blueBrown releases debut single “Kingdom Go,” like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Math Rock had a baby

A world traveller following his dreams, Matthew C. Brown originally from the band, Homeless Apians, of Jackson, New Jersey, arises in Australia as blueBrown. A solo project budding on the road with the debut release of blueBrown’s single “Kingdom Go.”  

Pearl Jam influences ring in the track’s vocals oriented before entering a head banging chorus. Engineered and mixed by lead guitarist of Phavors, Phil Marflak, I am reminded of the passion that constructed this single. Hitting the chorus heavy, all sense of potential softness grinds into a taste of Layne Staley influence. The lyrics, “I can’t wait for you” seem to beg to an uncertainty hanging in the narrator’s sky.  

“"Kingdom Go" is from the perspective of someone in a relationship with a partner whose personal growth is quickly exceeding their own,” said Blue Brown in an email.

The narrator in this instance, describes blueBrown, is frustrated with their inability to grow as quickly although their partner is growing faster by slowing down.

“The ambiguous chorus, “I can't wait for you,” leaves the audience to decide if it's a cry of desire or of resentment, further revealing the confusion and frustration the narrator is experiencing,” continues the artist.

Not only will blueBrown’s vocals move the listener from sonically led focus to head banding, but the guitar layering hums musical talent to a new plane of musical complexity. If you enjoy math rock from Frank Zappa to Chon you will melt at the guitar skills of blueBrown. 

Upon listening, the motion of sound, swaying seamlessly from acoustic to electric immerses the listener further into the pulse of the single.

“It sounds like an acoustic over an electric because that’s almost what it is! The main electric track is the baritone using the electric pickups, but the bridge I installed on the guitar also has a piezo pickup that I can switch on if I want to imitate the sound of an acoustic,” said Blue Brown.

In fact, blueBrown built the guitar he is performing on. The baritone electric guitar was built from a butchers block, while the rest from used or recycled guitars.

“The neck was a gift from a friend after I married him and his partner,” said blueBrown.

blueBrown is on a vulnerable route, creating and writing at his most transparent. The artist is away from his band Homeless Apians as he travels. The band has played throughout the City of Asbury Park for years.

However, the solo project of blueBrown is a musical expedition for the solo artist and his continued to travel. Most recently, the brown haired blue eyed musician for which his name derives (with influence from the very peculiar Kengo Hioki of the band Peelander-Z) has been road tripping around Australia for the last nine months.

“The two colors were already built into who I am,” said the artist of sky and earth.

blueBrown will be releasing new singles in the near future as well as videos that can already be found for “Kingdom Go.”

“[outSides] is blueBrown's video series of live multi-tracked performances recorded and filmed in National Parks and other beautiful landscapes across Australia,” says the musicians YouTube page. The “Kingdom Go,” video features blueBrown in Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park in South Australia on June 17th. A true visual display of the musicians talents.

Cascade Kingdom

Going up the mountain slightly above the waterfall, I found a lower cliff that now had a red door. Inside was a T-Rex I could take over and I had to crush all the little hairy annoying things. Once they were all gone, I got a moon (#12 Dinosaur Nest: Big Cleanup!). I saw something else I could do but the T-Rex was gone so I had to go out and back in, take over the T-Rex again and go off the side of the cliff to a lower portion and break the rocks and I got another moon (#13 Dinosaur Nest: Running Wild!). I found a pipe  across some cloud platforms and inside was some chain chomp in some poison. I had to take them over and aim them to hit the target, some of them had to be angled correctly and then it would open the next room. At the end was a moon (#14 Nice Short with the Chain Chomp!). I almost missed the second one because the exit pipe was there and I was tempted to go out but instead I looked around and found another room to the right at the end and I had to hit another target with a chain chomp and got another moon (#15 Very Nice Shot with the Chain Chomp!).

