Ok so I (m20-50ish) am a minor lord of Youmakai and the only living descendant of my clan, I receive little to no respect from other politicians and noble families due to being a han’yo (half human and half yokai) so that’s already not ideal.

However, things had gotten worse under the most recent ‘Great King Enma’ (m20-50ish) to ascend the throne, and his policy to destroy all yokai watches and separate the human world from youmakai, after actively taking a stance towards unification. Again, being a han’yo, not fucking ideal.

Obviously, I wasn’t having any of this, and already having beef with the guy I started a rebellion to overthrow the King and make some kind of effort to rekindle human and yokai relationships. And it succeeded, though most of the major lords still didn’t approve of me, which in all honesty I expected.

Here’s the part that makes me an asshole, I think. The former king managed to break out of prison, right? So I fought him and make sure he didn’t start anything… until I found out why he broke out, which was to solve some giant crises and help some human kids. We wound up coming together to solve the crisis, we fused, and then after the fact he let me stay in power.

He’s actually a really nice guy, so now I almost feel guilty for trying to overthrow him and lock him up, but I still stand by my ideology that the whole schism never should have happened in the first place, though it seems like that’s not a problem anymore, what with a handful of new yokai watches being discovered during the incident.

So, am I the asshole?

Roboticized Sonic x Yo Kai reader

• Bernadette almost didn’t want to believe that her son, her child was now a robot. But she accepted it, it happened to her husband now her son.

•Sonic didn’t want to believe it either but it happened so suddenly, he did get over it considering he’s still alive and feels he should be greatful

•Jules and Shard help him get used to the whole robot thing and he’s set.

•His friends do help to and try to understand what he’s going through.

•Tails feels the most guilty due to it being his decision to make sonic a robot even if everyone tells him otherwise.

•Now Getting stuck in Terror Time with Gargaros was not in the bonding schedule.

•Sonic, Jules, Bernadette, Chuck, and Shard do try to fight Gargaros but their attacks seem to do nothing so they take their chances and run.

•This is where you and you’re best friend Venoct come in.

•There was literally no time to explain as you told Venoct to take them back to HQ, His dragon like scarf securing them as he ran.

•At HQ there was a bunch of Yo-Kai running around and at the center of of it was King Enma.

•Venoct filled him in with you and Gargaros and he greets them.

•The topic of you came up and Enma just bragged on and on about how your his kid and how amazing you are then he pulls out the photo album.

•A few pages later you burst in flaming sword like your fathers and when you see that dreaded book you just sink to the floor.

•You just stay there as Enma just shows the fam the rest of the photo album as Venoct tries to comfort you.

•Sonic honestly can’t help but find it cute as a jolt of electricity zips through him.

Was anyone else disappointed when they cut out some of fuu2 and yuto’s section from the spanish dub?

I know they had to cut it cause it is a show for children but the section was supposed to show how yuto could still aspire to be a manga artist and fuu2 was supposed to show that he cared for his friends mental health. Then again that’s just my thoughts.

What if the good guys were the bad guys and the bad guys were the good guys?

Lore:

The yokai world used to be run by the tyrannical Enmas, the ironfist ruling family. However, when Ancient Enma died, the Enmas were finally pushed out. Rinne became the new king, and the yokai world welcomed their new ruler with open arms. He was benevolent, he promised peaceful coexistence with humans, and he would surely lead the yokai world into an era of peace- except, within nearly a decade, the Enmas make a comeback. They start with reclaiming a smaller territory, and it’s only a matter of time before they reclaim the whole yokai world again…

Some people don’t swap and largely keep their role, just with some changes to their story. For example, Mckracken still rules a small territory of the yokai world and has his followers. Nate, Whisper, and Jibanyan are also about the same.

Characters:

*note about names, there's English and Japanese. Some characters don't have an English name, and I couldn't come up with a good one, so their new names remained Japanese. If y'all have suggestions for English names then be my guest.

Rinne lost his childhood friend to the Enmas, and he swore he’d oust them one day. When Ancient Enma died, he took the chance to do just that, and now he rules the yokai world. He’s doing his best to bring the world of humans and yokai coexisting that his friend wanted, but he’s also making sure the Enmas don’t reclaim power.

