From this line and those two flashback images, we now know that Emilie and Gabriel weren’t together when Nathalie started to work for Gabriel, that Nathalie was already living in the Agreste house to help him in his research, and that Emilie possibly joined them later in their travels. 

It makes me think that maybe Gabriel and Nathalie actually had something going on back then. Nothing “official”, to avoid any possible scandals for Gabriel that could ruin his image, because “officially” Nathalie was Gabriel’s assistant and bodyguard, and their relationship could have reflected badly on the brand, but still some kind of romantic involvement. And when Emilie (presumably unaware of it), started to show an interest in Gabriel and he in her, Nathalie simply accepted it and stepped aside, putting their happiness above her own (keeping in line with her characterisation so far).

Or maybe they became “more than friends” after Emilie went into the coma... but I can’t see either Nathalie nor Gabriel starting something of that level when Emilie is still in the picture.

Or maybe Nathalie fell in love with Gabriel, but she said nothing and then realised he had fallen in love with Emilie and were never involved with each other romantically. But that wouldn’t explain the “and even more...” line. The line implies he was directly involved and reciprocated those feelings. Along with the line from the game (that has been confirmed to be canonical): “As a token of my gratitude and my… affection”. These two have history together and it happened before Emilie and Gabriel got together.

One thing’s for sure. We need a prequel.

Todoiida Headcanons

Note: Okay I know this is completely random since this page is mainly centered around Miraculous Ladybug and gabenath but for some reason I’m falling back into my old mha phase and I can’t stop thinking about these two idiots. So here’s some headcanons I guess…

Todoroki is always the little spoon when him and Iida are cuddling

Despite being the shorter and smaller one in the relationship, Todoroki is definitely the more dominant one, due to Iida being very professional and not wanting to break any rules or boundaries

Iida despises pda but Todoroki loves it and tries to see how far he can go before Iida gets annoyed

Iida is the only person Todoroki will allow to touch his scar

Iida always keeps a box of bandaids on him in case Todoroki gets a paper cut

Sometimes Todoroki will mess up Iida’s study notes just so he can see his exasperated yet affectionate reaction

Due to both their immense wealth they often go to movies and rent out the entire theatre for dates so it can be just them and the big screen

They like to read books together side by side or over each others shoulders and both share a love for literature and often borrow books from one another

Despite their vast differences in music taste, Iida and Todoroki both make playlists for each other

Whenever there is a school event or festival, Todoroki makes a point to win Iida some kind of prize even if it’s just something as simple as a plushie

Iida drags Todoroki to go on early morning runs with him, despite the fact that Todoroki is not a morning person, but he enjoys all the time they get to spend together

Todoroki and Iida shared their first kiss at the sports festival

In their more intimate moments sometimes Todoroki’s quirk spirals out of control all on its own, causing Todoroki to feel ashamed and embarrassed. Iida doesn’t mind though, in fact he is mesmerized and in awe of Todoroki’s quirk and abilities and loves to help him explore it

They both struggle with physical affection but they both do enjoy it immensely when they receive it from each other

Iida’s love language is gifts and Todoroki’s is words of affirmation

They love to go stargazing together, and Iida knows all the constellations and will point them out to Todoroki, which he finds both fascinating and cute

Despite his colder demeanor, Todoroki does enjoy messing with Iida from time to time just to get a rise out of him. He will do things like hide his glasses or switch their notebooks

Todoroki loves art and Iida will take him on dates to art galleries and museums. Iida could listen to Todoroki talk about art for hours because he loves seeing him happy

Iida was very very excited to introduce Todoroki to his family, especially to his older brother Tensei

Iida sometimes is harder on Todoroki when they’re in class, disciplining him more as class rep because he wants to see him do well and succeed. Todoroki pretends to be annoyed by this but a part of him secretly loves it

Miraculous movie review

Just watched the movie. Overall, I'm pretty mixed on it. There were some things I thought it did well and others I thought it was pretty poor at, especially with how the constraints of its runtime meant it couldn't build relationships as well. Ultimately, I prefer the show, though the movie definitely had some things going for it.

More details below the break, warning there will be SPOILERS below.