Richtung vs. Geschwindigkeit

Hey du, unsere Instagram-Feeds sind voll von Hashtags mit irgendwelchen Goals. #couplegoals, #fitnessgoals #hairgoals, #fashiongoals, #bodygoals, #lifegoals, usw. Der Hashtag kommt eigentlich meistens dann erst unters Bild, wenn man das goal erfüllt hat, also erfolgreich war. Und das ist doch schon irgendwie cool für einen, wenn man seine Urlaubsziele verwirklicht oder seine Bodygoals. Aber kann man den Erfolg wirklich so negativ bewerten, wie Francis Chan es in dem Zitat tut? "Unsere größte Angst sollten wir nicht vor dem Scheitern haben, sondern vor dem Erfolg in Dingen des Lebens, die nicht wirklich zählen!" In dem Moment, wo ich mir überhaupt ein Ziel stecke, zählt das Ziel doch wirklich viel für mich, sonst hätte ich es mir doch gar nicht vorgenommen, oder? Äh, Jein. Richtung vs. Geschwindigkeit Lass mich dir erklären, was ich meine. Wir leben in einem ständigen Spannungsfeld zwischen Richtung und Geschwindigkeit. Kennst du das: Wir haben unendlich viele To-Do´s, einen vollen Terminkalender, müssen viele Nachrichten beantworten und wir müssen ständig Gas geben. Wir setzen voll auf Geschwindigkeit und vergessen dabei, in welche Richtung, wir überhaupt unterwegs sind. Wir machen viel, aber wir erreichen wenig. Wir schaffen viel, aber wir erschaffen nichts. Lecrae hat das mal so zum Ausdruck gebracht:

"Vision ohne Aktion ist ein Tagtraum. Aber Aktion ohne Vision ist ein Alptraum."

Ich hab das Gefühl, dass dieser Alptraum im Leben von vielen von uns Realität geworden ist. Wir sind immer busy, machen viel Action, rennen durch unseren Alltag, aber in welche Richtung? Wir sind imterwegs, Leben ohne Pause, aber wohin sind wir überhaupt unterwegs? Was ist deine Vision? Wenn wir uns das Leben von Jesus anschauen, dann hat er uns was ganz anderes vorgemacht. Jesus war busy, er hatte immer viele Menschen um sich, die was von ihm wollten, er hatte viel zu tun und er hatte alle Möglichkeiten. Aber: Obwohl er Gott war hat er sich immer wieder zurückgezogen, hat mit seinem Vater geredet,  hat seine Vision aufgefrischt und sich neu ausgerichtet. Sich neu überlegt: In welche Richtung möchte ich gehen? Und weißt du, was das Ergebnis davor ist? In drei Jahren hat er mehr influencet, als du und ich es wahrscheinlich in unserem ganzen Leben werden. Und deshalb möchte ich dich heute herausfordern, dass du immer wieder Zeiten in deinen Alltag einbaust, wo du dich zurückziehst, in den Dialog mit Gott gehst und ihn bittest, dir zu zeigen, wohin du unterwegs sein sollst. Ich will dich heute fragen: Was sind deine goals? In welche Richtung läufst du in deinem Leben? Denn die Frage nach dem Wohin hängt oft ganz eng mit der Frage nach unserem Antrieb zusammen. Was ist dein Antrieb, deine Motivation, was ist deine Power? Was ist deine Vision? Und wenn du das weißt, dann kannst du so richtig abgehen und Gas geben!  

