for the singer. But when three ghost boys insist on supporting her little brother, who was she to deny them? Especially when they bothered her every. second. of. the day.
“I bet I can run the bases faster than you bro!” Luke hits Alex on the chest before taking off, running straight through the fence and onto the field.
“I literally have longer legs than you!” Alex screams after him, quickly catching up to them.
Julie doesn’t even bother yelling after them, knowing that her family and other families would look at her weirdly and probably be terrified. As Alex passes first base, Julie sits down on the bench next to her dad. As Luke passes first base, the individual teams start to warm up, oblivious to the buffoons running through them.
Julie turns to her right and starts rummaging through her bag. “Shouldn’t you be running around with them?” Julie mutters to Reggie. He idly sat next to her, watching Alex absolutely destory Luke. Luke was left in the dust.
“Nah, I don’t like running around. I’ll just hang out with Ray instead.” He tilts his head towards the older Molina who was talking to another parent. Julie smiles at the gesture. She still thinks of Reggie’s one-sided friendship with her dad is both amusing and endearing.
They both just sit quietly next to each other, observing the baseball field. Julie tries to hold in her chuckle while Reggie bursts out laughing when Luke wipes out trying to catch up to Alex. The winner of their race turns around and laughs at the poor brunette before helping him up. Ever the sore loser, Luke denies his help and brushes himself off with a disgruntled look. They make their way back to the Molinas, chests heaving as they catch their breaths.
“Nice one, Alex!” Reggie high fives the drummer. Julie slyly pretends to rest her head on her fist, holding it out so that she could fist-bump Alex. He cheers as he sits down behind the pair.
“I’m sorry Luke, but that fall was epic.” Reggie then comments. Luke stands in front of them, arms crossed and pouting.
“Alex cheated! He didn’t even touch third base. He just cut the corner,” the guitarist whines. There was still sand on his jeans.
“Did not! You’re just a sore loser!” Alex exclaims, not believing his ears.
“Did too! You-“
“Hey Julie!” A voice pops up behind Luke.
The guitarist whirls around and the rest of the band looks around him to see a girl on the other side of the backstop. She had a pair of denim shorts almost hidden under a black tank top and an un-buttoned baseball jersey with Carlos’s team’s name across the chest. Her hair was covered in an LA Dodgers baseball cap, casting a shadow across her face. There was no shadow that could hide the brightness of her smile though.
“Who is that?” Reggie whispers to Julie. Alex rolls his eyes at his friend whispering for no reason.
“Hey, Y/N! How are you doing?” Julie pipes up. She hoped that the girl wouldn’t notice her nerves but her friends heard them immediately, peaking their interest.
“Good! Ready to get this game going. Is your brother ready to play? My dad’s actually excited to see how much he’s improved,” Y/N leans her forearm against the fence, genuine excitement evident in her voice. The boys didn’t miss how Y/N quickly checked out their friend.
“Yeah he is! He’s been talking about this game all week. I can’t wait to see them play.” Julie sits on her hands so that she wouldn’t fidget with them. Her friends were getting a kick out of this, never seeing the girl so nervous.
“Me too. Well, I gotta head back to the team. I’ll talk to you afterwards, yeah?” Another bright smile grows on Y/N’s face as Julie eagerly nods before she turns around and walks back to the bench.
The boys and Julie watch the girl walk away. They were giddy with excitement as they so clearly saw the spark between their singer and the baseballl girl. Each pair of ghost eyes turn to Julie, observing her look to Y/N wantonly. The girl shakes her head and notices all her friends staring at her.
“What?”
“Someone’s got a crush,” Luke singsongs as he sits in front of the group. The other two let out noises of agreement.
“What? No, I don’t. I don’t have a crush on Y/N,” Julie lamely scoffs. The guys start to protest and mock her. Their voices rise as they try to imitate the girl, pretending to throw themselves after Y/N. “Okay! Okay, maybe I do have a crush on her.”
“She is cute,” Reggie nods in approval, showing his support.
“Yeah, she is. Her dad is Carlos’s coach. Her brother’s on the team too. She grew up playing softball and likes to be an assistant for the team.”
“So she’s cute and athletic. Nice.” Alex chimes in, also showing his support.
They hear a whistle and see that the game is about to start. Everyone quiets down as the teams take their place on the field and start playing. The boys take the time to observe the assistant for a little bit while Julie gets lost in thought. Y/N was sitting next to one of the players, gesturing at the field and giving pointers. They thought she was pretty as she threw her head back in laughter.
“So, you gonna ask her out?” Luke asks.
“What! No! I can’t ask her out!” Julie yells out before quieting down, hoping no one noticed her outburst.
“She’s way out of my league. No pun intended.” She rolls her eyes as the guys’ snickers.
“She is not out of your league, Julie!”
“Yeah! And she seems to be into you too.” Luke wiggles his eyebrows at the girl who continued to shake her head in denial.
“Y’all are crazy. She does not like me!” Julie says before cheering as one of her brother’s teammates reaches first base.
“Yes, she does! I can prove it to you,” Reggie says with determination.
He gets up and marches through the field and to the benches where Y/N sat. The guys whoop for their friend while Julie is horrified. Her heart races as Reggie reaches Y/N. He sits down, thankfully an empty space next to her. Julie waited for him to start coming back, but he doesn’t. Throughout the game, he sits there. Julie switches her gaze between the actual game, Y/N, and Reggie, wondering what the heck was going on. Meanwhile, Alex and Luke take turns fucking around from messing with people’s foods to running aimlessly around the field. It was a disaster that no one could see but Julie.
By the 7th inning, Julie almost forgot that Reggie was missing. The game was getting more intense and her dad kept conversation up with her, commentating even though she could clearly see what was going on. She didn’t mind it though - she knew that talking helped her dad through the nerves as Carlos’s team barely keeps the lead. She jumps when Reggie poofs up next to her and pretends to swat at an imaginary bug.
“Oh my god! You’ve been over there forever!” She whispers through an almost closed mouth. The other two poof back to their spots when they see the bassist return. “What were you doing over there?”
“Eavesdropping obviously. And observing. I was basically your spy. You’re welcome.” Reggie crosses his arms and leans back, a victorious smirk on his face. Julie wishes she could hit him.
“And this is why I have to keep reminding you guys about boundaries.” Julie looks back to the field, trying to ignore her nosy bandmates.
“So what did you hear?” Luke asks, ignoring Julie’s remark. He nods his head at his friend, antsy for information.
“Well, not only did I notice her constantly sneaking looks at our little Julie here, but…” Reggie trails off. Julie sighs and turns her head to the bassist, silently glaring at him in defeat.
“Continue,” she spits out, the guys chuckling at her behavior.
“But she was talking to your dear brother about you. Apparently, she was asking your brother if you liked her. Said she hoped you did.” Luke and Alex cheer while Julie cheeks turn red at the revelation.
Their cheers were drowned out as the rest of the crowd cheered too. Julie looks back to the field to see her brother’s team celebrating their victory. Putting her racing thoughts aside, she gives her dad a celebratory hug and starts to gather their things.
“So are you gonna ask her out?” Alex asks. She ignores his question and stands up.
“You are, aren’t you?” Luke asks after Alex, but she only walks through him as they stepped down from the benches.
“You gotta ask her out now!” Reggie exclaims, attempting to get the girl to talk to them. She quickly turns towards the boys and glares at them. She waits for the crowd to start greeting their players before speaking up.
“I can’t ask her out!” She exclaims, gripping her bag at the shoulder. The guys start to protest and ask why. “Because! She’s out of my league and I’m too nervous and tons of other reasons…” Julie hangs her head.
The guys start to feel sorry for pushing their friend as she sits on the bench. They look towards Y/N who was talking to one of the parents. She notices Julie which makes her look over with worry. The assistant coach excuses herself from the conversation and starts to make her way over to the dejected girl. The guys turn back to their friend and they gather in front of her.
“Look, Julie. You clearly like her and now we know she likes you too. You’re amazing, Julie! Anyone would be lucky to go out with you,” Alex says softly.
“Yeah, and if you can get on stage in front of hundreds of people, you can do anything!” Luke adds on, confidence in his voice. She feels her mouth quirk up at her friends comforting gestures.
“Thanks guys.”
“So are you going to ask her out?” Reggie asks slowly, hope written across all their faces.
“I’ll try to,” Julie says with a little hesitance.
“Good!” Alex nods. “Because she’s heading over here right now.”
“What?”
“Hey, Julie!” All of them whip their heads to the voice just like they did earlier. “That was a great game wasn’t it?” Y/N lets out a breath and takes her hat off.
“Hey, Y/N,” the nerves come back into Julie’s voice, “it was a great game. The team did really well.”
“Don’t be nervous.” Alex says from his spot right next to her. He gestures for her to get closer. Julie gives him the side eye before taking one small step towards Y/N.
“Your brother did great too! Did you see him steal that base during the 4th inning? It was awesome!” Y/N’s compliment and smile don’t help the blood rushing to Julie’s face. Julie couldn’t help but admire the excitement that Y/N radiated as she talked about baseball.
“Yeah, it was awesome. He has some pretty great coaches.” Julie says, taking another step closer.
“Okay, Julie! Nice flirting!” Reggie comments. The guys let out silent cheers, making Julie’s cheeks heat up more in embarrassment. She wishes they would go away, but deep down she appreciated their support.
“Well, he’s a great learner too.” Y/N head starts to perk up as she notices Julie get closer to her. She could see that the girl was distracted by something, but didn’t care. Now that Julie was closer, Y/N hoped it was her making the singer blush.
“Listen, Y/N - I was wondering…” Julie throat starts to close up and her mouth goes dry.
“You got this Julie! Ask her!” Luke speaks up, almost yelling. The guys urge her with support and she clears her throat.
“I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me?” Julie says really quickly, letting the words fall out before she could put them back in her mouth.
Unbeknownst to Y/N, there were four pairs of eyes just staring at her, waiting for her answer. She almost melts at how nervous Julie was and decided to put her out of her misery.
“I’m kinda mad now - I was gonna ask you out when I got here. You beat me to it.” Y/N smirks. “Of course, I’ll go out with you!”
Julie almost couldn’t hear her say yes over the boys screaming in excitement and jumping around the girls.
“What do you say we grab some late lunch together right now?” Y/N offers.
Julie excitedly nods before grabbing her things. She turns around to see Y/N holding her hand out for her. Julie gladly grabs it, quickly noticing how perfect it fit in hers. The guys start to make kissing noises all around them and Julie tries to shoo them away subtly.
“Looks like Julie hit a homerun,” Luke says with glee.
“Yeah, you could say she hit that out of the park,” Reggie follows with a snicker.
As much as Julie wanted to turn around and beg them to stop with the baseball puns, she silently laughs at them, too elated to do otherwise. Plus, it would make a bad first impression on her date with Y/N to see her yelling at nothing.
But months down the line, when the couple are still happily together and the assistant coach knows about the boys, Y/N will say that this was probably the best first-date story she had ever heard in her life. Alex’s only response was that they get to be best men at their wedding.

Faded Memories // Julie Molina
Summary: After the death of her mother more than music is dropped from Julie’s life. Julie breaks up with her best friend turned then girlfriend Ramona. When Ramona gets closure it causes Julie remembers that Ramona was more than a girlfriend. She was her best friend too.
Warning: Swearing, talk of death, break-up, angst (ain’t new here), Julie and Ramona are ex-girlfriends and no happy ending (oops)
Characters: ex!Julie Molina x ex!Ramona Monet (just worked better with an OC even when it will get less traction, sorry)
Words: 2.9k
A/N: So in my Charlie Gillespie imagine A Walk Down The Aisle the reader played a character Ramona Monet on the show. @leave-reality-behind wanted a fic off the tiny scene I wrote. So here you go.
Please ask to be tagged in my inbox because I can’t promise you will through commenting on the fics.

Ramona Monet’s deep burgundy lips manoeuvred into an ‘o’ as she released a deep breath of air sending her fringe flying. The last place she wanted to be was the spirit rally, but her Pops had banned for from the hidden gem in the older parts of LA. Ramona’s love of old movies stemmed from the many times her father had dropped her off at the movie theatre on his way to work. Being banned and her best friend performing at the rally is the only reason she would show her face.
Ramona had chosen a red tartan shirt with her fishnets that would more than likely land her in Principle Lessa’s office. As usual, she would fight ‘it broke dress code’ earing a little less respect from the adult but admiration for the quick retorts. Ramona made her way to the gym as the first beat of Carrie’s song played, her black ankle boots finding the way to the bleachers.
“Hey, Monet,” Nick spoke, leaning forward from his concealed position in the nest of jocks. The kind blonde had always been lovely to his girlfriend’s best friend.
“Nick.” Ramona nodded looking back as Carrie burst into the fast pace choreography that went with the pop song.
Dirty Candi’s music was not what Ramona listened to, but she couldn’t fault that it was a catchy song that would be in everyone’s head for days. From a distance, Carrie’s brown eyes finding Ramona wearing her self-made merch.
Ramona’s shirt sported the letters of Dirty Candi in the iconic colours Carrie had stressed over in the beginning. The black shirt was bleached in a tie-dye fashion, but it made Carrie’s heart flutter at the supportive friend she had.
“Whoo!” Ramona called over the loud background noise as Carrie gracefully dropped to perform the floor choreo. The words referencing to the band Queen made the teen girl knowing it was Carrie’s way of acknowledging the car karaoke.
Ramona’s attention was brought to the side where two girls were watching the performance. Flynn and Julie had been in the back of Ramona’s mind since the accident happened; Ramona’s heart dropped at the girl. Julie and Ramona had a good history tainted by tragic loss and teenage angst.
Ramona and Julie had been childhood best friends being a few houses from each other and that history was bittersweet. The two girls had nervously shared their first kisses in the now dilapidated treehouse in the Monet’s backyard. A relationship bloomed like a flower in the morning sun before the sun was concealed behind a storm cloud. Julie’s mom died, and Julie asked for a break.
Now everyone knows that a break is really a breakup and the naïve girlfriends had believed that. Then as Julie struggled with music, she struck out to the closest person, her girlfriend and Ramona found herself dumped. The dumping shattered Ramona’s heart, and the friend group divided. Flynn chose Julie and Carrie, disgusted by the cruel words, chose Ramona in a true Carrie fashion; Carrie and Ramona had initially only interacted together for their mutual friend/girlfriend. Then Ramona’s heart was obliterated when days later, she caught Julie staring at Nick with the same look Ramona used to get.
Ramona’s head turned to disregard the girl that had run out of music class the previous day during her performance. Rumours circulated by the end of the day that Julie Molina had been officially kicked out of the program; Ramona was both sad and relieved. Julie’s own head turned to catch the profile of her ex-girlfriend.
“Go Bobcats!” Carrie Wilson chimed strutting off to the girls change room for the dramatic exit. Needing a break from Julie, the Monet girl followed Dirty Candi into the change room.
“Nailed it,” Ramona spoke, revealing white teeth behind her dark lipstick gaining the pink-haired girl’s attention. Carrie’s face beamed at the compliment.
Ramona and Carrie Wilson couldn’t be farther in comparison with their different tastes and appearance. Carrie was all pink and glittery while Ramona was grunge and angst. Ramona was the one to push Carrie into making a YouTube channel, even promoting the group to Ramona’s followers without prompting.
