Everyone keeps saying Anthony Lockwood is an ENFJ not an ENTJ because he is empathetic, emotionally supportive, sweet, constantly caring... But HEAR ME OUT, Anthony Lockwood is DEFINITELY an ENTJ!!!📣
Generally, ENTJ is described as "Decisive, Strategic, Organized, Energetic, Articulate", which is the perfect description for Anthony Lockwood.
To be more specific, we can look into the 2 functions that separate an ENTJ and an ENFJ:
📍1. Te as primary function:
📍Lockwood makes it quite clear that he cares about efficiency the most. That's why he left for the case before George finishes his research and is complained repeatedly by George because of how he does everything so fast, without enough preparation.
📍Lockwood is relentless, achievement-oriented, action-oriented, and is described as the exact opposite to George, an INTP (we all know that ENTJ and INTP have the exact opposite functions).
ENTJ: Te, Ni, Se, Fi
INTP: Ti, Ne, Si, Fe
"In many ways, Lockwood was the complete opposite of George,... He had no interest in the mechanics of ghosts, and little in their individual desires or intentions. All he really wanted was to destroy them as efficiently as possible." (from book 2)
Lockwood doesn't care about exploring and figuring out how things work, what causes the Problem,... He just wants to focus on the next goal, get work done in the most efficient way, wants to achieve, to make Lockwood & Co. become the best agency and so on. He is impatient with what he perceives as inefficient, which is spending a lot of time on preparing and researching like George always does. His Te primary function is obvious when compared with George's Ti primary function.
📍However, this doesn't mean he doesn't care about others' well being and feelings. You all need to stop saying Lockwood is an ENFJ because he has golden retriever energy, he is sweet and caring, etc... WHY CAN'T AN ENTJ BE EMPATHETIC, ENCOURAGING AND SWEET? An ENTJ is so much more than those harsh, controlling freak ENTJ stereotypes. Have you seen Gordon Ramsay, an ENTJ, spending time with kids and his own daughters? He's also really sweet, supportive and encouraging when the kids make mistake and stressed out.
Having said that, it doesn't mean Lockwood isn't being a jerk sometimes. Because of his Te primary function, he ignores Lucy's words to leave her out of public attention and go on to talk about to talent in order to promote his agency. Lockwood also left for the case without waiting for George and his research, leading to their enormous debt, just because of the same reason: his Te primary function.
📍2. Fi as inferior function
📍"Fi is ENTJ's last function. Fi helps them to assess situations to see how things match up to their values and beliefs. They may think of their Fi as their “gut instinct”. It helps them learn to be sensitive to the values and feelings of those around them. It can act as a warning system when they think a decision makes sense logically, but somewhere inside, Fi is the alarm saying it’s a bad idea. However, because Fi is the TeNi’s weakest function, they will often act with the swift decisiveness of Te first, before considering how their actions might affect the feelings of others or taking time to think about whether their decision lines up with their values."
Lockwood risks his life a lot just to build his agency's reputation. He loves dangerous cases as they make the agency famous, and also makes a lot of money to keep the agency working. Though this may sound like the fastest and most efficient way to achieve his goal, it is a bad idea. But since Fi is his weakness, Lockwood couldn't hear that inner voice and just do it anyway.
In the books, when Lockwood is stressed and in a weaker mental state, his Fi inferior function comes out. Then he will start to think about all of this, wonder why he does what he does, and if it aligns with his personal values...
📍We can also compare with ENFJs. ENFJ has Fe as their primary function, which means they rub off with others' emotions, they love to connect with people and they focus heavily on relationships.Lockwood, an ENTJ, on the other hand, is a bit reserved, he keeps personal feelings close to his chest and he DOESN'T connect with other people at all (at first, it takes quite a long time for him to actually open up, and before that, he just stays distant.)
Relationships is actually his WEAKNESS, since Te is his primary function and Fi is his inferior function. Lockwood prioritizes efficiency and task completion over personal relationships and emotional well-being (in both himself and others, but mostly himself), which is a very ENTJ thing to do. He risks his life for dangerous cases because those make the agency more famous, he avoids Lucy's personal questions and refuses to develop his relationships with George and Lucy any furrther at first. Then he grows and learns to open up, becoming a better ENTJ.
📣 Besides, he leads the team well mainly because of his charm, his determination, his recklessness and also his logical thinking, rather than his empathy and compassion, like an ENFJ does. 📣
📍I think his craving for public attention is an Te primary function.
📍The craving for public attention is rather a craving for achievements, because he wants his agency to grow and become famous.