Die Frage nach der Leidenschaft

Gott hat dich nicht ohne Grund erschaffen. Sondern er will deinem Leben einen Sinn geben. Und ein Ziel. Er hat einen Plan für dein Leben und er hat dich dafür ausgerüstet. Mit all deinen Macken und Kanten und all deinen Begabungen. Und wenn du deine Vision schon kennst, dann will ich dich heute herausfordern, mal darüber nachzudenken: Auf welchem Gebiet hat Gott dir eine Leidenschaft geschenkt? Wo sagt Gott: "Dazu habe ich dich erschaffen"? Was macht dir am meisten Spaß? Worüber sprichst du am liebsten? Wofür stehst du immer wieder ein? Wofür lohnt es sich zu leben und vielleicht sogar zu sterben? Ich weiß, das sind unglaublich herausfordernde Fragen, die man nicht eben mal so bei einem Kaffee-ToGo unterwegs beantworten kann. Aber ich will dich trotzdem herausfordern, dich mit diesen Fragen zu beschäftigen und ihnen nachzugehen. Denn schlussendlich sind es diese Fragen, die die Richtung bestimmen, in die du dein Leben lang gehen wirst. Und das ist es doch worauf es wirklich ankommt.

Nicht die Geschwindigkeit ist entscheidend, sondern die Richtung.

Gott hat dich für ein goal erschaffen. Er will deinem Leben eine Richtung und ein Ziel geben. Ich will dich heute ermutigen, auf die Suche zu gehen nach deiner Leidenschaft.Und ich will dich herausfordern Gott zu fragen, wohin dein Leben gehen soll. Was ist dein goal? Jesus hinterher

Wenn ich hinschaue, geht es bei fast allen unseren #goals zuerst um Ziele, die sich um uns selbst drehen. Unsere Lifegoals sind selten so, dass sie unserem Nächsten weiterhelfen oder Gott dienen. Ich frag mich, ob dieser Ego-Erfolg der einzige sein sollte, den wir zu vermelden haben? Wie schnell sind #bodygoals festgesetzt oder #couplegoals oder #travelgoals. Und wie viel seltener sind #worshipgoals, #holinessgoals, #disciplegoals, #biblegoals, #kingdomgoals, #righteousnessgoals, #wisdomgoals.   Jesus hat dazu mal ne ziemlich steile These rausgehauen: "Es soll euch zuerst um Gottes Reich und Gottes Gerechtigkeit gehen, dann wird euch das Übrige alles dazugegeben" (Matthäus 6, 33).  Alle anderen wirklich wichtigen Goals werden kommen, wenn wir die #kingdomgoals auf Platz 1 in unserem Leben pushen. Diesen Erfolg können wir dann zusammen mit unserem Gott feiern. Stell dir das mal vor:

Was, wenn wir Jesus wirklich nachfolgen würden? 

Was würde passieren, wenn wir anfangen würden, als junge Generation so zu leben? Mal angenommen wir würden #kingdommood zu unserem Lifestyle machen. Kingdom mood Worum geht es Gott wirklich? Und worum sollte es uns, als seinen Nachfolgern, wirklich gehen? Ich möchte dich nicht allein lassen, mit dieser Frage. Für mich zählt das, was Jesus gesagt hat. "Es soll euch zuerst um Gottes Reich und Gottes Gerechtigkeit gehen, dann wird euch das Übrige alles dazugegeben" (Matthäus 6, 33). Wenn ich am Ende meines Lebens stehe, möchte ich sagen können: Ich habe Gott mit ganzem Herzen geliebt, indem ich andere Menschen geliebt habe. Ich habe versucht, dort Gerechtigkeit zu schaffen, wo Menschen vergessen wurden und Ungerechtigkeit herrschte. Und ich habe sein Reich gebaut, indem ich mich mit meinen Talenten und Fähigkeiten für ihn und für andere eingesetzt habe. Das gibt mir bedingungslose Erfüllung in meinem Leben. Wäre es nicht mega cool, wenn dein Denkmal so aussähe? Wenn man daran sehen könnte, dass wir für Gott und die Menschen gelebt haben, anstatt nur für unsere eigenen egoistischen Ziele und Träume? Jeder von uns baut an einem Denkmal. Jeden Tag. Und wir entscheiden, ob es an uns erinnert oder an Gott. Ich möchte dir die Frage stellen, egal, ob du an Gott glaubst oder nicht: "Was zählt am Ende wirklich?" Weil das ist entscheidend. Denn Vollgas zu geben schließt nicht aus, alles zu verfehlen.