What I liked about the movie:

It had some really nice music and song sequences, they were my favorite part of the movie! I thought the singing was top-notch, and I loved the visuals they brought out for them, even if it was clearly non-diagetic most of the time. I adore musicals and sadly there haven't been enough of them lately.

The movie was more consistent with its tone and theming than the show usually is. Granted, that's a LOT easier to do in a single movie than in a show spanning 100+ episodes over seven years. They really leaned into the "Marinette has low self-confidence and just considers herself a useless mess who causes disasters all the time, so she needs to learn that she IS capable and heroic."

This movie BELONGED to Ladynoir, specifically with the song sequences with both of them, I adored them singing duets and dancing together.

ADRIEN GOT TO FIND OUT GABRIEL WAS HAWK MOTH AND REALLY REACT TO IT. Gabriel gave a genuine, heartfelt apology for everything, and gave up when he realized he'd been hurting his son. Since this version of Gabriel had only been avoiding Adrien out of grief and hadn't seemed to ever go out of his way to hurt him or subjugate him, Adrien forgiving him worked, I thought. This version of Gabriel jives nicely with most Gabenath fics I've read.

What I didn't like about the movie:

While I enjoyed the song sequences the most, they did feel kind of jarring with the rest of the movie, especially since Marinette and Adrien had different voice actors for the singing parts.

Adrien's and Marinette's relationship was barely developed in the Adrienette dynamic. I was actually surprised when Ladybug told Chat that her heart belonged to someone else, given that she'd only had like, two scenes with him as a civilian? And neither one was THAT meaningful. The library scene was nowhere NEAR the level of the umbrella scene.

This movie had beautiful music... for the singing parts. But then they tried to bring out the opening chords of "Careless Whisper" for some bits that were supposed to be romantic and... yeah no, that didn't work at all. It felt like a parody. The show uses its OST WAY better, especially "In The Rain".

While this movie emphasized the Ladynoir dynamic, it didn't actually work for me? It was nice to see them sparring, but I didn't like their actual interactions - mostly because of how Chat was portrayed.

Which leads to a point about Chat: he got done dirty here, with his over-the-top bravado getting to the point of arrogance and it even seeming like he was putting Ladybug down sometimes, with him calling her a "sidekick" several times (which Plagg joined in on for some reason) and a watermelon and while that seems to have been in order to show how his and Ladybug's relationship strengthened and became more playful over time, the shortened length of the movie didn't really allow that to be conveyed well. He was mostly just annoying, and it didn't feel like he actually got to do much in fights. We didn't get to follow him much so there wasn't much reason to get attached to Adrien, either.

Were the fart scenes with Plagg really necessary?

Overall I'm happy I watched it, but I wouldn't call it the definitive version of Miraculous by any means. For all its flaws and foibles, I far prefer the show, with the relationships and characters its built, and the creative, intelligent superhero fights it showcases. Just watched the movie wouldn't have gotten me into Miraculous's world, but the show entranced me after only two episodes.

I hate when people just mush characters's names together to have it as their ship name, so I, and two friends of mine, have come up with a couple unique names we think fit all the canon and semi-canon ships of miraculous. I'll also give my brief opinion on what I think of the ship, so be nice as my tastes might be different from yours, but with that out of the way, let's get started.

Name: Legally Blonde Ship: Chlodrien (Chloe x Adrien) Type: Het Opinion: I wished these two had a sibling dynamic towards the end of the show, but we can't have nice things

Magic is a finicky thing. 

The wish required a payment, and Nathalie gladly offered her life to save Emilie’s. Anything to make Adrien and Gabriel whole again. 

But there was a catch.

It feels like she’s stumbling through a fog of déjà vu these days; a blonde head far too close to Gabriel’s grey one, English vowels echoing through the hallways, him focused on his new collection with an intensity that looks drug-induced but that’s actually sparked by love.

And to think Nathalie had panicked at how things would work with Amelie having moved into the house with Félix while Gabriel was-

Well.

Dead.

Not that that feels real now.

And anyway despite every single bit of their history indicating otherwise apparently Amélie and Gabriel get on fine now. More than fine. It’s Nathalie who feels like the third wheel, as if she’s suddenly been thrust back in time to that trip to Tibet.

