It's in past tense. It's clunky because I rarely write in past tense and for some reason I thought I could get away with only doing one draft of a fic mostly written in past tense without it being really awkward and choppy. I could not.

As you may have surmised from the blog description this is a den of embarassment from yours truly while I go through troublesome moments. Those being that, For the First Time ever, I am attracted to a real-life older man, and have to let out that steam somewhere. Otherwise I'll probably combust in his presence.

However occasionally you'll see sappy and even romantic posts inlaid between these [REDACTED] ones. And, given that fictional old men have been my principal receptactles of all my attraction, I will also likely bring them up every once and again as well.

Depends on my mood, thoughts and whims. Mostly the fact that I cannot put these posts or reblogs on my main blog if I want to remain respectable, though.

tumblr blackout proposal

tumblr mobile has steadily become near unusable these past few updates. not just from a user experience perspective (which is important enough in itself) but also from an accessibility perspective.

examples include the new way the image viewer works (if you can call it "working"), the tumblr live button replacing the profile button, and that newly created blogs will be forced to have their main dashboard tab be the 'for you' page.

the demands of the protest would be along the lines of:

reverse the recent image viewer update

scrap the new users 'for you' page default setting

let us turn off tumblr live indefinitely

increase efforts against spam / porn bots

make reporting abuse and hate speech as easy as reporting as reporting spam

let us go nuts show nuts again... for real this time

remove flashing ads, including not accepting blaze campaigns for posts with flashing in them

commit to improving usability and accessibility, and listening to users!

(suggestions welcome!)

to protest against these usability issues, and inspired by the recent reddit blackout, i propose a 48 hour blackout (where you don't use tumblr at all). preferably of both mobile and web (since web has problems too) but mobile is the focus here.

[edit: a 'blackout' is when you don't log in, or interact with the site at all, for [x] amount of time.]

this marks the end of pride month (for the "queerest place on the internet") and the start of disability month (since accessibility is a massive issue here).

Oh, fuck this. If you're a new user, don't forget to set your dashboard to Following and turn "Based on your likes" and "Best stuff first" off

EDIT: A few corrections

For new users, you can't change the default back to Following. This means that whenever you open up your app/go to your dash, the first tab you'll see is the For You tab

Note for the previous point, I can't confirm this since my account is rather old, if anybody has an examples, I'd appreciate it

Yes, some people mentioned that you don't have to turn off Based on your likes and Best stuff first, but that's mostly my preference since (to me at least) it does not work, it just shows me random shit that is absolutely not based on my likes

My main problem with this update is that it strips the user from being able to choose what they wanted to see. It's totally cool if you use the For You tab, but it shouldn't be the default option

Additional points from the tags and reblogs:

You can turn off public likes and followings, again, not mandatory, but it's an option

Make sure to turn off Tumblr Live (pretty sure it's only available to US users, which I am not one) since it apparently drains mobile data

There are (browser) addons and extensions that allows you to block elements or make your tumblr experience better, like uBlock Origin (an adblocker which can be used to block certain elements from showing up) and the XKit Control Panel/New XKit

I’m thinking about that lighthearted post that was about a person and their bf having the cooking vs baking divide and it was a fun post but I also saw a version with an addition with the tags (screenshotted, not tags from someone I follow) that said something along the lines of “baking being a ‘science’ is so stupid it all goes in the same bowl in the end” and I want to strangle that person. Baking IS a sort of science. Specific measurements and specific steps. I’d like to see you try to make macarons. Or cream puffs. Or doughnuts. Or brioche. Or anything sourdough. Mother fucker. Bitch.
