You know what? People shouldn't feel bad about liking things in fandom, or creating things that make them happy. I'm absolutely vagueposting, but this really isn't about one post, it's about a tone I've noticed popping up again lately from multiple people (including people I follow and generally respect!)
-"They absolutely cannot fuck! So crazy people would think about that and be into it, it would break canon! "
-"Mod AU doesn't work, they're Serious Characters they aren't gonna run a coffee shop its OOC! "
-"Actually, fun fluffy fic about them at all during a certain era doesn't work!"
I get it. I agree with a fair part of it. People post all kinds of asinine shit that I hate actually. But you know where I bitch about it? Privately in group chat.
Let people fucking have fun. I get the sense that many people come to this fandom specifically because it's Serious and Challenging and you want to Do Serious Analysis. I think a lot of folks around these parts either are in school and not having a good time about it, or wish that they had gone into better academia that doesn't really exist, and they're getting that need met here. And that's great! For real!
But you know what else is fine? People who either don't have that need, or are getting it met in other parts of their lives, and come here for stress relief and a fun free hobby.
Of course they can't fuck for real! It's not in the text, they simply don't. But the tension is obviously written in, and playing with possibilities can be fun! Also if you can't see how it could happen and still not fix shit, that's a skill issue. Fic authors aren't stupid, we don't fail to understand canon, but not everything has to be everything all the time. Sometimes you want to do all the work and try to match the level of writing in the show, and sometimes you want to have something nice and easy. The show is REALLY well written and what it needs to be, the point of transformative works is playing with what it's NOT. Some people cope with fluff, or good ending everybody lives AUs, and it might be so totally valid to look down on that, but maybe being publicly correct might be less important than being kind?
Actually, the main thing I want to say is that if YOU reading this are a person who wants to write a cute coffeeshop AU, or be horny on main about your boys kissing, it's actually fine!! At least, it historically has been fine. This is a really small fandom now and not that many people are actively creating, please don't be discouraged by this stuff, because the people who criticize on tumblr are actually not the majority. The REASON they criticize is that, if you go to AO3 and sort by kudos, much of it is this super sweet OOC stuff! It looks like that's most of what there is, because a lot of readers in the wild who watch the show and look up fic like it!
Anyway. Let people have fun, it doesn't cost you anything, and not every thought needs to be public. It actually does discourage people.

The whole temper thing has such double standards imo too because for example — Taylor was absolutely crucified for not giving a hug to Celine Dion on stage, saying she was rude, selfish, oblivious, etc. A bitch! But Travis can scream and shove at a coworker of authority and it’s just that he’s passionate? Taylor was slandered for not hugging somebody in a rushed high pressure moment who has a jumpy health condition - imagine if she was seen screaming at tree, or her dancers, or her band on stage? Would anyone give her any benefit, that she’s just passionate about her show and needs it to go correctly? Why do men get to be VIOLENT and have it excused. Sure football is alr violent in nature but do we see other players behaving that way? If they do they’re usually suspended…..
so late to this i hope ur still around anon 😭😭 and this is SO REALL it reminds me of when the girls in my class would close one eye or make excuses for the guys and the fucked up shit they would do and its so frustrating to see a similar mindset in the general public. but after the johnny depp/amber heard trial its not exactly unexpected either.
in my experience this double standard is typically perpetuated by football bros who just want to pile hate on the woman infesting their games (who has generally been seen as stereotypically feminine/superficial to the public for most of her career) and tbh those kind of ppl dont rlly have anything worth saying so I don't take them seriously. like, if someone is arguing that aggression of that level is in any way or context justified.....they are not going to contribute anything meaningful to the discussion so
kind of off topic but I was talking to some new friends (!!) I made at my uni orientation yesterday and we were all kind of ranting abt the horrible guys we had as classmates and one of them brought up a rlly interesting point on intersectionality; ie things like respecting others regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation being seen as feminine (or in the context of the general public, 'woke') and so these guys do everything they can to seem the exact opposite (such as spewing andrew tate ideologies during class...be sooo ffr right now)

like…….i know aisha’s death is really big for johnny’s character development going forward but what if i made up a little “aisha lives” scenario/AU. i just want them to be happy. have you ever considered that.
also all i’m saying is but come srtt time they could just bring her back from the “dead” and she wouldn’t have to be in hiding anymore. i don’t think anyone would care at that point/the saints have enough power to admit to the whole fake death thing. also imagine the johnny/aisha celebrity wedding. i mean come on.

I've actually found a coherent (negative) criticism on Jingli.u's quest!! Wow!! It's in Chinese on weibo
This user said her behaviour is very double standard. That she criticises and condemns both Dan Fen.g and Yingx.ing severely for trying to bring back Bai.heng in any way, but then she goes to visit Bail.u and tells her that seeing her is better than any medicine. And the user is right! That's exactly why they did what they did (well, I've always been of the opinion that Dan Fen.g had more reasons going on based on the in game information), so why the insistent asking to Blade?
The user also says that Jingliu doesn't really behave at all like a friend, that while very believable that she loved and was close to Bai.heng, it's hard to believe the same thing when it comes to Yingxi.ng and Dan Fen.g. They said that nowadays we still see instances through the Xianzhou in which they are both spoken about in positive terms, that Yingxi.ng is talked about as a legendary furnace master, and we can even stumble upon good opinions on Dan Fen.g, but that Jingli.u never shows that kind of understanding for people in theory she loved, knew personally and was close to.
I don't agree entirely with this, I do think there was a lot of fondness from Jingliu shining through despite everything (especially towards Yin.gxing, in my opinion), but I do think it's a somewhat fair criticism. I loved how they mention that despite everything the Xianzhou's view on Yingxin.g and Dan Fen.g isn't just negative. They're right, and it's a detail I love.

Instead of trying to write a fic start to finish I will now simply write out whatever scene comes to my brain and not try to build on it. Eventually I will have enough scenes to create a fic