The Function Names are Misnomers
This ties in directly with my last post where I discussed why the functions aren’t cognitive functions, but psychic functions. Here, I’d like to add on a small, but notable curiosity to that in order to not only drive the point home even further, but to also call attention to a certain problem in the way we talk about the functions and to suggest a solution to it. The names of each of the…

IN(F) — Introverted Intuition supported by Feeling
Continues to work instead of seeking treatment for failing health. Sometimes has phobias. Likes to go out, to dance, knows how to tell a stor. Experiences hypochondriac neuroses, claustrophobia. Before an important event experiences strong emotions, may lose appetite. he Is blind to his own hunger. He ponders what is the point of something, the meaning, symbolical nature. "What will this do for me?", he worries about what he can do to affect others, what are people thinking about, how society, the collective, perceives him, how his friends feel about him. He often smiles, has a cheerful nature, but it is usually fake, not so sincere. Neurotic, obsessive pedantic and egoist yet soft, friendly and welcoming. Expressive, he likes to maintain a comfortable emotional ambient, he focuses on making human relationships and Keeping everyone united. A hopeless romantic, prone to stalking crushes and compulsive overthinking They fall in love, they aren't loving, they are within limerence. "Teen love" - this is a good name for it. He idealizes everything, he doesn't has clear opinions, his beliefs are dictated by the collective: he either believes or gets skeptical about love, because he usually understands love only in a specific sense - the standard sense. When he thinks about emotions, he thinks about pop. mainstream. generalized emotions. Humanity for a long time idealized and represented love as romantic or erotic; so this type suffers from this: he easily believes in doing anything in the name of love, he would do anything for his loved ones, if he ever falls in love with someone, of course. Avoids showing his true feelings, he could be crying in one moment, and then in the other, he enters in a group, a collective, and he adapts to it, he stops crying and starts smiling, "acting". Very inclined to escapism, hallucinations, delusions and religion, ideology, existentialism and politics. He often relies on external sources, academics, he doesn't know how to explain things, so he needs to talk about his sources, he shows what people think, out of fear of being wrong. Anxious about being humiliated, he has a weak selt-esteem. The romantic dreamer likes to lay on a sofa with a book, or go to the countryside to spend time amidst nature. Many manifestations are inclined to cosplay, they like to live alternatives - finds ways to avoid boredom, uses old things and people in a new way and bringing the positive future into the present and past, staying light and hopeful in spite of anxieties. Struggles with videogames and orders: he is verv trial-and-error. He mav be cold. withdrawn. asocial. timid and extremely introverted; a gloomy figure with low confidence.
He hides his insecurities. runs into situations of trust and marriage. Intense connections. Fantasizes about people, delusional imagination of being accepted, praised. They find difficulty to express what they want, often times they do not realize what they wish in life; they ask people "how do you create interest?" because they lack actual desires and passions. Individualistic in some manner. Creates music, laments his own existence, prone to atheism, agnosticism. Diligent but unfocused, non-disciplined, often loses concentration, but he is always doing something - it could even be living in his dreams. He compares himself with other people, tends to be jealous, envious, yandere. Inclination towards mysticism and superstition, beliefs in prophetic dreams and omens. He is a person who is emotionally labile and uninhibited, does not control his own emotions, some manifestations of the type make fun of people and are sarcastic. Some versions, instead of comforting people with the warmth of his soul, begins to manipulate other people and act capricious and touchy. "Everything is wrong" and "things didn't turn out to be as desired". Many times expresses a desire to be hugged, to be protected and helped, he is weak and thinks of himself as someone "not prepared", he worries and worries. Some people of this type spend their time alone, don't have many friends (may not even have friends. He likes to dive himself in meditation. It is important to understand everything. Therefore, if you ask him about the difficult things sometimes, you can hear the answer that he understands them (only a very peculiar). It is important that everyone knew him as well. If understanding is impossible, that human self-esteem drops, so it does not like to admit that something is not understood. It is important to praise the consistency, likes to boast that he was up to something thought of himself. Often he loves to refer to some everyday stories, because nobody will not even think to check their authenticity, in general likes to refer to someone as a way to protect their reasoning. He is a person prone more to reflection than action. "If I understand correctly, then I am a good person". The fear of turning out to be incompetent greatly narrows down the areas in which the person dares to demonstrate or apply their knowledge. This type wants to solve his problems by collecting objective data. It is necessary to consult the experts, to obtain the data and results of studies, to receive objectively reliable new information. "Any unpleasant sensation or experience it's best to endure and wait over, than to seek how to improve one's state or move to another place that offers better conditions."

Grantian “Functions” vs Hekatior Deep Processing: Clearing Up the Confusion
There’s a lot of misunderstanding in the typology community about what Grantian “functions” really are and how they compare to Hekatior’s deep processing layers. This post aims to clarify those differences, highlight key historical context and explain why Hekatior represents a genuine evolution beyond Grantian “function” clusters.
What Are Grantian “Functions”?
Grantian “functions” are essentially clusters of traits corresponding roughly to MBTI temperament dichotomies — for example Grantian "Ne" = NP traits. The Grantian system was initially popularized online by theorists like Linda Berens and John Beebe, but its origins trace back to an old religious book (a fact often overlooked) written by Harold Grant.
Grantian “Functions” in Relation to Hekatior Processing Layers
For this analysis I’m considering patterns of Grantian “functions” as they appear in the top two of Grantian types such as Grantian "NeTi" (= NP traits + TP traits):
Grantian "Ne" = NP traits. Tend to be an intuitive lead in Hekatior — meaning the psychological function of intuition operates fully without restrictions. This accounts for the divergence and idea generation often associated with Grantian "Ne" = NP traits.
Grantian "Ni" = NJ traits. Tend to have intuition auxiliary in Hekatior — meaning intuition supports the demands of a main rational frame (thinking or feeling). This explains the planning and convergence themes often associated with Grantian "Ni" = NJ traits.
Grantian "Se" = SP traits. Tend to be a sensation lead in Hekatior.
