El francés volvió a ser decisivo en un partido atascado para su equipo TOMÁS FERNÁNDEZ Nueva victoria del Al-Ittihad de Karim Benzema ante el Sfaixen (1-0) en el Campeonato de Clubes Árabes. El ex del Real Madrid debutó con el equipo árabe en la victoria de los suyos ante el Esperance de Túnez hace tres días, partido en el que anotó un gol y dio una asistencia, (y hoy ha vuelto a ser decisivo para su equipo). El reciente campeón de la Liga Árabe se medía a un Sfaixen que perdió en la primera jornada del torneo ante el Al Shorta iraquí. El partido parecía, a priori, más desequilibrado de lo que después se dio -al menos en la primera mitad-. La primera parte estuvo muy disputada entre ambos equipos hasta el minuto 20. Benzema avisó primero en el partido en el minuto 9 tras un buen disparo con la zurda desde fuera del área que se marchó fuera rozando el larguero. El Sfaxien quiso sorprender, y en su único acercamiento al área rival, generó peligro en una jugada en la que el defensa del Al-Ittihad Al Hawsawi estuvo correcto despejando de cabeza el centro que el conjunto tunecino había colocado. A partir del minuto 20, el dominio fue total por parte de los locales, que comenzaron a lanzar centros al área, aunque sin remate claro. La ocasión más clara la tuvo en sus botas Hamdallah. El atacante marroquí salió en una contra con el balón controlado y tras una buena carrera, lanzó un zapatazo al palo largo de la portería de Gaaloul, que hizo una gran estirada y la detuvo. Cerca del final de la primera parte hubo polémica. Hussein Ali le hizo una falta a Hamed, que cayó al suelo. Ali trató de evitar golpearle saltando por encima de él con la mala fortuna de pisarle la cara con los tacos. El árbitro, que le había sacado amarilla en primera instancia, fue llamado por el VAR y tras revisarlo decidió expulsar al '10' del Sfaixen. Benzema se zafa de varios rivales.Al-Ittihad Nuno Espírito Santo, entrenador del Al-Ittihad, no quedó muy contento con la primera mitad e introdujo tres cambios en el descanso. Entraron así Al-Farhan por Hamed, Bamsaud por Shanqeeti y Al-Olayan por Al-Amri. En el comienzo de la segunda mitad, el Al-Ittihad trató de anotar un gol pronto, pero una gran defensa del Sfaixen no se lo permitió. Tuvo que aparecer la magia de Karim Benzema para desatascar el partido en el minuto 62. Tras un rebote dentro del área que acabó con el balón en el aire, Hamdallah se quedó con el balón y se lo pasó de cabeza a Benzema. El francés sacó sus dotes de Balón de Oro, y con un buen giro de cadera y un tiro raso potente puso el balón en el fondo de la red. Eso sí, tocó el palo antes de entrar. Tras el gol, el Al-Ittihad continuó el con el dominio del encuentro encerrando a su rival, que poco pudo hacer y perdía el balón en muy poco tiempo tras recuperarlo. No pudieron ampliar la ventaja los campeones de Arabia Saudí ante un rival que se quedó con nueve jugadores al final del partido tras la expulsión de Conté al recibir la segunda amarilla en el minuto 84. Karim Benzema ya pone el nombre del Al-Ittihad en el punto de mira y sigue sin perder esa esencia que empezó a demostrar desde muy joven en el Olympique de Lyon y, posteriormente, en el Real Madrid. “No deja de sorprendernos la música española en el paso del siglo XVIII al XIX”

La Tempestad, el conjunto de Silvia Márquez, ofrece en IBS Classical un programa de primicias discográficas con obras escritas para la cámara real española entre 1794 y 1814

Con la soprano Eugenia Boix, el tenor Karim Farhan y el violonchelista Guillermo Turina como solistas, La Tempestad, el conjunto murciano que fundó y dirige la clavecinista y pianista aragonesa Silvia Márquez ha registrado para IBS Classical un importante álbum de rescate patrimonial, que se acerca a un patrimonio aún poco conocido de la música española, el de la transición entre el siglo XVIII y el XIX.

–¿Cómo nace este proyecto? –Llevábamos tiempo colaborando con Judith Ortega y el ICCMU [Instituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales]. Habíamos hecho algunas cosas con las sonatas de oposiciones que editaron. Y otro de los proyectos se basaba en recuperación de música del archivo de Parma, vinculado a la reina María Luisa de Borbón, donde hay mucha música de la Real Cámara. Empezamos por las sinfonías de la propia María Luisa, primera española compositora de sinfonías, al menos que se conozca.

–¿La hija de Carlos IV escribió sinfonías? –Sí, en el archivo de Parma hay cuatro; está trabajando en ellas Ana Lombardía, del ICCMU. Participamos en un concierto por el 200 aniversario del Museo del Prado, y tocamos la 1ª porque tenía menos plantilla. Es una sinfonía muy pequeña, dos movimientos, unos diez minutos. No deja de resultar sorprendente que la reina no sólo fuera una gran melómana, sino que ella misma escribiera música. Pues en ese mismo concierto tocamos el Concierto para violonchelo de Francisco Brunetti, que estaba en el Conservatorio de Madrid, y allí surgió la idea de hacer un disco con música del archivo de Parma.

