Why were women of the present cut off from women of the past and how was this achieved? While we had been ready to believe the lessons of our own education and to accept that there was but a handful of women in the past who had protested against male power, that they were ‘eccentric’ at best, and more usually ‘neurotic’, ‘embittered’ and quite unrepresentative, then the absence of women's voices from history seemed understandable. But when it began to appear that there had been many women who had been saying in centuries past what we were saying in the 1970s, that they had been representative of their sex, and that they had disappeared, the problem assumed very different proportions.
For years I had not thought to challenge the received wisdom of my own history tutors who had — in the only fragment of knowledge about angry women I was ever endowed with — informed me that early in the twentieth century, a few unbalanced and foolish women had chained themselves to railings in the attempt to obtain the vote. When I learnt, however, that in 1911 there had been twenty-one regular feminist periodicals in Britain, that there was a feminist book shop, a woman's press, and a women's bank run by and for women, I could no longer accept that the reason I knew almost nothing about women of the past was because there were so few of them, and they had done so little. I began to acknowledge not only that the women's movement of the early twentieth century was bigger, stronger and more influential than I had ever suspected, but that it might not have been the only such movement. It was in this context that I began to wonder whether the disappearance of the women of the past was an accident.

thinking about how, as much as he thinks he's better than humans, the master's spent so much time with them after chasing the doctor around. he gets human references, he listens to human songs, watches human shows, and, even if it's for disguises, he lives as a human sometimes. honestly the doctor sometimes struggles with a lot of that
#youre not better than us you watch fucking teletubbies#ALSO. interested in whether theyre going to do something about this now that hes destroyed the time lords and feels betrayed by his species#where's your belief in time lord superiority now?#(probably directed to furthering his poorly suppressed belief that theta's better than any of them actually)#doctor who#dr who#the master#the master dw#dw the master#the master dr who#the master doctor who#thoschei#vaguely?#koschei oakdown#the doctor#the doctors been able to do those things at points but it changes. power of three vs the pilot in terms of settling into normal life#(but either way he's still very much Time Lord he cant keep it out of his lectures)#his pop culture knowledge varies too#but i bet the /master/ would know that one guy wasnt ed sheeran

Harnessing electrical energy from the Earth - Nikola Tesla's amazing plan to harness free currents.
Imagine this - posted in 1896 and we're paying for electricity in 2024. Tesla is rolling over in his grave. Free energy has been suppressed because it would create freedom for all human beings. 🤔

Marcille didn’t use illegal magic to resurrect Falin bc she just loves Falin that much, she was able to resurrect Falin bc she already knew illegal magic bc she doesn’t respect elf cops.
#she literally majored in illegal magic#what Falin’s death pulled out of her was the willingness to reveal this to the group. imo.#it’s a very similar arc to Laios it’s about vulnerability. she doesn’t corrupt herself she reveals herself#not that it’s nothing that she does this for Falin. esp since a running theme in the early chapters for Marcille is knowledge vs action#she KNOWS how to do a lot of things but she hasn’t taken action on many of them. and she has already started to confront that#by the time they reach the dragon. her character arc doesn’t start there it starts w like. the mandrake#ANYWAY Falin is important I just think that framing it as like ‘look how far she’ll go this is FORBIDDEN’ kind of misses the point#that the elves and gnomes and dwarves have suppressed this knowledge. THEY have failed Marcille. they set her up for failure#don’t by into their lies!!! burying the truth isn’t helping! rah rah!