Grantian "Si" = SJ traits. Tend to have sensation auxiliary in Hekatior. Interestingly enough a differentiation pattern of equjective rational lead with sensation auxiliary is quite common in Enneagram Type 6, explaining the SJ stereotypes of Type 6 in the typology community.
Grantian "Te" = TJ traits. Tend to be thinking lead in Hekatior.
Grantian "Ti" = TP traits. Tend to have thinking auxiliary in Hekatior.
Grantian "Fe" = FJ traits. Tend to be feeling lead in Hekatior.
Grantian "Fi" = FP traits. Tend to have feeling auxiliary in Hekatior.
Why Does This Matter?
Grantian “functions” are not Jungian functions in the full dynamic sense. They are static clusters that often miss the deep interplay and fluidity of psychological processing.
Hekatior: Trialectified Expansion to Jung for the Modern Psyche
Hekatior offers a trialectical layered understanding of psychological processing. It reveals how preferred action responses, preferential orientation and the four psychological functions — intuition, thinking, sensation and feeling — interact dynamically in ways Grantian “function” clusters just cannot capture.
This difference is crucial for anyone serious about typology and personality theory—conflating these systems leads to misunderstanding and misapplication.
Isabel Myers Briggs herself was an INFJ in denial who self-typed as "INFP", while still resonating with being a feeling lead in Jung’s original work. She had to change definitions and psyche libido dynamics to justify her “INFP” self-type narrative, essentially screwing up all the introverts in her lipstick service to Jung.
For example official MBTI® INFJs (correctly typed by dichotomies) tend to be more of IF(N) in Classic Jungian type grouping, whereas Myers labeled INFJs "Ni" dominant. Conversely official MBTI® INFPs (correctly typed by dichotomies) tend to be more of Classic Jungian IN(F) type grouping while Myers labeled them "Fi" dominant.
Harold Grant built his misleading EIEI/IEIE model on such misunderstanding by Myers Briggs—switching the third letter from Myers’ EIII/IEEE stacks—probably because he thought the Myers stack was too unbalanced. But Jung’s ideas represent a fluid developmental model rather than fixed stacks. If anything, Jung's concepts align more closely with what we now call Nucleus Stacks (EEII/IIEE) as the natural default leanings — where the top and bottom halves of the psyche dynamically influence each other for balance. Jung never imposed rigid stacks; the Nucleus Stack EEII/IIEE pattern best reflects the organic interplay he described.
At the end of the day MBTI® pays lip service to Jung but is in practice a sum-of-parts labeling exercise. For example, official MBTI® ENTP encompasses all things E, N, T, P and respective combinations (EN, ET, EP, NT, NP, TP, ENT, ENP, ETP, NTP, and ENTP) have in common. Personality Café’s Reckful was spot-on about that.
Historical Context and Criticism
Reynierse, in his analysis The Case Against Type Dynamics, dismantled the Type Dynamics theory - highlighting the lack of empirical support for Grant’s hypothesis. Nonetheless the Grantian model became popularized online by figures like Berens and Beebe, spreading like a wildfire.
It’s your prerogative to use the Grantian model if you wish, but don’t mix systems or you’ll pretty much mistype everyone.
Hekatior expands the true depth and complexity of Jung’s insights, avoiding reductionist categorizations.
Conclusions
If you want to deepen your understanding of typology beyond surface-level Grantian "function" labels, exploring Hekatior’s deep processing layers is the next step. It respects Jung’s original vision while expanding it with a trialectical framework — something Grantian “function” clusters can’t offer.

Typology Ask Game
Making this for fun! Pretty much a get to know [blank] game but specifically for typology! Feel free to use for yourself or charas, but this is mainly oriented as a get to know the blog owner type deal :P
What's ur/ur charas typology (feel free to specify which typology u meant, or if u'd prefer don't and have the person list their whole thing LoL)
How did u figure out your/ur charas typology (again, feel free to specify!)
Favorite typology system (eg jungian, mbti, socionics, enneagram, etc etc etc)
Easiest system for you to type yourself in
Easiest system for you to type others in
What do u think is the best way to type yourself (eg self identification, tests, questionarres etcx3)
do u think any fictional character shares ur typology (feel free to usd PDB to find this out LoL or u could headcanon a chara with similar typology)
How long have u been into typology?
Do u have a typology headcanon for X ? (This is open ended, so answer however u want, eg u can answer how the charafter feels about typology, what u think the charas typology is, etcx4)
Any niche topologies u wanna introduce to people
How u started getting into typology
Worst consensus u've seen on pdb (if u use it)
Wosrt mischaracterization of a type/function you've seen
Rate the cognitive functions on how well u use each of em
Rate the enneagram types by how much u use each of em (feel free to use subtypesas well but thay might overcomplicate it LoL)
Biggest red flag types (for fun not for serious LoL)
Would u/ur chara be considered a "stereotypical" depiction of your type
I can't think of any more, feel free to reblog to add ur own questions :3 tried not to add anything "controversial" and I'd prefer not to add questions like that here as well (this includes questions like "do u believe in contradictions" or other stuff that's heavily

The Power of Active Imagination
As a Yoga therapist, I’ve always been fascinated by the transformative power of active imagination in the therapeutic process. This method, developed by Carl Jung, serves as a bridge between the conscious and unconscious mind, facilitating a dialogue around an image, theme, or cluster of ideas to gain deeper insights from the unconscious, this can also be applied in yoga therapy by using somatic…

ok. let's finally talk about this thing i've been wanting to go public with for ages
so i am not a fan of needing THC to help me curb the embarrassment i have in being happy talking about my real realll special interests, because perceived rejection of my interests feels like rejection of myself since i put so much of myself (my time) into them. i anticipate rejection from others because the stuff i find myself occupied with is detached, abstract, highly technical, or niche, and i'm aware of the surrounding cultural assumptions. some of them, and the level at which i am in involved in understanding them, are really specialized or esoteric, so even opening up about them is like "fuuuck im gonna be made fun of or it’s gonna be too technical that they zone out and dont understand why this is so meaningful to me" ive even posted about that feeling before.