–¿Y cómo fue la idea de meter música religiosa? –El Festival de Arte Sacro de Madrid nos invitó a hacer ese programa con el Concierto de Francisco Brunetti, que por cierto es el primer concierto español para violonchelo, pero añadiendo música sacra. Entonces nos pusimos a mirar en el archivo de Parma buscando obras que pudieran resultar coherentes, y ahí estaban las Lamentaciones de Gaetano Brunetti, que fueron un descubrimiento absoluto y que obviamente tenía relación con Francisco, porque era su padre, lo que nos venía muy bien para trazar el hilo. Seguimos buscando música religiosa y entonces apareció José Lidón. Yo lo conocía como organista de la Capilla Real, aquel fantástico órgano Bosch de la Capilla, pero no tenía ni idea de la calidad y la teatralidad a la que podía llegar con su música vocal. Nos quedó un programa tan redondo que preferimos dejar al margen las Sinfonías de María Luisa (por otro lado, en el ICCMU tienen la intención de que se grabe la integral) y quedarnos con este programa, una muestra de lo que era la música en la cámara real, es decir, en el ámbito privado; esta no era música para la Capilla, que trabajaba de cara al público, sino música escrita para las cámaras de los monarcas.

–En la cámara real, que incluía a Fernando VII, figura tan denostada de nuestra historia, pero que era un refinado melómano. ¿Qué papel jugó en la producción de esta música? –Sin duda, muy relevante. El Concierto para violonchelo vio la luz en su cámara. A Francisco Brunetti fue él quien lo envió a París. El concierto estaba compuesto para mostrar el virtuosismo en la cámara del rey. Tuvo más papel del que pensamos.

–Gaetano Brunetti es ya un músico bastante difundido, pero por su música instrumental (sinfonías, cuartetos...). Sorprende encontrarse con estas Lamentaciones. –Absolutamente. Su música instrumental no tiene nada que ver con esto. La característica principal de estas Lamentaciones es la contención. Cómo logra expresar todos los afectos contenidos en el texto con el mínimo de exhibicionismo. Hay una sobriedad absoluta en la escritura para la voz. Y sin embargo, con unos elementos mínimos, sin grandes contrastes, a través del acompañamiento consigue transmitir todos los afectos. Cuando llega el "Conviértete, Jerusalén" se abre la luz, emplea tonalidades abiertas, grandes registros. Qué maestro. Me ha tenido aguantando, con un nudo en el estómago hasta el final. Es de una maestría absoluta. Me choca el hecho de que este Gaetano era maestro de la Real Capilla, pero él realmente quería dirigir la Real Cámara, es decir, parece que en principio le gustaba más la música profana: y de hecho, lo que conocemos son sus sinfonías, sus cuartetos, sus quintetos, que también están en el Archivo de Parma, por cierto. Es una música mucho más cercana a lo que conocemos de la música de cámara vienesa. Sin embargo, esto, no tiene nada que ver, no sé si quiso experimentar o se lo pidieron, pero lo que demuestra aquí es un oficio tremendo y el dominio espectacular sobre los afectos en música. Es decir, lo básico que conocemos del Barroco, pura retórica. No es conocido en este campo, pero las Lamentaciones demuestran la grandeza de este compositor también aquí.

–Francisco Brunetti, hijo de Gaetano, nacido ya en Madrid, fue a París a estudiar con uno de los Duport y vino con la lección bien aprendida, ¿no? –Completamente. Tuvo que conocerlo todo. Esta obra no tiene nada que envidiar a los Conciertos de Haydn. El primer movimiento es tremendo en el uso de los registros del violonchelo y en las exigencias técnicas. Vino de París convertido en un europeo absoluto. Nada que ver con lo que había aquí. Nos han quedado algunas otras muestras de conciertos de la época, como el de Porretti por ejemplo, que eran un paseo por el campo al lado de esto. Es extraño que este Concierto no se conociera.

–No estaba editado. –Lo editaron para nosotros. Me dijeron el otro día que ya tienen la partitura general casi lista para publicarla. Han hecho además una reducción para violonchelo y piano, con la idea de que sea una obra que se pueda estudiar y que se incorpore de forma natural al repertorio. No sólo para que esté en las orquestas, sino para que los estudiantes lo conozcan y lo puedan trabajar. Este Concierto estaba en la Biblioteca del Real Conservatorio de Madrid. Francisco Brunetti fue el primer profesor de violonchelo del Conservatorio, aunque no se sabe si llegó a dar clase.

