Drink With Me: A Les Misérables Platonic Gift Exchange 2023

Hello everyone!!

It's been a year and we are back for another round of celebrating platonic affection :)

What is the Drink with Me Platonic Exchange?

It's a fandom event to celebrate the platonic relationships in Les Misérables! In it, each person gives up to three platonic ships, and receives another person's ships to make some kind of content for. Let's get the wine of friendship flowing!

How do I participate?

@p-trichor, @juliensorelisoverparty and @aromantic-enjolras are the mods.

Just send any of us a DM with the following :

Your three prefered platonic ships

Whether you're more aligned with the Brick, musical, or both

Any users/characters/other you want to avoid.

And we'll assign you a person accordingly (and keep that information confidential).

After the inscription process is done, you'll be assigned one person, along with their top three ships, and you can choose which one to make content for. You're not obligated to make content for all of them, we just want you to have wiggle room!

I can't write/draw, can I still participate?

Of course! Fics, fanart, videos, moodboards, gifsets, edits, etc.... All content is welcome!

What is the timeline?

Beginning today, the registrations are open till 10th June 2023. Your user and ships will be assigned within the next couple of days.

All the content must be uploaded on the 9th of August. And remember, it's a surprise, so please keep it secret until then!

i only just got into les mis but the fandom is so intimidating skjdgj qwq any tips

hi!!!! welcome to the fandom!!! Don't be intimidated I promise we're all really nice!!!

I think my top tip would be if you're consuming content by creators in the fandom, interact with it, whether that's through comments on ao3 or reblogging art on tumblr and leaving lots of screaming in the tags or anything else. As a fic writer I remember the names of my regular commenters, and when I see them on my dash my immediate reaction is :D friend! :D And if you're a content creator yourself, post your stuff and tag it! I can't speak for artists and other content creators, but in terms of fics kudos and comments can sometimes be slow to come (especially if you're not writing ExR) but the right people will find it and love it!

Also from personal experience I've found those reblog ask games really effective for making friends, if you reblog and send the person you reblogged from an ask, a lot of the time they'll send one back. Yay, communication!!!

The fandom is sort of split into canon content and modern au/fanon content. Everyone has a preference, and you'll find that group of blogs you enjoy the most soon, but if you are chill, you can enjoy both. This goes without saying, and I hope I'm not being condescending, but if you disagree with an opinion/post/ship/person, you are under no obligation to interact with it. Block the tag and or blog and move on, PLEASE be chill.

You've also joined at a good time, because we're part way through Les Mis Letters! We're a good bit through Volume II by now, but if you've read the book previously orrrr can just Sparknotes Volume I (or be completely unhinged and do a mega catchup over the next few days- let me know if you achieve this and I'll make you a cake), you can totally join and post commentary/meta/jokes anything else! The blog is @lesmisletters , I believe there's also a Discord server

One that note, there's plenty of Discord servers if that's your thing! I can name a couple off the top of my head (Hoes for Enjolras, Lame Mis, Discorinthe) but don't have links, I know there's a post out there somewhere I will try to find it when I have time!

You've also joined at a good time because there's plenty of fandom events coming up soon! It's too late to sign up, but the ExR Big Bang is in a few weeks, Barricade Day aka the biggest Les Mis event of the year is 5th-6th June, Drink with Me aka the platonic Les Mis exchange normally happens in August time (Although I'm not positive if it's happening this year yet), and I believe Logic and Philosophy week aka Enjolras and Combeferre week is in September time? There's probably more that I'm missing out but those are the one I know are happening soon!

Also, you can’t really change people until they get fed up with their own maladaptive behaviors, so, there’s that. Sometimes you really want to help, but if that person isn’t ready, your best bet is damage control (and holding space, of course).

Hi, I'm the person with the edition of W&P that doesn't have the epilog. (aka, I'm aromantic-enjolras' main). I just wanted to say that I'm comparing version with @juliensorelisoverparty and you might like to know that in my version also Andrei and Petya are happily alive by the end of the novel. ^^

Whooo! (Sorry for the friendship fic you've probably forgot about already: I'm STILL working on it, I swear!)

6. Every single town/city they've lived in Oh. The list will be l o n g, given his flaneur tendencies. But given the limited travel options in the 19th century, he'd start with a long, meandering journey from Gascony to Paris, stopping briefly in Meung-sur-Loire (like you-know-who :D), and then getting sidetracked enough to somehow knock 3-4 years off the 11 years he was supposed to spend procrastinating in law school by just wandering, by omnibus, by horse, by foot, by knee (let's not talk about that one time) etc. from the bigger cities like Chartres, the wrong direction to Angers or such, staying anywhere from hours to months in each, then eventually back south to Gascony exactly where he came from, only he took a year or so exploring his home province while vigilantly hiding from his family (who probably knows what he's up to already, and is egging him on through inaction) - with buddies, with guides, alone... until he winds back up in Paris, where he stayed, still flaneur-ing. Perhaps he left the country at some point - maybe to Brazil, Salvador with Combeferre, and then... oh dear, I have reached the limit of my geographical knowledge. Luckily, he's probably as clueless as I am.

16. Strange obsession Had me thinking a while! Let's start with modern this time. Despite popular opinion, he does get homesick. At some point he kept a pear tree on his balcony and tended it with his naturally green fingers, to remind himself of his family, and the good ol' times running wild in the orchards. Nothing too crazy happens to it, apart from the fact that Grantaire routinely supplied him with roast partridge to hang on its branches during Christmas. Until he discovered these. (Under the cut!)

Which are like, silicon molds for fruit. And then it spun out of control. He began growing these:

by the dozens and NOTHING would stop him and he named them all after his family. And when he ran out of family members he named them after the amis and then all the friends and contacts he kept around. Even Prouvaire thinks it got out of hand once he started to knit them tiny sweaters and make tiny wigs in the likenesses of their namesakes ("My hair does NOT look like that!").

But if you want a less cracky obsession, he has perfect pitch and DESPISES the note E8. Luckily, it's off the piano. But he will scream too, if you so much as scream in E8. (Surprisingly, F8 is fine.)
