DRAMA REVIEW | MOVING (2023)

In a time when we are suffering from an over-saturation of content and less than mediocre stories, particularly related to people with superpowers, South Korea has released MOVING and proved there's still hope for the genre.

Like its tittle the story is in constant move, not only pushing forward but going back to different timelines to give us context o our main characters and how the things happening in present time are a direct consequence to the past. Technically, MOVING is perfect. One of the strongest points is definitely the editing and this can be seen in the way the story jumps from one year to another but you never lose track of what's happening nor leaves you confused. There are gaps to fill but with other episodes that will give you answers. The score complements the actions and emotions of the characters to perfection.

The performances are top notch and it's not surprise considering this drama is stacked. If you have been watching korean dramas or films for a while, you will recognize even the most random character or one-episode-cameo it's performed by an award winning actor or actress. These people have a reputation for a reason and they deliver in every scene, with a look, a touch, a smile or a punch that will push you through a wall. For some characters in the drama literally speaking.

Zo In Sung hasn't starred in a drama since Dear My Friends (2016) and I am so glad this is his return to the tv format. In MOVING he delivered a nuance, charming and badass performance that in the hands of another would have fell flat. His character's entire existence it's what pushes most of the story forward: a person used as a weapon to kill but all he ever wanted was to live. The big mystery of the drama it's to find out what was his fate after he got separated from those he loves.

Ryoo Seung Ryong remains one of the most compelling actors of his generation, giving us the incredible story of a good man lost in life until he found his purpose and redemption. His storyline, full of gore and violence, was actually a tender love story about how far a man will go to protect his family. Marvelous.

Han Hyo Joo's character could have easily fallen into the Smurfette principle but no. She's an equal to the men who love her and those that want to kill her, with a very strong motivation to keep herself on the top of the game. This character's loneliness comes through every scene she's in, bottling everything up in order to be strong for her family but you can tell she's waiting for a chance to be free and, most importantly, for her son to be able to live freely.

Ko Yoon Jung, Lee Jeong Ha and Kim Do Hoon are really promising actors, particularly considering they hold their own while performance with so many household names. I think Kim Do Hoon and Kim Sun Kyun probably gave one of the most heartbreaking yet beautiful stories in the drama.

Like I mentioned before every single actor in this drama brought their A+ game face but I would be doing a disservice if I didn't mention Kim Hee Won, Cha Tae Hyun, Ryoo Seung Bum, Park Hee Soon, Yang Dong Geun, Jo Bok Rae, Park Kwang Jae, Kim Joong He and, of course, Kwak Sun Young. She in particular was SPECTACULAR.

None of these characters are one-dimensional, they are not defined by the label society wants to put on them. They are all joined together by the experiences, hardships, love, motivations and ambitions they share. At the end of the day, related or not by blood, they are a family. Even the so-called enemies.

MOVING it's absolutely worthy of the hype that surrounds it through all social media and news outlets putting in the category of one of 2023 best tv shows. I only regret I didn't have the time to watch it sooner so I could have add it to mine.

Harry Lloyd | @/theimpalpable for Corey Atwell, as Domenic Lachlan. A friend, a mentor of sorts, maybe? Left to his own devices with no one to lean on, meeting Domenic, a kind, warm, enthusiastic intellectual willing to experience the joys of discovery and knowledge with him is kind of like... discovering how vast the world is without being afraid of it.

Tom Holland | @/theimpalpable for Kaeden, as Wilder B. Summers. Wilder is perhaps everything to Kaeden, most definitely is. He's his best friend, his sweet cheese, his good-time boy, Kaeden would set the world on fire for him, and hopes to be worthy of his friendship one day.

Shin Sung-rok/SF9's Hwiyoung | @clemencetaught Blog-wide. Here's the thing. Patrick Grace, Shin Myungdae, I am a little obsessed with what Ferre is doing with this person. Every verse, every minute interaction I have with him, because I haven't even gotten to interact with him all that much (or as much as I'd like to, anyway, hehehehe~) follows me to the end of my days. With Eunjae, with Sarang, the plotting we're doing with Maria, smaller threads like the one with Seok-ju, he's incredible. All of Ferre's work around this person makes me gasp. I had to visit their notion because I did not for the life of me remember the FC's name, in typical Len fashion, I completely forgot that wasn't just... you know, Patrick. So yeah. If I see another Shin Sung-rok, in particular, anywhere else, I will think it's Patrick.

