Smelling like a princess today with Juliette Has a Gun Midnight Oud. Rose-out by way of rose-patchouli but with spiciness from saffron, and a bit of leathery birch tar. Starts off so strong, almost cough-inducing, but settles to a silk skin. Mixing it up with another spill, this time of some of my favorite #beauty products! @dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream is my go-to moisturizer. It keeps my skin hydrated without looking greasy. It smells lovely. This #chanel #nailpolish in Radiant Red is my all time favorite toe color, winter/summer, doesn’t matter. You can’t go wrong with red in my opinion! @juliettehasagun NOT A Perfume is hands down my favorite #perfume. Such a clean scent, I discovered it via an @ipsy #glambag sample over a year ago and have been obsessed ever since. Finally, I work in healthcare and am constantly washing my hands. Needless to say, they are incredibly dry. My go-to hand moisturizer is the amazing La Creme Main by @chanel.beauty aka the #chanelegg. 💋 ps. Chekhov was right, and Ricci and Kurkdjian would have done well to remember this with Mad Madame and Midnight Oud. Juliette may be armed, but we're not sure why and she certainly doesn't seem  dangerous.

When I read the brand story for Juliette has a Gun, I had in mind fragrances capturing the edgy spirit of the Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio Romeo and Juliet (yes I'm dating myself). Or something in the line of Kill Bill or Gunpowder Milkshake. Instead I find these two fragrances to be the opposite--delicate, well-blended and expressing a sweet vulnerability. In Mad Madame, we have a luminous tuberose that is far more Antoinette in Wide Sargasso Sea than Bertha Mason. And there is very little bewitching in Midnight Oud. On my skin it is an intense, almost cloying tea rose.

At best, I get playfulness with both fragrances, but nothing more interesting. Are these a failure? No, but they are not particularly interesting, especially for the perfume lover with a large collection. I think I would like it a bit more if brands put as much thought into making the juice as avant garde as their marketing. Not bad, but there is certainly better out there and many at a lower price point

These all snuck into my purse this week and ended up being my end-of-day refresh perfumes. All rose-chypre type scent. Tbh, I’ve been spraying Café Rose on repeat at the end of the day. Sprayed lightly this is a skin scent, and 5 or 6 sprays really bring out the sweet intensity of the rose, although it stays quite earthy. For all the complaining that people do about longevity, I never hear people complain about Tom Ford although this one has pretty basic sillage and lasting power. Midnight Oud by @juliettehasagun is absolutely the strongest in my collection. One spray fills the room and it’s so intense. I wouldn’t wear this to dinner. It’s a bit much and kind of clashes with food smells. Do you refresh your perfume at the end of your day?
