there's something almost magical about putting on your favorite outfit when you have absolutely nowhere to go. i know it might sound silly to some people, why bother getting dressed up if nobody's going to see you? but seriously? those are the moments when dressing up matters most to me.

i remember last sunday morning, the rain tapping against my window, my plans completely canceled. instead of staying in my pajamas (which would have been the "logical" choice), i put on my favorite satin slip dress, did my makeup, and even added a little hair bow. my sister thought i was crazy, but there was something so powerful about choosing to look pretty just for myself.

the truth is, when we dress up only for others, we're giving away a little piece of our magic. we're saying that our beauty, our effort, our aesthetic only matters when someone else can validate it. and i don't believe that's true at all.

when i put on a beautiful outfit just to read a book or make tea in my home, i'm nurturing the most important relationship in my life, the one with myself. it's like sending a little love letter to my soul that says, "you deserve pretty things even when no one is looking."

i keep a little list in my notes app of outfits that make me feel like the main character, and i've made it a personal rule not to "save" them only for special occasions. that silk blouse i love? perfect for a random wednesday. those pretty earrings i usually save for parties? they make doing laundry feel glamorous.

there's this beautiful ripple effect that happens when you start dressing up for yourself. you begin to curate other parts of your life with the same loving attention. your morning routine becomes more sacred. your space becomes more intentional. you start to ask yourself, "what would make this moment feel special to me?" rather than "what's the bare minimum i need right now?"

i've found myself buying flowers more often, lighting candles on random afternoons, using the "good" dishes for ordinary meals. dressing up for no reason has taught me that everyday life deserves celebration too.

Moving Forward with Sunshine in Hell and Sunny Day Jack

For the past several months I've been giving a lot of thought about Something's Wrong with Sunny Day Jack, the fandom, SnaccPop, and everything that's transpired as of late.

I'm still not comfortable discussing details about what happened. A lot of my friends were hurt and are still hurting. It's up to them to decide when or if they want to tell their stories. The part I played in things is minor in comparison, and I don't want to dig open painful wounds that are still trying to heal just to talk about my own experiences.

I will say though that it's been hard to enjoy the SWWSDJ game or fandom the same way I used to. The awful incidents and conflicts have left real scars behind, and I think anyone with a passing involvement in the fandom has noticed at least hints of them. It's created so much concern and reservation in a space that used to be so freeing for me.

Before anyone starts worrying, I'm not leaving the Something's Wrong with Sunny Day Jack fandom. You'll still see me pop up on occasion over here on tumblr, my bluesky, and even twitter if that damn ex-bird app doesn't delete whatever I post there. I still love interacting with other members of the fandom and encouraging them to keep on creating their art, stories, and such with my comments and reblogs. That's not changing any time soon.

Despite everything, this story and fandom still mean a lot to me. If I never chose to play that first demo way back when and took the plunge to be active in the fledgling fandom, I never would've come out of my shell as much as I have. I've grown so much these past 3 years, and I'll always be grateful for Something's Wrong with Sunny Day Jack, Sauce, and the fandom for giving me fertile ground in which to bloom.

But after everything that's happened, I think it's important to address how things have changed and where I personally will go from here when it comes to the story of Sunny Day Jack and Sunshine in Hell.

I know a lot of people come here to read my theories about the game. I've had a lot of fun combing over the small teasers we've gotten over the years and figuring out how they might connect with the overall story. I've made transcripts for the audio, analyzed artwork, and dug deep into the game's potential timeline of events.

But with all that's happened, including Sauce quitting and passing over the IP and the story of Something's Wrong with Sunny Day Jack to those still remaining at SnaccPop Studios, I don't think I feel comfortable discussing the game itself anymore, or using their/official artwork for the game in future posts. The same goes for DachaBo, the Groom of Gallagher Mansion, AphroDesia, and their other IP, as well what's going on with SnaccPop as a whole.

This isn't to tell people not to support SnaccPop or the game itself. Plenty of my friends have been a part of or worked with SnaccPop and still have close ties to people working there. Whether or not you support them and/or join their patreon is up to you to decide for yourself, and I highly encourage you to do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

I sincerely hope the best for everyone who has ever been or will ever be involved with SnaccPop. May you find joy and success in your creative endeavors and bring others even more joy.

This is all just to say that I, just like many others, need to take a step back from SnaccPop itself. This is for my own comfort and wellbeing. I will not be discussing any official games, audio dramas, announcements, or the like for the foreseeable future. That means I will not be making any new theories about the games.