Stormy Venoct/ Susanoo Orochi (Goku Orochi) used to be a feared assasin, but Rinne redeemed him, so now he’s an elite servant of Rinne. He retains a scary appearance due to being unable to remove the chains Ancient Enma put on him, but he’s still popular nonetheless.

Jizou (King Enma) was meant to be the next king, but he lost the chance when his grandfather died and his family was run out. Now, for the sake of his family, he’s trying to restore their former glory. He’s not necessarily evil, but he’s under a lot of pressure to protect & uplift his family. If he ever succeeds in becoming king, he genuinely wants to do better than his predecessors.

The Serpent (Venoct) earned his name after terrorizing countless human villages, catching the attention of Ancient Enma for his strength and power. Until Ancient Enma’s death, Serpent served him with unquestionable loyalty and meted out every ruthless task asked of him. His final task was to take Lucas and kill him, because Ancient Enma believed Lucas was too weak to survive the chaos that would follow his death. Although Serpent agreed that Lucas is weak, he couldn’t bring himself to follow through because Lucas is what’s left of his master. In the end, Serpent erased Lucas’s memories, made him believe he’s human, and ended up raising him in Springdale. Serpent has very complicated feelings about Lucas, and while he knows he cares about him to some degree, he's not quite sure how to treat him.

Black Icicla/ Kuraokami Fubuki-hime (Goku Fubuki-hime) runs an ice-cream parlor with her (not cursed!) little brother in Springdale. The ice-cream parlor is a front so she and her brother can monitor the watch-holder under Rinne's orders, but they're having too much fun pretending to live a cozy life as humans.

Hachiman Bushinyan (Goku Bushinyan)

Smartle/ Omoikane Namahage (Goku Namahage) is a teacher at Springdale elementary to monitor the watch-holder under Rinne’s orders.

Fortunoko/ Ebisu Tsuchinoko (Goku Tsuchinoko)

Mckracken had ambitions to rule the yokai world, but Rinne did it first. However, Rinne gave Mckracken a small territory to satisfy his ambition and keep him from opposing him. Rinne would still keep him in check, and at first, it pissed him off that he wasn’t the “true” ruler. However, he noticed that, “shockingly”, yokai in his territory praised him when he did things they liked, and they liked him more than Rinne. He realized that with how new and unstable Rinne’s rule is, he could use his territory to abuse cracks in the system and take over as the true ruler. With this in mind, Mckracken ruled his territory as benevolent as possible in order to foster loyalty in his subjects, waiting till’ the day the whole yokai world was his. Ofc, the Enma’s had the same realization as Mckracken, so they took the territory from him.

Yokai Watch (game 1):

Nate/Katie is a regular human kid who suddenly gains the ability to see yokai! Oh joy! Summer just got interesting for them, and they’re having fun until they discover a conspiracy about the yokai world. A false king has taken over the yokai world, and it’s up to them to help restore the rightful ruler, Enma. Who doesn’t want a chance to save the world? So they go to the yokai world, fight off the false king, and everything is fine and dandy! Right? Wrong. They were lied to. The false king was a good ruler, but Nate/Katie just helped restore the yokai world’s imperialistic, ironfist royalty. Now, seeing yokai isn’t so fun anymore. Because of them, their world won’t be safe. To make things right, they join forces with the “false” king to make seals and close the barrier between worlds. Nate/Katie regrets what happened, so for the rest of the summer, they try to forget what happened and act “normal.” When the barrier opens again and their yokai friends go to see them, Nate/Katie wants nothing to do with them. They doomed their world, they don’t deserve to be their friend. Whisper lets them know that they hadn’t doomed the whole yokai world, it was a small territory that Enma took over. All of their yokai friends know Nate/Katie is a child and didn’t know better. It takes a while, but eventually Nate/Katie feels good enough to be with their friends again.