It doesn’t feel any better than it did then.

No, actually it feels worse.

She’d got used to this being her home, to Adrien being her responsibility even with Gabriel around and then despite whatever the law might have said about his aunt being his guardian because Amélie’s accommodating flightiness was only slightly better than Gabriel’s controlling neglect when it came to actually raising a teenager rather than being their friend.

But now Gabriel’s back and focused on mending his relationship with his son and after a series of arguments that had shook the house he and Amélie seem to have agreed on some sort of parenting style in between their different inclinations to use on the boys and Nathalie begrudgingly has to admit that it doesn’t seem bad.

So Adrien hardly needs her, and Gabriel doesn’t need her, and Amélie never really needed her except for logistics but she doesn’t either.

And Gabriel and Amélie are getting closer and closer and closer and after all isn’t Amélie exactly Gabriel’s type down to every cell in her body?

It would certainly makes the bedroom situation easier if they shared one, but then again it would make it easier if Nathalie no longer lived here either and she’s growing increasingly unsure why she does.

“Good morning,” the clipped tones almost make her drop her coffee mug, she’ll never get over how Félix sounds exactly like Adrien apart from the accent.

“Good morning,” she turns to face those green eyes that always seem venomous in some way to her on his face, like then never have on Adrien’s, “did you need anything?”

The Agrestes might care for her even if they don’t need her, and his mother might not have any feelings either way but Félix despises her. Understandable given what he is and what she’s done but she knows the only reason he hasn’t thrown a tantrum to get his mother to cast her out on the street is because he deems her necessary for Adrien’s emotional wellbeing.

And maybe that he doesn’t want to share his mother.

Though she thinks he’s going to be rather out of luck there.

“I need you to talk to my Uncle and put him out of his misery.”

“I’m sorry?”

“I found him crying on my mother’s shoulder last night. Do you understand how disgusting that is? He’s willing to kill me and he’s taking advantage of her kindness because she doesn’t know that.”

“I understand that you’re not happy about it Félix but I’m not sure what you expect me to do about it.”

He groans, and slaps himself in the face, “you are worse than Adrien I swear. I’m asking you to go back to doing whatever you used to do for him, so he’ll stop moping and going to my mother instead.”

Oh. Oh. Just as if her day couldn’t get any better. “I think there’s a misunderstanding. Gabriel and I were ne-“

“I.” He interrupts her, “do. Not. Care. I am asking you to fix it. And by the way if you don’t like rubies you should probably say something before he finalises that necklace Mummy’s been helping him design for you.”

“I- What?”

“That,” the voice of the man she least wanted to hear this conversation comes from the doorway, “was meant to be a surprise Félix. Which was why it was meant to be a secret from you as well. But not letting me have secrets seems to be a bad habit of yours, doesn’t it?”

The boy gives a careless shrug, “I like living and being free. I won’t apologise for caring about your privacy less than that. Anyway, you should just tell Nathalie the truth about how you feel about her. That’s what Kagami says.”

“Great. I’m gossip fodder for teenagers.” Gabriel groans.

“We can shut it down,” professional assistant Nathalie says, even as still-has-feelings-for-him Nathalie wants to die, “I know what you don’t-”

“Then you know wrong.” He says.

“What?”

“I was going to ask you this with a gift but since my nephew has apparently decided to spoil everything- Nathalie Sancoeur, will you go on a date with me?”

Hmm... that is an interesting question

To be honest, my goldfish-ish brain only has the capacity for so many ships at once, so more often than not I am only focused on 1-2 ships from a particular show

Truth be told, it is miraculous (hahaha... pun not intended) that I can focus on all four sides of the lovesquare + whatever other shipping shenanigans are going on...

This all being said, I haven't really devoted all that much time to ponder my feelings on gabenath...

I can see why a lot of people like the ship, and honestly for a while it looked like the show was heading that way... but something about the ship feels kinda toxic to me...