im going Feral about how charles' mutation is always treated differently from everyone elses. charles (rightly) gets a lot of flack for only taking in the pretty mutants, but i think thats bcus he knows how isolating it is to have a power that is considered inherently a violation of consent. unless charles is 100% 24/7 a paragon of self control, hes GOING to hear your thoughts. asking him to stay out of your head is like asking him not to look at you, its just one of his senses like any other. and i think also thats why he snowballs so easily into huge violating acts like memory wipes and segmentation of identity - if everyone reviles him anyway for his natural, unconscious sensing of surface thoughts, feelings, vibes, traumas, etc etc, then why not do the huge messed up stuff they will also hate him for? he has to keep everything he knows about everyone a secret anyway, so as not to damage their sensibilities, whats one more horrendous secret? one more violation? and erik, of all people, who tells mystique not to cover up, who tells beast to be blue, tells charles "get out of my head".
#x-men#cherik#sort of#i think a lot of cherik fics fall into the trap of 'charles is really great at controlling his powers'#you fool you've fallen for his mask!!!!!!#the daily dilema that charles must struggle with - mostly alone - is how much to personally sacrifice for the sake of others' autonomy#when your natural state is a violation; how much of yourself must you strip apart#how much of yourself do you suppress#im not excusing deliberate choices he makes - especially memory editing#but i can see where the lines become blurred#when i subconsciously fancy a cup of tea and at the same time you spontaneously decide to make me one -#did i accidentally project my desire for tea? did i accidently psychically nudge you into making you one?#do i act on thoughts i hear or do i pretend i didnt hear them?#when people fight for me and my cause; are they swayed by my words or my emotions or my will?#when you're trying to save the world; does it matter?#and this burden of power and knowledge: do i share it and be subject to disgust and fear#or do i shoulder it alone and bear the isolation

I think the red hair pirates would be obsessed with S-Hawk too! Especially the main group who've known Mihawk through his teenage marine hunting phase.
Benn would know they are walking on thin ice but look at him! He’s a little baby Mihawk! Look at his little uniform shirt tucked into his little shorts. Every angry and threatening expression s-hawk could make would mean nothing to a crew that has seen the real thing live and in color. It would just be adorable like look at his little frown! His glare! The threat of disembodiment in his eyes! Adorable
Mihawk is very uncomfortable with how much the red hair pirates fawn over and adore what is essentially a manufactured baby him. But yet also somehow touched? By it. He’ll kill everyone and then himself before he admits it tho
Yasopp, who actually did know a shorter 19 year old Mihawk, would ask him if he was that adorable but tiny (still can't comprehend that the seraphim are infact giant) as a child and if he had any pictures, and Mihawk almost takes his head.
#Mishanks#something about people being kind to the younger version of yourself when you haven’t known much kindness#I think it’s also a-hawk has his exact temperament maybe even worse cause he doesn’t even really speak#but they like him because of that not inspire of it which means they’ll probably like him too if he’ll let them.#little does he know they already do and lucky roux yasopp and Benn adore him#benn would have to repeatedly explain that that is a murder robot and not a baby bird#I think they should by whatever miracle find pictures of an actual baby mihawk and they hang it on the fridge next to Luffy's wanted poster#throwing thoughts to the void#I do like desperately need S-Hawk and Mihawk to meet#I hope they do because I’m so interested in how the warlords would react to that#like there’s a younger version of you that was created without your knowledge or permission#it’s essentially a mirror to your childhood that suffers all on it own and you’re told it has no autonomy#but you can see the hints of a personality they are trying to suppress#red hair#red hair shanks#red haired shanks#red hair pirates#red haired pirates#dracule mihawk#hawkeye mihawk#akataka#mihawk x shanks#seraphim#one piece seraphim#one piece memes#one piece funny#op#one piece#shitposting#s hawk

Fire suppression p.1 & p.2: “Flame Retardant” & “Building Potential” Inspired by the PEM's ‘Our Time on Earth’ exhibit
I was gladly surprised to see the exhibit’s various optimistic installations, especially the building materials of the future. As a forestry student I am beginning to understand our relationship to our forests differently. In the US, forest policy which aimed to suppress wildfires has contributed to a century-long build up of fuel that would otherwise have been cleared by controlled burns or small spontaneous ground fires. Indigenous peoples shaped the forests of the Americas to require these controlled burns. More and more I realize that indigenous knowledge and collaboration is a necessary part of the stewardship of future. A concept which is present at large at the museum but also specifically within Our Time on Earth. Getting a ‘sustainable’ amount of lumber from our forest still disregards the health and purpose of these trees to a diverse and complex ecosystem. It is essential that we diversify our building material, to include carbon-negative things like mycelium! Natural resources that are close by, and at hand in our local environment, which doesn’t require chopping down a tree 3000 miles away and transporting it to the US. We need local resources whose collective cultivation lead to a sense of community and collaboration. A better future!
My thanks to lane.m.artin for collaborating with me for p.2!