–Otra sorpresa es este oratorio (así lo llamaba él) del organista Lidón... –En realidad es una ópera de temática sacra. Es tan teatral, tan exuberante, con esa descripción de la tormenta o del temblor de tierra mediante recursos técnicos virtuosísticos, tanto en los instrumentos como en la voz, muy exigida en las agilidades. De las Lamentaciones de Brunetti al oratorio de Lidón han pasado sólo 20 años, pero es todo un mundo el que hay en medio, ha pasado una revolución estética, que llegó también a la corte española. La obra se ha conservado entera y la queremos hacer. Es un objetivo que nos hemos marcado, a ver ahora cuándo podemos enfrentarlo. Como este disco estaba pensado para una soprano, no había aspiraciones de otra cosa. Y la obra de Lidón es para cuatro voces. Sólo buscábamos completar el programa, pero cuando vimos la calidad de esto, decidimos que iba al disco, aunque no pudiéramos hacerlo entero; ofrecer una muestra ya nos valía.

–La obra es de 1814. Ese período de la música española sigue conociéndose poco y mal. ¿Por qué? –Con La Tempestad yo tenía claro que iba a trabajar la música española de la segunda mitad del XVIII, no tanto la del XIX. Pero no deja de sorprendernos la música en el paso de un siglo al otro. Parece que no había nada, y sí que había. Este período nos está dando muchas sorpresas. Por eso estoy tan feliz con este disco. La realidad es que los grupos historicistas han trabajado siempre más en el ámbito barroco. Venimos de un tiempo en que las formaciones estaban muy delimitadas en ese sentido. Ha pasado también con la medieval. Hacia detrás y hacia delante aún nos queda camino por recorrer.

–La Tempestad se presenta aquí en un formato amplio, con una plantilla de cuerda 4/4/2/2/1... –Lo exigía la instrumentación de Lidón. En el momento en que tienes dos trompas, dos oboes y dos fagotes, es lo mínimo. El Concierto de Brunetti habríamos podido hacerlo con una plantilla menor, pero esto, no. El problema aquí es siempre económico. Pero se unieron algunos factores favorables: salieron varios conciertos y conseguimos una ayuda de la Comunidad de Madrid, y gracias a eso se pudo hacer. La lástima es que este tipo de programas no salgan más veces para poder trabajar en formación grande más veces también.

–¿Y el fortepiano en el bajo? –Lidón tiene un tratado de acompañamiento titulado Reglas muy útiles para todo organista y aficionado al forte-piano, para acompañar como método, demostrando los veinticuatro tonos de la música con los diapasones y acompañamiento. Ahí él mismo está señalando ya al instrumento. Este tratado se publicó en Madrid en 1793; veinte años después, el fortepiano era ya el instrumento rey. Tanto en España como en Portugal se mandaban a los constructores a Inglaterra para que trajeran las últimas novedades sobre su construcción. Con la escritura de José Lidón me parecía el instrumento más apropiado. Lo que no habría funcionando ni en Brunetti ni en Lidón era un clave, y en Lidón en absoluto: por ejemplo, los efectos que se pueden conseguir con el fortepiano en el momento del temblor de tierra son maravillosos; con un clave habrían sido imposibles. El fortepiano sirve además para amalgamar la armonía.

–¿En qué momento se encontraba La Tempestad antes de la llegada de la pandemia? –Este era un muy buen año. Y el próximo también se adivinaba excelente. Seguimos en colaboración con el ICCMU. Teníamos conciertos con programas diversos. Necesitamos que una una parte de nuestra actividad vaya a recuperación de patrimonio, pero otra tiene que ser de música universal, que a veces parece que sólo nos quieren para recuperar patrimonio. Tenemos el mismo derecho que los japoneses a hacer los conciertos de Bach. Y de hecho, con Javier Núñez y Alfonso Sebastián, teníamos programados algunos de los conciertos para varios claves de Bach. Seguíamos con nuestras colaboraciones con Nuria Espert e incluso pensábamos avanzar en ese terreno. Contamos además con una nueva violinista, Sophie Wedell, y con ella había varios proyectos; además de proyectos de grabación. Todo eso para 2020, cosas que estamos tratando de recolocar para el año próximo.

–Ayer mismo se conocieron las medidas de ayuda al sector cultural que ha diseñado el gobierno. ¿Qué valoración le merecen? [Esta entrevista tuvo lugar el pasado miércoles 6 de mayo] –Me han parecido una tomadura de pelo. La única medida real que veo es la posibilidad de acogerse a la prestación de desempleo por situaciones extraordinarias. Pero a muchos músicos, a los que damos de alta para cada concierto, no les va a llegar. Además, aquellos conciertos que no han tenido lugar, no les van a contar porque no han ocurrido. Ellos tenían unos contratos, con unos ingresos previstos que no van a poder recuperar. Por ahí, la medida ya se queda corta. En otros países eso se ha arreglado de otro modo: o pagando los conciertos que no se han hecho en estos meses o pagando directamente una prestación a los freelances que pueden demostrar que viven de eso. Y luego, cuando te dicen que te pueden indemnizar con entre un 3% y un 6% de los conciertos no celebrados... Pero vamos a ver: ¿de un 3% a un 6%? Es que no sé ni qué decir. Si yo he reunido a un equipo para un concierto, pongamos que con un caché de 10 mil euros, por hacerlo fácil... Y, ¿me indemnizas con 300? ¿Quién piensa que el sector se puede mantener así? Me das 300. Y qué hago con 300, ¿me voy de cena con el equipo? Bueno, de cena, ¿los llevo de tapas? Es para llorar. Sólo confío en que las ayudas que han anunciado para las estructuras sean reales, reflejen lo que hace falta sostener, porque si no, ahora mismo ni las pocas empresas que hay ni autónomos ni contratados van a poder subsistir los meses que nos quedan hasta que lleguen conciertos con público.