“Oh! Thank you!” Carrie tugged her best friend into her arms, choking her taller friend with the tight embrace.
“So, I overheard Julie and Flynn when I walked by the music room. Julie’s going to perform for Mrs Harrison.” Ramona warned her best friend concerned as Carrie’s complexation changed to make the gaudy pink wig, “OH!”
Carrie’s French manicure gouged Ramona’s bare arm as she was tugged after the teenager back into the gym. A gasp fell from both their lips as Kayla, the purple dancer for Dirty Candi appeared. The three students rushed the stage where three guys popped out of nowhere on the stage.
“What the hell?” Ramona demanded watching her ex-girlfriend break out of her music shell, “Wow.”
“What do you mean ‘wow’ Ro?” Carrie asked in exasperation as her best friend stared at the stage, enjoying the music being played. Carrie scoffed only to soften when she saw the expression on Ramona, “Ro, she doesn’t deserve you. She never did.”
The sad smile appeared on Ramona’s face as her eyes met the bass player’s wink. Ramona flushed at the attention taken aback from the confidence. For a split-second, Ramona considered wiggling her way into the band to get back at Julie.
But while Ramona dressed like a confident badass, it was inside that she felt alone and hurt that Julie was doing so well without her. That sent rage flooding Carrie’s body so when Kayla fawned over the band Carrie glared at her. Kayla dropped her head at the glare.
“I’m gonna go,” Ramona spoke walking away from the stage and her ex who apparently, she still had feelings for. God help Ramona. Why was it when Ramona was shaking the feeling that Julie had to come back with a bang?
Ramona was striding out of the gym as the band disappeared, leaving the Molina girl alone to explain. Ramona leaned against the bathroom sink uncaring of the germs in carried staring at the teen in the mirror. The bubbling sadness faded down, remembering the changes that had happened, she was better without Julie.
Ramona walked back into the hall, catching the tail end of Julie’s conversation with absolutely no one near her. Ramona’s mossy green eyes rolled as she walked by the younger girl the bubble of anger reaching the surface. The sheepish smile on Julie’s face as a concerned custodian pushed his cart by.
“Oh, so does this girl.” Reggie spoke, watching as a rocker chick made a wide berth around his only remaining alive friend, “Ooh, she’s pretty.”
Julie watched the older girl walk by keeping her gaze ahead, “Hey Mona.”
Ramona cast a weird look at the other girl with a roll of her eyes, “Good on you for performing. Surprised someone other than Flynn survived Bitch Bomb 2019.”
Ramona turned around the corner of lockers leaving the Puerto Rican’s shoulders to deflate at the remind of Flynn running off. Sunset Curve watched the interaction with raised brows flicking between the very different girls.
“What was that about?” Alex wondered, viewing the sad expression of the gifted singer’s face. The utter sadness reminding him of when he broke up with his first boyfriend in ’93 and the lingering feeling.
“That was Ramona.” Julie sighed, picking at the braided bracelet on her wrist that had matched the one you used to wear.
Being fourteen without jobs and little allowance gifts had been mostly thrifted or homemade so for the six month anniversary they had braided bracelets. They had never come off their wrists until the breakup; Ramona had cut it off in a puddle of tears. Julie couldn’t bring herself to remove hers.
“When did Julie get smart enough to how about holograms?” Carrie scoffed as Ramona joined her at the lab table. The performance lingering like a bad taste of the girl’s tongue, “I worked weeks on that song! It was so hard getting Katy’s choreographer to help.”
“Carrie she-“
“She is so stupid! We’ve all lost someone, and we didn’t pull a Bitch Bomb 2019.” Carrie exclaimed referring to the first months of Julie’s grief-led wrath.
Carrie was both right and wrong in that sense because everyone grieved differently, Carrie would do retail shopping. Ramona’s way of dealing was locking herself in a room with a piano and lugging up water balloons to a roof; very Peyton Sawyer of her. Julie never reached out to apologize for her actions, but Ramona blocked her on everything.
“Car focus on the lab. You still have that bomb-ass song you’re working on.” Ramona sympathized with the teen. Carrie nodded her head, deciding to not focus on some girl with a fluke of a performance; Julie almost puked on the piano a few days ago, so her surprise band was probably a one-time thing.
“Don’t you have anything better than-“
“Carrie do you hear something?” Ramona pursed her lips, scanning the classroom with a feigned look of confusion. Carrie’s lips twitched at her best friend’s antics, “I swore I heard the voice of irrelevance.”
“Ooh and I swore I smelt gutter water perfume too.” Carrie flicked her hair over her shoulder, smirking at Flynn’s look of anger, “Mr. Taylor! Flynn threatened to burn me!”
Mr Taylor turned his attention from Kayla to Flynn’s expression of disbelief and the glare directed at the table ahead. Putting on a look of shock, Ramona appeared genuinely flabbergasted to the chemistry teacher.
“Flynn, that’s detention.” Mr Taylor spoke, turning back to Kayla.
“You bit-“Flynn was cut off by the bell ringing. Ramona and Carrie had already left the confident girl in the room. Flynn was fuming with both Julie’s lying and the unfair detention because of two popular vindictive girls.
Tumblr media
One would expect Ramona Monet, as a member of the music program, to play guitar or drums. However, Ramona was a classically trained pianist with an affinity with stringed instruments as well. The Monet family had a footing in the music world with her mother taught in the same way, and her father a composer.
“Oh! Sorry.” Ramona’s intense focus on the music enchanting the room was pulled as the awkward form stood in the entrance.
“Seriously, Molina?” Ramona winced as her hands fell on the keys creating an ear gouging shriek. Her green eyes shining brighter with the bare face she had chosen with little motivation for makeup, “I’ve been using this room every day at the same time since freshman year. You should know that. Guess I really wasn’t even an afterthought.”
Ramona’s hand shoved soft top binder of her notes in her black bag covered in many pins and embroidered patches. Her bright pink nail polish surprising Julie but her eyes drowned in the form-fitting ripped black jeans with the wine red cable knit sweater. Cheeks flushing Julie stuttered.
“S-sorry. I just-“
“Whatever.” Ramona shoved passed her ex-girlfriend, “Why do you even wear that?”
Julie glanced at the meaningful bracelet that Ramona intensely stared at with the dark and light strings braided. Julie’s eyes fell to see Ramona no longer wore braided bracelets but a bracelet with a moon charm.
“It means a lot.”
“Just not the person.” Ramona darkly chuckled, “Kinda childish?”
Julie shuffled uncomfortably on her feet picking at her cuticle at the insult her antagonist ex threw at her. Three ghosts glared at the Monet girl pissed at the unfair treatment she was giving Julie.
“Hey! What the hell is your problem?” Luke snapped, stepping forward even as Alex made his input of it being unnecessary; they were dead. To Alex shock, the disgruntled girl shifted her gaze from Julie to the trio.
“My problem is none of your damn business Uncle Jesse.” Ramona spat earning raised brows at her reference.
“Did she die in the ’90s too?” Reggie stage whispered to his best friend staring the pretty brunette down. Ramona’s eyes rolled.
“Should have known. The only people Julie didn’t scare off would be the dead.” Ramona snarked twisting on her heel to storm off into the distance.
“I’m sorry!” Julie yelled, bringing the brunette to a dead stop with her foot not planted on the floor yet as the apology finally came.
All Ramona had ever wanted was Julie to apologize for her shitty decision to dump Ramona cruelly. Using bitter words on her personal life to drive the wedge but the final nail in the coffin was the slammed door in Ramona’s face.
“For what?” Ramona seethed, “For asking for space and screaming when I gave it? Dumping me and acting like I was the black plague? How about when you forgot about my audition? Burning the flowers, I sent for the funeral? Or making breaking off communication and Flynn completely ignoring me?”
“Oh damn.” Luke murmured, stepping back to the drummer and bassist floored at the confrontation. His heart dropped, finally understanding why Julie avoided all topics relating to Ramona.
“I was wrong.” Julie admitted, “I pushed you away. I got mad when you gave me what I wanted. I should have talked to you and not broke up with you that way I did.”
“She burnt funeral flowers. “Alex whispered to Reggie, surprised at the out of character action from his new friend.
“I chose you over my audition. I chose to offer support for my best friend, not just my then-girlfriend, on one of her worst days. I get to the funeral, and you refused to let me say goodbye to the woman that practically raised me as well.” Ramona calmed down, staring at the younger girl breaking apart in front of her.
It felt like a weight dropped off Ramona’s shoulders or the chains of heartbreak and confusion unlocked with the key of closure. The clouds disappeared, letting the sun help the flowers bloom after a year of rain. A genuine smile spread on the girls face as Julie’s dropped at the beautiful sight.
“I hope you well Birdie.” Julie’s heart fluttered at the pet name Ramona had coined for the teenager. It shortened from songbird to birdie, and Julie hadn’t heard in what felt like years, “I gotta go. It’s filming day.”
Julie went pushed into a memory.
Summer 2018
The camera was entirely set on Ramona in the treehouse that her Pop had built when she was five years old. Fourteen-year-old Ramona was relaxing as she fixed her white off-shoulder crop top to be straight once more. The cover of the song accompanied by her acoustic guitar was pretty to the years of the short girl at the entrance.
“I still think it’s cheesy to call it Music Monday.” Ramona told the camera with a shy smile after strumming the last note. Her eyes meeting the girl that tackled her in a hug, “Birdie!”
“Birdie?” Julie questioned leaning back from her kissing attacks on every inch of her dirty-blonde girlfriend.
“Songbird is a bit of a mouthful.” Ramona blushed hiding in Julie’s neck unaware of the camera still rolling. The blush deepened at the lingering kiss to Ramona’s hairline.
“I love it.” Julie softly spoke, leaning back to gaze into Ramona’s green eyes swimming in the soft feeling.
Julie Molina and Ramona Monet had been the classic best friends with hidden crushes that shattered one afternoon. Ramona was nervous about a date she had the next day, and she had never kissed anyone. Julie, awed by her best friend, admitted she’d never kissed anyone and so in a cliché, the girls decided to share their first kiss. Feelings were revealed, and the two started to date.
“So, what brings you here.” Ramona asked, stopping the camera from recording as her girlfriend shifted, “What’s up?”
“If you’re ready I’d like to have you over for dinner.” Julie shyly asked, avoiding Ramona’s gaze.
“That’s not new Birdie.” Ramona chuckled helping the shorter girl to her feet fingers caressing the bracelet that was a twin to her own. Julie’s eyes flicked down to the light pink shorts that matched the butterfly click in Ro’s hair.
“Not as my best friend. As my girlfriend.” Julie murmured fearing the response.
“Should I call your parents Mr and Mrs.” Ramona wondered, kissing Julie’s cheek as the other girl relaxed at the statement. Julie feared Ramona wasn’t ready or didn’t want to be at that stage in the relationship, “If you are ready, then so am I.”
“You’re the best thing to happen to me.” Julie beamed, “Oh! I wanna show you the song Mom, and I made!”
Julie tugged her pretty girlfriend to the front of the house to lead her to the Molina’s garage they renovated into a music studio. The girls’ laughter floating in the summer breeze, the relationship blooming under the sun as it developed further. Naïvely the two young teens believed nothing could rip them apart, if only they knew.
“So, I’m guessing she’s off-limits?” Reggie offered as he bounced on his heels, attempting to lighten the mood. The glare from Julie was enough to answer that question.
“Reg. Firstly, don’t date your friend’s ex. Secondly, you’re dead.” Alex deadpanned at his best friend to turn to Julie, “Are you okay?”
“No.” Julie honestly spoke, “I guess I never realized that losing my girlfriend also meant I would lose my best friend.”
On the other side of the school, Ramona Monet could finally smile as the memories with Julie regained the colour grief had erased. Ramona Monet was better than fine, she was happy.

Tumblr media
You had your moments. Those weird moments where you didn’t know what you were feeling, especially to the person you were feeling those emotions to. Like this one time where it was a normal day watching Disney Channel and eating pizza (basically living the dream) and then a new movie popped up. “Teen Beach Movie” was the film, and let me tell you, when you saw Butchy AND Lela wearing leather, let’s just say you were confused why felt his way for both of them... it wasn’t right.
No, of course it was right ! You had these feelings for both genders, and your feelings were valid, so why wasn’t it right? Well, it was a simple answer.
Your parents.
Of course, they didn’t down right say they hated the lgbtg+ community. Although they might as well have downright said that they did, because with the things they say,
“Why do they get a whole MONTH of pride?”
“Ugh, the gays are making it EVERYTHING about them.”
“Do they have to do that in public? Couldn’t they have waited until they got home?”
“Why would they put that in tv?! The kids are gonna watch that and think that they’re gay!”
Obviously you heard their views, and when you started to realize you somewhat fit in their hate demographic, you “decided” that you weren’t going to. And that’s how it has been for a long time.
RIIINNGG
Ugh, another school day.
“Kill me now.”
You got up your very comfortable bed, and did your daily routine. After you were finished with that and dinner, you were dropped off at the infamous Los Feliz High School. You were then greeted by your best friend, Octavia.
“Hey bestiee.” you joked.
“Hey rat.” Octavia said with the same energy.
“So, did you finally finish atla last night?” you asked.
“Of course! To have a chance to see my husbands is a chance I’ll always take. Even started watching tlok! Mako does looks scrumptious not gonna lie.” she said, doing that weird tucking her hair behind her ear and having a look of thirst on her face. Its the fact that she basically always does that for me.
“Not you finishing atla AND starting tlok the very same night. I don’t think that’s normal.” you said shaking your head.
“Lets just say that if I get diagnosed with insomnia, don’t be surprised.”
“I don’t think anyone would be.” you said while the both of you are putting your supplies in our locker.
“ANYWAYS, I’m sorry for you getting moved to Mr. G’s class. I know he can be very mean.” Octavia said sympathetically.
And it’s all true. Mr. G is basically known for being modern day Snape, favorites and all (especially to the popular kids). Considering you were fresh meat to his class, you were not looking forward to the inevitable insults.
“Ugh, don’t remind me. I can NOT stand the fact that I wasn’t even in his class in the first place, thinking I was safe, and then I got moved!” you yelled.
“I know, I know.” she said while putting her hands on your shoulder. “(y/n), if he even BREATHES in your direction, just tell me and I swear the next time I see him its on sight.” Octavia said with a very stern look on her face. “Honestly I can’t believe that the principle wouldn’t fire him, he has enough complaints for at least a suspension.”
“O, what would I do without you? And besides, don’t blame her. She genuinely tried to fire him. But I heard that he lawyered up to the point where he was basically untouchable.” you said.
“We lost.” “We truly did.”
Right after that conversation, the bell rang.
“Good luck (y/n)! I love you !!” said Octavia while going to her 1st period class.
“I love you too!” you yelled back.
Oh lord. Please please make this class bearable.
You walked to the door, and took a deep breath. As you went inside, not one second went by as you already got a taste of his scrutiny.
“Well well, if it isn’t the newbie! (y/n) (y/l/n). Just pick an empty seat as that’ll be the only way you’ll get someone to sit next to you.” he chuckled
You wanted to die right then and there.
And it got worse as the whole class seemed to find that insult funny, considering that they all laughed.
“O m gosh, Mr G. That was your best one yet!” said Carrie. Of course she had something to say. Not one situation where she kept her mouth shut and yelled her commentary to everyone in the room.