see if i start accumulating too much self-context made in my own mind without sharing it i start to feel more and more isolated from other people around me, that they’re not seeing the full extent of what im seeing myself. i don’t share it, because i fear rejection or superficial judgments in other people’s eyes (probably because it’s happened to me and i’ve seen it happen to others). but at the same time it has to be shared with more people around me or else i feel like i have an intestinal blockage in my mind. what happens is my mental colon explodes from all the shit accumulated over time and vou get a post like this. i’m sorry for that mental image btw. anyway back the point of this post
anything where i can systematize archetypes in real, everyday situations has always been my strong suit. so when people ask me my hobbies im like ... uhhh what am i supposed to say? i analyze stuff about the world and rotate it in my mind. when carl jung wrote there are “as many archetypes as there are typical situations in life” i know exactly what he was talking about.
i’ve been toeing the line to really talk about this thing for two years, so let me tell you about socionics. if you already know what im talking about i love you. if you don’t (or even if you do, keep reading there’s probably stuff you don’t know in here), it is part abstract cybernetic model, part jungian concepts, part philosophy of information exchange. it classifies how people communicate and exchange information. it was created in eastern europe in the late 70s, developed primarily in the 80s-90s by other authors and it’s been an endlessly fascinating, elegant, and reliable tool for me.
usually people dismiss personality typology systems because the mbti became so watered down and pop-culturally saturated that people seemed to collectively take a stance of not taking anyone that genuinely cares about it seriously, or at least that’s the impression i got.
(btw — i need to go on this brief rant — i will never forgive 16personalities for being the big five rebranded and people thinking it's mbti. 16personalities gives you your big five type. they explicitly state on their website that they don’t borrow any concepts from jung. -A and -T don’t exist in the mbti and correspond directly to low and high neuroticism respectively. i figured out myself they mapped each letter dichotomy to the other four measures on the big five: extraversion (I/E), conscientiousness (P/J), agreeableness (T/F), openness to experience (S/N). which is stupid and it’s false advertising. take 16p and a big five test see for yourself how they match up. your personal mbti type can be different from its correlated big five type. the actual mbti using jungian concepts as a base is alright though. oh, and the best neo-jungian mbti stuff is by far michael pierce’d takes on it. if you actually fw that heres a carrd i created a few years ago about the cognitive function axes.)
but i always end up going to the bottom of the iceberg in anything i get really into, and i basically integrate it into my own understanding of the world around me for a while. maybe it was because i had a bad experience genuinely talking about it a few years ago from some people who made superficial judgments about it that made me sort of quiet about my interest in typology systems. i assume it’s because myers and briggs used the tool towards racist ends; it acquired negative connotations, bullshit intuition supremacy, and left the study of psychological types tainted in the united states. even if the individual’s study of the system is neutral, unbiased, out of pure curiosity as a way to classify and relate different personality structures to each other, as was the case with me. in addition to 16personalities being an invalid “mbti” test that bought their way to the front page of google, and rampant superficial information at all levels of study, finding anyone who was into it like me was basically impossible. the reason i have a preferred interpretation of jungian + mbti concepts is because i’ve tried different ones on and sensed how well they conform to reality as a way of describing phenomenon, ditching old ones that werent as clear. michael pierce’s i’ve found are the closest to what i sense jung's intentions were. (actually quite likely this is something i would attribute to being because all three of us are types LIl (and also all infj too, how about that?) brain-to-brain communication LII (carl jung) to LII (michael pierce) to LII (me)). so i felt like michael pierce kept the things that worked in real life and ditched the things that didn’t, leaving behind his elegant integration of the concepts.
anyway, i was under the assumption that anything that could be mistaken for it—which socionics often is at a glance—would be dismissed out of hand, even though it’s entirely different. plus, there’s all the context i’d need to clarify about how “it’s different from the “fun” unserious pop-psych mbti and also absurdly more technical” and what's the point in doing that if they don't respect you enough to hear you out anyway? so it just made me closed off.
they share a common ancestor though. the concepts are still based on carl jung’s book ‘psychological types’ which is why there is some shallow overlap, but the scope, structure, and application of it is different. i feel like this system is a lot more “living” and relevant to real interactions and communication between people in our everyday lives. i am always seeing specific examples of these concepts in play in real life and in characters depicted in media. it’s also been more empirically studied and successfully implemented over in eastern europe, and has gone under constant development and contribution. while since the 50s, mbti had crystalized and become stagnant with diverging interpretations to the point where it’s become basically meaningless to try to talk about because nobody can agree on concepts or semantics; there are virtually no distinctions between “schools” or “models” to differentiate interpretations — (although i have my preference for what i think are the most meaningful and reasonable one; as i said, that goes to michael pierce.) eastern (not so much western) socionics is incredibly more well put-together than mbti or kiersey for squeezing the potential from jung’s original ideas, and goes much deeper. that said, i will ALWAYS advise self-studying typlogy concepts over taking a test. the algorithm of a test can never possibly know you and your individual biases in interpreting the meaning of the words better than the knowledge you just have about yourself. if you learn the theory underlying it you will actually learn about yourself and others and it will actually mean something to you instead of a being an empty decoration for your profile.
here is a comparison chart i translated into english so you can get some idea of where these systems actually differ.