–¿Y qué piensa que va a pasar con los conciertos? –Me da pena perder el directo. Los cuadros tienen como soporte el lienzo y la música sucede en el tiempo y en ese tiempo lo que sucede es irrepetible. Los discos están bien, pero perder los directos, los conciertos… se pierde mucho, empezando por el propio sonido. No quiero conformarme con la idea de que todo va a ser ahora en formato digital. Y lo de volver con aforos reducidos, habrá que ver. No sé si eso nos dará para pagar las facturas. Tendremos que recurrir a las ayudas. No sé si puedo ser muy optimista de momento. Me falta información. Vivimos en la incertidumbre.

–Hay quien dice que cuando vuelvan los conciertos va a haber tantas ganas que se llenarán todos. –Muchos tienen ganas, pero hasta que la seguridad no se restablezca del todo, con las vacunas o lo que haga falta, el interés se compensará con el miedo, y a eso se va a sumar la crisis económica, es decir, aficionados con menos recursos para gastar. Todo es incertidumbre. A lo mejor en un tiempo puedo ser más optimista, no sé. También digo que no me voy a estar quieta. Todos los proyectos, aunque sean destinados a Internet, vamos a estudiarlos, y a por ellos. Lo que podamos innovar en cultura lo haremos, no le quepa duda, no vamos a quedarnos parados.

‎"كيف لا تجري للمؤمن على فراق رمضان دموعُ وهو لا يدري هل بقي له في عمره إليه رُجوع !"

Artinya:

Bagaimana mungkin air mata seorang mukmin tidak berlinang,

Manakala ia berpisah dengan bulan Ramadhan (bulan yg penuh berkah).

Sementara ia tidak mengetahui,

akankah tersisa dari umurnya untuk kembali bertemu dengannya.?!

‎فمن عمل حسنة ثم اتبعها بعد بحسنة كان ذلك علامة على قبول الحسنة الأولى.

‎كما أن من عمل حسنة ثم اتبعها بسيئة كان ذلك علامة رد الحسنة وعدم قبولها"

Artinya:

Membiasakan berpuasa usai berpuasa di bulan Ramadhan, merupakan tanda diterimanya puasa Ramadhan.

Karena sesungguhnya Allah itu jika menerima amalan seorang hamba, niscaya akan memberinya Taufiq untuk amalan Shaleh setelahnya.

Sebagaimana di katakan oleh sebagian mereka (ulama salaf):

"Merupakan balasan (Allah, pent) terhadap suatu kebaikan, adalah kebaikan setelahnya.

Barangsiapa yang melakukan suatu kebaikan, kemudian ia iringi dengan kebaikan berikutnya, maka itu merupakan tanda di terimanya kebaikan/amalan sebelumnya.

Sebagaimana barangsiapa yang melakukan suatu kebaikan, kemudian ia iringi dengan kejelekan/maksiat, adalah merupakan tanda tertolak dan tidak di terimanya kebaikan tersebut".

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِيْ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِ خَبِيْرًا بَصِيْرًا، تَبَارَكَ الَّذِيْ جَعَلَ فِي السَّمَاءِ بُرُوْجًا وَجَعَلَ فِيْهَا سِرَاجًا وَقَمَرًا مُنِيْرًا. أَشْهَدُ اَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وأَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وُرَسُولُهُ الَّذِيْ بَعَثَهُ بِالْحَقِّ بَشِيْرًا وَنَذِيْرًا، وَدَاعِيَا إِلَى الْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِهِ وَسِرَاجًا مُنِيْرًا. اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيْمًا كَثِيْرًا. أَمَّا بَعْدُ

Para pelajar yang melanjutkan studinya di Yaman mayoritas mereka berada di provinsi Hadhramaut diantaranya kota Tarim, Mukalla, Seiwun, dan Hauthoh.

Jika berbicara provinsi Hadhramaut terdapat banyak sekali ribath (sejenis pondok pesantren), universitas, lembaga pendidikan diantaranya Universitas Al-Ahgaff, Ribath Darul Musthofa, Ribath Tarim, Universitas Imam asy-Syafi’i, Universitas Al-Rayyan, dan Universitas Hadhramaut.

Di Indonesia sendiri banyak sekali para Habaib, Kiyai, dan Asatidz yang sempat belajar di Yaman aktif berdakwah, mendirikan pondok – pondok pesantren, serta aktif di organisasi Islam dll.