Yokai Watch 2:

Although Rinne knows Nate/Katie is just a child who didn’t know better, their part in giving the Enma’s a foot into ruling the yokai world again is too big to ignore. Rinne enlists Dame Deartime to make it so Nate/Katie never gets the yokai watch, but that ends up useless because Master Nyada gives it back to them. Upon regaining the yokai watch and their memories, Nate/Katie is determined to not let the events of game 1 happen again. However, it’s really hard, because the timeline is trying to correct itself by compelling Nate/Katie to repeat events. Nate/Katie ends up in the past and discovers that their Grandfather made the watch. Although it’s a cool discovery, they consider thwarting the creation of the watch so they can never endanger the yokai world. They don’t do it because they still want to see their friends. The Bony vs Fleshy donut war still happens, but this time the donut premise isn’t as stupid, because if Arachnus and Toadal Dude don’t present something Ancient Enma likes, they will be punished. Dame Deartime’s subordinates infiltrate both sides in an attempt to stop the fighting and convince them to rise up against the tyrant rather than arguing in fear, because Dame Deartime saw that an Enma-free future is possible, but they aren’t listened to. At that point Nate/Katie’s presence is noticed, so they get sent back to their time… but something’s off. Although everything seems normal, things are displaced out of time. Believing it to be related to the past, Nate/Katie goes back in time and fights Dame Deartime, who’s apologetic to them. Dame Deartime reveals that the world won’t be safe until time is set right, so everything that happened in the original timeline has to happen again. She’s sorry that Nate/Katie is saddled with a heavy role as a child, but Nate/Katie promises that they will make the future as good as it can be. They return to their own time, preparing for what they must do.

I haven't finished Yokai Watch 3 and don't know the plot of 4, so I can't include those here.

Enma tournament:

Rinne hosts a Yokai World Martial Arts Tournament, but it’s hijacked by the Jizou, who renames the tournament in his family’s name. Jizou announces that his subordinates will be entering the tournament, and if any of them win, the Serpent will kill Rinne. It’s a great risk, but Rinne isn’t sure if rejecting this offer is also worth the risk, so he accepts. The tournament is very tense, and it seems like the Serpent is about to win, but Nate/Katie joins at the last second to fight for the yokai world. They win.

Am I the only one who thinks that Kouen (Enma)‘s treatment in the second movie was quite messed up ?

I mean- The kid was assigned as king but his second in command legit locked him up and asked him for resignation because he thought that he wasn’t worthy of his title. I know that kouen could easily escaped from it but you can’t deny that it’s not fucked up.

And ngl, Zazel feels like a character that can’t cope with the loss of his previous lord.

Absolutely not ! You're not the only one, I also think Kouen's treatment was just... absolutely messed up in the second movie ! Not only was he completely mistreated, but Zazel also made it ten times worse...

There's a lot to talk about as far as they are concerned, but I tried to keep it as short as I could ! I apologize in advance for any mistakes or if it is overdevelopped ! Also don't hesitate to send me any other questions about Yokai Watch !

I feel like the end of the second movie does not answer the issue their story wanted to tackle.

The whole point was to help Zazel moving on from his trauma of losing Ancient Enma from very probably a disease (which is even more cruel considering it must have been killing him since numerous years), and finaly enabling him to move on and accepting Koen as the new ruler of the Yomakai. Sadly, instead of actually showing us that even if he appears as evil, he remains a father figure deeply caring for Koen, a litteral child ! By admitting his faults and showing affection towards him... they prefered to show us that in the attitude of Koen, Zazel still saw Ancient Enma in him, as shown below.

Which is totaly the opposite of what the meaning of this story was supposed to be ! By this action, Zazel doesn't only shows us that he still is not ready to move on, but even worse ! He is still trying to cling to the last remainings of his beloved king that he sees through Enma.

Which would also explain a lot of things about him. For example, why he chose a sickness over every other ways to restrain Koen without it appearing suspiscious. The same sickness that took away Ancient Enma. Another example would be how he quite litteraly locks up Enma in his own palace to make him fill up paperwork. And apart from his obvious hatred of humans, it could also be interpreted as a desperate need for control. To be able to protect at all cost the "New body of Ancient Enma", while shape-shifting it to his heart's content in order to make him act exactly like his predecessor.

And obviously, such an unhealthy relationship couldn't bring any good to a young and manipulable child such as Koen.

