Let's talk about anime. Last spring was an intense one for anime fans, but what can we expect this year?

The new title of Production I.G studio ("Haikyuu!!", "Moriarty the Patriot", "Vinland Saga" and a bunch of other great titles)

Giant monsters are attacking Japan (where else could this happen). The defense forces kill these kaiju, but the main character, Kafka Hibino, is not one of them. He has another job, he is a cleaner, he cleans up kaiju corpses after battles. However, very soon he gets a chance to realize his childhood dream and join the defense forces, but unexpectedly begins to turn into a kaiju.

I expect at least an average title from this studio, so I will wait.

I'm really looking forward to the release, because it's an anime based on the manga by Inio Asano (the author of "Goodnight PunPun"), although I don't know how they'll fit everything into movie, so I'm a little afraid of being disappointed.

The alien threat loomed over Japan (they could get used to it). The characters are high school girls who live life in the conditions of the end of the world. They grow up and begin to understand that real demons do not come from other planets.

I highly recommend it to everyone who liked PunPun.

Kurayukaba and Kuramerukagari

Gonna another language ramble ft: Iruma and Japanese.

So, I don’t think ppl quite understand that the ‘deities’ (formerly referred in the translation as ‘genies’) aren’t like. “Gods” in the traditional sense like Apollo and Artemis, or Thor, or Ra or the Christian God or Amaterasu. They’re more like, like Kami, from Shintoism, like nature spirits. At least that’s the impression I get. The narration even said they were ‘one with the natural forces of the Netherworld’ and the ‘guardians of [it’s] balance and existence’.

The problem is this is *really* hard to explain. The way the word is written in in the raws is as 魔神. Which can be broken down into 魔 (read as ‘ma’, meaning demon/devil/evil) and 神. Normally, on it’s own, this reads ‘kami’, but the hiragana reading when coupled with 魔 is ‘jin’ (じん). So they’re ‘majin’. Which is a word that doesn’t *have* a direct 1 to 1 translation or meaning in english, which is where all the issues arise.

From my research, ‘majin’ seems to mean like, ‘demonic person’ or ‘magical person’ or ‘a person with magical abilities’. Except, usually, it seems to be written as 魔人, with 人 being the kanji for ‘person’, not with 神. With THIS spelling I’m getting ‘evil spirit’ and ‘genie’ (and ‘majin’ does seem to be ‘genie’ in japanese) as translations. Which makes sense since a what is a genie but a powerful being/person with supernatural abilities?

It’s. confusing (also the only other place im finding 神 reading ‘jin’ is in 神社, which means Shinto Shrine. Which honestly just, makes me more certain that they’re meant to be more like a kami than a God (if that makes sense).

So like, they’re powerful magical demonic beings, viewed as ‘deities’ (as we see w/ the family backstories for Gaap and Eito, they can bestow power and such onto demons, seemingly easily). But they’re not like, gods with a capital G. They seem to preside over like, one set of aspects- Thoth seems to be a being of knowledge, Harpus seems to be wind aligned, Ifrit is a fire being-as opposed to like, everything.

They’re powerful but not all powerful and it doesn’t seem like they rely on the prayer and worship of the demons, esp since they’re stated to predate them.

But trying to explain this to ppl is, hard. “They’re Gods” “Well, yes but also no not really.” And I don’t think this really shakes things up story wise, we’ve known since the Harvest Festival that these genies existed and were powerful. We just didn’t know that much about them really aside from that.

Ppl just. Gotta stop thinking of them in terms of gods like the Greek Pantheon and more like, nature spirits?

Well, you asked me a very painful question…..

I will go through so much pian while answering it……

I have no idea what is going to happen to him. But, as you want to know my thoughts… I will let you know about them… but, we will have to talk about some different options on regard of these 2 things:

Who will destroy him? And how?

What will happen to him?

Let's start with the first one.

Who will destroy him?

It's either Amane/Hanako or Yashiro.

If it's Yashiro, then it's the same as always, she will just remove the seal and it's done.

If it was Amane/Hanako. It will almost happen in the same way as No.6 and Sumire.

In the almost same way:

I see it as this:

Tsukasa himself asked Amane/Hanako to destroy him in an undirect way. As you see here. (pay attention to the kinfe, i will be talking aboout it later.) I will say here, Tsukasa is grabbing Amane's hand while the blade of the kinfe is directed at him.

The knife is showing the murder... I wonder what that means....?

(The focus on the knife in all these is scary.)

Tsukasa seems to be asking the same Sumire asked No. 6 to do. (These human yorishiros are really a piece of art. I bet Sumire and Tsuaksa will be good friends if they met.)

Amane/Hanako will agree to his twin's (yorishiro) want and do it himself. I think out of two things. The first one is that Tsukasa asked for it to be done by 'him'. And that he wants to be the one to end Tsukasa himself because Tsukasa is 'his'. He is his yourishiro. It's his work, no one else's. He can't let anyone touch his precious Tsukasa or end him. It's only him who is allowed to do it. Because Tsukasa belongs to him. And it's a thing between them only. Just the two of them. No one from the outside should interfere. It's their business. They don't want a stranger to do it. Not even Yashiro herself I believe.

I'm more with the second option, which is Amane/Hanako will do the job. It makes a lot of sense since he did it before. I believe he killed Tsukasa before as a way to protect him from the world. As a way to save him. It seems their life was so difficult that killing Tsukasa and then himself was the only way for them to be free. I think.

Their story is so similar to the story of Hakubo and Sumire. The end of their story may seem to almost everyone else as so cruel. To be eaten by the one you love, while both of you agree to it. But to them, from their point of view, it was the best decision for them to take. Much better than their life being controlled by someone else. It's better for Sumire to be eaten by the one she loves on her will, than to be sacrificed by the people of her village against her will. To me, the story of Hakubo/ Sumire reflects the story of Amane/Tsukasa. The same could be said about the twins. the two stories are like 2 sides of a coin.

And here... I think it's the same.... Both Tsukasa and Sumire are happy to see their loved ones... how can I say it... showing a face (emotins of sandess and despair?) they like it ... for some reason... (another reason why they should be friends.) I feel sorry for the other 2.

If Nene took the decision to do it herself to protect Amane from the pain that will come to him if he did it himself. Will Tsukasa let her? Maybe he will? Maybe he won't?

Nene cares so much for Amane and loves him, she would want to protect him from being hurt. But, it's not easy on her either. She wasn't able to do it to Sumire. How could she do it to Tsukasa? The most important thing for the one she loves? Tsukasa who she herself feels sorry for? She wanted to know more about him before… she understands how much he means to Amane since she was able to see he is Amane's yorishro, without Anyone telling her. It will be so painful for her. She feels sorry for both the twins. And the poor girl, whatever decision she may take, will lead to pain. If she did it, she will be hurt, Amane as well. If Tsukasa is just a yorishro like Sumire, who was just a normal 'Human' girl. He will be gone for good.

But, he is not. He is more than that. He wasn't a full human. In fact, I believe the human side that is left in him after he left the red house is so small. He threw himself in fire, yet, was able to generate like nothing happened and went back home. It's not human.

I want to add a little something here, Tsukasa seems to have a thing with fire… Like it's always there when he appears or disappears most of the time. Like he is made out of it. Hmm… he burnt the red house… the 'kami' of the red house which is the same 'kami' of Sumire's village… (I believe) is inside him… Tsuaksa is one with the red house, we can say? He burnt himself with it… and now, fire is a thing for him… it's worth thinking about, right?

The human side that is left in his even if it's too small. It can still kill him. good to know.

He also, can read people's hearts and see their wishes and when they will come true it seems. This is 'so' unhuman.

Also, he has a thing inside of him. The 'kami' all the sacrifices go to I think.

So, Tsukasa is not a normal human yorishiro. He is a different case from Sumire. Will what happened to her happen to him and he will be gone completely? I doubt it.

Let's see, removing his seal would get him….

Maybe it will make him even more powerful and he will be able to use the power of the 'kami' in him to its full potential? Maybe he is the said 'kami' who will grant the final wish? Everything is possible in this manga.

And worth nothing, he was sealed in the beginning of the manga and was incredibly weak. (he got beaten by tea.) Then, he became powerful that he was able to kill a mystery with ease. I see there was a very good reason to seal him in some way. He has dangerous powers.

It's said that grandma Minamoto sealed the red house because it's too dangerous. Hmm... She also sealed Hanako… there is something going on here.

I don't think that 'Kami' can have a stable form alone. Hmm…

"Watashi, the Seito Kaichou of Neko High School, am here to stop you from your dastardly deeds!" Kaichou-san declared. "I heard EVERYTHING you just said about your murderous, yandere desires, and I REFUSE to stand for it!"

"I have no time to play ur stupid games," Bokutachi-kun sneered. "I have important business to attend to. Love rivals to throw off buildings. Hotties to seduce~" He wedged the rest of his bulge — I mean, body — out of the window. "Smell ya later!"

"COME BACK HERE RIGHT THIS INSTANT SO I CAN DISPENSE JUSTICE, U BAKA KUSO YAROU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Kaichou-san lunged for the window, to no avail. Bokutachi-kun had already slipped away. "Gosh darn it to heck! I almost got him that time…" Kaichou-san cursed, shaking her fist angrily.

Collecting herself, she picked up the discarded letter. "Mad Beast Bokutachi said something about the school roof… I'll ambush him there!"

Kaichou-chan immediately ran out of the door… though she was unfortunately headed the exact opposite direction as the school roof.

"You want to know where the school roof is?"

Dolce-chan stared at Kaichou-san, who had just bashfully asked for directions to the school roof, in disbelief. Was THE Kaichou-san, the legendary Seito Kaichou of Neko High School who had reduced school crime by over 90%, who ruled the school with an iron fist, who had single handedly annihilated the banchous of the 4 Heavenly Gangs when they had attacked Neko High School…

…unable to locate the school roof, which was literally just the top of the school building?

"It's… on top of the school building…" Koneko-chan said, echoing Dolce-chan's thoughts. Koneko-chan sounded much more unsure than she normally did after returning from that Takoyaki Taiyaki Stand. Dolce-chan wondered what had happened within the last few hours to shake her normally calm and collected sister so deeply.

"If you need any help getting there, we could go with you," offered Dolce-chan.

Kaichou-san flushed vigorously and shook her head. "N-n-n-no, it's… completely daijoubu! I-I-I'm just… slightly directionally challenged!" (TRANSLATOR NOTE: daijobu = ok)

Dolce-chan shrugged, sweatdropping like in anime. "Well, if you say so…"

"Uh, Kaichou-san?" said Koneko-chan. "While you're there… could you check to see if there's a green haired girl with gray neko ears and purple eyes? She's my… tomodachi, Raku-chan."

"I will try my best. I'm looking for someone too, anyhow," said Kaichou-chan.

"Really?" said Dolce-chan, mildly interested. "Do you want us to keep an eye out for whoever that is as well?"

"No… I'm already fairly sure that he's going to the school roof." Kaichou-san triumphantly brandished a familiar pink envelope. "I even have this Aishiteru Letteru as proof of it! I'll finally hunt down that accursed Mad Beast and deliver DIVINE PUNISHMENT upon him! Justice WILL prevail in the end!"

Dolce-chan's eyes widened. "Mad Beast Bokutachi-kun?!!! What a serious situation."

Koneko-chan's eyes widened too, for a completely different reason. "An Aishiteru Letteru?!!!" she exclaimed, goggling at the letter. "Would it, by any chance, be in a pastel pinku-chan, sakura & strawberry scented envelope with a kawaii red kokoro sticker?!?!?!?!!!!!!!"

Kaichou-chan looked down at the letter and took a tentative sniff, only now just noticing the very specific details. "Indeed, you're right. How did you know all that just from a glance?"

A very, very bad suspicion was beginning to form in Koneko-chan's head. Like Bokutachi-kun, she was starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together, though unlike Bokutachi-kun, she actually had all of the pieces and the puzzle was more like a high quality, hand crafted wooden masterpiece decorated with a beautiful and calming piece of scenery than Bokutachi-kun's cheap, tacky, Walmart-knock off brand, halfway cut cardboard monstrosity with half the pieces missing and the other half refusing to connect with each other without an ungodly amount of bending and forceful shoving. In addition, the picture on Bokutachi-kun's puzzle was a fugly, 6.9 ppi quality minion clipart. Yes the ones from Despicable Me.

Why anyone would make a puzzle of a minion meme, I don't know.

"Onegaishimasu… may watashi be allowed to examine that letter, Kaichou-dono?" asked Koneko-chan. The quaver in her voice gave away the fear she was desperately trying to conceal with her overly polite responses.

Dolce-chan and Kaichou-san looked at Koneko-chan concernedly, noticing the change.

"Are you okay Koneko-chan?" said Kaichou-san. "As Seito Kaichou, it's my responsibility to ensure the well-being of Neko High School's student population. If you are not feeling well, perhaps you should go see Vet-sensei for a check up."

I thought that Vet-sensei's veterinarian license was revoked after the whole door insurance incident, though… Dolce-chan thought, sweatdropping. What was the door insurance incident, you may ask? Well you see… don't ask questions you're not prepared to handle the answers to.

"Anyway, though, you wanted to see the letter?" Kaichou-san continued, handing the letter over.

Koneko-chan nodded. "Hai… This is the only clue we have right now. I have to know. I have to know the shinjitsu." (TRanslator note shinjitsu = truth)

She took a deep breath. It would be painful, but she had to do this. To find out the truth. To save Raku-chan.

She opened the envelope.

I worked 12-hour shifts there, but since the cups were constantly moving on the conveyor belt, there was no end to it. It was terrifying. Plus, it had a roof but no doors, so in the winter, the cold north wind would blow in while I just watched the cups… (laughs).

--That sounds like a tough job.

Mana: It was tough. It was torture (laughs). Nowadays, even if your hair is dyed, it’s socially accepted, but back then, if you had a part-time job, it was limited to handing out tissues or working in a factory (laughs).

Kami: Yeah, or working for a delivery service.