Hoang Quyen | @stillresolved for Samuel, as Mana Minh Huynh, on one hand because even while I write Samuel very rarely because he's a little more difficult to get muse for, Mana is already impacting him in ways I could have never hoped for to the point where I'm discovering things about him I had no idea were in him, on the other hand because I just? I can't... it's? I don't shout about Mana a lot because I feel almost undeserving, and inappropriate in treating her the way I would... stanning anime characters. She's... so much more, she makes me want to treat her in all the seriousness of ancient Greek philosophers. She's incredible. She's "The Only Hoang Quyen" to put it in a weird way (I'm collecting Ferre characters the way I collect Alex characters, BEST BELIEVE).

CONNECTIONS/MAINS

These are characters who I wouldn't claim mutual exclusivity with because I'm a too chicken and forgetful to ask, but they've become very vital connections to my muses and as such, while I'd never demand anything in turn, there is no pressure or obligation here to do the same with connections here as I do because I am Insane about y'all's characters, your muses are very dear to me and as such these here listed characters will at the very least most definitely be the first names associated with the listed faces.

Love stories spanning for centuries, stockfull of the most violently incredible details and facets, Aziz is such an incredible fucking character, the lore iS INSANE, and Nathaniel & Diana are both so stupid about him, so absolutely gone, so insane about him, can't really expect me to not add him here~

Nana Komatsu | @wellfell BLOGWIDE, as Mori Akina, let me count all the ways I would commit heinous crimes for Akina, I have been so obsessed with this woman even beyond having Karube interact with her in so many painful, sexy, incredible ways, amplified by the way Nassy writes to kill, I'm not even sure if I got the FC's name right because it's just Akina™. I would not recommend this drama to my friends. I would not rewatch this drama.

I love Manager No. Could use a father figure like him. I like the Hyun Joong Yoo Na love line. I love how outlandish some of Man Wol's outfits are at times. Wow IU looked great in that black dress when she invites Mi Ra to the hotel. I think Sanchez is a great guy. Sun Bi looking for the child while holding ice cream and calling out, "아가" is cute to me. I love the acting range in IU in the scene where she's like you could've pointed at any star and I wouldn't have corrected you. I love how much of a foodie Man Wol is. I enjoyed Kim Sunbi and Man Wol's last goodbye to each other. What a good last farewell look from Man Wol on the bridge.

Sign me up for the Hotel Del Luna after I die. You do not have to kiss someone to distract them. Can you imagine someone you know being a serial killer? What's it like to be in love with a ghost? What's it like to know that Yoo Na's lover is actually physically in love with the girl who killed her.

Seol Jiwon is a piece of trash. Can you imagine having a ghost like that live amongst us?

Having a Taeyeon song for an IU drama is so fitting. I know it's different, but the ending gives me the vibe of the ending in Moon Lovers. Omg. I really recognized Kim Soo Hyun before they even showed me his face. His outline was just him to me. Also, his cameos, just like in CLOY, always feels so random to me.

Omg Sulli. It's so sad to see someone sick of the full moon. I just met Veronica, but now I'm crying at her and Sanchez. Ms. Choi's death and the treatment of her daughter..I'm disgusted at everyone involved. I teared at Chansung's first cry at the bus stop. I'm almost crying but more than tearing at Chansung and Man Wol's last goodbye.

Lol at having a ghost speed dating. Lol the well deity coming in is like Spirited Away's kaonashi vibes.

Boys Over Flowers

No one ever forgets their first. For me, "Boys Over Flowers" was the first K-Drama I had ever watched.

I still don't know how I ended up watching this, but I know that I was surfing through Netflix in 2017 when I stumbled upon it. And man, what a ride it was.

As someone who grew up watching Bollywood movies with subtitles, watching a show where they spoke Korean was no big deal. I was able to follow along well enough.

According to Wikipedia, the show first aired in 2009, and it definitely shows. Many aspects of the show would not go over too well in current times. The whole bullying thing, the so called friend side story, Dan-di's parents just leaving her to fend for herself.... so many things to nitpick about. However, I guess for the time it came out, it didn't matter.

