hey there, LL fandom!

first off i have been gone for a while, whoops, hello

second, i have been on a huge tabletop dev kick lately, and i am considering whipping up something for lorien legacies! i'm not sure yet how much of it would be its own system vs how much of it would be a supplement for an existing, larger game, but LL has some worldbuilding that i think would adapt really well to RPG format and i thought it'd be neat to give it a shot.

right now the main things i'm planning on adapting in some form are:

legacies, Of Course

charms

the Goop, especially augments and vatborn

chimæra

garde vs non-garde

species (where relevant and appropriate)

whatever is going on with the entity, the spark, and how they relate to different planets' alive-or-dead status

staying undercover vs strategically revealing information

establishing bases, resources, and backup vs being ready to make a clean getaway

guidelines for making/tweaking new legacies, charms, etc while keeping them balanced and fun, as well as leaving room for people to use their own interpretations of the worldbuilding

And So On

it might take me a while to get around to it, and it might turn into a Huge Complex Thing of Its Own, or might just be good for some flavoring and small mechanical twists added on to an existing game. but i think it'd be a lot of fun to work on, and if anyone has suggestions for systems you think it might work well with or other things from the books to adapt, feel free to weigh in!

Ooh, tell me about Grace and Carlos or Andrea Reyes AU?

For you, both.

I don't have anything written for the Grace and Carlos one, but it is going to be a series of them talking on the radio pre-canon through the present. It started when I was thinking about them talking during the opening call of 3x11 and how yes Grace was concerned because she knows Carlos through Judd and the 126, but she also has known Carlos longer than most of them. So I started coming up with snippets of conversations they could have had and calls he could have gone on with her voice in his radio and at some point it started to look like a fic that someday I'll get back to.

The Andrea Reyes AU though, I have a good amount written for. I started writing it during the premiere (before we found out Carlos hadn't told his parent's about the breakup) when @pragmatic-optimist and I were talking, and then continued to be an AU when I decided to play with them not getting back together after the ice storm. It is all from Andrea's POV and it starts with Carlos telling them about the breakup and culminates in Carlos having a bad call at work and Andrea calling TK even though they're not together because she doesn't think anyone else will be able to get through to him. Since I have about 3k written of that, here's some of it:

Gabriel entered the kitchen then, interrupting the conversation before it could truly begin. He gave a small start at the sight of Carlos seated at the counter before he smiled. 

“Carlitos! This is a pleasant surprise. What brings you here, mijo?” 

Carlos merely shrugged, “I was in the area.” 

A third strike, if there ever was one. 

“I’m glad you decided to stop,” Gabriel said warmly, squeezing Carlos’s shoulder briefly as he walked by, “we don’t see enough of you.” 

“Can you blame him, Gabriel?” she quipped. “He would much rather spend his time with his handsome boyfriend than with his old parents.” 

Gabriel chuckled appreciatively before turning to Carlos, each of them missing the way Carlos had shrunk in on himself. It was all so obvious, in hindsight. 

“Speaking of which, where is he? I didn’t think he ever passed up an opportunity to come by and see the goats.” 

Andrea grinned at that. TK had once said that the goats were basically weird dogs and every time they came by for dinner he always made a point to stop by the barn to check on them. The joy he had gotten out of it was infectious and it was just one of the many things she loved about the young man who had helped bring their son back to them in so many ways.  

They were both looking expectantly at Carlos now and it was only then that Andrea started to see the cracks. They seemed to reverberate in him, spiderwebbing across his heart as he took a deep and measured breath, and then another. He looked like he was trying to work himself down from a panic and there was moisture in his eyes, and for the first time since she opened the door she was hit with the knowledge that something was very, very wrong. 

“Carlitos,” she asked gently, reaching across the counter to place one of her hands on top of his, “did something happen to TK?” 

Carlos took long enough to answer that her mind had begun to spin with awful possibilities. Horrible things happening to the man who held her son’s heart; terrifying, catastrophic things to leave Carlos as looking devastated as he was. She exchanged a look with Gabriel who had straightened up and was watching Carlos closely, his mind likely already spinning with ways that he could help.  

“He’s gone.” 

They were spoken softly and no other words could have possibly made the fear in her grow stronger and she squeezed Carlos’s hand tighter. 

“What do you mean, mijo,” she asked gently, trying to keep the desperation out of her voice. “What happened?” 

“He left.” 

And suddenly everything ground to a halt because that didn’t make any sense. “What do you mean he left?” 

“I mean he moved out,” Carlos replied with a bitterness that she had never heard from him before. “Packed a bag, left his key. He’s gone, and he’s not coming back.” 

His voice cracked at the last part and he blinked even as his eyes began to glisten. He sucked in a shaky breath and Andrea didn’t know what to say. Her mind was spinning because none of this made sense. 

“But you love him.” 

It sounded naive even to her ears, but that didn’t change the fact that it was true. Carlos loved TK and TK loved him just as much. She was certain of it. 

Carlos shrugged and though his expression was shattered his voice was brittle when he spoke: “Not enough, apparently.”

Other urban legends:

"Megatron loves Cybertron" let's just burrrrn it

He did fight to save Cybertron in Chaos Theory but also made it pretty clear why he did it. It's not out of the goodness of his heart or any sentimental reasons like that. It's an ego/dominance thing.

Plus his wording when he's trying to convince Optimus to let him go with the Lost Light: "I broke the planet. And that, Optimus, is why I owe it to you - to everyone - to find a replacement."

Replacement.

In other words: I made a mess and can't be bothered to clean it up, so I want to get away from it and find somewhere new to start clean.

I don't think Optimus appreciates the favour.

"Megatron tore down a corrupt government" which is true, just too bad that he's worse

He's also, um, a closeted Zeta admirer?

"Megatron advocates equality" ???

Megatron x dictatorship is literally his OTP. They were inseparable for four million years. A lot of people died trying.

"Megatron cares about the Decepticons" no he doesn't. Not his troops nor its cause.

Like for one thing he treats them with complete scorn

Admits that the most useful thing about keeping Starscream around is that he can bully underlings into line

Wants to use the humans' nuke to get rid of his troops and reformat them into peaceful drones after they outlive their use because they were "too ruthless" for his perfect peaceful society

Has zero scruples about fighting Deceptigod, just affronted that his own soldiers are being used against him

And basically just drops the Decepticons like a bag of vermin after he surrenders. He never once mentions them of his own accord, other than to insist he has nothing to do with them. Even his surrender speech is something Optimus makes him do as exchange b/c he wants to go on parole. He wasn't planning on making a public address otherwise, he was just going to leave them hanging.

Looking at the publication timeline, Megatron started out as an established Evil McEvilson-type villain similar to how he is in G1 and it's not until Chaos Theory in 2011 that JRo really gave him a sympathetic backstory that drew his characterization away from the bloodthirsty pugno ergo sum warlord into someone who once held ideals about societal reform and remains convinced of his own moral supremacy throughout the 4 mill years of death and war, adding worldbuilding such as Functionism/oppression/government corruption as justification for the beginning of the Decepticon movement. But because the start of the Decepticons was already written in Megatron Origins and every evil thing he'd done up till Chaos Theory can't be retracted and they had to keep Megatron as a villain until his story was no longer central to the Autobot-Decepticon war line, and JRo didn't try to downplay the atrocities he'd committed (some of the most sadistically disturbing things Megatron did were exclusively in MTMTE flashbacks), but rather tried to distance him from them and placed the focus on the juxtapositions to emphasize change, this as a whole just resulted in Evil McEvilson getting turned into Hyper McHypocrite.