Diantara nya: KH. Yahya Zainul Maarif (Pendiri sekaligus Pimpinan LPD Al-Bahjah Cirebon, Alm. Habib Mundzir Al-Musawa (Pimpinan Majelis Rasulullah Jakarta), dan Habib Hanif Abdurrahman Al-Attas.

Untuk di Universitas Al-Ahgaff, perkuliahan dimulai dari Pk. 08.00 sampai dengan Pukul 13.00, satu hari paling banyak ada tiga mata kuliah, kecuali Jurusan Syari’ah wal Qanun yang bisa empat mata kuliah.

Satu mata kuliah terdiri dari satu jam 30 menit. Terkadang ada juga jadwal perkuliahan ba’da ashar dan ba’da maghrib.

Jurusan yang ada di Universitas ini, Syari’ah, Syari’ah wal Qanun, Hadits, al-Qur’an dan Dirasah Islamiyah.

Kitab-kitab yang dipelajari antara lain Yaqut an-Nafis, Minhaj ath-Thalibin dalam fikih, Madhol fi Ushul Fiqh dan Ghoyatul Ushul dalam Ushul Fiqh, Mutammimah al-Jurumiyyah Ibn ‘Aqil Syarh Alfiyah Ibn Malik dalam Nahwu.

KARACHI:

Noor Mukadam’s heinous murder has left the entire nation reeling. Among the many scandalous revelations, one of the most concerning was that the murderer, Zahir Jaffer, was apparently practicing as a psychotherapist after enrolling in a certification from Therapy Works. This case has laid bare the perils of the country’s regulated mental health service sector.

Therapy Works later issued a statement on their social media accounts. “Zahir Jaffer was enrolled as a student in UK Level 3 from September 2015 to September 2016. After this, he joined UK Level 4 from October 2016 to June 2018. He did not complete his coursework and International Essays, and accordingly was never ever given permission to see clients,” However, an Instagram photo on their page that has since been deleted, features a group of its UK Level 5 candidates including Zahir Jaffer.

The website page of Therapy Works claims that it is affiliated with the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) in the UK and is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Since Noor’s case raised a lot of speculations regarding its accreditation, BACP via their Twitter have categorically confirmed that Therapy Works is not a member of their organisation and have contacted Therapy Works to remove the BACP logo from their website.

When contacted, CPCAB, which is the UK’s leading counselling awarding organisation, explained that their role is to approve the design and assessment methods of training to provide accreditation. That said, they have no say in regulating the clinical services provided by their accredited training centers. They shared the following statement: “The training service ‘Therapy Works’ offers bespoke qualifications which are non-regulated but are accredited through CPCAB’s Tailor-Made qualification route… We are aware that many queries have been raised regarding the operations of both the Therapy Works counselling and psychotherapy centre, and the Therapy Works training service. CPCAB has no affiliation with the Therapy Works counselling and psychotherapy centre, and has no authority over the clinical services of Therapy Works. We are however, pursuing all relevant lines of enquiry which relate to the provision of Tailor-Made qualifications offered under CPCAB accreditation at the Therapy Works training service.”

It is important to note that if some counselling service claims affiliation with a certified foreign counselling or therapy body, the role of that body is only to ensure the quality of training educational material, not the treatment offered by those centers. When this article was written, orders had been issued to seal the Islamabad office of Therapy Works. However this is just a temporary solution in the absence of a centralised regulatory body for mental health services which is the need of the hour.

License to treat

When Zubair*, a chartered accountant working for a multinational, felt that his substance use was getting out of hand, he decided to seek professional help and contacted a therapist. He was making progress until he found out that his therapist had revealed details of his issue to one of their mutual acquaintances at a corporate event who also happened to be a colleague of Zubair. The colleague subsequently shared the details with their boss, leading to grave professional consequences for Zubair. Why did the therapist feel comfortable breaking the client’s confidentiality? Why was he gossiping about his clients? All of this stems from no fear of legal repercussions.

The Pakistan Psychological Council Bill, 2020, which was passed in the National Assembly earlier this year and is currently tabled in Senate, aims to establish an international standard council to register psychologists and to recognise institutions and organisations in public and private sectors imparting psychological education. The bill proposes that 16 years of education and 2 years of experience in the field of psychology, applied psychology and behavioral psychology should be the eligibility criteria to be registered as a psychologist. However, the majority of mental health experts are of the view that only those with at least 18 years of education (MS/MPhil in a relevant field of psychology) should be allowed to practice as psychologists.

“Like any profession where service to the public is involved (think medicine, lawyers, nurses) licensing is one way to ensure that only qualified persons enter the profession,” said Dr Rubeena Kidwai, an experienced psychologist with a doctorate in clinical psychology who is also a member of Sindh Mental Health Authority. “Professional licenses are usually conditional upon minimum requirements of education and training so that only qualified persons may practice in a given field.” she explained. “The goal, aside from establishing a standard for professions, is to protect the public from harm. Psychologists often serve vulnerable groups so it is even more important for there to be a licensing body to prevent quackery and malpractice in the name of mental health or psychological services.”