Букалов, А. (2019). On the advantages of socionics over other post-Jungian typologies. Socionics, Mentology and Personality Psychology, (6), 5–7. Retrieved from https://publishing.socionic.info/index.php/socionics/article/view/2603
for me it’s been super insightful applied to real life. it is like a toolkit for interpreting why some people just rub me the wrong way and our communication feels disjointed. or why some people pass my vibe check to enter my personal inner circle and i feel like talking with them is easier and not an uphill battle. who i feel drawn to and want to get to know better. to deconstruct why i and other people interpret information in the world the way they do, and how that explains the kind of people i end up curating in my life. it has put into words the concepts i haven’t been able to find the words for beforehand, and thus enables me to retrospectively pinpoint exactly what unconsciously makes people feel more at ease or why communication is just easier with some and why it’s harder with others, regardless of any other factors. there are other factors of course, that are the result of unique circumstances—nurture, culture, and upbringing—and i of course account for those, it’s not as pertinent to me as the framework that provides the skeletal structure regardless of those individual variations that are simply already a given for me. that was actually the whole point of its creation.
the system gives me a common language to communicate these ideas with, at least to the few people i talk to who have learned it, but i can adapt the concepts in how they relate to specific circumstances and convey it to a lay audience. i’ve been doing just that to explain why, of the people who have been made aware of the hs rarepair john-aradia, i have seen no one object to it, and instead, everyone i saw found it intriguing the more they thought about it, even when they initally thought was “so random”. and i realized, “hey wait! i know how to explain that!”, but that's in another post i've been working on.
[i was actually originally writing this post in the middle of said aradia and john analysis but i felt like there was way too much i wanted to talk about as its own thing. i figured people are going to be reading that post for john-aradia explanation, not public updates about my mind. i just didn’t want to rewrite this to account for the context because the point i made was still relevant]:
but now i’m thinking okay… i’m talking to a bunch of homestucks. why am i prostrating myself here? why am i so defensive? they’re probably creaming their pants at the idea of another symmetrically divisible system of classification to get their hands on. homestuck itself is founded upon a bunch of ideas with symmetrical divisions and classifications (divisible products of 2). aspect dichotomies, quadrants, cards, black-white, yin/yang and literally countless other abstract systems. if there is a common word to refer to these sorts of things, please let me know.
but in socionics terms, all of this sort of stuff i’m refering to would be within the domain of extraverted/black intuition (Ne) information, and classifying or positioning someone within those frameworks would be introverted/white logic (Ti). you can read more about these “elements” here. homestuck has familiarized you with notionally irreducible aspects present in everything, dual yin/yang forces permeating everything, so if you understand all of the sorts of abstract classification systems in homestuck you’re basically already 75% the way to fundamentally grasping model A socionics. it is way more structured and stable than the typologies in homestuck though. but you will perceive there to be similarities in the need for archetypal/thematic sense skills.
if you want to learn socionics, for the love of god start here. there are many weak places out there to start out with that will set you up with a faulty and loose understanding, but school of classic socionics is the best foundation to start with. i saw it emerge from the beginning when it was founded, having been part of it since late 2022.
this is an introduction to SCS, what makes it special, and and how differs from other socionics schools. i find SCS to be the most comprehensive, and i’m active within a side discord to discuss theoretical constructs related to model A. i’ve helped find the links between some concepts in model A that weren’t fully substantiated in augusta’s original works, specifically the importance of the asking/declaring reinin dichotomy, how it fits with regard to the rest of model A’s structure, how it underpins the ring of social benefit (which was missing from her writing), and how it can be used as an information element charge just like positivist/negativist can (i.e. all process types have positive asking Ne (+Ne? and all result types have negative declaring Ne (-Ne!). i’m still working on transfering my essay on that to a document.)
i know the intricacies of this system like the back of my hand but yeah i never post much about it because it’s so niche and i dont know who would even want to hear it besides people who i already know would, like in that small specialist group, but they actually been quiet lately even though i’m still active in there sharing things i realized. and i even feel alienated in most casual socionics discussion groups, especially larger ones. i need people who can match my freak about it.
because i have nowhere else to talk about it i’m starting to feel guilty yapping my friends’ ears off about it when i deconstruct everything i come across in light of this system like i’m being annoying about it. but at the same time when im doing that i am constantly reinforcing the merit of the system in successfully finding some dynamic i see in the drama of real life in connection to some idea from the model. i can immediately lock on to the core principles that are at play in any situation, validating the patterns that have been observed by others. by what measure do these people / characters / groups relate to each other, how do we define the specific “feeling” of the energy between them together? i could do a socionical analysis for anything that captures my interest.
it’s also been incredible for self-insight. i can now accurately explain my thought process.
i can change my perspective of the scope of my thinking on different levels. depending on the urgency of a situation developing around me and my respect for other people’s time, i can expand my reasoning from splitting hairs at the smallest pedantic specifics—although i prefer not to, to the most holistic global hard binary 0/1 (no/yes) judgment.
it’s fractal-like; once i know how to classify and compare the features of something to another, everything else with overlapping logical relationships instantly rises up in the same way, which of course is what leads to me having insights that reinforce the potential inherent in the things around me, because my way of thinking is isomorphic. i also experience strong animated mental imagery accompanying my conscious thoughts about these systems, minimalist shapes or lines of the barebones motion happening. i feel like my mental activity and what i actually write down is trying to capture what im seeing in my head.
