Can we talk about how neat it was that The Lion Guard, a Disney Junior series, didn’t just skip over or write out the characters from The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, which in many ways was darker and more mature than the first Lion King film?
I mean. They just said “‘Oh, you want us to make a series about Simba’s never-before-seen son, even though there’s already a canon sequel where it seems like Kiara is an only child? And that sequel also includes elements of betrayal and prejudice, and assassinations? And that sequel ends with one young son’s death and a mother who attacks her own children and would rather die than forgive and forget? Challenge accepted.”
They COULD HAVE just sent the main characters away to the Tree of Life and never brought them back. They could have left it with the one episode we got during Kiara and Kion’s cubhood where the Guard encounters Zira. Just throw the fandom a bone and carry on with their children’s show targeting 8 year-olds. But no. They really went for it and tried to wrap everything up neatly. I respect the effort at problem-solving.

I doubt that DisneyToon Studios had this detail in mind when making the sequel but nonetheless I love this unintentional continuity and consider it canon

My backgrounds still need a lot of work, but this father-daughter duo is too cute to pass up!

My hot take on The Lion King 2 is they should have cut the romance subplot and kept Kovu as Scar's son and Kiara's cousin. (Or given Kiara a different love interest.)
The movie has all the underpinnings of a "Nature vs nurture: Can your genetics doom you to be evil?" plotline but with the changes to unincest Kiara x Kovu it instead becomes "Can an evil guy arbitrarily declaring you the winner of a Baby Scar lookalike contest make you mean?"

TLK: Breaking Traditions
"But, Queen Kiara..."
"I said no!" The golden lioness tried to contain her rage, but a growl managed to escape her throat. "My cubs have barely started going outside the cave, you are not deciding what they should be training on!"
"But it is time!" Replied the mandrill. "You and yer brother also start' yer training at dis age-"
"And our cubhood was robbed! I didn't have a say in the matter, not Kion. He was forced to be a soldier, I'm not repeating the same mistakes with my cubs".
Rafiki snorted. "It was not mistake. You were ready. Such is tradition. Such is da word of Da Lions of Da Past..."
Glaring at the old mjuzi, Kiara rolled her eyes. "I don't care what they say. I'm the Queen. This is my last word".
Something snapped on the mandrill.
"How dare ya disrespect da ancestors! It was yer grandfather Mufasa who decided you and Kovu were together in da first place!"
It was too late for Rafiki to realize what he has revealed. He only regretted it when he had the sharp teeth of the Queen next to his face.
"... What did you just say?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since The Roar is not a superpower in my lore, i needed to explain those "clouds" in the painting where Kovu explains what happened to Kion about the second movie. So those clouds are Mufasa blessing Kiara, although Rafiki hid something the deceased King only shared with him...
