okay i ADORE this pre release, it actually showcased all of their vocal skills so so well (wish there was a bit in the chorus for jeongyeon though!! the teaser made it seem like she'd have a main singing role) and i actually thought of some twice lore...

in dance the night away, they start the mv washed up on the shore of an island, probably after a shipwreck. what if this video shows them before and after the shipwreck, living on the island?? kinda like a whole parallel universe thing? like they made it together for this long? not sure if any of that made sense ahaha just my thoughts!!

so glad chungha came out with a personal album!!!

bare & rare pt.1 is stunningly versatile, its diversity of styles perfectly representing the full spectrum of chungha's vocal abilities. the songs feel completely honest in their emotion while flaunting catchy and ear-tingling instrumentals. the bright and bubbly "sparkling" encapsulates chungha's most widely beloved pop sound and the disco-esque "california dream" is a vision of neon lights and a barefoot dance on the scorching sand. the slow build-up of vocals in "louder" and "goodnight my princess" is deeply moving in its respective direction of happiness or grief. the bold vocal explosions of "crazy like you" and "love me out loud" juxtapose with the tensed verses and instrumentals to create a sense of conflict, of being pulled apart and put back together, of cleaving. and the matter-of-fact rap-styles or "xxxx" and "nuh-uh" solidify chungha's musical experimentation after "bicycle" and make a statement of her willingness to expand in new genres and rhythms.

bare and rare pt.1 is a gorgeous gallery of styles and moods, a multi-dimentional portrait of an artist. i can't wait to learn these songs by heart.

album review: seventeen- 10th mini album FML

I really enjoy seventeens music and I'm definitely close to staning them so I was really looking forward to this comeback.

F*ck my life:8.5/10 very chill, reminds me of f*ck it by big bang like angsty but low key about it.

super:9/10 like angsty British club music as a British person K-pop that sounds British is my favourite genre, honestly just such a vibe.

fire:9/10 this is indescribably good, I love the autotune. the best way I can describe it is if seventeen made nct's discography.

i don't understand but i LUV U:10/10 comes out of absolutely nowhere but i love it so much. it's simultaneously both familiar and completely different from anything i've heard.

DUST:10/10 my favourite song off the album. it's like if ghosting by TXT was happier. I need this song injected directly into my bloodstream.

April shower:9.5/10 soooo good, just a vibe like a if daring and don't wanna cry had baby. anyway big fan of her.

FML(overall):9.5/10 quite different from anything I've ever heard from seventeen, but I'm definitely not complaining.

One of a Kind Album Review!

I will be repeating this all summer for sure! I really love this direction sound-wise for Loossemble. The album all together is a 8.5/10.

Before I rank each track individually,

Track 1 : Intro (A butterfly's signal)

A pretty good intro! ngl the beginning scared me, I thought we were going to go to a sound more like Birth if you know what I mean...But anyway, someone said it sounded like Burn the Bridge (by le sserafim) and I kind of hear it, not to mention the spoken lyrics as well (which le sserafim does for their intros). I don't really mind, though. I still like Searching for their Friends better just because it feels so grand, but this is a different concept so I understand why they sound different. A solid 8/10.

Track 2: Girls' Night

Overall, I do like it. I especially love the chorus and post-chorus. What definitely made me enjoy it more is having heard some of the instrumental beforehand. The first verse got me hooked, same with the pre-chorus. The chorus has a lot of overlapping ad-libs which was very confusing on my first listen, but listening to it again I actually love the chorus. The bridge is okay, not groundbreaking but it does the job. You'll notice I've avoided talking about one part in particular, and that's the 2nd verse. In my first album review, I had the same problem with sensitive. The talk - rapping completely ruins the overall mood of the song. It at least seemed less out of place in Sensitive. But in Girls' Night, with a much different concept, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I already layed out my other issues about talk rapping in the Loossemble review, you can find them there. If the 2nd verse had been different, this would have had a higher score. But alas, we'll have to settle for a 8.5/10. It's a good title track that could have been great.

Track 3: Moonlight

While the beginning starts out with an undefined ballad vibe, the song slowly solidifies into something more substantial by the chorus. Comparing the beginning to the chorus, most people wouldn't think they were part of the song. Bizarrely, the change works well. I can't exactly point out what genre this song is, but I like it. I probably won't listen to it much, but it's certainly not bad. A 8/10.