Tumblr media
i prefer to be brief, but that requires sharing contexts with someone. once i've established similar ways of talking about the same thing with someone so that we’re on the same page, our messages basically become exchanging code words with each other. all of the potential densely packed into these efficient little terms.
the effect is that i am reducing the amount of time and energy i have to spend trying to explain things to someone. i just want to communicate easily and be understood by the people i talk to so that i can enjoy my time with them. this is why i felt like such a long, clarifying, in-depth post was necessary, which would rip the bandaid off and pull it all up at once, instead of on a private, individual-to-individual level. i had to have it engraved somewhere i could just point someone to instead of repeatedly having to explain the same thing over and over cause that’s a waste of time and energy.
in fact, that revelation i had about myself just now can be explained by model A too! my own type is LIl and this type’s id block houses the information elements +Te! → +Ni?, which aushra describes as “The quality of deeds and actions and the efficient expenditure of energy in work—only performing for what is truly necessary—leads to peace of mind in the future.”
or, for example, coming at it from another angle, here is an older post i made before i was even aware of socionics. i was already talking about my experiences, patterns of thinking and self-awareness in a way that was so on the nose for a socionics analysis.
is that not the clearest example of phase 2’s sensitivity (for me it is information about sensorics)? -Fi? → -Se! superego block, anyone? and did you see how much i gave attention to the time i spend working; +Te! -> +Ni? id block? [information element descriptions here]. you could also derive the progression of the information metabolism stages in my own psyche (phase 1: Ethics -> phase 2: Sensorics -> phase 3: Logic -> phase 4: Intuition).
Tumblr media
(from The Characteristic of SLI)
so through socionics it’s like i can find an explanation for just about everything i observe in others and myself just because i’ve extrapolated the logical relationships from that system and can isomorphically apply them to anything.
and i don't say that lightly! i'm not saying anything in this post lightly. like i have a degree in biopsychology from an honors college (ncf; yes, the liberal arts college desantis got his soulless hands on because it was “too woke"). having taken courses in statistics, research methods in psychology, and others, i know all about proper research design (and designing them myself). and of course i ended my four years there with my undergrad thesis, examining temporoparietal synchrony in autistic individuals when working alone and together, where for months on end i was doing nothing but reading and interpreting the validity of research papers. i even deconstructed poorly designed psychological constructs commonly used in autistic research in mine.
i also took personality psychology as a course during my time there. i got a birds eye view of most of the popular paradigms and still felt like i was more knowledgeable in the discourse behind some of the topics we glossed over since the course material was more of a broad comprehensive thing than an in-depth one for anything specific. in totality, all of the models i read about in relation to each other seemed so fragmented into different cuts and perspectives in trying to understand and find the patterns in people’s mental life. and yet none of the models i read about hold as as great of an everyday explanatory power as socionics does for explaining ways of thinking, people's proneness to certain tendencies, and the energetic tension that happens between certain people.
people can say otherwise that it’s pseudoscience. even though there are numerous studies built on real-world observations, the large-scale statistical data like from victor talanov. there's school of system socionics who emphasize its practice. it would be impossible to add all the evidence i can to support my claims to this post but you can see for youself - there are still countless new articles being published from different authors. regardless of that, even if it isn't accepted within the rigors of “scientific canon” i really dont give a fuck since it absolutely does indeed have explanatory and predictive power, and that’s all i care about. i’m confident in this not only through firsthand experience, the ability to frame what i know to be true about the real world within it and have it successfully describe those things, as well as talking to other people about my observations.
additionally, i see people make conclusions about interpersonal dynamics where they unknowingly repeat information that can be derived from socionics concepts.
something i noticed a LOT and ive repeatedly thought about and come to the same conclusion multiple times is that i think i naturally might "embody" the most optimal ways of interacting with other people for myself. it gives me insight into the nature of the personal relationships that i already procure in my life, but it’s not really a self-fulfilling prophecy because i dont use socionics to prescribe who i "should" be friends with. that's silly. thats a silly thing to do because people do have idiosyncracies that don't perfectly align with a system if you rigidly adhere to it, so you're bound to be set up for failure if you try to force that and you will be disappointed. it's better to let these feelings happen naturally without pretense, because that's where the observations that fuel my insight comes from.
i have a subconscious sense for who i will be able to get along with in the long term almost instantly without the need for any kind of system, just based on their actual mannerisms and “vibes”, but that alone is not good enough for me, i want to know why. socionics just gives me tools to figure out why so that i know what im dealing with and its not just ineffable energies, but i can put a name to those energies to think and talk about it and compare and discover patterns in what ive curated in my inner circle over my life, what i feel drawn towards. and indeed i do find plentiful amounts of recurring patterns. the simplification and abstraction is not to destroy the soul and expression of individuals but to wrap my head around them and understand them deeper in relation to everything else, including myself.