At the moment, the provinces of Sindh, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have Mental Health Acts enacted under which provincial mental health authorities have been formed. “It is the mandate of these bodies to establish and regulate quality standards for mental health services,” Kidwai pointed out. At the moment only psychiatrists are recognised as mental health professionals in these Mental Health Acts. This needs to be amended by including psychologists as well.

“However most of these bodies are in their initial stages, progress in terms of formation of rules and regulations is slow, more so owing to the pandemic, and systems and processes for regulation are still in the works. What can be done is to pressurise provincial governments to speed up the process on an urgent basis so that the Authorities are in a position to set quality standards, develop a system to regulate mental health services and create a system of checks and balances.’

When Senator Dr Karim Ahmed Khawaja, Chairman Sindh Mental Health Authority was contacted to comment on the issue of licensing he shared that various meetings with psychologists have been conducted and those recommendations have been sent to the government but due to COVID, progress has been slow.

Rise in tele-mental services

This is ironic because since the pandemic, the demand for mental health services has gone through the roof. A plethora of telecounseling and virtual mental health service providers have cropped up to address the needs. The plus side to this mode of health services is that it is scalable – people living in remote areas or those who are physically or financially challenged now have access to affordable mental health services due to these providers. However, quality assurance of these services remains a looming concern.

Dr Kidwai seems to agree. “Many people are reaching out for virtual mental health services and many individuals with varying levels of training and qualifications are meeting this demand. There should be policies and guidelines for offering mental health services in virtual space.”

Aftab Shah, a forensic psychologist and a lawyer, shared similar views. “Recently, mental health has been monetised due to a spike in demand. Many new organizations have sprung up that offer 6 months, 12 months diplomas after which they claim that their psychotherapists/counselors are on a level playing field with clinical psychologists who have undergone rigorous studies and clinical supervision.” This is completely unfair since a diploma holder lacks the course work and training of a proper clinical degree.” He believes that licensing for psychologists should be made mandatory, but not under the banner of Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).

He cited cases like that of Farhan Kamrani, which probably would not have occurred in the presence of a strict code of conduct for the mental health sector. For those unaware, Kamrani was an assistant professor at the psychology department of the University of Karachi who in July was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for harassing a female teacher online.

“It is problematic that while Farhan Kamrani was not yet convicted but out on bail, he was already employed at University of Karachi as a faculty member and his contract continued even when he was under trial. He has now been convicted but due to a lack of a regulatory body, there is nothing stopping him from resuming his clinical practice when he gets out from jail after completing his sentence.”

This indicates the dismal state of affairs that is Pakistan’s mental health services landscape.

Colonial hangover?

There is no hiding the fact that the country’s mental health service sector and psychiatric facilities leave much to be desired whether it be state-funded hospitals, large scale philanthropic centers or non-profits.

In the past decade, numerous mental health ventures have sprung up that deviate from the prevailing biomedical model for treating mental health issues and taking a cue from the West’, focus on humanistic centered, positive psychology paradigms. Certifications like the one provided by Therapy Works and CPPD are examples of that. However, there are limitations to the domains in which these certified professionals can work.

A remnant of colonial rule has been an inferiority complex in the general population where anything foreign or imported is deemed superior to its local counterparts. The same goes for certifications and degrees. While no one is arguing the credibility of many foreign certifications, the risk is when inadequately trained, foreign qualified mental health professionals start practicing out of their discipline and when these unethical practices are justified under the pretext of a foreign degree. This does more harm than good for our system.

Mariam*, who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder shared that she had been getting therapy from an apparently experienced therapist at a popular mental health service provider. Following Noor’s case, she enquired her therapist’s credentials which led to her therapist getting extremely offended. After asking around, Mariam found out that her therapist had no background in clinical psychology, was not qualified to treat psychological disorders and had been ripping her off by charging a hefty fee for each session. Therefore, people seeking therapy also need to be cognizant of the basic domains of psychology as well as their therapist’s qualifications. For instance, a therapist with a degree in organisational or counseling psychology can only provide counseling for mild cases and is not equipped to deal with severe psychopathology unless they have undergone specialized training.

Kanza Asad, a certified psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner, shared how she has witnessed unethical behaviour during her professional career. “I have seen the malpractices happening countless times in a way that people with some 3 to 4 weeks or months diploma/ with bachelor’s degree in psychology claims and strongly believes that they are authorized to practice and actually get in touch with the clients to do the therapy which is quite threatening because as a mental health professional I firmly believe that not everyone has that particular ability to empathise and connect with people and facilitate the clients in their recovery journey.” She added that these incidents jeopardise the people’s faith in the mental health system.

Mind sciences

Recently, there has been another addition to the proliferating field of mental health, which are purported by practioners to be ‘mind sciences’. Mind sciences go beyond the realm of orthodox psychology into the obscure science of Parapsychology and Metaphysics. Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistics Programming (NLP) and Reiki come under this sphere.