Firstly, he was assigned as king in his early childhood, very probably because of the chaotic situation surrounding the aftermath of his birth, as seen in Forever Friends, which burdened him with way too much responsabilities and duties.

This very probably is an element explaining his quite rebellious personality, especially towards authority.

But as if it wasn't enough to mess him up, he could not even be comforted and guided by his only parental figure left after Ancient Enma passed away ! No wonder he purposefully stayed trapped by Nurari to beat him right after with absolute rage. He simply doesn't know how to respond to stress and his emotions in general other than through anger.

Furthermore, he could not even express his personality, as Zazel would not give him any chance. This could also be the answer as to why he runs away to the human realm so often in order to finally express himself. All he did was trying his best to keep up with all the standards he had set up for himself, while begging for guidance, and acting like the child he is.

I'm watching the Y-academy movie, and what's with yokai watch reboots being obsessed with action? Shadowside did the same thing and I don't get it why they keep up the trend; one of the things I loved about the original series was its *subversion* of typical monster battle series, that Nate called someone and asked them to help and they were like "lol I don't have to listen to you". I don't understand why level 5 decided to do away with that in the reboots. Jinpei and Koma are charming enough, but who knows what they might do with them in the subsequent episode series -_-' The new token normal guy sucks (he wishes he was anything like Nate lol) and the problem with boring girls is still very much a problem. I wish girl Enma was still a cocky little shit tbh, I really loved him in the og series and his girl version is really underwhelming. It's interesting that the old king Enma is alive here though! What's your interpretation of King Enma's relationship with his grandson?

Yeah, it’s kind of a point that Yokai Watch that it wasn’t a straight up action story, it was more about befriending spirits and such. Making it an action thing makes it lose a bit of its edge.

The normal guy being bland is funny if it wasn’t so sad, and well... I can’t say I’m shocked, but I’m still dissapointed. Like, you do that and you still make it uninteresting? Laaaame...

As for the old King and current Enma? The two never met in person, but the current Enma’s been taught a lot about the old King from his trusted friend Zazzle, so :)

Yokai Watch 4 ++ Translation

This will contain major story spoilers for Yo-kai Watch 4, specifically part of its main story and the recent ++ (Pura Pura) update, so proceed with caution.

With that being said, this will be a translation of certain new additions to the lore of Enma's family.

For a bit of context, this translation will cover optional dialogue that can be seen after befriending Shien.

Shien has a chance of being befriended when you beat him during the Busters Mission "日の影に眠り魔王" ("The Demon King Sleeping in the Shadow of the Sun".)

During the scene in which Shien is befriended, it's explained that the reason why he can exist seperately from Enma is that this Shien is actually the "evil heart" of the original Shien, while Enma was born from the "good heart".

After you've befriended Shien, you can find Enma in the new area Hell's Kitchen, located in the Yōmakai (Yo-kai World) of the past.

The dialogue I've translated occurs if you talk to him.

Talking to Enma at Hell's Kitchen:

Enma: あっ 妖怪探偵団じゃないか。 ん？ なんでこんなトコにいるのかって？ Oh hey, it's the Yōkai Detective Team. Hm? What am I doing here, you ask?

Enma: オレもお前たちがバスターズを始めたっていう 釜ゆで地獄ってのを 見てみたくなってな。 I wanted to look around Hell's Kitchen too, just like you got the Busters to do. (1)

Enma: …ははっ 本当は 礼を言いにきたのさ。 『もうひとつの心』を開放してくれた お前たちに。 ...Haha, I actually came to thank you guys. For freeing the "other heart".

Enma: そしてお前たちには 伝えておきたいんだ。 オレたち 閻魔の一族についてな…。 And there's something I want to tell you. About us, the Enma clan...

Enma: まずは オレと 『紫炎』の真実について話そうか。 ちょっとばかり長くなるが 聞いてもらえるか？ First I gotta tell you the truth about me and "Shien". This might be a bit long, but will you listen?

Dialogue Option: 『紫炎』について 話を聞きたい！ I want to know about "Shien"!

Enma: 紫炎は… お前たちも知っての通り かつて この時代で敗れ 空亡に取り込まれた。 As you already know... Shien was once defeated in this era, and consumed by Soranaki.