i am aware it can be confusing for many people which turns them away. but if theres any questions you have or youre confused about any concepts i can answer them
but yeah um, i’ve really only scratched the surface of this cognitive cybernetic tool. if you are genuinely interested in what i have to say and want me to talk more about it please openly tell me since i’m not a mind reader! i assume disinterest by default.
anyway if you got to this point thanks for reading. i wanted to just put it out there for context about any posts i make in the future. just stating my honest thoughts and whats been occupying my mind for the past two years.
be on the lookout for the john and aradia analysis soon where i’ll use it in practice to deconstruct some things about those characters. and if you’re coming to this post from that analysis after ive posted it, i’m sorry this post is so long in the middle of an already long-ish post. i just thought the context was important.

The Functions Aren't Cognitive
What is a “cognitive function”? No, seriously. What even are they? Wikipedia defines a cognitive function (the article says “cognitive skill” instead, but a footnote reveals it as a synonym,) as a “. . . [skill] of the mind, as opposed to other types of skills such as motor skills or social skills.” Psychology Today defines them as, quote, “. . . skills involving learning and problem-solving.”,…

Reason:
“i had a hyperfixation on freudian psychosexuality and one on jungian mbti/cognitive functions so when i learned that these 2 used to be FRIENDS then DIVORCED......oh it was over for me. like there are ARTICLES about their 'friendship', like "Jung tells us how their 'long and penetrating conversations' began after he sent Freud a book he’d written" and “You are quite right: on the whole I was unfair to Stekel’s book. But only to you.” and “Your last letter upset me. I have read a lot between the lines. I don’t doubt that if only I could talk with you we would come to a basic understanding.” and "After Freud broke it off, Jung wrote in his diary, 'the rest is silence.'" like WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAAAT.”

IN(T) — Introverted Intuition supported by Thinking
Intrusive thoughts about consequences, possible outcomes (specially negative ones), the dangers of the future and the alternatives or mistakes of the past. Anything that happens with them is a reason for anxiety an d worry, remorse and guilt. Often doubts their own senses and reality itself, overthinking that they might be hallucinating, becoming delusional. Pictures of terrors easily come and go - they tend to create phobia and irrational neurotic planning. His mood depends of the ambient: if sunlight touchs him, he'll maybe relax and keep the calm or get frustrated and even more anxious, if night comes, heIl maybe worry over the insects, spiders and threats, the darkness of things. Winter may make him extremely unproductive, the cold night influences his desires - he may prefer to sleep until a better ambient comes. Very "wait and see" - every action must be systematic, organized and clear, therefore, he seeks for things to develop over time before additional hypothesis, theory and plan, before any behaviour is performed. Obsessed with "time", he looks at an abyss of depth or the multiplicity of abstractions, naturally perceives the inner nature of things within a rhizome. He has visions of the "ending" - he reaches conclusions by an automatic, insightful and dialectical, "contradictory" manipulation of simulations and the development of simulacras, hegelian sublations, "intellectual intuition" or "passive thinking", interpretation of reality, of evidences, facts. The symbolical intuition of this type tends to allow him to imagine timelines of essence: he knows very well his own character and the personality of an object, or that is what he assumes. The past self and the contingency of the futures. With his irrational nature, he may believe in fatalism and desistence, if he ever falls in inertia. Nostalgia and deja vu is common; the only tangible and real thing for his mind is difference, transformation, changing, and also, repetition. He becomes used to things repeating and repeating, often recalling memory-images. This can be actually sad, because it may be a prison of never-ending "nostalgic suffering". Often talks about things in a "delusional" manner (must you remind that he is an irrational type) - he sees things other people do not see, and if he ever chooses to talk about those things. it mav come oft as vague and meaningless. But that is his nature; seeing meaningful existence within "meaningless" personality, and brutal meaninglessnesses within "charismatic" personality. Driven by its own understanding of possibilities, motivated by inspiration and sense of purpose, wordly ambitions (that he usually lacks, often depressed).
Flashes of inspiration and innovation, insights concerning relationships between ideas and images of thought, his whole behaviour is rooted on symbols and signs - his own imagination and his hyperreal living. Most characteristic traits are skepticism and critical organizing faculty. Naturally directed to reading - most manifestations of this type cultivate and collect with pleasure its knowledge and broad storage of raw data. This is the most strategic, perfectionistic and nervous type. He's often not able to displace doubts, prone to obsessive notions of orderliness and cautiousness. He sticks to the rules and treats everyone according to the laws of society, but he is extremely and absurdly mistrustful of everything - people and objects - he doesn't believe that others are good, but neither believes that they are bad. Self-controlled and blunt, usually wants to let things clear. Spends high amounts of time planning, seeking order in the environment. He works overtime and generally distracts himself with work and activity (in order to not get stuck on his fatalistic mindset, to escape reality and doom). Checks things obsessively, compulsive analysis-paralysis, always worried over minor matters: details oriented and neurotically systematic. He swings between 2 extremes: falling into the abyss of meaninglessness and the lack of wordly ambitions, or, being absorbed by thoughts about plans for tomorrow, about how things should've been, about mistakes and multiple possible errors. High responsibility oppresses him - he has a high sense of dutifulness and feels that it is necessary to keep promises, to solve his obligations; but those things are painful and he fears them. Has neuroses related to obsessive states, somato-hypochondriac states, timidity. Worrisome and internally not confident in himself; indecisive and irrationally guilty, apprehension and perfectionism invades his mind. He is detached, skeptical, a cynical loner who finds little joy in human relations. Gets described by others as solitary, depressed, worried. introverted, and shy. In certain manifestations, he can express a lack of energy and direction in life. Passive in circunstances, inconsistently unenergetic, generally devoid of passions and aimless. Pessimistic and insecure, highly intellectual and introspective. Some manifestations of the type can be described by other persons as learned, well-read, persevering, rule- abiding, calm, and industrious. Their leadership style is likely to be seen as no-nonsense and instrumental. tense and effective. Examples of this type are often found in chess ambients - interesting enough, they'll study chess the entire day and fall asleep, dream about chess, having practices and study in the dreaming, and then wake up. and follow their routine. Inclined to second-guess everything. Fears having nightmares.