Despite all that, if you can accept the not really acceptable right now parts, the show itself is a gateway to K-dramas. It is the quintessential Korean Drama with all its typical troupe archetypes.

First, you have the rich and elite group of boys who rule the school. Everyone wants to be them and in their orbit, despite their not so kind reputations. Then you have the poor girl who doesn't put up with any of their crap, thus capturing the attention of the group's leader. It's a tale as old as time.

Not going to lie. Gu Jun-pyo is a walking red flag, and the way he weedles his way into Geym Jan-di's life should not be emulated at all. I will give the credit to the guy for slowly growing up and maturing, but still. The things done and said, holy Jesus.

Another thing this drama introduced me to was Second Lead Syndrome, or better refered to as SLS. Second Lead Syndrome (SLS) is when the second Lead male or female character is a better match for the leading male or female character. This show definitely had that in spades.

I still have no idea why Jan-di didn't just get with Yoon Ji-hu who was her support whenever anything got too much in her relationship with Jun-pyo and with other things going on in her life. Their relationship was based on trust and comfort, progressing as natural as breathing.

While I didn't particularly feel much disappointed in the ending, since Jun-pyo matured as the series progressed, I still kind of wished Ji-hu was the one that got together with Jan-di.

Overall, while the show wasn't perfect, it was still a decent enough watch once you get over the outdated parts. The filming aesthetic will bring late 2000s nostalgia on like whoa, and the characters grow on you, once you remember that these characters are still just high school students trying to discover themselves and learn through life's ups and downs.

Keeping that all in mind, my rating for this drama is a B. 😊

Review of film "Space Sweeper"

The film 'Space Sweepers', which was released on February 5 2021, has a science fiction genre, with a duration of 2 hours 16 minutes. This film, directed by Jo Sung Hee and starring Song Joong Ki, Kim Tae Ri, Jin Sun Kyu, and Yoo Hae Jin, presents computer graphic effects that are said to be worthy of being compared to Hollywood blockbuster films. Film Synopsis space sweepers Source: Strait Times Space Sweepers tells the story of a group of space cleaning troops, namely Kim Tae Ho (Song Joong Ki), Jang Hyun Suk or Captain Jang (Kim Tae Ri), Tiger Park (Jin Sun Kyu), and the robot Bubs (Yoo Hae Jin). Using a plane called Victory, they work to collect damaged planes and satellites that have become rubbish in space in order to survive. Set in 2092, the earth is no longer habitable so humans are trying to build a new civilization in outer space, specifically the planet Mars. However, the UTS Space Guards who are developing the new world are apparently looking for a robot in the form of a human child named Dorothy. This robot is called a dangerous time bomb and threatens the safety of human civilization. Captain Jang's team, which initially found Dorothy to be sold at a high price, turned out to know the fact that she was not a time bomb as UTS said. So, was Captain Jang's team successful in saving Dorothy?

And this is a little review from me for the film 'Space Sweepers'. Since Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri confirmed they would star in this film, I couldn't wait for it, considering that both of them are my favorite actors. Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri are known to be quite selective in choosing drama and film projects, so it is natural that their acting is highly anticipated. Even when I saw the trailer, I was stunned, it turns out that Korea can make Hollywood-class films!

My wait was worth it when I saw Space Sweepers which depicts the beauty of outer space so realistically. The battle scene between the Victory ship and the UTS Space Guards is so beautiful.

Regarding the acting of Song Joong Ki, Kim Tae Ri, Jin Sun Kyu, and Yoo Hae Jin, of course there is no need to doubt it because they are a number of top actors who are experienced. Plus the presence of child actor Park Ye Rin as Dorothy. In fact, thanks to the acting of this little actor, I myself felt sad seeing a small child as cute as Dorothy being targeted by the UTS Space Guards to be killed.

I think that's also what differentiates Korean and Hollywood films. Korean films always present a humanist side in the form of stories that seem simple, but are able to leave deep wounds on the audience. A little spoiler, this film ends with a happy ending. However, I actually felt less satisfied with an ending like this.

Honestly, I actually expected a more dramatic ending, like when Bruce Willis sacrificed himself to save the earth from an asteroid in the film Armageddon. Even so, I think Space Sweepers is a spectacle that must be watched, especially for those of you who like the science fiction genre. The duration of more than two hours will certainly not be felt when watching it.
