Danganronpa Fic Recs!!

In my six years of being a Danganronpa fan I've read a lot of fanfiction, so I've decided to compile a list of some of my personal favourites (in no particular order) for your perusal. Contains very minor plot spoilers, but nothing beyond what the tags/descriptions will tell you. Bear in mind these are mainly V3 because that's my favourite, but there are a couple of others. Enjoy :D

New Danganronpa V3BOOT: Killing Harmony Redux - EternalSailorNeptune_53.

Unique in the fact that not only is it a Talentswap AU, but a Simulation AU as well. The general premise is that DRV3 wound up being such a monumental disappointment of a season that Shirogane is forced to rewrite it and try again.

Something that stands out about this fic in particular is its characterization. It tweaks the personalities and backstories of the cast to fit their new talents, all while remaining fundamentally true to their canon counterparts. There's a new death order, new motives, and all of the jokes hit. It's really funny but also made me cry at a few points. Ships include SaiMatsu, KoreKichi, TenMiko and some mild ShinToujo.

2. Taming the Wild Ones - DRonpaFanGirl

Hajime centric talentless AU. It's been quite a while since I've read this one, but if memory serves, it's set in a boarding school for troublemakers that Hajime gets sent to after getting into one too many fights. It explores the relationships between the characters, and touches on themes of mental health. It's written in the first person which I know can be a deterrent for many, but the dialogue is so good that it's easy to look past even if you usually don't like that sort of thing. There's a sequel that I haven't read yet myself, but I'm sure it's probably just as entertaining as the first one. Ships include Komahinanami (with a heavier focus on Hinanami than Komahina & Komanami), + background Saimatsu, Kaimaki, Izuru/Celestia, and Mondo/Mukuro.

3. The Powerful Skeletons Series - EternalLoveSong

Another V3 Talentswap AU, except this time it's a collection of shorter fics, currently about 27 of them, set in the same talentswap universe. It features Supreme Leader Maki, Assassin Kokichi, Inventor Shuichi, and Servant Rantaro to name a few, and each character gets the spotlight at some point. I don't have a lot to say about these but they're very good.

4. Alternative Ending, New Beginning - CrowSandwhich

V3 Chapter 5 canon divergence AU, in which various factors (Maki) cause Kokichi's plan to backfire before he can complete it. Due to his injuries, he winds up confined to the hangar by the rest of the survivors, under the belief that he's the mastermind. Incredibly engaging, but tragically discontinued. Kokichi & Kaito centric, no ships.

5. Irreplaceable - apollo_python

Set many years after the events of V3. The participants of the final killing game have all disappeared under mysterious circumstances, with the exception of Shuichi and Kokichi, who've been out of contact and down on their luck since the game ended. At Shuichi's insistence, they take it upon themselves to find their missing former classmates. A Saiouma thriller/mystery with a heavy focus on their relationship. Ships include Saiouma, and background Kaimaki/Irumatsu.

I tried wheel decide for fusion and that what I get.

Results - Korekichi Oguji, Ultimate Guitarist.

He taught himself how to play guitar when he was younger, mostly to give him something to do but also because he liked music. It was just pleasant to learn.

A lot of what he plays is folk music he grew up listening to. He likes learning more folk music, but also some meme music as well, just to mess with his classmates.

He’s very serious about his talent, despite sometimes seeming otherwise. He’ll often practice as soon as he’s done with his homework, and even spending hours doing that.

While he’s tried to write his own music, he doesn’t often enjoy the outcome and thus doesn’t share it with anyone, even though he keeps everything he’s written.

Sharing his music is something he doesn’t actually do too often, so it was a bit of a surprise how he’d gotten his talent. To him, it was something for himself and maybe another person or two.

Thinking about Korekichi and I think them and Miurumi should go on a double date. Same energy of refined goth and gremlin partner they love and adore.

okay okay okay so like,,,,,,for Kaito, there’s Do-Your-Best Bear! He reminds Kiyo of Momota specifically due to his most recent character description, which is as follows: “Do-Your-Best Bear will be there to make sure his friends stay moving. For him there is no greater joy than helping someone achieve what they once thought was impossible to achieve.”

So like!!!! HUGE “the impossible IS possible!” vibes!!!!

