My favorite scene that I don't think enough people are talking about is the parallel bathroom scene at the beginning of the movie with Katya and ice pick Joe .
It's such a small scene, but it's so significant to the storytelling in plotline, When Katia leaves the parlour scene after playing piano and enters the bathroom, she washes her hands and the camera is shooting her hands in a way to tell the audience that she pure and haven't seen blood. ( We also see this is the scene before , with the camera focusing on her hands as she plays piano) The camera pans up to look at her face. She fixes her lipstick and the scene cuts to ice pick Joe staring into a rusty mirror , camera pans down showing him washing his bloody hands. He had blood in his hands from the start. ( This leads into the beer bottle scene)
This scene might only be in the director's cut ( commonly know and the A.S.S , As Scorsese sees) but that's what I've grown up watching .

Goncharov (1973)
Tumblr media
Goncharov (1973) is truly one of the best mafia movies I have ever seen.
The observation of morality throughout the movie is what I personally believe to be its strongest point. Each characters descent from functioning member of society to crazed and anguished outsider longing for acceptation is so painfully reflective of the world we live in.
The subtextual critique of conformity within a society built upon the degradation and destruction of individuality and human compassion creates a festering conflict within audiences. Of course, Goncharov is the antagonist, but who are we to deny his anger? His desire for human emotion? He is fuelled by the need to see and feel, and is in every way, denied this simple favour. He is a product of his time, and hence strives to defy this.
The beauty of this film lies in time as an over-arching theme. The want to reimburse the loss of time for nostalgia drives Goncharov insane and leads him down a journey of chasing something he will never truly acquire, the past and his own happiness. He hopes to find ways to materialise his memories into reality, to rip Katya and Andrei from the decaying fragility of his sanity, and in doing so throws himself into a perpetual loop of searching and racing against time (and tragically for nothing). It’s frantic and distressing and satisfyingly comes cascading down at the catalyst of the film, with Goncharov slaughtering the child of the very man he swore his life to.
Goncharov (1973) is in every way, a tragedy to behold. We see this in the death of hope and the corruption of the voiceless, with the strength of our protagonists subverted into a desperate and horrifically beautiful plea for humanity. With this, Martin Scorsese effectively communicates the death of the audience on screen.

It’s so annoying to see people be like “oh this mafia movie is cool, it’s my new favorite thing”. I watched Goncharov (1973) before it was cool. I was made fun of in middle school for wanting to reenact it at sleepovers.
You’re soo unique for hopping on bandwagons 😒

Goncharov 1973
I don’t know why others aren’t talking about it, but the symbolism in Goncharov’s death is so impactful! In the beginning of the movie Goncharov mentions how he hates the rain because it shows that while many people say how much they appreciate and important it is, everyone stays inside to avoid getting caught in it, which makes the world feel lonely. Then, in his final moments, he’s confronting his past actions and realizes that he’s only where he is now because he was scared to be alone in the world. Then even though he has spent his whole life trying to avoid it, he dies alone as it starts to rain...

Goncharov 1973
Has got to be the best movie and trumblr inside joke ive ever had the pleasure to whitness considering ive missed many other tumblr inside jokes
For those who haven’t seen the movie go watch it
Id say my favourite part of the movie is the Homoerotic undertones of the film. And I’m offended that some people think that none of the characters are lgbtq++ like kayta is clearly not completely straight.
And the symbolism of feeling like your running out of time when your already out of time is just beautiful.
Thank you tumblr for introducing me to this masterpiece.

Fuckers on Tumblr got me thinking that Goncharov (1973) is fucking real. I was out here looking for it because this sounded and felt like a masterpiece.
Indeed, Taylor, "You know the greatest films of all time were never made".
Pls, I beg of someone, my brothers in Christ, write a script for it or something, I need to fill the need for Gornachov.

So I just saw Goncharov and I have some thoughts.
First of all, both Katya and Goncharov are fulling in the roles that were imposed on them. Goncharov  was literally raised by Mario Ambrosini, into being a copy of him. Mario was isolated, paranoid and alone raising some ‘kid that came with the snow’. At twelve years old you are old enough to know your own name, but we have no idea where Goncharov comes from, he never recollects a time before Mario. Goncharov inherits his mafia position, has the same obsession that Mario had with clocks, and the same isolation and paranoia.
Kayta was adopted from a burned down orphanage to ease Mitya Michailov’s pain from losing a daughter, but she was only ever a substitute, even before Katya has a chance to speak, Mitya named her Katya. Raised by the Michailov family to be their daughter.
Their marriage was one of convenience. Goncharov did what was expected of him and Kayta’s father was the one who ushered it, Katya went along with her familial expectations. We never see them in love, only them just being. They could have been something, shedding the roles imposed on them and choosing who they become. But Goncharov, no first name, ties himself to that identity.
They both have roles/indentities imposed on them, so when Katya acts “out” the way she does it’s because she has the freedom to do so, without any thoughts for the Michailov family or her husband. But Goncharov is still stuck into his identity, never letting anyone in, and dying in the same way that Mario did. The only way that he would have escaped his fate was to change, and he was unable to do so.

That's it I'm done with this school nonsense.
Any rich people looking for a kinda suspicious wife? I'll wear those long dramatic robes and drape myself over furniture. I'll make vauge threats towards your livelihood in a mid-atlantic accent and either dress in classy funeral attire or the latest expensive fashions from Paris.

Book Review: Trixie and Kaytas guide to modern woman hood!
Rating: 10/10
Thoughts: I loved the blunt humor and honesty that comes from these two queens! Even behind the humor there was sorta a little lesson hidden in each chapter! Learning the harsh truth to somethings from the eyes of these two? I’ll take it! It was funny and such a good read. Highly recommend it!

A Clock Tolls
Time can only bend so much For us
We’ve warped seconds into hours Stolen glances into long stares Smoke rolling in like the thickest fog of morning As the cigarette touches your lips Rich red Thick blood
Time can only stop so often For us
Words exchanged carefully Amongst the waves of restless men Looking for an advantage, a weakness in our every move In the few moments we’re alone Sentences racing, hushed What we lack in trust, hurried now with passion
Time has come at a toll For us
The clocktower chimes as the face shatters And your precious warmth is in my palms Bleeding out Swelling between us Filling up the space where love could never be Was never given room to root In us
- Our Masquerade of Fate (Poetry inspired by Goncharov) @revenantpoet
I’m reposting this on my main because I don’t like the graphic I made for it aksjdnaknsd Anyhow! Original a/n:
I did not see myself falling into the Goncharov fandom, but here we  are. Honestly, I've been feeling super apathetic and not so great all  month, but the themes and the imagery here?!?! Fantastic. I don't know  what to write next but definitely want to write more, so if you have any  thoughts/themes/art/music/posts exploring whatever, feel free to hit me  with it and I'll see what I can do! I feel like a small child plopped  into the world's wildest sandbox and I can't stop cackling maniacally as  I play around in it
Anyway, enough rambling! :'D Thank you to @ghostpheonix5 for the prompts! And thank you so much to anyone reading, I hope all is well on your side of the screen!