Enma: 実は そのときに… 紫炎の心は『２つ』に分かれたんだ。 And actually, at that moment... Shien's heart was split into two.

Enma: そのひとつ… 紫炎の『良き心』は イツキと融合し 夜叉エンマとなり… 王としての本当の強さを知った。 One of those... Shien's "good heart", fused with Itsuki and became Yasha Enma... now knowing the true strength of a king.

Enma: そう お前たち妖怪探偵団のおかげでな。 その後 オレはこうして 生まれ変わることができた。 Yes, that was thanks to your Yōkai Detective Team. After that, I was reincarnated like this.

Enma: そして オレは閻魔大王の孫として育てられた。 煌めく炎を宿す者… 『煌炎』という名を与えられて。 And I was raised as the Great King Enma's grandson. I was given the name "Kōen"... one who harbours a sparkling flame. (2)

Enma: 一方 もうひとつの… 紫炎の『悪しき心』は 別の生まれ変わりの輪に 取り込まれたんだ。 Meanwhile, the other one... Shien's "evil heart", got taken into a seperate cycle of reincarnation.

Enma: だが 紫炎の存在は 『影歴史』という禁呪で 永らく封じられ その魂も眠りつづけていた。 But Shien's existence was sealed away for a long time, by a hex called "Shadow History", so this soul has been sleeping, too. (3)

Enma: その 眠りし紫炎の魂がよみがえり 地獄をさまよい… こうして お前たちが救ってくれたのさ。 That sleeping soul of Shien was revived, and wandered through hell... And then it was saved by you guys.

Enma: とはいえ… まさか紫炎の『悪しき心』すら 『ともだち』にするなんてな。 Though... I can't believe you actually became "friends" with Shien's "evil heart".

Enma: フッ… さすがは オレやカイラが見込んだ 伝説のウォッチ使いってワケだ。 Heh... That sorta thing is why me and Kaira put our trust in you legendary Watch users.

Translation Notes:

The Busters are known as the Blasters in the English localizations.

The name 煌炎/Kōen is made of the kanji  煌, meaning “sparkling”, and 炎, meaning “flame”. So its meaning is more obvious in Japanese.

For the purpose of this translation, I translated “Shadow History” literally, but since it’s a proper name, one could arguably leave it untranslated, if one so chooses. For the reference, its Japanese name is read as 影歴史/Kagerekishi.

Enma: 妖怪探偵団のおかげで 紫炎の魂は救われた。 お前たちには 伝えておかなきゃいけないことがある。 Thanks to your Yōkai Detective Team, Shien's soul was saved. There is something I need to tell you.

Enma: 紫炎と オレたち閻魔の一族についての真実…。 長くなるかもしれないが 聞いてもらえるか？ The truth about Shien and us, the Enma clan... This could be long, but will you listen anyway?

Dialogue Option: 『影歴史』って いったい何…？ What exactly does "Shadow History" mean...?

Enma: 閻魔一族 ミカド族には いくつかの秘術がある。 『影歴史』とは その秘術のひとつだ。 The Enma clan, so, the Mikado Tribe, knows several secret arts. "Shadow History" is one of those.

Enma: 『影歴史』の術は 唱えられた者の存在を 妖怪たちの あらゆる歴史と記憶から消し去る禁呪…。 The art of "Shadow History" is a hex which erases the existence of the one it's used on from all history and memory of the yōkai.

Enma: いわば 歴史の『シャドウサイド』に封じ込めて 「なかったことにする」っていう とんでもない術さ。 I guess you could say that it seals away the "shadowside" of history, and "makes it so it never happened". It's one heck of a technique.

Enma: ミカド族でありながら 大罪を犯した紫炎は… この『影歴史』で 一度存在を消されていたんだ。 While he is of the Mikado Tribe, Shien commited a grave sin... So his existence was once erased by "Shadow History".

