Crafting The Story

A FOUNDATION FOR CREATING VISUAL MOVING STORIES

Crafting The Story workshop series is intended to establish a foundation for filmmakers wanting to approach the art form of narrative film.  Those joining these sessions should have some experience in producing videos, though formal training is not required. However having an idea that is ready for development is a prerequisite for participation.

LEAD ARTIST

Kazua Melissa Vang, a Hmong American born and raised in Minnesota, is an artist, photographer, and multi-manager for various productions. She received her Bachelor’s of Arts from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, with a focus on Photography, Printmaking, and Book Arts. Since receiving her B.A., she has production managed and stage managed for Confession of a Lazy Hmong Woman: The Remix and Hmong-Lao Friendship Play/Lao-Hmong Friendship Play with Lazy Hmong Woman Productions, and Viva La Soul Power in Chicago with Kaotic Good Productions. Kazua has been with In Progress since 2014 and continues as a mentor and instructor today.

PARTICIPATION

Each session will be limited to 8 participants. Register by clicking on the button at the bottom of this page. There is no cost to participate but it is expected that those register will attend each session. Early registration is highly recommended

Are there any artists who inspired your art?

yes so many. i feel like the ultimate art consumer and my interests and influences spread far and wide

when i was starting out, jubilee @8pxl's landscapes for sure inspired some of my more pretty environments, as well as kazua oga / studio ghibli backgrounds

i also was really inspired by @1041uuu slice of life pixel art, though i never managed to capture that kind of magic myself

but i think my art "style" is a mixture of many tiny things through years of experimentation, rather than something directly resulting from inspiration from another artist (or at least i would hope so)

I was scrolling through Genshin Impacts’ Tv Tropes page, and I’ve had an idea about what links all the various vision holders together- why they gained that particular element.

Anemo: they’re chained to the past, it’s less about seeking freedom but rather that the past doesn’t bind them. In most cases it’s a death or trauma (Kazua Kaedhara, Lynette, Wanderer, Xiao) but also things like Tradition (Jean Gunnhilder)

Geo: they’ve made an oath to do something or be something e.g. Noelle- to be a Knight, Albedo- to not be corrupted like Durin, Arrataki Itto- to his gang, Gorou- to protect Watatsumi, Ningguang- do gain wealth.

Hydro: They all present false faces to the world, actors, performers, politicians, Spies: Nilou is a Dancer, Barbra is a Singer, Yelan is The Spy, Ayato is a politician and ninja, Kokomi a revolutionary leader, Childe hides a battle maniac

Dendro: the spreading of wisdom and knowledge for the future- Tighnari studies botany not only for himself but to improve the forest ranges, Baizhu seeks immortality and studies medicines to do so not only for Changsheng and Qiqi but to improve the lives of the people of Liyue.

Cryo: a people who would give everything for what they Love- Eula loves Mondstat and would even sacrifice the love of her family to keep it safe, Diona loves her father and seeks to destroy the wine industry or protect him, Kamisato Ayaka loves her family and clan and sacrifices her own happiness for them, Ganyu loves Liyue and all her time and effort goes into prosperity at the cost of personal connections.

Pyro: all are passionate people but especially towards their favorite topics- Hu Tao: Death, Klee: bombs, Bennett: Adventures, Diluc: death of the Fatui, Yanfei: Law, Lyney: Magic (and the house of Heath)

Electro: this one stumps me but I think it’s Devotion. It’s similar to pyro and cryo but more and less, Razor to the wolves of Wolvendom, Cyno to upholding the laws of Sumeru, Yae Miko to Inazuma and Ei, Keqing to bringing Liyue into a future that doesn’t rely on the divine and can protect itself.

This is just my thoughts though

"Well, why don't we go then?" Kazua tilts his head to the side. To him, it's obvious. Is Gorou really that out of the loop? It wouldn't surprise him, Yae Miko is a trickster, after all.

"I think it'll do us both some good, to wander the city and see the sights." Even though Kazuha still has a lot of apprehension about going to Narukami Island, he'll do it to gently set Gorou straight. Or just laugh.

Of course :) Regressor kazuha, cg heizou! Cw: Diapers and the use of them, meltdowns, Emetophobia warning!

Kazuha is a baby regressor! 0-2

Kazuha wears diapers around the clock, due to injuries, Night terrors, and just preference!

Kazua often has breakdowns due to phantom pains in his hands, which, Heizou stays with him and comforts him till he's calmed down!

Heizou often has to check him throughout the day so he doesn't have an accident and go forever without a change, because, well Kazuha can't verbalize that he needs a change.

One night, Kazuha convinced Heizou that he was big and didn't need protection.. safe to say at 12:00 that same night Heizou had to clean himself and his baby up.

Heizou now makes sure he has everything to change Kazuha, carrying a bag with him at all times! Diapers, Wipes, Lotion, powder, Pacifiers, Bibs, Everything!

A very cautious caregiver! "Baby, are you hurt?" "Bub, Let papa check," "Baby boy, do you need a change?" "Little one? Are you hurt?"

Always spoiling Kazuha if they're out together. The second Kazuha shows some interest in something you better believe Heizou buys it for him