If you want information as it relates to the game Something's Wrong with Sunny Day Jack or its related spinoffs from SnaccPop like Sleepy Time Jack, I urge you to look for it on their official pages for tumblr, bluesky, twitter, toybox, patreon, or anywhere else they have directly linked. From here on out, I'm going to focus all my headcanon rambles on just that - my headcanons. Jack, Ian, Shaun, Nick, and all the rest are still going to appear on this blog, but I will only be discussing my personal interpretations of these characters as they apply to Sunshine in Hell or any AUs I have derived from it, which may or may not align with the game's canon. I will not be referring to the game anymore, but instead focusing on the story it inspired that I have personally built on over the years.

Sunshine in Hell has been diverged from the game's canon for a long time now, and the differences in the characters and story have become more and more noticeable as time has gone on. Sunshine in Hell's Sunny Day Jack is very different from any demo's version of Sunny Day Jack, even if his initial roots and name remain the same. It is the same for all the characters, really.

That's one of the things I've loved about this fandom. We've all come up with our own versions of Jack and the other characters. Those of us who have been in the fandom a long time have built on our headcanons and they've grown to have their own distinct lore and quirks that make them unique and recognizable even when compared to someone else's version.

That's why I'm going to focus on my interpretation of Sunny Day Jack exclusively from here on out. I'll still throw out fun "what if" scenarios, alternate universes, and thoughts for generalized sunshines on occasion, but it'll always be through the lens of Sunshine in Hell's story and its characters, rather than the official game's continuity.

So while I'm distancing myself from painful drama for my own mental health and wellbeing, I'm going to continue to embrace the parts of the fandom that I love. My telling of Sunny Day Jack will live on in Sunshine in Hell, along with Alice and all the other characters I've been working on these past three years. I invite you to continue to read along with me as I continue to build on these characters and their stories and make them my own.

I encourage you to do the same. Embrace your own telling of stories you love. Uplift and encourage others to tell their stories too. Find what brings you joy and nurture it to grow into something bigger than the initial seed of an idea. Whether you find it in this fandom or another, I always encourage you to find your passion to create.

Fandom allows everyone the freedom to tell their own version of the stories they love. Sunshine in Hell is mine, and I am forever grateful that so many of you love it like I do. I hope you continue to enjoy it as well as all my other stories and rambling ideas.

The words you told Lucifer left him in pain.

They weren’t hateful, spiteful, or anything of that nature- but it still left him afflicted.

He came to the realization that he was in love with you.

It was hard for him to admit that the human that he once thought was a threat to his family and their home was someone that now brought him so much joy to his life. The times that he would loathe having to deal with you soon became moments that he would yearn for. You went from becoming his headache into his peace- and it gave him whiplash when he realized what he was felt for you.

Lucifer kept his calm persona when he approached you, his brothers already retiring to their respective rooms. His words came out smooth, yet he felt the excitement jolt down through his fingertips- he can’t remember the last time he’s felt this before with another person. He felt like a child, but he couldn’t find himself to care in the moment.

But the feeling began to wane when he noticed your smile.

It didn’t have the same shine that it usually would. And for once, you made Lucifer nervous.

You toyed with the fingers of your top, not making eye contact with him anymore, your soft tone becoming sympathetic. It felt like someone dumped ice water all over him, the chill soon replacing the warmth that was there before.

He’s not sure if his sin played a hand in it or not, but it never crossed his mind that you wouldn’t- didn’t feel the same way. The thought never crossed his mind. It was difficult to even comprehend it, becoming a harder pill to swallow as every second passed.

The bond created between you was on a level that Lucifer has never experienced before- and it pained him to see that it was only one-sided.

You tried your best to do it gently, to tell that you don’t see him in that way- he could appreciate the effort, but it hurt regardless. Nevertheless, his own waning smile was replaced with a business one, far from sincere.

It was comical really- Lucifer was the one left vulnerable and in anguish, yet he made sure to reassure you when you kept apologizing. You truly were a saint in his eyes, and it made the situation all the more painful.

Now he sat in his office, aged demonus in his glass- a special brand that he opens for special occasions, but is now pouring for comfort.

All Lucifer could do is let out a dry chuckle, swirling this glass around. But no matter how much he laughed, the pain in his chest still remained. He wanted to be selfish with you- your smiles, your laughs- he wanted to keep all of you to himself. And he was ready to give all of him to you-

But it was all for nothing.

He weren’t his, and he wasn’t yours, and it pained Lucifer to even think that. But it was the reality that he was to live in.

Even now, all Lucifer could think of was you, imagining the love that would have been solely his. His heart ached at the thoughts, and he felt his strength crumbling away. He made the decision to distance himself from you until the feelings went away, but in the moment, he doesn’t believe that it would be possible.