Neuro-linguistic Programming, NLP, is especially gaining popularity in the country with many organizations boasting of having NLP coaches and therapists on their panel. While there are some organizations providing proper NLP training, it should be noted that someone with only a NLP certificate and no prior training in the field of psychology cannot be referred to as a NLP therapist. Ideally, a NLP therapist is someone who is already a mental health professional with a relevant degree who chooses to gain additional NLP certification through workshops and accredited certifications.

Safeguarding client rights

Conflicting sources are reporting that Jaffer was diagnosed with substance abuse issues for which he sought help from Therapy Works before enrolling in their certificate course. If true, that raises pertinent questions about whether that is an ethical practice and should people currently under treatment for severe mental health issues be allowed to practice as a therapist.

Claiming that one is a psychotherapist or psychologist without proper accreditation provides access to the most vulnerable and at-risk groups in society, a gap that could be exploited by those with predatory or manipulative tendencies. Aisha Sanober Chachar, a child and adolescent psychiatrist who has also worked as a college psychiatrist at AKU, asserts that this is why it is imperative that mental health professionals stick to practicing within their area of expertise. They must clarify their clinical skills and limitations when treating clients or working with the public at large.

She opines that since their professional judgments affect the lives of others, mental health professionals must factor in elements that might lead to misuse of their influence. Therefore, training-based supervision and peer supervision post-training at an institutional level – mandated by a centralized governing body – is compulsory. At the moment, “reporting any violation of ethical compliance and professional conduct becomes a barrier in the absence of a centralised regulatory body. Hence, there is a failure to protect the rights and welfare of clients/patients who are at a vulnerable spot.”

Know your therapist

The terms counselor, therapist, psychologist are usually used interchangeably. Therein, lies the confusion. It is a client’s prerogative and a mental health professional’s duty to be transparent about their credentials so that their clients can make an informed decision.

Dr Uzma Ali, Director Institute of Clinical Psychology, University of Karachi explains the difference. “There is a dire need to distinguish between Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist, i.e. Clinical Psychologist is the one who can do clinical practice and do psychological assessment, counseling and psychotherapy (in which they are trained) to treat mental health problems /disorders after getting their degree in MS/.Phil and PhD in Clinical Psychology. That requires intensive, at least two to three years specialised training in the field of clinical psychology under the supervision of PhD clinical Psychologist only from those Institutes /Universities that are recognized by Higher education commission in Pakistan/or equivalent.

She further added that although counseling can be used to treat mental illnesses, including the most pervasive ones like mild cases of anxiety and depression, licensed counselors or therapists wouldn’t typically diagnose or handle the most severe cases themselves. Instead, if they suspect a client is suffering from something like clinical depression, they would refer the patient to a clinical psychologist.

This is the gray area where most malpractice takes place in Pakistan. Many organisations employ people who are not qualified like those with degrees in counseling, organizational or educational psychology are assigned to deal with severe psychopathology that goes against the healthcare principle of non-maleficence meaning doing no harm.

Until a regulatory body and rigorous licensing procedures come into effect, the onus falls on mental health professionals on maintaining absolute transparency regarding their area and level of expertise. The general population should be educated on the various domains of mental health services so that they can make an informed decision.

Al Quds Adalah Negeri Perjuangan dan Jihad

Sebagaimana pernah sekilas dikemukakan dalam pembahasan yang lalu, DR Muslih Abdul Karim mengutip dari perkataan Ulama Muslimin mengatakan bahwa Palestina adalah "Ummul Ma'aarik", yang maknanya; induk peperangan. Mengapa? Lihatlah sejarah Palestina sepanjang zaman, kita akan menemukan bahwa Palestina selalu menjadi latar pertempuran banyak kekuatan dan banyak negara. Setiap pemimpin besar ingin menjadikannya markas besar untuk menaklukkan daerah lainnya.

Dan Al Quds bagi muslimin adalah tanah perjuangan dan jihad. Tahukah kamu bahwa Al Isra yang menyebutkan Masjid Al Aqsha dan hadits Rasulullah ﷺ tentang keutamaan shalat di Masjid Al Aqsha telah dipahami oleh Umat Islam sebelum Al Aqsha dibebaskan dari cengkeraman Romawi?

Pembebasan Al Aqsha telah jauh-jauh hari dikabarkan oleh Al Qur'an dan hadits Rasulullah ﷺ, dan itulah yang membuat umat Islam sangat bersemangat untuk membuka gerbang Al Aqsha dan mengisinya dengan keadilan.

Jauh-jauh hari, umat Islam telah percaya bahwa Al Aqsha akan berada dalam pelukan Islam, sebab sebagaimana DR Muhammad Imarah berkata, "karena yang paling berhak atas Al Aqsha adalah mereka yang menyembah Allah dan mengikuti sunnah Rasulullah ﷺ."

Pembebasan Al Quds terjadi pada masa Khalifah Umar bin Khattab. Banyak sekali persamaan antara Fathu Makkah dan Fathu Baitul Maqdis. Diantaranya, Al Aqsha dibebaskan oleh pemimpin tertinggi kaum Muslimin sebagaimana Makkah juga dibebaskan oleh pemimpin tertinggi kaum Muslimin. Makkah dan Al Quds sama-sama dibebaskan tanpa pertumpahan darah dan dilakukan dengan cara yang damai. Pun baik ketika Fathu Makkah dan Fathu Baitil Maqdis, Bilal bin Rabah mengumandangkan adzannya. Subhanallah.