You shuffled your way to the back of the class, to find an empty seat next to this girl. She looked familiar, but not to the point where you knew her name. Though you wished you had. She looked quite.. pretty. With her amazing hair, and her beautiful eyes. Not to mention her face in general..
NO !
No. Of course you had these thoughts of her, she’s just naturally pretty, anyone would’ve thought that. You then put your backpack behind the seat and proceeded to sit down next to her. A few moments passed of you sitting next to the girl, until she said,
“Sorry about that. Mr G. can be very mean sometimes to everyone, -not that that’s okay!” she stuttered. “It’s just, don’t take it personally.”
“Er- thanks.”
“I’m Julie by the way! What’s your name?”
“I’m (y/n).”
“Nice you (y/n)! With each other, I promise you, we can get through his class.”
You smile at her. And Julie smiled back. of course she had to be nice too!
“Well Ms. (y/n), Ms. Molina, talking in my class? I’m not even mad, just surprised! Ms. (y/n) actually found someone to talk to!” said Mr. G.
Aaand of course, he has something to say again.
“I’m surprised she has anything to say at all, considering the amount of times you had already talked down to her. Just simply leave her alone.” said Julie with assert.
You were shocked to say the least. And it showed to, having a look of disbelief all over your face.
“Um, wel- uh, Ms. Molina, keep that mouth closed, if you don’t want to spend your lunch in detention.” said Mr G.
You were honestly very glad that she stood up for you in that moment. A little too glad, because in that time, the feelings started to flood in.
Of course, why wouldn’t it! She was just simply nice to you and you had already developed whole feelings for her! But was it exactly bad? Sure, your parents deemed that it already was, but that didn’t mean that you had to. This is who you were, a human being with valid feelings, and there was nothing wrong with that. So with this whole situation, you said with a big smile,
“Thank you.”
Hey, you never said you were good at speaking with other people. But I don’t think it mattered to Julie, because she had returned your smile, and in that moment you realized you can find yourself deeper in love.
The two of you really had bonded during class time. Sure, you can say that you both flirted but you were never really good at figuring that out, even when you were flirting with boys (it had always been Octavia’s job to figure that out.) But considering the things she said to you.
“I love your hair!”
“You have very nice hands.”
“Your eyes are a beautiful shade of (y/e/c).”
After class, you both knew that you liked, liked each other. But that's where the hard part came in, actually confessing. To be totally honest, you could barely manage confessing to a boy, imagine with Julie? Although you were happy to know that Julie had already thought about this, because when you both walked out the door, she took your hand and guided you to the music room, where the both of you were alone.
Both of you were facing each other. You could tell she was nervous, cause she was playing with her hands, and didn’t seem to try to make eye contact with you.
“(y/n), I know we just met this class,” she said, both chuckling, “but would you like to get coffee with me sometime?”
Oh boy, she actually asked you out! Don’t get you wrong, you were happy! In spite the fact that you had your parents to worry about. So with that, knowing all that was at risk, you still said with full confidence,
“I would love to.”
Julie gave you the biggest smile you had yet to see. She moved a strand of hair out of your face and then proceeded to hold your hands.
“It’s a date! How about at 4 after school?” she said.
“The perfect time.”
After exchanging numbers, you both felt ecstatic, the both of you just left the room with the biggest grin. You couldn’t believe that you had gotten a date with Julie! Now I know that you’re gonna say that you should’ve told Julie about your situation with your parents, but she looked so happy that you couldn’t possibly have ruined the moment with that.
After that amazing moment, you had managed to spot Octavia in the hallway. You walked up to her like you normally would, though this time you had a scared expression. You had never come out before. Though you thought the possibility of keeping this from your parents, this wasn’t something you could keep from her. So walking up to her, you just blurted out the truth, without a second thought.
“Hey! How was Mr-.”
“I’m bi!”
She seemed stunned after a second, but only a second as she bursted out laughing out of nowhere.
“Um-”
“Oh my gosh, the way that was the way you came out to me! It’s the disorganization for me.” said Octavia, while wiping her tears away.
“Wait-, you don’t care?” you asked confused.
“Do you want me to be bothered or something?” she asked in a more sarcastic tone.
“Well no- it's just- I don’t know, I was just scared I guess.”
“Listen,” she said sternly while again putting her hands on your shoulders as a way to comfort you. “I will love you no matter who you love. Understand?”
“And I you. The problem is my parents. I know what they think of people like me, and it’s not good. How am I going to survive this ughh.”
“They’re your parents, I’m sure it’ll be a shock to them, but if they truly love you, they’ll accept you.”
“Thank you Octavia, what will do without you?”
“Hey, that’s what I’m here for.”
After you finally finished your classes, you nervously went to the front of the school to wait for your mom to pick you up. You felt so nauseous, to the point where you were sure that you were going to throw up right there. After waiting for 5 minutes, your mom pulled up. You got in the car and you felt so nervous that you were just silent the whole car ride. Your mom for sure took notice.
“Hey sweetie, you’re alright?” said your mom.
“Yeah, I just don’t feel so well.”
“Oh, are you alright? Did you eat something bad maybe?”
“Yeah, probably something during lunch.”
And after that the conversation fully stopped as your mom noticed you were not in the mood to talk.
You finally got home and you felt even worse than before. You dreaded this moment, and just felt like passing out. As you got inside, you quickly went inside your room, not bothering to say hi to your dad. You put your stuff on the ground and just started to really think about this.
They’re my parents! Like Octavia said, they should still accept me, I’m their child. And if they don’t? They have to, right?
Right?
You finally built up the courage to go outside your room and go to the kitchen, where both of you parents were.
“Mom, dad? I need to tell you something.” you said, basically shaking.
“Sure, what is it sweetie?” said your dad.
And without a second thought, you just blurt it out?
“I’m bi!”
It was dead silent. And that scared you.
The part that truly scared you? Hearing the words that you had been dreading to hear.
“You’re pranking me, right?” you dad chuckled, as if it was a joke.
That’s when you started to get a little irritated. You knew how your parents were, so this reaction was inevitable. So considering all the preparation, you still got mad.
“Why would this be a prank?!” you said with an “attitude” (that’s what your parents would say at least, although you were just simply defending yourself).
“Honey, as much I love you, this isn’t natural.” said your mother with a normal tone, which you could argue was just as scary as an angry tone.
“If you actually loved me, you would accept me as I am!” you said, starting to actually get aggrieved.
“Don’t yell at your mother like that!” said your father, who actually stood up from his chair.
“I wouldn’t need to be yelling, if you would actually accept me for who I am, not all this!”
“LISTEN, I’m sure this is just a phase. You either change your ways or you are no longer considered my daughter! No daughter of mine would feel such a disgusting thing!” your father yelled.
That’s when you lost it, you knew that no matter what you did, they would never change their way. That’s why you just let it out, because they would never change their way, so why not just let it all out?
“You know what?! I’m going to leave! I rather be homeless than to live in a house with you two! My two parents who don’t even accept me, WHO DON’T MAKE ME FEEL LOVED OR VALIDATED!” you yelled.
At that point you were shaking and crying. With the anger that you were feeling inside you didn’t even think to get any clothes or basic necessities, you just grabbed your phone and just ran out with your parents yelling your name. But you didn’t care, you were not going back there, that’s for sure.
After that horrible fight, you went to a park that was near your house. You went inside a private bathroom that was thankfully unoccupied, cause if it wasn’t, you were pretty sure that you would’ve broken down right then and there. Once you had gone in there, you surprisingly didn’t cry. You just held it in, and really thought about your situation. You realized that it was pretty stupid of you that you didn’t get your belongings and then left the house. Oh! And that you were pretty much homeless.
After a good thinking session, you did the most sensical thing you could do in that situation.
You called Julie.
Now I know what you’re thinking! ‘Why Julie, why didn’t you call Octavia instead?’. Well it was pretty simple, you just desperately wanted to see Julie. You pressed on her contact, not really knowing what was coming with it. What if she thought you were weird? What if she laughed at you? What if she felt weirded out with you and then blocked your number? What if-
“Hello?”
“Julie?” You sounded pretty distraught, so it wasn’t surprising when she sounded concerned herself once she heard your voice.
“Hey, is everything alright?”
“Julie, this might sound really weird, but something really bad happened and you were the only person I could think to call! If you’re busy I’m sorry I won’t-”
“Hey! I’m sure everything’s going to be fine. Where are you?”
You took a deep breath, you were just thankful she didn’t block you right then and there. “I’m at the park in (street name).”
“Okay, just stay right there and I’ll come and get you.”
When the call ended, you walked out of the bathroom and sat on swings, waiting for Julie. After you waited, for what seemed an eternity, you saw her.
Julie.
She spotted you in the swings, and gave you the sweetest smile. She walked closer to you and stretched out her hands, which you took. After just staring at each other, she gave you the biggest hug, which (not gonna lie) you just really needed. Much to your disappointment, she let go of you, she swung an arm around you, and started walking to her house. The both of you didn’t say anything, but you guys didn’t need to, the peaceful silence was nice.
The both of you then arrived at her house. That’s when you started to panic, you weren’t looking forward to bother her family.
“Are you sure we can go in the house?” you asked
She gave you a chuckle, “I think we can go to my house.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want to bother any-”
“Hey.” She proceeded to grab your hands and then moved to cup your face. “Everything’s going to be okay, my dad and brother aren’t home, and even if they were, you would absolutely be greeted with open arms.” she said,
You both went inside the house and then inside Julie’s room. She motioned to sit on her bed and you did. She sat next to you and then held your hand, intertwining with each other.
“It’s okay, you can talk to me.”
You took a deep breath, and just let all your feelings out. “It’s just my parents were never really supporting of the lgbtq community, so it was stupid of me to actually think they would have any other different reaction. And the fact that they would react like that? To say such cruel things? I just..- I don’t know, is it wrong for me to feel bad?”
“They’re your family, of course you would have this sensation of feeling bad. But I just want you to know that they’re in the wrong, not you. Any sane person would think that, everyone just wants to be accepted. Just know this,” she said while leaning closer, your hands still intertwined. “you are valid, so many people love you no matter who you love.” she said while moving a strand of hair out of your face.
You continued to smile, but looked into Julie’s eyes with so much adore. And the best part was, she was looking at you the exact same way.
Without a second thought, you decided to just go for it. You kissed her. The kiss was passionate, and sweet. Julie then gave soft kisses to you cheeks and knuckles, murmuring comforting words such as “it’s okay” “you’re alright” “i’m here”.
After pulling away you both looked at each other, and then you offered your favorite pastime.
“Can we go to sleep? I just wanna sleep the stress away.”
Julie chuckled and then agreed. You both got into a position of Julie laying down while your head rested on her chess, and her holding you. While you were half asleep, you said those three words,
“I love you.”
You were half asleep, so you didn’t understand the severity of the action, but before you fully drifted, you heard these words coming out of her mouth.
“I love you too.”

Story of Another Us
Tumblr media
Pairing: Luke Patterson x fem!Reader
Description: After Julie finds a song Luke wrote about you, he reminisces on his moments with you
A/N: The song Luke wrote is Story of Another Us by 5 Seconds of Summer i highly recommend listening to it
Warnings: Cussing
Word count: 1.7k
Part 2
Julie is a curious person by nature, nobody can deny that. So when Luke gave her his journal and told her to look at all the dog eared songs, she couldn’t stop herself from reading them all. When she got to the last song in the journal she hesitated. It was not dog eared and looked to be the newest written. Most words were crossed out and corrections were written between the margins, she turned the page to find the final version of the song, written coherently. She raised her brows at the wet spots that stained some of the words. She read through it, her own eyes tearing up and threatening to smudge the beautiful lyrics composed by her lead guitarist.
The faint pop Julie has grown to recognize startles her. She meets Luke’s eyes and tries to flip the notebook back to another page but he catches sight of it before she can.
He stays quiet for a second and Julie bites her lip in anticipation.
“What is it that you always say Jules? Boundaries?” The look in his eyes is a mixture of anger, betrayal, and pure sadness, and it breaks Julie’s heart.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers. She doesn’t know what else to say and ultimately decides to risk asking the question that is on the forefront of her mind. “Luke, who is the song about?”
He sighs and takes a sit next to her on the bed, there’s no point in lying to her. “My girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend?” Julie asks, both confused and surprised.
“Yeah ex-girlfriend I guess. We uh dated back in the 90s,” a sad smile on his face as he spoke. “She was there the night of the concert but she hated hotdogs so she stayed back with Bobby at the Orpheum. I didn’t want to think about her when we first came back but last week I looked her up and I went to see her. She has a family, married, children everything that we talked about having together.” Tears were falling down his face and Julie wanted nothing more than to be able to hug him.
“I-“ she started but what was she supposed to say? Luke shook his head, not finished talking.
“Her youngest son, his name is-“ he pressed a fist against his mouth, biting back a sob. “She named him Luke.” It’s something that took him by surprise when he heard her call his name. For a second he thought she meant him, but then he saw the cute nine-year-old dashing into the room, smiling brightly at his mother.
“Oh.”
“And I am so happy for her but I just, I guess I finally realized just how much I lost that night.” He finally turned his head and made eye contact with Julie.
“Tell me about her,” she said. Luke’s eyes widened, not expecting that to be her response. He regained his composure and nodded his head, thinking back to the moments you shared together.
. . .
You’re sitting on the couch, waiting for the boys to get back to the studio after playing at the pier for change. You actually had school and therefore could not go and watch them but you have the rest of the day off and decided to spend it with your favorite people.
The loud, excited voice of your boyfriend breaks you from your thoughts. He pushes the door of the garage turned studio open and smiles when he spots you. He rushes to the couch and throws himself on top of you. You grunt and try to push him off, which only causes him to hold you tighter.
“Get off me you doofus. You’re sweaty and gross,” you exclaim. He looks at you in mock hurt and you use his surprise to your advantage and push him off the couch. You sit up and wave at the rest of the guys.
Bobby smiles and shakes his head walking forward to ruffle your hair. Alex and Reggie make it seem like they will throw themselves on top of you too and you scream, raising your arms over your head in defense, making everyone laugh. You stick your tongue out at them and look down at your boyfriend still laying on the floor.
“How was your physics test?” He asks, remembering last night’s mental breakdown about you not understanding anything. He always felt useless in those situations, never having taken physics himself after dropping out, so he couldn’t help you study. He normally just holds you close and hopes you stop crying, because regardless of what Alex says, he would never leave you to cry alone.
“Meh, pretty sure I passed but I never know.” You shrug your shoulders dismissing any thoughts of your grades.
Bobby laughs and points an accusatory finger at you, “You always say that and you always end up being the highest score. Don’t give us that ‘meh’ bullshit.”
You throw a pillow at him but he easily catches it and throws it at Reggie, who gets hit in the head. Reggie complains and both you and Bobby chuckle at his inconvenience.
Luke finally gets up from the floor and sits next to you on the couch, pulling your body to lean against his. You’re used to this proximity, realizing early in your relationship that Luke is a very touchy person and has to have physical contact with someone at all times.
You smile and look up to him, asking how the performance at the pier went. He excitedly goes on about how people complemented them and how he knows that they are on their way to becoming big and you can’t help but agree. If there is one thing you know is that Sunset Curve is on their way to greatness.
. . .
“She believed in me, in all of us. Every second of spare time she had, she spent helping us get gigs. She would even sit on that old coach while we practiced and do her homework.”
Julie smiled at the way his eyes lit up. “She sounds amazing. Though I am surprised she was able to concentrate with you guys playing.”
Luke laughs and shakes his head. “She was not. She would yell at us and blame us if she didn’t do well on a test, but we always convinced her to stay when she tried to leave.”
. . .
You tried to block out the loud playing of instruments as you read Lord of the Flies for your english class. You snap the book shut and let out a frustrated sigh standing up abruptly and making your way out the door.
Luke stops singing and slips his guitar off before rushing over to you.
“Hey where are you going?” Luke asks a little breathless, bouncing on the balls of his feet, his body still full of adrenaline.
“I can’t concentrate,” you reply. “I’m pretty sure I have a test on the first four chapters tomorrow.” You look up to find him pouting adorably at you. You roll your eyes and try to leave again but he grabs your arm.
“We’re almost done. Let us just finish this song and then we were all just going to write. Just don’t leave.” His eyes are pleading with you and you know that you won’t decline. You let him lead you back to the couch and you sit down, reopening your book and trying to finish the chapters assigned.
Five minutes later the guys were all milling on different areas of the studio with a pen and an instrument, working on melodies as Luke works on lyrics on the floor in front of you leaning back against your legs. You run your hand absentmindedly through his hair as the other holds up the book.
The pager clipped to your jeans beeps and you glance down at it, your eyes widening when you see the message. You stand up quickly, dropping your book on Luke’s head in the process. You ignore the calls of pain and protest from your boyfriend as you run out of the shed and into the house. You greet Bobby’s mom and walk to the living room where the landline is at. You dial the number quickly and mumble “pick up” repeatedly under your breath. The club owner picks up and you talk for about fifteen minutes. At the end confirming a gig for Sunset Curve every Saturday this month at one of the hottest clubs in LA.
You scream with joy and run back to the studio yelling for their attention.
“Guess who just booked you guys a gig!” You exclaim, a joyous smile on your lips. The boys all jump up from their places around the room and rush to hug you but you raise your hands stopping them in their tracks. “Sunset Curve will be performing every Saturday this March at The Reserve!”
They all freeze, mouths opening in shock before they tackle you in a hug and jumping around in excitement. Luke pulls you close against him and kisses you desperately, trying to convey every emotion he is feeling at the moment. The guys cheer like they always do whenever Luke kisses you in front of them.
They all give you their thanks and a hug before Luke pulls you back to the couch, picking up his lyric journal and placing your hand back in his hair. The room is still buzzing with excitement but your force yourself to concentrate as you pick your book back up and continued reading.
. . .
Luke looks down at his hands, “She was the love of my life, quite literally, and I guess that now in my death I have to learn to live without her.”
Julie let her hand hover over his and if she concentrated hard enough she swears she could feel the heat radiating off his skin. “It’s a beautiful song Luke and she sounds like she loved you very much. Just remember that getting over her doesn’t mean forgetting her.”
Luke smiles at his friend, thankful to have met her and have her be a part of his (after)life. He looks down at his journal, eyes skimming over the song. “Do you think,” he pauses. “Do you think it’s good enough to perform?”
Julie stares him like he’s insane. “Anything you write is good enough to perform, especially this song.” Luke turns away, a blush creeping up his cheeks.
“Thanks Jules.”

Everything has changed
Luke Patterson x oc
Warning— None
Word Count— 3.8k
N/A: Well, I was originally planning on making a one-shot but I had this idea for a new character in the jatp storyline and I just couldn't help it, First time writing so hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
I was arriving at Carlos's house after going quickly to my house after school.
Today was an important day for my family given that it was my uncle's anniversary of death. I didn't know much about him. My family didn't like to talk about the subject, and I didn't even dared to ask since my aunt always ended up with tears in her eyes every time someone mentioned him. Was it that tragic? How long ago was it? I didn't have a clue. When my aunt was bringing me to Carlos’s house I tried to touch the subject subtly. Maybe today I'd get answers.
“So, important day, huh?” I asked, trying to be sensible. I could see my aunt watching me from the corner of her eye.
“Yeah, I guess you could say that..“ she moved uncomfortably in her seat and then attempted to distract herself searching for a radio station.
“You know, I always come to bring flowers with you each year on his anniversary and.. well, I realized that I don't really know much of the person I'm bringing them for..)?.” I said cautiously.
My aunt sighed and nodded “Yeah, I know. I guess it's time we actually tell you, you are basically about to graduate and you still don't know anything about your uncle.” she tried to joke.
I remained silent waiting for her to speak.
“I just.. ,” she sighs “Can we talk about this when I pick you up to go to the cemetery?.” she asked with pleading eyes.
I nodded. I knew it would take her some time to tell me.
“However you want,” I unbuckle my seatbelt. “I'll see you later, love you!.” I said as I hopped out of the car and closed the door.
“Love you too!.” she answered by blowing me a kiss as I touched the bell ring.
Not even a minute passed when I heard some little steps running to the door and opening it widely.
“Sammie!” Carlos said excitedly to then hug me tightly.
Ray leaned into frame from the kitchen “Hey Sam, hope this tutoring session wasn't an inconvenience, I know you are kind of tight with exams this week.” he said while wiping the kitchen counter.
I came here at least three times a week to tutor Carlos, so you could say that he was the only reason I came into this house in the first place.. or well, not quite. Julie saw the poster I left in the announcement board about being available for tutoring and after that I just got along easily with Carlos after the first session.
“Nope, no problem. I love spending time with this little dude,” I say while ruffling Carlos' hair and then leaving my bag on the table and seating besides Carlos who was taking out his studying materials. “So, I guess we should start right now if you want to make it to your game, right?” I asked while taking his math book and reading the exercises.
“Do we really have to start with math?.” Carlos pouted.
“Yes, because if aunt Victoria comes early at least we got rid of the complicated stuff. Now, pay attention.. “ I started to explain to him the subject he was seeing.
A few hours later
While Julie was working on a homework assignment I answered a few messages on my phone. Our relationship was a little... weird. We were able to get along with each other, but we weren't what I'd call close. It didn't help that she started to pull away when everything with her mom happened. Despite what I originally thought, Carlos pointed out that Julie wasn't jealous of our friendship. She still wanted to talk to me whenever I had a tutoring session with Carlos. "Oh good. You're home!" Someone said, startling me, I almost dropped my phone in surprise. Looking up I saw Ray standing in the doorway.
THAT was a close one, I thought as I caught my phone before it hit the ground. My parents would kill me if I managed to somehow break another one. While panicking over my almost-broken phone I must have missed a conversation, because Ray was walking out of the room. Looking at Julie confusion was evident in my voice as I asked, "um, what just happened?"
"Well," Julie said with a sigh as she started to fidget with her multi-colored bracelets. "I guess dad wants me to clean out mom's studio so he can start taking pictures for the realtor's website." I winced in sympathy, the studio was where Julie spent most of her time with her mom. It wasn't going to be easy going through all those memories.
"I'm sorry, Julie," I said softly. "Do you need any help? My aunt isn't coming to pick me up for a few hours." Julie met my eyes with a small smile.
"it's nice of you to offer, but I think I'll be fine." Julie said, sighing as she stood up from the table.
I'll always wonder what's going on in that head of hers. I thought as I started on my own homework assignments. Time must've passed by quicker than I thought, because soon I heard the telltale sound of the Molina's car pulling up in the driveway. I decided to get up from the table to greet Carlos and congratulate him on his baseball game. As I closed the front door behind me with a click, Julie came running out from the garage screaming. She looks like she just saw a ghost!, I thought with a light chuckle. Ray grabbed her by the shoulders to calm her down. "Woah there, slow down!" Rays said as Julie stopped screaming. "You're acting like you just saw a ghost!" Julie stared at her dad, then to all of our surprises she pointed to the garage exclaiming,
"I have! Three of them!"
A grin crossed Carlos's face as he exclaimed, "Cool!" I was doubtful, though. I didn't believe in ghosts.
"Ghosts, like for real?" I asked, half as a joke. Julie nodded frantically in response.
"Yes ghosts, and it's not cool!" She shouted before running back into the house, leaving the door open behind her. Carlos shook his head with a sigh then asked,
"Can I have a normal sister for once? Is that too much to ask?" I helped Ray pull Carlos's baseball equipment out of the car then followed the little dude into the house. Once everything was put away the three of us sat at the kitchen table, wondering if Julie was slowly going insane. Ray sighed,
"Maybe I should set up a few more appointments with Dr. Turner." he said thoughtful while scratching his chin.
"I know it's not my place," I said slowly, not wanting to overstep. "But I doubt it's anything you need to worry about. Maybe her eyes were just playing tricks on her and she got scared." Ray considered my idea then sighed and leaned his head back.
"You're right, I should trust her... as insane as it sounds," Ray glanced up the stairs. Turning to me he asked, "do you think I should go check on her?" I sighed, after I started spending more time with the Molina's, Ray had taken to getting parenting advice from me. Not that I knew anything about it, being seventeen years old.
"Yeah," I said looking up the stairs as well. "I think that's a good idea." Carlos rolled his eyes then asked,
"Can we watch a movie or something? Girls are just weird." After getting a nod from Ray I chuckled and messed with his hair saying,
"Sure dude. Go pick something out." The sound of Ray's steps going up the stairs got drowned out as the movie started to play.
Not even half an hour into the movie Carlos ended up falling asleep on the couch next to me. I was almost asleep myself, but Julie came sprinting down the stairs holding a cross in her hands looking everywhere alarmed. Okay)? I thought as I observed how distressed Julie looked. What was she planning to do with that? If this was about the ghost thing, well, the only thing that ghost hunter shows have taught me is that holy things only work with demons, not ghosts. "Julie, everything alright?" I asked, turning down the volume of the television. She nodded, then hid the cross behind her back. Yeah, like I didn’t see it already.
"Uh... yes?" She asked, acting like everything was normal. I frowned then asked,
"What do you think you are doing? And.. where are you going with that cross?" Julie just sighed, and pulled the cross out from behind her back.
"I just... I think I saw something in mom's studio. I wanted to double check on it," she said, awkwardly wrapping her arms around herself. Looking at me she asked, "can you come with me? Please?"
After checking the time on my phone I saw my aunt wouldn't be picking me up for another half-hour. Nodding I said, "Well sure, I've got some time to kill." I stood up from the couch and Julie helped me pull a blanket over Carlos, who instantly got knotted up in it. "So," I said with a slight smirk, "where's my weapon?" Julie's face lit up like she remembered something and dashed across the room. She dug through a cabinet before she let out a cry of victory, finding what she was looking for. "You can use the agua bendita!" She exclaimed, shoving it into my hands. I eyed the bottle suspiciously,
"Why do you guys have one of these in your house?" I asked, keeping it at arm's length. Julie shrugged,
"My mom was always kind of superstitious," she said as we walked outside to the garage. She wielded the cross like a sword, ready to fight the ghosts who haunted the studio. I held the agua bendita at arm's length. "Ready?" Julie asked as she wrapped her hand around the door handle.
"Right behind you," I promised, bracing myself. She must really think there’s something out here I thought to myself as she walked into the studio first, watching her start circling the garage with her cross as her weapon. Like that could harm anybody, I joked.
While I stayed near the center of the room, Julie walked in a circle, waving her cross around trying to scare away the ghosts. I half-considered telling Ray he should sign Julie up for more sessions with Dr. Turner. Just when I thought she was done, Julie started to talk to the ghosts. "Are you still here?" She asked, stepping closer to the piano. "Whatever you are?" A beat of silence passed and I sighed.
"Julie," I said, hoping I wouldn't offend her. "Maybe your eyes were just playing tricks on you." Julie shook her head,
"I know I saw something, I’m not crazy!" She insisted, slumping on the piano bench. I walked towards her to comfort her when I felt a chilly wind behind my back, making me turn around and literally see how three boys appeared out of thin air.
“Well, we're all a little crazy.” Said the brunette ghost.
The reaction was the following:
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.” Julie and I screamed while looking at each other to then look at them, Julie quickly holding her cross up while I stood paralyzed and screaming.
And yes, they were cute ghosts, I’ll give them that, but they still appeared OUT OF FREAKING NOWHERE.
The blonde guy took a step forward asking,“Oh my god! Please stop screaming!.” He said with a grimace while holding his hands up to cover his ears.
Julie stopped screaming while I still continued freaking out, even adding little jumps that I did when I got very scared. Yes, like a little kid.
Julie tapped slightly my arm while still looking at them, and I finally shut up while trying to process the situation. In my panic I reached out and grabbed Julie's arm.
“This is how it ends, right?.” I asked, half-whispering at her. The ghosts looked as confused as I felt. Julie ignored my question. Taking a small step forward she asked,
"Who are you?, and what are you doing in my mom's studio?" She tried and failed to sound intimidating, stuttering over her words.
"Jules, don't you get it?" I hissed, pulling her away from the cute ghost boys. "They're here to take us to the other side!" The guys just looked even more confused at my theory.
“Your mom's studio?” The brunette asked, sounding as confused as I felt. “This is our studio,” he took a step forward and gestured around the room while walking towards Julie, only to be pointed at with her cross which seemed to frighten the guy. “Trust me, my..,” he stumbled to talk while climbing on top of the piano with Julie pointing at him with the cross. Was he afraid of Jesus or something? Maybe he is an atheist)?. “The-The grand piano is new and-and-and... MY COUCH!” he said excitedly while dropping himself on the couch and sighing,
Julie held up her cross as the blond tried to walk past her. I should probably call someone, right? I thought trying to wrap my head around the fact that the brunette boy looked like he wasn't going to move anytime soon. I can't call the cops, what do I say? Ghosts are haunting my friend's garage? Maybe I should call Ray… I thought, considering my options. Brunette boy looked at the guitar hanging on the wall with a frown. "That's definitely not my six string though..." he said, trailing off. He glanced at his two friends, who just shrugged helplessly in response.
Brunette boy looked around the studio again, and seemed to realize that it wasn't, in fact, their studio anymore. He looked a little more rattled than before, “Can you give me just a second?,” he asked Julie while she kept determinedly pointing the cross at him. “Just.. give me a second. Thank you.” he got up and walked towards me. I tried to get out of his way, but instead of falling to the floor like I expected he ended up walking through me. What the heck is going on? I thought as the boys regrouped out of earshot. How - did the cute boy just walk through me? Julie and I exchanged looks of surprise and shock. I swallowed back a scream, not wanting Ray to see the ghosts.
"Julie what just happened? Ohmygod, oh my god, OH MY GOD. Did he really just walk through me?" I asked frantically, knowing she wouldn't have any satisfying answers. Julie just hissed at me to keep the volume down, not wanting her dad to find out about the boys. And with my dramatic nature I could totally scream and make her dad come here.
As the shock of getting walked through started to wear off I was able to focus on what the guys were actually talking about. "Okay," brunette boy said with his back turned to us. "So, we're going with witches?" I rolled my eyes at the suggestion. The blonde shook his head,
“No! We are not going with witches,” the blonde guy said. “They are not witches. Ok, look. They're just scared. Ok? Let someone.. with a softer touch handle this,” he leaned in and pointed to himself. Then he turned around, walked towards us, and asked "why are you in our studio?!" I exchanged a look with Julie and the first thought that crossed my mind was have her stab him with the cross. I spilled out some of the agua bendita, but it just fell through him and landed on the floor. Julie thrusted the cross forward, but it just passed right through the blonde boy's chest. We looked at each other in shock and Julie turned back to the blonde guy.