The soft music from his cursed records help drown out his growing sorrow, but it wouldn’t change that he mourning something that would never be his.

"Do you think we could've been friends?"

You think about the question you blurted out for a moment, recalling your past.

Your passion for your craft came as a discovery not influenced by those around you, but from your own enjoyment. The discouragement from others had almost guided you away from this path, letting their misunderstandings cloud your judgement. However, after countless nights of pondering whether your talents were enough to risk it all, you decided it was.

In a fit of impulsivity and a little bit of hope, you arrive at the front door of an artist your family occasionally commissioned. It was late at night but you hoped she'd be awake. When an older woman answers the door a couple of minutes after your timid knocking, you sigh in relief.

That night was the start of a long journey. One that had you secretly working on projects late at night. Ms. Bachira, the artist you've gotten familiar with, had taught you from afar. She believes that art is a concept intimate to solely the artist and their work; meaning it is an activity that inspires one's freedom in expressing themselves. With that in mind, art became a window into your mind and a mirror for your perception of everything around you.

Your works caught the attention of Ms. Bachira... and her son, Meguru, who was the same age as you.

In the bright mornings of summer, he'd see different unfinished pieces. Sometimes the same artwork would be seen for weeks, others would last a day. No matter the medium, he found himself attracted to it, staring intently before running out the door to play with his ball. He knew of you since his mother occasionally brought you up in conversation. However, Meguru didn't bother to try to meet you yet.

He didn't need to when he found you hunched over on a stool working on pottery.

The machine's whirring echoed in the room of the studio as he was left staring at you. You were working carefully, the sleeves of your crinkled shirt were rolled intensely to your shoulders. He concluded that if he tried to talk to you, he'd mess you up so with a small smile, he retreats to his room.

Often times you've heard your classmates call Meguru weird and you wondered why, especially when all he does is play football alone. You've seen him play in the backyard when you came to his house early enough. It was inspiring, really, and almost sad that he was playing by himself. The stories you'd hear of him from his mother were endearing and you couldn't understand how he, of all people, could be weird.

When you reached your half-finished painting, you scrap it and grabbed a new one. This feeling of lonliness overwhelms you but it wasn't yours. It was Meguru's. You tried to paint it, letting the brush guide your strokes and the colors bring to life both the joys and struggles Meguru might have. For the first time, you didn't sketch or brainstorm--- you feel. When you finished, pride swelled within you. In other occasions, you'd probably try to do the same piece again with less error but it was perfect even with its imperfections.

Months go by and the school semester has you busier than you imagined. Your escapades to the Bachira household were less frequent but you managed to keep creating wonderful artworks. On a free afternoon, you decided to attend one of your high school's football games with the purpose of getting quick gesutre drawings of the players. As embarrassing as it was, you find yourself staring at Meguru. The way he played was different than the other players, seemingly enjoying the game with a noticeable smile on his face. While the others struggled, he did not and you found the disconnect odd. You figured the team would be more in sync since they practice formations and other things similar to that. To satisfy your curiosity, you search for Meguru and find him dribbling the ball alone on the way home.

"Why'd you guys lose?"

He turned around to look at you before responding. He tilted his head with a grin after recognizing you. "Because they couldn't keep up with me." You gave him a look. "You could've went for the goal instead of passing, y'know." He put his hands up in a shrug and his smile turned into a small smirk. "But wouldn't it be more exciting to score a super goal than a normal one?" He swiftly lifts with his feet, doing some balancing acts with it. You huff through your nose. "Only if-" "-Someone could keep up with me! Right?" He interrupts you with a giggle. At first, you were annoyed but realized that maybe he did have a point. Compared to everyone else on the team, his movements on the field seemed second nature to him. It was spontaneous, much like his personality. In a way, the field was his canvas and his moves were his marks of paint. Together, they make something beautiful... and it reminded you of your experience with art. There was silence, save for the rhythm of the ball on his feet, until you spoke up.

"Do you think we could've been friends?"

You think about the question you blurted out for a moment, recalling your past. Meguru looks up to the sky in thought as well before giving you the brightest smile you've ever seen.

"Who says we aren't right now?"

A smile creeps up to your face. You laugh as you wonder why you didn't befriend such a wonderful person sooner.

I am howling at the sky for the look tonight that Harvey Guillén staked to death, spat on, and made it beg on the red carpet. Instead of just ranting to my queer fashion/fandom retail friends again, I took our collective slobber and tears to outline my plea to the fashion gods.