Mana: "Yeah, like at those places where the packages come down on conveyor belts (laughs). I was once in charge of handling packages going to Tokyo, and while other people only had a few packages coming their way and were taking it easy, I was getting a constant stream of packages (laughs)."

Garb of the Kannagi

This will just be a quick post, but I came to the realization that all of our sacrifices are donning a particular kind of outfit.

Nene and Aoi...

...Katakuri and the washed ashore kannagi...

...They're all wearing kimono and hakama!

Not only were all of these characters sacrificed (or attempted to be in Nene's case), but they wear the same clothes.

Purportedly, kannagi in real life also donned these sorts of garments. Sometimes translated as "priestess", kannagi would serve their gods (or kami) by soothing them with songs, imparting their godly will onto the people, or even sometimes invoking their spirits and allowing them to possess their bodies--a practice similar to one associated with real-life yorishiro.

Now, regardless of how true any of that is, it remains a common perception of kannagi today. And it kind of has me thinking of somebody else...

...yes, Tsukasa-kun!!

Isn't that interesting? It's not exactly the same, but he also wears a kimono and hakama. Although he wasn't sacrificed while wearing this outfit as a child, and neither was he wearing it at his time of death, he does wear it as a ghost.

I've always been fond of Tsukasa's apparel since learning of its history as being used by male students during the early 20th century, making it a nice parallel to Hanako's own clothes (particularly when he dons his cape) which also has its roots in fashion from that time period. I figured that was the gist of why AidaIro chose this outfit for Tsukasa, but I have to imagine this link between the kannagi and him was intentional.

I wonder if this is supposed to show Tsukasa's connection to the entity that may still dwell inside of him, the one theorized--but not confirmed to be--the same kami/god that the kannagi from Sumire's village were sacrificed to? If so, I really have to hand it to AidaIro!

Yukikaze: You’re amazing, Kafka. Your wisdom is seeping out from these documents. 

Kafka: Hah? What’s prompting you to state the obvious? Well, whatever. I guess that means you approve, at least. 

Renga: …I'm not convinced.

Kaede: …!

Renga: I recognize you as the 0th Ward Mayor. But, the 3rd ward will bring HAMA back to life in its own way!

Liguang: …Hah, big talk for someone who’s been dragging everything down.

Renga: Whaa-!? Who’s dragging what down!?

Kaede: (Uh, well, Renga-kun’s the person responsible for the weird changes to Landmark, right? I’m anxious, to be honest…)

Liguang: Ignoring the idiot in the room, I cannot endorse this. The plan itself is logical, but teaming up with this fool beside me is illogical. 

Yukikaze: I think it’s a good idea. Most importantly, being able to work together with Kaede makes me happy enough. 

Kafka: Okay, nobody asked for your feelings on the matter. Also, everyone will be work colleagues from now on, so make sure to address people properly by their title. 

Yukikaze: Yes, I got it. Chief, right.

Kafka: Sigh, anyway, I didn’t expect for all of you to be on board from the get go. But I want everyone to reaaaally think about their own standing thoroughly, okay.

Liguang: …

Renga: Standing!? What are you implying with that!

Kafka: As the 0th Ward Mayor, I have the right to sack the other Ward Mayors.

Renga: Sack, like a potato sack? We’re getting potatoes…?

Liguang: Sigh… Bèndàn…

Kaede: Renga-kun, getting sacked means you’ll get dismissed…

Renga: …Dismissed…

Renga: Ahem, I-I knew that!!

Renga: No, wait…!? Are you threatening me!?

Kafka: …Calm down for a second and think about it with a cool head. HAMA failed to meet the tourist quota for two years in a row. The way things have been going needs to get completely overhauled or it’s a bust, in other words.

Kafka: Renga, Liguang too, you should’ve been putting serious effort into the revival of your own wards these past two years. You understand what I’m getting at, yes? Basically—it’s time for a change.

Kafka: In any case, if we don’t overcome the tides this year, then the special ward zone will fall and everyone here will lose their status as Ward Mayor. Why not try doing things differently than before, even if it’s just once?

Liguang: …Is this what the plan is for?

Kafka: Morning Squad will go out on the field first—if the first tour isn’t received well at all, then you can take your leave. 

Kafka: All I want is one chance. I beg of you.

Kaede: (Kafka…! Going as far as bowing down…)

Renga: Ueh, nuh, uh…

Liguang: …Understood—I’ll obey until the results of the initial response are out.

Kaede: (...! Liguang-san… He’s way more upright than he looks…!)

Renga: … Me, too… I’ll go along if you insist…

Liguang: Why are you the one acting condescending?

Kaede: (...And they’re back to fighting in the end.)

Yachiyo: Hawawa… C-can these people here really help us out…!?

Kafka: Friendship is beautiful, isn’t it.

Kafka: Guess it was a good thing I was prepared for this, right?