"Oh my gosh! How did you do that?!" Julie asked, pointing an accusing finger at the blonde boy. My brain was still trying to comprehend the fact that ghosts exist. Actual, literal, spooky Casper The Friendly Ghost ghosts, exist.
“Clearly, you guys are not understanding..,” he turned around to his friends. “They don't get it,” and then turned to us. “Ok, look. We're ghosts, all right? We're just three ghosts, and we're really happy to be home. So, thank you for the flowers. They really brighten the room.” he pointed at the flowers at the back of the studio.
The other guys then stepped up a little. “We're actually in a band called Sunset Curve.” said the brunette boy.
The plaid-wearing one spoke up for the first time adding, “Tell your friends.” with a cheeky smile.
"Last night was supposed to be a really big night for us. It was going to change our lives," brunette boy, their leader, said wistfully. I'm pretty sure it did, I thought as Julie pulled out her phone.
“I'm, uh... I'm pretty sure it did.” said the blonde guy.
Huh, weird... but actually cool too, do they read minds or something?
“This is freaking me out.” Julie exclaimed as she looked up something.
“Are you calling the ghostbusters? Because I was about to.” the guys seemed a little startled with my comment, looking at me with wide eyes.
“No, nobody is calling the ghostbusters, Sam.” she looked at me sternly and went back to what she was doing. The guys seemingly relaxing after hearing her.
“What is that? What are you doing?.” said the brunette boy while pointing at her phone.
“That's my phone,” she answered to then look at me. “Nope, stop talking to them, they aren't real,” she told me but it seemed she was telling it more to herself. “There's no such thing as cute ghosts, right?.” she asked me.
I crossed my arms in front of my chest. “Well, not in any story that I know of but there shouldn't be also mutual dreaming, and this is what this seems to be.” I shrugged my shoulders.
“Oh, think we're cute?.” the plaid-wearing one asked with a smirk.
If we were going to keep talking to them I would really like to know their names since I hate calling them blonde guy, brunette boy and plaid-wearing one I thought to myself.
Julie just looked at them, then at me and kept searching in her phone, me peeking over her shoulder to see what she was typing.
“Who you calling?.” said the blonde guy with a nervous smile thinking she might be calling the ghostbusters like I suggested.
“I'm googling Sunset Swerve.” said Julie while looking at them.
“Sunset Curve.” they corrected her rather offended.
Julie sighed and then clicked onto the first article that appeared. I read along with her and then looked at her while she turned to look at the guys.
“Whoa, there is a Sunset Curve... you did die. But not last night.” Julie said as I reread the article making the math in my head.
“Twenty-five years ago?,” I said amused. “Wow, you've missed A LOT.”
“What? No. No, no, no. Th-th-that's impossible. After we floated out of the ambulance, all we did was go to that weird dark room where Alex cried.” said the plaid-wearing one while the blonde guy looked kinda defensive.
“Well... I don't think,” he said with a really high- pitch voice. “I think we were all pretty upset. Ok.” he tried to correct with a nervous laugh.
“But that was only for like an hour,” said the brunette boy and turned to us. “We just showed up here.”
“Look. We're just telling you what my phone says.” Julie said while turning her phone towards them, her cross still firmly gripped in her other hand.
Why was she still holding it? It doesn't do them anything!
“See? You died in 1995,” I pointed at the article on the phone. “When you were 17.”
“It's now 2020.” Julie added.
“So.. this is the future?.” the plaid-wearing one said while trying to process everything.
“Wait. So... it has been 25 years,” said the blonde guy. “I have been crying for 25 years?! HOW is that possible?”
“You're a very emotional person.” the plaid-wearing one said with a frown.
“I AM not!.” the blonde guy shrieked.
“Thought you were afraid to come out here,” said Carlos walking in while looking at both of us. “Talking to your ghost friend? How does he look? Is he hideous?.” he asked while crossing his arms.
“He can see you.” the blonde guy retorted to the plaid-wearing one.
That made me laugh but I hid it with a cough.
“No, he can't.” said Julie while looking at the ghosts.
I gave her a look that said what the hell is going on? Why can we both see him but Carlos can't?
Carlos looked confused. “What?,” he said looking at his surroundings. “Are you talking to Sam?” he pointed at me.
“Um, yeah... what do you want?.” replied Julie nervously.
“A normal sister, for starters. Stop being weird and come eat.” he said while giving me a look that said Let's go.
“I, uh, I'll catch up with you later, champ, my aunt must be close.” I said with a nervous smile that he appeared to believe since he nodded and left.
“He couldn't see you.” said Julie while looking at me and then at the guys.
“Yeah. I mean, that's usually how ghosts work.” the blonde guy said while looking at his friends.
Julie sighs and then takes my hand to walk in front of the guys and confront them. “Look, we are very sorry for what happened to you guys, but this isn't your studio anymore. You have to leave.” she said firmly while turning around still tightly gripping my hand.
“But wait... we-we didn't get your names.” said the brunette boy while looking at both of us.
“It's Julie.” Julie said to then turn around expecting me to go with her.
“Um, and I'm Samantha, but my friends call me Sam.” I added.
“Cool,” the brunette boy smiled and I smiled back while Julie looked at me sternly. “I-I’m Luke... by-by the way,” he stepped back when Julie pointed at him with the cross. “a-and this is..”
“Reggie, I’m Reggie, hey.” added the plaid-wearing one with a smile.
“Aand..” Luke continued.
“Alex. How’s it going?.” said the blonde guy with a nervous smile.
“Ba-da.” said Luke softly while pointing at his friends and looking at both of us.
Julie didn’t look impressed. “Okay)?.” she said like she didn’t care while dropping her hand with the cross. Then she let go of my hand and turned around to walk to her house.
I just stood there while the guys looked at each other.
“Julie seems nice.” commented Reggie with a smile.
Alex sighed. “Did you miss the part where she kicked us out, or..?,” Reggie seemed to still be processing. “Yeah. Ok.”
I cleared my throat and they all realized I was still here.
“Well, um, never dealt with none of.. this before,” I said while waving my hand at them. “But I just want to say that I’m sorry for.. you know, screaming and..”
“A lot of screaming” Alex recalled with a grimace.
“Yeah,” I scratched my neck as a nervous tick. “Anyways..,” I continued when they remained silent. “Sorry for that and for threatening to call the ghostbusters, I don’t even have a number for that, but.. uh, yeah, sorry and I hope Julie let’s you stay, I actually have to go but weirdly I hope you get to stick around.” I smiled kindly and they all smiled back.
“Thanks, Sam, but.. don’t you live here?.” Luke said while looking at me.
“Unfortunately no, I just come to tutor Julie’s brother once and awhile, but…” my phone started to buzz and when I took it out it said Aunt Alice with a photo of her, all of the guys looked at it as I answered and turned around to talk with my aunt, missing completely the surprised looks of the guys behind my back.
“Hi, auntie,” I answered.
“Hey, Sammie, are you ready? I’m outside.” She replied.
“Oh, yeah, let me just grab my stuff and I’ll meet you at the front, bye.” I hung up and turned around to look at the guys who all looked at me wide eyed.
“Um, something wrong?.” I raise my eyebrow at them to just receive a chorus of: “Nope”, “Nothing”, “Everything good around here”
I looked at them suspiciously but let it slide. “I gotta leave, nice to meet you guys, hope we can talk later.” I waved goodbye to then walk away towards Carlos’s house where the three of them kept looking at me, kinda dumbfounded and with their jaws open.
What just happened?
Does someone want me to tag them for the series? Also, chapter 2?

Sunset Swerve - Part 11
Pairing: Luke Patterson x OC
Word Count: 3.3K
Warnings: discussions of death, one mention of suicide, swearing probably
A/N: I can’t believe there’s only one more chapter and maybe an epilogue after this! Our journey is almost over. Just a heads up, the first part of this is kinda heavy as Jordan grieves but things lighten up along the way! As always, let me know what you think and you can message me/send me an ask if you’d like to be added to my taglist!
Part 10  Masterlist
___
Jordan couldn’t properly explain how grateful she was for Luke’s hand in hers as Willie delivered the worst news she’d heard in her afterlife. She tried not to look too much into it, he was just returning the favor from his birthday. Still, she couldn’t deny the comfort she felt from it, like he was offering to share the weight of the situation with her.
She leaned into that comfort as the four ghosts went their separate ways. She spent the night in the loft wrapped up in his arms. Once they were alone she let herself cry, burying her face into his chest as he rubbed her back softly, holding her close to him.
They stayed that way until the sun came up, his arms wrapped tightly around her as she curled into him. They didn’t talk at all, neither of them really knowing what to say. Jordan wanted to scream at the world, to curse everyone and everything for taking her parents away from her once again. Instead, she relished in the silence, in the comfort of the arms around her. There would be time to scream tomorrow, but for the time being, she needed someone to help her carry the weight of her pain.
There was also a part of her that relished in the feelings of his arms around her, the warmth of his chest, the pleasant smell of his flannel which he’d wrapped around her when they left the Walk of Fame, insisting that she needed it more than him. The part of her that made butterflies swoop around her stomach and her head spin whenever they were this close.
She didn’t want to think about this part of her brain right now, Luke was only doing this because he cared. They were friends now (they’d actually been friends for a while, she realized) and friends were there for each other when they lost their parents, just like he’d been there for her twenty-five years ago. Just like she’d been there for him on his birthday.
Not to mention the guilt she felt every time her mind drifted away from thoughts of her parents to how comfortable but strong Luke’s chest was or how nice he smelled. She was losing her parents again and all she could think about was a boy.
She never stopped to consider that it was a testament to Luke’s comfort that her mind was able to stray at all.
Only once the sun came up and the world began to stir around them, the other boys returning and the lights in the Molina’s house started to flick on, did Luke speak as they untangled from each other.
“Are you okay?” He asked softly, his arms still wrapped loosely around her as she pulled away. “I mean, of course you’re not, but-“
“No, I’m not,” she agreed, her voice coming out rough after the night of crying. He could see the tear stains on her cheeks now and it broke his heart. “I think I need some time alone today.”
“Okay,” he said eagerly, stretching his legs out and reaching for his flannel as she fully pulled herself away from him. “Okay, we can go-“
“No, Luke,” she said firmly but she knew she sounded weak and exhausted. “Just me.”
“I don’t want to leave you by yourself like this.”
“What am I gonna do? Kill myself?” She responded bitterly, raising her arms at the side as a reminder of their physical state, or lack thereof.
“Jordan-“ he gasped, reaching out for her but she stepped back.
“I just need some time,” she insisted, the rest of her statement remaining silent. ‘Time to process without thinking about you.’
___
She reappeared in the cemetery, this time taking a seat in front of the double grave next to her own.
The last time she was there she’d been puzzling at mortality and the bizarre and unfair nature of the situation she’d found herself in. This time wasn’t so different, but rather than mourning herself she was once again mourning her parents. The two most important people in her life who were once again being ripped from her.
She didn’t know how long she sat there, unable to read the names on the tombstone in front of her, staring at the grass just in front of it. Briefly, she wished she had been able to bring them flowers. Time passed so differently as a ghost and her spiraling thoughts didn’t help any. The time she spent there was muddled and tear-filled. She thought at one point she pleaded with them to come back to her. At another point, she prayed to whatever gods she could think of.
No one answered and so she remained.
She was finally drawn out of her mind by the sound of footsteps moving towards her. She turned, expecting to see a fellow mourner but instead meeting Julie’s eyes.
She sniffled, turning back towards the grave, not bothering to hide her tears.
“Do you mind if I sit?” Julie asked softly when she finally reached her.
Jordan shook her head, not turning to look as her friend sat in the grass beside her.
“Luke told me everything,” Julie spoke up after they had sat in silence for a few minutes, “About Caleb and the curse, and the Orpheum, and crossing over.”
“I’m sorry we’re leaving you,” Jordan whispered, pulling her knees tighter to her chest.
“Me too,” Julie responded quietly, “I was really mad- I still am- but then Flynn and I talked and she reminded me that I’m not the only one who’s lost people.”
They let her words hang in the air for a moment before Jordan finally spoke, the words catching in her throat as they went.
“It feels like I’m losing them all over again.”
Julie nodded and Jordan caught the movement from the corner of her eye.
“I can’t even imagine what that’s like,” she whispered, likely thinking about her own mom. “But hope isn’t lost. We just have to make sure you guys cross over in time.”
“They’re never gonna let us play the Orpheum,” Jordan dismissed, resting her chin on her knees as she stared tearfully at the ground, the anger welling up at her situation being overpowered by the hopelessness of it all.
“They will, they just have to hear us play and-“
“It’s okay Julie, I’ve resigned myself to the fact,” Jordan interrupted.
“Well I haven’t,” Julie said firmly before taking a shaky breath as if trying to brace herself for what she was going to say next.
“I lost my mom, and I’m not getting her back anytime soon.” Her voice cracked. “The least I can do is make sure you don’t lose yours too.”
___
When Julie and Jordan arrived at the studio they found the guys looking about as hopeless as Jordan felt. It was nice to know she wasn’t alone, but it hurt her to see them this way.
Reggie was sitting sideways in one of the chairs, looking mournfully at his bass while Alex laid across the couch, attempting to balance one of his drumsticks in his nose, and Luke sat on the floor between them. The scene itself wasn’t out of the ordinary, Jordan had watched them spend many a boring afternoon this way, but it was clear that the tone had shifted. They weren’t biding their time until Julie got home from school. They were biding their time until they died again.
“Snap out of it!” Julie yelled, startling the three boys who didn’t seem to have noticed their presence, Alex falling off the couch in shock.
“Geez, I think you broke Alex,” Reggie spoke, though his usually light, teasing tone was absent.
Once Luke helped push Alex off his lap and back onto the couch he patted the ground by his side in a silent invitation for Jordan to join him. Once she had sat down next to him, knees pulled up to her chest once more, he slipped a comforting arm around her, hand resting on her waist. If the rest of the group noticed, they didn’t say anything.
“Do you guys wanna cross over or what?” Julie asked, giving the ghosts a borderline disapproving look before getting frustrated by their silence. “Get it together!” She exclaimed, clapping her hands with each word for extra emphasis.
“They’re never gonna let us play the Orpheum,” Luke spoke, echoing Jordan’s words from earlier.
“We’re nobodies,” Alex added on, matching Luke’s dejected tone.
“We’re less than nobodies,” Reggie chimed in. “We have no bodies.”
Luke lifted his arm to point affirmatively at Reggie and Jordan almost laughed, but she couldn’t quite find it in her.
“Someone once told me that you don’t ask for permission,” Julie spoke, turning to address Luke specifically, “You book gigs by doing.”
Jordan rolled her eyes at the smug look that had appeared on Luke’s face, throwing an elbow into his side in an attempt to wipe away the expression.
“Ah yes, the Dumb-set Curve motto,” Jordan scoffed. In retaliation Luke used the hand already resting on her waist to jab at her side, causing her to curse and glare at him while he grinned cheekily.
“This isn’t over,” Julie spoke to the group, refocusing their attention. “We were brought together for a reason! To help each other.”
“Yeah, but like Luke said, people don’t just play the Orpheum because they want to,” Alex sighed and the rest of the ghosts nodded in agreement, the smile slipping off Luke’s face again.