Track 4: Boomerang

Why...just why...this type of song, reminiscent of Oops! by Loona is my least favorite. The chorus is really not that bad, but the verses are abrasive and not in a good way. It's saving grace is the bridge, carrying So What's torch with ethereal bridges. As Hyunjin says in Boomerang, "So high up in the air, you'll fly away". I have nothing else to say. 6.5/10, the .5 is from the bridge.

Track 5: He Said I Said

Since this was my favorite from the track previews, I'm not suprised how much I like He Said I Said. It's a spring track through and through, I love it. Right before the last chorus when Hyunjin says, "You are my only desire" is my favorite part of the song. It just scratches an itch in brain. I need it in a loop. 9.5/10.

Track 6: Truman Show

My favorite track??? It reminds me of Day by Day in a way. I love that Yves, her sister, and Gowon did the lyrics together! Speaking of lyrics, the meaning of this song is so interesting.

I see 2 meanings to the lyrics,

the first: Unrequited love, using the metaphor of Truman Show. In case you didn't know, Truman Show is a movie about a man who's whole life is being broadcasted on TV, everything around him is fabricated, his friends, family, neighbors. The lyricists say that, "This is my own Truman Show that just endеd", meaning they thought their crush loved them but in reality the narrator was only imagining it. It was all fake, like everything around Truman in the movie.

the second: About someone going through a breakup (probably because the other person cheated). In this version, the narrator's partner was faking their love all along, hence fake like Truman Show. I think this interpretation is most likely the one the lyricists intended

Thank you Loossemble for giving us this masterpiece!!! Some lyrics that stood out to me:

This is my own Truman Show that just ended It's like I'm throwing it away, sorry, too bad (Too bad) The acting was quite clumsy, too late

Track 7: Starlight

Lyricist Hyunjin appears again for her 2nd ballad. This is probably my 2nd favorite, not as good as Day by Day but still memorable. Some lyrics that stand out to me:

Even when the cold wind blows, inside my heart There's only one thing that burns, your light

You filled me up with starlight Dyed in your color

Closing Thoughts: Thanks for making it all this way! Not as good as their debut album but not bad either. I'm so glad we got to see the members be more involved in production. Especially Hyeju writing the lyrics for the title track was pretty crazy. It was so cool to hear the underappreciated members of Loona have the spotlight. Can't wait to see what Loossemble does next!

1. blind spot - okay yk pls this is in the best possible nostalgic way but it sounds like it's part of the lego movie soundtrack go listen if you don't believe me ABD THATS A GOOD THING!!!! this song just SWALLOWED ME ALIVE oh my gosh it reminds me of retro jpop and also 2000s teen movies and maybe that's why i was like obsessed? the vocals and the CHORUS oh my gosh it just was everything i wanted and yes this was the one i pressed on first when the album came out bc i have been WAITING FOR HER

2. lalalala - NEED I SAY MORE??? this was everything and more for a title track oh my gosh. i was a bit skeptical when they announced the name bc it sounded like it might be a bit too repetitive but NOPE OH MY GOSH IT ATE THIS WAS INCREDIBLE also felix finally being able to swear made my aussie heart proud 🥹🥹 the choreography too though oh my and i LOVED that the chorus was done by the people who don't often do the chorus?? does that make sense?? also it's a longer song which is a win bc why is every title track under 3mins now like wtf

3. comflex - IM LITERALLY CRYING DID JYP PERMIT THEM TO RELEASE UNCENSORED SONGS 😭😭😭😭 i love me a rap song with some insane vocals though hgdafg it's giving very 5 star but also i see why it fits in this album and im here for it

4. megaverse - look this is TITLE TRACK MATERIAL it's like the banger b side that could've been a whole comeback of its own (im looking at you charmer, item, get lit and domino) the only thing i didn't like was their promotion style this time like y'all did NOT just spoil two of your songs before releasing the album like when i know songs in the album/songs repeat in the album it basically makes me think minus those songs so this album was really only 4 songs for me since every other song i already knew/is a variation of another anyway other than that it slaps but would've slapped harder if it was a first time listen

5. cover me - SEUNGMIN YOUR VOCALS AT THE END HAD ME GASPING FOR AIR SHSHUAHSHHSHA stunning and stunninger its a bit like stars and raindrops's emo older brother shhshs this fit skzflix SO WELL THOUGH

6. leave - same as megaverse if it was a first time listen it just wouldve hit that tiny bit harder but still in love with it!! it's the chill sad love song that every skz album needs fr the new brother of collision, chill and mixtape oh

7. social path - we already knew her but she still did well as always! i mean its hard to fuck up this song but it's not hard to fuck up my brain like girl i really went and understood it in japanese and now she's re released in a different language and im gonna be confused af whenever this version plays 😭 I WILL SAY THOUGH social path definitely fits this album better than the japanese one like it's a lot more rocky whilst social path + super bowl felt a bit like an awkward combination and then butterflies was fr just hanging in there 😭

8. lalalala rock ver - still good but i prefer the other one, it'll probably grow on me though!!! why is this giving when txt released an emocore version of 0x1=lovesong 😭😭

the mv is so good, so pretty, so precious, i was actually tearing up by the end. and of course the song is a masterpiece as expected 🥹🫶🐇

- now onto my top3 after the first listen of the album:

top #1 has to be little light. it made me tear up. its literally perfect. doyoung was so right for choosing it as the tt and i cant wait for promotions to start so i can hear him sing it over and over and over again.

top #2 is time machine. mark opening the song was crazy, i was listening to the album laying in bed and when i heard him i sat down so quickly omg and it only gets better and better, that song is amazing. doyoung and taeyeon together sound like magic, i was floating the whole time.

top #3 is so hard to choose. im between serenade (which is exactly my style and it would probably be my fav if the album wasnt full of masterpieces). from little wave (because he sang it live on the comeback live and i cant stop thinking about her). beginning (made me cry on the trailer and hearing the full version made my life better, its just too good). and then of course lost in california and dallas love field (both make me so happy)

and yes i am aware i made half the album my top 3 but what am i suppose to do. its doyoungs fault, hes too good. maybe in a couple of months after my 389th listen i can actually pick just one as my fav, but for now i cant.

im so jealous of all the fans that get to go to his concert and hear the album live !! its gonna be amazing 🥹 i hope everyone has fun and enjoys doyoungs music as much as he does performing them 🫶 cheer a lot !!!

SKZ 5 STAR COMEBACK THOUGHTS

first, a review of the songs and then my overall thoughts!!

song review

Hall of Fame: from the get go, it establishes the space vibe with the opening tune! a great opening love the galileo and armstrong references etc, although the 'one small step' quote from armstrong, while it does fit the theme, kinda breaks up the song for me so it's not my favourite part. the build up in the prechorus is SO GOOD! the chorus is really punchy and i'm so in love with felix's little rap verse he really does make it iconic.

S-Class: so so so COOL!! the whistling part is so awesome and it starts with guns blazing with changbin's rap. HYUNJIN SLAYED THAT VERSE!! i really love it. all the raps are so good and the serpent road melody is so good?? THIS CHORUS IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!! the switch to a slower beat and the hip hop vibe was very unexpected but very welcome :) the buildup to the second chorus is so great omg i love how its the same but different! seungmin was really good in the we're special part ughhhh the dance break slayed so much as well i just have positive things to say about this song except maybe the ending i don't hate but also don't love how it ends

ITEM: GAMER ERA!! it's 'funnily annoying' just like they said in the intro video really does give video game vibes! super addictive and i love the diction as changbin focused on it really levels up the song. ITEM ITEM I ATE THEM PAC MAN!!! han's rap >>> i also like felix's celebrate we gonna elevate line that was so good i ate that shit up. EVERYTHING IS AMAZING NO WORDS!!! the bridge isn't my best but i really like the buildup to the final chorus and it overall slayed so hard. mv maybe?