For Kokichi, Kiyo associates him with Play-A-Lot Bear! Play-A-Lot is known to be energetic and fun-loving, so I mean. u can see how one might be reminded of lil mr. ouma >:)

And then, for Gonta, Kiyo has an old Forest Friend Bear! It’s a little beat up, but that’s okay - Kiyo just has to take extra special care in not loving him too roughly! But yeah I mean,,,,,Forest Friend Bear loves nature and tries to get others to see the beauty in it, and Gonta has a perspective on the forest that few other humans have due to being raised there! :D

Who asks the other on dates: Kokichi asks out Korekiyo more! Kokichi was also the first to ask Korekiyo, because he was interested in how strange and mysterious he was. Korekiyo only accepted as a learning opportunity, but the two found out they actually really enjoyed each other’s company. 

Who is the bigger cuddler: Kokichi is the bigger cuddler! Korekiyo, while interested in the idea of cuddling, hadn’t really had the opportunity to experience it before! So luckily he’s gotten to experience a lot of cuddling by being with Kokichi. (And he’s decided that it’s an enjoyable experience)

Who initiates holding hands more often: Kokichi also initiates hand holding more! Even though Korekiyo thinks humans are fascinating creatures, he tends to put himself in an observer role during interactions. (Tending to stand to the side and observe rather than partake in conversations.) Kokichi is good about taking Korekiyo’s hand and pulling him in and getting him to actually be part of the conversation!

Who remembers anniversaries: They both remember, they’re both very good with dates. Anniversaries are more important to Kiyo though, as he finds the tradition very beautiful.

Who is more possessive: These two can kind of both get possessive, but I think Kokichi is probably the more possessive of the two. He can get pretty clingy and attention-needy sometimes, but honestly Korekiyo just thinks it’s fascinating.

Who gets more jealous: Kokichi also tends to get more jealous, especially with how highly Korekiyo speaks of his sister and humanity in general. (We’ll say in this au that their relationship isn’t incestuous though, and that they’re just very close.) 

Who is more protective: They both can get pretty protective of each other. Kokichi is quick to defend anyone that calls Kiyo weird, because ‘all the best people are’. While Korekiyo gets quite defensive of Kokichi’s crazy antics if people start complaining about that. Basically, they love each other’s weirdness.

Who is more likely to cheat: I’d say Korekiyo, but only if the opportunity had amazing scholarly benefits.:P

Who initiates sexy times the most: Oh Korekiyo for sure. They’ve certainly got an active and... interesting(?) sex life. They’re both up for anything, so they’ve got an experimental sex life for sure. It gets wild. 

Who dislikes PDA the most: They’re both pretty much fine with PDA. It’s not unusual for them to get caught making out in public, and there are times when Kokichi can get real handsy with Kiyo. (Kiyo loves it)

Who kills the spider: Kiyo rigs up a whole convoluted system to kill the spider. Kokichi watches and exasperatingly says, “You could have just stepped on it!” 

Who asks the the other to marry them: Korekiyo does, as he wants to experience setting up and enacting a traditional proposal. Kokichi, aware of who Korekiyo is as a person, waits for him to ask.

Who buys the other flowers or gifts: Kokichi loves to bring Korekiyo weird, creepy gifts from whenever he takes trips with DICE. Kiyo loves and appreciates every one, and they have a display case at their house filled with all the freaky stuff Kokichi has brought home!

Who would bring up possibly having kids: I don’t know if either of them ever would, but the more likely of the two would be Korekiyo. 

Who is more nervous to meet the parents: Kokichi would be super inwardly nervous to meet Korekiyo’s sister, as he talks so highly of her. Korekiyo would be more intrigued than nervous to meet DICE.

Who sleeps on the couch when the other is angry: Probably Kokichi, as he’d probably need more time to process after an argument. He may just take a long walk and then stay at DICE headquarters for a night though. 

Who tries to make up first after arguments: So even though Korekiyo takes less time to process, these two both a difficult time making up after arguments. They both have a bad habit of letting things stew for a long time, but generally Kokichi is the first to try to reconcile.

Who tells the other they love them more often: Kokichi says it more! It’s really not said all that often between the two, because once they know they know. Korekiyo really doesn’t express romantic affection with words all that often, so he tends to say it only on special occasions. (Which is fine for Kokichi, because actions speak louder than words, anyway.)