I've always had this weird shyness around admitting I'd like to learn to make music. I don't know why. I was raised in a very pro-artist family. I think it's a fear of failure if I'm just not very good at it, which heightens once you're vulnerable about something and now everyone knows you like it and makes it more humiliating. I think it's also because I had a parent that blew money they didn't really have on home studios and instruments and always fancied themselves a bit of a wannabe musician with no actual drive, so I subconsciously internalised the criticism that got.
anyway I'm saying this because fun community events like tmbptmbg, spending a day listening to and discussing the music of artists with such a creative, eclectic output get me inspired and motivated. or hell, just reading about the band's process in general in articles and interviews gets me like this.
#I feel impostor syndrome around having it as a potential interest because I've weirdly suppressed it for so long#this sounds so silly and overdramatic. like. I've never suppressed any other interests so why this#why for so long with no good reason? I dunno. this may be related to the compulsive tendencies I have lol#no I can't do that because... I can't do that.#I did start learning keyboards/piano earlier in the year so !!#I think I just get overwhelmed with the knowledge people seem to have on basic music theory and being able to identify a key#like ohh I'll Never be able to do that#even tho it probably took them years..

Could fireplaces in ancient buildings have been part of a hidden energy system? Many theories suggest they weren’t just for heat, but actually used conductive metals and architectural design to tap into free energy. Is this a lost technology that was suppressed? 🤯

honestly wild to me how much of life you can go through completely ignorant of the people around you. i only began to learn of certain things because i needed to research them for TCT, and in doing so i followed certain blogs and began to learn how much of just. normal language is shaped by ignorance.
#this is specifically about intersex people#like. being intersex is as common as having green eyes#and yet it's treated like this thing that's so incredibly rare we simply can't learn about it in school#because it 'wouldn't apply to anyone'#when statistically there's at least 3-4 people in my grade alone who are intersex and don't know#how much of this knowledge is being purposely suppressed and how much of it-#-is just a consequence of ignorance?#there are going to be people who live their entire lives never once thinking about intersex people#and that's really really sad to me#and most of the trans people who think about them do so as a talking point#rather than actually Learning

Magic runs in sakura's family even though she was obviously not aware of this at first and found out about her own magic by accident when she found clows book. However her magic still affected her before this, she just didn't know. She has the ability to see ghosts, but she was so scared of them that she subconsciously repressed this ability , although she can still sense them. Which really only serves to make her more scared of them because now she Knows they're there but can't see them
#i think the whole subconsciously suppressing knowledge of things shes scared about is so interesting#not that it ever gets properly explored 😑

The thing about armchair diagnosing cis people as trans is that if you accept that everyone's understanding of gender is deeply personal and that you shouldn't tell someone they're not trans or not trans in the right way, you should also accept that you can't tell someone they are trans or that they're not cis in the right way. Or that they have to either identify as trans or cis.
These are all just words and there's never any excuse to argue with someone over who they are.
I don't think most people are genuinely trying to overrule the 'cis in a gnc way' perspective but even being flippant about it is not helpful. Also I think cis people talking about gender in complex and fun ways is very cool.
#everyone is allowed to have their own gender#it's not like 'trans people get to do whatever they want and cis are boring and default'#cis just means you generally identify with the gender you were assigned or don't strongly identify with something else#not that you never think about what gender means to you or that you think you're a woman BECAUSE you have a certain body#everyone is capable of understanding the difference between sex and societal gender roles and gender identity#if we try to say that only trans people have this forbidden knowledge that's just another way of alienating ourselves#and suppressing discussion of gender#gender things#anyway i said this bc i was watching a video essay about transness in horror#and she talked about a mangaka who writes trans narratives and has this really complex relationship with his own gender#but doesn't openly identify as trans#and i think we will lose a lot of interesting stories and people if we tell cis people to either be quiet about gender identity or be trans#and i know it's like. 'no one's telling them to shut up they're the majority'#yeah yeah but like. being cis is such an ephemeral state of being#you could just as easily not be cis within a moment#so it makes no sense to me to act like every cos person individually is An Oppressor#they're literally not they're just other people under the same stupid capitalist imperialist society as us#that wants them to be stuffed into tiny marketable boxes just as much as it wants us to be#so not they're not an elevated class and they're not barred from the table#the reason we have community is for support and understanding but some cis people support and understand us and some trans people don't#everything has nuance#anyway i want to engage less with labels and more with people and let them tell me who they are