Enma: 実は この秘術によって オレやぬらりさえも 紫炎の存在を 完全に忘れちまってたのさ。 Actually, because of that secret art, even me and Nurari had completely forgotten about Shien's existence. (1)

Enma: だが… あの空亡が 歴史を改変しようと企み お前たちがそれを止め… 歴史はさらに変わった。 But... when Soranaki tried to alter history, and was stopped by you guys... history changed again.

Enma: 妖怪探偵団のおかげで 紫炎の魂は救われた。 お前たちには 伝えておかなきゃいけないことがある。 Thanks to your Yōkai Detective Team, Shien's soul was saved. There is something I need to tell you.

Enma: 紫炎と オレたち閻魔の一族についての真実…。 長くなるかもしれないが 聞いてもらえるか？ The truth about Shien and us, the Enma clan... This could be long, but will you listen anyway?

Dialogue Option: 『閻魔の子』の 秘密が知りたい… I want to know the secret about the "Children of Enma"...

Enma: ミカド族の血を引く者… 『閻魔の子』たちは ちょっと 複雑な事情をかかえてることが多くてな。 There's lots of sorta complicated things about the "Children of Enma"... descendants of the Mikado Tribe.

Enma: ほら オレも じいちゃんの実の孫じゃないだろ？ お前たちと 一部の妖怪のみが知ってる話だけどな。 See, I'm not even really Grandpa's grandson, right? Though only you guys and a few yōkai know about that.

Enma: そして オレが閻魔の後継者とされ 数十年経った頃… オレの他に 閻魔の血を継ぐ子が生まれてな。 And some decades later, during the time when I was the Enma successor, another child who carries the blood of Enma was born.

Enma: だが… オレの弟ともいえる そいつの魂には… 紫炎の『もうひとつの心』が宿っていたんだ。 I suppose you could call him my little brother... But his soul... it harbored Shien's "other heart".

Enma: そいつは 紫炎の『悪しき心』が目覚めぬよう 妖魔の力を封じされ 人間界へと送られた。 To make sure he doesn't awaken Shien's "evil heart", his demonic power was sealed, and he was sent to the human world. (1)

Enma: そして 人間として生きることになったんだ。 『影歴史』で 紫炎の存在は 忘れ去られたけどな…。 And so he ended up living as a human. Though of course, he forgot Shien's existence because of "Shadow History".

Enma: だが その『影歴史』 の力で作られた閻魔帳によって 怪事件が起き そいつ自身も消されてしまった。 But, there was this strange incident where his own existence was also erased, by the Enma Book created with the power of "Shadow History". (2)

Enma: その事件は ケータの協力で解決して そいつも 助けることができたんだが… That incident was resolved with Kēta's help, and we were able to save him too, but... (3)

Enma: 実は そのときに 紫炎の『悪しき心』も 眠りから目覚め 解き放たれてしまったんだ。 At the same time, Shien's "evil heart" also woke up from its sleep and was unleashed.

Enma: しかし お前たちのおかげで その『悪しき心』とすら 『ともだち』になることができた。 But thanks to you, even that "evil heart" could become a "friend".

Enma: 今の紫炎なら そいつに戻ってもいいかもしれないな。 その名には 紫炎の名が刻まれていたのだから。 The way Shien is now, it would probably be fine to go back to him, too. Shien's name is engraved into his name, you know.

Enma: 閻魔の一族 ミカド族の象徴たる太陽… その��に眠りし魔王…… The symbol of the Enma clan, the Mikado Tribe, is the sun... A demon king slumbers in its shadow...

Translation Notes:

What I translated as demonic power is called 妖魔の力/yōma no chikara in Japanese. Literally, it means “yōma power”, with “yōma” being a word somewhat synonymous to the word “yōkai”, but is also sometimes translated as “demon” or the like.

This is referring to the Enma Note quests from Yo-kai Watch 3. Also, the word Enma Book here is 閻魔帳/Enmachō, which refers to the book that Enma is depicted with in actual Japanese mythology.

Kēta is know as Nate in the English localizations.

The play on words with Hikage Mao here is more obvious in Japanese. 日/hi can mean “sun”, while 影/kage means “shadow”, and the given name 真生/Mao sounds similar to 魔王/Maō, meaning “demon king”.

The character Hikage Mao is known as Lucas Schiffer in the English localizations.