He is someone that craves structure and order but never seems to be able to achieve the order and routine they desire. Their own emotional instability fosters a self-defeating pattern, a logical kind of personality entirely rooted on fear, ambition, anger or similar types of "energy". Does not change location of work without any reason. living according to his idealizations and standards, doesn't like unexpected or acidental events, dislikes surprise and random happenings - those things will drive him nervous and anxious, for sure. Indecisive and neurotic because he likes to have matters settled whenever possible: extremely analytical but prone to paralysis. He's not oriented to multitasking, usually; most manifestations probably are tactical and very methodic. Needs to get things off his mind, having zero responsibilities to worry about. This type often has many methods and procedures, "manners", weird ways of doing things and weird ways of expecting things to be done. Tends to experience many negative emotions and few positive emotions. He is changeable, depressed, tense, impatient, moody, anxious, irritable, nervous, unambitious, cold, unreliable, self-centered and stubborn. Most introverted type, characterized by being the coldest human in the world. He never shares his emotions with people, never talks about how he feels, avoids his own sentiments and tries to keep a stability. Usually, not good at all with people - and never would want to interact with them - extremelv uncomfortable with self-expression; emotionality is a strange thing. Yet, they can be strongly concerned about what society or other people might think of them, this type might even get suddenly annoyed by his own perception of others' perception of him. Nervous, he possibly gets multiple eye twitchs, his facial muscles tics out of stress. This type always has a melancholic or phlegmatic appearance, looking "adult, mature. His facial expression rarely changes and his voice tends to be "low volume", apathetic and dispassionate figure, aloof, brooding, and indifferent. Some manifestations stay completely calm and in control in most situations. Usually doesn't laugh (he gets embarrassed and feels vulnerable with emotional expression) neither smiles, though he can maniacally laugh or smile and cry - alone or with friends. Emotionless, low confidence, modest or humble, doesn't hesitate to confront and question others, slightly possessive and "paranoid love with people he loves. Can be protective, altruistic and agreeable. He observes, recognizes and internalizes people's emotions, the suffering of humanity and the emptyness in the world, becoming quite forgiving and caretaking of those that deserve. Some manifestations can express creepy sense of humour, often black humour, sarcasm, irony, even sexual jokes. This type generally holds a hatred towards society, people, or something.
Insomniac, keeps working non-stop and barely eats or cares about his health. Meticulous and bizarre, having several quirks, bites fingernails and most versions of the type are lethargic. Some manifestations cares little about its own appearance but most versions have deep insecurities concerning the appearance they have - which means that some manifestations also care about their appearance too much, they zeal for their health and for the health of the ambiente or the people, and dislike uglyness. Constant need to suspect even simple natural processes as threats, wants to fix the ambient, sensations create anxious perfectionism. Some manifestations can be motivated by anger and passion, being anti-stereotype. Sounds and lights, smell and taste, those are all uncomfortable and irritating - people singing and people eating frustrates - extremely prone to sensory overload and stress. Doesn't filter information very well, taking every sensation all at one time. Some manifestations of the type listens to music 24/7 and uses headphones in order to avoid loud things. May lose contact with reality and experience a range of extreme symptoms that may include hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking (speech), and/or grossly disorganized or abnormal behavior (including catatonia). Unfocused, they easily lose attention and concentration. The type usually delas with unfiltered information, ideas and concepts are digested in brute and concrete aspects. May have mood disorder. Some versions of the type may be into sports, running and competition, over-working etc. The type generally can develop interest in martial arts for example, and it can even practice martial arts and multiple kinds of sports, but they often do not have the necessary energy for all of this action. They need someone or something to incentivate their benaviours. to impose an ambition on their emptiness. Their moodiness and irrational nature may be enough reason for undisciplined episodes, lack of self-control: they drink, eat and smoke to the maximum, living like they must die. Their thinking usually is visual-spatial and/or mathematical. Music can be used to control emotions and levels of attention. Usually, he won't explain complicated things, won't talk about topics not useful for the consensus or general layman. He demonstrates and shows results, examples and sources, a multitude of facts and observations, empirical conclusions and research; but he won't explain or deconstruct those informations - he is more interested in the elaboration of data, reorganization and interpretation of old systems, adapting the data into a new shape, a form that fits and represents what he sees.