Rasulullah ﷺ jauh-jauh hari sebelum pembebasan Al Aqsha telah mengabarkan; bahwa Palestina akan mengalami banyak sekali rangkaian pertempuran yang panjang. Musuh-musuh Islam akan senantiasa berusaha siang dan malam untuk menaklukkan Al Quds dan Masjidil Aqsha. Itulah mengapa Rasulullah ﷺ mewanti wanti umatnya untuk selalu bersikap siaga menjaga Palestina dan pantang lengah.

"Rasulullah ﷺ telah mewasiatkan pada kita sekalian", demikian pesan Syaikh Ikrimah Shabri Imam Besar Masjid Al Aqsha, "untuk bersiap siaga menjaga Palestina sebagaimana Rasulullah memberi kita informasi akan datangnya suatu zaman ketika umat ini akan berperang melawan Yahudi. Dan beliau telah memberi tahu kita bahwa kemenangan akan berada di tangan Umat Islam pada akhirnya."

Inilah pula hadits Rasulullah ﷺ yang menyatakan tentang sekelompok umatnya yang akan tetap kokoh dan berada di garis depan perjuangan membela Palestina, tatkala beliau ﷺ -sebagaimana diriwayatkan Abu Umamah Al Bahily- bersabda, "Akan selalu ada sekelompok kecil dari umatku yang kokoh membela kebenaran. Mereka menaklukkan musuh-musuh mereka. Tipudaya musuh takkan melenakan dan melengahkan mereka sampai datang ketentuan Allah."

Para sahabat bertanya, "Wahai Rasulullah ﷺ, dimanakah mereka?"

"Di Baitul Maqdis", jawab Rasulullah ﷺ, "dan di sekitar Baitul Maqdis."

“TANGISAN SEORANG MUKMIN AKAN PERPISAHAN BULAN RAMADHAN”

Berkata Al-Hafidz Ibnu Rajab-رحمه الله-:

‎"كيف لا تجري للمؤمن على فراق رمضان دموعُ وهو لا يدري هل بقي له في عمره إليه رُجوع !"

Artinya:

Bagaimana mungkin air mata seorang mukmin tidak berlinang,

Manakala ia berpisah dengan bulan Ramadhan (bulan yg penuh berkah).

Sementara ia tidak mengetahui,

akankah tersisa dari umurnya untuk kembali bertemu dengannya.?!

TANDA RAMADHANMU DI TERIMA DAN DI BERKAHI ALLAH:

Berkata Al-Hafidz Ibnu Rajab-rohimahullah-:

‎"أن معاودة الصيام بعد صيام رمضان علامة على قبول صوم رمضان.

‎فإن الله إذا تقبل عمل عبد وفقه لعمل صالح بعده.

‎كما قال بعضهم:

‎"ثواب الحسنة الحسنة بعدها.

‎فمن عمل حسنة ثم اتبعها بعد بحسنة كان ذلك علامة على قبول الحسنة الأولى.

‎كما أن من عمل حسنة ثم اتبعها بسيئة كان ذلك علامة رد الحسنة وعدم قبولها"

Artinya:

Membiasakan berpuasa usai berpuasa di bulan Ramadhan, merupakan tanda diterimanya puasa Ramadhan.

Karena sesungguhnya Allah itu jika menerima amalan seorang hamba, niscaya akan memberinya Taufiq untuk amalan Shaleh setelahnya.

Sebagaimana di katakan oleh sebagian mereka (ulama salaf):

"Merupakan balasan (Allah, pent) terhadap suatu kebaikan, adalah kebaikan setelahnya.

Barangsiapa yang melakukan suatu kebaikan, kemudian ia iringi dengan kebaikan berikutnya, maka itu merupakan tanda di terimanya kebaikan/amalan sebelumnya.

Sebagaimana barangsiapa yang melakukan suatu kebaikan, kemudian ia iringi dengan kejelekan/maksiat, adalah merupakan tanda tertolak dan tidak di terimanya kebaikan tersebut".

1. Sebelum engkau menangis atas kepergiannya, maka muliakan lah ia di kesempatan yang masih tersisa ini dengan sempurna.

Karena Allah tidak menjanjikanmu apapun untuk Ramadhan tahun depan,,,

Apakah engkau masih disertakan,,,

Ataukah sudah berada dalam gundukan tanah yang diratakan,,,

Lalu,,oleh semua,, engkaupun dilupakan..!!

Maka dari itu, sempurnakanlah kekurangan sebelumnya di hari2 akhir ini.

Karena Bulan yang penuh berkah ini masih tersisa dua atau tiga hari lagi.

Semoga aja ajal datang menjemputmu, sedang engkau dalam melakukan kebaikan.

Ingatlah Nabimu-صلى الله عليه وسلم-telah bersabda:
