Mace snickered as he watched Casimir falter. and his face subtly redden to a light pink-ish hue. The earnest quality of his words drew him in, and he smiled at how easy it was to get lost in it all.

He didn't really pay attention to Duscha as he left, opting to let his gaze fall to the fancy pen and paper sat in front of them, the page eerily blank, housing the anticipation of the writing that would soon fill.

Mace looked back up at Casimir, but instead of that light feeling he'd gotten used to, he only felt as though his limbs were growing heavier as Casimir continued to speak, such heavy ideas floating by, taking a moment to fully register, to invade the quiet he'd learned to associate with the other.

Vulnerability was foreign to him, when it wasn't his own. Somehow, it felt different from those times they'd talked before. More personal, more... significant. It made his head spin.

Without thinking, he took Casimir's shakey hands in his, clasping them delicately, as if they were akin to fragile glass, as if applying any more pressure would make them break. The action brought him a small moment of clarity.

He shook his head. "Don't thank me just yet. Wait 'till it's all over, ey?" He joked, a little hesitant, but firm. Desperate for that control, to not let anything more slip, he kept his normal, casual tone, despite its slight strain.

"Hey, if anyone could do this kinda thing 'n pull it off? It'd be you. You're strong like that. Resiliant. And the most important thing of all, one could argue, is that you deserve it. Deserve to have your future in your own hands, and only yours. That and so much more, kay?" He spoke, his smooth, though slightly quieter shift in his voice doing little to support the weight of his words.

Deserve. Deserving. Something Mace wasn't, yet Casimir certainly was. Perhaps, that was the difference between them, in the end.

Savouring that physical sensation for no more than a moment longer, Mace soon pulled back, before the proximity started to feel more like a prison, and gave a hesitant sort of chuckle.

"Sorry if that was like- weird, aha. Don't mind~!" He said, a comfortable and light grin accompanying the remark.

i jumped for joy when i saw the notification for a 3rd part of ace benson in my email inbox and i've re-read the fic probably 10 times since then. it's so good. like you have their characters down to a tee, the development of their relationship seems so realistic and true to them. drinking and cuddling and kissing by the pier.. benson perchance killing someone and randy not caring.. and then defending and reassuring him after justin's comment.. AUUUUGHH