“People don’t,” Julie agreed, “But ghosts do.”
Jordan turned to stare at Julie, her head tilted and eyebrows knitted together in confusion and curiosity.
“I have a plan,” Julie said before launching into an explanation.
There would be a show at the Orpheum that Friday night. All they needed to do was get rid of the opening act and get the promoter to offer the gig to them. This could actually work. For the first time since Jordan heard the news from Willie she actually began to feel hopeful.
___
Alex had managed to enlist Willie to their cause which was fortunate because Jordan was pretty sure none of the rest of them could drive a bus.
The four ghosts stood outside the Orpheum that Friday afternoon anxiously waiting for Willie to appear. Jordan had grabbed Luke’s hand early on and neither one had let go. It seemed that everyone’s spirits were higher that day than they were the day before, as Jordan noticed both Reggie and Alex occasionally glancing at their entwined hands and sharing knowing looks. She wasn’t quite back to where she’d be able to yell at them for it.
She had just started to contemplate if she’d still be holding Luke’s hand if it didn’t feel like the only thing keeping her grounded while everything fell apart around her when they were struck by another jolt, immediately tearing her from her thoughts.
“Hey, you guys okay?” Willie asked, appearing behind them as they each clutched their chests where the jolt hit them.
“Yeah,” Alex answered, the first to turn around and face the skater ghost. “Yeah, it’s nothing we haven’t felt before.”
“How’d it go?” Jordan asked, trying not to sound too hopeful. There was always the chance that their plan wouldn’t work.
“Well, when that opening band wakes up they’re going to find their bus two-hundred miles outside Vegas with no chance of getting back in time!” Willie announced with a giggle, adding a spin to emphasize his success.
“And that means there’s probably a promoter upstairs right about now freaking out,” Luke spoke, bumping his shoulder excitedly against Jordan’s with a grin, causing the girl to grin back at him.
“Nah, this is Hollywood man. I’m sure he’s being very professional,” Willie contradicted and Jordan rolled her eyes, not believing it for a second.
“Sure he is,” she said sarcastically.
The group lapsed into a tense silence after that, no one knowing what to say. A moment later Alex stepped closer to Willie, the two boys clearly about to have a moment. Jordan tugged on Luke’s hand, guiding him away to give Alex and Willie some privacy, and Luke gestured for Reggie to do the same.
“Jordan are you doing alright?” Reggie asked, trying to fill the silence while Alex and Willie spoke behind them. “We didn’t see much of you yesterday and you’ve seemed a bit… lost, since the other night.”
She couldn’t help the way her heart warmed at the fact that he’d noticed and cared enough to inquire about her, but she also couldn’t help the way her stomach dropped at the prospect of having to tell him what was going on.
“Reg, Jordan’s doesn’t have to-“ Luke began to cover for her but she squeezed his hand, stopping his words.
“It’s okay, Luke,” she said quietly before addressing the dark-haired boy. “How about if the plan works I’ll tell you, hmm?”
Reggie nodded, cheeks slightly flushed in embarrassment at having overstepped.
The sound of Willie skateboarding away pulled them all from their thoughts, the three ghosts turning to rejoin Alex.
“Alex, you alright man?” Luke asked.
“Yeah,” Alex said, and Jordan was surprised that while he seemed to be psyching himself up to say it, he sounded sincere. “Yeah, I’m okay.”
“Well, thanks to Willie, Panic! at the Disco needs an opening band,” Luke grinned, giving Jordan’s hand a quick squeeze in reassurance and excitement.
“Then I guess there’s someone up there that needs to know we’re available,” Alex responded and the group shared knowing smiles before poofing up onto the Orpheum office.
They were immediately greeted by the screams and shouts of an angry promoter.
“Stop saying the bus drove itself! Busses don’t drive themselves!” The bald man yelled into the receiver before slamming the phone down several times.
“Yeah, total pro,” Jordan muttered sarcastically, rolling her eyes at the grown man’s temper tantrum.
“Alright, boys- and girl-“ Luke squeezed her hand and Jordan was reminded of the night they died when Luke had addressed them similarly. “Let the magic happen. Alex, no dancing.”
Luke smirked when Alex jumped into a ballet pose before gracefully twirling behind the assistant’s desk and knocking over her pencil cup. Jordan grinned, jumping into action with the other boys as she poofed over to Alex, snatching the pen from his hand as she wrote down Julie’s name and number on a sticky note.
They all stepped away at once, Jordan dropping her pen on the paper as if it had burnt her, as the woman stood back up, having collected her belongings off the floor. Once she was back in her seat she was greeted by the sounds of Edge of Great playing through her computer speakers. Her bewildered expression was replaced with an impressed look as she watched their performance and the ghost surrounding her all shared a proud smile.
“Tasha! Get CJ on the phone, tell him I need a new band in three hours,” the promoter demanded.
“Sure, but you, might wanna check this out,” she said, and the promoter hung up the phone before walking over to see what she was talking about. Jordan poofed back to Luke’s side to stay out of the man’s way as he stood in the place she had just been. “Somehow this video started playing on my laptop. It got half a million hits in just two days.”
“Who are they?”
“They’re a hologram band. They call themselves Julie and the Phantoms.”
“Tell your friends,” Reggie chimed in even though neither of the lifers could hear him.
“Where are they located?” The promoter asked.
“Our very own City of Angel.”
“Book ‘em!” The producer exclaimed as if he couldn’t believe they were even having this conversation.
The band of ghosts cheered as Tasha stared puzzled at the pad of paper on her desk. She looked around suspiciously as she examined the contact information for Julie and the Phantoms.
“Wow your handwriting is better than mine,” Luke admitted grumpily as they all leaned over the woman’s shoulder.
“Obviously,” Jordan shot back snarkily with her signature eye roll and Luke reached down to rejoin their hands, smiling softly down at her and sending the butterflies in her stomach aflutter.
They poofed back to the studio after that, immediately greeted by an extremely anxious Julie pacing back and forth.
“Oh my gosh! What took you so long? Did Willie do it? Did you talk to them? Did they watch? Did they like us? Are we playing? Can someone answer me? Why is no one talking?” Julie questioned them rapid-fire, her arms waving around wildly as she did.
“Woah! That’s a lot of questions!” Reggie exclaimed, eyes wide. “Luke, you wanna take this one?”
“Take a seat,” Luke instructed, Julie sitting on the edge of the couch while the four ghosts gathered on the floor across from her.
“Everything’s fine,” Jordan chimed in, hoping to ease her friend’s worries.
“Yeah, you should be getting a call right…now!” Alex exclaimed, pointing at Julie’s phone in the middle of the coffee table however the screen remained blank.
Julie looked worriedly between the four ghosts before Alex spoke up again.
“Okay. Right… now!” Alex tried again, this time the phone ringing a second later.
Julie cheered excitedly, staring expectantly at the ghosts in front of her while the phone continued to ring.
“Answer it!” Jordan exclaimed while the guys gestured franticly towards the device.
“Oh! Right!” Julie slid her finger across the screen, answering the call. “Hello!”
“Hi, this is Tasha from the Orpheum in Hollywood,” the woman’s voice came through the speakers.
The room was suddenly filled with energy as the band began jumping around excitedly.
“Is this Julie of Julie and the Phantoms?” The woman’s voice rang out and Julie flung her arms out causing the ghosts to freeze their actions before she leaned forwards to scoop up her phone.
“Yes, it is,” Julie responded.
The room erupted once more into cheers from the ghosts and silent screams from Julie as they jumped around the studio. They were playing the Orpheum!
For the first time in over twenty-four hours, Jordan wasn’t thinking about her parents, her head filled with the brown-haired boy who was still clutching her hand even in his excitement and who’s smile created flurries of butterflies in her stomach and caused her heart to swell with emotions she could quite explain.
Too caught up in her feelings and the excitement of the moment to think about what she was doing, Jordan tilted up onto her tip-toes and planted a quick kiss on Luke’s cheek before pulling away to jump celebrate with Alex and Reggie. However, before she could get far, Luke was pulling her back by their still-connected hands.
“You missed,” he said quietly before he leaned down and connected their lips.
The kiss was brief but felt like it lasted an eternity. Jordan’s mind went completely blank and her body moved on autopilot, gripping Luke’s hand like it was the only thing tethering her to existence. In the back of her mind, she registered the end of Julie’s phone call with the woman from the Orpheum and Alex and Reggie’s cheers dying off. If her brain hadn’t short-circuited she probably would’ve connected the sudden silence with the rest of the band staring at her and Luke however that reality didn’t hit her until they pulled away.
Their cheeks flushed as they stepped away from each other, meeting each other’s eyes just long enough for Jordan to give him a brief smile before letting go of his hand and skipping excitedly towards Alex and Reggie who seemed torn between wanting to comment and pretending they hadn’t seen.
“Say something and I promise I’ll find a way to kill you both again,” Jordan threatened cheerfully as she threw her arms around their shoulders before tilting her head back and shouting excitedly, “We’re playing the Orpheum!”
“We’re playing the Orpheum, baby!” Julie repeated throwing her arms into the air and the guys all responded with whoops and cheers, Luke and Jordan’s kiss momentarily forgotten.

Chapter 1 : The New Girl
Blaire hated first impressions. They made her feel awkward and it was always a case of, i promise i’m not this awkward, i just hate first impressions. just wait until you get to know me more. Although, she has been saying that to people for the past 3 years everytime she moved, so it was kind of like second nature to her and it just kind of went over her head. Blaire hates goodbyes, so she tries not to get too close to anyone anymore because then it would just be a mess of saying goodbye and omg i promise i’ll text and call every night! They never did call.
This time it was different, though. Blaire walked into Los Feliz High School on her first day and she instantly spotted two girls, one with beautiful dark-colored skin with an incredible fashion sense and a second one with curls to die for. Blaire wished her flat, sort of wavy, damaged, aburn colored-hair did what that beautiful girl’s hair did. Something inside her just set a spark off and she just had to talk to them. Something was compelling her to be their friend, so Blaire did just that against her better judgement.
“Hi..” Blaire spoke up softly once she was close enough to the two friends. Their conversation had cut short at the sound of a new voice and they turned their heads towards Blaire. A smile found it’s way onto the curly-haired girl’s lips. Her smile was soft, it brought an immense calming feeling over Blaire’s persona.
“Hey, are you new here?” The curly-haired girl’s voice was soft and Blaire didn’t know what she was expecting but it definitely wasn’t the girl just knowing she was new at the school. Most people never even payed attention to new kids, they hardly ever knew that there were new kids in the first place. Blaire couldn’t help the smile finding it’s way onto her lips.
“Um, yeah. I am, how’d you know?” Blaire chuckles a little, holding her backpack straps tighter. The girl just shrugged a little, chuckling too.
“Just a hunch. I’m Julie. That’s Flynn over there.” She motioned over to the girl with pretty box-braids and that still, incredible, fashion sense. Flynn waved with a small smile.
“I’m Blaire, by the way. I love you fashion sense.” Blaire says looking at Flynn who smiles deeply, glancing down to see what outfit she had on today.
“Thank you! I’d be damned if I didn’t win best dressed senior year.” Flynn laughs glancing between Blaire and Julie who join in on her laughter.
“They would be wrong to not vote for you. Nobody can top Flynn’s style.” Julie says glancing over at Blaire who nods in agreement. There really wasn’t anyone who could match what Flynn was pulling off. Blaire was a little jealous herself, if she was being honest.
“It’s true. It really is incredible. You’ll have to give me some tips.” Blaire says glancing down at her own clothes. Just a simple jean jacket pulled over a peach t-shirt tucked into some denim shorts.
“Girl, you already look fab, but don’t worry, I’ll hit you up with the good people.” Flynn winked and Blaire laughed and nodded. She already loved these girls and she’s barely known them for 5 minutes. She didn’t know what it was, but there was just something about them that was making her want to be apart of their friend group and know more about them. These girls held their heads high, they were confident, strongly independent, Blaire could literally feel it. She really had never met people like these girls before.
“What class do you have first? Maybe if it’s around where we are we can all walk together?” Julie suggested and Blaire quickly dug her schedule from her pocket. It was a little ripped and tattered but it was still readable.
“Umm, AP Literature with Mrs. Shall.” Blaire read aloud and she heard Flynn let out what sounded like an impressed whistle.
“So you’re like, smart smart. Okay Blaire, I see you.” Flynn coos and Blaire’s face went a little red at that. She just shrugs, to her it wasn’t really a big deal. Her dad always wanted her to take all the advanced classes to help her transcript and all that stuff to do with getting into a good college.
“Not really. I bet there’s so many other people who are smarter than me. I’m actually more into music and stuff.” Blaire admits and this was the first time she’s opened up this much about herself on the first day. Usually, it’d take her a few days to crack because she put a wall up because she hated letting people in only to leave not long after. This was different, though. Much different.
“No way, us too. Julie’s actually in a band.” Flynn says and Blaire pushes her eyebrow up at Julie who smiles shyly. Blaire looks her over once more before it finally clicks in her head.
“Wait, you’re Julie and the Phantoms?” Blaire asks in disbelief. Ever since she saw that youtube video last year of the band performing, she’s been in love. They sang and sounded like angels and Julie had such an amazing stage presence.
“Guilty.” Julie chuckles and Blaire’s eyes widen even more. She squeals a little bit quickly shuts her mouth in embarrassment. Julie and Flynn both chuckle at her little squeal.
“Sorry, that was embarrassing. You guys are amazing I’ve seen the youtube video and listened to a few of the tracks you guys have recorded. It’s all amazing. You guys sound so great together.” Blaire gushes, her inner fan girl coming out. Julie smiles warmly at her words always loving the positive feedback.
“Thank you, that means a lot. We’ve been working really hard this past year to bring good stuff to the table. We’re excited.” Julie smiles and Blaire had to stop herself from squealing again.
“That’s awesome. I’ll definitely be looking forward to it. Plus, however you do those holograms, that’s literally incredible. It looks so real, too.” Blaire gushes again not being able to contain herself.
“Julie, I think she’s a keeper. She loves the band and she’s really nice.” Flynn says glancing over at Blaire who found herself blushing again at the hospitality. She’s never been treated this nicely by people she’s met on her first day. Blaire could say they were keepers too.
Before the three could do anything else, there was a sound of a bell that Blaire assumed it meant it was time to head to first period.
“Quick, run us down your schedule, we have to have classes with you at some point or at least B lunch.” Julie speaks up quickly and Blaire nods, pulling her schedule out again to read it down to the girls.
“AP Lit, Calculus II, French III, AP Government, Music, B lunch!, AP Biology, and free period.” Blaire reads aloud and Julie and Flynn jump around in excitement that she had B lunch with them.
“Awesome! I have Calc II in second period so I’ll see you then.” Julie says with a smile and she waved before walking off down the hallway to class.
“My class is in the direction of AP Lit so I’ll be glad to walk with you.” Flynn says holding out her arm for Blaire to link with. The auburn-haired girl smiled warmly as she linked arms with her new friend and started their way in the opposite direction Julie went.
“So, Miss Blaire, tell me about yourself. I want to know everything.” Flynn starts and Blaire chuckles. She pauses to try and think of something interesting but her life wasn’t really that interesting. Well..none of what she could say anyway..
“I like dogs?” Blaire says grimacing at how bland and boring that sounded.