Now I know... I KNOW... that people will ship regardless of toxicity, unhealthy boundaries, etc. and if you enjoy that in your ships that is your prerogative and right, and even I enjoy ships with that kind of vibe sometimes

This is all to say that while Gabenath isn't my cup of tea, I have absolutely nothing against the ship's existence and I totally understand people's support of it

new daydream involves like… emilie and gabriel finding the peacock miraculous and emilie going “okay let’s practice a bit” while they’re still camping and starting with like tiny little creatures and stuff, making them do things and then snapping them out of existence,, and then emilie gets ambitious and decides to try to make a human and makes nathalie,, and has a lot of fun telling her what to do but also seeing what she does when not receiving specific orders.

emilie figures out that they can convince her to have fake memories if she tells her to “remember” anything. she can also tell her to read a book and memorize everything in it and she will do it, so nathalie proves to be very useful during their return because the information they were carrying is way easier to access by just asking nathalie instead of looking through maps and books and notes and so on.

once they’re back in some populated place gabriel tells emilie that it’s time to stop playing and get rid of nathalie but of course… emilie has grown attached to her. and gabriel also feels really weird about snapping nathalie out of existence, because she seems so human, but tries to hide it and convince both himself and emilie that they can’t just. keep her around. because it makes no practical sense.

but emilie convinces him somehow that they should take her with them and pretend they met her during the trip and to get her a job with gabriel and so on. and gabriel tries to refuse but he can’t. and he can deny that nathalie has been a very helpful assistant during the trip. and they both know it’s… kind of wrong but it feels more wrong to just make her disappear.

so anyway they take pictures and make nathalie believe that she has been helping them the whole time and for nathalie it’s kind of like. when you’re in a dream or when you have memories blocked by trauma, where you’re not quite sure how you got to a place/situation but you don’t question it and as long as you don’t examine your memories closely you won’t notice the gap that’s there.

emilie is the one that has nathalie’s amok the whole time but doesn’t really order nathalie around after the journey back from tibet. but at some point gabriel tells her to do something and she does it with the same disposition as with emilie’s instructions. gabriel looks at emilie a bit confused but emilie says that she didn’t tell nathalie to do what he says, and she jokes that nathalie must just like him. (spoiler: she does 🥰)

and um. once in paris, as a boss, gabriel just does the same thing and asks nathalie to read information and remember everything, which is super useful for her job. since from the start they went with the “convince her she’s just another human” approach and they just can’t go back on that so they have to continue the lie and try not to ask too ridiculous things of her.

i guess they get on with their lives normally until emilie dies. or rather around when gabriel decides to become hawkmoth. because nathalie will know inevitably, so he takes the amok from where emilie had hidden it and carries it as a safety measure in case nathalie betrays him. which she doesn’t. so he pretty much forgets about it. until the end when he’s also lost restraint with giving adrien orders and he knows that nathalie doesn’t trust him anymore.

when she’s threatening him with the crossbow he says that he knew she would betray him and he prepared. he doesn’t even need to slap the weapon away like he does in the show, instead he just pulls out whatever object had the amok and tells her to put the crossbow down, and she does. so she panics about not being able to disobey and that’s when she passes out and once they’re in her bedroom he tells her the truth and it’s so shocking and

i guess he just tosses the object at her like “you can have it now, i don’t need it anymore” and just leaves her there with her entire world shattered.

and uh. you know. i like the idea

Congrats MLB S5…you have become the 💩 show I always knew you could be.

Rant 1: the emilie/Gabriel backstory is adorable

Rant 2: Nathalie vs Gabriel? We alllll knew it was coming, but my goodness it ripped my heart out. I hope there’s a time reversal or some kind of multiverse where gabenath could have been a thing. I just can’t accept gabriel is gone for good, especially the way they portrayed his “death”.

Rant 3: the way they COMPLETELY excluded Adrien from determining his own happiness and discovering his father’s failures is so inexcusable. It’s his bloody life that is controlled by the rings! Geez.

Rant 4: Adrien is fatherless which is never ideal. I have a feeling this is not going to end well for him. The writers could have written a redemption arc for Gabriel, but instead they pushed him to be a complete monster which goes against the conflicted villain he was in S1-4. Locking adrien away? Holy freakamoly :(

Overall, the finale is very well written, but ethically I see some flaws.