Why doesn’t this man have a ‘mens’wear line in every American mall? There is a gap in the market for adventurous, queer friendly suiting available through a retailer like Macys/J C Penney. Yes, retail is dying and wedding industry more so, but that’s particular to what’s available for consumers as well. Suiting is turned from off the rack into iconic by proper tailoring, but let me tell you from working all sides of the bridal salon, even up-scale clothing lines are getting rude as hell about quality and assembly to prevent tailoring and longevity.

This kid’s Disney charm would be perfect for introducing a plus size, inclusive line of fashion-forward pieces which include, say a QR code video about taking your own measurements, how adjustments work, with pieces designed to be sleek, with enough allowance for tailoring, and minding the lines in the garment to make the adjustments for plus size bodies easier. It’s no more adjustments than are made on straight size bodies, it’s just straight size bodies have more options to find a line which works with their natural shape.

But in my experience, it’s gender non-conforming folks and plus sized folks who get pushed out of finding pieces they can actually use for celebrations or work, much less pieces with actual personality that spark joy. This man has been killing it for years, really getting some clutch looks for events and invites in the fashion world. He’s showing proof of concept every time he steps in front of a camera.

Watching Harvey’s fashion evolution, I trust his fashion team and judgement to create a mid/high line for workwear to events suiting embracing a gender nonconforming audience. I can’t think of anyone better situated to become the ambassador of a brand with *the* formal wear for queer events and special occasions. I was tickled to see he sells his own merch and hope this experience convinces him of the joy working with artists and connecting their visions to a wanting public, dipping toes into the new ethical, sustainable trends in fashion. His looks alone shows he’s done his homework over the years about timelessness and early adopting trends.

For the years I worked selling/tailoring wedding dresses, there was the prophetic ‘someday… along will come the man who revives men’s fashion for events again’ to save the David’s bridal/men’s wear house lines who keep dropping plus sizes like mine and dying off. As the pet butch in the bridal salon I pleaded to the sky for better suiting options. Add that to my butch lezzy ways and trans masc circle of friends I legit spent this past Friday night drunk in a bar with a seam ripper adjusting jackets and darting pants in an unplanned sewing circle for a bachelorette until it was my round of karaoke. This isn’t the first time I’ve spontaneously started tailoring for the queers, I can’t keep up with the demand! Y’all we are in our twenties to mid thirties there should be better options than this that don’t require a vacation to LA/NY!!

It is indeed true: if Aranea's heart were to thaw because she fell in love - deeply, utterly, completely- with anyone, her contract with Mephisto would be considered done, she would lose all her powers and her soul would belong to Mephisto to do with it as it pleases him.

BUT.

What needs to be kept in mind is that Mephisto created this contract BEFORE he started to harbour any kind of romantic feelings for her, and verily, when he initiated his plan of charming and corrupting Aranea, he was partially motivated by that particular claus. Also, being the creator of the contract, he knew about every single possible loophole and whatnot present in it.

Now, with this in mind, we also need to remember that Aranea's heart was frozen and taken outside of her body of her own volition with the specific intent to mute every single emotion connected to love (think of it like Aranea having a thick transparent wall that cannot be penetrated in any way), so for Mephisto this rendered the whole challenge even more intriguing.

However, what Mephisto didn't take into account, when he started to pursue Aranea, was how deeply he would actually fall for her, how this whole challenge ended up becoming his most profound obsession: how immensely frustrated he was when he saw that nothing he did moved Aranea closer to him, how much he missed her whenever she went on her journeys to reap souls for him, how much he actually yearned for her; not just her body and their physical encounters: he missed her company, her mind, so similar to his own, her thoughts and her counsel and her sense of loyalty that he never experienced before.

One night, while she was asleep, Mephisto actually found himself pondering about her lack of response to his attempts to woo her, trying to find the actual source of the problem. And it was then that his attention found its way again to her whole heart situation.

Keeping her in his arms, close to him as he did each night where they joined as one, he realized that he couldn't feel her heart beating against his chest.

Nothingness dwelled there. And so long her frozen heart was outside her body, she could never feel anything again, and as his mind run through each section of his contract, he remembered that if she were to fall for him in the same way he had fallen for her, her heart would thaw and she would be lost to him.

And it was in that moment that he realized he could never be parted from her, ever, that she was his and that she had invaded his thoughts in a way so deep, he couldn't even wrap his head around it without getting an headache to be honest (it's a first for him, so he needed a few moments to process the realization).

And then, he had an epiphany and found a loophole inside his own contract.

The "bi river" trick was involving CyberCat, an old save editor software that allowed you to swap V presets! You had to launch the romance scene with River as a fem V, then save at the start of it using the "Save Anytime" mod, edit your save file by swapping in your Male V preset, and Voila~ you had a Masc V in the River scene :D