“Dogs are cool. What kind of music are you into and any special talents with instruments?” Flynn continues not missing a beat and Blaire smiles, liking that Flynn wanted to get to know her. It was a nice change of pace.
“Well I can play the piano 100%. I’m kind of self-taught? I just picked it up one day when I was like 8 and it went from there. I’ve been trying to learn the guitar but I’m not the greatest at it and I guess I can sort of sing?” Blaire shrugs. Singing wasn’t really her main passion, she liked it, it was just kind of something she did on the side though. Her mom always told her she should have taken it further because according to her mom, she had a really nice signing voice.
“A girl with many talents. I like it. You should definitely stop by Julie’s sometime and we can see what you got up your sleeve.” Flynn says nudging her again and Blaire chuckles with a small nod.
“Alright, yeah. Definitely. What about you miss fashionista?” Blaire asks raising her eyebrow. She wanted to know more about Flynn, too considering how she held herself and her very outgoing personality.
“I’m not so much of a singer, but I do like DJing and I can play the trumpet.” Flynn says and Blaire nods impressively. This girl really could do it all and was it all.
“Djing, I like it. It suits you.” Blaire says and Flynn smiles as they slow down to a bunch of open classrooms students were walking in to.
“Alright, see you later Blaire. Stay fresh.” Flynn says before breaking off and heading into her own classroom. Blaire chuckles with a smile before turning into her own classroom.
The girl scans the room, trying to find a good seat when someone suddenly runs into her, almost sending her flying but they were quick to catch her.
“Oh shit, my bad. Are you okay?” Blaire breaks away from whoever’s grasp she was in to meet eyes with a blue eyed, crazy brown haired boy who had a very concerned look on his face.
“Oh yeah, I’m good. Sorry.” Blaire rushes out shaking her head and the boy raises his eyebrow.
“You’re sorry? I nearly knocked you over. Are you sure you’re okay?” He asks and Blaire tilts her head a little. Maybe it was something in this school’s water but everyone she’s met so far, not mentioning it’s only been 2 people, has been extremely nice. All the people from other schools across California have been stuck up and extremely arrogant.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Save yourself the sweat, crazy hair.” Blaire felt a little bold so she went for it, adding in the little nickname. She saw him smile a little before quickly taming his wild head of hair.
“That bad, huh?” He says and Blaire nods. She spotted an open seat in the middle row so she started to make a beeline for it. Middle row seats were the best after all, not too close to the teacher, and not too far away to get caught up in whatever drugs were being passed in the back row. Blaire found her seat and the same crazy haired boy followed after her, grabbing the seat beside hers.
“This seat taken?” He asks raising his eyebrow and Blaire chuckles and shakes her head.
“Be my guest.” Blaire says and the boy smiles. She gives him an amused smile back before pulling out her notebook for the class and a pencil.
“Oh, I’m Ryan by the way.” The boy spoke up again and Blaire glances at him with a smile.
“Blaire.” She responds and the boy returns her smile. Maybe this new change wouldn’t be so bad after all..she could rebuild herself, wash away everything anyone’s ever known about her and start new. I mean, she deserved it, right?
Blaire caught sight of Julie as soon as she entered the classroom and the girl waved her over. Blaire quickly hurried over to her and grabbed the seat next to Julie’s desk before anyone else could take it.
“So what do you think so far? Are you liking it?” Julie pushes her questions and Blaire laughs. She shrugged because she’s only had one period and met about 3 people so she couldn’t judge it yet.
“I’ll let you know around lunch, I’ve only met like 3 people so far.” Blaire laughs and Julie pushes up her eyebrow and a smirk falls on her lips.
“3? Who’s the lucky third?” Julie teases and Blaire just shakes her head with a chuckle.
“I met him last period. It’s name Ryan.” Blaire explains and Julie was already oohing and ahhing.
“Sounds like you two had a good interaction.” Julie says poking her friend’s cheek to indicate there was a blush on them. Blaire pushes her hand away and rolls her eyes.
“I don’t even know him so let’s not take it that far.” Blaire laughs and Julie only shrugs.
“Mark my words, Blaire. I know and see everything.” Julie says with a smirk. Blaire laughs and nods just to make Julie happy. The two girls turn in their seats when the teacher comes in, indicating it was time to start class. They exchange one last smile before pulling out their notes to start class.
Blaire didn’t notice it at first, she was too focused on copying the notes down in time before the teacher switched to the next slide because he was going a little too fast. Blaire had never really been a math wiz but she wasn’t bad at it. She did good and maintained a B+ to A average so she was satisfied and her dad was pretty satisfied with her scores too. He used to be really strict and really pounded into her head that she needed to do well, but ever since her mom passed away a few years ago, he’s laid off a little which Blaire was grateful for.
It was the pink pullover that caught Blaire’s eye that made her turn her head in Julie’s direction to see what was going on. Not really sure what she expecting when she looked, but it definitely wasn’t a boy with Troy Bolton hair, black jeans, vans, a pink pullover standing in front of Julie’s desk. Blaire blinked and then blinked again to make sure what she was seeing was real. She swears the boy wasn’t in the class and she didn’t know how the teacher didn’t see him standing right in front of Julie’s desk.
Blaire glanced at the teahcer, who still didn’t notice the boy standing right there. Was she like seeing things? But she couldn’t be seeing things if Julie was looking right at this kid and scribbling things down into her notebook like she was talking to him. Julie finally glanced over at Blaire for a quick second but she didn’t miss that confused glance and the direction she was looking in. Blaire saw Julie and the kid exchange a glance before looking back at her with wide eyes.
Julie quickly shot her arm up and Blaire suddenly became a little worried.
“Yes, Miss Molina?” The teahcer asks, stopping his lesson. Julie glances to Blaire, a look telling her to follow her lead.
“May Blaire and I use the bathroom? Girl problems.” Julie says and Blaire raised her eyebrow wondering how Julie had that much confidence to say that in front of the whole class. She heard the class snicker a little but the teacher clapped his hands, telling them to be quiet.
“Yes, you may.” The teacher says and Julie nods a thank you. She glances at Blaire and motions for her to follow her out. Blaire quickly packs her backpack up and follows Julie out of the room without another word. The boy in the pink pullover followed after them and yet, he still hasn’t been seen or mentioned by anyone in the classroom.
Julie pulled Blaire around the corner, stopping the two of them where they were out of earshot from any other classrooms. Blaire looks between Julie and the boy very confused and very worried because Julie looked surprised, not worried, but shocked.
“You can see him? Like right here, in front of your face?” Julie asks pointing over at the boy and Blaire glances at the boy who meets her eyes and slowly nods.
“Am I not supposed to be able to see him?..” Blaire trails off slightly. She was getting lost and Julie and the boy exchange another glance.
“What am I wearing?” The boy asks glancing down at his outfit and Blaire looks it over again too.
“A pink pullover with black jeans and checkered vans.” Blaire explains what she sees and Julie’s eyes widen. Blaire was still very confused as to what was happening and why Julie was so surprised she could see this cute boy in front of her.
“She can see me! She can see me! Do you think she can see Alex and Reggie too?” The boy exclaims jumping up and down now and Blaire glances at Julie for help. The girl lets out a sigh.
“Looks like we’ve got a alot of explaining to do..”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today was the day they’d get Julie back into the program. Whether Julie was fully on board with it or not. They’d rehearsed it with her time and time again last night, the boys knew she was going to kill it. So Luke was confused when she looked annoyed.
They’d decided to come support her. Alex and Reggie had been pacing the garage waiting for any news of how it was going. Luke took charge and, taking them each by the hand, zapped them over to what seemed to be a school hall. He didn’t know how he got here, he just felt this sense of searching for Julie and he found her.
“Yeah we make them say wow!”
A lot of colours flooded Luke’s peripheral vision. He turned his head to see a group of girls in vibrant clothes, performing amazingly he wasn’t ashamed to say. They were good. But the glare he felt on the side of his face from Julie snapped him out of it, the slight bobbing he was doing to the beat coming to a halt. Then he followed Julie’s gaze to Alex, who seemed like he was having the time of his life. With little slap of his arm, Luke told him to cut it out; no words needed.
As the song came to an end, Luke began to see why Julie was so aggravated as the one in the bright pink took centre stage, standing directly in front of the other band members in a line. “WE LOVE YOU CARRIE!” Luke zoned out for a minute. What about the others? “… make sure to check out my new music video!” And with that they sauntered off, swaying their hips as they went. Together they had such presence on stage, why didn’t she share the glory?
“Now’s your chance, go talk to her.” Luke turned his head to see the girl from Julie’s house earlier walking away from them towards the seating area. “What are you waiting for?”
“Yeah, I mean you look nervous. Like yack in a bowl nervous.”
Julie looked up at Luke. There was this sparkle in her eyes trying to break through the utter terror she felt. “I wouldn’t have given you the song if I didn’t think you were gonna rock it.” He tried to be energetic, hoping the positivity would build her up. It may not have been a lot but hopefully, it was enough to get her on that stage. “Now there’s a piano on that stage with your name on it.” She took off towards backstage.
Approaching the keyboard, Luke started to feel nervous himself. There were butterflies in his stomach. He knew how much this meant to her and all he wanted was for her to rock it. She tried to play a chord but they all knew it was the wrong one. Looking out at the hall, she looked like she could’ve bolted at any minute.
“You got this!”
Of course, there was a part of Luke that thought that maybe, just maybe, they could’ve been soulmates but there was this part of him telling him: this wasn’t it. He remembered back to the night before. Reggie lounging on the sofa after taking a shower. He couldn’t really get the hang of it so far but he was a determined little fella. He’d get that shower at some point, Luke knew that much. The leather jacketed boy asked “do you think we still have soulmates?” Luke hadn’t paid much attention to that thought before. But now, he couldn’t get it out of his head.
“Sometimes I think I’m falling down.”
Luke mimed along to the words, urging her to keep going. She was insane. The talent she had, he couldn’t imagine meeting anyone like her.
“Life is a risk, but I will take it…”
It was building up to the chorus. He felt the chords vibrating through his body. His hands making the chords and strumming on an invisible guitar. He looked over at the boys. He could see they felt the same. They wanted to be on that stage.
And the next minute, they were.
“And rise, through the night, you and I, we will fight to shine together.”
Smiling at Julie, the joy he felt was indescribable. He almost felt complete at that moment. It was then he noticed the audience. They were looking at him. Actually looking at him. This couldn’t be happening, but he loved it.
“Uh, is this really happening?” Julie had moved next to him, looking completely confused. He couldn’t stop smiling. “Just go with it.” He took the mic, taking the next verse. Julie riled up the audience whilst the other boys were in their element. The rest of the song went by in a flash. They soaked up the applause until they literally flashed away, appearing again at the side of the stage by the audience.
What just happened?
———————————————————————————————————
The boys were still reeling off of what had happened. They were seen by the whole school whilst they were singing with Julie. It was amazing and none of them could contain their excitement. After leaving Julie talking to her friend, they decided to let off some steam by running around the corridors. Honestly, it felt freeing. He had never liked school much when he was alive but sprinting through the halls of a place he hated, made him feel alive.
It wasn’t until they heard a faint sound of strumming that they stopped. “What do you think that is?” Reggie was always curious. “I don’t know.” Alex always preferred a certain answer. “Let’s go find out.” Luke wanted to explore. Even though they didn’t have to be quiet, they found themselves tiptoeing towards a room past two large doors. A piano sat to the left, chairs scattered throughout the middle and a girl and her guitar sitting in the corner. Her eyes red, puffy. He could tell she had been crying, a twang ricocheting in his own heart. He’d been there before too.
But he didn’t realise just how similar it was until he heard the lyrics. Alex had already picked up on it. His gaze lingering on Luke as he waited for him to react. Reggie was still smiling, living off the high of performing again. Then he looked at Alex and felt that he was missing something.
“How can you miss someone you’ve never met. Cause I need you now but I don’t know you yet. But can you find me soon because I’m in my head? Yeah…”
“I need you now but I don’t know you yet.” Luke whispered the words to himself. They were the same words he had written 25 years ago in his bedroom. Who knew he would hear them again here. He began to approach her, Alex’s hand only grazing his arm in an attempt to stop him. Luke was never the best at first impressions. “You’re singing my song.” It came out harsher than he meant it. But he figured she wouldn’t hear him anyway. That’s the upside of being a ghost, no awkward first…
“Excuse me?” She’d heard him. She was looking at him. Right in the eyes. There was a wave of disbelief clouding her eyes, but that seemed to only be there to disguise the nervous tones underneath.  He broke eye contact to glance at Alex and Reggie. They seemed just as surprised. He took in a deep breath, attempting to build up some courage after the seemingly stand-offish introduction he just made. “That song I wrote it.”At that moment, her face fell slightly.
“Oh.”

“You’re talking as if you’ve meet them,” Julie observes, brown eyes curious as she looks at the other as they walk past a flower shop. Julie doesn’t miss the way Morgan plucks a flower right out of a display vase, or how a new one had found it’s way to the place in which Morgan had just stolen a flower. Bringing the flower to their nose, giving it a small sniff before holding it out towards Julie who tentatively grabs it, feeling tears prickle her eyes. The flower that now rest in her hands was a dahlia, her mother’s favourite flower. “Reggie told you about her?”

Story of Another Us pt. 2
Tumblr media
Pairing: Past Luke Patterson x Reader
Description: Julie shows you Luke’s song (this is mostly all dialogue)
Warnings: mentions of death
Requested: Yes
Word Count: 1k
Part 1 -- Masterlist
“Hi Mrs. l/n? I’m Julie Molina,” Julie holds out her hand toward you and you tilt your head to the side, confused as to who the girl is. Nonetheless you shake her hand.
“I’m sorry but do I know you?” Julie chuckles and looks down at the paper she holds in her hands.
“No uh actually this may seem super weird,” Julie pauses and you wait patiently by the door. “You used to know a Luke Patterson right?”
You freeze. You haven’t heard that name since you stopped visiting Luke’s parents ten years ago. Your heart clenches at the mention of your ex-boyfriend and you do your best to ignore the tears welling up in your eyes. You realize you haven’t answered and clear your throat.
“Yes, yes I did,” You notice the papers in her hands and you catch a glimpse of the familiar handwriting which forms another knot in the back of your throat. “Why don’t you come in? It’s cold and I was about to make some Hot Chocolate.”
Julie smiles thankfully and glances behind her once you turn around, making eye contact with Luke, who stood by the door, invisible to you. Julie closes the door behind her and follows you wordlessly into the kitchen where you place a pot with milk on the stove.
“So is there a reason why you’re here asking about my ex-boyfriend?” You ask, and spoken by anyone else the question might come off as rude, but the soft smile on your face and kind eyes did nothing but reassure Julie in her reasons for coming here.
“I live in the house, where Luke and his band used to practice,” Julie says and you turn around, brows raised. You know that house like the back of your hand, or well you used to. You can’t count the number of times you stayed at the garage turned studio for hours at a time. Studying, reading, sleeping, listening. “Their stuff is still there and I found Luke’s journal. He wrote this song and it had a note at the end with your name on it. I’m guessing he wrote it for you.” Julie holds out the papers and you gulp.
You reach a shaky hand forward, closing your eyes when your fingers make contact. Your eyes skim over the lyrics, tears now freely falling down your face. Everything about the song screamed Luke. It’s angsty and raw and pure and so beautifully written but once you finished reading it, following the melody written in the margins, you are left confused. You’re about to voice your confusion when a small voice enters the kitchen.