Super Bowl: omg. literally. i can see how it was meant to be the original gods menu but im glad they saved it for five star because it honestly just fits so much better with this album and it feels a lot more cohesive. ENGLISH SONG KINGS!! every line is just pure mastery ugh i'm so hooked onto this song and the way chan says ruULes like >>>> changbin's rap ughhhhh and then jeongin saying the everything you're craving its all me like TOAST?? BABY BREAD WHO? and then the stunner HELL OF A LINE I KNOW ITS HELLA FINE HELLS KITCHEN TASTING DIVINE!! the backing instrumental is quite simple which works well because the singing isn't overshadowed. never thought i'd live to see the day hanji said 'bussin' but WHO ELSE?? such a killer like omg and then the chorus UGH I DIED the whispering the word play the seductive vibe with the urge to shake my ass off and ugh i can't compute. heyday reference by changbin!!! lee know's prechorus was so good ugh i really would like a mv or smth for this as well. the bridge was really good imo!!! and the transition from the 'bring the rain' to 'cooking up a storm' and having the same semantic field UGHHHH the ending with felix was so fine as well 🤤

TOPLINE (feat.Tiger JK): love love love the instrumental!!! braggadocios as they should be 😤 THE PRECHORUS IS MY LOVE I ADORE IT AN UNGODLY AMOUNT!!! SEUNGMIN'S VOICE!!!!! lmaoooo chan dropping in the 'we don't give a f***' i see now why he was so surprised with the Xdinary Heroes and their supposed uncensored swearing whereas he had to blur it out haha. the chorus DELIVERS! BOM DIGI DIGI BOM BOM BOM BOM! tiger jk is a rlly great rapper and i'm so happy that han gets his dream to rap with him bcs his rap slayed! and then the 'ain't nobody can do it like us' reference to circus!! >>> lee know slayed the second chorus ^^ great song :D the ending was so great <3

DLC: THIS IS SO GREAT!! the instrumental is so nice, a lot lighter than the previous songs and a nice break from the heaviness hehe. the tune is so addictive and i love the SUNRISE part <3. even if the lyrics are a bit sad, as @oh-the-aster-blooms put it, 'sometimes when you are sad, dancing all night sounds better', and i totally agree :) everything just kinda flows so well and their voices work really well together. i really adore i.n's 'run away run away' part my baby has such an angelic voice. the bridge is also cool :)

GET LIT: idk is it just me but for some reason get lit just brings worth it by 5th harmony to mind with the jazzy vibes at the start, but like...better (no offence to 5th harmony) this is such a swag brag song! the raps are so great to start off omg and then the sudden transition to seungmin's beautiful voice ugh THE CHORUS!!!! i love how felix does his line and it drops into the vibe. the next verse is so like subtle brag idk how to explain it but the swerve swerve part> i do feel imo that the bridge is bit disconnected at the beginning but when changbin does his 'speaker' part it flows really well. i like the dance break! it is a bit repetitive but oh well it slays anyways.

Collision: i saw someone somewhere say it was like chill on steroids (idk who u are sorry for not giving credit 🙇‍♀️) and its so true. it really has the same vibe like sad but also like vibey idk i think the instruments help a lot with establishing that mood. vocalracha slayed in this >>> so did hyunjinnie and lee know <;3 babe i loved you that line is so good felix >>> and BANG CHAN IN THE VERSE AFTER THE FIRST CHORUS?? so good ugh its like a rainy day kinda song when u just feel a bit sentimental. also felix and...was it lee know? in the second pre chorus? that sounded so amazing ughhhh i really like that metaphor of crashing its very bittersweet <3 han slayed again

FNF: such a strong start with chan!!! changbin and han's raps were so great and the prechorus was really like heart rending idk thats jsut the power of vocalracha ig and again as @oh-the-aster-blooms and i were discussing the chorus does have a great pace which does give the impression of trying to catch up! it gives off movie soundtrack vibes imo. the way they blended their voices with felix was so cool!! hyunjinnie slayed that rap damn. the bridge was so good as well. the meaning behind this song >>

Youtiful: such a sweet song showing their love for stay! chan's explanation was so TT i love my boys so much the instrumental is so soft and soothing and the lyrics >>> listening to this just made my heart warm. its the audio version of chan's big hug <3 this was a very good song for chan. also seungmin, lee know and i.n as well!! i could listen to my babe jeongin saying 'you are a miracle' for ever. the chorus slaps.

i don't really count these two as part of the album as they were already released/just a translated ver so its a lot briefer

THE SOUND (Korean Ver.): the Japanese version slayed, so does this. i liked how they changed the chorus, and everything just fits well idk sometimes i find the translated versions a bit jarring after being used to the og one but this is really good!

such a great album omg. i love all the songs!!! the line count has improved quite a bit (although lino is lacking in some parts) but overall its pretty fair imo factoring the roles different members play. they've definitely shown us a different facet of their music which is so cool and innovative! love love love