Julie widens her eyes from the counter as he sees a cute eight-year-old with two missing front teeth, the spitting image of his mother.
“Mommy why are you crying?” You look down at your son, a sad smile filling your face.
“Oh it’s nothing Luke, mommy is just being emotional.” You turn to the stove to place the chocolate in the already heated milk, wanting to do anything but think of the song. “Why don’t you go wait in the living room. Hot chocolate is almost done.”
With that the boy leaves but not before giving his mother a hug and sending Julie a smile. Once you were sure he was out of earshot you turn to the girl, who was already looking at you.
“I am happy in my marriage,” you start.
“I never meant to imply that you weren’t” Julie panics, wondering if this had really been the best idea. You raise your hand, signaling that you weren’t done. You grip the song lyrics tighter in your hands.
“I am happy but that doesn’t mean that I don’t miss him, all of them. So I ask you this Julie, with an open mind. When was this song written?” Julie freezes, not sure how to respond.
“What do you mean? I’m guessing sometime in the early 90s?” Her voice raises an octave, and she mentally cursing her inability to lie.
You shake your head. “This, this is a breakup song. An I will miss you and I still think about you song. When Luke died, we were happily together. Sure we fought from time to time but never to the extent of breaking up. So I ask you again Julie, when was this written?” You stare at the girl dead on, refusing to back down. Julie sighs and looks to the seemingly empty space behind you. You turn around confused and are only met with your plant that is in desperate need of watering.
Julie’s voice snaps you out of your thoughts. “This is going to sound insane but it was written approximately three weeks ago.” You lean over to stir the hot chocolate, trying to gather your thought because this was not what you were expecting. Sure you asked the question but you were kind of hoping Julie would tell you that you’re insane and that it was written in 1995.
“What,” You finally speak, voice barely above a whisper.
“It’s a long story,” she says. You turn off the stove and start pouring three separate cups of the beverage. You hand her one of them and she takes it with a smile.
“I have time.” And so Julie told you. About her mom dying, not playing music for a year, finding a CD that caused the guys to come back as ghosts, and forming a band. By the end of the story the tears have stopped but you can’t seem to find your voice.
“Is he here?” You question. Julie once again looks behind you, asking a question with her eyes. She nods her head. You stay silent for a moment. “This is stupid because I am going to feel like I am talking to air but hi Luke.” Julie’s eyes widen, not expecting you to talk to him and Luke rushes to your side, looking at you as tears well up in your eyes again. “I miss you, a lot. And it’s been twenty-five years and I moved on but you will always be my first love and I am damn happy I got to be your last.”
Luke starts crying and although you can’t see him, Julie feels as if she’s intruding on a moment between the two of you. “Me too,” Luke whispers before poofing away. Julie reaches for your hand offering you a smile.
“Thank you,” you whisper. “For giving me this.”
“You’re welcome.”

Chapter One
~|Emily Fox| ~
As a seventeen-year-old, you should not be left to your devices. Unless you have no other choice. When you have a dream your parents have called unrealistic without ever listening to what you were actually capable of, you have no other choice but to move out and fend for yourself. Thankfully, I can stay with Uncle Mitch for a while until I’m off to college.  Since leaving my parents’ house at fourteen, my life has consisted of high school, working at the music store, write songs – if I have the time –, help Uncle Mitch around the house, sleep, repeat. It’s been a chore. But I just about manage.
“Please, don’t touch the guitars without a supervisor, ma’am!” I say loudly from across the shop as I catch her hands rising up to pick up one of the acoustic guitars hanging on the wall for display. I rush over to her, dodging clients testing out guitars and pianos I’ve helped before. While the forty-something woman stares at me with an intense glare, I pick up the Gibson guitar for her and hand it over, offering her my fakest smile. “This one’s a nice one!” I tell her as she handles the guitar very clumsily, nearly dropping it. “What do you know about guitars?” she snarls at me. “Well, for starters, I work here, so I’m supposed to have some knowledge about guitars. Secondly, this is a bass guitar. Never just call a bass a guitar.” The woman rolls her eyes and when she casts her gaze on the strings, I roll mine. I’ve had my share of forty-something old women coming in here to buy something for their spoiled little sons, pretending they know more about guitars of any kind, pianos and drums while I have been brought up listening to Uncle Robert talking non-stop about all of his instruments. He taught me how to play each and every one of the instruments and brought me into the world of rock. If he were still here, I wouldn’t be working in a music store, trying to pay for my own apartment or my college tuition. He believed in me from the second he heard me sing and play piano. He still believes in me, I can feel it. Staying with Uncle Mitch – Uncle Robert’s husband, now widower, has been a lot more healing than it would’ve been if I still lived at my parents’. “I know that,” she grumbles, then looks back up at me. “If you know so much about everything, you little know-it-all, why don’t you tell me something more about this one?” I refrain myself from rolling my eyes again, and instead ball up my fists to put all of my anger there. “This is the Les Paul Junior Tribute DC bass. It’s actually a tribute to the historic Gibson EB-0 bass from the late 50's, but with modern features. The short scale length is actually chosen by many for its strong fundamental tone and sits perfectly in a track when recording. The mahogany double cutaway body and maple neck with rosewood fingerboard balances perfectly when playing either sitting or strapped on. It's equipped with a single expanded range LP BassBucker pickup with single volume and tone controls for simplicity. The volume pot has a push-pull feature to coil tap the pickup scooping the mids for further tone shaping possibilities.” I’ve explained this many a times, so it almost sounds as if I’ve learned it by heart. “Oh! And it comes in four different finishes; Worn Ebony, Worn Cherry, Blue Stain and Worn Brown.” The woman looks at me, clearly impressed at my knowledge of the bass in her hands. I’m pretty sure I could’ve told her anything and she would’ve believed me. “I want to speak to the manager,” she then says and pushes the bass guitar back in my hands as if handling a cardboard box. If my reflexes weren’t what they are now, we would’ve had a broken bass and I would be the one that had to pay for it. “What for?” I ask, my anger slipping through into a vicious snarl. “Just because you learn everything by heart, doesn’t mean you’re a good salesperson.” I open my mouth to say something, but I know I can’t win against a Karen. So, instead, I plaster on my best fake smile and say “Of course, give me a second.” I turn on my heel and make my way back to the cash register to get Ash, my manager who’s been nothing but an absolute gem to me. She wasn’t looking for any employees, but still hired me when she saw how desperate I was and how good I was with the instruments. She even lets me write songs after hours. “Karen alert?” Ash asks when she sees my annoyed face, at the brim of exploding. “Yep, at the bass guitars,” I tell her and take her spot to handle a paying costumer. Ash hops over the counter and makes her way to the Karen at the bass guitars. Only for her to leave the store in an angered rush without any bass guitar for her precious son. “That’s 44 dollars and 97 cents, please,” I tell the guy who’d come in for guitar strings, picks and some polish. He looks about my age. Dark hair gelled back, green almond-shaped eyes and rosy cheeks. He hands me the cash with a cute, nervous smile. “Thank you! And here’s the three cents change,” I hold out my hand for him to take the three cents, but he shakes his head. “Keep it,” he winks at me before grabbing his purchases and leaving the store. Leaving me all flustered and blushing. I hate when cute boys come to the shop and have the audacity to do this stuff to me. UGH. “Got rid of our Karen,” Ash tells me, “You can get back out there. I think the little girl over there at the piano could use some of your expertise.” She points to a fourteen-year-old gliding her fingers along the big wing of the white piano in the middle of our store. “Hi,” I say as I approach her, making her jump slightly. “Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you. I’m Emily. Can I help you?” She scans my face for a moment, as if assessing whether or not I’m trustworthy. I guess she decides she does when she opens her mouth and four simple words flow out of it. “Do you play piano?” I’m a bit taken aback by the question. None of the costumers have ever asked me that question. “Yes, I do, actually,” I reply honestly. “I want to learn how to play the piano, but my mother doesn’t allow me. Says it’s too expensive. The piano, that is. And lessons are expensive too, she says.” She stops talking for a moment as if thinking about what to say next. “Will you teach me?” “Oh,” I manage to bring out, “I—we don’t really offer any piano lessons in the store. We just sell them.” Her eyes water and she visibly swallows a lump in her throat. “Okay…” she whimpers, making my heart break just that bit more. “Will you play me a song though? I love hearing people play.” I take a deep breath as I think about how to turn this girl down. But then I remember my parents turning me and my dreams down. “Sure, I can play you a song. Any requests?” I ask as I sit down on the stool in front of us, patting beside me to invite her too. “Surprise me,” she says, shaking her head with a big smile on her face. I carefully touch the keys as I think of a song to sing. Once I’ve figured that out, I begin to play the right melody and then chime in with the lyrics I’d written with Uncle Robert when he was still alive. The song I cherish the most and wouldn’t share with anyone. But this girl reminds me too much of myself, and I think she might take something from the message. “Here's the one thing I want you to know You got someplace to go Life's a test, yes But you go toe to toe You don't give up, no, you grow.” The girl looks up at me with big Bambi eyes, urging me to continue. “And you use your pain Cause it makes you you Though I wish I could hold you through it I know it's not the same You got living to do And I just want you to do it So get up, get out, relight that spark You know the rest by heart” As I begin the chorus, I hear drums backing me up from somewhere inside the store, and when I look around, I find Ash behind a drum set with a smile on her face as she helps me out a little. “Wake up, wake up, if it's all you do Look out, look inside of you It's not what you lost, it's what you'll gain Raising your voice to the rain Wake up your dream and make it true Look out, look inside of you It's not what you lost Relight that spark Time to come out of the dark Wake up, wake up” By now, Ash and I have gained an audience. Most of the costumers in line don’t even mind having to wait to pay until we’re done with this outburst of ours. “Better wake those demons, just look them in the eye No reason not to try Life can be a mess, I won't let it cloud my mind I'll let my fingers fly” The girl next to me still has the same expression on her face. Eyes pooled with admiration and inspiration. Exactly the reason why I make music and why it’s been a dream of mine to make a career out of it. “And I use the pain 'cause it's part of me And I'm ready to power through it Gonna find the strength, find the melody 'Cause you showed me how to do it Get up, get out, relight that spark You know the rest by heart” I go for the chorus again, and then pop in with the bridge. The one I added to uncle’s song. The costumers in the store stare at Ash and me with smiles on their faces whilst swaying along to the song. “So wake that spirit, spirit I wanna hear it, hear it No need to fear it, you're not alone You're gonna find your way home” I close my eyes as I hit that high note, then stop playing for a second whilst starting the chorus for the last time. Even Ash backs me up with some backing vocals after having heard the chorus a couple of times already. “Wake up, wake up, if it's all you do” The both of us pick up the melody again, putting more power behind the rest of the song. “Look out, look inside of you It's not what you lost, it's what you'll gain Raising your voice to the rain Wake up your dream and make it true Look out, look inside of you When you're feeling lost Relight that spark Time to come out of the dark Wake up, wake up” I hit the last couple of notes on the piano before a roar of applause and cheers fills up the entire store. The fourteen-year-old beside me is clapping the loudest of them all. Her eyes still wide and admiring and full of life. “What’s your name?” I ask the girl, causing her to stop clapping. “Kayla,” she replies. “Listen to me, Kayla. Even if your parents don’t agree with your big dreams, please, never give up on your dream! If this is really what you want to do, go for it. You’ll find a way, I promise you.” A tear rolls down her pink cheek as her bottom lip trembles slightly. “Don’t give up, okay?” She nods her head vigorously. “Thank you, Emily!” she wraps her arms around me into a tight hug before hopping off the stool and rushing out the store. As I watch her run out, my eyes land on a guy. Somewhat my age, I think. I can’t really function for a second as his hazel eyes stare at me and with his mouth curled up on one side. When I finally manage to move again, my eyes scan him entirely. His brown hair sticks out from underneath an orange beanie, his nose fine and cheekbones defined. He’s wearing a flannel shirt over a grey muscle tank and ripped black jeans. I give him an awkward smile before heading back to the cash register. “Can you do register for a moment? I need to check something in stock,” Ash asks me, and I simply nod before helping the next costumer. After the fifth costumer, the boy who’d been staring at me before shows up in front of me. “How can I help?” I ask with my best customer service-smile. “By giving your number,” he replies coyly. I was going to give him the cute boy card until those words came out of his mouth. “Sorry, my number ain’t for sale,” I reply and look behind him, “Next!” “Oh, no, sorry! Uhm, I don’t mean it like that, I—” Before he can mutter another word, I interrupt him. “Are you going to purchase something, bro?” He opens his mouth, then closes it again, looking like a goldfish. “Uhm… No… I just—” I interrupt him again. “Next customer, please,” I stare at him intensely, hoping that’d chase him away. He knocks on the counter before moving away, clearly defeated by the rejection. I can’t believe douchebags like him still exists in this generation. People need to learn manners. “Hi, how can I help you?” I ask the next customer, bringing back my best smile. Just got to move on, just as I moved on from dealing with a Karen again today. Best way to do that, is focus on all the other customers. For the rest of my shift, I have not been able to shake the cute-but-rude guy from before. There’s something about him that haunts me still and I can’t seem to figure out what it is. Not even when I’m focusing on cleaning up the store. As I’m dusting the piano, I hear the bell above the door ring. “Sorry, we’re closed!” I yell without looking up from the piano. “Are you going to play again?” The voice sends shivers down my spine as it takes me right back to that one douchey line it uttered just a mere hour before. “Again, we are closed, sorry.” This time it comes out more like a snarl and with a bit of poison. The boy in front of me chuckles and holds his hands up in defeat. “Listen, I’m sorry about before, but—” he steps closer to me, but I hold up my finger to make him stop, and it seems to help as he simply freezes in place. “But the store is closed. Goodbye now.” I go back to dusting off the piano and wait for the bell to ring again, but it doesn’t. Instead, the sound of guitar strums reaches my ears. “You can’t touch any of the guitars without supervision,” I tell him sternly, but when I meet his eyes and they’re looking at me intently as if urging me to do something. “You’re supervising me, aren’t you?” he asks cockily, still stroking the strings, creating a beautiful melody that fills up my head. “What do you want?” I ask bitterly, looking at him again, and hoping it would make him leave faster. “For you to sing.” “Sing what?” He shrugs, leaving me to wonder what he means by that. “I have a lot of work to do, dude. Please, leave,” I sound pathetic, nearly begging him to leave. I’m only a step away from begging on my knees. The sound of the guitar abruptly stops when I go back to cleaning the piano. “Listen, I just wanted to tell you that what you did earlier today was amazing. You know, not a lot of people have the power you have. Did you see what you did to all those people in here? Imagine doing that for thousands of people! Have you ever thought of that?” I turn to look at him, suddenly having the urge to tell him everything. Then I remember what a douchebag he really is. “I don’t have time for this. Please. Leave!” I shout at him before heading towards the cash register to start counting the money. It’s silent for a while until the bell over the door breaks it. I let out a breath I didn’t even know I was holding. This boy did something to me without me even realizing it. Nope. Can’t trust boys. They don’t do anything but break hearts and be douchebags. But this one somehow seemed different. No other boy has ever left such an impression as he did. And I didn’t even have a proper conversation with him. I just hope I don’t have to see him. Like ever again.
